We'll be fighting in the streets With our children at our feet And the morals that they worship will be gone And the men who spurred us on Sit in judgement of all wrong They decide and the shotgun sings the song I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around me Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again The change, it had to come We knew it all along We were liberated from the foe, that's all And the world looks just the same And history ain't changed 'Cause the banners, they all flown in the next war I'l…

So, Until Yesterday, the Cavalier looked like this, not having been washed in ~2 Years: So I cleaned Her Up a bit, and broke out the Armor-All, Vacuum Cleaner, and Steam Cleaner and fixed up the interior... prolly now one of the nicest looking 1997 Cavaliers now (at least inside) I got another surprise, after the wash, I realized how dingy those plastic covers that were put on when we bought the car in 1997 were getting... I figured I'd clean them off because they were not giving me enough light during the night... well that's where the surprise happened. I took them off and soaked them in the sink, windexed them, and went back out to the car only to witness how …

I am very careful in the presence of automotive journalists to not describe myself as such. I feel it is somewhat disrespectful to those who do this job as their main career when I do it as more of a hobby that barely makes enough money to cover costs. There is a running joke amongst the automotive journalist crowd that any car, no matter what it is, could be made better if it was made available in a wagon, with all-wheel-drive, a diesel, and a manual transmission... all in one package. This week, my rental car was a new VW Passat. Driving between Pittsburgh and Columbus, I glanced down at the computer generated average mpg... I was pulling about 37mpg. The rest of t…

Tonight my friend called me up asking me some car advice. He drives a black 2002 Taurus SES with 65K miles and was offered a great deal on an '04 LeSabre Custom. The LeSabre only has 25K miles and is excellent shape; my honest opinion with him was that if you can get past the stigma these cars had, you'll be getting a larger, more powerful car with an excellent track record for reliability. I told him about the 3800 getting about 29 mpg on the highway, which is more than his Taurus gets. He's also a pretty tall guy (6'9"), and the Taurus is a little cramped for him. When he first called saying he was looking at trading in for a different car, I never expected him to…

TV, radio, the movies ... talk about "Southern Hospitality" and things like "Sweet Home Alabama". For just over a week, I experienced this "Southern Hospitality" phenomenon. And, yes, it is VERY true! I can hardly believe my 2007 road trip is over.... The wintry weather mix (mainly ice/snow) that greeted me when I returned Saturday, December 1, was NOT the way to welcome me back home; though, it was nice to see many people at our annual Christmas Open House that evening. As for the trip itself, I met a lot of great people along the way, saw some "old friends", and missed meeting a number of people as well. I had a blast ... and want to go back on the road ASAP! …

Well, the results looked good. After the beating with the cane I took, there are no serious issues (or broken bone, like I thought). I have some major bruising on the lower part of my back...which should heal in 3-4 months... The part that sucks is that I am no allowed to drive far distances for a while.....so there goes my trip to IL to meet knightfan and other people....that sucks... Sorry, KF-I really wanted to go too.... I had the Cav all ready to go...even bought my little guy an extra pillow for the trip..... *sigh* Well, maybe people can come and visit me.... :AH-HA_wink:

Pontiac has long used racing sourced names since the '50s and through today. However, they seem to be abandoning it with the only names left being GTO and Grand Prix, both of which have questionable futures. Of course, Pontiac could return to using them, but could they possibly adopt new ones? Ones Pontiac has used... Grand Am Grand Prix GTO Bonneville Trans Am LeMans Formula GT Ones used by other manufacturers... Monte Carlo Daytona Sebring Monaco Baja IROC Grand Sport Grand National But are there still ones that could be possibly used? I've had no luck in searching... Any suggestions/ideas? After a week of above average temperatures and a high of near 70 () yesterday, I'm now under a Winter Storm Warning. Crazy. It's Currently 39 degrees and raining lightly. The rain is forecast to mix with and change to snow overnight and continue throughout all of Friday and Friday night. The snowfall totals grow higher everytime I check the forecast. I was shocked to see a Winter Storm Watch up for my area when I woke up this morning. It really took me by surprise. I'm hearing 8 to 14" when all is said and done. The amount of sand and salt local road crews have used this year is insane. Trucks are already spreading salt in my neighborhood, even with light rai…

It starts tomorrow and runs thru Sunday......10-15 to 10-18. Anaheim Convention Center. I'll be there tomorrow evening......Thursday..... I know it's not a big show like L.A., but it's still a decent show.....and for us CA guys, it's the first one of the season....and usually has some cool things going on (like a Fiesta ride-and-drive) even though it's a smaller show, it's right in the heart of SoCal.....

Friday evening, I went to the show to check out some new metal and see people's impressions. Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked- only about 1.5 hours. Here are some of my takes from it- Starting with my own brand, VW's display was a joke. The cars looked great, and they had good variety of trims, but there were some glaring omissions. There was no Golf R on display. No Atlas or Tiguan. I obviously didn't expect to see any concepts like the I.D.s or anything, but the Tiguan and Atlas have already been revealed in their production guise. Not displaying your two newest offerings in the hottest market segment, at a show that is taking…

I'm selling a car and a guy that called me is interested in a trade for a Caddy STS... I think it was a 97. I wasn't really planning a trade but I do like the STS and that would save me the hassle of going car hunting... What should I look for? I haven't seen it yet and I don't even know the miles so I don't have my hopes up for actually trading, but it does interest me. Like I said I love the STS... what problems are common in them? Where should I look to see if the guy actually took care of it or not?

I have seen a total of 3 GM ads since I've came back to the USA 9 days ago. The sad thing is, one was for the the Cadillac Escalade, the other was for the GMC Acadia, both these ads were on TV, the other add I saw was for the Pontiac G8, it was an internet ad. These are not the vehicles GM needs to be pushing in the days of 4 bucks a gallon gas, which is surely to go higher. They should be showing ads that show GM vehicles that get 30 mpg or more, once again GM shoots itself in the foot.

Just made my first purchase last week, and I'm really brand new to this eBay thing. I was the winning bid for some equipment 7 days ago, and of course had to wait until Wednesday for the PayPal transfer to clear (since the funds weren't aleready up). Of course the seller said he wouldn't ship until he received payment. I know it's Thanksgiving and all, but I'm getting really anxious about the whole thing. How long before I should report the item as not received and go to PayPal about getting the funds back?

Well, after my Mom had her car obliterated in a head-on collision (can the "curse" affect you family too?) she will need a new vehicle. And not being in the financial position to buy a new vehicle we decided to go used. Mom wants a Tahoe, specifically a Black Tahoe. It will still be quite a while before my Mom will be able to drive but my Dad an I are looking anyway, and we have noticed that there are hardly any used Tahoes out there. The few that are just aren't appealing or in a color my Mom doesn't like. Now I suppose we could go the GMC route and get here a Yukon, but she is pretty much set on a Tahoe. So I guess fuel milage concerns aren't really affecting anyone aro…

The above video is all the reminder you should ever need to pay close attention to the signs posted on bridges all over the country informing motorists of their height. We're not quite sure where exactly this particular span is located, but it's 11' 8" height is a good bit lower than what seems to be typical. For this minor little engineering oversight, at least a handful of large trucks have been morphed into instant convertibles. Let's just hope that some of these drivers placed a check in the box for the optional insurance when renting their moving trucks. Thanks for the tip, Stephen! null - Watch more free videos Autoblog

I am going to be starting a job soon and I have some money saved up so I may try to find a good Grand Am coupe for sale. I absolutely have loved Grand Ams, any generation and I have always wanted one as a first car. Pontiacs are great and I think I may rather get a Grand Am. Sporty looks, fair amount of power. I think I might try to find a 90s Grand Am coupe. I see plenty around but no body seems to be getting rid of any. They are beautiful cars nonetheless. I am scrapping all ideas except for a Grand Am, possibly a Sunfire, and some 3800 V6 vehicles. My dad has the idea of me getting a car with absolutely no rust. So I replaced it, put the carb back together, snotted it back onto the truck, got the adjustments back together, and cranked it up. It ran like a bloody top! It feels so wonderful to have my truck back in proper working order. It runs, purrs, roars, snorts, and well, I have to curse it every now and again, but it works GREAT! I'm going to be driving it to the local cruise in this Saturday night (by the way, also my birthday), so y'all wish me luck, I should have lots of pictures of the event, and of cou…

Today, I'm in the neighborhood and I swing by to see if I can talk to the owner and get a better idea of the car's condition. To keep things short, here's the data: It's a '72 Camaro - the typical early '70s dark brown with black stripes. My guess is, it's not a Z/28 or SS, but it has the split bumper Looks to be …

I never knew GM had so many brands between approx. 1929 and 1931. I have known about LaSalle and Oakland for a while, but I had never heard of Marquette or Viking and the reasons they came into existence. So as I understand it: Chevrolet (basic four cylinders, I6, some V8s) Pontiac-Oakland (Oakland the parent company, Pontiac introduced as the entry level brand for the division to fill the spread between Chevrolet and Oakland. Pontiac had a "light six" and shorter wheelbase, while Oakland had a six cylinder?, V8, and longer wheelbase) Oldsmobile-Viking (Viking slightly upmarket from Olds, both equipped with V8s...Viking was the shortest lived of all the brands) Mar…

Here's something to try, if you're looking for something a bit different in a weekend breakfast: Preheat oven to 375 Peel, core and slice two apples, your choice of variety (I used gala apples this a.m.) Place apple pieces in a baking dish Very lightly dust with flour (thickens the resulting juice so it clings to the apples to enhance flavor) Add a couple small pats of butter to stave off scorching and soften the sauce Sparingly sprinkle with brown sugar or honey (the apples are plenty sweet, just a little bit will be enough) Sprinkle with powdered ginger and cinnamon to taste Top it all off with a couple of tablespoons of real bacon bits …

I’m using one of my “my site, my rules” tokens to say: Fuck off 2020! If you haven’t done so recently, please take this post as a reminder to check your fire extinguishers, buy more to keep around the house, and check all of your smoke alarms. I had a house fire today and it all happened in under 3 minutes. I saved my house but I got 2nd degree burns on my hands and spent the morning in the ER. A stray broken match head ignited my shower curtain and destroyed my bathroom. Albert had a robe hanging in there and it refused to stay out even after multiple hits with a fire extinguisher. I managed to grab it and fling it into the tub and finally got…

We have the what irks you in a Co-Worker, now lwets try another exercise and see what irks all of us with our bosses or as I sometimes call them "authority figures". My main one is a boss who throws a temper tantrum like a 2 year old when things dont go their way. I have a few of them. They have gotten better with me since they know I dont do things to cause such behavior. If you cant handle the pressure of the job then maybe you shouldnt do it. Simple as that. A boss that cant seem to make a simple decision is another thing that annoys me. Everyone has had one of these. So lets have it.

I Think I May Finally Have A Car...

Well, I think I have finally found a car. A solid example of a 1980 Pontiac Trans Am. It definitly needs some attention and restoration, but for $3,500 it is a nice, rust-free example. I don't have any photos, but if I buy it I will have a few. The T/A has less than 100,000 miles, no rust, but needs some new trim, paint, and interior work. But it does run and will get me to and from school and work, which I will have by November. The engine is a 305, which I think - correct me if I'm wrong - is the incorrect motor for this car. I think the offer I'll put out there will be an even $2,500. The color? Oh, red. Yeah, no way in hell am I putting a CB rad…

Ok, so my new computer has a reccomended screen setting of 1680 x 1050 pixels, and most stuff look fine, except that some stuff (pics, smilies) appear slightly pixelated. I probably have to change the Internet settings somewhere, but if someone would tell me instead of me wasting my time looking, then I'd appreciate it.

Most of us no doubt have a collection of tools they use for their projects, be they automotive or otherwise. The question is: do you let them get dirty or do you try to keep them clean, and when they do get dirty to you clean them or not? I just bought a new tool, a Black and Decker Tri-Ratchet...which is awesome. I plan to keep it clean like all of my tools. I hate dirty tools, because then you get your hands dirty when you go to use a dirty tool, thereby getting other tools and anything else you touch dirty. I don't mind getting dirty, but I like my tools to look clean and new...maybe I'm just weird like that? My friend is the same way though. Neither of our fathers…

So, there was discussion on how GM didn't have a coupe ready for launch. Which makes me think. When was the last time GM launched a car with multiple body styles AT THE SAME TIME?

Just something I was pondering....just made me wonder if these forums existed, would that cause us to talk other things besides cars and being silly with each other...or really, more to the point, make C&G one-stop shopping... Hell, it may wake up a lot of lurkers.... Anyway, sound off...

Friday was the suckiest day of the summer. First off, my alarm clock didn't go off when it was supposed to, meaning that my mom came in very pissed off at me (I work at my parents' office, so that means she's my boss as well as my mom). Second, we ran out of my cereal, which meant that breakfast consisted of a very old, very dry Quaker oatmeal square. Third, it was hot-very hot and humid, and the air conditioner in the office decided to crap out on my side of the building-and only my side. But the worst part of the day was that my truck got sick-very, very sick. My dad usually drives it into work because he gets up before my mom and I do, so he gets his choice of vehicl…

Well, I purchased a used white '06 G6 w/2.4l (29k, $12,900) -- which is what I was most interested after my Malibu went to car heaven. Here's some observations/opinions on my '04 Malibu: 1. *Easily* the most boring car I've ever owned. I went from washing my vehicles 1 once (sometimes twice) a week to maybe once a month. The car was as uninspiring to look at as it was to drive. It was truly an appliance. 2. The Ecotec 2.2 gets stellar gas mileage. I routinely pulled 400-450 miles out of 13-13.5 gallons of gas. Factor in that roughly half of those miles are stop-and-go rush hour traffic and those numbers look even better. 3. The light-gray interior seemed like…

Okay, all you SoCal posters, I've taken up the challenge. I rented a Mustang convertible (wow!) in Vegas, drove to the Hoover Dam (well, I was a tourist!), then sped (where 80 mph is slow - God love Americans!) along highway 15 into L.A. to West Hollywood (no smart remarks, girls) where I spent 4 fabulous days cruising the streets of L.A. MY CONCLUSION: The more I travel around the world, the more I realize how much Toronto sucks. Expecting the worst, I found navigating the freeways and highways of L.A. to be a snap. Even a 7 a.m. truck roll-over on the eastbound hwy 10 could not stop our return trek to Vegas on Wednesday morning. Why? Because despite L.A…

How often DO we let the attitudes of others affect our mood? How many arguments/"flame wars" would be prevented if we stopped to THINK before we typed/posted or spoke? --- "The Law of the Garbage Truck." How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? The mark of a successful person is how quickly she can get back her focus on what's important. Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here's what happened.... I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a …

Since I purchased the Cadillac last week, I've been hearing/seeing ads for extended warranties and of course there's always the AAA services being advertised. With the Caddy having no warranty, I'm definitely interested in getting some protection for the car, especially since it will be my daily-driver starting in November and want to protect my family when we're on the road. Should I look into an extended warranty plan, and if yes, with what company? Should I look into AAA coverage too? Since this is the first vehicle I have without any owner protection (I've been leasing my vehicles for 10 years now, so I've never paid attention to any services due to the manufactur…

So, I go to visit my girlfriend after lunch today, and I see this (Yes, I had to circle around to get a better look)... Its facing westbound in an eastbound lane. I think one of the decorative rocks took out the rear axle. Maybe not. Regardless, someone got one hell of a nice start to the weekend. Sorry if the pic quality is meh; used my camera phone. Oh, and I don't remember if I've posted these before. If not, here are my "Dude, you just f**ked up your Hyundai" pics from a few months ago...

Amazing show at the Chesterbrook July Cruise Night. The highlight was a full custom '49 Olds Sedanette with insanely good workmanship. I'm not usually into these but it really was that good. Another car of note was a '37 Buick 8 Super that was an unrestored survivor with that patina that 68 loves so much. I think that there were 4 or 5 First gen Monte Carlos including one phantom SS complete with a Chevelle cowl induction hood molded into the original Monte hood ( fully Functional). Also there was a Nask Metropolitan with a GM v6, a '69 Caprice (unrestored) with 29k original miles, a '70 Nova SS with 21k original miles, a Plum Crazy Hemicuda, an Atomic Orange Zo6, a '41…

What's your favorite model that was a one and done? The rules are: One generation only with no major refreshes. Minor refreshes are allowed. An example of the maximum minor refresh would be something like the Cadillac Catera which got updates front and rear fascias and lights, but otherwise remained unchanged in looks. The Catera was a one generation model. No cheating with sub-models that are based off of some mainstream model (Typhoon, Syclone, GNX are examples) unless that mainstream model was also a One and Done. A nameplate that fits the One and Done criteria, but who's name had been used decades before and brought back will still count…

Who's packing ERs? Not the uninsured Reuters One in five people in the United States visit an emergency room every year, and most of them have health insurance of some kind, according to a U.S. government survey released on Wednesday. The survey contradicts a common perception that emergency rooms are packed with uninsured people and illegal immigrants. It also rejects some claims that people are using the emergency department for routine care -- just 10 percent of visits were for non-urgent causes. "In 2007, approximately one in five persons in the U.S. population had one or more emergency department visits in a 12-month period," the report from the National Center f…

Its October, that means playoff baseball. As much as I hate to admit it, the Cardinals look pretty good. But here is how I see it going: NLDS Cardinals over Padres in 3 (Peavy is done, Padres have no shot) Astros over Braves in 4 (Kyle Farnsworth blows a save or two, just like when he was a Cub) ALDS White Sox over Red Sox in 4 (I never thought I would say that, but the Chi Sox whooped up today) Angels over Yankees in 5 (This one will go the distance, the Angels are the better team) NLCS Astros over Cardinals in 7 (Look at that staff, Petitte has dominated in the second half) ALCS Angels over White Sox in 6 (Sorry, not Chi-towns year) World Series Astros over Angel…

* Hard to believe I've finished my 36 sessions of Cardiac Rehab for my 11/11/2011 open heart surgery; last session was 04/13/2012. I plan to return to the facility via their monthly fee, but I have to find a new job first. Wouldn't mind some other dreams/goals coming true, either...just sayin'. Some people have likened CR to watching paint dry, but not for me. It made me a bit more "lean'n'mean". More importantly, it was fun, thanks to the nursing staff & fellow rehabbers. Another spring means another weekend whipping out the trusty old Meguiar's clay and wax kit. I spent a good couple hours just getting rid of the little rust fallout spots that accumulated during the winter, and finished it all off with a couple coats of wax. Post your spiffed up rides if you have them.

online "swap meet" sites? I'd love a good forum where people can buy and sell used parts etc. I'm finding that ebay and craigslist don't even offer as much as the old print "tradin Times" sort of thing did. I think there is a place for something like this that isn't generic like ebay and craigslist.

Besides free makeup, liquor, clothes, watches, private jet discounts and motorcycle leases, the suite featured Chrysler, which offered stars the opportunity to select a car key at random.
