http://www.10tv.com/live/foundation/slideshow.jsp?file=/local/stories/2010/12/21/slideshow_crash.htmlℑ=10&adsec=local&tot=16&sid=102 So I got to sit in as a juror on a vehicular homicide trial today...we found a very seemingly decent and sweet teenage girl guilty on two counts, for loosing control of her Ford Escape on Route 23 just before Christmas. The driver of the Olds, Marc, was going with his wife to plan the funeral of his three grandchildren, when he was killed along with his wife Misty. A VERY emotional court room...kind of sad really. Oddly enough...the driver of the ford, (Nisa Kolovich) had just pulled out of the Taco bell drive through. A y…

Salesman: Welcome to 21st Century Chevrolet, can I help you? Me: I'm looking for something interesting and a bit different. Salesman: OK, What other new cars have you bought in the past. Me: An El Camino SS, a Firehawk, and a GTO - I like cars that stand out in a crowd. Salesman: How about moving up to a Corvette? Me: That's not in the budget. Salesman: In that case Camaro is the car for you! Me: I don't know, I'm not much of a Camaro guy. Got anything else? Salesman: I could put you on the waiting list for the new SS. Me: SS? SS, what? Salesman: Just SS, that's the name. Me: I see. Got a brochure? Salesman: I can let you look at my copy, but we don't have an…

Well, I'd been thinking of it for a while, so today I went to Target (french pronunciation) and bought myself a breadmaker. It seemed simple enough, I thought. Then I unpacked it. The instruction manual is like an inch thick. What have I gotten myself in to? Does anyone else have a breadmaker? If so, how's it been to own?

Buicks have tinted windows and are all chromed/golded out. Chevy's are cool and fast. Cadillacs are a rare site. Pontiac's are a rare site. Coupes are everywhere. The Infiniti G35 is everywhere. BMW's are everywhere. Arizona is always hot. Old people drive fast. Everyone drives above the speed limit. Almost every car has tinted windows and nice rims. Mercedes's engines feel very refined. There is alot of traffic. There is no grass. There are alot of hot mexicans/latino boys/girls ^_^ Arizona is very clean. Arizona is a lot like California in that everyone looks the part. This morning it really hit me like a ton of bricks. This year has been all about panic and overreaction. From the obvious confusion of all of the federal legislators to the G3, there has been a strong tendancy to rush headlong into disaster mode. Yes, things are bad and will get worse, but I can't help thinking that no one is thinking anything through before reacting. Maybe it is just that I have had the experience of living through the late '70's, but I see the degree of panic exhibited across our society as near-hysterical. I don't mean to diminish the severity of things, but I do worry that we are so afraid now that we are flailing about and taking actions we wil…

I've had several jerk bosses over the years. One would think that a boss with a very different approach MIGHT be a good thing. Not so in my experience. I do much better with the "in your face, tell-it-like-it-is" bosses. That way, you blow up and get it over with. My jerk boss is a flatliner who, not surprisingly, is passive aggressive. He and I have had our problems. But THIS STORY is NOT about me. I have this annoying, geeky but well-intentioned co-worker that is nearing retirement. He put his vacation days request down on the calendar. It is understood that if no one says anything to you and the schedule makes it onto a spreasheet, you've got the vacation da…

I have (my company has) this one client who is turning out to be a real ass hole. (I wrote about this once before). Unfortunately, I service his current project. I have never had a client I didn't like before (well, actually there was one). I figured it out. This guy, an exec "of sorts" at a construction company, thinks architects are necessary evils. (I'd like to see him get the degree and then the license). He is obviously some ex-jock who got into construction management - he may have a college education in construction, but, regardless, he is a little too classless. Since he probably lacks the technical skills, he has to use his over-the-top aggressiveness to g…

Just got back from a relocation research trip to Atlanta and Florida (no, not Miami). I lived in Atlanta for 2 years, slightly after college. As a product of LA, I was surprised to find that I loved it. It has a special place in my heart because, fairly soon after college, I was able to buy my first house there because of the huge price differences from Cali....that I drive by it every time I go to the ATL. Atlanta is NOT the South. Georgia and Atlanta almost don't belong in the same sentence. Atlanta is one of this country's great metropolitan areas and probably the "engine" for that quadrant of the country. I'm considering going back, so help me out. Pluses: - …

My father's looking for a new car and is choosing between the 320i xDrive, A4 Quattro, and ATS4. All three have a turbo 2.0 L i4 and AWD. Weeeel, today was the first "major" snowstorm of the year and I went alone to church this morning, so I was driving my G5. You may recall when I purchased it in May. When I was going through the buying process I was also looking at another Impala, the G6 and the GP. Fact is I wanted to go small because it was ultimately just going to end up my brother's car. When I was first looking at said car the window sticker, the build sheet, and a GM vehicle history printout I was supplied with all showed the car was equipped with the Enhanced Traction System, which has two prerequisites. In order to have ETS the car must have ABS and the 4SP Auto transmission. The reason f…

So, who's headed out to Hershey, PA this week for the annual AACA Fall Meet? The GM Futurliner will be there again - second time now (October '07 was its first visit to the show), and you are allowed to climb the stairs and sit int he driver's cockpit. This is a milestone year for me - my dad took me 20 years ago (1989) as a young and naive 14 year old first-timer, and I've been hooked ever since. And to celebrate this milestone I am taking my 4 year old son Justin with me this year - my 20th will be his 1st, and hopefully we can make this a father-son tradition for many, many years to come. I can't wait to take him into the Futurliner, and we've been looking at my 1…

By Buck Wolf Men of the world, rejoice! The average length of an erect penis is shorter than you probably think. A study by Lifestyles Condom Co. shows that the average length of a male sex organ is 5.877 inches — which might comfort men who previously thought they were less than average. "The Kinsey Sex Report and other penis size surveys have indicated that the length of the penis is 6.2 to 6.4 inches," says Simon Joseph, a spokesman for Lifestyles. "Our results show that about three-quarters of men fall under the average quoted by Kinsey." "A half-inch or less might not have anything to do with how you perform sexually, but it might make a difference in how you fee…

CARFAX has been hunting down & suing forums and individuals that allow this kind of misuse of their services. Posting a thread like inquiring about someone using their CARFAX for you, especially if someone then looks up the info & posts it back, puts Cheers & Gears at risk for lawsuit. It is for this reason that we request that members do not post such threads. CARFAX may seem like a ripoff for looking up one VIN, however a lawsuit would be far more expensive in the long run. Thank you for understanding. -C&G Staff

I got a summer internship in Des Moines, but the place I'm staying only has dial-up internet, so I doubt I will be using the internet much if at all this summer. It's going to be an adjustment because I usually check C&G every night. So if I go up missing here for a while, that's where I am...without the internet. About the only chance I'll get to go online is when I go home or if I drive up to ISU to visit friends up there who have it. So as my buddy would say, "Welp, schee ya!"...but I'll be back in full force in August! Hopefully I don't miss out on some good spies of the Silverado and Sierra.

I grew up in this kaleidoscopic multi-ethnic city, so my friend's parents, people in high school/college and neighbors provided fuel for the fire. Here's my list: Cuban - this is Ricky Ricardo talk, this is NOT a Mexican accent. I love it. It's my favorite. Iranian-Middle Eastern - perfected from LA experiences - make damn sure you leave out articles in front of nouns whenever possible. I once asked this Middle Eastern guy at a party where he was from. His response: "I leev een Bay Area." I had meant which country he came from, but that's ok. I can't drive through Concord on 680 without muttering that to myself. Southern - it's great and it can be so affected. …

I was just scanning MSN when I saw this piece of BS: Eventually, you get to the Delorenzo article "Hell Freezes over," but first you see a picture that says, "GM: What went wrong. Here's why Toyota became #1 and is likely to stay there." So, apparently GM is now "dead" because they are no longer #1 (for the first quarter, I might add). WTF? This is the most deceiving headline I've seen in quite a while, and to say that GM is now "dead" because they were outsold by Toyota by a relatively small margin in the first quarter in global sales is ridiculous. Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, VW, and every other carmaker besides Toyota must be dead too. And until r…

ACURA UNVEILS NEW RDX RALLY EDITION "Consumption is the key," says Colliver December 12, 2006 -- TORRANCE, Calif. -- Acura takes center stage again by unveiling a prototype of the RDX Rally, a high-consumption variant of its RDX small crossover. "The RDX Rally is Acura's most serious attempt at racing yet," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "With the introduction of this revolutionary new rally vehicle, we not only borrow from the legendary racing heritage of the NSX but completely ignore it by going offroad with a crossover SUV." Similar to the RDX introduced several months ago and currently on sale, the RDX Rally brings offroad features to the …

Considering that GM has been bashed for all too long. I have my own issues with a Honda (Acura) product. Well, I have a 2005 Acura RSX with 10,000 KMs on it (6,000 mi). I have been having annoying problems since day 1. After my first highway trip in the thing I started to get a strange noise out of the front end while turning the wheel. Well, I brought the car in and they told me it was a strut mount. So a few weeks later when the part came in, it was replaced. The noise disappeared for a week. So, I go back again, and they tell me it is the strut. So I wait 6 weeks for the part to come in. They replace that. Guess what, the noise went away, until my trip to Banff. Now I…

Last night I went out with our boy in his 2007 acura tl (little over 5500 miles). While in the car I was struck by how many things just don’t fit right, how it squeaks over bumps, and how it has issues. 1. When accelerating it makes a grinding sound. Something he is taking it in for. 2. The right rear quarter panel on the outside does not lineup with the bumper. Bad enough that he is going to make the dealer fix it. He has seen multiple other tls with the same problem so he is not sure they can line it up. 3. The dash is lumpy on the passenger’s side. 4. The upper part of center console is wavy where it meets the dash. It looks like it’s been left out in the su…

I went to see the movie Click this weekend. It was a very good movie but it wasn't too much of a comedy. This was the most serious part I have seen Adam Sandler play in a movie. The first bit is funny but then the movie starts to get really serious. It actually makes you realize life better. It gives a good message and Christopher Walken plays a good part as well. I would say this is a must see movie. The Cadillac Sixteen concept even makes an appearance in the movie. Lucky Adam Sandler. He got to drive it, lol.

* "Kid" movies/shows that have adult themes (or vice versa) ... GO! Kermit & Rowlf singing about women ... "I Hope That Something Better Comes Along": [My favorite song from that 1979 Muppet Movie is one of the related videos on the right-hand-side list ... Kermit & Fozzie singing "Movin' Right Along".] Scenes from the original CARS movie ... "Real Gone": Golden Girls ... choose just about ANY scene from that TV show. Ok so I was hoping to get some feedback from my professor who has yet to email me back...so I thought I'd ask you guys for your professional opnions. This is the text that will go on six prints ads for the Redeemer project. There's two separate campaigns with three 11"x17" ads each. One is aimed at enthusiasts and the other is aimed towards artists (since the judges are from the art department I figured it would be good to appeal on their level). Tell me what you guys think...if it pushes the idea of the ad successfully or not, if it's too much or too little text, if the wording is good and so on. This is the final stretch for the project...I need to have these done an…

One of my coworkers is buying a new car to replace his currently broken manual '03 Saab 9-3 that has 200,000 km. The clutch is not working. The car is currently sitting at a shop, not being worked on. The mechanic looked at it, and nothing obvious is wrong with it without going into major labour charges (opening clutch/transmission). The Subaru dealer that he's buying the new car from is not offering a trade, even without knowing that the clutch is dead. The mechanic at the shop wants the car for free, because he's inspected it, and it's been sitting on his lot for two weeks now. That strikes me as a bit of a cash grab. However, I'm wondering if it's going to be worth it …

Okay experts, I need some advice for a senior student who is about to get their driver's license and came to me for advice on purchasing a used car. They are looking at a local small-time (very small I should say, they have 10 cars in their inventory) used-car dealership's inventory of two used Saturn vehicles: 1998 SL2 Sedan: Info: 4-cyl, auto, ps, pb, air, 120,435 miles, VIN WZ258740 - $2,699 1995 SL2 Sedan: Info: 4-cyl, auto, ps, pb, air, 96,205 miles, VIN SZ354921 - $2,699 Which of the two cars would you advise them to seriously look into purchasing? Ok, so to make a long story short, I have a friend who works for his dad who runs a lumber mill. They need a forklift (for some reason beyond my comprehension) and my friend mentioned something to me about it. We then got into a very long, intense conversation about playing chicken on heavy machinery. Anyways, I came across this warning sticker on Crown's website. Avoid being crushed, good advice even when you're not talking about a forklift.

Recently, I've had a guy inquire about my front fender. He's all the way over in Washington state. Talks of shipping have been going on and I'm not entirely sure how to do this for a reasonable price. The length, width, and height are very close to putting it over UPS/FedEx's limit for a large package, which adds a $45 upcharge to an already high price due to distance. I'm not entirely sure I can find a box that will be under the said limit and still be able to fit the fender. Weight-wise, it's just under 10 lbs. Is there any way I can ship this without getting him raped on fees and not likely to go through with the purchase?

I mentioned in another post that while online 'window shopping' for newer-but-gently-used GMC Sierra pickup trucks the other day, I ran across a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Z71/4WD Crew Cab with a tad under 20k miles and appears to be in pristine condition for under $22k (GM Certified Pricing). A few e-mail exchanges between the Internet Sales Manager and I and now I'm planning to see & test-drive the truck in person on Friday (12/26). If they can get me out of my GMAC SmartLease (AURA XE) without any penalities, I may just bite. But before I do, what particulars should I be looking for? The truck was originally sold by this dealership and was maintenanced by them to…

Okay, doesn't look like going with a new small GM car lease will put the wife and I where we want to be financially (damn insurance premiums in NJ). We can continue to keep the '04 Malibu and find a way to afford the three NEW car payments + insurance costs... or we can get rid of the Malibu and find a decent used car for under $7k to hold us for a few years (not getting rid of the SKY, that's for darn sure ). So cruising local dealer's online inventories and autoshopper.com, I've found some interesting cars: 1994 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi - 115k, loaded, $3995 1999 Buick Century Custom - 65K, $6995 1998 Buick LeSabre - 60K, $5888 So what do you think of these cars?…

I left my job about 2 weeks ago. I wanted to finish this night time graduate degree this May (2 months from today, more or less), so I overloaded on credits to wrap it up. I worked through the 1st month of the semester, so now I am playing catch up. One chick at work e-mails me quite frequently since I was the project manager on a large project and she worked for me. She just told me that the guy in the outside window office across from her is in the cardiac unit of the hospital. He is only in his late 50s and is health is poor. He buried his wife within the last 5 years and he has not done well since. Compared to most a-hole architects, this is one of the nicest…

Okay, by now you've seen that I'm going to sell the SKY soon and it's apparent that I am also trying to get rid of the AURA too. Not that there's anything wrong with either car (how I'd love to kkeep them both), but the wife informed me recently that we are living way beyond our means. After making as many changes as possible to help save where we could, it still boils down that the SKY needs to be sold to pay off other debt, and triming our remaining car payments down would really help too. She said for the Envoy to go, but I told her that the lease has 11 months remaining and I really like the Envoy. So that leads to the AURA having to go, which I'm working on with …

PHOENIX – Arizona's governor vows the state's tough new law targeting illegal immigration will be implemented with no tolerance for racial profiling, but at least two advocacy groups were preparing legal challenges and Mexico has warned that the law could affect cross-border relations. Republican Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill that supporters said would take handcuffs off police in dealing with illegal immigration in Arizona, the nation's busiest gateway for human and drug smuggling from Mexico and home to an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants. The law requires police to question people about their immigration status — including asking for identificat…

Hey there, so last week I was trying to develop my photoshop skills (specifically my ability to create images with a 3-d metallic finish). To do so, I created a modified Saturn logo as practice. Paolino asked me to try my hand at Buick, and after a week of delay (Hey, I had 2 papers and an exam!) I actually finished one this morning. In all honesty, I don't think i like it. It's a little too different, and doesn't exude the classy yet modern that Buick is trying to exude. I'll probably try again, but until then I present to you: "Jon's Official-Unofficial-2008 Buick Logo"! *Cue Generic Pseudo-Electronica AutoShow Debut Music*

You know those surveys that maufacturers send you after you buy a car, and every time the dealer will pull out this card and tell you for a certain question about the dealership, they ask you to answer to be "Completely Satisfied" and claims it's very important, what exactly does that do to a dealership if you don't answer the "Completely Satisfied"? Just out of my curiosity.

I have finally bought myself a decent laptop. After advertising $500 off throughout this holiday season (and receiving some holiday cash), I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Lenovo Y400. For $750, I got a 3rd gen Intel Core i7, 8GB of ram, 1TB of hard drive, and a NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics card. It also has a few luxuries I was looking for such as a backlit keyboard, decent speakers (JBL... though, I've never been impressed with any laptop's built in sound, so we'll see), and a metal cover. Here's to hoping it meets all my needs and wants once it arrives. I can't imagine it wouldn't, besides the twisted functionality of Windows 8, anyways. If you consider that I'…

Did you ever frequent a business not only because you like the service, or the food, etc., but because you have a little "thing" going with someone who works there? This evening before heading home, I stopped by a college hangout/pizza joint that I used to go to every few weeks, but hadn't been in about 4 months. Whenever I went in, I used to look for the pizza chef back at the brick oven (not a counter person). He always gave me a special smile and said hello, and I did likewise. Nothing more ever came of it. He's a tall, skinny Italian guy, and there's something intense about him. Anyway, since I hadn't been there in so long, I kind of forgot about him, until toni…

Not important part (background): So I took this class this semester called Conceptual Ideation. Basically it's all about how to come up with good original ideas for art (which I could use the help in). For our first project, the teacher asked us to do a "redux" of something we failed at in the past. I chose to revisit the Aveo redesign I submitted for a C&G sketch competition a few years ago, which was undeniably very, very bad. My aim is to design a subcompact car that is typically practical and economical, but looks like it can beat every other subcompact to a pulp. The teacher was encouraging me to make something as wild and futuristic as I could imagine, b…

Contrary to the firm-held belief from the New=powned! Club that 'everything is getting better because we've been told so'.... the National Association of Home Builders has released another survey showing the life expectancy of major home appliances. The last time this survey was compiled was 1993. As competition and the cost of doing business continually creeps upwards with no end in sight, undoubtedly all avenues of 'bringing home the bacon' are being discussed, including that old bugaboo; planned obsolescence. We finally got our first real snow of the year, a whopping 4 inches. But since this is Missouri, it might as well be eleven feet, these people are absolute morons on the road. Saw a guy in a Silverado do a complete 360 upon exiting a gas station. Did I mention its only snow? Dry snow at that? I ran up the street in Tiny and didn't have a problem, even with the huge wall of snow the city kindly left at the bottom of the driveway. Now I think we're going to take the old, 9.5' kayak out and use it as a sled.

As Fall starts to take its effect and the mornings get cooler, the days get shorter, and the leaves begin to slowly change color, it's that time. What time, you ask? Well, it's when having a nice hot cup of cappuccino in the morning really helps take in the cooler temperatures. When sitting on the porch in the evening now requires more than just pants and a long sleeve shirt. When you enjoy the mid day as much as you can before its too short to notice. When you start to make sure to keep freshly charged batteries in your camera in case you across a beautiful shot. When... you no longer have to deal with Summer's heat and humidity. It's just that time again. Time to enjoy …

We did another fall foliage drive today, out to Breckenridge going the back way and then over to Vail and then back to Denver with a side trip up to Berthoud Pass.. great weather and scenery, and saw some interesting cars along the way..it was a nice, relaxing 250 mile drive. In a fenced-in lot by a garage in Englewood, we saw a couple of sad '59 GMs--a pale green Pontiac wagon that had hit something hard on the left front, and a black flat-top Olds 4dr..both were rusty and looked like they had been there a long time.. At a gas station outside Conifer, saw a white '56 Packard 4dr. Saw a nice red '67 Camaro SS in Fairplay...saw a tired primered gray '67 Cougar in Emp…
