as much as I'd like to see DEJ win the 500 (and all other races this year), part of me wants to see a Toyota win the 50th running of the "Great American Race" simply because of the irony it would be. Well, that an the reaction racing fans would have.

Well, it took quite awhile for all of the insurance stuff to finalize and for them to cut me a check but I got out of the shet rental Yaris and this past Saturday I picked up something. I would have played the guessing game but I'm pretty sure I've already posted here asking about the car so I didn't think that would work too well.. Well, I bought a 2016 Focus Hatch Titanium. I believe it has everything except a sunroof and their active parking assist. I bought it with 12,811 miles on the clock for 16,000 + TTL. Sync3 rocks so far. WORLDS better than Sync that I had in my Escape. It has basically everything I had in my Escape, which is what I wanted. A couple t…

My pics of what I no longer see on the road: 1. Buick Riviera. Yeah, I know I'm the small car fan here at C&G but for some reason I've always lusted after the Riv. Almost bought a silver 65 with dual 4v carbs when I bought the 66 Mustang fastback. Used to be several running around my old home town. I also miss the later 60's design and the sweet 70's boat tail design. Actually, I seldom see the sleek 90's version on the road either. 2. Olds Cutlass Vista Cruiser. When we were talking about the what year thing I thought about how many of these there were running around when I was a kid. Still lust after them, and if I could have GM build me anything from …

Cory, You might remember about 6 months or so ago I sent your sketches to Ed Welburn, well I never heard anything back. Now that I am a GM god :AH-HA_wink:, Ed himself reads and answers my e-mails when I send them now. I discussed your sketches with him in an E-Mail a week or so ago, please see Ed's response below. give me 5 - 10 sketches and send them to my yahoo email at [email protected], I have limited web and email access where I am now, so that's a better email address for me. I will send them directly to Ed Welburn himself, also supply me with your e-mail address too, so I can forward it to Ed so he can give you his thoughts on them directly. Please note, …

Today is my Regal's 16th birthday. This morning, it had 244,073 miles on the odometer (that's almost 400,000 kilometers!) In this period, other than stuff that normally wears out (belts, hoses, brakes, batteries), I've only fixed the following, in this order: - exhaust donut connecting manifold to tailpipe - water pump - alternator - thermostat by-pass - 2 front wheel bearing assemblies (different times) - tie rod ends - 2 sensors: O2 and knock (different times) That's it. I'll have to wax it soon. The 100 degree temps have arrived. I still like it but am not that attached to it. But it has been reliable (so folks, don't knock the W-body too hard).…

HFCS has replaced sugar as the sweetener in many beverages and foods such as breads, cereals, breakfast bars, lunch meats, yogurts, soups and condiments. I was pretty depressed about the Patriots losing in such an ugly manner yesterday, but the ending of the Colts-Steelers game was absolutely insane... Polamalu's reversed interception, Manning sacked, Bettis's fumble (why the hell didn't they kneel?!), Roethlisberger's game-saving tackle, Vanderjagt's missed FG... what a crazy game. Even though I hate the Steelers, I hate the Colts more and took joy in Manning's frustration and anger. Now I want the Steelers to beat Denver and then lose to Seattle.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/...pes_comparison/ It was a pretty fair comparison I think. Both are hella powerful, the GTO is a bit farter to 60 since it's lighter, but the Charger handles better, and is easier to get the power out. Goat is cheaper but the Charger has more standard equipment and performance mods. GTO has a nicer interior design, but the Charger is roomier, more practicle, and has things the Goat doesn't. Charger loooks badass...th GTO doesn't. "The Charger is the obvious choice--the best musclecar for the job. Not only does it look the part--no other V-8-powered American sedan appears as ominous--but it plays the part with an involving drivi…

Ford, GM, Mazda recall cars for safety problems Wed Apr 12, 7:16 PM ET Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F - news), General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - news) and Mazda Motor Corp. (7261.T) are recalling almost 35,000 cars for a range of defects, U.S. safety regulators said on Wednesday. Ford is recalling over 19,000 Mustang Cobras from the 2003 and 2004 model years because the accelerator pedal can stick on the floor carpeting in the car, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. The NHTSA said the accelerator problem could cause crashes when the pedal catches on a cutout area of the floor carpeting during sharp acceleration. Ford will install carpet "shields" to addr…

Yes, it's ugly, but my dad uses to to tie cargo down onto and it makes my mom more comfortable on it. Personally, I'd like to atleast get one that matches the bike. The "Piece of $h!": Love my letter decals? Yeah... it's $h!ty... I know... obvious, huh? The GT80: It's old... Amazingly, it was my dad's when he was a kid. We found it a few years ago and had to buy. Sometime between then, they swapped the frame and the fenders and stuff. The originals are in that box, as you can see. I have …

I had to take the POS in because, in a typical showing of Ford quality, the $h!mobile left me stranded with........a bad radio. The cd player doesn't eject. They had to order a new radio (isn't it the same one they use in like every new Ford you can buy?) so it'll be a few days until I have a cd player again. Minor inconvenience really, the radio still works so I still have music, just not good music.

Why don't you do a project car as opposed to buying something "new" for you vehicle with the greater "mechanical" feel...? I always think of you for some reason when I think of this thing. Not usually into lowered trucks but I like this one for some odd reason.... Of course, you could always roll with something more old skool...wid de rims... Or here is an old Hilux truck I saw in a historical neighborhood in Columbus the other day....

http://www.cbc.ca/cp/Oddities/070403/K040302AU.html ABOARD TRAIN V150, France (AP) - A high-speed French train with a souped-up engine has broken the world speed record for conventional rail trains, hitting 570 kilometres an hour. The black-and-chrome train with three double-decker cars, named the V150, bettered the previous record of 515.3 km/h. However, it fell just short of the ultimate record set by Japan's magnetically levitated train, which reached 581 km/h in 2003. note: That's about 350 mph.

I was just scanning MSN when I saw this piece of BS: Eventually, you get to the Delorenzo article "Hell Freezes over," but first you see a picture that says, "GM: What went wrong. Here's why Toyota became #1 and is likely to stay there." So, apparently GM is now "dead" because they are no longer #1 (for the first quarter, I might add). WTF? This is the most deceiving headline I've seen in quite a while, and to say that GM is now "dead" because they were outsold by Toyota by a relatively small margin in the first quarter in global sales is ridiculous. Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, VW, and every other carmaker besides Toyota must be dead too. And until r…

• We bought our '11 Jeep Liberty in Feb of 2016, with 53K miles. Not a single problem to date, not a fancy vehicle, but everyone here likes driving it fine. Now has 80K. Going to keep it, my one son is it's regular driver. • Wife's 2009 Malibu LT was bought new. Between GM card cash, sale discount (1500), and a Cash for Clunker trade (4600), the $25K sticker came down to the low $17K's. It's been a very good little sedan, a few very minor things plus the normal maintenance. Currently has 127K on it. Other than a few dings and some curb rash on the pass-side alloys, it's in good physical shape. Mechanically it could use front struts. On to this morning... checked…

You always wanted to drive. Every so often I like to remark that this place, for all its turbulence what with the economy, GM's restructuring, and differences in political opinion, is still an excellent discussion board. Here's what a good chunk of e-forums can be like. For what it's worth, the article that people are commenting on is about CPU performance. http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i...p;cp=1#comments Warning, there's some naughty words, and you might find yourself questioning evolution, and/or creationism, and whether or not humanity is doomed for eternity.

Post one of several... On more than one occasion, I was asked by locals if I was Greek. In fact, I am not. One could take that, though, to mean I'd be welcome there, and I'd certainly consider a move to Greece if circumstances would merit so dramatic a life-change. It's an amazing country full of amazing people - direct and quite frank, but friendly and warm even to strangers and foreigners. We left Saint Louis for Atlanta at 10:00 am on September 13th, where we waited for seven hours for our overnight flight to Athens. It was an unpleasant flight - ten-plus hours with an unhappy newborn and a 2-y/o who liked to kick seats immediately behind me - there …

I believe in fires at midnight when the dogs have all been fed. A golden toddy on the mantle a broken gun beneath the bed. Silken mist outside the window. Frogs and newts slip in the dark too much hurry ruins the body. I'll sit easy, fan the spark kindled by the dying embers of another working day. Go upstairs, take off your makeup, fold your clothes neatly away. Me, I'll sit and write this love song as I all too seldom do. Build a little fire this midnight. It's good to be back home with you.

By George Kiriyama NBCBayArea.com updated 35 minutes ago On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population. Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office. "They said we…

I am usually never awake at this hour. I dreamed that I became friends with an inner city kid. Somehow I ended up being asked to drive vehicles for him and his other buddies, from one place to another in the city. It was winter time, there was snow on the ground. He was driving an Escalade, I was riding with him. Throughout the dream, I could feel a growing awareness of what was really happening. He was part of a drug gang and I was an unwitting driver, parking these blingy vehicles and leaving them in rundown, unfamiliar parts of town. We park the Escalade and I ask him something through mind waves (no talk) like "what do you want me to do next?"…

What options does "your" (the one you consider mostly yours) vehicle have that you don't want/need? What would you add if you had the chance to? I'll use the Camaro for this... What I don't want/need on it: I really don't need a power driver's seat. Manual seats are particularly easy to use and easier to uninstall from the car. Another thing is a cigarrette lighter, but the ashtray is fine because that's where I store my cell phone. Some things that would've been sweet: AWD for sure. I've been thinking about it lately and damn would it be nice, especially in this snow. Automatic start just to warm the car up w/out going outside…

I've gotta tell you.....I've driven a few BMW 6-series lately....and that car, IMHO, has the BEST production V8 exhaust burble/note of any car I think I've heard....in fact, I wish my C6 sounded as good. This is the ONLY V8 BMW that sounds this way.....according to BMW, they spent a good amount of time tuning the exhaust note to get it just right. Of note, our X5 4.4i has a similar V8 "detroit-style" burble...but it's not nearly as vocal as the 6-series. Runner up? M-Benz SL55 AMG..... GM runner up? Pontiac Grand Prix GXP 5.3L What do you guys think from the cars you've heard....?

What do you think are the sexiest trucks, SUVs, and crossovers out there on the market today (or coming within the next year)? Only truck I find that's sexy is the '06 Ram SRT-10 (especially in black).. Also, the only SUVs/crossovers I like are the Murano, FX45, and Acadia. These vehicles are awesome, IMO, and the only SUV-type vehicles I like the looks of. (I admit to liking most of the GMX-900s' styling, but they're too big for me)

The world is not for you Tell me what's your point of view Hey there, mister madman watcha know that I don't know Tell me some crazy stories, let me know who runs this show Glassy-eyed and laughing, he turns and walks away Tell me what made you that way Here I am just waiting for a sign All my life I knew that it was mine It's always here, It's always there It's just love and miracles out of nowhere Tell me now dear mother, what's it like to be so old Children grown and leaving, seems the world is growing cold …

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/br...All=y#comments It's not often that Philadelphia police are called to jump-start a stolen auto case. Especially one four decades old. But thanks to their efforts, a Texas man has recovered a treasured convertible stolen in Philadelphia nearly 42 years ago. Bob Russell never gave up hope that his stolen 1967 Austin Healey would be found one day. Russell was a graduate student at Temple University in 1970 when he parked the English roadster at an apartment complex after a date with his future wife. When he went out to the lot the next morning, the Austin was gone. Because he was a cash-strapped student, it was a double whammy. He…

One of the teams I'm cheering to make the playoffs, the Isles-just lost one of their better players (and a fave of Mine) What the hell was Chris Simon thinking???!! Like him or hate him, he is one of the reasons they should make the playoffs this year. I'm glad the other guy is ok though....though it looks like Simon might not be coming back....ever. Why?

* Bet many can identify with this: http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/03/18/daily-dose-wake-up-wed-9/ With 4 open heart surgeries & 1 pacemaker replacement, I’ve a number of roadmaps. Some scars will be refreshed when I go in for another pacemaker replacement next Wednesday, 03/25/2015; unlike last time, hopefully this WILL be a simple outpatient procedure with no overnight hospital stay…! While watching NCAA’s March Madness on Thursday, I made some tweaks to my website & added a page for articles I’ve written: http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/my-articles/ Haven’t decided if I’m going to put all of my road trip pics there somehow or not. A lot of people do f*c*ing idiotic things while driving. Several bother me. At the top of my list is this: 1. DOG OR CAT IN YOUR LAP, BETWEEN YOU AND STEERING WHEEL Good Gawd, if you love your animal, that is the LAST place you would put them. In those classes you can take (at least in CA) to hide moving violations, they tell you this. In an accident, the animal doesn't have a chance and will be flattened. Next ones for me: 2. Reading a book, like a paperback novel 3. Make up application There are others, but these lead my list. What irks you?

I was thinking about this the other day about cars that I miss.. options that should be still in cars, or even styling cues U miss, but manufacturers did away with them. RULES: Format will be One or Two things. As in 1) "A Car" (not an entire brand tho) 2) "A Option" 3) MUST BE REALISTIC.. and be capable of actually making money for the company. No FANTASY U can do either or both.. but no more than 6 Sentences about the car or option and what made it great. This is a "piggy back..." So we can't say the same option, but we can say the same car ####################################################### I'll Start: 1) The Humm…

I have a search set up on Autotrader to send me Avalanche listings. One of the most common eyeroll descriptions I see for Avalanches is "Fuel Sipper" or "best fuel economy" or some variant. While the Avlanche might be decent as far as trucks of that vintage go.... it's not like it's a Volt in the MPG department.... it's not even a Chevy SS in the MPG department.... and putting that in the ad isn't fooling anyone. What doozies do you see in car ads that are wildly inappropriate to the vehicle they are selling?

I will not be doing a major road trip this year, since I'm using that vacation time to attend a few different weekend gatherings/shows/cruises (about which I've posted); I hope to return to a week or 2-week long road trip in 2009. But ... Saturday, August 9, 2008 ... I'll be in the Pittsburgh/Johnstown/Holsopple PA area for a family reunion on Dad's side of the family. Around that reunion, I will take a "mini road trip" through Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and northern Virginia. I have a TENTATIVE/skeletal itinerary ... let me know if you want to meet up anywhere along the way so that'll help me finalize the itinerary in the next couple …

This is kind of a spin-off from a comment in the thread discussing the interest in Hummer by a couple companies from India: What would it take for GM to merge some brands? Take the whole clustering of brands (Buick-Pontiac-GMC for example) to the next level, and have them share a corporate shell and legal entity. Let's call it "GM Specialties" for now. Some thoughts: + Dealerships would have a contract with "GM Specialties", not the specific brands contained within. A Specialties dealership (auto boutique?) could order (or not order) any product from the Specialties' included brands, maybe with some requirements/standards as to how the products are displayed …

http://www.proximityhotel.com/ My GF and her classmate's project for architecture this semester was to coordinate with the owner of this hotel (He owns multiple hotels and fronts a foundation for community improvement) and basically re-design a large part of downtown Greensboro NC. Yesterday, we had her final critique at The Proximity which included him, the other big members of the foundation and several key people in the leadership of the city. Of course, as far as we know, everything was theoretical, but it would provide a very good and complete basis if the foundation wanted to move forward with plans. The foundation funded everything, from trips to Greensboro …

Loopholes on the Death Bed A lawyer was on his deathbed and he called to his wife. She rushed in and said, "What is it, honey?" He told her to run and get the Bible. Being a religious woman, she thought this was a good idea. She ran and got it, prepared to read him his favorite verse or something of the sort. He snatched it from her and began quickly scanning pages, his eyes darting right and left. The wife was curious. "What are you doing, honey?" she asked. "I'm looking for loopholes!" he shouted.

Lucas just got a Mercedees 230 Kompressor (think I've got that right) as a 16th birthday present. New. Wish I was that lucky when I was sixteen.... Chris
