I hope you enjoy this as much as I did, and maybe it will help you take life a little slower and with more meaning. In July 2006, a short 3-minute movie was launched on the Internet called The Dash. Since then, over 40 million people from around the world have watched it, and over 20,000 a day continue to watch it as a result of people passing it along. The movie has been more successful than anyone could have ever imagined. More importantly, however, it has inspired many, many people to reflect on their lives and ask that all important question, 'Are my priorities where they should be?' I leave you with this movie and I hope you share it with those who are close to…

So recently I decided I needed to lose some weight. My genes make it very likely for me to have high blood pressure and high cholesteral, and as I recently hit 215 lbs this spring I noticed I had started to feel like crap. I went to the doctor for a physical and sure enough the high BP had hit and my cholesteral was on the border. At 5'9" I was a relatively healthy 175 about 3 years ago. My metabolism has obviously slowed since high school, I started drinking beer more often, and I just didn't have enough time in my life to make myself healthy meals. I had a part time job that I was working at one or two afternoons a week that I let go a few months ago. With the …

Words cannot possibly describe how f@#kING PISSED I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So about a half an hour ago my girlfriend and I were laying in bed talking getting ready to go to sleep. As we're talking we hear this extremely crashing noise and what sounded to me like a clutch grinding. I quickly look out of the window to see some guy jumping out of a car and start running down the street. We get dressed really quickly and run outside to see the red early 90's Integra in the road with the lights on and the wipers on crashed into the neighbors car. I go back inside and call the cops. At first we thought they had just hit their car but boy were we wrong. Not only di…

As I've mentioned, there's this 96 Nissan Hardbody pickup for sale that I'm seriously considering. It's a regular cab, standard bed with a 2.4L 4cyl and 5spd manual. The is in mostly good condition with a few minor rust bubbles around the rear fenders and a ghetto fabulous front bumper. It appears to be solid to my eyes underneath, as well. It's recently inspected. It's advertised at $1999. Tomorrow morning... well... later this morning considering the time... I'm going to look at it in detial, test drive it, and if all goes well on those fronts, I'm going to haggle with salesmen. I would like to get the price down to around $1500 as I see it now. Before I do all th…

Went to the doctor today, again. Man, this is getting annoying. Some background. Last year, Tammy literally drug me into the doctor's office because I was in real bad shape. Turns out it was a good thing, I had pneumonia, was getting over the flu, and was developing a bad case of sinusitis. Anyway, as I was getting over that, the doctor noticed I was rubbing my hands. Oops. I wound up finally telling a medical professional that I was having shooting pains from my neck down both arms and through my hands and fingers. No way to predict when they would happen. It hurts like hell. Tests, of course followed. No carpel tunnel (thank God), minor arthritus (not a real e…

So I bought an 04 Bonneville for the girlfriend to get around in. Her old car was nearing the end and I got a hell of a deal on this car that was out in Boise. It seemed to be pretty well optioned and I never saw a picture of it, just knew it was in decent shape, had 65K on it, and was white and that was enough for me. So I fly out to Boise to drive it back. When I get there, to my suprise it has hub caps on it. I was over it pretty quickly and figured I would throw a nice set of 17s on it and call it good. Well the girlfriend hates how aftermarket it is going to look with most of the rims I've found for a decent price and wants something stock on it. So I thoug…

So im finishing up my last english class of high school, and we're working on alot of shirt stories, most of them pretty boring. Our latest one is "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. I love it! it has the craziest plot twist, and contrasts a "civilized" small american town with the barbarian nature that embodies every american, and holds a message that we ignore violence and suffering until it personally affects us. ive read it a few times, and everytime i read it i discover more symbolism, and im usually not this much into English stories. Anyone read it? if your interested its not that long. The Lottery

Toyotas. Yes I said it. Something interesting about Toyotas. It's a database of all the paint codes used throughout a model's lifespan. Yeah, it's a nerdy obsession. I wish I could find a website like this for other manufactures. A complaint: Why are all the cars looking riced? Just make 'em look normal. In any case, here's the link: Toyota Reference

As a Buick owner for 28 years and a current 2006 Buick Lucerne owner, it is with nostalgia that I say Good Bye to Buick. I am hopeful that Buick does not go the way of Oldsmobile. However, it is the forgotten stepchild of GM relegated to a small room in the attic. Tomorrow I take a last and longing look at this old friend as I step into the new world of my 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid. I once swore never to darken the steps of the foreign auto market. But as the Buick I once knew slipped silently away into the attic room neglected I reluctantly yet with anticipation look forward to a new day in my hybrid. Farewell Old Friend!

Sooooooo had a root-canal at the dentist yesterday due to a cracked tooth. I hate the dentist. I'd rather get 500 tetanus shots & 500 MRIs than go in for ANYTHING at the dentist. My teeth are wicked sensitive and I have had some horror-movie experiences at the dentist. SERIOUSLY. Blood and all! So anyway I'm a little delusional, maybe that explains the following: I'm considering buying Julie a FWD car, on my own accord. Let me repeat myself: I'm considering buying a FWD car. Scary I know. Last night I had a deusey of a dream. It all came back to me in the shower this morning. I was naked and walking, when I came upon a car dealership. It was made up of 3 lots, each with a small sales office. The cars were all non-descript, of different brands and model years, but it was a new car dealership (seemingly in decline). I entered one of the buildings. No one cared or acknowledged I was naked, and I was not embarrassed at all. It was dark, with a 1970's, dark brown pleather and chrome decor. I looked at racks of brochures, and left. Groups of cars were parked in patterns randomly on the lots, I was just browsing, when I came upon something that piqued m…

For the second time in one week, I've locked my keys in the Cutlass. The third time, overall. And, of course, I was too stubborn to get an extra set made after the first and second times. I'm likely to repeat this and add another tally for the week. The good new is... I've become a master at breaking into it. Once I have the right tool (read: a metal hanger), it doesn't take much. Since I'm probably going to be too stubborn to actually go out and get an extra key made, I ought to just stick a hanger to my frame. I should be golden. *shakes head* I miss power locks.

Perhaps I am wound a little too tight, but my Wife & I will soon be in the market for a midsize sedan, and nothing in GM's lineup appeals to either one of us. A big reason? GM's abandonment of traditional domestic style controls! Wipers belong on the left hand stalk; the headlight switch belongs on the dash, and most of all, I expect a *real* tilt style column in my GM vehicle! Ford seems to get it; GM doesn't. The new Fusion eschewed a Mazda 6 style steering column, for traditional domestic controls. If I want import style controls, I will by an import. Fit and finish and powertrain sophistication, has improved with new GM vehicles. Unfortunately, GM veh…

Some, if not most, of you know I've wanted the following for a while: * a bonafide "winter beater" in the form of a newer car OR (my preference) another '86-'88 MC LS that is in not-so-good shape OR a 1977-1979 Caprice Classic OR a 1989-1990 Caprice 9C1 * a 1987 MC SS Aerocoupe (or even just an SS, for that matter) * my own home with a over-sized garage.... * a 1975 Caprice Classic convertible Slowly, but surely, I've been saving money (kinda hard with more then average medical bills) and, as of now, I have the money for the winter beater (have had that money for over a year now), and almost enough for an SS I have my eye on.... Hey there, so last week I was trying to develop my photoshop skills (specifically my ability to create images with a 3-d metallic finish). To do so, I created a modified Saturn logo as practice. Paolino asked me to try my hand at Buick, and after a week of delay (Hey, I had 2 papers and an exam!) I actually finished one this morning. In all honesty, I don't think i like it. It's a little too different, and doesn't exude the classy yet modern that Buick is trying to exude. I'll probably try again, but until then I present to you: "Jon's Official-Unofficial-2008 Buick Logo"! *Cue Generic Pseudo-Electronica AutoShow Debut Music*

Here's some reasons I hate 2008: 1. Cellphones and the incessant chattering of the masses, anywhere, anyplace 2. Overly refined cars and trucks. To the point of numbness. No sense of being connected to the road and surrounding environment. 3. The Green agenda. Sick to death of seeing it in every newscast, in every magazine and newspaper. The self righteous do-gooders have hijacked any remaining joy in life. It's the new religion. Cultish almost. 4. Vulgar and low class celebrities. 5. Buicks are no longer Buicks. I could go on and on.....tell us some reasons you hate 2008.

Okay, I know this is a loaded question, because everybody will have "their" own favorite brand to recommend. A close friend of mine wanted me to go with him 42" LCD TV shopping this afternoon, mainly because he can't fit what he wants to buy in his '05 Grand Prix and needed me for my Envoy (friends with trucks ). I really didn't mind though, because I haven't spent much time with Jeff lately. Anyway, a we started off at Best Buy to see what deals they had. He looked at LG, Samsung, Toshiba, and Sony there. Next was Cicuit City, with pretty much the same offering, but adding in Westinghouse. Last stop was at BJ's Wholesale Club, where he looked at a Philips, Ole…

"TBINS!" ... a co-worker responded with that acronym Friday afternoon when we were talking about how good it was to be TGIF (Thank God It's Friday). We all kinda looked at him funny, he shrugged and responded, "Too Bad It's Not Saturday". He explained that he'd rather it be Saturday so he didn't have to be at work. I don't know, though. While that sounds good initially, I still prefer TGIF ... because you have the ENTIRE weekend ahead of you. If it is already Saturday, part (if not half) of the weekend is already done.... Pretty solid song, except the production makes it sound kind of flat. They need some bigger sounding drums like they used to use. The chorus sounds a little too "modern rock," but the rest of it is great. Anyone notice the "Los Angeles 3:27 AM" bit at the beginning of the video. I think that was taken from the first scene of Terminator 1 when the guy is sitting in the garbage truck as the Terminator timewarps in.

Auction noted some paint flaws, hope it look ok when they get it up to the dealer. I'm usually quit picky on my vehicles but when the wife drives over 30k miles a year it's hard to get too picky. It's gonna see a lot of the enviroment each day of her commute! Toyota Camry 8. Hyundai Accent 9. Pontiac G6 10. Ford Focus NON-CAR 1. Ford F150 2. Dodge Caravan 3. Dodge Ram 4. Chevrolet Silverado 5. GMC Sierra 6. Ford Escape 7. Honda CR-V 8. Ford Ranger 9. Chevrolet Uplander 10. Pontiac Montana SV6

I won't take a "major" road trip this year because I want to attend several different events, some of which I missed last year. Thus, 2008 trips will be short'n'sweet. If you're interested in meeting up along the way, please tell me! My 2008 plans include (more details later)... SUNDAY, APRIL 27 ... I hate to do this sort of thread, but if anyone could find me a free download of Adobe Photoshop CS, I would very much appreciate it. Trying to do sketch renderings using my old, creaky Photoshop Elements is a PITA! I have Azureus, so I can do a torrent download, however it seems as if it does not want to download files. Thank you guys!

My granddad has had stage 4 cancer in his lungs and lymph nodes. This morning, hospice was to come and begin taking care of him. His wife told him that hospice was on their way. He immediately grabbed his 357 Magnum, went into the backyard behind his shed and shot himself in the head. He died instantly. He was 89. I will be away for a few days taking care of business. I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on.

Those that have been around a while will remember everything I did to try and kill Roach I, non of which actually killed the cars (Roach I had over 390,000 miles on original engine & trans). I want Roach III to go away and the only way it will is if it has a major mechanical breakdown. Does anybody have ideas on what I can do to cause this to happen without my wife knowing? For the record, I've tried to the following to one or all three Roaches and NONE of them even hesitated to keep running. 1. Jumped off the ground and landed extra hard on frame 2. Put in reverse at full highway speed 3. Used one gallon of water for 10 gallons of gas 4. Pushed down high…

I've been waiting for this. We are very close to the family across the street, including their children. Their oldest boy is going to prom. His parents recently seperated and things are tough over there and money is tight. His car doesn't work and he and his friends haven't been able to come up with enough money for a limo. I knew he was working up the balls to ask me if he could borrow my brand new Z. Well, he finally did. I feel bad for him, and I never even got to go to prom and nobody in his family really has a cool car. But, never mind insurance woes, I just can't do it, plus if his parents knew he had asked they would freak out. I plan to either let my son use my Z …

My friend is looking to replace his '99 Monte Carlo with something newer since he is graduated and has a full-time job. He mentioned that he's looking for something with four doors, compact to midsize, 2-3 years old (or new if he can afford it), and fairly fuel efficient. He said he has looked at the Focus, Sentra, Mazda 3, and some others. I mentioned the Fusion, Malibu, G6, Cobalt, Astra, and Aura. He's never really liked Dodge so I didn't mention the Caliber or Avenger. He said he's not interested in Toyota or Honda offerings...he doesn't like the look of the new Toyotas and same with the Honda Civic. I think Impala, Five Hundred/Taurus, etc. are bigger than what…

Hi Kids, I'm trying to hone in my photoshop skills with various different effects. I've been running across a bunch of various logos with unique special effects (like gloss, textures, etc) and essentially recreating/modifying them. I decided I wanted to try my hand at creating a metallic look (like those used on Automotive badges) and two hours later, I finished my modified version of the Saturn logo (I decided I wanted to see what it would look like as a circle). There are a few physical design errors (like the angle of the "rings"), but what I need to see is if it looks metallic to someone who hasn't been working on it. Thanks a bunch! -JC :-)

Sometimes I don't feel right talking general automotive discussion in The Lounge. Does it go in the kinda general part of The Other Guys? Is the general car discussion intended to be here? Or is it likely we should start a new sub-forum for general car discussion (topics that aren't specific to one brand or otherwise don't fit other forums, but don't fit the tone of the Lounge)? To me The Lounge seems more for social topics than anything automotive. Mods, Admins, other regular posters, what say you?

So I was playing basketball back in 2003, went up to the hoop, got hit, came down on my hand with my arm outstretched. Ouch. Urgent care doc diagnosed a minor rotator cuff tear, told me to rest it and take enough ibuprofin to keep me from feeling my thoughts. Didn't help, my doc diagnosed the same thing. Finally, after having some problems with it the last few weeks, I had it looked at again. Torn labrum (not torn labia as I inadvertently told my boss). Surgery is an option, dealing with it is also an option. Didn't even get any drugs. Stupid doctors.

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/10/la-time...ear-i/#comments NBC is inching closer to finalizing the cast for the American version of the hit BBC series Top Gear, but it looks more and more like Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld and Tim Allen won't be part of the program. Reportedly to be called just "Gear", the show is anticipated to include four presenters instead of the BBC's three – although one could be assuming the role of The Stig as the show's test driver. Adam Carolla announced on his radio show that he'd be taking part in the program. Formula D driftmaster Tanner Faust is also tipped to be on the show (possibly in the aforementioned test driver role). However Dan Neil,…

one shortcoming ive always disliked about the Nova is the lack of a third pedal.... i REALLY would love to row my own gears, ive been considering a Manual conversion. Ive considered 4 and 5 speeds, but i think go Big or go Home... T56 all the way! Right now i got a TH350, for those who dont know trannys, its a 3 speed auto, not the greatest for gas mileage, but its decently strong but mine is on its way out. its starting to slip pretty bad in first, so here are my options. If i stick with an Auto, im not keeping a 3 speed. im looking at a 200 4-R out of a G Body for the Overdrive, as its a very simple swap. I would have it built to handle alot more power then im putttin…

clicky Never thought I'd entertain reentering the world of truck ownership again (much less go through with it), but this truck really does something for me. The color helps a lot, and the short, squat look of the regular cab shortbed means it shouldn't be too much of a bear to live with. With the 4.8L it should get decent mileage.

Due to the climate of political correctness now pervading America , Kentuckians,Tennesseans, and West Virginians will no longer be referred to as 'HILLBILLIES.' You must now refer to us as APPALACHIAN-AMERICANS. And furthermore . HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT WOMEN AND BE POLITICALLY CORRECT: 1. She is not a 'BABE' or a 'CHICK' - She is a 'BREASTED AMERICAN.' 2. Since Im in full car search mode, I found this pretty amusing. An Ontario (Canada) man is running a contest to win his car. Basically, he wants a $50 dollar checque, and a written entry not to exceed 100 words on the theme of “I/We want to win this Saab because..”. After 100 entries, a winner will be picked, and get the car. Easy $5000 bucks for the guy, possibly a $50 dollar SAAB for you. http://www.bmts.com/~warren/ http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-c...QQAdIdZ45525269 Crazy, eh?

Didn't want to steal GMPartsGirl's thread so I figured I would start a new thread to discuss this. My better half wants me to get a motorcycle to drive back and forth to work on decent days. Now, understand that I have never ridden a motorcycle in my life and am now 40. Tammy's reasoning is that it will save on gas money. This is true but it would take a while to save enough to pay off the bike in the first place. I would be looking at a used motorcycle, one without too much power, since I am a novice. My brother (who does ride) suggests that I limit it to about 500cc and buy something that I wouldn't be too upset if I laid it down. I have seen a couple that would…

Well, The company I was working for went belly-up.......so I've been back on the job market. Ironically, one of my closest friends (who has owned his own dealerships before, and ran a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz store here in Orange County) has moved recently to Las Vegas and is running a Cadillac dealership there.....and he wants me to come work for him and build and run his internet sales department! This could be a great opportunity, I'd be working for a Caddy store, with one of my closest friends (whom I've worked for before at Irvine BMW....so we know we work really well together) and it would be a fun career change. What do you guys think? I'd keep my condo her…

Please vote on your choice, and then post your rational. So far we have test-driven both vehicles, and the Edge is leading in her eyes. I'm trying to wait it out at least until the Memorial Day Sales begin - though I'm sure the 4th of July Sale will probably be better The better deal will most likely win, but who knows??? Thanks
