So this past Wednesday CSpec and I met up for the first it. It was great meeting a member from the site, we need to do this sort of thing more often. We hung out for somewhere around four hours, talking about the site, our cars, and playing around with his new camera. So of course, since cameras were involved, I took photos with my own.

I don't usually put change in my pocket before I leave the house. This morning, a penny came out in the wash, so I put it in my shorts before going grocery shopping. As I waited in the self-checkout, I counted my money. Exactly $61.01 in my pocket. Imagine my shock and delight when my bill came to... $61.01!!!!! How often does this happen? Should I play the lottery?

How Immigration Crackdowns Backfire Reason Arizona legislators are fed up with being terrorized by illegal immigrants, and they have passed a law to get tough. Under the measure, passed this week and sent to the governor, police would have to stop and question anyone they suspect of being in this country without legal authorization. The bill passed after the fatal shooting of Robert Krentz, a 58-year-old rancher whose killer apparently entered illegally from Mexico. Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu says police are also under siege: "We've had numerous officers that have been killed by illegal immigrants in Arizona." Even Sen. John McCain, once a supporter of immigratio…

Okay well I just can't help myself I'm so dog gonned obsessed with this whole four door hardtop thing that I had to share some of cool google finds with you. I find redeming value in some of the ugliest, plainest or otherwise unexciting cars if they have a hardtop greenhouse. I've decided to dedicate a thread, THIS ONE, to pictures of just four door hardtops of all makes and years. Forget those retarded "4-door-coupe" Mercedes Benzes that have no concept of reality... this is as sexy as a four door car will ever get IMHO. P.S. for obvious reasons I've tried to post only pictures where all four windows are rolled down. B) Something Olds Somethi…

Went to bed at 3:49am, set Alarm Clock for 7:40am, I startled myself awake (nightmare) and litteraly as soon as I stood up out of bed and starred at the alarm clock it turned from 7:39 to 7:40 and the alarm went off. Less than 2 seconds after my having woken up. What's more creepy than the fact that my alarm clock is Atomic Clock accurate is the fact that this heppens quite often. Bizzare & frankly, a bit perplexing. Anyone else have this happen on occasion?

I'm pretty unsatisfied with both of my computers right now. My desktop is pretty much a Frankenstein hodge-podge of newer parts (motherboard, processor...) and parts from previous computers (hard drive, RAM...). The thing is pretty slow by today's standards and it been grating on my nerves for a while. The Compaq laptop is much faster (2.8GHz Pentium 4, 512MB RAM) but is an unreliable POS. The power connector broke, the keyboard and touchpad are dead and the montior has some dead pixels. Not to mention it gets hot and is loud as hell. So I've recently been looking at alternatives for the future and came across a pretty good-looking deals on Alienware and Mac G5 compute…

*** Writing is one of my passions ... along with my 2-year-old nephew, cars, taking pictures, road tripping, hosting radio shows, music, collections (models, HO scale train, legos), etc. Last month, I started writing more on my Route 66 story, as I noted here: Along with writing for C&G sometimes, I recently joined a friend's blog, Motor Gnomes, as a Staff Writer: http://www.motorgnomes.com/2011/03/introducing-staff-writer-cort-stevens/ This should be fun ... and a good way to encourage/foster/enliven me to write more often. My first entry is here: http://www.motorgnomes.com/2011/03/charging-forth/ As for my Route 66 story, I was a bit disheartened when, aft…

The President spoke at a meeting today at the hotel just north of the office building where i work today. Literally a couple hundred feet or less away. The point where they brought him in the building was across from the north side of our floor which I work on. So we spent a good deal of the afternoon waiting to see the motorcade arrive and leave. He drives into a tent and they close the tent so the general public cannot see what's going on. Personally, I get the feeling they have some Famous Dave's barbeque under the tent that all the security forces and GW were snacking on. There was less of a visible force than I imagined there would be, but who knows, maybe th…

Please check out some of my pictures from the show and let me know what you think. Perhaps you can make plans on attending this year's event. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/3722

So I was driving home from work last week, when my Yukon started making a thumping noise. At first I thought it was just a bent rim or something, but I would have only been so lucky. After checking out all the wheels and taking it for another drive, I noticed that it only happened under power. After talking to a few people and having them take a look it, we thought it might be the U joint. It looked worn, but after replacing that the sound was still coming from somewhere else. It sounded like it was coming from the rear end. We took a look in the rear end, and this is what we found laying on the bottom.... We decided that this wasn't something that could be do…

from melodicrock.com This is ridiculous - they can't just go into the studio together and jam. Everything has to involve lawyers, contracts, and paperwork. They're a joke that's been running for 11 years....remember when they used to be such a tight, yet carefree party band (with both Dave and Sammy)? You have to feel sorry for their fans, they've been teased way too many times.

So, I've seen a couple horrible things as of late, and I thought I'd share my pain. The first one was an Element with a "Hummer H0.5" badge. The second was a Shadow with a grille from a 95-02 Sunfire slapped on top of its own. The Shadow grille is pretty much vertical, with a horizontal bumper below it - So the Sunfire grille laid above both, making a 45 degree angle to each, with big triangular holes on both sides where the grille didn't line up with the rest of the car. Awful. NSX with red Honda badge. Why do people do this? You don't see anyone putting a Chevy badge on a Cadillac.

The Ford Taurus came out in 1986. I remember seeing it for the first time. I thought it was THE most featureless, generic space pod of a car I'd ever seen...(NO GRILLE?), but sales took off. The car sort of defined Ford for 2 decades... but the Taurus wasn't the first modern-day experiment by Ford with aerodynamics... does anyone remember the 1983 Thunderbird? That car, to me, was a revelation after the horribly boxy '80-'82 T-bird (which only looked good in dark colors, with steel top and the sport aluminum wheels with blackwalls) Is there any glimmer of love at all here for the '83 Thunderbird? With the 130 hp 302 or the turbo 4 cylinder, it was a decent performer…

Since it was pointed out that I might have a strong bias towards GM products, it made me think about what my first choice for each of the respective vehicle segments would be and how many of those segments GM might win. B-Segment (subcompacts, super mini, city car) - None of the above really since the VW Up! isn't here, I haven't driven the new Spark yet, I didn't like the current Spark. Sonic if that counts in this segment and I'm forced to pick. C-Segment (compacts) - Mazda 3 C-Segment (Luxury Compact) - C-Class D-Segment (mid-size) - Chrysler 200c (I know it's not the journalists favorite, but I like the powertrain and interior) D-Segment (Luxury Mid-size) -…

Far too often these are hard only for narrowing down all the amazing choices on offer. Not this one. Oh, no. Today friends, you are going to be limited only base models. And I mean base. Bottom of the barrel. No options, no exceptions. Rules- 1- These are your only vehicles. 2- You are allowed a maximum of 5 choices. 3- Production vehicles only. 4- Car can come from any market. 5- You are allowed to pick ONE vehicle that isn't NEW. Leaving the full list open to older cars will cause too much confusion and likelihood of rule-bending. 6- You can also choose to MODIFY ONE of your choices. 7- You may only choose TWO high-end spor…

Given the announced threat that the new CAFE regulations have become for the zeta platform, here is my prescription to use that architecture as an advantge in the CAFE race. At the bare minimum each zeta variant would offer flex-fuel and/or 2-mode and/or AFM, with diesel and other technologies applied as required. I've been thinking... Rather than getting a loan and buying something nice right away, should I just look into another beater? Course, one that isn't as much of a money pit as nor as inefficient as the Cutlass. I currently have about $1200 saved up that could go towards something... decent. Nothing stellar, but something affordable to drive around in while I attempt to sell the Cutlass. As mentioned, the Cutlass is too much of a money pit, especially in gas. This would allow me to save money at a much greater rate. Some of you still think I should put it into my Millenia, but at the moment its on the back burner until something changes on the diagnostic level. I would…

This financial product helped me buy my current car. I loved the "top off," which meant"rounding up." It gave me an extra $700+ when I bought the last car. They recently ran another "top off." QUESTION(S): How is this financial product managed? I know the bookkeeping for each cardholder's account is separate, but are they managed separately like a trust ... or are they pooled? I know they couldn't manage an individual cardholder's account, as in spending time doing that, but maybe they might manage them in tiers (accounts with similar amount in benefits, economic cycles, spending habits, goings-on and trends at GM, etc.) From what I recall, the usual tak…

I was wondering if any of you guys could give me advice on a camera tripod. The one I have is old and well, a piece of crap. It's held together with J-B Weld, lacks the features I want, but worst of all, can't hold the camera steady. So here's my criteria: Durable, but fairly lightweight Must be able to tilt the camera 90 degrees and be able to pan up and down...at the very least. Detachable release plate. $50 is the limit...I can go a little over but I'd prefer not too...on a budget. Now, I'm gonna have to take a trip to the camera store and play with some to see how the features work...because I don't know exactly how a 90 vertical platform works...for example.…

My son was getting extremely rambunctious (probably the first 2.5 year old to ever be that way) so I pulled out his gigantic Hot Wheels collection. Barely a peep out of him since, he's on the office floor playing with all the cars, occasionally making "Vroom, Vroom" noises. His favorites seem to be the Plymouth Prowler and BMW 850ci. Most of "his" Hot Wheels are my old ones, including what appears to have been a Citation hatchback that I de-roofed at some point.

Go ahead pick you favorite one or two cars. Try not to select more than three! Keep in mind my needs, has to have a nice size trunk, good performance (think like my SLE, good), can be driven for fun on the weekends and also driven to school/work by my son or I during the week, should be a good car with few expensive repairs, oh and it must be GM. If it isn't on the list it isn't being considered! 2008-2009 Cobalt XFE Coupe... I really like the fuel economy and the fact that it has a nice trunk and is a 5spd is a bonus. If I got one I would wish I had a G5 anyways. 2008-2009 G5 XFE... Same as the Cobalt but way better looking. 2001-2002 Grand Prix GT Coupe... A…

Linkity 'Infectious' People Spread Memes Across the Web 08:45 12 August 2009 by Colin Barras The way that certain images, videos or concepts can suddenly spread like wildfire across the web, using email and social websites to propagate, is one of online culture's most unique phenomena. Now Spanish researchers claim to have found a way to accurately predict how quickly and widely new pieces of information, or "memes" as they are called, will spread. The ability to forecast this "viral" behaviour would be of great interest to sociologists and marketeers, among others. The secret, they say, is to recognise the fact that peo…

Last Saturday for lunch I went and checked out a new sushi restaurant in town. I like my sushi spicy, so when I spotted a three-roll spicy combo on the menu, I knew what I wanted. Except... one of the rolls was octopus, and I am scared of octopus. Tuna and salmon are lovely though. I asked the lady if I could substitute an extra salmon roll for the octopus. She said, in a heavy accent, "no substitution". I reluctantly said "OK", and she went up to the bar and turned in my order. Two minutes later she came back to my table and said "sorry, we out of octopus, is OK two tuna roll?" WTF?

I just read the line in Sixty8's sig that reads: "In fact, did you know a Chevrolet (small block) V8 with no oil in it and no water in it will last about two hours before it disintegrates? We did it twice. The first time it lasted an hour and 15 minutes and the second time it lasted two hours." It reminded me of something my Physics teacher said he learned from an engineer. That a 60s Muscle Car lets off more emissions while not running than a new car does turned on?

Time for some brutal honesty. It's not secret that I'm dissapointed with the Buick lineup as of late. I personally think it sucks. The "fresh" names are lame, the two sedan, one SUV and pair of crossovers is completely retarded & the even worse is the lack of the following: - Affordable sedan (Century) - Personal Luxury 'Coupe' (2dr Reagal) - RWD cars (Regal ) - Bold Styling (last gen Riviera or Park Ave Ultra) - Supercharging or turbocharging, it used to be a Buick trademark - Names that have their roots in Buick history not "masturbation" in French. And the list goes on. But I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you my o…

Every place I've ever worked (and college/univ., too, for that matter) had those cliques that went out and took their smoke breaks together. It's a weird cult of sorts, in my mind. I've also noticed that, working for architectural firms, most of the "smoking circles" were the less productive employees (in the firms I've been employed by)...and they seem to have more Jerry Springer type drama in their lives. Yeah, I know, I'm a stereotyping jerk, but now having worked for a handful of architectural firms, this pattern seems to hold up. Any observations about smoking cliques?

My parents really want our old car back so they heard about the whole history report thing so they want to track down the vehicle. They really want it back for a vehicle for me and we believe it is one from the good batch. It is our beloved 1989 Chrysler Dynasty LE. I want to see possibly where it went and track it down if possible. We got rid of it in 2002 with just over 120k on it I believe. It had no body rust even and ran great. It had a V6 and blue cloth interior with bench seat. It was dark blue on the outside. This car has great sentimental value and we realize now we should've kept it. I am just afraid to find it salvaged or something. I would really appreciate it…

For the last two years the Sauber F1 Team mechanics have been using their downtime to slice a Formula One racing car lengthwise down the middle with the precision of true craftsmen. Chief Designer Matt Morris quite literally gets underneath the skin of the F1 car, pointing out where and how the individual components are located within the chassis. Everything is packed in pretty tightly. Sergio Pérez is also on hand to demonstrate the driver's seating position.

The Infiniti G35, the worst performer, sustained almost $14,000 damage in a series of 4 tests conducted at 3 and 6 mph by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Saab 9-3 was the best, sustaining $5,243 damage. Only 3 cars sustained less than $6,000 damage, while 4 would cost more than $10,000 to fix. "The Infiniti was a disaster…

Been a long time, so this one is overdue. And it's a fun one to jump back with. C&D just posted up their First Drive Review of the new 991.2 Turbo. Here is the link- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2017-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive-review Since there was no as-tested price, we're going to use the range from just below base price on a Turbo, to just above base price on a Turbo S. That's a nice ~50K bracket. So, you have to spend at least $150,000, but no more than $200,000. The only requirement is that the car be some sort of high-end sport coupe/sport-GT/etc. Have fun.

I work with this dope who LOVES Hondas. He thinks that they are God's gift to cars. I mean really, this guy told me how one of the sickest and fastest cars on the street right now is the last gen. Prelude. According to him a TSX is the best sport sedan on the market. But here's the kicker... he drives a '96 Dodge Neon. Today he told me how his Neon is stupid-quick, quite the sleeper. What mods has he performed you ask? He installed a cam from an Intrepid. I - kid - you - not - ! Honda: for those too dumb to own Mopar.

Sounds like he's trying to make a comeback after, what, 20 years? Would you listen to his new stuff? I definitely would. He's got a new one out with Akon that I really like. You can tell the hint of MJ rhythm in it and it works out really good. I love MJ's old stuff, too, so I'd definitely be a fan...

What an intresting month, General Motors has a less than stellar month thanks to idot UAW workers striking, high gas prices and market heading towards the $h!ter. Toyota manages to push more ugly vanila Camry's than last May. My sons boss took his 2006 Ford F-150 Super Crew FX4 and traded it on a 2008 Honda Accord EX 4cyl. Sedan, lost his ass on the sweet red truck I know. (I can't fault him for getting a Honda my son said to him as long as it isn't a Toyota Ken (which it is not) I wish you the best of luck with it!) So let the rant begin. I can't believe the number of Prius's that keep poping up in my town. Those ugly little most likely slow moving "gr…

Which car models do you think should sell better than they do? Why do you think they don't sell better? Limit of three models and must be in production (not just leftovers still on sale but not currently being built).

Today (Sunday the 13th) was a great day for car shows... the weather was awesome andthere was a "street rod" event at Canobie Lake Park, as well as the Endicott Estate car show where I showed my '59 Buick LeSabre last year, I actually it parked tailfin-to-tailfin with a '60 LeSabre 2dr hardtop. But I missed both of those shows... an a half dozen others. In fact, shockingly I was no where near a paved road. But it's all good because SpeedingPenguin, myself & a few buddies were up in thewoods of New Hampshire at (undisclosed location) "wasting" $200 worht of Ammo & eating $50 worth of BBQ'd hot dogs & cheeseburgers. It was quite an ecle…

What can I say... this is an apt analogy for our Country as a whole. . http://onlyndetroit.com/html/decay/ond-001...yunderworld.htm . I wonder how much manufacturing will remain state-side when my daughters are my age...? On the other hand the city of Detroit seems to be the most amazing & interesting example of decay & urban ruins. I would have a field day there with a camera. I bet i would fill up a 200GB hard drive with photos in less than a week.

...giving a $h! anymore. About GM Hell, about the country itself. It all just seems so hoplessly wrong, and determined to become even moreso. The popular "visions" for the future that are bandied about are anathema to me. I'm starting to become very, very, angry. I'm not loving the time we live in at all. And it has almost nothing to do with the economy either. So, what to do?

http://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/cto/1206301823.html Text of the ad is below in case it gets removed: For sale is a POS (piece of S---) 1986 Ford Bronco II bought from LEE SWEELEY in Clinton Iowa no more than 8 hours ago. I talked my cousin into driving 93 miles (186 round trip) to go pick up this piece of crap in CLINTON, IOWA yesterday evening. I will try to fill you in on a few things HE left out before I made the hour and a half trip (three hours round trip) wasting a half a tank of gas or more. First of all, the windshield is cracked clean across the entire thing... which he "forgot to tell (me)" about on the phone after speaking with him several times... or…

[source: Wall Street Journal] Windows 7 Is Strong, But PC Lift Unclear By NICK WINGFIELD Consumers snapped up copies of Microsoft Corp.'s new Windows 7 operating system during its first week on store shelves, though it's too soon to tell to what extent the software will ignite sales of new personal computers. Sales of Windows 7 have been "fantastic" since the launch, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said at a press event in Tokyo Thursday, without providing details. The first glimpse into demand for Windows 7 came from NPD Group, a research firm that tracks retail sales. NPD said unit sales of boxed copies of Windows …

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbwSwvUaRqc&feature=player_embedded Does this make any sense to any of you? I'll quote the blog I got it from: "This is the blunt-end result of all the war imagery and militaristic rhetoric politicians have been spewing for the last 30 years—cops dressed like soldiers, barreling through the front door middle of the night, slaughtering the family pets, filling the house with bullets in the presence of children, then having the audacity to charge the parents with endangering their own kid. There are 100-150 of these raids every day in America, the vast, vast majority like this one, to serve a warrant for a consensual crime. But they di…

So unexpected and didn't know it was available here yet.....saw a Buick Lucerne V8 on the street in deep burgundy, in Calgary, Alberta. I have to admit, this car has the 'it' factor...it looks very good.....eons beyond the LeSabre in street presence...not even in the same galaxy. They may be on to something here.

We all got conditioned to having it in the steering column. Then, after renting Intrigues, GPs and Malibus, I found that having it in the dash is kind of cool. Slap on the wrist to LaCrosse and Lucerne for having it on the column.

We know who you hate on C&G (sort of) so who do you hate outside of C&G? I would stab the following people in the face*: Bryan Adams John Basedow John Stamos Chris Berman Dick Cheney Thats all I can think of right now. *I do not condone violence towards anyone, but these people really annoy me and I make an effort to avoid them.
