I am PCS and I approve this message! A few weeks ago when I was home in Delaware, I filled out my primary absentee ballot. The primary is tomorrow for both Democrats and Republicans for Governor, Lt. Governor, various State House and Senate races and County Council positions. I always vote, and I think it's important to do so, there have been a few races in Delaware that has been decided by one vote. I've been asked many times if I was a Republican on this forum or what my political leanings are, I guess many of you by now think you know how I vote because of my preference for Obama for President, don't be so sure. I vote the best person in my view for the job, and…

When I was car shopping I did look at a first gen Dodge Neon. It was going for $800, which was well below my budget. I liked how it drove and handled, however the ebrake stuck and of greater concern, water was getting into the cabin on the passenger side and pooling in the foot well. It had started to smell like mold. I passed over it. Friday I went to my mechanic to do some computer work for him, and what do I find? The very car I test drove...

I guess, I will be one of the 1st to kiss my ass goodbye! Discovery or doom? Collider stirs debate Chapter 2: Cutting through the hype over black holes and future benefits By Alan Boyle Science editor MSNBC updated 5:03 p.m. ET, Mon., Sept. 8, 2008 Will the Large Hadron Collider save the world, or destroy it? As the atom-smasher at Europe's CERN research center is readied for its official startup on Wednesday, researchers might wish that the general public was captivated by the quest for the Higgs boson, the search for supersymmetric particles and even the evidence for extra dimensions. But if the feedback so far is any guide, the real headline-grabber…

Well last night we had a report of a house fire... the first since ive been in.... cool for me right? not so much.... see yesterday i had been sick all day, and had been throwing up. when the call got toned out, i had just thrown up, but there was no way i was missing it. we get to the scene, and my compnay had the 3rd hoseline, meaning we werent taking the brunt of the fire. by the time we really were in there, the fire was pretty much done, but this place was a mess... real packrats, so we had to clear out the fi…

when the fart can mufflers started appearing in my town i was less than happy. most were heavily made fun of to the point of no return but the fad... i mean performance realizations took place and they got a foothold. whilest watching one of my relaxing shows that makes me feel better about myself in everyway ( the smoking gun presents on tru tv) i saw a video clip of a muffler shop that is welding pieces of flat metal with a hole in them into the exhaust tips of cars. how stupid, and of course not one person interviewed for the positives of this "modification" which they claim is for decoration, btw the last time i looked at a decoration it was pretty silent, has one shr…

I'm sick.. quite sick. I think everything is failing me at once. I went to the doctor yesterday after leaving work at lunch because I felt like major crap. Terribly sore throat and back, worst headache I've had in a long time, sore roof of my mouth (cut it open eating a burger Sunday night), swollen lymph nodes in my neck. Fun stuff. So the doc tells me I've got a throat infection, not strep but just like it. Along with strained muscles in my lower back (no idea how I did that). I get put on prescription meds (wow, I don't know if I've ever had to say that other than a couple other times in my life), and I'm feeling much better. Except for the fact that the preexistin…

As of the middle of November I had my German bank accounts set up. as of now, my friends are purchasing a large two level, 3 bedroom, flat just off of Luxemburger Strasse. I will be renting a bedroom from them on the first floor. The married couple will live on the second floor. Their move in date would likely be around April '08. I will follow a few months later. The pictures I've seen of it are great! There will be more pictures coming.

As some of you know my Girl Friend (maybe wife soon i mean after 25 years of knowing each other pretty close, maybe its time) was in a car accident a little while ago. Good news she is almost back to normal the only thing is they need to watch for blood clots that could lead to a stroke. She still isn't aloud to go back to work until august 4th. She is bored out of her mind sitting at home and apparently when the caprice got stolen and we were looking at cars she really liked the Silverado. Today im at work and i get a call from my dad asking why Kim needed his GM discount number, i had no idea. well i get home and see a shinny new 2008 Silverado regular Cab long box chill…

I finally took my GED test. I'm still awaiting official results, however, I heard that I passed with flying colors. I must say, I was shocked at how easy the test was. I went into it, having not studied beyond taking one practice test, expecting to fail. The first section, taking both Mathematics and Writing/Grammar wasn't hard in the least. For math, it was basics. For grammar, it was common sense. For writing, it was knowing how to write, which is clearly not that hard, unless we're talking about someone who has divulged themselves in rap and instant messaging slang. The second section, consisting of Science, Social Studies, and Reading, wasn't quite as easy, but sti…

Yikes! Since I was at the dealership making an appointment to get the wife's bumper repainted (they've done it once already), I figured I'd ask how much it would cost to get the rust spots fixed underneath 2 of her doors, since we are keeping her car. And they did a good job on the Balt..... 500 bucks for those spots! Damn! I would like to make it look nice, but not for that price...as much as I hate to do it, sanding it off and spraying on some Por may just be it.....

Thanks to that nice storm down there, it looks like there's a good chance gas taps $3.00 by the middle of next month... <_< They have people driven by fear that people are lining up to get gas tonight, and on the new they are talking about running out of gas...I don't think so.. And the price around here jumped 10 cents locally, though I'm hearing a few stations on the east side were creeping to 3 bucks... Yes, beyond my wildest imagination, I was forced to fork over hard-earned cash for a Ford product. Here's a picture of the new 2008 Ford F150 STX that's parked in my garage: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Well, I never said it was mine! My son Justin celebrated his 3rd birthday recently (08/08/08) and this was one of two presents from me, the wife, and my step-son (the other was a new Tonka-themed boys 14" bike). Here's one with the happy owner: He is extremely pleased with his Fisher Price Power Wheels Ford F150 STX with Monster Traction! He got it Saturday afternoon and has spent an hour or two driving it everyday since.

All of the rancor and accusation, lies and half truths, posturing and pronouncing are drawing to a close. About 24 hours from now we should have a pretty good idea who will be piloting the Titanic for the next four years. Let's all wish him well - he faces the tallest order of troubles of any new President since FDR. And, let's wish ourselves well while we are at it - it's going to be a tall order for us as well. New horizons without a doubt.

As of August 28th, 2006, I have a vehicle. No more borrowing this car or that car. I mentioned this in another thread. Here's what I said. Well, I bothered to ask today about it and the truck is mine for certain. He's never asking for it back. I can't say I blame him. Before I start getting into why I just said that, let me go around describing the truck first. The Indigo Blue Metalliac 1998 Chevrolet S10 LS regular cab with the 2.2 liter four and 5-speed manual I've been handed has the mid-level gray cloth upholstery and a CD player. The truck is equipped similar to 1999's Survival Pak S10s, although this truck doesn't have it. Now, I won't start making a long par…

I was so happy to see this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/eo/20060624/en_tv_...HNlYwN5bmNhdA-- Futurama will be back (with Billy West, John Dimaggio and Katey Segal) on Cartoon Network in 2008. While the Simpsons have really lost their bite, Futurama was just hitting its stride when FOX assured that it would fail by pre-empting with crappy football, changing dates and times to a point where fans had no idea if it was going to be on or not. All right! It's Saturday night, I have no date, a two liter bottle of Shasta and my all-Rush mix tape, let's rock!

There's been plenty of relationship/"who did you bang last week"/"look at that ass" threads here and let me present the other side of the story. The story of the guy who feels confused and (strangely) depressed because he hasn't been in a relationship since the end of sixth grade. I don't know how many people here are single and sick of it, but I know I am. I mean, it was fun for about maybe a year and a half, but then it got...old really quick. "Isn't it funny that when you're single all you see are couples [and when you're part of a couple all you see are hookers]?" Who said that? Jim Gaffigan? Well, he was right. Ah, I'm highly aware of how pathedic it seems to be …

So I went out to the dealers tonight to see what new models they had and took some pics of them. Unfortunately the lighting is always really bright at car dealerships at night so some of the pics turned out bad because of it, so I apologize for the poor quality of some of the pics (I actually deleted probably half of them because some were so bad). Anyways, first up was the G6 coupe. It looked better than I was expecting, and I actually quite liked the rear. The rearseat legroom looked very good for a coupe, and the interior looked much better with the new steering wheel. I think a GTP with the 18s would be quite a looker. Here is perhaps my favorite pic, I wasn…

Got boned for $1,000. The rear right tire of the BMW had a small leak so I took it to Discount Tires. While inspecting the tires, the store personnel saw a 12-inch gash in the interior wall of the front left tire going into the steel reinforcement. I have no idea how that happened. The Bridgestone run flat that came with the car was $389 per tire, and the GoodYear F1 All Season was $201 per tire, so I decided to replace both fronts since, I hated the ride of the run flats anyways. Plus GoodYears come with 25,000 miles warranty. Yay for Z-rated tires I guess! I went for lunch while they replaced the front tires and fixed the rear right. The guy calls me saying you need t…

Okay so I went to this carshow in Phoenix today, and it was friggin sweet! I saw basically the tightest Cadillac CTS-V of my life: it had a supercharged and stroked LS6 with built internals! Also, the rest of the car was extremely nice. It had a borla exhaust i believe the guy said, and some 20 inch wheels that I would actually have dropped. The car was still very clean, and it even had nos, which is sort of cool but I dont think it was really necessary. The guy said it dynoed 550 hp without the nos, and runs 12s at the track. Needless to say, I was very impressed. The only thing I didnt like was he put 2 Cadillac V symbols on the back of the car, and the 20 inch …

Last Wednesday my gf and I went to an auto auction. We sat in an drove many vehicles. Some were good some were not so good and some were pretty horrible. There were a couple GM cars I saw and looked at. a previous gen Grand Prix, and a 90's Seville. I didn't get to test drive either, but I did sit in them. The Caddy was nice, with plenty of soft materials and so on. I've always been a fan of the styling, but it's not a car I could afford, so I passed on it. It was quite the circus..walked around for about 6 hrs, spent an hour or so sitting down watching some of the actual auctioneering. Many, many Mopies ('68-70 Road Runners, '70-72 Cudas, Challengers, '68-70 Chargers, etc). Lots of Mustangs (incl. 2 red '69 Boss 429s) and various Shelbys.. There were quite a few '50s-60s big cars as well..the usual '57 Bel Airs, Corvettes and Thunderbirds, along with a massive '57 Roadmaster conv..a couple '59 Buicks, '59 and '60 Olds, a couple '59 Pontiacs and 4 '61 Catalinas and Bonnevilles.... I saw 4 Intrepids there, which made me sad. 2 were wrecked, one of them had no engine, and the other actually looked ok...but I couldn't get at it...probably a dead 2.7L. So... I went yesterday. I went with my parents, grandpa and a friend of mine. We all walked around together to all the exhibits - if somebody wanted to see it, we would spend a little time. The only companies that we didn't go to? Toyota and Kia. Kia just didnt have anything new we wanted to see, and there were a few comments about not having enough coffee for the Toyota exhibit. GM's exhibit was really impressive. They had a stage where they drove the vehicles up as they introduced them. Lexus had a really impressive 'owners lounge' at the back of their exhibit. Show your Lexus key, get in to the lounge and get free coffee, food etc. Ford actually had a decent e…

My cat is fascinated with the bathtub. In the a.m., when I am in the bathroom doing other things, she jumps up on the edge of the tub and wants me to turn the water on at a drip. She then jumps in and walks UNDER the stream, like a little dummy. She always seems surprised when she gets wet that way. Then she asks me to shut the water off, so she can drink without getting splashed. Later, after my shower, she immediately jumps in the tub as I exit. She sits in the wet tub and loves it. Is my cat we todd it?

Today it was 61 with lots of sunshine, a few fair weather clouds, and a light breeze. This qualifies as the perfect day for me. Warm enough to wear shorts but cool enough to not break a sweat when doing activities outside. It really is a breath of fresh air after this past week of gray and rain, and after last night's events. I took the opportunity to put my stereo back in the car, finish cleaning the front passenger seat, and cleaning the engine bay a bit. Crap battery be damned, I jumped my car and went for a 37 mile drive on the quiet winding back roads with the window open and the stereo on. My goodness, these seats are amazingly comfortable. Today I woke up early with all sorts of grand plans to get things accomplished. I took care of the dogs and walked to the Silverado to go get my morning coffee - that's when things turned bad. The Silverado had a very flat tire. So, I think OK I can deal with that and proceed to attempt to change the tire. Well, after getting all of the never-used jack and lug wrench stuff out from its compartment behind the seat, I take off the centercap and try the first lug. Stuck. I mean really stuck. I fight with it for a while with no effect, then actually stand on the lug wrench - no movement. I start to jump on the lug wrench and It finally started to move. I think "g…

So it's been raining since what seems like forever...I think Friday night. It's really grinding my gears. In the past week I've gone to start the Prizm and twice it wouldn't start. First time was corrosion all over teh negative connector and terminal (non on the new positive one). Cleaned it up and life was good until the 2nd time. Cleaned it some more and put some grease on it. Seemed fine until i went to run an errand this morning and it did the same thing. So, while there's a break in the rain, I go and have another look at this terminal connector. Turns out it too has cracked and is ready to break. Lovely. So since I need the car for today, I take the GM and get a…

This is why i cant have fast cars. I drove the vette to work today and on my way home i got pulled over for doing 147 of course that caused a whole ordeal... I was arrested and my car was towed away. Once i get to the police station I try to state some people i know and after some calls i was let go but my wife didn't get me till 10pm... I will have to pay all towing fees and such which doesn't bother me. I will call a police chief I know to take care of the rest, hopefully. whats ironic is that early this morning i was helping a army recruiter at a high school and i was telling kids how to be safe in cars.. Also when they where searching my car they found some funny…

Friday was the suckiest day of the summer. First off, my alarm clock didn't go off when it was supposed to, meaning that my mom came in very pissed off at me (I work at my parents' office, so that means she's my boss as well as my mom). Second, we ran out of my cereal, which meant that breakfast consisted of a very old, very dry Quaker oatmeal square. Third, it was hot-very hot and humid, and the air conditioner in the office decided to crap out on my side of the building-and only my side. But the worst part of the day was that my truck got sick-very, very sick. My dad usually drives it into work because he gets up before my mom and I do, so he gets his choice of vehicl…

I was watching Future weapons and found that they have a bullet that can be basically a point and shoot at 2500 yards on a cold bore shot. Thats very impressive I would bow down to that. But I remember reading about gravity, elevation, temperature, and all those other variables that effect a ballistic path. Its not like you can line up the cross hairs and go. you had to mentally do all the math from your GPS, offset your X hairs, and commit. I believe my longest one is 1,917 yards but about 5 minutes after that shot I don't remember anything but waking up that night in a Medic tent in unbearable pain. Sadly the Guy that saved me that day died on my birthday this year. …

Grieving her 11-year-old daughter's suicide Father's brush with police, bullies' taunts and threats to her new puppy gradually sapped a Winnipeg girl of the will to live By JULIUS STRAUSS Friday, October 7, 2005 Page A1 WINNIPEG -- For 11-year-old Kathleen Beardy it was all simply too much. First she watched as her father Kelly was handcuffed and dragged from the family home by two police officers. Then she was forced to endure the seemingly endless taunts of neighbourhood bullies in her tough Winnipeg district. Finally, her delight when she bought a small puppy for $2 turned to dismay as bullies made off with her new pet, telling her th…

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3013016&page=1 Unbelievable. I wonder if they know that it was the Fuhrer himself who started VW, as the "people's car"? Ah, a car for the master race, no wonder VW's are so good. That and most Jewish people to this day will still not drive Mercedes and BMW's either, because these companies used slave laborers from the death camps. I don't even know how much of the above article is true, as it's widely known that the Germans stole Opel from GM during WWII, but were made to give it back after the war.

I can't believe what just happened to me. This kind of crap only happens on TV, until now. So I was walking home from the bar with a friend and we thought we might go buy some... herbs. He knew a park where people normally sell so we went there and asked somebody. Guy ended up leading us to a girl who phoned a friend. This should have been hint #1. Why do we need to go somewhere? Nope, we're drunk, and too trusting. Proceed! So the guy proceeds to tell us that the seller is really paranoid and he needs to do the deal for us. (Hint #2) We agreed because me and my friend are both bigger than him and good runners, should he try something stupid. So sure enough he takes of…

Insured and re-registered the Grand Marquis Monday, got a battery for it today. Duralast Gold. It was about 20 degrees and it hadn't been started or taken around the block in at least a month. It was 22 degrees. Fired right up, took it for a 10 mile drive through traffic, back roads, and some highway. Works like a champ. Next week it's getting a "new" transmission.

Save the Earth in Six Hard Questions By Steven Landsburg http://www.slate.com/id/2176156/ Barring a last-minute intervention by the Supreme Court, the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize will be shared by Albert Gore Jr. Admittedly, Gore has been less of a menace to world peace than some previous laureates (think Henry Kissinger). But there is nothing particularly peaceable about Gore's rhetorical approach to climate policy. At his most pugnacious, Gore has depicted the fundamental trade-off as one between environmental responsibility and personal greed. Of course, as everyone over the age of 12 is perfectly aware, the real trade-off is between the quality of our own lives and the …

So, I notice yesterday that I'm driving one of those crapbox Lincolns with the busted air shocks. The air shock on the right rear strut finally gave out, so I felt like my Olds was riding on just the springs as that part of the car rebounded jarringly after hitting any small deviation in the road surface. I take it to my buddies at Goodyear/Gemini and they run it up on the perch for me. Yup. Its the shock. Not only that, but the left rear is leaking. Not covered under my ValueGuard (of course) and they quoted me a price of $249 for a set of shocks, labor, tax, etc. I decided to just do it myself and enlist my father to help me (worked out the other way around :P ). I …

I dislike stereotypes, but the Houston gay boys' car choices have inspired the topic. Around Houston, BMW 3 Series and 5 Series are associated with the epicenter of car gayness... if there is such a thing. Five to ten years ago, it was Mercedes. Among our many BMW-loving friends, my partner and I are considered out-of-touch and "a little rough around the edges"" with a Subaru and a GMC in our garage.

I'm bound to get a response like "Reading f@#king sucks, man, go watch television" here, but whatever. I'm willing to take that risk. So, question is, what are you reading? I don't care if it's a novel the size of a $h!house brick, the Bible, "Car and Driver", or the side of a cereal carton, just post, up the old post count, and whistle some cheezy tune in the key of A. What am I reading? "Futility" by Morgan Robertson and "The Sun Dog" by Stephen King. Note: I feel like mentioning the novella "Futility" for one, if not a few, reasons. I'd like to point out that it was the novel that strangely foreshadowed the Titanic disaster of 1912. (The book wa…

So, there was a thread similiar to this that I can't find (I'm sure someone will post a link though when THEY find it! ). Originally, I replied that we were going to pay off the G6 in mid-2014 (if not earlier) and then the Envoy in early 2016, at which time I'd look to get me a new GMC Sierra pickup. The the wife fell in love with the Buick Encore and wants to consider leasing one when they hit the market (meaning one of the two current vehicles has to go). Logic says dump the Envoy - it will be 7 years old and still has 3 years left on the loan - and keep the G6 since it's almost paid off (and likely not a good trade-in value). Though I don't want to be without a tru…

What are your New Year's Eve and New Year's Day Traditions? Since I am starting this off, I will tell you what Mine are, been the same for the last 26 years of Marriage. I am married to a Korean and they have very specific things that are done. We start off with a Korean Pot sticker making party in the first week of Dec. Make hundreds, people who help get some to take home, most are kept for use in what is called Korean New Year's Day Soup. We then start on the 26th and make a ton of homemade Beef broth with flank steak in it that is then shredded. We also make a wide variety of Korean side dishes from scratch. This takes multiple days as to why we …

My wife's company is headquartered in Denmark (it's a pharmacutical company). She was asked to attend a workshop there for several days next week (Sept 23-27). She asked what I'd like for her to bring me back, and I couldn't really think of anything until this morning. Depending on what brand of GM vehicles are sold there (i.e. Vauxhall, Opel), I'd like a brochure from them (I'm a cheap person to get gifts for at times). She'll have time to tour the city and will be taken around by someone she knows from Denmark that comes to the States often at her work, so they should know where to find these dealerships. Any help???

We all know that the US market is VERY overcrowded with brands, so leaving the big ones out of it (Toyota and Honda aren't going anywhere) what brands need to disappear? Think of the ones that simply drain away sales from more viable brands and don't have much going for themselves. Who needs to go? And, what would be a "good mix" afterward?

Well upon going down to the dealer to get the oil changed in the Cavalier this morning, My dad went with me and we decided to wait for the car, so we browsed the showroom to kill time. We checked out a black 2007 Cobalt LT that 'twas fairly well equipped and remarked that it would probably be better for my mother than the Maxx, he current daily car... I think, along with him, that the woman is just dangerous with any more than 4 Cylinders. We were treated to a 20KPH over the speed limit ride yesterday in the Maxx illustrated this thought pretty well... What Car is a Definite Home(r) Run? Monday, 11th October, 2010 by "black-knight" I'm sure that if you're an average American you've probably watched Fox's long-running animated sitcom "The Simpsons" at one point in your lifetime. I'm also sure that if you're an average American who likes cars that's watched that aforementioned TV show, you know about The Homer, the car protagonist Homer Simpson designed himself for his half-brother's (Herb Powell) domestic automobile manufacturer, Powell Motors. Okay, well, if you didn't before now, now you do and you can see that hunk of fictional American metal in the header above. Now, there's an old saying that goes, "Life i…

I apologize if it's so obvious it will bite me, but what car is this, picture on GM's corporate website? Some sort of Cadillac? click here Interesting how they went to the trouble of highlighting (or making stand out) those interior controls in blue. [ EDIT ] No, wait, a different vehicle comes up everytime you click on the site. The one I'm asking about is a gray-ish two-door, with a sculpted side, a vent in the fender, and seems small.
