When you fall through it! Or at least in this case when your left leg goes through the porch up to the mid-thigh. Well everyone I've seemed to have hurt myself. I'd come out of the woods this evening from hunting and was quietly packing my rifle away in its case on the front porch when CRAAAACK!!! and down goes my left leg through one of the boards on the porch. Looks like the reboarding and reinforcement of the front porch just got moved up a notch on the home improvement list...

of my malibu SS sedan. I absolutley love it. The graphite colored cloth/leather interior with the faux aluminum trim, 3 spoke wheel and other SS trim bits is really sharp. the 3.9 is deffinetly fast in this lighter malibu than it is in teh g6 gtp and the gtp was getting very respectable mid to low 0-60 times and good quarter mile times to begin with. The sport suspension and hurdallic steering are very well balllanced and calibrated and I like the tossability and handling of the shorter wheelbase epsilon though it makes for noticably more tourqe steer than the long wheelbase cars. My car is black with a sunroof. Only option it doesnt have is the 6 disk changer an…

Earlier this week, I had an "uh oh" moment on the way home. I was in the right lane of a 2-lane road and was trying to get over into the left lane. I kept checking my rearview mirror and glancing back to see if anyone was coming, but a Ford Explorer kept speeding up and slowing down such that I wasn't able to get over. In the meantime, the minivan ahead of me suddenly slammed on its brakes ... apparently because someone else had slowed down to turn right onto another street. At the time that I looked back ahead of me (I had been checking the rearview mirror), I panicked ... and hit the brakes, thinking I was going to hit the minivan. My '87 MC LS screeched to a halt …

If you have a decision (major or minor doesn't matter) that you need to make and you've done all of the "pros and cons" lists, etc. ... and still neither side jumps out as the "better" decision ... how do decide? What do you DO to decide? Yeah, I know "give it time" is one answer ... but, what if you feel that you don't have much time to decide? Notice I indicated "better" decision ... as opposed to the "right" decision. Many times a "right" decision doesn't really exist. Even "better" doesn't cut it, because what is "better" for you in your eyes may not be what really IS "better" for you...if that makes any sense. *sighs* Yes, I'm being cryptic and not making much…

After having a great late breakfast with 66Stang and his daughters, I have to get back to the race shop. It was great to meet Chris and his daughters (who both probably think we are nuts talking cars so much). He's a great guy and our conversation was way too short. Thanks for breakfast Chris, we'll do it again sometime. So I'm off to do some wrenching on the red/black Healey you guys all saw reduced to a shell recently. I already have the rear suspension back in and am working on the front. I was there until midnight last night and made some good progress. Hopefully, the car will be fully suspended a few hours from now. The Lotus is also race-ready at this poi…

...I live thousands of miles away from Las Vegas. I've been here since yesterday morning, and since then I've: 1. developed a serious gambling addiction. 2. been awake. 3. seen a dangerous amount of Chrysler Sebrings. 4. learned that Nevada never got the memo that mullets haven't been cool since 1984. Talk about unhealthy. I'm jetlagged, hungover, down a ridiculous amount of money, and loving every second of it.

I went camping at my favorite place, MI's Silver lake sand dunes. Lots of neat stuff to see, here's my buddies preparing to get stuck big time... the beast on the passenger side is Schuby87 on C&G... here is my Envoy, parked just beyond the peak, next to his super stuck truck this is (was) a International harvester Scout with 383 chevy power- Badass. there was a lot of this going on... my Envoy was punished, but did not fail...the bottom is real shiney now! Name this powerplant! it is aluminum, and American! The guy with the toreass here said: Yeah it's got 650hp- hah! it never went up any hill....that I saw...it just idled around. This was one…

just saw this article on banshift.com and thought it was pretty cool. never knew gmc made a v12. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We know that these things are basically two V6 engines hitched together (in a common block) and that they are lazy and aren’t really all that hot rod-able. Used in firetrucks, big rigs, to run pumps, and other mundane applications, these behemoth engines made 275hp and 630 lb/ft at about 2,000 RPM when new and we think that they’re all kinds of neat. Sure, sticking one in a car or old truck wouldn’t be for creating some sort of insane running hot rod, but shoehorning one into a light enough car would result in something that should burn tires for miles if se…

By Laura Schaefer Women have puzzled over it for years—why the heck do men do the things they do? Why do they profess their love for you one minute, then ignore you the next (say, when an Attila the Hun special turns up on TV)? Why can they not remember our birthdays? Let science explain some of these conundrums—and help you rev up your relationships! Be patient with his memory The hippocampus, where initial memories are formed, occupies a smaller percent of the male brain than the female brain. If on your first date he can't remember where you work, even though you told him all about it when you met, just remember that size matters … hippocampus size, that is. Don…

Don't know where else in the forum to ask this...so... 1. How can GM run the p[lant that builds the sky-solstice profitably when they are only selling 1500 cars or so a month? Just curious. 2. Anybody know anything about the Baltimore plant? Have there been more than one plants in Baltimore? My 55 Chrolet 210 2 door was built in Baltimore and my 97 GMC Safari Van was built in Baltimore. Notieced that GM no longer has a plant there. Also, is this the same plant that built the 69 custom S pontiac that one of our forum members owns? 3. I owned for a very long time a 71 Chevelle that was built in Texas. When was this plant closed? 4. SSR production is stopped, r…

With me looking to turf my Dahlia Blue 1997 Cavalier, and am looking to buy something new this fall... I've short listed it to a few choices, most with the 3.1L V6 as it is relatively efficient, and I need some advice to prioritize my list before I talk to my used car guy. I'm currently considering: 1997-2001 Buick Century 1995-1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (3.1L) 1995-1999 Chevrolet Lumina (3.1L) 1995-1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo (3.1L) 1997-2001 Pontiac Grand Prix (3.1L) 1994-1995 Pontiac Trans Sport 3.8L/Chevrolet Lumina Minivan 3.8L (The Dustbusters) Now, my gut is telling me that the best choice is the Century because of the JD Power Awards for quality and de…

As some know, I've been out of work with no pay for 7 business days due to abdominal pain that started with a trip to the ER Thursday, December 1. Given this morning's events, I figured I'd fill you all in...& give some other news as well.... That other news being the death of my grandfather, Virgil Weimer, this morning (Friday, December 9, 2005) in Mt Morris IL. After Thanksgiving, he had increasingly refused to eat. So, it was not a big surprise...but, still isn't easy. Unlike with my grandmother just over 3 years ago, we had no "advanced warning" from him; he died soon after he woke up this morning. Like with my grandmother, howeve…

As a timberwolves fan each year it is becoming more and more hilarious how we draft others superstars and trade them away like toddler clothes you give away to the second hand store for a dollar. RAY ALLEN BRANDON ROY (roy=rookie of the year) now this year McFail gives away a promising OJ Mayo and also Chalmers. the level of humor with his deals get worse each year. How in the HELL can we get rid of him? and then trading Garnett too? my gosh.

I really want Gran Turismo 4, but they never release the GT series for the PC so scratch that. I was looking around for some PC racing game that have some semblence of realism like the GT series, and came across GTR Evolution and Need for Speed Pro Street. GTR looks like a decent game, but I'm more interested in muscle and production car racing and GTR is basically about high-end exotics and racers. Need for Speed Pro Street seems to have a great range of cars, but it seems to suffer in the realism department. I was watching a video on YouTube of a drag race, and people are hitting quarter miles in 5 seconds with old GTOs and 240SX's. I've only played Need for Spe…

Well, here I am packing for tomorrow afternoon's flight up to PDX. I will stick around Friday night and all of Monday, the 25th, before flying out. Been a long time, so this one is overdue. And it's a fun one to jump back with. C&D just posted up their First Drive Review of the new 991.2 Turbo. Here is the link- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2017-porsche-911-turbo-first-drive-review Since there was no as-tested price, we're going to use the range from just below base price on a Turbo, to just above base price on a Turbo S. That's a nice ~50K bracket. So, you have to spend at least $150,000, but no more than $200,000. The only requirement is that the car be some sort of high-end sport coupe/sport-GT/etc. Have fun.

Oh, why did I open my mouth? Our firm hired a new safety director a couple of months ago. He seems like a good fellow, and knows what he is doing on his job. He is quite professional, amiable and good conversationalist. During one of the safety meetings, he told us that he raced his vehicles, and will be more than happy to start a club for at our firm so young dudes and dudesses (yeah there are a couple of gearheaded girls like our own GMpartsgirl) of our firm can race and enjoy. The conversation was going great. I asked him what vehicle he drove; to which he said a 2008 Civic Si, with some modifications in progress. I thought it was perfectly fine – different…

I don't usually put change in my pocket before I leave the house. This morning, a penny came out in the wash, so I put it in my shorts before going grocery shopping. Should I play the lottery?

I was looking at this car on Ebay for a while and I don't have a log-in there and can't anyways because it is the American site. I really want to know the email or somewhere to contact this person. I am really tempted to buy it because, it is good condition and I believe these are quite a rare package. I have only seen one before and it didn't have those rims either. I know I have the taste of someone not 16 but these are sweet cars. I would really like a RWD Lesabre that won't break the bank. I know it says reserve not met but I would like to find out the reserve. ANd yes I did see the plaid interior. Here it is. 1979 Buick Lesabre West Palm Beach edition

Cuba to cut 500,000 gov't workers, reform salaries AP Cuba announced Monday it will cast off at least half a million state workers by early next year and reduce restrictions on private enterprise to help them find new jobs — the most dramatic step yet in President Raul Castro's push to radically remake employment on the communist-run island. Castro suggested during a nationally televised address on Easter Sunday that as many as 1 million Cuban workers — about one in five — may be redundant. But the government had not previously laid out specific plans to slash its work force, and the speed and scope of the coming cutbacks were astounding. Cuba's official work force is…

Just an idea, not sure how practical it is. Those of you more technical than me may let me know about details and what you think. Basically I was thinking about the mechanics of a hybrid and how it stores braking energy for later use. This idea does not have to necessarily be connected to a gasoline-run system. Think about a bicycle with a small electric motor integrated either into the bottom bracket (where the cranks attach) or into the rear wheel hub. A battery could be mounted on a rear rack, over the rear tire. The brakes could operate this in reverse to generate power (as in a hybrid car). You could then have some kind of throttle for a little electric boost to …

Well about two weeks ago a very reliable source told me some bad news... all department supervisors in my high school have submitted the name of the person with the lowest seniority currently employed (in my department, business education, that would be ME). While nothing official yet - school board election & budget approval don't take place until April in NJ - word has spread that there will not be enough money to fund both supplies and teachers for next year. My source told me this so I don't waste any time trying to find another teaching job (good luck I say). Then today after our faculty meeting we have a meeting with the local union president. She tells us t…

Do you work well under pressure? For a class tonight, I had to turn in a paper in the 7 to 10 page range. This is a more conceptual management class, so it had no numbers. (I like the objective ones better, actually). Last night at about 11 pm, I started a scratch outline. This morning at 6 am, I had no paper in process. It was due at 5:30 pm. I kicked into overdrive at about 2 pm, and walked in at 5:35 pm. It's all adult-type working students, so it didn't matter. I made it. I always get through, but I hate it. The eating at a diner and writing and all that stress to make a deadline. I always plan out "boxes of time" in advance but don't stick to them. …

My friend is looking to replace his '99 Monte Carlo with something newer since he is graduated and has a full-time job. He mentioned that he's looking for something with four doors, compact to midsize, 2-3 years old (or new if he can afford it), and fairly fuel efficient. He said he has looked at the Focus, Sentra, Mazda 3, and some others. I mentioned the Fusion, Malibu, G6, Cobalt, Astra, and Aura. He's never really liked Dodge so I didn't mention the Caliber or Avenger. He said he's not interested in Toyota or Honda offerings...he doesn't like the look of the new Toyotas and same with the Honda Civic. I think Impala, Five Hundred/Taurus, etc. are bigger than what…

My wife Kimberley and I are going to take a 6 week vacation in July/August of this year. Two weeks we will spend home in Plano, Texas visiting my parents and extended family. However we saw a commercial on TV about visiting Utah. It looked really cool and neither of us has ever been there. So we were thinking about renting a car in Texas and driving to Utah and back since we will have four weeks to play like little kids in Utah. So does anyone on these great forums live there, or have you visited there? If you have let me know, I would like to know what you thought of Utah. Thanks in advance!

NO IT WASN'T ME! :rotflmao: BRANDYWINE HUNDRED, Del. - A man running naked and drunk on a highway accosted several Good Samaritans and caused three accidents, according to state police. Police said Ardonas Gilbert, 26, of Chester, Pa., was running along the southbound lanes of Interstate-95 near Marsh Road about 10 p.m. Monday. Gilbert allegedly assaulted two people who tried to help him get off the road and had caused three separate traffic crashes as people swerved to try to avoid him, police said. No one was seriously injured. Gilbert was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and a single count of being drunk on the highway. He is being held at the Howar…

this is an editorial from a mag subscription i have to Muscle Machines. i thought it was a good read and patiently waited for it to be available on the hemmings site so as not to have to type it up. so without further delay "A Lesson Learned" by Craig Fitzgerald. I was driving home from work the other night, listening to an interview from Boch Toyota, located down near my old home in Massachusetts. The subject, of course, was the recall of some three million Toyotas to fix an issue with the accelerator pedal that was causing the pedal to stick to the floor in some very rare cases. Two things came immediately to mind. The first was an issue I had with my 1989 F-150. It…

If you haven't explored your area ... driving roads or being a "tourist" to see what you find ... I highly suggest you take time to DO IT. And, yes, that includes myself. I've mentioned before how I explore the back roads west of my home town when I'm driving my Monte Carlos. I've discovered some neat, secluded areas (particularly long stretches of back roads!), as well as some interesting short cuts. This time, a day before my birthday, my Aunt Chris and I went for a drive to explore some areas in central/western/northern IL. Our trip (Sunday, 09/18/2011) was preceded by a conversation we had this past spring. We were talking about the drive out to Mt Morris IL, pa…

So I'm reading the new article on DCX's minivans and I came cross this. But the truth is, the most important thing about the 2008 Chrysler minivans, which are to be unveiled at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, is that they exist at all. The two other more-or-less domestic companies that have produced minivans in the past, General Motors and Ford, have both announced they're ceding the segment to the Japanese, the Koreans and, of course, Chrysler. So I suppose Toyota is more or less American too now right?

It's a significant reason why I bought it. This definitely kicks the crap out of the two junkpiles currently sitting next to me.

With the purchase of my new Canon Powershot SX10 IS, of course I had to take some test photos. I haven't really had the chance to take any serious, directly motivated shots with it yet, however. Just random ones seeing what it can do. I know Dodgefan wanted to atleast see some of these. Me and my camera: Random inside/outdoor, day/night, sharply focused/landscape... and my two Boxers. Some shots using the Macro setting:

What Car is a Definite Home(r) Run? Monday, 11th October, 2010 by "black-knight" I'm sure that if you're an average American you've probably watched Fox's long-running animated sitcom "The Simpsons" at one point in your lifetime. I'm also sure that if you're an average American who likes cars that's watched that aforementioned TV show, you know about The Homer, the car protagonist Homer Simpson designed himself for his half-brother's (Herb Powell) domestic automobile manufacturer, Powell Motors. Okay, well, if you didn't before now, now you do and you can see that hunk of fictional American metal in the header above. Now, there's an old saying that goes, "Life i…

I was impressed by the ratings Ford got in the latest issue of cr. Someone at Ford must of found out who to pay off and how. Now it's GMs turn to find out who to pay off. They seemed to be all over the board. Oddley enough, there were a few GM cars that did great in JD Power but not so good with cr. I guess that goes back to my first statement. I did notice that the acura tl got a near perfect rating and the HHR did not. Funny, our experience is the complete opposite. Add to that, our Cobalt got a worst rating than our HHR. Not that either was bad, but our Cobalt actually was put together better in the end. With all the hoopla of cr not recommending the cam…

All right, for all of y'all who don't know what I do with my spare time, this is some of it right here. I have built all of these models, along with many more at my parent's house, hanging from the ceiling, and even more than that that have met their fate during my annual 4th of July celebration. Don't mind the dust and I hope y'all enjoy.

This one is classic...Clarkson is full of great quotes! "I've got my foot WELDED to the floor, absolutely welded to the floor!" "Look at it! And it gives you a headache! A hateful, hateful car." "The hell! Come on, 40!" .... "aww, COME ON! ...58...now I'm giving up...too much hard work." "Look what's coming now! NOO!! Well this is pathetic! You get overtaken by wildlife!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2bEG8BdN7g

I'm kinda thinking about it. It's an 06 LS Coupe, with 30k on it... It's quite rough on the outside (I'm detailing it now) with quite a few scratches, dents....a bit rough on the inside, but I'm making it look pretty decent.... It's been in an accident-though it was a light one- and inpected by both myself and my dad ( car is in family) Even though it looks rough on the outside, the Eco is in good shape (almost all highway miles) and the rest underneath is good too..... and I could probably pick up between 5-7 grand...... Even though it's a coupe (really don't need another one), it would make a good replacement for the wagon, and can be paid off fairly quic…

I recently joined the Society of Automotive Engineers so I am able to attend a few seminars this year at the 2007 World Conference in April at Cobo Hall. They have some interesting presentations like Diesel Emissions and Aftertreatment Devices: Design and Durability, Catalytic Converters: Design and Durability, Fundamentals of All-Wheel Drive Systems, and the AVL Technology Theater. http://www.sae.org/congress/ So I was just wondering if anyone else was a member, or planning on attending any of the upcoming SAE events?

This weekend I participated in my yearly ritual of viewing the newest Saw flick. I must say that I was especially impressed and in fact, I think this is probably the BEST Saw movie since the original (Which IMO is the best Saw) The movie really digs deeper into why Jigsaw became what he is and invokes sympathy on the part of the viewer. It also wraps up even more of the loose ends in all three of the previous movies and it has the classic Saw twist at the end. I would reccommend it to anyone who loves suspense and psychological thrillers. It's pretty graphic but I didn't think it was as bloody or intense as the last one. (I'm very squeamish) Those of you who watch horror…

I'm curious if you guys know anything about this college. College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Mi.. I noticed some fairly big names are in the alumni, such as the designer for the Ford GT and Chrysler 300. I've been looking into schooling lately and this campus appears to be good bet for the Automotive Design field and its not overly far away. Tuition and housing would run about $35-$40k a year, which would hopefully be covered by Financial Aid.

Everyone here seems to be thinking about a change of fleet. Camino is looking slowly at getting a better work truck, Balthazar is wanting that nifty Lincoln Flower car, Olds is looking for a car for Albert and a truck for his rental business, Dave 87 RS is thinking about a Cruze, Satty's wife is thinking about a Volvo, Roger wants a Truck, Ocean would be wanting another car if he had Jay Leno's garage, and I'm missing half the Forum. This thread could be pinned for awhile if Olds wants...but I would like to see if we could get a good discussion going on what we are all actually doing with changes to the C and G fleet. As for me...I have checked out and or driven a bunc…

Alright, we have reached the pinnacle of engines in terms of how many cylinders are stuffed in a block in widely produced cars. Although this has primarily been the stomping grounds of European brands in late years, there WERE other brands than made V12's. Cadillac, Lincoln, and Toyota among them. The rules are the usual and as follows- 1) Production cars only 2) Any era and market is allowed. 3) These are your only vehicles. 4) Cars must have 12 cylinders, obviously. NO HYBRIDS!! 5) You have 5 choices. After creating a top 5 list, you may expand it to 10. Enjoy.

Yep...happened again...same car too. So we've had the Prizm back for about 2 weeks now, I've been meaning to post about it but haven't got any good pics to show yet so I haven't done so. Anyway, I was working yesterday, coming back from my first delivery, I pulled onto the street beside work and parked on the side. There was a red Silverado in front of me and some other car in front of him. I backed up a bit to give him some extra room to pull out, so he had 5 feet or so plus the space between him and the other car. I lock up and start to walk to the shop. I notice he backing up and for some reason I felt compelled to watch...only to find the f@#king retard backing into …

Last night, one or more people broke into two cars in the small parking lot next to my apartment. This area has been notorious over the years for having cars broken into due to how secluded and dark it is at night (in a semi-wooded area). No windows from the apartment face this parking lot, so the thugs think it's a free-for-all and have hit some people twice even. I was third in line parked next to a newish Chevy TrailBlazer and a late 90s Pontiac Sunfire (the Pontiac was closest to the parking lot entrance). The guy that drives the TB is moving out next week to Michigan where his wife will be attending grad school. My car had a pretty new mini-fridge in the backs…

As I'm quite bored (there's nothing like pouring rain on a car lot to make things very slow and boring), I thought I'd pose a question. If you could resurrect one, and only one, now defunct car brand, which would you choose, why, and how would you do it? I've been thinking about this and it's a tough call. Part of me wants to say Pontiac, because I would love to see GM work harder on performance models, but my heart says Mercury. My first car was a 1982 Mercury Cougar station wagon, to me Cougar has always brought a feeling of excitement to mind (even in that wagon, at least a little bit, I'm not sure why, but that is how I thought of them as a kid and it never lef…

This is an interesting quiz that covers a broad scope of American civics history. The link below shows that as a whole, our elected officals score lower than ordinary citizens in this test. I think that speaks volumes for where this country is at today. http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/2008/...al_finding.html The quiz can be taken at the link below. I had 27/33, which is 82%. The average score for ordinary citizens is 49%. Elected officials average around 44%. http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/resources/quiz.aspx
