General Motors has extended the plant shutdown at their Lordstown, Ohio plant by 'several weeks' as a way to help cut back on the inventory of the Chevrolet Cruzes. According to The Detroit News, workers at the plant were notified of the extension this morning. GM did not say how long the extension would be. Robert Morales, president of UAW Local 1714 said the union doesn't have any information on how long the shutdown will last. GM has been trying to reduce the amount of Cruzes sitting around. I obviously like news like this. Some analysts feel it will bode well for GM. They also say that it will be the dealers that will "take it on the chin." I immediately went to a couple of GM web sites to see how certain cars were priced and then to GM card to see if the allowances changed (downward). News of this first broke in an interview with Zhang Handong, director of the National Development and Reform Commission's price supervision bureau done by Chinese Newspaper China Daily. After three years of fighting, General Motors has finally gotten the green light from IP Australia to use the Corvette emblem in the country. Wheels Magazine reports that Australia's governing body on trademarks has rejected GM's application for the Corvette emblem four different times. The Employee Pricing Scheme is over so now it appears that a person shopping for a new 2008 would have to pay more for one than they would have paid in September. Something is fundamentally wrong with that picture. The incentives available on the 2008 are tantamount to a joke, given that these cars are held over; the 2009's are already out. The possible alliance would have General Motors looking at BMW's lineup of gas and diesel engines, while BMW is looking at the Voltec powertrain. China Boom: GM up 36.7% in China General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - news), the world's largest auto maker, said on Monday its vehicle sales in China rose 36.7 percent in the first nine months from a year earlier, and expected sales for all of 2006 to jump 30 percent. GM sold 645,680 vehicles via its two local ventures in the January-September period, it said in a statement. Patent Reveals 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission From GM William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 23, 2011 Last Summer, GM announced that it would be working with their partner in China, SAIC to build a new dry dual-clutch automatic transmission. Now, a patent filled by GM has been uncovered. The patent shows a seven speed dual-clutch transmission for front wheel drive vehicles. During a town hall meeting this morning at GM's headquarters, CEO Mary Barra said the report was "extremely thorough, brutally tough, and deeply troubling," and announced changes to the company's policies and processes. “Overall the report found that, from start to finish, the Cobalt saga was riddled with failures which led to tragic results for many,” said Barra. It seems just about all you see here are "Toyota" billboards on nearly every corner. And on TV. The dealers are even stronger here advertising-wise. I can't help but imagine what a difference it might make by advertising Chevrolet and Cadillac here more. Unfortunately, you can forget about trimming Pontiac/GMC/Buick/Saturn to get the money: they don't advertise here either.

The Detroit News is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has ended the daily fine of $7,000 to General Motors after the company turned over the docements and answered the 107 detailed questions about its recall. A Transportation Department spokeswoman said the daily fine ended on June 5th when GM handed over the 315-page internal report from Anton Valukas. “We have what we asked for. The board of US carmaker General Motors has postponed making a decision on who should buy its Opel division, which includes Vauxhall in the UK. The Detroit-based firm said directors had met on Friday to discuss the options but "no decision was taken".
