By George Kiriyama NBCBayArea.com updated 35 minutes ago On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population. Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office. "They said we…

Well after staying in Rehoboth, DE for 4 days, I now want a place of my own down there. And after seeing so many awesome cars in Ocean City, I now want an old car of my own. Neither of which is bound to happen any time soon, being that I'm single and don't have a partner's income to supplement my own to buy extra luxuries like that. Why does life have to be so cruel?

We have a lot of distractions this time of year, but we are still seeing cars. Seen anything interesting on the road? Tonight I saw a last-gen LaCrosse in black coming up beside me on the freeway. Black is not my color for a car, but, on this LaCrosse, it really amped up the grille, the chrome moulding around the windows and on the handles, and mostly the rear taillamp assembly with the boomerang shaped lamps, which looks sharp to begin with.

How to destroy a 2003 Pontiac Vibe's Transmission in under 40,000 miles. Since its cold enough to freeze hell outside i decided to get the oil change at the dealer since i had a discount thing in the mail. Before i go I check every thing under the hood so i know if they are lying. I get to the Trans fluid pull the dip stick up its pure black and gritty with shinny metal flanks. "Oh $h!." Its still drivable some how. I ask them to check into it and 1,2 are toast and a couple of over gizmo's are toast. Also i have a Valve Ticking now from cylinder #4. I will get the estimate tomorrow. I guess driving it like you stole doesn't work in modern Econo car…

It seems the forum software has been getting a little FUBAR here lately. First, my account was mysteriously deleted recently. Second, my PM inbox has been acting up and deleting new messages after I respond to them, and there are no copies of the PMs I send in my sent items folder. Third, the site seems to "stall" at times; meaning it doesn't load after a long period of time then re-loads as soon as I hit refresh, although slowly. And now I've been seeing this little oddity ... Anyone been encountering anything strange on the forums here lately?

So my brother was on his way to school and someone ran a stop sign. The Maxx is likely totaled, and an estimate of $10-11K is probably what it is worth. We don't get the official word until Monday, however. So, what newer (preferably 2006 or newer) are available in the $10-12K price range? We have also looked at possibly just giving my brother my mom's Trailblazer and using the money from the Maxx to buy her a new car; we went test driving quite a few cars yesterday. Anyone have any ideas here? He doesn't want a truck or SUV unless he's forced to take the Trailblazer.

Phone companies. Going to the dogs. I swear. I just spent 52 minutes to an MCI call center in Argentina. I ingratiated myself somewhat by speaking entirely in Spanish, which they fully understood. This is my 6th call to MCI since May and a credit has been issued against the final bill, though 1 call back in May should have sufficed. In short: - called MCI to disconnect on May 17th - had to stay in my place 1 month longer, so I called on May 11th to cancel the disconnect...I thought that 6 days prior was enough time - was told that their "system" did not EASILY allow for order cancellations/adjustments once placed because of the fact that they don't own the lines, …

Last weekend (Labor Day weekend), I cleaned up the '87 MC LS on Saturday ... and then drove the older 4 MCs 120 miles each over the course of Sunday and Monday. Both Sunday and Monday, I "went exploring". Using my detailed Illinois atlas, I mapped out some routes that I had not taken before. And, you know what...it was like I was on a road trip! Lots of cool roads (with some awesome views) in this area to travel along...and that is just in the area west of Elgin. Anyone else explored roads in or near your home town area? Hey y'all. I just got out of the theater after seeing Ghost Rider. I have to say that the movie was definitely worth the money I laid down for it. Followed the comic series quite well and really was cast pretty well. I can't really go into the whole story of the Ghost Rider without giving away parts of the movie. All I have to say is that its worth it and really good. I enjoyed the world out of it (then again, that might have also been becuase it was just ME that went to the theater, no family attached). There were also the previews for Fantastic 4 II: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Spidey 3, both of which looked pretty good indeed. Anyway, has anyone else seen it…

I've got a tree in my backyard that I absolutely hate. Its a crabapple tree and I want it to die a slow, painful, torturous death. But my dad likes it and is more than willing to make a spot in his yard for it. Problem is, its pretty mature, at least 11 years old, around 6 feet tall. Is there any way to get it out without killing it?

Well, a couple weeks ago there wasn't much work to do at work, so I got off early a couple days... as a result, I decided to detail the Goat, which was a bit dirty. In all, it took about 6 hours if I remember correctly, and I didn't even touch the interior. Washed it, clayed it, washed it again, and then waxed it with some great 3M wax (some of the best out there). After waxing the body, I waxed the wheels and shined the tires. The results:

I threw together this collage to show a long-running & widespread practice for a number of decades. You have your Chevys, Fords, Dodges, Internationals, Studebakers & Jeeps commonly doing the same thing on multiple truck lines : painting grilles (and sometimes also bumpers & headlight bezels) white versus the higher trim's chrome pieces. Looking back, it's interesting to me that it was pretty much universal. White is usually the cheapest paint, but in my opinion; it looks a lot better than unpainted black plastic. Wonder how a 'stripper' trim modern truck would look done up in a similar manner?

My SKY image came through yesterday!!! I go to the dealership on Saturday to write up the paperwork and put a deposit down, although the sales manager has already put it into the system with the options I want. I was working a late yesterday (actually, almost always do) and I get an e-mail from the manager saying that my image arrived, he put in my options, and I can now officially say that I have ordered my '07 SKY. The only downside is that I wanted the black & red two-toned leather interior to go with the Silver Graphite exterior. There's a constraint on that interior, so I told him to go ahead and change the interior to the all black leather interior. Hope…

There could be a whole bit of research on this topic that would be strictly region-based; however, in our area, this holiday used to be embraced by every house in the neighborhood. Now, I took my own kids in the buggy for their first candy-beggar experience, only to be left feeling like somebody stole the baby-Jesus from the local nativity scene and asking, "What the hell is wrong with people these days?" When I was a kid, a small army of us would trek a 5 mile loop before we'd get home, unload our loot, then have my parents drop us off another 10 miles away in another community so we could circle their area. Every single house had some great spirit with their decorati…

I decided that I want Satellite Radio. I spend a lot of time on the road or in the field, so I figure that it would be a wise investment in my future entertainment. My Suburban is XM ready so I could add that easily, and my Pioneer deck in my Impala could have either tuner and antenna added to it for about 50 bucks on ebay and an hour's worth of tinkering around in the car. You can have 2 tuners for 20 bucks a month with either service, so I would probably have one dedicated system in one of the vehicles. If I were to go with Sirius I would put a dedicated tuner in my Impala and then have a Mobile unit in my Suburban that I could take out on the lake in the summer, in…

Last night I went to the Kernels ball game in Cedar Rapids that was sponsored by my company (plus all the free food and beer you can consume). Well, I ended up locking my keys in the car and didn't realize it until the game was over at 10:30 at night. I went to customer services and they gave me the number of a locksmith and also a number for the Cedar Rapids Police. I tried the police first because one of the guys said they have tools on hand to unlock cars, but the dispatcher said they had nothing like that (flat out lie....probably were too lazy to come out there). I just looked at the exchange rates this morning. It's sick. Bad for travel and bad for the balance of trade. The Euro has broken the $ 1.40 mark...meaning you need that much in dollars to buy ONE Euro....theoretically, upon its introduction, is that it was to be 1:1 given that there is so much activity between the US and the EU. I've decided to cut back on trips to Europe anyway after I figured out how much less stressful it is to vacation in the US and Canada. That being said, the US and Canadian dollar are TIED. Unbelievable. When I was living in Seattle from 97-00, the US dollar could buy 1.52 Canadian dollars (granted that was horrible for our Canuck friends).…

Absolutely kills the RX in styling. I didn't really like the way the SRX looked on the outside at first, but the more I see it, the more I like it. Just one of those cars you need to see in person.

When it comes to global warming, hamburgers are the Hummers of food, scientists say. Simply switching from steak to salad could cut as much carbon as leaving the car at home a couple days a week. That's because beef is such an incredibly inefficient food to produce and cows release so much harmful methane into the atmosphere, said Nathan Pelletier of Dalhousie University in Canada. Pelletier is one of a growing number of scientists studying the environmental costs of food from field to plate. By looking at everything from how much grain a cow eats before it is ready for slaughter to the emissions released by manure, they are getting a clearer idea of the true …

I went to see the movie Click this weekend. It was a very good movie but it wasn't too much of a comedy. This was the most serious part I have seen Adam Sandler play in a movie. The first bit is funny but then the movie starts to get really serious. It actually makes you realize life better. It gives a good message and Christopher Walken plays a good part as well. I would say this is a must see movie. The Cadillac Sixteen concept even makes an appearance in the movie. Lucky Adam Sandler. He got to drive it, lol.

1990 Corvette I saw a C4 yesterday, somehow they keep getting more appealing. I would honestly take a C4 over a C5, at least if we're talking coupes.

Heard on the radio at 3:30am... (I think it was a commercial with Ted Bruski) ---- The chicken is involved in your breakfast, but the pig... well the pig is commited! BE THE PIG!!! ---- I've rabbel-roused at UPS & got the entire Marlboro Center Chanting: BE THE PIG! I love being a trouble maker... I think next weeks' theme at UPS, will be DI-DI-MAO! I'll have to motivate all my pirate & serial-killer co-workers to chant that as we load packages as if on crack & three gallons of caffeene. (DI-DI-MAO -sp?) means "hurry up!" in vietnamese... Watch the Deer Hunter if you're "lost", there's a gorgeous shot of the nose of a…

My mom is way over due for a newish car. She loves her current car (a 1994 Isuzu Rodeo) to death, but the thing is starting to fall apart. To the point where it would make more finantial sense to buy a newer car. So we went dealer hopping today. She really didn't say she liked anything in particular. Just walked around and was like "hmm" every so once an a while. She isn't picky about brands (mostly because she is clueless when it comes to cars), although my dad is another story. He has a strong distaste for Korean cars, and American cars. I try to tell him that they we're DiamlerChryslers that we owned (1993 Voyager and 2001 Dakota) but he doesn't listen. Wh…

...untill the Annual Halloween Howler Enduro Race at Star Speedway in Epping, NH. I need to get my Ass in gear and get a car. This shows a typical Enduro race, a few dozen cars. Now imagine 300-350 cars on a 1/4 mile oval! Pure Insanity. Plus you get to see FWD shitboxes get a one way ticket to the salvage yard.

medical site Provided by: Canadian Press Written by: Alexa Olesen, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS BEIJING - U.S.-based toy giant Mattel Inc. issued an extraordinary apology to China on Friday over the recall of Chinese-made toys, taking the blame for design flaws and saying it had recalled more lead-tainted toys than justified. The gesture by Thomas Debrowski, Mattel's executive vice-president for worldwide operations, came in a meeting with Chinese product safety chief Li Changjiang, at which Li upbraided the company for maintaining weak safety controls. "Our reputation has been damaged lately by these recalls," Debrowski told Li in a meeting at Li's office at which reporte…

So I'm coming back from the mines last night at 1h30 in the morning. I press open the garage door opener, turn the car into the garage, think "this is gonna be tight" (the car is not the MINI but an old VW Passat company car) and suddenly this scratching sound....... rear left fender scratched at the wheel well area... an expensive trip this will be, and what pisses me off is that it's the same f@#king turn I do every single day when I get home...

[From Engadget.] Capping literally years of speculation on perhaps the most intensely followed unconfirmed product in Apple's history -- and that's saying a lot -- the iPhone has been announced today. Yeah, we said it: "iPhone," the name the entire free world had all but unanimously christened it from the time it'd been nothing more than a twinkle in Stevie J's eye (comments, Cisco?). Sweet, glorious specs of the 11.6 millimeter device (that's frickin' thin, by the way) include a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen display with multi-touch support and a proximity sensor to turn off the sensor when it's close to your face, 2 megapixel cam, 4GB or 8 GB of storage, Bluetooth w…

Since I purchased the Cadillac last week, I've been hearing/seeing ads for extended warranties and of course there's always the AAA services being advertised. With the Caddy having no warranty, I'm definitely interested in getting some protection for the car, especially since it will be my daily-driver starting in November and want to protect my family when we're on the road. Should I look into an extended warranty plan, and if yes, with what company? Should I look into AAA coverage too? Since this is the first vehicle I have without any owner protection (I've been leasing my vehicles for 10 years now, so I've never paid attention to any services due to the manufactur…

Last night I went to bed pretty excited, knowing I'd be getting up somewhat early to go get my GTO. So I wake up at 7:30, have breakfast, eat, etc., then wait around for a while for my mom to get ready. My dad took my brother to school (I had finals this week so no school today) and was at work waiting for us to come pick him up. Anyways, the dealership is about an hour away and we get there at about 9:45. We sign all the papers and whatnot, and then we were looking into extended warranties, and we bought one, but the guy messed up and told us it was 6 days from today when it was actually 6 days from the first sale date. He caught his mistake before he had us sign the pap…

Tomorrow I get to pick my birthday present...a brand spanking new Gateway labtop.. Can't wait! Not looking foward to Vista though.... Usually I tell the wife not to get me stuff for my birthday, but this year she dragged my butt to the store (almost literally ) I needed one of these things anyway, since I was planning to head back to school soon. I was planning to borrow one, but this works out better... Looks cool too...I'm not even sure what I want to do with it first....

So last year.. just over a year ago my computer crashed and we never found out why, we just replaced it a few months later. Well, the other day this computer I'm on (Dell Dimension 5100) decided to not load up at all so I thought it was broken. Well, yeah, my mom remembered my grandma telling her something about a battery in the computer. So, my mom's checking out the computer, replaces this stupid battery, and it works again. Brilliant! Anyway, this is the good part.. For some dumb reason, we kept my old computer around in the basement. As luck would have it, my mom thought to replace its stupid battery today and.. bam!.. it works. So now I have every last Photoshop ch…

1988 BMW Dealership Time capsule For some twisted reason we're all attracted to the mysterious allure of an abandoned building. In Oakville, Ontario there stands a building that for a petrol head trumps even the eeriest of places. At only a stones throw away from our dealership in Ajax, Ontario we're surprised we haven't heard about this place before. The story goes as follows. In 1988 the dealer, located on Royal Windsor Drive and operating under the name "Citation Motors", had his concession license revoked due to unknown reasons. They then moved to Toronto under the name "Downtown BMW" which in 2002 closed up shop. The owner, apparently a well-of…

This morning my father passed away rather suddenly. He was 64. Last Friday he had a massive heart attack. His heart stopped beating for 21 minutes before the paramedics revived him. Unfortunately, his brain activity was minimal. We pulled the ventilator on Sunday, and he died early this morning. As tragic as this is, its a realization that I should have told him I loved him more. I never got to thank him for instilling in me my love for cars, the outdoors, and life. I also realize that I am now the eldest in the family and the next to go. I realize that grandfatherhood is coming sooner than I would like. I have always felt young, but I realize that its only a …

Aside from sitting on C&G what are your hobbies? I have 2 main hobbies... Winter Hobby, snowmobiling. Used to do more ice drag racing but backed away from that to put some cash toward hobby #2 ('68 Camaro PT build). Here was my Pro-Stock 1000 that I built a couple years back. 1000cc 3 cyl 255hp. Ran 1/8 mile (660 feet) on ice in 5.5 at 122 mph. Not the fastest but respectable at the time. Trail sled '07 Polaris 700. Adding some NOS to it for this coming season. The kit is currently on the bench. 140 hp stock, 150 with pipe and mild upgrades. NOS will be an added 30-40hp shot. video Hobby #2... '68 Camaro Pro-Touring project. Stil…

Last night I had a deusey of a dream. It all came back to me in the shower this morning. I was naked and walking, when I came upon a car dealership. It was made up of 3 lots, each with a small sales office. The cars were all non-descript, of different brands and model years, but it was a new car dealership (seemingly in decline). I entered one of the buildings. No one cared or acknowledged I was naked, and I was not embarrassed at all. It was dark, with a 1970's, dark brown pleather and chrome decor. I looked at racks of brochures, and left. Groups of cars were parked in patterns randomly on the lots, I was just browsing, when I came upon something that piqued m…

I've been looking at Google maps' Street View the last hour or two... this is INSANE! You can go to Australia, Spain, etc and see streets and everything! If you're lost... go to Google Maps, then think of somewhere to go (type in Detroit or something). Look at the regular map, then on the left (on top of the zoom scroller) is a little man you can click and drag to the street. Then the world is yours and you can look at many, many places. It's nuts!

My granddad has had stage 4 cancer in his lungs and lymph nodes. This morning, hospice was to come and begin taking care of him. His wife told him that hospice was on their way. He immediately grabbed his 357 Magnum, went into the backyard behind his shed and shot himself in the head. He died instantly. He was 89. I will be away for a few days taking care of business. I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on.

Well guys, I've thought about it. And quite frankly I'm tired of changing the oil in the driveway and doing brake jobs and such on the back parking pad. I'm building a shop! I'm thinking 40ftx40ft devided down the middle to give me two 20ftx40ft bays. In one bay, I'm going to put a 12,000-lb two post lift, in bay two flat floor. Air and electrical outlets in both bays, full plumbing and heating and air. I'm going to put work benches along the exterior and joining walls in both bays. In bay 2, I'm going to also put welding equipment (probably a MiG/TiG and a stick welder) along with my oxy-acetelene torches and bottles. Both bays will have overhead heavy winches to…

I hi-jacked my teens X Box One who is gone for three weeks, because I want to play Forza til my eyeballs bleed. But, I am frustrated. I purchased the Fast & Furious pack to drive a couple sweet old mopars, but I honestly don't know where or how to find them. They are not on in My Car list. The only care I can find there is my default. This is the strangest game. I just drive all around trying to score lame points. I just want race and don't know how. I must have rented the wrong game. Sucks so far, but looks great on my new 4K big screen. Any tips out there. Any good sites anyone can suggest. I don't mind cheats either, thankie
