At FCA, amid the backdrop of a proposed merger and its subsequent collapse, a lawsuit has been filed by Reid Bigland, head of the RAM brand and CEO of FCA Canada alleging that FCA has retaliated against Bigland for cooperating in a Federal prob of FCA's sales reporting process. Bigland joined Chrysler in 2006 and in turn took over the reigns of Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Dodge, eventually serving as CEO of FCA Canada. The lawsuit filed Wednesday accuses FCA of retaliation for not taking the fall for the sales reporting prob. Bigland claims his compensation has fallen by more than 90% and that the sales reporting process under scrutiny was one that he inherited. …

Bob Nardelli Laments The Loss Of Chrysler William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 3, 2011 Former Chrysler CEO, Bob Nardelli isn't happy with Obama Administation still to this day. Speaking with The Detroit News, Nardelli had some interesting thoughts about Chrysler. Nardelli says he "laments all the time" that private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management LP, who he still works for, isn't running the pentastar. "If the government gave us the deal they gave Fiat, we'd be doing just fine — really. There was no reason for the government to give Chrysler away," Nardelli said. Back in 2009, Cerberus sent a plan to US Government outlini…

Another Recall for the Grand Cherokee Chrysler is recalling 131,000 2000-2002 Jeep Grand Cherokees because of a defective engine fan. The blades on the cooling fan may fly off and injure anyone near. This is the second Grand Cherokee recall this week. On Monday, a recall for 111,600 2003-2004 GC's was issued because the front seats may catch fire. Couple that with the call for an investigation into Grand Cherokees for sudden acceleration issues and it seems like this is a pretty bad week for Jeep and their Grand Cherokee buyers. 2011 Chrysler Lineup Impressions Saturday I finally got around to checking out some of the new metal. Stopped by Salvadore Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep in Gardner. It was late in teh afternoon so the photos kinda suck due to lack of daylight, but it is what it is. First up is the Chrysler 200. In the flesh you can still see its Sebring routes, but its amazing what a nose job and a nice butt will do for the car. There's some nice detailing on the exterior, like how the chrome trim on the rear fascia mimics the grill trim. I really like the LED piping on in headlights, and the detailing of the tail lights. Inside, the interior is much improved. Gone is the cheap gray, p…

Chrysler's Hidden Coffers Dan Gerstein, 12.10.08, 12:01 AM EST Link to Article Why is Cerberus, one of the world's richest private equity firms, begging for a bailout? When I wrote about the bailout blunders of the auto industry two weeks ago, I thought the Big Three had most likely topped out on the political outrage meter. But that was before the shady story of Cerberus, the uber-connected private equity firm that owns Chrysler, reared its three ugly heads over the weekend. Buried on the business page of The New York Times Saturday were the details of Detroit's biggest snow job yet--literally as well as figuratively. Turns out that Cerberus CEO John Snow, who …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 30, 2013 Today, Chrysler announced its earnings for 2012 and the results are staggering. The company reported a net income of $1.7 billion, up substantially from minuscule $183 million profit earned in 2011. Chrysler also saw their 4th quarter net income increase from $225 million in 2011 to $378 million in 2012. The massive increases is due to Chrysler's market share increasing to 11.4%. Chrysler also unveiled a updated product plan for all of its brands. The big news is that Chrysler and Dodge have dropped their Fiat-based models. Instead, Fiat will introduce five new models including compact and subcompact …

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has made the decision to cut the Chrysler brand in the UK to focus more on Jeep. "We have made a decision to shift our focus away from Chrysler and toward other FCA brands," a Chrysler spokesman told Automotive News. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' deputy UK managing director Karl Howkins told Autocar the decision came down to Chrysler products not being very appealing to UK customers and that the CO2 emissions on their lineup were too high. Chrysler sold the 300, Voyager (Town and Country), and a rebadged versions of the Lancia Delta and Ypsilon. According to the UK’s Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, Chrysler only sold 1,982 vehicles la…

I don't know if this has been confirmed or discussed much yet today but while I was going to the W.P. Chrysler Museum today, I got lost at the tech center. While we were trying to find the Museum again, we drove by a holding lot of their test cars I believe and what comes to my attention, a lime green Chery A1 sitting with all of the other Chryslers. However, I saw at least one or two more sitting there so Chrysler is indeed testing the possiblities. It doesn't appear they want to hide the car as there was no camo and and lime green stands out in a sea of silver and black cars. Also I saw a new Challenger today going north on I-75 between Squirrel road and Crooks Rd.

Edmunds Drives the Compass It should be noted as a general rule, I try to find the best picture of a car to use when I post a news entry. This was quite a task with the Compass because it is in my opinion, the worst-looking SUV since the Aztek (yes, it has dethroned the X3). This is about the only image where the thing doesn't look completely pug-fugly. I could wax lyrical about the Compass' looks all day but of course, you clicked this thread to read Edmunds' take on it, not mine. So without further rambling, here you go: Read "First Drive: 2007 Jeep Compass" @ Edmunds Damn, what an ugly car...

If you ever rent a midsize from Advantage Rent a Car, you will most likely get a 2-door Chrysler Sebring hardtop coupe instead of the Stratus 4-door which is ubiqutous in other fleets. My first impression is that this is a decent looking car. (I don't like the convertible). However, in pricing it, it is not competitive with a much more substantial purchase like a LaCrosse or Impala. Plus, for some unknown reason, the price differential between their 4 doors and the coupe is an eye-opener. Plus side: Good looks, nice instrument area, fun to drive Negative side: Price/value, C/R does not like it, not the most practical However, I voted YES. There are very fe…

Tomorrow morning, Chrysler will unveil the Chrysler Halcyon Concept EV on their website. The Halcyon is an evolution from the Chrysler Airflow Concept shown in 2022. Chrysler has teased various vague images over the last few weeks, showing an updated logo and some various, undefined body lines with little else in the way of clues. Two things that stand out from the teaser images are the shape of the back glass and the full-width tail lamps. What we can expect is that the Halcyon will be a two-row crossover, and it will sit on the Stellantis STLA platform. We also already know that since the merger, Stellantis planned on moving most of the U.S. brands to PSA platforms…

The Ford Mustang has been a dominant force in the sales department well before the last generation Chevy Camaro rode off into the sunset. That changed last month. Ford's iconic pony car has been outsold by the Dodge Challenger by 293 units in February, as the Dodge coupe racked up 3,283 sales during a very challenging month. The Challenger's February victory could be a sign of things to come for the Mustang, as the Blue Oval's most recognizable vehicle is set to get bombarded with more competition coming from the 2010 Camaro. The Camaro, which goes into regular production on March 16, already has over 10,000 pre-orders on the books. The Mustang won't be left for dead, t…

In a discussion about their pending merger, Fiat Chrysler revealed that the combined company's future vehicles in the small to mid-size range will be built on two of PSA's platforms. The reasoning behind it is that PSA's platforms are more modern than FCA's which first debuted in 2003. They are also capable of a wider range of propulsion methods like electrification that are harder to incorporate into the aging platform that FCA is using. The smaller of the two platforms, PSA's CMP, launched last year is found under the Peugeot 208, 2008, DS 3 Crossback and the new Opel Corsa. The larger platform is called EMP2 and launched in 2016. It underpins the Peugeot 3008…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 29, 2012 Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said on the sidelines of an industry event in Brussels that the company is looking for a partner to help share production and development costs. "We're on the move. We can be an active partner everywhere around the world," said Marchionne. When asked about possibly partnering up with a European automaker, Marchionne said he’s looking them, but there isn’t a lot of options open. When asked if they would be interested in a partnership with Mazda or Suzuki, Marchionne said, "there are many opportunities to look at, including those." Source: Automotive News (Subscri…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 23, 2012 If you have been dreaming about seeing the new Viper at your local Chrysler dealer, you'll probably be disappointed by this news. Automotive News had a chance to speak with SRT CEO Ralph Gilles. Gilles said that one out of every five Chrysler dealers will be selling the Viper. "We're going to open it up to any dealer who can put the money forward and the training, but it's going to be pretty difficult to hit all of those things. You've got to have the training, the facilities, and some history of selling Vipers and SRTs in general," said Gilles. The reason for the limited number of dealers selling the Vip…

We had a feeling this was coming. The Detroit News reports that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will be cutting a shift at the Sterling Heights Assembly plant - home of the Chrysler 200 - and laying off 1,420 workers at the plant and a supporting stamping plant. In a statement, FCA explained the cut is “to better align production with demand,” and “a direct result of shifting demand toward trucks and SUVs.” “Our truck and SUV plants are running six days a week about 20 hours a day,” the company said. “And while 1,300 people will be impacted by layoffs (at Sterling Heights Assembly), we have been able to add 11,000 hourly jobs in Michigan since 2009 to keep up with that dema…

Chrysler Cuts Will Bind It More to Benz Deeper integration on tap as Daimler tries to fix Chrysler. by Joseph Szczesny (2007-02-05) DaimlerChrysler intends to tie together the company's German and American wings more tightly than ever under the new plan for reviving the fortunes of the ailing Chrysler Group. The Financial Times reported the rescue plan would include greater use of common components and systems by both the Chrysler Group and Mercedes-Benz Group. The use of common components has been a contentious issue since the merger was first proposed in 1998 but it has gradually become more acceptable as both groups have faced intense cost pressures. The Wa…

I doubt this concerns too many here, and not really even myself, but something I thought of, and I need to see what others think/feel/believe/know. The first and second generation JA (Clouds) cars featured suspensions that were of a Front high-arm with anti-sway bar, and Rear low-arm multilink with sway bar, or as Chrysler also calls it, "Modified Double-Wishbone Suspension". Not only unique in the midsize segment which features mostly a MacPherson strut/Multilink setup, I've read that this sort of suspension also costs a little more to produce. However, with the next generation of the Clouds nearly upon us, I have to wonder. This platform was codeveloped with Mit…

Chrysler recalls 268,800 vehicles Associated Press / AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is recalling 268,800 vehicles from the 2005-2006 model years to replace a faulty front windshield wiper motor, the company said Monday. The wiper motor armature shaft on the vehicles, which include the Dodge Durango, Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan, and Chrysler Town & Country, can break, resulting in a loss of wiper function, Chrysler said. The company said it had notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the voluntary recall. Owners will be notified when parts are available. 2008 Dodge Avenger at MSN Autos Well, overall it seems as though the cars aren't nearly as bad as portrayed! However, I am rather irritable at the fact they see an estimated 27 miles per gallon highway as horrible for a V6. Um, you know, my 5-cylinder Rabbit is only rated at 29 highway.

Since someone posted about the MB lighting question, I have a Dodge one. Last week I was on Sunrise Highway and saw a Calibur signaling. I was in the left lane doing a conservative, well, I was going faster. When I passed it, I noticed it's headlight was flashing as a directional. I thought it was very odd. Then later I saw it changing lanes again and the other headlight was acting as a directional. It was during the day, and I wondered if it had something to do with it being more visible using daytime running headlamps. Is it just a freak of nature electrical problem or does someone know if it's supposed to do that?

Preview: 2007 Jeep Patriot The Compass gets a hardcore sibling. by Henny Hemmes (2006-04-10) The Chrysler Group gave us the first glance at the Jeep Patriot at the Frankfurt auto show last fall. Although the Patriot was shown alongside the Jeep Compass as a concept car, the Patriot soon became a confirmed entrant in the small-SUV segment. This Wednesday in New York , the Patriot will be shown to the public as a production-ready vehicle. The new Patriot will do to Jeep's bottom what the Commander did to its top - extend the model range for the hallowed brand. A compact SUV with a traditional Jeep exterior design, the Patriot is based on the underpinnings of the Dodge…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 3, 2012 Chrysler’s SRT group has been on a bit of roll as late. Their lineup, which includes the Chrysler 300 SRT8, Dodge Challenger SRT8, Dodge Charger SRT8, and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 has been praised widely. But, all of those models mentioned come from other divisions in Chrysler. That appears to be changing with the new SRT Viper due out later this year, and SRT is hungry for more models of their own. Motor Trend reports that SRT could be getting two more models in the coming years. The first model is one that we have been hearing about for awhile; the Barracuda. The replacement to the current Dodge Challenger…

What Edmunds.com Says: Dodge may have broken its promise of a Durango hybrid in the past, but this vehicle's chances of coming to fruition are looking quite good. What We Know: It was revealed toward the end of last year that DaimlerChrysler plans to go through with a production-ready Dodge Durango Hybrid by 2007. Sure, the company has promised such a truck before, but it is in a much better position to turn this into a feasible project this time around, especially given its new commitment to develop hybrid drive systems with GM. The last attempt at such a vehicle, the Durango TTR, was abandoned in 2002 after the powertrain system failed to deliver the desired fuel eco…

Remember 'Smash that Viper!'? Well, sibling-site Adjab posted about some 'good ole boys' who are performing a similar stunt with their 1997 Dodge Neon Sport (pictured). Dodge kinship aside, the stakes hardly seem as high, eh? On April 29th, the Neon will meet a gristly death in the form of a 150' cliff. The results will be recorded and broadcast on the auctioneers' website, while covered by television stations and newspaper reporters. When the sellers were asked why they were engaging in such a stunt, they replied, "...f…

I've been impressed with Chrysler's latest string of TV Ads, from Eminem to the American Revolution ad, to the "The Things We Make, Make Us" Jeep ad. Seems like they've got another winner here. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and I agree with the whole racing versus cruising thing. Don't know why they incorporated the 200 and T&C, frankly the only thing that qualifies, once again, is the 300 (as an aside, I'm looking forward to seeing the new one once the local dealers start getting them) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWMi75CAjjE&hd=1

One of the weakest points of the base V6-equipped Dodge Challenger SE has been the transmission. Chrysler saddled the SE with the old four-speed automatic instead of the Mercedes designed five-speed used in the V8 models. Chrysler used the occasion of an LX owners meet this weekend to debut a new SE Rallye edition that finally gives the V6 the extra ratio it needs. The Rallye also gets hood and decklid stripes, and five spoke 18-inch wheels. Hopefully Chrysler tightens up the suspension a bit to eliminate some of the floatiness of the SE. The SE Rallye will reportedly run $26,490 after production starts next month. Autoblog

Only one transmission away from a success If you ever had any doubt that it's better to be the younger sibling, check out the 2007 Jeep Patriot. The boxy 2007 Patriot compact SUV is the third vehicle the Chrysler Group has spun off its new small-car platform. First there was the Dodge Caliber — the odd-looking hunchback hatchback with a cheap interior and lackluster performance. Then there was the Jeep Compass — a vehicle so utterly wrong-headed that, in the future, a Ph.D. candidate in marketing will write a thesis about it. Fortunately the 2007 Jeep Patriot is the best of this otherwise dysfunctional family. Rendezvous syndrome Perhaps it's the Rendezvous synd…

The rumors that PSA and FCA may merge can be put to bed now. Sources familiar with the discussion told the Wall Street Journal that executives from the respective companies are no longer in talks. FCA was reticent about the idea because it would increase the companies reliance on the struggling European market, and the Agnelli family, who has a controlling stake in FCA, was not interested in a deal that was paid for with PSA stock. PSA would need to use equity to pay for FCA because they are still digesting their acquisition of Opel from General Motors. Had they merged, the combined company would produce over 9 million vehicles per year, putting them on a playing …
