I've gotta admit, this is one of the best reviews I've read in a long time, simply in terms of "Tell-it-like-it-is" honesty. I found myself agreeing with pretty much everything in here: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...photopanel..2.*

Edmunds Evaluation: 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited If you're willing to trade refinement and power for agility on the trail and a convertible top, the Unlimited may be worth the dough. After nearly a full day behind the wheel we're convinced of two things: The Jeep Wrangler will remain a niche player, and we'll never rely on a photographer to make our travel plans ever again. Only one transmission away from a success If you ever had any doubt that it's better to be the younger sibling, check out the 2007 Jeep Patriot. The boxy 2007 Patriot compact SUV is the third vehicle the Chrysler Group has spun off its new small-car platform. First there was the Dodge Caliber — the odd-looking hunchback hatchback with a cheap interior and lackluster performance. Then there was the Jeep Compass — a vehicle so utterly wrong-headed that, in the future, a Ph.D. candidate in marketing will write a thesis about it. Fortunately the 2007 Jeep Patriot is the best of this otherwise dysfunctional family. Rendezvous syndrome Perhaps it's the Rendezvous synd…

TCC: Spy Shots: 2007 Chrysler Sebring Man, Chrysler is really bad at keeping this hidden. I think this is the fourth set of spy shots on this car. There's a great, clear picture of what the interior looks like. It's kind of a mix of art-deco and Rubbermaid.

Chrysler Imperial Gets Royal Flush From CAW Plant By Eric Mayne Link to Full Article @ WardsAuto.com, Mar 2, 2007 9:20 AM Workers at Chrysler Group’s assembly plant in Brampton, ON, Canada, have thrown a monkey wrench into the embattled auto maker’s long-term product plans. Brampton workers rejected a company proposal that asked them to forfeit C$134 ($115) per week in return for the contract to build a vehicle, dubbed ‘Product X’ for purposes of the vote. However, Ward’s learns the vehicle is the contentious Chrysler Imperial sedan, and production is targeted for 2010. The wages in question represent extra pay negotiated by the Canadian Auto Workers union as compe…

Fiat Chrysler will abandon its 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty in the United States for the 2016 model year in favor of a 5-year/60,000-mile guarantee. The move follows a similar change in March by General Motors, which reduced the 5-year powertrain warranties on its Chevrolet and GMC vehicles from 100,000 to 60,000 miles. “Following changes already made by competitors, FCA US is adjusting powertrain warranty coverage for 2016 model year vehicles to be more consistent with industry practices,” FCA said in a statement to Automotive News. “For 2016MY, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram Truck vehicles with gasoline engines will be covered by a 5-year/60,000 mile powertr…

http://www.autoblog.com/2015/12/27/fiat-chrysler-buy-emissions-credits/ The world of carbon emissions uses some unusual units of measure. Take, for example, 8.2 million megagrams. Who needs to know how much that is? Someone at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, that's who.FCA had to buy that many greenhouse-gas emissions credits from greener automakers, Reuters says, citing a report from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Because its vehicles' collective fuel economy continues to trail the industry average, FCA purchased the emissions credits at of the end of 2014 in order to meet US emissions regulations. About two-thirds of those credits were acquired fromToyota, w…

By TOM KRISHER and KIMBERLY S. JOHNSON, AP Auto Writers Tom Krisher And Kimberly S. Johnson, Ap Auto Writers – 23 mins ago DETROIT – Italy's Fiat is the new owner of most of Chrysler's assets, closing a deal Wednesday that saves the troubled U.S. automaker from liquidation and places a new company in the hands of Fiat's CEO. The deal creates a leaner company known as Chrysler Group LLC, which is not in bankruptcy protection and is free of billions in debt, 789 underperforming dealerships and burdensome labor costs that hobbled the old Chrysler LLC. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne immediately was named CEO of the new company, which said in a statement that it would soon…

In a clear message to U.S. and Canadian unions, Sergio Marchionne told Wednesday's Globe and Mail newspaper a deal on the partnership had only a 50-50 chance of succeeding because of lack of progress in talks with union leaders. But not-too-distant memory reminds us of the Le Baron and even of another ill-fated Italian tie-up and its Maserati-branded spawn. So Fiat's poor scores in the most recent JD Power survey in the United Kingdom gives cause to wonder if the Fiat-Chrysler union might ultimately be a tragic one. Fiat's role in helping to save Chrysler post-bankruptcy was applauded by President Obama just days ago, but already the naysayers are building their case. And unfortunatel…

A little respect, please The 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible doesn't have to be a true luxury car to hit the mark in its segment, but it sure wouldn't hurt. Up to now, you've most likely encountered the Chrysler Sebring convertible on a rental car lot. Middle-management executives across the country invariably anticipate a summertime business trip with the refrain, "We can take the Sebring!" Unfortunately it's not necessarily a gesture of respect, especially when it comes out of the mouths of people like the self-absorbed boss featured in The Office. It's no wonder the all-new 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible is clearly reaching several steps above the outgoing …

The eggcrate grille has been swapped for one composed of sculpted horizontal slats, as seen on the Chrysler 200 and Town & Country (and, unfortunately, the Hyundai Sonata). I actually just got back from the dealer. Here's how it went: I went to the dealer around 4pm today. After talking with the service technician, he recommended that I leave it be for now because it would got 90 bucks an hour and it's a 2 hour or so job for a couple of bulbs. He was pretty honest with me. He told me they'd fix it if I wanted but it's pretty expensive for a couple of bulbs. As long as it's readable it's fine. He also gave me a discount card for oil changes. Basically it's a dollar off the first oil change, and a dollar is added until the 5th one...which is free. Anyway, I walk into the showroom and see the salesman (whose name is Eric). We greet and talk …

Ok, so these two are old, very old. The Backpack was a 1995 concept that was, frankly, cool. Almost useless (c'mon, a pickup with a 3ft bed?) but totally cool. Should have been produced just for the sake of producing it. The Expresso (wikipedia lists it as a Plymouth, the website the pics come from says its a Chrysler), on the other hand, should have had a coathanger abortion before the public could be subjected to it. Just a couple random Plymouth concepts from back in the day.

Former Toyota USA President Jim Press Never Owned A Toyota Or Lexus The Chrysler media blog's got an interview with the new Vice-Chairman of "The New Chrysler," Jim Press. Much of it's a nice little flufferview of the guy who until being snagged by Cerberus, spent thirty years at Toyota, eventually becoming President of Toyota USA and the only non-Japanese ToMoCo board member. Still, at the end of the interview was a little blurb that stood out as shockingly note-worthy: "Press has always loved cars. He built his first go-cart at age seven, got his first car when he was 12. At age 13, he started washing cars at his family's dealership in Kansas. But he said he never …

Edmunds Full Test Dude! Dodge is making that?" "Huh?" "That thing you're driving. It's a Dodge?" "Yup. A Nitro." And so it goes with the 2007 Dodge Nitro, which, in R/T trim, is perhaps the most striking midsize SUV sold today. We drove Dodge's latest creation from L.A. to Vegas and back and fielded more questions, confused gawks and outright stares than the last Lamborghini we drove home. People in L.A. and Vegas know Lambos, but they've never seen anything quite like Dodge's stubby, flared-fender, fat-tired creation. It's the proportions that get the attention and, ultimately, make the look work. The high waistline with huge wheels and a wide stance covered by agg…

Give It Away, Now: Chrysler's Crazy Lease Deals Chrysler's going to give people cavities and diabetes if they sweeten their deals any more. DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is leasing 2006 model year vehicles at a drastically higher rate than crosstown rivals General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. as it works to unload a glut of new cars and trucks. Lease deals can help automakers boost sales because they typically offer lower monthly payments. Dealers say Chrysler is making lease deals on 2006 models even more attractive by lowering lease interest rates, relaxing credit requirements and raising vehicles' residual values. It's good news for car buyers who can l…

Benz-sourced turbo-diesel adds new dimension to Jeep's slick new Grand Cherokee The Benz V6s form an interesting backdrop to the Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD launched in Australia this week with an all-new, Mercedes-sourced 3.0-litre V6. The Grand Cherokee’s turbo-diesel winds out an impressive 160kW (at 4000rpm) as well as the expected mountain of torque – in this case, 510Nm at a barely-spinning 1600rpm. This means it will accelerate from zero to 100km/h in a mere 9.0 seconds – half a second faster than the 4.7-litre petrol V8 version of the new Grand Cherokee. Just as importantly, the efficient oil-burner means the almost-2.2-tonne Grand Cherokee has fuel co…

Since everyone gets a shot at how they would fix brands/companies, I figure I'll give it a go. And no, nothing is being sold off. Dodge: The brand stands for bold, designs that don't follow the crowd, powerful, and performance oriented. Dodge isn't badly damaged IMO, and there are some easy thing that could properly repair it. Ram: Ram is up for redesign, the powertrains seem promising, as does the styling. Give it a truley great interior and it should be in good shape Charger: Give the 2.7L a 5-speed automatic, and improve the interior design/materials some. Magnum: Add 5-speed to the 2.7L Caliber: Upgrade the materials in the interior, teh design itself is…

In Depth: 2007 Dodge Nitro Auburn Hills, Mich., Oct 1, 2006 - To better understand a new product, sometimes it helps to know what it is not. Take the all-new 2007 Dodge Nitro, for example. Nitro is not another mid-size sport-utility vehicle with sleep-inducing styling. Instead, the bold styling and masculine swagger of Dodge (think Viper, Ram, Magnum and Caliber) is hot-wired into Nitro, inside and out. The Dodge Nitro is not stuck on its handsome good looks. It’s also functional. Nitro’s spacious interior has room for five passengers, innovative cargo features, and the seating and storage flexibility to handle the needs of people and their gear. The Dodge Nitro is…

Also, someone over at GMI pointed this out...go check out the Chrysler website. There is a button for "Ask Dr. Z" that takes you nowhere. On the Sebring page, there is a contest titled "My life. My car. My mess." to find the messiest car. Then, on the Sebring page, you click on details for more info and just get some pictures, like clicking on the 2.4L button just shows you a picture of the Sebring engine. And on the exterior pictures link under "style," all the Sebrings are photoshopped into the background image. Seriously, what gives?

Unloved as they are, let's give Chrysler's K Car its due. Thirty years ago, the K represented a sea change in the Pentastar lineup. Not only did the K and its derivatives return Chrysler to the black, the architecture proved versatile enough to underpin basically the entire lineup, from minivans to LeBarons to turbocharged Daytonas. Southern California now has an official K Car club – fitting, as that's likely the only place you could find an early '80s Chrysler without lots of rust. Club membership is open to the entire swath of cars that share this similar architecture, known as the "EEK" models, so you won't get kicked out for showing up in a Caravelle instead of an Ar…

Stopped by one of the local Mopar dealerships this afternoon and looked at the new bigger Jeep. Sure enough, it's blocky, but it's handsome, and despite the pics that make it look kinda tippy, it really doesn't give that impression first hand. It has a nice stance. Overall, I give it a preliminary grade of B (haven't driven it.)

30 March 2006 By Jonny Lieberman icon The non-Trail Rated, four-wheel drive Jeep Compass; in repose. Grizzly Pete owned a Jeep. My college roommate's idea of a relaxing weekend: drive into Death Valley with a handgun and a knife and forage for food and water. Pete didn't need GPS; he could navigate via stars reflected off tortoise shells. Heated seats? He'd rub two Gila monsters together until they burst and spread their warm innards on his chair. Parking radar? Pete was the master of the dry lake reverse bootlegger's turn. And if Pete gouged his truck on the razor sharp spines of a Joshua tree, so much the better. A Jeep looked more like Jeep with trail damage. A…

CNN Story Jeep unveils two compact SUVs Though they are officially "concept" vehicles, the Patriot and Compass could see production soon. September 12, 2005: 12:54 PM EDT NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Jeep unveiled two concept vehicles at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany today that, a company executive said, hint at a worldwide portfolio expansion for the off-road brand. While both vehicles are relatively compact, with roughly 104-inch wheelbases, they offer distinct personalities. The Jeep Patriot has the tough, off-road appearance for which Jeep is known. The Jeep Compass concept has a softer, more wagon-like look. The company boasts of the high fuel-e…

For once, I'm not going to completely bash Chrysler, just going to bitch for a minute. I want a Wrangler, have for years, I've been going through all the scenarios that will permit me to buy a new one next spring, and weighing possible other purchases, the FJ Cruiser when talking new, and a number of small, convertible SUVs when talking used. An Amigo would be my first choice, but I have a soft spot for the Tracker/Sidekick and would think hard about a RAV4 or Sportage vert. Back to the Wrangler, specifically where Jeep is going to lose my sale. Jeep offers 3 models of the Wrangler 2-door, the X, Sahara and Rubicon. MyGig is a must, and its only available on the t…

Seven months after launch, Jeep spending heavily on Commander incentives By MARY CONNELLY | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 03/27/06, 8:29 am et DETROIT -- Seven months after the launch of the Commander SUV, Jeep is spending heavily to subsidize sales. In February, Jeep shelled out an average $5,461 per unit in Commander incentives, according to the Power Information Network. Jeep's spending on the Commander outpaced by $1,803 per unit the average for the mid-sized SUV category, PIN says. In February, the midsized-SUV segment averaged $3,658, the data say. "It is definitely a warning signal," says Tom Libby, PIN analyst. "They are trying to keep invent…

Police were called to the couples home by neighbors complained of teenage drinkers who threw things at cars, and found empty beer cups, kegs and liquor bottles. I was driving along the other day, and I noticed that the Calgary Police Service is replacing their Impalas, and to a smaller extent, their Crown Vics with Dodge Chargers... from what I saw, it looked real mean with a reinforced bumper, steel wheels and a blacked out grille (Sorry, no pics). This has led me to ask the question- is Dodge winning back favour in the police market... How have these cars caught on elsewhere?

LaSorda Recognizes Crap Chrysler Group Ads During a meeting with Detroit-area dealers, Tom LaSorda, Chrysler group's CEO, expressed his displeasure with the current advertising route employed by the Detroit firm BBDO. He specifically singled out the ad where a stranded motorist enlists the help of a Nitro driver to jump his car. You've seen the rest, so we're not going to bore you with a description. Autoblog --- The Nitro ads are bad. Anybody see the "That's bold/stupid/whatever, That's Nitro" ads? To hell with truth in advertising; how about making sense in advertising?

Responding to word that Chrysler may begin selling off assets and brands soon, Chrysler Vice Chairman and President Tom LaSorda admitted that while the automaker is keen to consider parting with "non-earning assets" or assets that "may be coming due,'" Chrysler "...will not separate the brands from the company." That means that among other things, the struggling automaker may sell tooling for previous-generation vehicles or those on the way out, but it will not part with plants or nameplates. In a post on Chrysler's Firehouse media blog, LaSorda is quoted as saying "What was reported that we're in discussions to sell the Jeep brand is absolutely false... we will not sep…
