Up until now, the Honda Clarity has only been able as a hydrogen fuel cell only sold in California since they have the infrastructure. But today at the New York Auto Show has expanded the Clarity lineup with the introduction of electric and plug-in hybrid variants. We'll begin with the Clarity Electric which comes with 120-kW electric motor delivering 161 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. A 25.5-kWh battery pack provides the juice and can be recharged within three hours when plugged into a 240V outlet. As we reported previously and has since been confirmed by Honda, the Clarity EV will have a range of around 80 miles. Next is the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid that…

Citing an unnamed source "close to the project," InsideLine is reporting that Hyundai plans to bring the Equus super-sedan to the States within the next two to three years. According to the insider, "... you wouldn't be too far off if you said the car was coming to the United States. Our chairman wants it." Although the news doesn't come as a complete surprise, particularly considering Hyundai brought out an Equus to this week's New York Auto Show, the biggest hurdle to overcome is price. In its current form, the Equus starts at around $96,000, putting it squarely up against such high-dollar machinery as the Audi A8, BMW 7 series, Lexus LS and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Hyu…

At the New York Auto Show today, Hyundai introduced the 7th generation of their mid-size Sonata sedan. After the revolutionary change the previous version brought, Hyundai has adopted a more evolutionary design. Billed as Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, the 2015 Sonata has been refined further and the look brought more in line with the upper end of the Hyundai family, the Genesis luxury sedan. Hyundai addresses concerns of road noise and vibration with increased usage of sound deadening materials in the firewall and floorpan. Under the car is a fibrous glass board that improves aerodynamics and further reduces noise. Improvements in interior packaging bump the passenger volume u…

The Infiniti QX80 SUV is already a brazen SUV in terms of its looks. If the QX80 Monograph concept that debuted on the eve of the New York Auto Show is any indication, it seems that next-generation will become more brazen. With measurements of 16 feet long and 6.5 feet tall, the QX80 Monograph is an imposing vehicle. The girth is further accentuated by the gold paint and chrome accents. A set of 24-inch wheels feature a design that overlaps the tires, making them look larger than they really are. The front end is reminiscent of the QX50 Concept shown this year at Detroit with a tall and wide version of Infiniti's double-arch grille and a prominent bumper with deep…

I just got back from the New York Auto show, and besides having a bad driving/parking experience it was a lot of fun. I have to say the Aura and the Sky that I sat in were pretty crappy. I don't know if it was just a show car or what, but it was total junk. Most of the other GM cars I was pretty impressed with though. The Camaro was truly a work of automtive art, and was even better than in pictures. I'll probably post some pics a little bit later. Any other questions?

Kia revealed some details and pictures of the upcoming K900 flagship sedan that will be debuting next week at the New York Auto Show. The K900's new body was styled in California and Korea. It has slightly more presence than the outgoing model with a front grille featuring 176 jewel-like “cells,” and new LED headlights. The back looks Mercedes-esq with similar styling for the trunk and taillights. Kia has extended the K900's wheelbase by 60-millimeters (about 2.3-inches), which is similar to a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. We also got a first look at the K900's interior thanks to someone leaking out the brochure for the Korean-market K900. Compared to the o…

Kia has been an outlier in the minivan class with the Sedona. It never quite had the same status as the Chrysler Town & Country/Dodge Caravan, Honda Odyssey, and Toyota Sienna. But the company plans to change that with the introduction of the 2015 Sedona at the New York Auto Show this week. The 2015 Sedona's design reminds us the of the Nissan Quest with its upright lines and slab-slides. The front end has Kia's distinctive grille with new headlights with LEDs. An integrated spoiler on the tailgate is standard, while nineteen-inch alloy wheels are optional. Inside, the Sedona can be configured to carry seven or eight people. The Discovery Vision "is a vision into the future of Land Rover's new family of leisure vehicles." It also marks the return of the Discovery nameplate to the U.S. Styling wise, the Discovery Vision is taking some cues from the Range Rover family with a silhouette that is much more futuristic and sportier than the current LR4. Design cues to take note of are the rounded front end, laser-powered headlights, a rising character line along handle-less doors, and twenty-three inch wheels. For the interior, the Discovery Vision …

While pictures of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS leaked out a few days ago, Mercedes officially pulled the wraps off the big SUV today at the New York International Auto Show. The GLS is Mercedes' largest and most luxurious SUV, and in this new iteration it is even larger than before in most dimensions, but probably most importantly is the 2.4 inch longer wheelbase. That allows for more seating space. Three fully electrically adjustable seat rows offer all passengers a generous amount of space and outstanding seating comfort. The seats in the third row can be lowered into the floor to increase the trunk space, while the seats in the second row fold flat. The GLS debuts …

Mercedes took the wraps off the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 ahead of its debut at the New York International Auto Show next week. The CLA 35 is the sleeker, more coupe-like version of the Mercedes-AMG A 35 Sedan that was unveiled two weeks ago. Much of the same hardware that goes into the A 35 is here in the CLA 35 as well. Power is rated for 302 hp at 5800 RPM and 295 lb-ft of torque between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm from the 2.0 liter twin scroll turbocharged engine. 4Matic all-wheel drive is standard and can run in front-wheel drive mode or an even 50-50 split front to rear. Like the A 35, the CLA also gets body reinforcements to help with torsional rigidity (which makes …

Ford pulled the wraps off the 2020 Ford Mustang 2.3 Performance Package Mustang today ahead of the New York International Auto Show. Last month we reported that Ford was apparently working on another version of the Mustang with a more powerful Ecoboost 4-cylinder. Well apparently Ford is preparing to show that Mustang at an event during the New York International Auto Show. The new Ecoboost Mustang could possibly wear an SVO badge, going back to the days when one of the hotter Mustangs was also powered by a Turbo-4. Ford is looking to fill a gap in the Mustang lineup. Currently, there is a 125 horsepower gap between the current Turbo-4 powered car and the V8 Powered GT. Chevrolet fills that space with a 335 hp V6 in their Camaro, while Ford's base powerplant offers just 310 hp only when usi…

My Report on the NYIAS April 22, 2006 by z28luvr01 On saturday afternoon I made the trip to the Jacob Javitz center for the New York International Auto Show. Believe it or not, it's the last weekend of the auto show season. You couldn't tell that from the massive crowds of people at the event, however. I'll present my account here. Some of the photographs didn't come quite as nice as I would have liked, and I apologize for that. As soon as visitors enter the Javitz center, they're greeted by a collection of cars whose combined value many of us will never see in a lifetime: The first exhibit I ended up seeing is the Lincoln-Mercury exhibit. It wasn't as dead…

To no ones surprise, Toyota unveiled the Scion iQ concept today at the New York Auto Show. Ever since the iQ debuted in Europe last year, the expectation has been that Toyota would sell the micro compact car as a Scion here in the U.S. to compete against the Smart ForTwo. What surprised us were the modifications made to the iQ for its debut in the States. In keeping with the customization culture that is rampant among Scion owners, the concept features widely flared fenders and super-size 18-inch wheels. Like the current production model, the concept iQ features 3+1 seating with a very compact air conditioning unit that fascilitates an asymmetrical dashboard. This allow…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 4, 2012 The current Chevrolet Impala holds the title of Rental and Fleet Queen in the automotive world. Chevrolet would like to change that and has readied the new 2014 Impala to remove those titles. Compared to the old Impala, the new one is dramatically different. The front end carries the brand's new corporate face, as first seen as the 2013 Traverse. The side loses the jellybean and gets a muscular look. The rear end has overtones of Infiniti M. Once positioned as a rival to traditional luxury sedan, the RL has gone into obscurity. Acura wants to change that. Today, the brand introduced the RLX concept. The RLX concept previews a new design direction for Acura, understated with someelegant lines that make the RLX look more expensive than the outgoing RL. Sure, it's a bit understated. Also, there is new body cladding along the side. We'll update this when we get more information on the Crosstour concept. *UPDATE* William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 4, 2012 Earlier today, Honda showed the Crosstour Concept at the New York Auto Show. Honda is re-aiming the Crosstour at "active consum…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 29, 2012 Last week, Fisker released a teaser drawing of their new Nina that would be shown at the New York Auto Show. This week, a spy photographer caught a partly uncovered Nina as it was being delivered for the show next week. At first glance, the Nina looks like to be a shrunken Karma. The front end and side profile as shown in the pictures carry a lot of cues from the larger Karma sedan. You can't miss the large, red wheels or EVer badge on the back. The back doors have their handles hidden between the window and the C-pillar. And that's all we can tell at the moment from these pictures. We do know from ea…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 2, 2012 Here is the new Lexus ES that will premiere at the New York Auto Show this week; even though we have seen it back in February thanks to a photographer. The front end has the spindle (or predator) grill and LED strips running along the headlights. The back end appears to closely resemble the flagship LS sedan. We'll have more information when the ES is shown later this week. *UPDATE* William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 4, 2012 Today, Lexus unveiled the new ES at the New York Auto Show. And like we expected, the new ES uses Lexus' new design language. What was kind of unexpected …

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 30, 2012 Next week at the New York Auto Show, Lincoln will show the new MKZ and its 15.2 square foot, retractable glass roof. Yes, you read this correctly. According to Lincoln, the roof takes takes ten seconds to either open or close the roof thanks to two motors and parallel rails located on the outer edges of the roof. Once opened, the opening is two-feet deep and two and a half feet wide. When closed, the glass roof is rated at SPF 100 to avoid passengers being sunburned. As for safety, the roof is reinforced with a aluminum and boron steel frame. Source: Autoblog View full article

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 2, 2012 It seems without fail, that when an auto show comes into town, there are leaks to go with it. Example: the new Mercedes-Benz GL. The exterior design borrows heavily from the new SL and SLK; from the large grill, large air intakes, and LED running lamps flanking each side. Mercedes-Benz is keep their mouth shut at the moment as to what powertrains will be in the GL. But from an earlier report in March, the GL350 Bluetec will likely return and a twin-turbo 4.7L engine making more than 400 HP will also make an appearance. *UPDATE* William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 4, 2012 Merced…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 4, 2012 The wait is now over. All of the rumor, speculation, teases, Hot Wheels, video captures, and whatever now can end. SRT introduced the new Viper at the New York Auto Show today. The design of the new Viper is evolutionary. Elements of the first and second generation Viper make their presence known on the new Viper, including the double-bubble roof, hood scoops, gaping side vents, and side exhaust. Under the skin, the Viper has changed in some places. The clamshell hinged hood, roof, and hatch use carbon fiber. The doors are made out of aluminum. The structure, rumored at one time to be from the Alfa Rome…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 29, 2012 Subaru is making next week's New York Auto Show a big deal. Besides the U.S. introduction of the new XV Crosstrek, the Japanese automaker will show off its new 2013 Legacy and Outback. The big news for the Legacy and Outback is a new 2.5L DOHC boxer four that puts out 173 HP and 174 lb-ft of torque. The 2.5L engine can be either equipped with a six-speed manual or the latest version of Subaru's CVT transmission which delivers 24 miles per gallon city, 32 highway and 27 combined for the Legacy. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 4, 2012 Hyundai is giving their lineup a shakeup at the New York Auto Show today. At their press conference, Hyundai introduced two Santa Fes; the Santa Fe Sport and Santa Fe. The Santa Fe Sport will take the place of the current Santa Fe. The design follows Hyundai's "Fluidic Sculpture" theme with new curves, bolder character lines, three-bar hexagonal grille, LED accents, wraparound headlights and taillights. Inside, the design looks similar to the smaller Tucson crossover with better materials used. Standard is Hyundai's Blue Link system, which combines safety, service and infotainment services. The picture is part of a series of daily teaser photos leading up to the truck’s April 5 reveal. Ram is calling this campaign “A Giant Awaits.” So what could this be? Our guess is that will it the new 3.6L Pentastar V6 and eight-speed automatic combo as shown in a SEC filling earlier in March. Acura/Honda tend to push the definition of 'concept' to its limits. Case in point is the 2019 Acura RDX that debuted in production form today in New York. Compared to the concept shown at Detroit, the production model looks mostly the same. There is the large pentagonal grille, floating roof, and character line creases. An A-Spec variant adds gloss black trim and 20-inch wheels. Dimension-wise, the 2019 RDX is about 2.6-inches longer over the outgoing model. The wheelbase increases by 2.6-inches. This allows for more space for passengers (104 cubic feet) and cargo (29.5 cubic feet). For the interior, Acura's designers want to give off the impression of sport with …

Cadillac is updating the CT6 for 2019 with revised styling including a grille inspired by the Escala concept, new headlights, and reshaped trunk lid. The interior boasts an updated infotainment system with a 10-inch 1080P touchscreen and rotary dial controller with physical shortcut buttons to most used functions. But the big news is under the hood. Cadillac is introducing an all-new twin-turbo 4.2L V8 engine with double overhead cams. Making its debut in the all new CT6 V-Sport, the V8 produces 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. Cadillac says this engine is a clean-sheet design, as evidence by the “hot-V” configuration - the turbochargers sit in between th…

The 2019 Cadillac XT4 is an important vehicle for the brand for a number of reasons. It's the first vehicle part of a major product offensive by Cadillac that will see them introduce a new/redesigned model almost every six months through 2021. It also gives Cadillac a contender in the growing small luxury crossover class. The overall design of the XT4 is very similar to the larger XT5 with sharp angles, large front grille, headlights that extend downward to the bumper, and taillights that run from the top of the tailgate to underneath the window. 18-inch wheels come standard, while larger 20-inch wheels are optional. The overall dimensions of the XT4 - 181.1-in…

The Honda Insight has always been a out-there vehicle. The first-generation model was a two-seat hybrid that offered a manual transmission. It would morph into a Toyota Prius clone for the second-generation. The third-generation model, making its debut this week at the New York Auto Show looks somewhat normal. We got our first peek at the Insight's design via a concept at the Detroit Auto Show back in January and not much has changed in the transition to the production model. There is the large front grille, LED headlights, and coupe-like roofline. Step inside and conventional look continues. The dash is lifted from Civic with an 8-inch touchscreen (and actual volume …

Mercedes-Benz used the Geneva Motor Show to introduce an updated version of the C-Class sedan. Next week at the New York Auto Show, Mercedes will follow this up with the introduction of the 2019 C-Class coupe and cabriolet. The exterior is slightly re-worked with a new grille and LED head and taillights. C43 models feature more prominent diffuser and circular exhaust tips at the rear. Inside, all C-Class coupes and cabriolets get a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen as standard. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is available as an option. The 2019 Subaru Forester which debuted yesterday at the New York Auto Show looks very familiar to the current Forester. Despite what the body looks like, there are major changes underneath the Forester's skin. It begins with the platform. The 2019 Forester becomes the latest Subaru model to move onto the company's new global platform. This allows for a 1.2-inch increase in overall wheelbase which Subaru has used to improve rear legroom. In fact, Subaru says the new Forester offers more head, shoulder, and legroom than the outgoing model. As for cargo space, the 2019 Forester boasts 76.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded - up 1.9 cubic feet. Subaru has increased th…

Toyota isn't going to let the new 2019 RAV4 hog the spotlight at next week's New York Auto Show. The automaker will also be debuting the all-new 2019 Corolla Hatchback. We've like the Corolla iM for looking a fair bit more interesting than the Corolla sedan, and the new hatchback continues that. The overall look is more edgy and angular than the model it replaces. Up front is a massive lower grille and J-shaped headlights. Around back, a set of angular taillights and rounded tailgate reminds us of the previous-generation Mazda3. In overall dimensions, the Corolla Hatchback is 1.5-inches longer, 1.2-inches wider, and sits an inch lower than the iM. …

Here is something to consider: Last year, Toyota sold more than 400,000 RAV4s in the U.S. Impressive to say in the least as that model was nearing the end of its lifecycle. But the impressive sales number leaves Toyota in a tough spot when it comes to redesigning. Do they play it safe to continue the upward trend in sales or take a chance? With the 2019 RAV4, Toyota went with the latter option. We were expecting elements of the FT-AC shown at last year's LA Auto Show to appear on the RAV4. We weren't expecting Toyota to take the FT-AC and make into the new RAV4. The chunky, boxy look of the concept has made it into production. The Adventure model looks very SUV-like w…

The Lincoln Aviator is making a comeback as a three-row crossover. At the New York Auto Show, Lincoln unveiled the Aviator Concept which looks like a smaller Navigator. The bold front end, clean side profile, and smooth rear end are here. But that isn't the big news about this concept. For that, you need to look under the Aviator's skin. The concept uses an all-new rear-wheel drive platform that will also underpin the next-generation Explorer. Lincoln hints the production model will have the option of all-wheel drive. Volkswagen's next-step in their crossover offensive made its debut tonight in the form of the Atlas Cross Sport Concept. This is our preview of the five-seat version Volkswagen is planning to launch sometime next year. The concept features a fully-illuminated grille, chunky 22-inch wheels, and tailpipe housings that have a similar design to the taillights. The rumor was true! Today at the New York Auto Show, Volkswagen rolled out the Atlas Tanoak concept (pronounced "Tan-oh-ack", not "Tan-oke"). The mid-size truck concept is based on the MQB-platform that underpins the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport Concept. Design-wise, the Tonoak follows the standard Altas right up to the B-Pillar. From there, Volkswagen's designers added 11-inches to the overall wheelbase to fit a 64.1-inch cargo bed. An integrated sliding rail in the bed allows the truck to carry items such as ladders above the bed. Various concept touches include a light-up grille, 'ATLAS' embossed in the bumper, and a rear taillight that runs the radius of the tailga…

Lincoln has released a teaser video and picture to generate some buzz head of the NY International Auto Show in 3 weeks. The Lincoln Corsair will take over for the Lincoln MKC when it goes on sale late this year. Two of the engine options will carry over, the 2.0T and 2.3T ecoboost 4-cylinders, but a plug-in hybrid variant will bow in as well. The Corsair fills in the entry level of Lincoln's SUV lineup, but if it is anything like the Aviator and Navigator, it will greatly up the ante on interior appointments and luxury. Corsair is a nod to the nautical and aviation naming theme that Lincoln is using for its SUVS. Corsair is unique in that is has been used…

Today at the New York Auto Show, Acura introduced the new 2014 MDX. The production model is pretty much the same vehicle we saw as a concept back at Detroit in January. Not surprising since North American is Land Rover's best market and New York leads the continent for sales. The new Range Rover Sport's exterior looks like someone took the outgoing Range Rover Sport and placed the Evoque's front and rear end to it. It works very well actually, giving it a very aggressive look. Heading inside, the 2014 Range Rover Sport is more even more opulent with a stitched leather dashboard and seats, wide range of interior colors and trim, and a optional 12.3-inch electronic gauge cluster.
