Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com April 24, 2013 It has been speculated and talked about for months on end, and it now seems to be real. New spy photos released yesterday show that there is an ATS coupe in development. The photos reveal a mule looking like the current CTS coupe running around. The indication that has everyone believing that its an ATS coupe; the proportions. The mule appears to be using a short wheelbase, not a long one like you would see on the CTS coupe. We'll be keeping a close eye on this story and report if we have any new updates. Source: Autoweek William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. He can be reached at w…

Forbes Car review Cadillac SRX Vs. Volkswagen Touareg 10-04-2005 By Dan Lienert The Cadillac SRX sport utility vehicle exemplifies many issues facing Detroit. It is a typical Detroit car in that it is an SUV with declining sales, but it is also a rare American auto: a luxury car that can outsell European competition--excellent competition, at that--by some margin. In the first eight months of 2005, Volkswagen's Touareg SUV matched only 71% of the SRX's American sales. Considering that the SRX might be the best Cadillac, and that the Touareg might be the best Volkswagen, the Caddy's superior sales performance is evidence against the myth that Detroit ca…

Full article @ Automotive Intelligence News 1954 Cadillac La Carrera Panamericana Race Car Rides Again 52 years ago, Keith Andrews and Blu Plemons competed in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana - the Mexican Road Race. Their privately funded 1954 Cadillac Series 62 coupe challenged the factory-backed teams, beating all of them on the final two stages. Mr. Plemons has vivid memories of that race, recalling with delight the adventure by "5 ordinary guys from Colorado". With a car 'loaned' by a local Colorado Springs independent car dealer (Barry Motor Sales), Andrews and Plemons were joined by three friends to take on a factory team that arrived with 28 mechanics, a doctor…

Many people see the Cadillac ELR as General Motors' direct competitor to the Tesla Model S, but GM's head of global product development, Mark Reuss says it isn't. “People like to say the ELR is, but it’s really not. It’s a different car, it’s a different price point. It’s way-different technology,” Reuss said. Ruess goes onto say that he isn't sure if the company has a direct competitor to Tesla. So why do many people consider the ELR a competitor to the Model S? Probably from a quote from former GM CEO Dan Akerson back in September. "If you want to compete head-to-head with Tesla, and we ultimately will, you want to do it with a Cadillac,” Source: The Detroit News …

G. Blake Noble Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 26th, 2012 Yesterday, we reported about OnStar possibly letting word slip about what name GM may apply to the upcoming Holden Commodore-based Chevrolet sports sedan. Apparently, however, OnStar also let the cat out of the bag on another upcoming model from Cadillac. According to this screen capture nabbed yesterday by tech blogger Christopher Price, for a short time OnStar’s 2014 compatibility guide listed the Cadillac ELR. The Cadillac ELR — whose name actually stands for “Electric Long Range” and not “Electric Luxury Roadster” — will more or less be a production version the Volt-based Converj luxury coupe con…

Cadillac Invents Ads for Internet, Considers Podcasts By Herb Shuldiner WardsAuto.com, Mar 1 2006 Cadillac’s marketing chief is searching for new ways to promote the brand. NEW YORK – “If we can’t get you one way, we’ll get you another way,” Liz Vanzura, Cadillac’s global marketing director, vows. Describing to the International Motor Press Assn. here the advertising challenges she faces, Vanzura says she is venturing more into Internet and other advertising venues to combat the Tivo digital recorder scourge. “Tivo is killing us,” she says. 2006 Cadillac XLR-V Pushing the lmits? by Paul A. Eisenstein (2006-03-20) If there's been any bright spot for troubled General Motors in recent years, it's the nascent revival of the automaker's once-formidable Cadillac Division. There was a time, not that many decades ago, when Caddy called the shots in the luxury market, but in recent years, the "Standard to the World" has had to take a back seat to more posh import contenders, like Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Yet with the introduction of its edgy "Art & Science" styling theme, Cadillac showed that it might be down, but it certainly wasn't out. Though it's by no means a world-beater, the first production mod…

Cadillac will be positioning the CT6 as a technology showcase for the brand. Automotive News reports that GM is banking on suite of new technologies to entice customers into checking out the new flagship. “Cadillac is the place where we will experiment with technology our customers want in the future,” said GM Vice President of global product development, Mark Reuss. Ok, calm down, stop breakin $h! in your parent's basement, it's going to be ok. I'm not comparing the two cars, I'm simply curious as to what this first generation's legacy will be. I went into the day expecting to love the 3.6 and like the 2.0T simply because it exists. Much to my surprise, when the day was over I found myself wanting more highway pulls in the 2.0T, more chances to heel toe in the twisties, more, more more! The turbocharged 4 cylinder puts out 275hp/296 lb-ft of torque that is seemingly available at all times. I dropped the thing into 5th on an uphill left hand sweeper, put my foot in it and even at 2000rpm's I felt a substantial shove b…

I wanted to round up a few different thoughts and rumors about the new CTS under one topic. It has been disucussed in various posts but not all at once, so here it goes... Is the new CTS being realigned with the BMW 5 series? The price has gone up in the new generation but it still drastically undercuts the 5er. The size of the cars are almost identicle. I'd say with the 3.6 pfi and CTS compares very favoriably with the new 528. The 3.6 DI is only about .2 slower to 60 than the 535 so there is a good competitor for that car. What there isn't right now is a non V series v8 option to combat the 550. I've heard and read rumors that the new dohc ultra v8 …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 2, 2013 TheDetroitBureau.com had the chance to talk with the Vice President of Global Cadillac, Bob Ferguson. During their conversation, Ferguson said there is the possibility of offering a larger and more luxurious electric vehicle. “We’re bullish on this technology," said Ferguson. He went onto say "This will lead to a progression of (battery-based) cars for Cadillac." General Motors is hoping that Cadillac's first electric vehicle, the ELR, becomes a success, especially in the Northeast and West Coast. This would make the case for this new model a bit easier. The report says this new model would likely use …

As Cadillac moves forward with its rebuild of a naming scheme away from alpha-numerics and back to names, it ran into a connedrum. What to do with Escalade. Cadillac has decided that all of their EV names will end with the letters "iq". Last year, we were introduced to the Lyriq and the Celestiq. Other names that Cadillac has registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office are Ascendiq, Optiq, Symboliq, Vistiq, and Lumisiq. This put Cadillac into a pickle with Escalade. Today, Cadillac confirmed that the all-electric version of the Escalade will be called the Escalade IQ. While obviously a departure from the rest of the lineup, adding the suffix trim allow…

IL Insider: Cadillac Skips Plans for V-Series Utes Date posted: 03-21-2006 DETROIT — Cadillac is looking at a variety of upgrades and enhancements for its family of luxury utility vehicles, including the recently redesigned Escalade, but there are no plans to offer the sort of performance modifications it now provides as part of its V-Series. The first Caddy ute to get a modest makeover is the SRX, which shares its underpinnings with the STS and CTS sedans. As part of a midcycle freshening for model-year 2007, Cadillac will offer a new SRX Sport kit in August that is primarily an appearance package, with unique wheels and tires, grille, rocker panels, and front and re…

Its been a few months since we heard anything about the upcoming Cadillac XT5, the replacement for the SRX crossover. But the folks at Automobile Magazine got their hands on some new spy shots of the XT5 undergoing cold weather testing. As we have previously reported, the XT5 will utilize the upcoming C1XX - Chi platform. Judging from the new spy shots, it looks like the XT5 will keep the slanted grille, but it looks like it will get stacked LED lights. It also appears XT5's profile will become somewhat shorter, but grow in terms of interior space. Powertrains are expected to be the 2.0L turbo-four and 3.6L V6, while front and all-wheel drive will handle getting that po…

2006 Cadillac STS-V Driven to thrill. by Paul A. Eisenstein (2006-04-10) Few stories we've ever run on TheCarConnection.com have ever generated as much reader feedback as our original scoop on the formation of Cadillac's performance-based V-Series. The general response, other than a few cranky skeptics, was "about time." The first offering in the line-up was the CTS-V, appropriate enough considering the base sedan ushered in Caddy's edgy Art & Science styling theme, setting in motion one of the most significant, design-driven turnarounds in domestic automotive history. Now, the luxury maker is readying two more V-Series offerings, the XLR-V, which we reviewed …

China has given Cadillac a bit of breathing room when it comes to sales and working on filling out their lineup. Automotive News reports overall sales of Cadillac vehicles in the U.S. dropped 3 percent, while sales in China rose 46 percent. "We are moving Cadillac from having this very strong U.S.-centric focus to having a global focus. The time will come when we will sell more Cadillacs in China than here," said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen in an interview. With sales going up in China, this gives the brand some flexibility from transitioning a sedan-heavy lineup to adding more crossovers beginning in mid-2018 for the U.S. Currently, the XT5 serves as …

I have to say, sitting in the CTS there really gets the adrenaline going. I was struck by the size seeming much smaller than I expected given the chatter I've seen in the press about it being a 5-series size car - I didn't find this to be the case. The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is taking the German opposition with 640 horsepower coming from a supercharged 6.2L V8. But Automobile magazine is reporting that a more powerful version is coming. “The Cold War continues. I don’t know where it stops, but it’s not at 640 hp, that’s for sure,” said a source. Now the current CTS-V outguns the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63 by about 80 horsepower. But Cadillac believes the V8 is capable of producing more power. We'll be keeping an close eye on this story. It has been awhile since we have heard anything on Cadillac's powertrain plans. But CEO Johan de Nysschen was in a talkative mood about it and Car and Driver was there to catch it. First is a V8 coming the CT6. The V8 will be a 4.2L and feature twin-turbos. This engine isn't based on GM's small-block architecture. The 4.2L displacement is interesting as competitors - mostly Germans - only go up to 4.0L to avoid Chinese taxes on high-displacement engines. Cadillac doesn't expect to sell many CT6s equipped with V8 in China, focusing more on the Plug-In Hybrid version for the market. Power is expected to be “in the upper 400s,” de Nysschen said. Car and Driver specul…

From Motortrend : Cadillac gets serious: CTS coupe and wagon coming-and an Audi A3-fighter for Europe By Editors of Motor Trend Art By Mark Stehrenberger Cadillac thinks it has a winner on its hands with the new CTS and wants to expand the CTS franchise with coupe and wagon variants. The strategy is similar to that employed by Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, which all build coupe and wagon variants of their entry-level sedans. The move will make the CTS more appealing to a broader range of buyers, particularly in Europe. So where does that leave the Europe-only Cadillac BLS? Built on the versatile Epsilon architecture, the front-drive BLS lacks the sporty handling and …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 6, 2013 Stop me if you heard this before. An automaker introduces a new and shiny infotainment system that uses a large screen, capacitive touchscreen and buttons, fancy graphics, and number of other features. Reviewers and people who buy said vehicles with the new infotainment system complain the system is too slow and laggy, thus prompting the automaker to issue an update. Ford is one of those automakers that has and is still going through this process and will soon be joined by Cadillac with their CUE system. According to Wired Autopia, Cadillac will launch an update to CUE that will improve the haptic fee…

I was in Las Vegas from Friday PM through Sunday evening. I had a chance to look at a lot of Cadillacs on the road (love the name of that dealer in Vegas -- Cashman Cadillac), mostly CTSs and some STSs. In general, I think the slab sides are great ,as are the angular lenses and grilles up front. I think, though, that the rear decks and the taillights that have to make the stretch from the bumper up to reach the deck lid are too tall. The whole composition at the rear of the car is too chunky. To go along with this tallness, I think that, from a test sit, the center stack is also too tall and the general feeling behind the wheel of a CTS and STS is a bit claustropho…

Cadillac was one of the first brands to launch a subscription service. Called Book, the service allowed users to access Cadillac's lineup including the Escalade and CTS-V for a monthly fee. But only a year after it launched the program, General Motors is pulling the plug. The Wall Street Journal broke the news this afternoon, learning from sources that the company will end operations of Book by the end of the year. Subscribers will have a 30-day window from the time they notified to turn in their vehicles. A GM spokesman confirmed the closure. According to sources, certain aspects of Book proved to be quite costly. A key example was some of the back-end technolo…

For the lack of anything interesting going on I thought I would drag this out. Last Spring I saw this posted but never heard or seen anything else. Anyone else see or hear anything on this car. I could see this as a great challenger to the Aston Martin or AMG coupe. I think a 2 + 2 GT would work much better at Cadillac and not step on the Corvettes toes. They need space and what would do better than slotting the Cadillac into a GT class the Corvette is not in. http://www.burlappcars.com/2012/05/new-cadillac-coupe-coming-up.html Anyone know any more on the Cadillac Glamour Concept? http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/cadillac-glamour-concept/ Cadillac has put this out …

Well I must say I have been a skeptic of the new 07 suvs coming out. I am also sad to say I work at GM and I have not seen a actual model until the past few weeks. I did see the 07 in shell form quite some time ago which led me down the path of skepticism. My point... I saw an 07 Escalade in pearl white yesterday and I have to say I am impressed! It is an imposing vehicle in person. It is by far the best looking of the bunch, as I have seen the Tahoe and the Yukon already. Then I saw another one on my way home and the person driving it was 'giving er all shes got!' it sounded mean! It had to of had the 6.2 in it. Which I will tout personally as a very …

Cadillac: Small crossover is coming, but no small car Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am BLS: The next generation of the small sedan (on sale in Europe since April) had been under consideration as an entry-level convertible and coupe in the United States, positioned below the CTS. But it turns out the "baby Cadillac" will have no future here. The vehicle's price would be too close to the larger CTS. The BLS is assembled in Trollhattan, Sweden, on the front-wheel-drive Epsilon platform it shares with the Saab 9-3. A station wagon is expected to be added in Europe in mid-2007. CTS: The CTS will be restyled and re-engineered for the 2008 model year. The hig…

2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe Full Test Link We all make our own fashion choices. Neckties, tiger-print parachute pants, 4-inch heels, body piercings or tattoo art (hopefully not as an ensemble). Sometimes it's painful to be a conforming nonconformist. Sometimes it's better to buy a sport sedan. What does this have to do with the arrival of the two-door 2011 Cadillac CTS Performance Coupe? It's about fashion. The kind of fashion that comes at the expense of comfort, utility or functionality — or simply being able to pass through an airport metal detector without setting off the alarm. If Style Is Everything and Function Is Nothing... Then our rear-wheel-drive 2011…

No Discount for You: Cadillac Holds Price on '07 Escalades Date posted: 03-21-2006 DETROIT — Customers hoping for a price break on the redesigned 2007 Cadillac Escalade editions may be disappointed to learn that General Motors will hold the line on prices as the vehicle debuts over the next several months. GM said the long-wheelbase '07 Escalade ESV will go on sale in May, with its suggested retail price unchanged from 2006 at $59,680, including destination, for the AWD model. The standard Escalade AWD went on sale last month and is priced at $57,280. The two-wheel-drive version of the standard Escalade won't reach dealers until August; its sticker price will remain a…

As part of their ambitions to compete with European automakers on their home soil, Cadillac was working on a range of four- and six-cylinder diesel engines. According to Automotive News, the upcoming XT4 was expected to have a diesel engine by 2020 and other models would follow. There was also plans about selling diesels for Cadillacs in the U.S. But Cadillac President Steve Carlisle said development has been put on hold. "We have been working on diesel, but the markets may be changing more quickly than we anticipated," he said to AN. "Going forward, we will focus on electrification." The diesel program at Cadillac got hit with a double whammy over the past…

Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen is trying to sell Cadillac's lowest-volume dealers (selling 50 or less models in a year) on transitioning to a virtual showroom. Automotive News says de Nysschen outlined this concept to dealers last week during national brand meetings in Southern California. The concept involves a dealer going to a concierge-style approach where salespeople would visit prospective buyers either at home or work, equipped with a touchscreen device with vehicle configuration or virtual-reality units. Dealers who go with this concept will also not stock Cadillac vehicles. Instead, orders would be coming from regional inventory center. de Nysschen …

Automotive News reports that at a at a national dealer meeting in Las Vegas last month, General Motors introduced the new ATS Coupe and 2015 Escalade. As we reported last week, Cadillac has begun to work on the ATS Coupe. Dealers who were at the meeting say coupe is expected to reach showrooms next spring. Dealers also said that executives hope the new coupe will help bring in a younger crowd. Cadillac is keeping quiet on the powertrain lineup, but Automotive News guesses that ATS Coupe will have the same powertrain lineup as the ATS Sedan. As for the 201…

2015 will mark the launch of two Cadillac V-Series models; the ATS-V and CTS-V. But there will more V-Series models in the cars according Cadillac's chief engineer. “The ‘V’ will be on more models than today,” said Dave Leone, chief engineer for GM's luxury brand to The Detroit Bureau. Which cars will get the V treatment is unknown at the moment, but Leone says they will not go crazy with it. “Don’t expect to see an Escalade-V, or an SRX-V. We will focus on platforms which lend themselves to performance driving,” said Leone. Speculation at the moment has CT6 being the next model to get the V treatment. More and more automakers are beginning to roll out high-performance driving schools to those who purchase one of their performance vehicles. Cadillac is the latest one. Starting with the 2017 Cadillac ATS-V and CTS-V, buyers will be eligible for a two-day course at Cadillac's V-Performance Academy. The Academy is based at Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club near Las Vegas, Nevada. The course "is designed for drivers of all experience levels and includes dynamic car control exercises, visual skill development, and proper cornering techniques." There will also be time in the classroom to explain various things. We'll admit Cadillac's V-Performance Academy …

Cadillac is undergoing a number of changes. From the appointment of a new head to new models heading out to dealers, and more that are to be revealed. Now, the luxury automaker is moving to a new home. Yesterday, General Motors announced that Cadillac will be moving to a new headquarters in New York City. The new HQ will be located in the SoHo area with a "multipurpose brand and event space in conjunction with modern loft offices." At this time, Cadillac is deciding who will move to the headquarters at this time. However, technical operations will remain in Michigan. The move is expected to finish up next year. “With the relentless upward repositioning of successive new…

Cadillac has been one of the few brands at General Motors to mostly avoid the Ignition Switch recall drama, but that doesn't mean they have their own set of problems. The brand has seen sales slip 2.2 percent within the first five months of this year, a bit surprising considering the luxury market is booming. “The brand has not grown as well this year as it did last year. They do have a greatly improved product line, but they need to have that produce results. They need to connect more with the consumer,” said IHS Automotive analyst Tom Libby. Not helping matters is the question of who leading Cadillac at the moment. Bob Ferguson, Cadillac's global chief and former lobb…

Anyone want to take a gander at how many Cadillac ELRs are sitting on dealers? 100? 200? 500? Try 1,688 ELRs. According to Autodata, Cadillac dealers at the end of April had 1,688 ELRs or a 719 day supply. To help reduce the stock, Cadillac is offering their dealers a bit of an incentive. The Wall Street Journal reports that Cadillac is offering dealers up to $5,000 for those who offer test drives of the ELR this and next month to consumers. To qualify, a ELR demo vehicle must have a minimum of 750 miles and be logged by a dealer. There's an added incentive of $2,000 for every ELR sold in July, and $1,000 in August. "For many drivers, electrification is still foreign to …

Today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Cadillac unveiled the refreshed Cadillac CT5 sedan. CT5 retail sales have been on an upswing of late, increasing over 35%. In a time when sedan sales are stagnating or disappearing entirely, Cadillac's positive numbers have given hope that the luxury sedan market isn't quite dead yet. The refresh of the CT5 begins with the exterior. A new larger, bolder grille is flanked by new vertically stacked headlamps and Cadillac's signature fangs. The LED light clusters feature an animated startup sequence that "celebrates" you as you approach the car. Two new exterior colors are available; Deep Space Metallic…

New Cadillac Escalade shines By Anita Lienert WASHINGTON, D.C. -- One of the most critical moments in the redesign of the Cadillac Escalade happened three years ago when the General Motors premium brand rented a Hollywood film studio for an evening, set up a full bar and invited A-list celebrities, athletes and rappers to preview an early version of the 2007 model. Oscar winner Adrien Brody -- who will soon take delivery of a 2007 Escalade EXT -- and the rest of the glittering crowd said they loved the new Escalade's added chrome and the exterior details borrowed from the legendary Cadillac Sixteen show car. But they also had a warning: The 20-inch wheels, the bigges…

I was obviously very excited, but was expecting to see a at least a few tahoes driving around, but never a new escalade! But things only got better! As my friend and I went outside the show to take a break and head over to Subway to get lunch, I was crossing the road and I saw A pewter 2007 Yukon! When a Cadillac CTS-V and the brand-new Jaguar XFR arrived at our offices, it was obvious a proper road trip was in order. But not just any old road trip would do. We needed to take these two pinnacles of sports-sedan-dom on an epic adventure, somewhere they could stretch their really long legs. After all, the CTS-V and XFR pack some serious heat, armed with 500-plus-bhp supercharged V-8s, suitably stiffened and electronically adjustable suspension systems, big brakes, limited…

In light of the fatal crash involving a Tesla Model S and Autopilot back in May, automakers are reconsidering their plans for rolling out their autonomous technologies. General Motors was planning to introduce Super Cruise on the Cadillac CT6 sometime next year. But in light of Tesla crash, GM is rethinking their plans. “We aren’t putting a specific date on it,” said GM CEO Mary Barra at a cybersecurity conference. Officials told The Detroit Bureau later on that the feature would still appear next year. This would be corroborated by a Cadillac spokesman to Motor Trend. “Right now, the plan continues to be that we will introduce [super Cruise] in the Cadilla…
