Well about two weeks ago a very reliable source told me some bad news... all department supervisors in my high school have submitted the name of the person with the lowest seniority currently employed (in my department, business education, that would be ME). While nothing official yet - school board election & budget approval don't take place until April in NJ - word has spread that there will not be enough money to fund both supplies and teachers for next year. My source told me this so I don't waste any time trying to find another teaching job (good luck I say). Then today after our faculty meeting we have a meeting with the local union president. She tells us t…

This one is classic...Clarkson is full of great quotes! "I've got my foot WELDED to the floor, absolutely welded to the floor!" "Look at it! And it gives you a headache! A hateful, hateful car." "The hell! Come on, 40!" .... "aww, COME ON! ...58...now I'm giving up...too much hard work." "Look what's coming now! NOO!! Well this is pathetic! this is an editorial from a mag subscription i have to Muscle Machines. i thought it was a good read and patiently waited for it to be available on the hemmings site so as not to have to type it up. so without further delay "A Lesson Learned" by Craig Fitzgerald. I was driving home from work the other night, listening to an interview from Boch Toyota, located down near my old home in Massachusetts. The subject, of course, was the recall of some three million Toyotas to fix an issue with the accelerator pedal that was causing the pedal to stick to the floor in some very rare cases. Two things came immediately to mind. The first was an issue I had with my 1989 F-150. It…

Sometimes I don't feel right talking general automotive discussion in The Lounge. Does it go in the kinda general part of The Other Guys? Is the general car discussion intended to be here? Or is it likely we should start a new sub-forum for general car discussion (topics that aren't specific to one brand or otherwise don't fit other forums, but don't fit the tone of the Lounge)? To me The Lounge seems more for social topics than anything automotive. Mods, Admins, other regular posters, what say you?

* ...Probably because I prefer NOT to think about "doomsday", despite the circumstances in which I find myself now. I suppose, though, this would've been one way to get back on the radio.... I'm trying to retain my positive/fighting outlook/attitude, but having to sell my cars at the start of the summer (i.e. cruising, gathering, road tripping) season is a bit much ... perhaps more so than having OHS. I can't imagine no longer owning cars that have been part of my life for so long now, let alone not being part of many MC forums. It's been quite a ride (pun intended) meeting many people, attending shows/gatherings/cruises, etc. Looking through my road trip pics &am…

Well, here I am packing for tomorrow afternoon's flight up to PDX. I will stick around Friday night and all of Monday, the 25th, before flying out. Sat and Sun will probably be a jaunt to Seattle, overnighting up there. I can only stay near my Mom for very limited doses as she is both a pain-in-the-ass and stupid...sorry. (I was told, "I hope you bring up some nice clothes and go to Mass on Christmas day." ) I can't believe that someone who can't do ANYTHING would need to instruct me...I have no problem with the Mass part, as I will probably find a parish to duck into and go to church, but the apparel part is out of control. At any rate, how will you be spending th…

As a kid or young adult, I didn't have the nerve to do this. Now I do, though I use it sparingly. Our office/firm just lost a bunch of people after the new year. Some picked up their year end bonuses and went to new companies or started their own. When the job market (in a field or in an area) is short on help, job hopping goes up and loyalty goes down. I handle my own client projects and now I "inherited" a few more from the departees. Everybody has been just awesome in understanding and is allowing us more time to complete projects. Except one client who is in the "inherited" batch. In 6 days of working with him (and I jumped right to it to servicing his project)…

It's a Robin. Oh... Fun. More random pictures... That's the view of my house from the top of my tree, my crowded driveway earlier today, my Grand Am complete with hanging exhaust, and my eyes. Don't ask. Also, I went dealer hopping tonight. Looked at the new Acadia up close for the first time. It's quite nice. The interior design looks better than it does in pics, and it looked pretty good in pics. I like it. Got to look a Solstice GXP for the first time as well. Sad that it took this long, but hey, I live in the middle of nowhere. While I like the Solstice, I never really loved it. Being a GXP and bright yellow and being able to see it in person certainly ma…

If you have a decision (major or minor doesn't matter) that you need to make and you've done all of the "pros and cons" lists, etc. ... and still neither side jumps out as the "better" decision ... how do decide? What do you DO to decide? Yeah, I know "give it time" is one answer ... but, what if you feel that you don't have much time to decide? Notice I indicated "better" decision ... as opposed to the "right" decision. Many times a "right" decision doesn't really exist. Even "better" doesn't cut it, because what is "better" for you in your eyes may not be what really IS "better" for you...if that makes any sense. *sighs* Yes, I'm being cryptic and not making much…

My 62 year old uncle made a new purchase about a month ago I found out. We don't see them too much do I didn't hear about it until we were at their house for Christmas this evening. He picked up a 2007 Foose Mustang convertible. Roush supercharger and everything on it, so it scoots. I know we are all GM guys here for the most part, but you have to appreciate this ride. I really wish I would have had a camera with so that I could have snapped some pics. It is black on top, and cinnamon on the bottom (a mix of orange and maroon). Foose wheels, revised front and rear fascia, new hood, roll bar. Maybe you guys don't think it is as cool as me. I'm a mustang guy at…

So I'm reading the new article on DCX's minivans and I came cross this. But the truth is, the most important thing about the 2008 Chrysler minivans, which are to be unveiled at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, is that they exist at all. The two other more-or-less domestic companies that have produced minivans in the past, General Motors and Ford, have both announced they're ceding the segment to the Japanese, the Koreans and, of course, Chrysler. So I suppose Toyota is more or less American too now right?

I don't usually put change in my pocket before I leave the house. This morning, a penny came out in the wash, so I put it in my shorts before going grocery shopping. Should I play the lottery?

recently there was a show on the national geographic or animal planet cant remember which, about massive animal extinction. it was about how a "super volcano" on pangea in the area of siberia errupted for like 250-500,000 years or something. anyway. it was talking about how at first it was no big deal, then life got worse for the animals on land. the water dwelling creatures didnt have any problems until the "global warming" from the volcanic gasses and trapping of the suns rays started kicking in. the water temps started rising and water has a lower oxygen content the warmer it gets. the water creatures began to die and so anaerobic bacteria started taking over in the wa…

He mentioned that he's looking for something with four doors, compact to midsize, 2-3 years old (or new if he can afford it), and fairly fuel efficient. He said he has looked at the Focus, Sentra, Mazda 3, and some others. I mentioned the Fusion, Malibu, G6, Cobalt, Astra, and Aura. He's never really liked Dodge so I didn't mention the Caliber or Avenger. of my malibu SS sedan. I absolutley love it. The graphite colored cloth/leather interior with the faux aluminum trim, 3 spoke wheel and other SS trim bits is really sharp. the 3.9 is deffinetly fast in this lighter malibu than it is in teh g6 gtp and the gtp was getting very respectable mid to low 0-60 times and good quarter mile times to begin with. The sport suspension and hurdallic steering are very well balllanced and calibrated and I like the tossability and handling of the shorter wheelbase epsilon though it makes for noticably more tourqe steer than the long wheelbase cars. My car is black with a sunroof. Only option it doesnt have is the 6 disk changer an…

Okay guys, I am trying something really strange. This idea came to me at my sons track meet this ayem, and I'm writing a fictional story based on all of us and GM cars. It is a strange story, based as a parody or satire. The only two of us I reveal by name or user name are myself (who I write about in third person) and Caddy Cruiser, because I needed a car salesman for my story and I felt like making him a character. Don't know how this is going to work out, but here goes...into the world of the odd...

I know I have the taste of someone not 16 but these are sweet cars. I would really like a RWD Lesabre that won't break the bank. I googled around a good 15 minutes, can't find what I am looking for. In vintage Road & Track road tests they used to feature scale 'see-thru' line drawings on the car's spec page. These showed the outline of the car, the power train & the driver seat/steering column. Here's a tiny example : My library of original mags is primarily Car Life & Motor Trend, so I don't know when this practice of providing these scale drawing started. ANYWAYS…… I am looking for that same sort of scaled line drawing for ANY 1950s car, say '50-57 (as the '58/59/60s start getting 'lower/longer' than I'm looking for). I got a summer internship in Des Moines, but the place I'm staying only has dial-up internet, so I doubt I will be using the internet much if at all this summer. It's going to be an adjustment because I usually check C&G every night. So if I go up missing here for a while, that's where I am...without the internet. About the only chance I'll get to go online is when I go home or if I drive up to ISU to visit friends up there who have it. So as my buddy would say, "Welp, schee ya!"...but I'll be back in full force in August! Hopefully I don't miss out on some good spies of the Silverado and Sierra.

I swear that I can see a UFO right now. My mom, sister, and I have been watching the East sky for about a half hour now and there is a bright light up there, it looks like a star. Well, occassionally it hops back and forth. It's between two trees by where we live, and it's gone over and above the tree to the right now. We see a green and red light flicker around it, and like I said, we can sometimes see it literally blink then jump spots. Seriously, go look and confirm this for yourself!

I was impressed by the ratings Ford got in the latest issue of cr. Someone at Ford must of found out who to pay off and how. Now it's GMs turn to find out who to pay off. They seemed to be all over the board. Oddley enough, there were a few GM cars that did great in JD Power but not so good with cr. I guess that goes back to my first statement. I did notice that the acura tl got a near perfect rating and the HHR did not. Funny, our experience is the complete opposite. Add to that, our Cobalt got a worst rating than our HHR. Not that either was bad, but our Cobalt actually was put together better in the end. With all the hoopla of cr not recommending the cam…

By Laura Schaefer Women have puzzled over it for years—why the heck do men do the things they do? Why do they profess their love for you one minute, then ignore you the next (say, when an Attila the Hun special turns up on TV)? Why can they not remember our birthdays? Let science explain some of these conundrums—and help you rev up your relationships! If on your first date he can't remember where you work, even though you told him all about it when you met, just remember that size matters … hippocampus size, that is. Don…

My wife Kimberley and I are going to take a 6 week vacation in July/August of this year. Two weeks we will spend home in Plano, Texas visiting my parents and extended family. However we saw a commercial on TV about visiting Utah. It looked really cool and neither of us has ever been there. So we were thinking about renting a car in Texas and driving to Utah and back since we will have four weeks to play like little kids in Utah. So does anyone on these great forums live there, or have you visited there? If you have let me know, I would like to know what you thought of Utah. Thanks in advance!

My choices included a Corolla, a Quest minivan, or this gargantuan mofo... Interestingly, as I drove back by the rental lot this evening, I saw a 2007 Camry for rent. It matches the 2007 Camry rental that cut me off the other day. Fleet queen, who?

With the purchase of my new Canon Powershot SX10 IS, of course I had to take some test photos. I haven't really had the chance to take any serious, directly motivated shots with it yet, however. Just random ones seeing what it can do. I know Dodgefan wanted to atleast see some of these. Me and my camera: Random inside/outdoor, day/night, sharply focused/landscape... and my two Boxers. Some shots using the Macro setting:

** 2010 is just around the corner ... already?! ** Holy cow ... it's hard to believe that 10 YEARS ago people were wondering if the change from 1999 to 2000 would disrupt life as we know it...! Yet, here we are ... on the brink of "Twenty Ten". Plenty has changed, but some things remain the same. Life is rapidly moving forward ... despite the turmoils and triumphs we've experienced and witnessed ... some of which seem ages ago, others like just yesterday. Here's to 2009 and years prior ... while looking to 2010 and beyond. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! "China alone loses between 100 million and 200 million tons of coal each year to mine fires, as much as 20 percent of their annual production, according to the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, based in Enschede, Netherlands. The Institute estimates that carbon dioxide emissions from these fires are as high as 1.1 billion metric tons, more than the total carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles in the United States."

This weekend I participated in my yearly ritual of viewing the newest Saw flick. I must say that I was especially impressed and in fact, I think this is probably the BEST Saw movie since the original (Which IMO is the best Saw) The movie really digs deeper into why Jigsaw became what he is and invokes sympathy on the part of the viewer. It also wraps up even more of the loose ends in all three of the previous movies and it has the classic Saw twist at the end. I would reccommend it to anyone who loves suspense and psychological thrillers. It's pretty graphic but I didn't think it was as bloody or intense as the last one. (I'm very squeamish) Those of you who watch horror…

What did you do for your mamma on her special day? My mom wanted to go to Easton, MD (where I used to live) for lunch, including some locally famous cream of crab soup. Then we took the short trek to St. Michaels, MD, to another locally famous spot for some ice cream. She said she had a great day, which was good. I thought of something funny on the way home after dropping her off though... both places are gay-owned.

I'm kinda thinking about it. It's an 06 LS Coupe, with 30k on it... It's quite rough on the outside (I'm detailing it now) with quite a few scratches, dents....a bit rough on the inside, but I'm making it look pretty decent.... It's been in an accident-though it was a light one- and inpected by both myself and my dad ( car is in family) Even though it looks rough on the outside, the Eco is in good shape (almost all highway miles) and the rest underneath is good too..... and I could probably pick up between 5-7 grand...... Even though it's a coupe (really don't need another one), it would make a good replacement for the wagon, and can be paid off fairly quic…

While on my trip to Ohio for fireworks yesterday, i saw this odd looking SUV. I first saw it about a mile south of the Tech Center, but this was as close as i could get to it, on the on ramp to 696. At first i thought it was a Jeep Commander, but on the sides it had the Hummer name. On the back, the names and logos were covered with black tape. I dont know what it was, but it defanitly wasn't a H2 or H3. Does anyone know anything about this?

One of the guys at the local electrical supply house just bought a Buick Grand National...for $2500. It ain't pretty. It's got a million Jesus loves you stickers on it, a regular Regal fender for one of the front fenders, the headliner is missing, and it needs paint in the worst sort of way. And it's got rust, but very minor. Also comes with a stack of paperwork that my tape measure says is three inches thick, the motor and tranny have been rebuilt by GOOD local people, the rest of the interior is damn near perfect, and it's a T-top car. Oddly enough, it was ordered with every option, including the upgraded stereo, but no posi rear end. Making me even sicker is…

Pontiac has long used racing sourced names since the '50s and through today. However, they seem to be abandoning it with the only names left being GTO and Grand Prix, both of which have questionable futures. Of course, Pontiac could return to using them, but could they possibly adopt new ones? Ones Pontiac has used... Grand Am Grand Prix GTO Bonneville Trans Am LeMans Formula GT Ones used by other manufacturers... Monte Carlo Daytona Sebring Monaco Baja IROC Grand Sport Grand National But are there still ones that could be possibly used? I've had no luck in searching... Any suggestions/ideas? All I can think of is PA's own Pocono …

This really is a WTF moment for Canadians... Harper is a Conservative, and not a very personable guy. This would be like Bush Sr. getting up on stage out of nowhere and singing.

Does anybody have connections or know someone that can look up the service history on an '02 Ford Explorer? I just bought this truck and the rear liftgate needs some attention. I have heard a rumor that there may be a relevant recall, but I'm not sure how to find out. I would like to be educated before I go into a dealership. I'm also curious about the maintenance history of the vehicle.

Does anyone know why the website "GMIsidenews" behaves this way when info is linked from this site? Immediately they remove all threads that have linked info from Cheers&Gears. Not trying to pry, but, what gives? If I'm out of line asking this question just delete this thread and I apologize... But I'm very curious? <_<
