The Lincoln Aviator is making a comeback as a three-row crossover. At the New York Auto Show, Lincoln unveiled the Aviator Concept which looks like a smaller Navigator. The bold front end, clean side profile, and smooth rear end are here. But that isn't the big news about this concept. For that, you need to look under the Aviator's skin. The concept uses an all-new rear-wheel drive platform that will also underpin the next-generation Explorer. Lincoln hints the production model will have the option of all-wheel drive. As for power, the concept boasts a twin-turbocharged V6 engine paired with a plug-in hybrid system. No other details such as power figures or range were…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 27, 2013 Toyota pulled the covers off the third-generation 2014 Highlander today at New York Auto Show. The Highlander's exterior is much more muscular than the outgoing model with a large grille, pointy headlights, and slab sides, and large, blocky flared fenders. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard, while nineteen-inch wheels are optional. Compared to the outgoing Highlander, the 2014 Highlander is 2.7 inches longer and 0.6 inches wider. That means there is 34% more cargo room and the third row is 4.3-inches wider, making it a more livable space. You have the choice of either seating for seven or eight people.…

Chevrolet has revealed their second New York Auto Show showing last night and it happens to be the 2015 Cruze. Now for those who were expecting the automaker to launch the next-generation model will be disappointed as the 2015 model is a refresh. The new model isn't expected for a little longer. Changes for the 2015 model begin with a larger front grille and reshaped taillights. LT and LTZ models get LED running lights mounted below the headlights. Inside is where the big changes are. The Cruze's infotainment system now can read text messages to the driver, has Apple's Siri Eyes Free voice controls if you have an iPhone, and a 4G LTE connection that allows the vehicle t…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 2, 2012 Here is the new Lexus ES that will premiere at the New York Auto Show this week; even though we have seen it back in February thanks to a photographer. The front end has the spindle (or predator) grill and LED strips running along the headlights. The back end appears to closely resemble the flagship LS sedan. We'll have more information when the ES is shown later this week. *UPDATE* William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 4, 2012 Today, Lexus unveiled the new ES at the New York Auto Show. And like we expected, the new ES uses Lexus' new design language. What was kind of unexpected …

Toyota isn't resting on its laurels with the Camry. Even though the company redesigned the model back in 2012, new competitors are threatening the Camry's midsize sedan sales crown. So the company went back to the drawing board and came up with the 2015 Camry, shown today at the New York Auto Show. Toyota says the 2015 model has been rebuilt from the ground-up with more than 2,000 new parts in a effort to make the new model a bit more exciting, something Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda has mandated. The exterior has grown in length by 1.8 inches and features a 0.4 inch wider track. Up front is styling that is similar to the new Corolla with a wider and more prominent grille and…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 25, 2013 This morning, Buick pulled back the curtain on the new 2014 LaCrosse that will be shown at the New York Auto Show later this week. Outside, Buick designers put a lot of focus on the LaCrosse's front and rear ends. The front features a new oversized waterfall grille, LED-trimmed headlights, and Buick's signature hood vents being moved from the top to the side of the hood. The rear end sees reshaped LED taillights, full-width chrome trim on the decklid, and a new fascia design. LaCrosse V6 models get revised exhaust finishers. Moving inside, the 2014 LaCrosse gets new seats, updated materials, and a red…

Here is something to consider: Last year, Toyota sold more than 400,000 RAV4s in the U.S. Impressive to say in the least as that model was nearing the end of its lifecycle. But the impressive sales number leaves Toyota in a tough spot when it comes to redesigning. Do they play it safe to continue the upward trend in sales or take a chance? With the 2019 RAV4, Toyota went with the latter option. We were expecting elements of the FT-AC shown at last year's LA Auto Show to appear on the RAV4. We weren't expecting Toyota to take the FT-AC and make into the new RAV4. The chunky, boxy look of the concept has made it into production. The Adventure model looks very SUV-like w…

Since the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox debuted at the Chicago Auto Show in February, we knew that it wouldn't be too long before GMC would roll out a refreshed Terrain. Well at New York, the automaker will be showing off the 2016 Terrain family. Like the Equinox, the Terrain keeps its basic shape. But key items such as the front and rear fascia, grille, and wheels are slightly changed. Inside gets a new center stack, along with new cloth and leather choices for each trim level. The blind zone alert and rear cross traffic alerts which was available on the Denali model is now optional on the SLE and SLT trims. Powertrains for the Terrain are the same as the outgoing model. The …

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 3, 2012 A few weeks ago, we reported that Honda would show a Crosstour concept at the New York Auto Show. Well, the time has come and here is the Crosstour Concept. At first glance, you're left wondering what has changed. Then after a second look, you notice a new grill and front bumper. Also, there is new body cladding along the side. We'll update this when we get more information on the Crosstour concept. *UPDATE* William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 4, 2012 Earlier today, Honda showed the Crosstour Concept at the New York Auto Show. Shortly after my conversation with Mr. Jan-Willem Vester of Saab, we began piling into the seating area at The Park restaurant, and I had the privilege of sitting next to David Poniatowski (product manager for the Solstice and Vibe, former GTO product manager) and Bruce Kosbab, chief engineer for the Solstice. Here are main points of our conversation Building the Solstice using as mny off-the-shelf GM parts as possible wasn't only cost effective, it was also a lot of fun. The program felt almost like an episode of "Junkyard Wars" The Kappa architecture is actually smilar to a BOF vehicle, except that the body is welded to the frame instead of bolted to it. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 22, 2013 Automakers do their best to keep a new vehicle under wraps until the time comes when they can show it off to everyone on their terms. Any spy shot and leak could disrupt their plans. For example, Jalopnik this morning reportedly had the shots and the name of the 2014 Jeep replacement for the Liberty, the Cherokee. The shots taken in a factory were somewhat blurry but gave us a look of what was supposedly the new unique shape of the Cherokee. Well Jeep has gone ahead and released some pictures and confirmed the name of Cherokee tonight. There are only a handful shots released and all show the new nos…

Drew Dowdell Managing Editor Cheersandgears.com April 5th, 2012 Toyota today unveiled the 2013 Toyota Avalon at the New York Auto Show. The Avalon moves to the new Corporate face of Toyota as seen on the Camry while also moving to the new Camry platform introduced late last year. Toyota calls the styling on the Avalon bold and sporty... which we will leave that judgement up to you. Subaru is taking a page out of Honda's playbook with previewing new models via thinly disguised concepts. This morning at the New York Auto Show, the Japanese automaker unveiled the Ascent Concept. To our eyes, the Ascent looks like a bigger Forester. Yes, it does have a more muscular look with a large grille and sculpting along the doors. The back end reminds us of the Levorg sold elsewhere in the world as it features similar styling. Move inside and the Ascent offers seating for up to seven people. The dashboard is concept-esq with touch-sensitive controls for the infotainment system, locks, and windows. One interesting tidbit Subaru dropped was th…

It is expected to deliver an EPA estimated 27 mpg in the city and the best highway mileage of any SUV at 32 mpg. The Vue's hybrid system will cost under $2,000. The full vehicle price will start at less than $23,000. “The Vue Green Line is expected to be the lowest-cost hybrid-powered SUV in the market,” said Mark LaNeve, GM North America vice president of Ve…

Chevrolet's showing for New York is the updated 2017 Sonic. Both the hatchback and sedan get new fascias that borrow heavily from the new Bolt and Cruze. Up front are new headlights with LED running lights, chrome trim, dual grilles, and a sculpted hood. Around back are a set of single-unit taillights. Wheel sizes range from 15 to 17-inches. We're a bit worried the exterior updates have taken away some of the personality from the Sonic, but we will withhold judgment until we see it in person. Inside, Chevrolet has swapped the digital gauge cluster for one with an analog speedometer. There is also an updated version of Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system, keyles…

The 2019 Subaru Forester which debuted yesterday at the New York Auto Show looks very familiar to the current Forester. Despite what the body looks like, there are major changes underneath the Forester's skin. It begins with the platform. The 2019 Forester becomes the latest Subaru model to move onto the company's new global platform. This allows for a 1.2-inch increase in overall wheelbase which Subaru has used to improve rear legroom. In fact, Subaru says the new Forester offers more head, shoulder, and legroom than the outgoing model. As for cargo space, the 2019 Forester boasts 76.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded - up 1.9 cubic feet. Subaru has increased th…

Now, GM is expanding the roll out of their MyLink infotainment system to Buick and GMC vehicles. Renamed IntelliLink, the system is the same as MyLink. C&G @ NYIAS: Impressions by z28luvr01 Well, it's been just over a week since the NYIAS press days, and what better way to round out my coverage than by writing a few words about my overall impressions of the events? I am delighted and honored to have been given the opportunity to attend the press days, and I have to take a moment to thank Doug Wernert and Mary Horvat of Weber-Shadwick (GM's PR firm) for doing whateve…

Hyundai has been trying hard with the Sonata in the crowded mid-size segment for at least 2 decades. When the 2015 Sonata debuted at the 2014 New York Auto Show, it was largely received with a yawn. Despite being a competent vehicle (read our review of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.0T), it just wasn’t enough to fully challenge the Accord, Camry, and Fusion for love from the automotive press. As early as the following year, Hyundai had already announced a redesign for Sonata. Here we are back at the 2017 New York Auto Show with the redesigned 2018 Sonata. A quick shake of the magic 8-ball says… “Outlook Not So Good”. You can read the press release for the 2018 Hy…

Toyota isn't going to let the new 2019 RAV4 hog the spotlight at next week's New York Auto Show. The automaker will also be debuting the all-new 2019 Corolla Hatchback. We've like the Corolla iM for looking a fair bit more interesting than the Corolla sedan, and the new hatchback continues that. The overall look is more edgy and angular than the model it replaces. Up front is a massive lower grille and J-shaped headlights. Around back, a set of angular taillights and rounded tailgate reminds us of the previous-generation Mazda3. In overall dimensions, the Corolla Hatchback is 1.5-inches longer, 1.2-inches wider, and sits an inch lower than the iM. …

The only Giulia trim that Alfa Romeo has been parading around at various auto shows has been the 505 horsepower Quadrifoglio. Thankfully, Alfa Romeo will be introducing the remainder of the Giulia lineup at the New York Auto Show next week. There will be two models that sit underneath the Quadrifoglio - the Giulia and Giulia Ti. Both will come equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 276 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This will be paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic. Power will be routed to the rear wheels, with Q4 all-wheel drive available as an option. Like the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the regular Giulia features a 50/50 weight distribution and…

Mercedes-Benz is clearing out all of their debuts of this current auto show season. So far, Mercedes has announced a refresh of the CLA, and two new AMG models; E43 and GLC43. Now for the piece de resistance of their New York showings - the 2017 GLC Coupe. The best way we can describe the looks of the GLC Coupe is to think of the GLE Coupe shrunken down. Compared to the standard GLC, the Coupe is about 2.9 inches longer and 1.5 inches shorter. Key design details include a steeply raked A-Pillar, sloping roof, diamond grille, and S-Class Coupe-inspired taillights. There will be two models on offer, each with their own unique powertrain setup. GLC 300 4Matic: Turb…

Genesis unveiled something very different at the New York International Auto Show this evening. It's their take on an electrified luxury city car. The jellybean like shape is supposed to evoke classic proportions while having a modern minimalistic appearance. It is a 2-door, 2 passenger car that has access to the rear storage area via a pair of scissor doors. Inside is similarly minimalistic and oblong. The dashboard is integrated directly into the steering wheel surrounded by 6 large control buttons. For those of you who miss having a bench seat, Genesis brings you hope. The high density battery is capable of a 200-mile range and 350-kWh fast charging. …

G. Noble Editor/Reporter CheersandGears.com March 27, 2012 There certainly aren’t many large cars in the world more dull and geriatric than Toyota’s Avalon. Drum up your thoughts about the current model, which went on sale all the way back in 2005, and you’re sure to think of retirement homes and Shoney’s rather than sporting arenas and Hooters. However, Toyota desperately wants to change all of that. The teaser image above was released today, and Toyota says it previews a “stunning US-designed sedan” the name of which hasn’t been officially confirmed. Not to worry, though, because you don’t need inside confirmation to work out this is probably the new Avalon. The te…

New York was the place Acura chose to introduce the production version of the 2015 TLX and no surprise, it looks the prototype that was shown at the Detroit Auto Show back in January. The overall design reminds us more the ILX than the RLX, which in our view isn't a good thing at all. Compared to the TL and TSX which it replaces, the TLX is about 3.8 inches shorter than the TL and 4.6 inches longer than the TSX. Inside, Acura has fitted the TLX with much more premium materials such as a soft-touch, one-piece instrument panel cover, alloy and wood-grain trim, and available Milano leather seats. The center stack features Acura's dual screen infotainment. As powertrains, t…

General Motors is going to have quite the showing for the New York Auto Show with the introduction of the Cadillac CT6 and Chevrolet Malibu. Add another showing to that list. Chevrolet released a teaser shot of the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Spark. Chevrolet describes the Spark as having "sleeker, more aerodynamic profile and a progressive take on' the brand's design cues. From what we can tell from the shot, it looks like the Spark will sport with a larger lower grille and a new upper grill. “The new Spark’s design has evolved and grown up with the segment. The Lexus RX is the brand's most important product. 30 percent of Lexus' total volume since the brand was launched back in 1989 is to the RX. So Lexus knows they can't screw up the next-generation model. The result was shown today at the New York Auto Show. Outside, the RX is much sharper and outgoing than any RX model before. The overall look is a softened NX with creases, angles, and front end that looks like it could eat you. Inside boasts new dashboard layout with a large, 12.3 inch display for the infotainment system and gear shift moving to the center console. Rear seat is said to be improved, but Lexus isn't giving out specifics at the moment. Like before, Lexus …

It seems like forever since Mazda announced plans to introduce a diesel engine for the U.S. market. You need to go all the way back to 2010 when the Japanese automaker first announced its intentions, with the ambitious goal of meeting stringent emissions standards without a costly exhaust aftertreatment system. Ambitious and one that would end up going nowhere. After almost a decade of various delays, changing plans, and the elephant in the room that is the Volkswagen diesel emission scandal, Mazda has finally announced that they will begin selling a CX-5 turbodiesel beginning this year. No launch window was given, but the company has announced they are beginni…

Lincoln has released a teaser video and picture to generate some buzz head of the NY International Auto Show in 3 weeks. The Lincoln Corsair will take over for the Lincoln MKC when it goes on sale late this year. Two of the engine options will carry over, the 2.0T and 2.3T ecoboost 4-cylinders, but a plug-in hybrid variant will bow in as well. The Corsair fills in the entry level of Lincoln's SUV lineup, but if it is anything like the Aviator and Navigator, it will greatly up the ante on interior appointments and luxury. Corsair is a nod to the nautical and aviation naming theme that Lincoln is using for its SUVS. Corsair is unique in that is has been used…

Dubbed Project P.U.M.A. (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility), GM and Segway are developing an electrically powered, two-seat prototype vehicle that has only two wheels. It could allow people to travel around cities more quickly, safely, quietly and cleanly - and at a lower total cost. The vehicle also enables design creativity, fashion, fun and social networking. The 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster and 2009 Nissan NISMO 370Z will be unveiled during a live webcast tonight at 7 PM EST, but we've got the details on both models ahead of their official debut. The Roadster retains the same greasy bits as the coupe, but adds open air action in the form of a new power-operated, fully-lined fabric top with a glass rear window. The top automatically connects to the windshield header so the driver doesn't have to fiddle around with a latch and it can be lowered or raised from inside or out, through the use of an interior-mounted switch or a button on the door handle. A glass wind blocker between the headrests keeps buffeting to a minimum without…

My Report on the NYIAS April 22, 2006 by z28luvr01 On saturday afternoon I made the trip to the Jacob Javitz center for the New York International Auto Show. Believe it or not, it's the last weekend of the auto show season. You couldn't tell that from the massive crowds of people at the event, however. I'll present my account here. Some of the photographs didn't come quite as nice as I would have liked, and I apologize for that. As soon as visitors enter the Javitz center, they're greeted by a collection of cars whose combined value many of us will never see in a lifetime: The first exhibit I ended up seeing is the Lincoln-Mercury exhibit. It wasn't as dead…

I have a question for you; when was the last time that Scion ever introduced a new model? The answer was back 2011 at the New York Auto Show when the brand introduced the FR-S. Since that time, the automaker has seen precipitously drop and questions were raised whether Toyota was going to help out Scion or just let it sink. Well the parent company has went with the former option and the brand is premiering two vehicles before the start of the New York Auto Show. Meet the first of these two new models, the iA. The iA will take the place of the long-running xD model in Scion's lineup. Looking at the iA, you can't help but think there is lot of influence from another automa…

The rumor was true! Today at the New York Auto Show, Volkswagen rolled out the Atlas Tanoak concept (pronounced "Tan-oh-ack", not "Tan-oke"). The mid-size truck concept is based on the MQB-platform that underpins the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport Concept. Design-wise, the Tonoak follows the standard Altas right up to the B-Pillar. From there, Volkswagen's designers added 11-inches to the overall wheelbase to fit a 64.1-inch cargo bed. An integrated sliding rail in the bed allows the truck to carry items such as ladders above the bed. Various concept touches include a light-up grille, 'ATLAS' embossed in the bumper, and a rear taillight that runs the radius of the tailga…

The current Civic wasn't quite the home run Honda expect. Sure it sold well, but it wasn't the model many were expecting - it wasn't very Honda-like. So back to the drawing board and the result is the Civic Concept shown in New York today. The concept gives us a preview into the upcoming Civic which will be coming out this fall. Riding on a longer wheelbase, Honda's designers gave the Civic a short front overhang, long hood, a greenhouse that has been set back, and a small rear end. This look gives the Civic an athletic look. "Charismatic, connected and athletic, our goal was to create a design that is emotional and sporty yet with a sense of timelessness and simplicity…

Previous Page Next Page Ford will be using next week's New York Auto Show to show off an updated Fusion. The exterior gets the mildest of refreshes with slightly tweaked fascias, more color choices, and new wheel designs. But the big news deals with safety. The 2019 Fusion will be the first Ford model to come with the company's Co-Pilot360 Protect suite of driver assistance technologies. This includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beam headlights, backup camera, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist. The suite will come standard on all Fusion models. A new 9-kWh lithium-ion batt…

Mitsubishi seems to be in a pattern of unveiling two models for an auto show. At the LA Auto Show, the Japanese automaker introduced the updated 2017 Mirage and Outlander Sport. For New York, Mitsubishi introduced the 2017 Mirage G4 sedan and Outlander PHEV. We'll begin with the Mirage G4 which takes the Mirage hatchback and adds a trunk. Personally, I think it looks somewhat nicer than the refreshed hatch. Power comes from a 1.2L three-cylinder with 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque. There is a choice of either a five-speed manual or CVT. Standard on the G4 will be Apple Carplay and Android Auto integration. The Mirage G4 goes on sale this spring. Next is…

If you had the chance to read our story on the Lincoln Continental yesterday, then you read this line: "The overall look of the Continental Concept oddly reminds us of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur." We're not the only one to take notice of this. Car Design News reports that Bentley isn't too keen on this similarity. Luc Donckerwolke, Bentley's chief designer went to Facebook to voice his complaints. "I would have called it Flying Spur concept and kept the four round lights," said Donckerwolke. Donckerwolke then went to Lincoln chief designer David Woodhouse's Facebook to say, "Do you want us to send the product tooling?" Since then, the comment was deleted, b…

Last month we reported that Ford was apparently working on another version of the Mustang with a more powerful Ecoboost 4-cylinder. Well apparently Ford is preparing to show that Mustang at an event during the New York International Auto Show. The new Ecoboost Mustang could possibly wear an SVO badge, going back to the days when one of the hotter Mustangs was also powered by a Turbo-4. Ford is looking to fill a gap in the Mustang lineup. Currently, there is a 125 horsepower gap between the current Turbo-4 powered car and the V8 Powered GT. Chevrolet fills that space with a 335 hp V6 in their Camaro, while Ford's base powerplant offers just 310 hp only when usi…

It was five years ago that Kia shocked everyone with the introduction of the Optima. With a bold design, impressive engine lineup, and excellent value for money, the Optima put everyone in the midsize sedan class on notice and was a catalyst in the transformation of Kia. So it seems appropriate that Kia introduce an all-new Optima at New York, which is what they did today. The previous Optima was a big success for the brand, and that put Kia in a tough position. How do you make a popular model new and fresh, while retaining the identity that worked so well before? In the Optima's case, you leave the basic shape, but make a number of adjustments to the front and rear. The…

Acura/Honda tend to push the definition of 'concept' to its limits. Case in point is the 2019 Acura RDX that debuted in production form today in New York. Compared to the concept shown at Detroit, the production model looks mostly the same. There is the large pentagonal grille, floating roof, and character line creases. An A-Spec variant adds gloss black trim and 20-inch wheels. Dimension-wise, the 2019 RDX is about 2.6-inches longer over the outgoing model. The wheelbase increases by 2.6-inches. This allows for more space for passengers (104 cubic feet) and cargo (29.5 cubic feet). For the interior, Acura's designers want to give off the impression of sport with …

Before the start of the New York Auto Show, Buick has revealed the 2017 Encore. Not surprising, it looks exactly like the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka that debuted at Geneva earlier this month. There is a new grille with a chrome bar running across the middle and headlights (higher trim models get LED headlights). Around back are a set of LED taillights. The interior becomes less cluttered with a new center stack design. An eight-inch touchscreen comes with the latest version of Buick IntelliLink with Android Auto and Apple Carplay compatibility. The two 1.4L turbo-four engines - 138 horsepower and 153 horsepower - will carry over. There will be a choice of front-wheel or …

The New York Auto Show happens opens each year during the week prior to Easter. We'll be there on Wednesday the 18th to check out the new releases. Here's a list of what we expect to see. Hyundai Hyundai will be hosting the North American debut of the next-generation Palisade crossover. The 2026 Palisade was shown in South Korea back in December, but it is coming to New York to show off any changes that might be in place for the North American market. It adopts the Pixel theme already applied to the Hyundai Santa Fe and Ioniq 5. Powertrain changes are expected to include a turbo 4-cylinder to replace the V6 and the addition of a hybrid model. …

Next week at the New York Auto Show, Ford will drop the cover on the 2015 Focus Sedan. Now if you expecting something different between the sedan and hatchback, then you'll disappointed. Since its beginnings as a military truck back in the forties, the Dodge Power Wagon has earned a reputation of being a off-road vehicle that could take on anything in its path. The 2014 Power Wagon continues that well-earned reputation with improvements to make it a bit more functional for the daily drive. Using the bones of the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4x4 Crew Cab, Ram begins the changes with a larger 6.4L HEMI V8 engine that will make 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. A cylinder-deactivation system and six-speed automatic transmission should help improve fuel economy. Under the skin, Ram has taken the coil spring setup idea from the 1500 and applied it to the …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 28, 2013 Subaru's first production hybrid vehicle made its debut at the New York Auto Show today. The XV Crosstrek Hybrid follows in the footsteps of the XV Crosstrek that was shown last year at New York. Subaru's hybrid system is made up of a the regular XV Crosstrek's 2.0L four-cylinder 148 horsepower engine and a 13.4 horsepower electric motor mated to a 13.5-kilowatt nickel-metal-hydride battery. Power is funneled through Subaru's Linetronic CVT to all four wheels. Sadly, fuel economy hasn't gone up by much. Subaru estimates that the XV Crosstrek Hybrid will get 28 City/34 Highway. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 2, 2012 It seems without fail, that when an auto show comes into town, there are leaks to go with it. Example: the new Mercedes-Benz GL. Mercedes-Benz is keep their mouth shut at the moment as to what powertrains will be in the GL. Kia has been an outlier in the minivan class with the Sedona. It never quite had the same status as the Chrysler Town & Country/Dodge Caravan, Honda Odyssey, and Toyota Sienna. But the company plans to change that with the introduction of the 2015 Sedona at the New York Auto Show this week. Yes, we know New York Concept isn't the best name. But the first concept from the Genesis brand gives us a better idea of what to expect with their future products. The design of the New York Concept is an evolution of the Vision G coupe concept we saw last year. It begins up front with a long hood, narrow headlights, and L-Shaped vents. Other details to take in is a fair amount of sculpting along the side, long rear overhang, low deck, and a Ceramic Blue paint color. The interior is dominated by a curved, 21-inch 4K touchscreen. The touchscreen is augmented by touchpads and can be controlled with swiping gestures. There is seating for four people in leather-wrapp…

When Hyundai unveiled the current Sonata at 2014 New York Auto Show, it landed with a bit of thud. Compared to the previous-generation model that stood out from the crowd with a sharp design, the new model was a bit dull. Hyundai is addressing this with a heavily refreshed Sonata that made its debut today in New York. The 2018 Sonata has a bit more personality thanks to new pentagonal grille (Sport and 2.0T models get a mesh insert), reshaped hood, smaller headlights, new trunk lid, and LED taillights. For the interior, Hyundai has redesigned the center stack, updated the instrument cluster, and added a USB port for rear seat passengers. Engines are the same as th…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 7, 2013 While many of us are still somewhat recovering from the madness that is the Geneva Motor Show, automakers are turning their attention to the next big show in New York. Hyundai has announced today that New York would be the place where they introduce the revised 2014 Equus. Hyundai released a teaser shot and says the 2014 Equus will come with more than 30 updates, including exterior and interior design tweaks, a revised suspension, improved materials, and new "driver technology displays." However the sleuths at CarScoops figured out that Hyundai has already revealed the 2014 Equus. Back in December, Hyun…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 28, 2013 Mitsubishi has introduced a new subcompact model called the Mirage to help resuscitate sales in the U.S today at the New York Auto Show. Today, Volkswagen announced that it would be building a five-passenger variant of the Atlas crossover. The “Five-Passenger Atlas,” as Volkswagen is calling it at the moment will be shown in concept form next week at the New York Auto Show. It is unclear whether the five-seat version will be shorter, but it appears to look slightly different than the standard Atlas. The new model will be built on Volkswagen's MQB platfrom and produced alongside the Atlas at the Chattanooga, TN plant. “The Atlas has built strong momentum for Volkswagen in the SUV segment, and we are excited to grow our SUV portfolio with this new, Chattanooga-assembled five-passenger SUV. To no ones surprise, Toyota unveiled the Scion iQ concept today at the New York Auto Show. Ever since the iQ debuted in Europe last year, the expectation has been that Toyota would sell the micro compact car as a Scion here in the U.S. to compete against the Smart ForTwo. What surprised us were the modifications made to the iQ for its debut in the States. In keeping with the customization culture that is rampant among Scion owners, the concept features widely flared fenders and super-size 18-inch wheels. Like the current production model, the concept iQ features 3+1 seating with a very compact air conditioning unit that fascilitates an asymmetrical dashboard. This allow…

At the 2016 New York Auto Show, Hyundai took the wraps off the 2017 Hyundai Ionic. Clearly aimed directly at Prius buyers, the Ioniq challenges the market leader by offering three powertrain variants in a single body-style. Additionally, the Ioniq is offering more conventional styling compared to the very polarizing new look of the Pruis. The three powertrains offered are standard hybrid - 104 horsepower, 109 lb-ft of torque, 1.6 liter direct injected Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder - 44 horsepower, 125 lb-ft electric motor feeding from a 1.56 kW LiO battery. The combined systems produced 139 horsepower. Power is routed to the front wheels through a 6-speed dual-clutch tr…
