Long story short: -Let sister borrow car today. -Doors already unlocked when she goes to open it. I think nothing of it at the time. -Used the car later in the day and upon coming home notice that my CD case is missing. -Tear apart the interior to no avail. -Conclusion: Someone entered my car the previous night and stole my $h!. I could've sworn I locked the damn thing when I parked it for the previous night. Result: ~$150 worth of CDs gone. So goddamn pissed right now...

You know... there are days I think my car doesn't like me and is trying to kill me. We had a bad snowstorm last night and the roads were crap... By the afternoon commute I was driving down the expressway @ 80KPH and all of the ice had melted. There was lots of spray and I set the wipers to "Mist". wouldn't you know it- in the middle of a busy expressway, the wipers go up and freeze in the full upright position ! I try all the wiper settings and all I get are angry motor noises from the wiper motor. Meanwhile my windshield is getting dirtier and dirtier because of the spray. Since there's nowhere for me to really pull over and turn the car off, I have to drive home …

Has anyone noticed how they keep adding all these new features to Facebook that make it easier for people to know every little detail about yourself? Just this morning, I logged in and there's a new feature called "News Feed" that highlights everything you have done recently on facebook...posting on walls, commenting on pictures, accepting invitations, etc. Talk about stalkerish. The only feature that was cool was adding photos...everything since then has been unnecessary. There are some people that update that profile badge thing every day, making sure everyone knows their whereabouts. I haven't used it once. I've heard Facebook has ties to the CIA and that it's …

I found these funny... Facts about Mr. T 1. Every time a bell rings, Mr. T pities a fool. 2. Mr. T speaks only when necessary. His main form of communication is folding his arms and slowly shaking his head. Regardless of the situation, he is always understood. 3. Mr. T once punched Chuck Norris at the exact moment that Norris roundhouse-kicked Mr. T in the chest. The result was the 80’s. 4. Twenty-three. That’s the number of fools Mr. T has pitied in the time it has taken you to read this sentence. 5. Mr. T does not break wind. He destroys it. 6. Mr. T ended the civil rights movement by getting on a bus … all the caucasian people moved to the back. 7. Mr. T i…

We saw plenty of these multi-level parking structures during our trip to NYC this past week, and even commented on how their space efficiency would work well in our own cities where giant parking garages dominate the landscape. Perhaps we spoke too soon. Autoblog reader Mel spotted this scene just around the corner from the Jacob Javits Center where the 2009 New York Auto Show is being held. The multi-level steel parking structure evidently failed, sending a Lexus GS sliding down on top of a Land Rover and the front end of an also-raised Honda Accord. The kicker? A 1998 Chrysler Town and Country and older Camry sit just outside the frame unscathed. The Ford Edge that ju…

This has always been of interest to me. Of course Detroit and Flint are the famous ones, but scattered throughout the Midwest and Great Lakes states are smaller cities that were once heavy on industry and now empty shells. Some places like the Quad Cities, St. Louis, and Cleveland are making a comeback, while others like the ones listed below continue to deteriorate. Gary, Indiana - founded in 1906 by US Steel Corporation, it was Indiana's 2nd largest city until changing demographics, steel layoffs, and rising crime sent almost half of the population packing. Today it has just under 100,000 people. Gary in the early 60's --------- East St. Louis, Illino…

As home prices continue to decline and loan defaults mount, federal regulators are bracing for dozens of American banks to fail over the next year. But after a large mortgage lender in California collapsed late Friday, Wall Street analysts began posing two crucial questions: Just how many banks might falter? And, more urgently, which one could be next? The nation’s banks are in far less danger than they were in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when more than 1,000 federally insured institutions went under during the savings-and-loan crisis. The debacle, the greatest collapse of American financial institutions since the Depression, prompted a government bailout that cos…

I was thinking about the list of cars that where failures but should of been successful. the short list please add or comment Aztek looks are out there but the versatility is amazing. Thunderbird should of had more power but a very nice car. SSR Too slow and pricey but again very nice car. A dream on the back roads. The GTO sorta but it still sold. Theres a bunch out there but these are the top 3 in my book.

After Ford released Bold Moves: Episode 15; Pitching the Fairlane Concept, we saw parts of what we all thought was the production version of the Ford Fairlane concept, or was it??!! I just got the recent December issue of Motor Trend, and according to them, the Fairlane concept will be very different. Was what we saw just a cancelled prototype? An idea that was originally the answer, but isn't? When wil it debut? What will it's production form take on? Thjese answeres are but to be answered.

A lockdown Friday morning at the General Motors proving grounds prompted by a fake gun — part of work on an emergency vehicle in development — "turned out to be nothing," Milford police later said. GM confirmed that it was a "false alarm." "There was a workplace situation earlier today," Maria Raynal, a GM spokeswoman, clarified. "Police responded accordingly. All employees are safe. Work has resumed at the campus." The incident, which sent social media into a frenzy, was first reported by WWJ. Just before 10 a.m., two buildings went into lockdown, the radio station said, after a tipster reported seeing a massive law enforcement response, which including Oakla…

Fake news has been in the press a lot lately, so I figured let's generate some of our own. Rules: 1. It has to be automotive related, no politics, not even a hint of politics. 2. It has to be plausible enough to be believable by someone who isn't a car enthusiast. (I.E., no Tucker is not resuming operations, no GM is not reviving Pontiac) 3. Write it as if it were a press release or news announcement.

I don't see many of these anymore. Most are in the car graveyard in the sky somewhere. Or, hopefully, recycled. This is an Olds Silhouette minivan from GM's first whack at minivans ... the ones with the long snout. In reviews I've read of these, it said driving one seemed like you were driving them from the back seat! I'm guessing early '90s. It's in incredible condition - the body, the hardware, an original paint color, and it's badged to have a 3800, probably a Series I. No wonder it has been around for so long. Of the GM minivans, I'd give the nod to the Olds Silhouette, followed by the Pontiac Trans Sport, and then the Chevy Venture…

This has been a larger and older GM sort of weekend. Yesterday, I saw a powder blue Olds Toronado with a white top. That meant it was a '75. It was spotless. I couldn't take a photo. I waved at its driver. He waved back. This morning, I saw a mid 1990s' Olds Ninety Eight Regency of the variety @NINETY EIGHT REGENCY has. I saw it coming up on me in the fast lane on the freeway. I saw that it was silver. When it caught up with me, its interior was burgundy. But I already knew this is my favorite color combo for a vehicle. This was another immaculate GM car. For a split second, with its lack of finning at its rear, it almost resembled a small Lincoln Tow…

I went to the Nutmeg Chapter POCI Pontiac-Oakland show on Sunday. There were a lot of nice cars out and competition was pretty tough. So much to my surprise, I took home a first place in my class! Who knew... I've attached some pictures from the show. Most concentrate on cars I was competing with, but there are a few others I found interesting included too. I loved the wagon! He was robbed -- didn't place at all. He tied for 3rd. He kicks my butt often at these shows. My car. I think he took 2nd place (possibly tied for 3rd)

NEW YORK (AP) - "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino reveals in her memoirs that she is functionally illiterate and had to fake her way through some scripted portions the televised talent show, which she won in 2004. "You're illiterate to just about everything. You don't want to misspell," Fantasia told ABC's "20/20.""So that, for me, kept me in a box and I didn't, wouldn't come out." The 21-year-old R&B singer says she's signed record deals and contracts that she didn't read and couldn't understand. But the hardest part, she said, is not being able to read to Zion, her 4-year-old daughter. …

I know we've had a poll like this before, but it's been awhile. Time to update. Let me know what I may have missed. Also, please tell who you chose and why.

We who post here, we're red-blooded CAR fans...we like performance, we like being low to the ground...they're simply more interesting, more fun, and they just do it for us.... In the beginning, SUVs were called 4x4s, and were only made by six companies: Jeep Land Rover Toyota (Land Cruiser has to be one of the greatest inventions) Chevy/GMC Ford Dodge Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Mercedes came in with their entries in the late 70s and early 80s...they all were rugged, real off-roading machines that knew their role, and left all of that trying to be the best peoplemover and citymobile crap to cars, the way mature intended. Then, two ugly things happened: Suzuk…

I love Italian food. Very high on my list. Growing up with Italian parents, I never went without expertly prepared pasta, chicken or veal dishes. However, I never have a craving for Italian food. But I will go into Greek food withdrawals. So, I'd say Greek. The meats and poultry are succulent, the vegetables, rice and potatoes tend to be seasoned without being offensively strong. Not to mention the tzatziki, hummus or baklava. It's also pretty good for you. Look at those 100 year old ladies with orthopedic shoes and black dresses hanging out in Mykonos or Santorini...see? For you Californians and Arizonans, there is the Daphne's chain. For less than $ 10, you c…

We all like talking about food. It's too hard to construct a mutliple-choice poll for this, so I'm just listing the food I like. 1) Italian food - some of it is better than an orgasm 2) Greek food - a lot of Middle Eastern food is equally good - there are some awesome Greek combo platters caution: there is some bad Greek food out there and, if it's lamb, it has to be fresh and not gamy 3) American food - reliable The food I can't stand is of the variety that will make you "keel over" from the smell when you walk into the place that serves it - Ethiopian, Indian and Thai Your favorite food(s)? (What foods don't you like?)

Now that I have a decent car, I've been more attentive to the process of cleaning and waxing. What are some of your favorite brands of wax and protective products that you use? Does anybody do clay bar on their paint? I have heard Turtle Wax Ice is a pretty good cleaning solution that comes close to clay bar as far as shine and removal of contaminants but does it in 1/4 of the time. Since I live in a winter climate, I'm looking for something I can apply this fall that will help protect the paint before the snow starts flying. My paint is in very good condition overall, but the paint of the front bumper is starting to show its age a little.

Some hibernate, some sit on ice floes. It is February, a chilly one this year (in these parts, at least). If you can "bear" it, let's get out there and spot some vehicular modes of transportation... right here!

Kicking this off mid month since I did not see anyone else start a February thread. Saw a rather dirty but new GMC Hummer EV Truck. Was really surprised how tall and big it is. Thought it was the same length as my 2006 Escalade ESV which is 221 inches long and the GMC Hummer EV Truck is 217 inches long, so only a 4 inch difference between the autos. Very cool looking and I love the stance.

Weather getting a bit better...was out and about this morning and saw a grubby, dented salt-encrusted red Tesla Model S coming out of the McDonalds drive thru...funny to see a Tesla driven like any other winter beater. The rear bumper fascia was cracked.

Saw a white Mercedes-Benz Metris minivan in window van form, first I'd seen on the road. Also saw a white w/ blue stripes tall roof Ford Transit panel van, with 'GT-350' stripes on the sides, black wheels. Also saw at the bank a black Rolls Royce Phantom w/ the custom front plate that said 'A$$HOLE'...lol. Also saw an old GM Scenecruiser bus in Red Bull livery..which I later discovered has it's own facebook page.. https://www.facebook.com/Red-Bull-Scenicruiser-113160381322/

Sheez, I would have liked to have a photo upon starting this month's car spotting thread, but I was driving on the freeway a ways behind it. I saw a '95 or '96 Buick Riviera in a candy apple red metallic color which may have been an extra cost color that year. There's nothing really off the charts about such a sighting except that you don't see them that often, it was in excellent condition, and, from the rear, and rear 3/4, views, the strong fender flanks and the almost oval shape of the slightly inset rear fascia and tail lamp assembly make a pretty strong (and good) statement. (I am definitely not a fan of what I call its preying mantis front end.)

Basically right now it lets you show off your car, in the same manner CarDomain or CarSpace would, but in facebook. A LOT of new features are coming, including rating your car and a buy&sell. The ratings will be particularly interesting because you'll be able to see a list of people with the most popular cars in your network, your geographical location, and so on. Suggestions for improvements are welcome. Pretty much anything is possible if you can name it... it can be added. *A lot of Classic cars are on the way for "favorites"* So far we have planned to add the following in the next week or two: > Buy & Sell > Rate my car > Top rated cars …

My friend just crashed his Mazda, and now end up with a G6 rental. He was telling me he has a V6, so I'm suspecting it's a 2007 with the sport package, i.e. 17" wheels. So if I swap my 16s on and take the 17s, will they catch us and make us pay??

This "iffyness" on Zeta is making me want to give up on new cars. My whole life I have watched cars I like get cancelled and replaced by soulless FWD blobs. Then, GM comes-up with Zeta and all is well. Then, Zeta is put on hold. Then on hold again. I'm tired of freakin' waiting! At least old cars can bring a smile to my face. Maybe I'll just disappear into the barn and concentrate on my projects. Call me when the real cars are ready.

Well, I got a major surprise today. My brakes went out on me-during the lunch rush..... Lucky for me I made a turn down a side street to avoid a traffic back up. Everything had been fine all day-but when the wagon hit the first stop sign- I didn't stop-and just missed avoiding a person backing out of their driveway- I just about had a heart attack. After getting it to stop (it had a little stopping power left after that), I limped it to my folks house. (where I was on my way to) I came out and checked it a few minutes later-and there was a small puddle and fluid all over my passenger tire I had it towed away to the local shop...and my guess I either lost the h…

Now that I'm getting close to leaving North America for Europe, I started thinking about all the assembly plants that I have had some sort of connection with that are no longer here. I was thinking about all those jobs that were lost and the people I knew that worked in those plants. The following plants were more special to me than others. Arlington Assembly plant, TX - Where I started my GM career, it's still there. Terrytown Assembly plant, NY - Actually in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Beautiful place to be in the fall with the leaves changing color, the plant was along the Hudson river. Linden Assembly plant, NJ - Always in my mind as the S10 plant, I truely miss the people…

I got a call from the collector who bought my Hawk this morning. Great conversation. He thanked me for being truthful about the car and including everything with it. Then he told me the good news: He has decided that it's a keeper and was preparing it to go into it's own climate-controlled bubble. The best part is that he has given me the right of first refusal should he ever decide to sell it. I feel much better about it all now.

My son Joel has a really cool friend Paul who is 16 and learning how to drive. Paul's dad has a nice older Cadillac (similar to Sixty-Eights bannana boat). Paul was pulling into his parent's attached garage, being coached by his father. His father said "now hit the brakes gently." Instead of hitting the brakes Paul hit the gas by mistake. While people may debate the fuel economy and such of old caddies, one thing is for sure...they are just the cat's ass when it comes to destroying drywall and 2x4 studs. The car lurched forward, through the garage wall and into the living room. About six grand worth of damage to the house and a similar amount to the car. While it …

Ferrari 4000 Carbon Fiber notebook June 2, 2005 In terms of high tech brands, Ferrari and Acer make quite a quinella. With gigabytes of data downloaded wirelessly from the car telemetry each race meeting and analysed more meticulously than Michael Jackson’s private life, high performance computers and Formula 1 racing are almost synonymous. Now the last Ferrari Acer computer really didn’t look the part – it was Ferrari Red but didn’t quite capture the essence of F1. the newly announced Ferrari 4000 notebook computer is a different matter though. Like almost everything, it looks much better because you can see the weave of the carbon fibre from which the casing is con…

Came across this story about Ferrari beating Bugatti and it is very cool to watch. Interesting is that in the quarter mile you do see that the Ferrari is a couple car lengths ahead but as they hit the finish line and keep going the bugatti closes the gap. Makes one wonder who would really win in a mile long race. https://fr.news.yahoo.com/laferrari-demolishes-bugatti-veyron-drag-race-video-135004475.html
