Customer upset over Taco Bell "sauce wisdoms" Tuesday, June 06, 2006 Posted: 08:18 PM Link' WESLACO – One Valley woman says the slogan on Taco Bell’s sauce packets is offensive. As part of Taco Bell’s “Think outside the bun” campaign, the company held a contest last year for slogans to be printed on their sauce packets. Customers submitted their ideas, like “When I grow up I want to be a waterbed” and “You had me at taco”. The one that bothers Jessica Luna says, “Not to be used as a flotation device”. She tells NEWSCHANNEL 5, “Somewhere along their roots here, somebody came across the border from Mexico. Risking their lives to provide a better a life for their…

After 18 months, every body panel has been hit, and it seems that the car was driven with no antifreeze, so I believe that it is now dead. The car survived with me for 10 years and looked like brand new, and now, she's dead. I should have kept her, but... Let us remember her in health and happiness: RIP

Japan Mulls Legality of N. Korea Strike By MARI YAMAGUCHI AP TOKYO (AP) - Japan said Monday it was considering whether a pre-emptive strike on the North's missile bases would violate its constitution, signaling a hardening stance ahead of a possible U.N. Security Council vote on Tokyo's proposal for sanctions against the regime. Japan was badly rattled by North Korea's missile tests last week, and several government officials openly discussed whether the country ought to take steps to better defend itself, including setting up the legal framework to allow Tokyo to launch a pre-emptive strike against Northern missile sites. "If we accept that there is no other option …

"Life seems to just pull people apart" That's what a friend and former co-worker wrote to me earlier this week. She was lamenting the fact that some people she had gotten to know and had been close with ... now seem to be "lost in time". Sadly, I know exactly what she means. I can remember friends in college, high school, grade school and even from just a few years ago, that, at the time, I couldn't imagine life without them. But now, I can only be a bit curious as to what they're doing now ... or even, for that matter, if they are alive. We've grown apart, not because we wanted to, but because life pulled us in different directions ... whether it be because of inte…

Energy Plan Political Pandering Whenever Congress puts together a bill attempting to find a solution to some sort of real or imagined problem, my immediate thought is that the bill do one of four things: It will worsen the problem at hand It will do nothing to solve the problem but instead create a new problem somewhere else It will worsen the original problem and create new problems In the very best case it will do nothing at all Consider the ethanol plan. Growing corn to produce ethanol was supposed to help make us energy independent. What happened was that subsidies to grow corn (an energy wasteful process without the subsidies), did not cause gasoline pri…

As I was sitting in Mickey D's this evening being a bad boy eating my quarter pounder, I watched to see who would leave the restaurant and hop in a gray, base model Honda Fit in the parking lot. It was an 80-year-old lady, 95 pounds at most, with a huge hairdo, accompanied by her p.i.m.p., a dude who was at least 80 and walking pretty slowly. Has the "Fit is Go!" ad campaign fallen on (nearly) deaf ears? Is every "hip, young" Japanese car doomed to congregate at Friday Night Bingo at the VFW? I find this phenomenon pretty amusing.

It's true. It was just a phase. I have been cured of my gay disease. *nods* ....Okay, perhaps not. I'm quite the flaming homo, still. Anyways, I haven't been on the forums very much the past month. Life has taken many twists and turns, some good, some bad. I've been busy with work, friends, family, and the ever popular past time of car shopping. Speaking of the last two... My Mom, out of the blue, offered to help me with buying a car. She just got a new job in which her pay will be about $5 more per hour than her old one, not to mention she just finished paying off the Sunfire. Anyways, this greatly helped my search for a car. I'm very thankful she helped me. That…

The next RR will be up by this weekend with the June edition coming at its regularly scheduled time. Thanks for understanding.

Almost a decade has passed since I officially joined Cheers and Gears in 2005. In that time, I've graduated from high school, quit work, started work, started college, and what seems like several dozen cars have been in my ownership. Despite the multitude of variables in my life right up until today, this website has strangely been one reliable constant. I've even contributed to this site beyond my mere musings with a small host of articles and opinion pieces that have managed to find their way onto the front page of the site. While Cheers and Gears has been a constant in my life, my activity 'round these here parts has been fairly -- hmmmmm -- quiet here lately, more va…

I found this 91 Cavalier where the Aries was. You can see the $150 Aries in one of the pics. It still is there 2 months later. Anyways, this car was a two-owner car. It was bought in 94 as a used car by the parts manager's mother at this dealer. She babied it and drove it for 12 years. It needs some rocker work and the engine needs cleaning. The interior is almost spotless. The new car smell can even be smelled. The rear seat still has the dealer plastic on it. There is some rust on the bottom of the doors as well but a lot of it is dirt. It hasn't rusted through anywhere and is still original paint. There is one dent in the passenger side rear door. Minor though. It has …

Nissan Motor,Japan's third-biggest automaker,is preparing to produce fuel effcient small vehicles for Chrysler, taking a different route to enhance its presence in the American market despite concern about a slowdown. The two auto firms are in the final stages of negotiation on a deal for Nissan to supply Chrysler with small cars models with an engine displacement of around 1.8 liters,Japanese broadcaster NHK reported on Thursday. The pact is expected to boost Nissan's sales in the U.S market, and to help Chrysler make a turnaround from its recent weakness, attributed in part to an overdependence on light truck sales, the report said.A Nissan spokeswoman confirmed the …

I've been a little beside myself, humbled, since this happened. I don't have much to say. I'm out of a truck now, though. Let me also say, that, if I had hit the power lines going 30 MPH rather than 25 (the speed limit down the particular road I was traveling), I wouldn't even be typing this right now. The force of the hit of my truck was enough to almost snap the pole supporting the lines in two and knock the transformer off of its mountings (only two wires were holding it in place). Totalled. What happened? I can't really say for sure. I just know I came upon a surprise curve and tried to keep myself on the road by slowing down and (perhaps stupidly) downshiftin…

I went to bed at like 9 last night. I have the windows open in the house. Around 10:25 I am awakened by a freaking basketball being dribbled and smacked against a backboard... next-door neighbors are standing outside with a bunch of friends talking, and two young girls (about 8 and 10) are playing with this basketball in the dark (one of them repeatedly remarks that she can't see the ball!). WTF. This went on for at least a half hour. And the adults are oblivious to the problem. I live on a cul-de-sac, and none of the rest of us here ever makes noise, let alone at inappropriate hours of the night. I really wish I could use a Jedi mind trick to get them to move out …

I am checking out the price tomorrow or sometime this week. It is in terrible condition but since I cant drive, I will spend time trying to fix it up. I have pics as well. The interior is leather but the front bench seat is torn badly and the body is alright. The car has rust but it isn't too bad but it is more then I would like. When I go back I will check out the price and if it runs. I also will have to find a way to get it home. Anything I should watch out for? This car also has an analog speedometer not digital. Here ar…

So I've turned in a few applications and resumes at plenty of local businesses the last few days of May and I'm expecting at least one interview. Of course, with a job comes money, and I plan on shoveling that money into another car. Sure, I've got the S-10 ... but I have this urge to buy a nice car (since I do already have a truck, all trucks, with the rare exception of a cheap Syclone, are out ... SUVs still make the cut, however) that I can drive out of town without feeling embarrassed about the S-10s worn out paint, miles of dings and dents, practically non-existing exhaust system ... among other things I still haven't sorted out for some reason. I plan on it ... but …

I'm not sure, maybe I'm just mentally ill or something. In the past two days, I've been going around, pissing people off and doing some really obnoxious things. First I threw the recycling bins at the front porch where my housemates enter, seeing the bins sitting around after I took them after the garbage day. Then at work, I seemed to have made the already not so pleasant relation with my co-worker co-ops worse. Today one of my coworkers made a stupid comment on how the Camry was a sports car, I literally yelled at him. He was like astonished. Then I started making some stupid comments about my other co-worker, somehow to just for the heck of getting her irritated. Th…

So this Spring I've been working to make our yard a nicer place. The back/side yard has been, since we moved her last year, a barren expanse of mostly dirt and some weeds. That's all changing, as there is now grass growing quite well there, after some tilling, seeding, and watering. Soon it'll be time fort eh first mow. We've been using my Uncle's mower for the rest of the yard, but I want my own. When I was younger I used to fix mowers and I kinda miss doing that. A search on Craigslist lands me a Brute 22" Self-Propelled mower. Owner said he bought it last year and used it until the engine died and the manufacturer wouldn't warranty it, so he decided to get rid of it.…

Nissan/Renault Alliance: GM Outgoing, FMC Incoming At least, it looks that way: Carlos Ghosn's Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. may start talks with Ford Motor Co. as prospects fade for a link with General Motors Corp., two people with knowledge of the discussions said. Executives from the Renault-Nissan team and Ford have been in touch in the past month about exploring a possible link, according to the people, who asked not to be named because the proceedings are private. William Clay Ford Jr. initially called Ghosn in July to discuss a partnership if the GM-Ghosn talks led nowhere, three people familiar with the matter said last month. Read "Ford, Ghosn May Talk …

OK, my Cavy's lease is up exactly one year later, and as to not make an uneducated purchase like my current Cavalier, I'm researching. I might even try to get out early, but the chance is quite slim. Option 2 is viable, I always liked that car. My only concern is the mechanics of the car. I'm sure it'll…

My mom and I got into this conversation the other day. If the US Government created the law that all US citizens would from today forward need a very small tracking chip placed harmlessly inside their bodies for tracking, security, and/or citizenship purposes, would you be for or against it? I would be for it. This may make people want to not commit crimes because it would be more difficult for them to escape being caught (GPS). Also, what if you only had to scan your arm to prove citizenship? There are many things that I think are good about this. I honestly don't think this would take away from people's freedom. You won't be videotaped or anything. You'll be shown as …

In around 1993 or 1994, Chevrolet had a Monte Carlo concept car. It was rounded looking, and foretold the styling of the Gen 2 Lumina/Monte. I have searched all over the net, and can't find a shred of info. Its driving me nuts. The last time I saw it was 10 years ago. Well, it was a hell of a stressful weekend, what with getting my ass canned on Friday, out-of-the-blue (what the hell am I saying, we all saw the writing on the wall months ago.) For background, see the "Philosophically speaking, are you happy?" thread. Anyhoo, this afternoon I went for a follow-up interview at the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in town (after a preliminary meeting on Friday afternoon). I landed the job. I'll be doing the same thing I was at the other dealership, except the hours are much better, and there are a few perks the other place did not match. I'm happy and thankful this ordeal appears to be over. I start July 3rd. *whew*. Also, I don't know …

First Place: 2006 Honda Civic Si 2dr Coupe (2.0L 4cyl 6M) MSRP of Test Vehicle: $20,540 What Works: Sharp reflexes, powerful engine, brilliant limited-slip differential. What Needs Work: Wring-it-out power delivery, awful dashboard design, questionable exterior styling. Bottom Line: Fast, cheap and effective. Second Place: 2006 Volkswagen GTI New 2dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 6M) MSRP of Test Vehicle: $24,175 What Works: Flexible engine, usable shape, excellent combination of utility and performance. Here goes.. 5-series (best all-rounder, especially 535i) E-class (solid, everything from diesel to the 6.3) M (competitive numbers, lacking character, a bit "thin") A6 (lacking in numbers, but classy and sophisticated) STS (compelling with new V6, bold and brash) GS (compelling with V6, gutless V8, pointless V8h, refined, dull) S80 (nice) RL (Honda Legend) S-type (ritzy styling, dated) I excluded midsized entry-lux or faux-lux sedans like ES350, G35, MKZ, TL, CTS, Passat 3.6, 9-5, etc.

Let's see wht kind of imaginations you guys have... I'll start: I'd like to build a '32 highboy style hot rod out of a Peterbilt 379. Heres something simmilar (but more tacky) to my idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDTh-ELIXz8...feature=related

I am eating a light dinner of cheese and an apple. I love extra, Extra, EXTRA sharp cheddar to accompany the taste of the apple. This time, I bought "Heluva Good" brand "New York State Extra Sharp", and bleh, what a let-down. It's mild to the point of being flavorless, and it's way too creamy. I like my extra sharp cheddar to crumble when I cut it. Can anyone relate?

No joke. Hawking (and many, many others) have gone public in their concern about combining AI drones and weapons: "In an open letter posted online Monday, Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk and hundreds of other scientists warn humanity about such a dystopian military future. Like something from a Hollywood blockbuster, the scientists caution that only a ban on autonomous weapons now can stop an arms race that could see killer robots wipe out humans tomorrow. 'If any major military power pushes ahead with AI weapon development, a global arms race is virtually inevitable,' the letter says, 'and the endpoint of this technological trajectory is obvious: autonomous weapons will be…

Earnhardt to join Hendrick Motorsports for '08 season By Joe Menzer, NASCAR.COM June 13, 2007 02:45 PM EDT MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Sixteen years after they jokingly put pen to napkin, roughly four years after his own son predicted it would happen one day and Rick Hendrick scoffed at the idea, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has joined the team at Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick and Earnhardt made it official with an 11 a.m. ET announcement Wednesday at JR Motorsports, the facility owned by Earnhardt out of which he operates a Busch Series team and other budding racing ventures (watch video). The outfit Earnhardt is joining at Hendrick is no budding racing venture, but rather the or…

Here are a few of mine -clear tails, especially the ones that use a ton of chrome inside as a styling feature. - overlong headlights that go halfway to the A pillar (or more than halfway) - All the "blingy" chrome in headlight housings - Front fender cutlines on the A pillar - large spoilers - stickers - "eyebrow" turn signals (above the headlights) - "Bangle Butt" on anything - Rear mini-doors on a coupe - the godawful slabs of chrome on the bumper corners of the Silverado HDs - center mount exhaust

Some vehicles just have that urban feel. Slick and sophisticated, a person would be downright scared to drive them on a dirt road, much less buy one if you live beyond the suburbs. Other cars, meanwhile, just have that country air about them, they speak plainly to their prospective buyers that they can hold up when the blacktop ends. Post your city car/country car picks here, if you so desire. Here's two to get started: City car: Chevrolet Equinox Country car: Jeep Liberty

I admit it, I am a complete caffeine addict. Coffee is ok, but nothing gets me going like a nice, unhealthy Rockstar or Rumba, or if I can find it, some Bawls. Like cocaine, only available at gas stations. But today I had a weird experience, I drank my usual mornign Rockstar, and afterwards I was extremely jittery and restless, which never happens to me. I didn't crash either, just kinda slowed back down to normal. It was weird and kinda freaky. I think I'm gonna cut back now.

It seems that you cannot hold up as sign at the NASCAR races that says that you "Hate Toyotas" or you will be arrested. Read this: Sunday August 20, 2006 This man Bill Bagwell (the founder of fansagainestracingtoyotas.com) was at the NASCAR race in Michigan he was holding this sign up at the pre-race television show Race day on Speed TV. He had been among the fans holding signs for over a hour. Their were many signs some positive about NASCAR drivers and teams and some not so positive. During a break the producer came over and told Bill he could no longer hold his Toyota sign up. Bill told him that this race was still being held in the USA and that he had freedom o…

ish, that Opel influence is something. Test drove a Vue tonight. So now, in addition to my mancrush on the Astra XR, I have a similar mancrush on the Vue XR. The 4 cyl XE even too. Solid as a rock. The XR has mucho cajones under the hood. XE shocked me, i had to look at the Monroney to make sure it was only a 4 cyl. Corners on rails, for a crossover. HOW DO THEY SELL RAV4's? There is no comparison. The new Forester is junk by comparison. (yes, i've driven both of those). Yup, I'm a Saturn fan now. Sorry folks. Still like the other GM stuff, but Opel's done it homework here. Now if they could just get the word out! (and the prices down)

Yum, who doesn't like pizza? I like to make my own: preheat oven to 425 2 "snack size" whole wheat tortillas extra virgin olive oil pizza sauce shredded "Italian blend" cheese peckeroni chopped green pepper sliced black olives sliced mushrooms stack your two tortillas on a pizza pan and brush both sides with olive oil (tortillas make a delicious, thin, crispy crust) pizza sauce to taste top with cheese strategically place your peckeronis around the pizza green pepper pieces to taste sliced black olives to taste sliced shrooms to taste stick it in the oven @ 425 until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly, about 8 minutes if oven is preheat…

remember I am not a huge RWD fan but I thought this would be a fun discussion. What FWD cars now we reap the biggest sales and image benefits had the car been designed with RWD? The rule is the car would have the same powertrains (engine and tranny) as offered now. Styling would remain the same, inside and out. The only change is the drive wheels! You can even do a top 10 list if you like! GO PANTHER!

If you were offered a 2005 bottom-of-the-rung compact vehicle with 10k miles in your price range would you be stupid to continue to look at an 8 year older vehicle with not nearly as low of mileage? Now, the first vehicle is pretty far from what you're looking for. The only option it has is for an automatic transmission, which is an option better left unchecked in your opinion. Crank windows, not a power amenity to be found, and its about as exciting as watching water flow by. It does have a good engine, even if the exhaust note has your Hoover vacuum confused. It doesn't really have any bad reputation, it's mostly average. The second vehicle is what you've been look…

Damnnn it's hot over here! My arms/chest are sooo sunburnt beyond belief.. Holy $h!. Anyway, it's going alright.. thanks for asking (I know none of you did. haha) I'll be back home by Saturday night. Nice thing though was to sign on and not only see my "Updated: Cien" posting as the featured design, but I also noted my American Choppin' Comp win.. not a hard one to get, but w00t (warn me now, Fly ). So, I'm just checkin' in on some of the news and views from the cheers and gears. 'Bout time to check out now.. 'til next time. PS Hopefully Croc won't be pissed at me for writing this. At least I didn't go off on a random tangent about how life's getting…

...that might surprise others. As a kid, I remember feeling that interest in music was a "one genre only" type of thing because so many people I knew were either anti-rock or anti-country ... and didn't really have much of a "crossover" experience. But, in the last few years or so, more and more people tend to have an eclectic taste in music, myself included. I can't stand to leave the radio station on one station all the time; too much music is out there (old and new) that I like and want to be hearing.... This is because my musical interests have grown ten fold (or so it seems) over the last few years, with "exposure" to all types of music, more than just country …

Eventually, I have quite a story to tell, but in the meantime...I have an opinion question for you guys. A lot of you may put 2 and 2 together, from the question and choices , but I digress. If you were buying a new '09 Malibu right now, and had already picked colors (White/Cashmere...don't need help there, so don't bother), but were between 2 models, which would you prefer and why? If it makes any difference, say if you were coming from a current Epsilon 3.5L/4-speed car and enjoy the combo of power & economy it has, and could take more of either, and have narrowed your choice to the following 2 cars. #1: 2009 Malibu 2LT with V6 package, premium mats, power pa…

I thought about this over the weekend, wondering how many times I've driven it, since it occurred to me I knew just about all the exit numbers and the names that go with them. It would be I-5 between Portland OR and Seattle WA (173 miles). My parents live in the former and I have lived in the latter for 3 - 1/2 years. That's worth about 70 trips right there. Then about 50 or so when I lived in Portland and went up to Seattle for the hell of it. Then another 30 when I have lived in other places, went to see my parents and roadtripped to "the Emerald City" (Seattle's nickname) or continued on to Vancouver BC Canada. That's about 52,000 miles driven on that route al…

Motley Fool Is Ford Just Junk? Thursday August 24, 3:51 pm ET By Rich Smith Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Last year, one of the major headlines in the automaking world was that No. 2 U.S. seller Ford (NYSE: F - News) had its credit rating cut to "junk." This July, the firm lost its second-place slot in U.S. auto sales to Toyota (NYSE: TM - News). Earlier this month, with car buyers apparently agreeing that its cars are as junky as its credit, Ford again took the headlines when it announced dramatic production cuts. ADVERTISEMENT And today, the company detailed another plan designed to clear out unsold inventory and boost market share in one fell swoop --…

Well this past weekend I had a chance to go to the 2009 Greater Milwaukee Autoshow and a few things struck me. The smallish Toyota display very few people in it, even in what I believe to be a hot-bed of Toyota products. The people browsing the Toyota display struck me as "red-necks" that kind you find driving beat up Ford pick-ups and rusted Pontiac Firebirds you know? The things I heard coming from people browsing Toyota's weren't nearly as positive as what I expected, and also there were no turn-tables and an ugly Venza, and Tundra were the only vehicles that really sparked any intrest amoung the crowd. (I went last Friday after-noon from around 1-5pm) As for the Chevr…

C&D is just making these too easy, and this one I think is a lot of fun. They just did a test of the Evo Final Edition, the send off for the legendary Evo. Here's the story- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2015-mitsubishi-lancer-evolution-final-edition-test-review- for those interested. Base price and as-tested were the same at $38,805. So, as always, you have within 10% of that price in either direction to play with. You MUST spend at least $34,925, but no more than $42,685. Since the Evo is a pretty focused sport model, I'll allow a little deviation from the normal rules and let 2 door sport coupes be fair game here, AS LONG AS THEY ARE STREETABLE. That said…
