Hey guys, I know I should probably add this to my Long-term project thread, but this is rather profound to me. I believe I have found my project car. Now I must wait until I come up with the 1,000 required to procure such vehicle. Turns out there's a little abandoned house down the road from my grandparents and parents houses. Sitting in the backyard happens to be 1 1963, possibly 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix. The car is red in color with a white interior (don't ask my how I found this out considering the "no trespassing" signs up). There is rust along the rear window sill, but it doesn't appear to be rust-through. I heard through a friend of a friend, whom is also i…

It's ergonomics are superb and the build quality and materials used are very nice. It has rubber inserts for your thumb to rest, the primary buttons are a one piece design, and the other buttons are nicely finished. Then there's the scroller, which is quite amazing. It's made out of alloy and not plastic with rubber grip in the center. It features what Logitech calls SmartShift technology, where the mouse can switch between from normal scrolling to nearly frictionless scrol…

test drove an 08 Magnum again yesterday and remembered why i like them as much as I do. I'm getting sick of driving in tall cars and want something low slung again. And the utility, yeah. The way the clamshell hatch opens, perfect for getting to your cargo. With the 08 interior updates in tan, a livable interior! Not a vessel of death! And just when i might like it, they kill it. Good values on the lot, BTW. Very affordable. Really also makes a good case for the cool wagons like the CTS wagon and G8 wagon.

Anyways, as I alluded to in that post, I ended up relocating to Charleston, SC after exhausting my options around Detroit. For those who remember the '70s, am I crazy or has modern processes destroyed the fish stick. In the '70s, fish sticks were crispy and easy to cook... my mother made fantastic fish sticks and we had them in abundance, so they must have been cheap. In fact, I think my mother cooked them in the microwave and they still came out great. I never seem to find decent fish sticks... they never get crispy... they go from soggy to charcoal. The BLS releases their state-by-state employment stats today. They release at around this time every month. The news is that 36 states posted unemployment drops and 8 states posted increases. It's going in the right direction. California is STILL over 12%. Here's the link: BLS Labor U.E. by state I interviewed for a different job on Dec. 3, was interviewed again on Dec. 8 and then found out on Dec. 14 that I didn't get it. It took me about 1 hour to get over it. I thought about how geeky and uptight those present at the second interview were, that it may not have been a good long-term fit. It may take a little bit, but things ought to get better.

I cannot believe how big compacts have gotten today. They are now bigger than a car that was inbetween midsize and compact. Just look. My grandma's Cobalt is bigger than my Grand Am. Not that this is a bad thing, but if I want a compact, I want a compact. Not some vehicle that could be considered a midsize 10 years ago. Castro suggested during a nationally televised address on Easter Sunday that as many as 1 million Cuban workers — about one in five — may be redundant. So tonight I was walking back to my apartment/dorm with my friends and we were all drunk, and while we were walking I noticed how much better cars look when you're drunk. First, a '95 or so Camaro, which looked really low and sleek. I was like "holy $h! that Camaro looks awesome," then we went past a G6 coupe that looked freaking amazing. It looked like it was some super-sleek concept car or something. Yeah, that's my rant for the night. I'm still "under the influence" right now, but I'm basically sober.

http://www.gizmag.com/go/6245/ October 1, 2006 Researchers at the ETH Chair for Power Electronics have developed an electrical generator that spins at a world record 500,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and scientists are hopeful they can achieve twice this speed to touch the magical million rpm. The matchbox-sized motor generates the equivalent of 100 watts, including the power electronics interface, and has an efficiency of close to 95 percent. Powered by a gas turbine, one tankful of fuel drives the generator for about 10 hours at peak 100 watt performance. These ultra small gas turbines could replace conventional batteries as a mobile power source and have a range …

I also reccommend muting the audio in the video above, bringing up YouTube again in a new window or tab, and playing Benny Hill's theme song just for a little added effect. Notable highlights from the video include a mid-90s Chevrolet Cavalier that does a three-sixty degree spin without hitting anything, a dude stupidly trying to haul ass in his Dodge Dakota, and how both a Trailblazer SS and a Crown Victoria …

Sold the Dodge yesterday. The new owner flew in from California and is currently driving the car all the way across the country to get it home! Got a call today from him - they had made it as far as Dayton Ohio at mid-day, and hope to be in Kansas tonight.

  73. Well, I’ve had a busy last few weeks and you’ve probably noticed I haven’t been posting new news or regular commentary around here. Let’s get to the big news first. As of May 22nd, 2012 I am officially a Journalism major with an undetermined minor concentration. That means, in due time, all of the Moorish creases in my writing will be ironed out and the burrs filed down. It also means I’ll be an intern at some newspaper or magazine, possibly even a television station within two years time — that’s a requirement to graduate. It’s been unnecessarily difficult getting to this point and it’s required a lot of sacrifice, so hopefully it’ll be worth it. Also, a few days pri…

I've been thinking lately, It'd be cool to see a page full of face pics. The object would be to pick two faces, overlay them, and let the computer blend them together to see what a "kid" would look like from those two people. Is there such a site?

  76. H3 'Monster HUMMER' Completes Landmark Run at Dakar For the unfamilar, the Dakar Rally is not so much a rally as it is an endurance race that traditionally originated in Paris and ended in Dakar, Senegal over some of the most unforgiving terrain in the world. Recently, the starting locale has varied, but has mostly originated in continental Europe. There are three classes of competition - Motorbike, truck (large offroad vehicles), and car. Perennial leaders like the Mitsubishi Pajero, Land Rover, and Mercedes G-Wagen compete in the car class. Likewise, the HUMMER H3 competed alongside. The Dakar Rally is comprised of fifteen individual stages. Robby Gordon - with h…

I think we had one of these before but I was just wondering if theres some druggies in here. Being a Former one I find it funny when people talk about the Sticky Icky and such. Personally I come to find out there are more drug takers than I thought. If you care to go into to detail or bitch me out I personally don't mind. I now know how dumb I was. But for a short list Who hasn't done it The Reefer. Heroin Crack/Cocaine (If you wanna get down, down on the ground, Cocaine) (The Cadillac of Drugs) LSD (Trippy) Acid The First Of the Designer Drugs Don't know what they were called. Well, it's getting to be that time of the year again! As many of you know, the Dream Cruise is scheduled for August 18th. Just wanted to see if anyone that isn't local is planning on attending. Or if you are local, when you will be down there, since chances are you wont just be there on one day. Some people have probably already seen this... http://www.detroitnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...UTO05/708040377 Mightymouse and I will probably be spending time around 12 1/2 mile and maybe a little time up in Pontiac. So if you think you will be in the area, let us know! Its always nice to be able to put faces to names!

So Thursday I came home from class...uneventful. A few hours later i needed to go run some errands...so I went to my car and got ready to leave. Turned the key and...nothing. The lights flickered and that was it. A "wtf" had occurred. So I went and got the Shadow to jump it. Started right up, but as soon as I took the jumpers off the car stalled. I was like "well, $h!" Now, the Prizm is still out of action,so the only car left is the Shadow. It's too late in the day to take it to the mechanic so the Intrepid had to sit in front of the house, dead. All I can say is that I'm lucky it decided to quit in front of the house and not say, at school. Friday I t…

I think there is a lot of talking and overreacting going on around the net about CAFE killing this and CAFE killing that. It seems that a lot of executives might be playing to politics. If this is the agreement we got, then it sounds pretty positive and pretty attainable. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...0621/1014/rss13 Maybe I'm remiss, but I just don't see why everyone is so upset at this point. We can continue to engineer our way to this goal, that is, *IF* it isn't revised in the first place (which by the wording of the article, sounds like it might happen down the road) A FEW NOTES: 1) Don't even bring up the oil at $100/barrel crap, because 1)…

Lets try this again, but we'll start with my counter-point to the points that started the other (now locked) thread. I used 1400+ texts last month, compared to less than 6 hours of talk time. Texting is great for short questions that have short answers. I text several of my co-workers because they always have their cell phones, and their not always at their desks. My ex and I text in regards to our son and when he's going to be where and with whom. I hate phone calls where one person needs a small piece of information because they always end up dragging on longer than they should. My fiancee and I send each other random dirty/incredibly stupid texts throughout the …

I notice on http://www.nadaguides.com/ a link under Car Shopping for a Free VIN Check. For one it is not really free. The link will take you to http://www.autocheck.com/consumers/gateway...&siteID=359 Autocheck claims to be better and less expensive as compared to Carfax. Out of curiosity I tried my Silverado and my wife's MPV. It claims 4 records for my Silverado and 7 record on our MPV. I didn't pay for their so called free VIN check. Now my Silverado was in an accident on the 21st which would seem to be too soon for a report. I wouldn't expect it on a report until the dollar figure and repairs are completed. What I find really odd is the only records cou…
