As I've mentioned, there's this 96 Nissan Hardbody pickup for sale that I'm seriously considering. It's a regular cab, standard bed with a 2.4L 4cyl and 5spd manual. The is in mostly good condition with a few minor rust bubbles around the rear fenders and a ghetto fabulous front bumper. It appears to be solid to my eyes underneath, as well. It's recently inspected. It's advertised at $1999. Tomorrow morning... well... later this morning considering the time... I'm going to look at it in detial, test drive it, and if all goes well on those fronts, I'm going to haggle with salesmen. I would like to get the price down to around $1500 as I see it now. Before I do all th…

So, my car insurance for this term went up $234... that's for 6 months. Two accidents with the Sierra and two speeding tickets will take a toll, I understand that. Still, it seemed a huge penalty, especially with loyalty discounts I was given. As the spokesmodel went over all my information, she asked me to verify that I am RENTING my home. When I informed her I own my home, suddenly my car insurance premium went back down $45! And they are sending me a refund for the last term of $28, for being a homeowner. I have used the same agent since I moved to PA in 2003... I have my homeowner's insurance and car insurance through the same agent, different companies. I …

1966 Chevrolet Turbo Titan III Here's an article in Time magazine in '65. It mentions the Titan. From the Magazine | U.S. Business Toronados, Turbos & TV Posted Friday, Jul. 23, 1965 While Washington talked safety last week, Detroit showed off some stylish new and future wares. Oldsmobile introduced its racy, 375-h.p. Toronado, first U.S. car with front-wheel drive since the Cord phased out in 1937. Some foreign automakers, notably France's Citroën, also market front-wheel cars. According to Olds engineers, front-wheel drive offers more traction and stability than conventional rear drive; it also eliminates the hump on the floor (because the transmission and d…

A friend of mine that I have known for 30 years talked to me on the phone tonight. He and I shoot pool all the time when we get together. Anyway, we tells me he has been going to a new place to shoot pool, which he thoroughly enjoys. Turns out it is a strip joint. He tells me he shoots pool for a while then gets a table dance. He's been going once a week for a while now. He tells me that a stripper pulled him aside, and gave him her number and said she wanted to get with him outside the club. Now thats a first. I need to check this out when I go to visit him next month. There's more to the story, but I will leave that off here in the interest of keeping it clea…

On Wedensday a new CTS Sport (2007) came in, and I spent a good two hours getting her all ready to be put out on the lot. It looked sweet when I got done with it, and I have the pics to prove it In other news, I got to drive a new Tahoe to the gas station along with an SRX V6, CTS (not this one) which was a lot of fun, SRX V8 (loaner car), some other loaner cars that aren't worth mentioning, HHR, and just about an hour ago, an SSR! The SSR was definetly the coolest of the bunch, people were just staring at it the whole time.

So, I don't plan on having the Toyota for too much longer. If it doesn't sell (seems like this will be the case), I'm just going to trade it in. My dilemma pertains to the recurring fact that I am beyond indecisive. I look at vehicle after vehicle, day after day, and I can never whittle down what exactly I want. My tastes are always changing based on the flavor of the day (usually something impractical). What I do know is this: I need a car. It should be cheaper to own (incl. gas, ins, etc.). It mustn't be a snore. I can't do another car like the Avalon; it kills me everyday. It must be a stick or at least a dual-clutch that isn't made by Ford/Fiat. It should have a f…

Hey guys, I know I should probably add this to my Long-term project thread, but this is rather profound to me. I believe I have found my project car. Now I must wait until I come up with the 1,000 required to procure such vehicle. Turns out there's a little abandoned house down the road from my grandparents and parents houses. Sitting in the backyard happens to be 1 1963, possibly 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix. The car is red in color with a white interior (don't ask my how I found this out considering the "no trespassing" signs up). There is rust along the rear window sill, but it doesn't appear to be rust-through. I heard through a friend of a friend, whom is also i…

I don't mean vacation destinations here, I mean a place without neighbors you can see without driving. A place where property values aren't measured in dollars, and "society" is a distant rumor. I think I want to spend a few years in a place like that. Maybe even the rest of my life. What place would you nominate?

I took a trip down memory lane as I sifted through posts of years past. I dug all the way back to 2005 when I still sought after the affection of a female and had just started driving my Grand Am. Cars You'd Like To Own...

To start, this is probably a "been there, done that" thread, but I really don't much care. The question is simple: What car do you forsee or would like to see in your future, new or used. And what might come -- such as the up and coming Camaro -- does not count. It must already be setting on a car lot somewhere. Here's what I'm seeing in or considering to make a part of my future (which more than likely translates to late summer or late fall). 1998 Chevrolet Camaro with about 70,000 to 90,000 miles for around $6,000 to $9,000, Black or Silver. Or... 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado for $2,500 to $8,500, "High Toned Son of a Bitch", Black Only And I won't rule out... 19…

I got myself out of bed early Wednesday morning to get a haircut before work. I got to the barber shop, noted the people ahead of me (couple of middle-aged guys, an older gentleman and his grandson, about 5-8 years old), and plopped down in a chair to "rest my eyes". Within minutes, the TV blared a promo for the new movie, "Cars". My ears perked slightly, in part because I'm eager to see this movie. The promo ended, and I went back to "resting my eyes", though not for long. Within seconds, a voice piped up: "That movie doesn't look good." Suddenly, my dreary eyes were not so dreary anymore. I looked at the young kid who had just uttered those words. While my mind…

Thanks to Satty's thread about W-bodies, it's allowed me to start a thread on what kind of tires people prefer. I've never really figured out the right way to decide on and purchase new tires. I used Consumer Reports back in '97 and didn't like the tires they recommended!! The Malibu is in need of new rubber, and I'm thinking of going with Goodyear Assurance ComforTred (current tires are factory-installed Bridgestone Insignia SE P215/60R16 94S M+S <--- not great tires IMO). Whenever I've had Goodyear tires on a car, I've always liked the way they've performed. Now I'm actually holding off buying them because I was waiting to see if there would be any good summer in…

Well I know theres not to many metal heads here but I wanted to tell everyone I went to see Queensryche Operation Mindcrime in its new entirity Thursday night, at Albanys old Palace Theater. Not the best place acoustically for heavy music. I saw Rush and Blue Oyster Cult there twice 30 years ago and the place just boomed, resonating on a certain bass frequency in the Balcony, but they were very loud concerts. People like Santana, Robert Cray, Jean Luc Ponty, Jeff Beck/Jan Hammer and even Uriah Heep did much better acoustically. Anyhow the Queensryche soundman did an excellent job considering and it was not stageringly loud. We abaondoned the balcony and went downstairs w…

A recent survey by a professor of his economics students finds the following: The median student believes that 35% of workers earn the minimum wage and a substantial fraction think that a majority of workers earn the minimum wage (Actual rate in 2007: 2.3% of hourly-paid workers and a smaller share of all workers earn the minimum wage) When asked about profits as a percentage of sales the median student guessed 30% (actual rate, closer to 4%). When asked about the inflation rate over the last year (survey was in 2009) the median student guessed 11%. Actual rate: much closer to 0%. Note, how important such misconceptions could be to policy. From the domestic automakers good journalist friend........yup you guessed it: Christine Tierney! Sales of import brands rose sharply in the first half of August as Detroit automakers ran out of new car and truck supplies after extending generous employee-style discounts to all buyers. General Motors Corp., which initiated the employee discount plan in June, saw its share of the U.S. market drop from 29 percent in July to below 25 percent in the first two weeks of August, according to online auto research site Edmunds.com. Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Corp., which matched GM's plan in July, fared slightly better in the first half of August while Japanese…

Thought I'd start a thread in the spirit of the old Cheers and Jeers threads that looked back at the previous year here at the forums. 2006 may not have been a great year in reality (do we really have to go there?) and here at the forums (server problems among others), but there are still plenty of good things we can highlight. For example, here's one of the first designs posted in the Member Showcase section for 2006 (that have image links that still work, anyway) by budding C&G designer, member, and Designer's Guild Founding Member, American_Revolution2005 (this actually predicted the 2008 Magnum refresh in many ways -- way to go, man). Today I was cleaning the wheels on my car to avoid them getting pitted out from all the salt and sand that have been put on the roads lately, when I noticed dozens of little rust spots all over the side bodywork of the car. I freaked. I had spent so much time over the summer claying and waxing, trying to get it prepared for winter, and there were these tiny pin drop rust spots everywhere. I started running through my mind what could have caused it and decided it was probably all the salt they have been putting on the roads lately. So I took it into the garage and started wiping it down with Fast Wax to remove salt residue and found out it was also removing most of t…

http://www.cnn.com/2007/AUTOS/06/06/why_hy...suvs/index.html gas used = miles/mpg inverse proportional relationship is getting attention! Over 15,000 miles, 16.5 mpg = 909 gallons used. 20 mpg = 750 gallons used. 3.5 mpg difference = 159 gallons saved. To save as much on a car, 26 mpg = 577 gallons used. 36 mpg = 418 gallons used 10 mpg difference = 159 gallons saved. The relationship is inversely proportional, a hyperbola. gallons used = miles/miles per gallon y = k/x mpg improvements on low mpg vehicles are much more significant than mpg improvements on high mpg vehicles. aka "diminishing returns" if you're mathphobic.

So, in the interest of spicing things up around here, I'm bringing over one of my thread ideas from MT. The premise of this is I take a review of a new model, and then give you roughly the same amount of money to either buy that car, or something else, so long as it exists in roughly the same realm. In other words, if it's a sports car in question, you can't chose a Jeep. Similarly, if it's a truck, you can't take a luxury sedan. So today we'll focus on the new Audi TTS. Car & Driver just posted up their review here- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2016-audi-tts-test-review- for those interested. Seems like a pretty sweet package, though the TT has never been …

Well, it seems that someone really wants to get into my house. When I got home this afternoon, the other half of the same sliding door that got broken out before (it is still boarded up with half-inch plywood) was broken out. There is a screen there with a slash mark through it, and this time I guess, the screen slowed down the momentum of the blunt object because they were only able to break out the outer pane of a double pane window. I am so pissed. Somebody knew I wasn't home I guess, which makes me think it has to be somebody very local. I always park in the garage, so during the day it is hard to tell if I'm home... unless the person watched me leave this mornin…

This also seemed like a place I' like to work because it's family owned and it had a very friendly atmosphere. Ok, so I have a Sunbeam toaster. I made some toast with the temperature selection set on "4.5". It was dark brown, but still good. Now the fun part. You know those friends that come up with those "ideas"? Well, I had one at my house today. He suggests to toast bread at selection "7". Do you know what "7" does to bread on this 3823-100 model Sunbeam toaster? It gives you a square charcoal briquette and the scent of burnt popcorn. Now, this just might be me, but I feel that temperature "5" should be "7", or have "5" as the highest setting. As cool as it is to deal hands on with brand new Cadillacs & Chevrolets the car biz can be so unrewarding. 55-70 hrs a week & for WHAT? The money is not there like it used to be. Not sure but I might be moving on soon. Too bad really, when I started working at this dealer 2 months ago I had every intention of staying for at least one year, possibly two.

... with the full-size Blazer and 2-door Tahoe have gotten me wondering. I wonder how long I can tap the used market for the great stuff GM no longer builds - the stuff I actually like. Almost all of those cars are getting difficult to find in pristine, low-mile, condition. The 2-door SUVs are a great example as they never built enough of them for the demand, consequently they have been in short supply from the outset. This has kept prices quite high even for very high-mileage examples. Seems to me, the same will be true for the GTO and other interesting GM cars going forward. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy rehabing the stuff I find, but it would be nice to find something i…

Since we've got a thread going on about how we should let the government control what we eat and tell everyone how much we hate overweight people, let's switch gears to a bit. What's your favorite exercise? My favorite is swimming. I love the water and have always enjoyed swimming, particularly underwater. Back when my girlfriend and I lived in Wichita, the apartment place had it's own pool and we would go their almost every day. Before that we had friend who had a fitness membership at a Windham hotel, and would go swimming fairly regularly. Sadly we don't go anymore. Since I can't come up with $2k... I'm stranded with only $2600 to buy a vehicle. I'm suspecting my parents would atleast be able to help me out a little bit, so I'd say my limit is $3k. What can I get for a lousy $3k? Give me suggestions. However, I'm still going to continue to be picky. I will only consider cars with 4cyls, manual trannies, and two doors. I might consider a sedan depending on what it is. That means... no floaty Buicks and such. As far as reliability... f@#k it. As long as the car itself runs good, I'll deal with it regardless of it's reputation.

What have you been listening to lately? Today I heard a Kid Rock song on the radio that I haven't heard on the radio (I don't even think I've heard this on the radio, but I have it on a CD somewhere). And lately I've been trying to listen to more 80s and progressive rock stuff. Plus, I'm likin' some current hits like I'm in Love with a Stripper, Rodeo, and Lean Wit it Rock Wit It.

1957 was a great year for cars...Ford outsold Chevrolet, Chevrolet introduced its legendary Bel Air, a few companies introduced fuel-injection to American cars, and Chrysler reached a peak in styling with the Forward Look. Especially nice were the '57 Imperial and De Soto Adventurer convertibles. Check out these two '75s going up for sale soon...the Imperial was even owned by Howard Hughes at one point. What do you think of them? http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2793

If you ask me why I come up with bone-headed ideas don't ask me why or where they come from... Last spring when I still had extra cash before another new Pontiac, new kitchen gadgets for the wife, and a son heading into college I looked into having our home professionally landscaped. Yeah well the two men father and son biz I had doing it had a slight problem the father fell off his roof and isn't doing so hot so now I am stuck landscaping. I have decent sized large front shrubs that need to go... The folks that were going to help landscape had a 2006 Silverado 2500HD with a Duramax and were going to "tow out the shrubs". Well I have got thinking and a hitch needs to go o…

I live near Flint, MI and I know that GM didn't move its headquarters to Detroit until about 1923...I'd like to find out where their original headquarters were located up here. I've been checking all over for weeks on end trying to find out where it was. Does anybody know or have any ideas on how TO find it?

Just watch this really quick video: http://www.boardsmag.com/screeningroom/commercials/3421/ My wife is a makeup artist - so when someone comes up to her and says "make me look like that" she'll need a computer to do it. I always knew they used photoshop to clean up the imperfections and the "cottage cheese" thighs, but this is crazy.

How long is your work commute? If it's a long commute, how do you manage it? I'm curious because I a company has contacted me with interest, but if I hypothetically got the job, it's 1 hour and 49 minutes each way. I don't know if I could do that 5 days a week. If you have a commute like that, how do you manage it?

Went to my local Chevrolet dealer trying to figure out if I could test drive a Sonic nRS...Ocnblu has me thinking... But Eve, the saleswoman I usually talk to, says that there are no Sonic RS's available within 600 miles. Is this thing special order only? Also, I would really like to own one, but am worried about a lot of instant negative equity as small cars usually depreciate like crazy, and this thing is a little pricey... Although it does seem like one heck of a car. Info, please? Thoughts?

Jeff Gordon won the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix last night. The win was Gordon's 76th career victory, tied him with the late Dale Earnhardt for 6th on the all time list. Gordon also won the pole for the race giving him 59, that ties him with Darrell Waltrip for 4th on the all time list. All but one race this season has been won by a Chevy driver. Only the race at California speedway was won by another manufacturer, when Matt Kenseth driving a Ford won the race. Here is the finishing order from Phoenix. 1 24 Jeff Gordon Chevrolet DuPont 2 20 Tony Stewart Chevrolet The Home Depot 3 11 Denny Hamlin Chevrolet FedEx Kinko's 4 48 Jimmie Johnso…

Something about driving it with the windows down and the sunroof up made it great... Also where my username came from. I saw a beautiful 86 vert in red driving down the road.....and the flashbacks begin all over again. We could agrue all day about the crap from the 80s.....but I don't care. I still want my 70s GM ir…

Bankrupt Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation's second-biggest consumer electronics retailer, said Friday it failed to find a buyer and will liquidate its 567 U.S. stores. The closures could send another 30,000 people into the ranks of the unemployed. "This is the only possible path for our company," James A. Marcum, acting chief executive, said in a statement. "We are extremely disappointed by this outcome." The company had been seeking a buyer or a deal to refinance its debt, but the hobbled credit market and consumer worries proved insurmountable. The liquidation of Circuit City is the latest fallout from the worst holiday shopping season in four decases. People …

With the official start-of-holiday-shopping day known as "Black Friday" quickly approaching, what is everyone asking for this year? Due to our financial situation, we're concentrating less on adults (including ourselves) and more on making the Christmas holiday for the children in our family a nice one. Anyone hoping to get that one (or two or three or more!) special present? If so, what is it?

Or do I not have the worst luck ever? Seriously... just last week, I simply rode my 300EX into town for something to do. I ran out of gas and got picked up by the cops. All the while throughout the past 6 months, I've been without a car. I haven't been able to get another car or sell my GA. I haven't been about to sell my 'in excellent condition' 300EX. Now, I can't even get a loan, but it doesn't matter since the car I wanted has been sold. Needless to say, I absolutely cannot get a job without a car. That's reality. So... when trying to fix my GA, me and my dad can't. Don't know what's wrong with it nor what to do to it. Because of all this, I've been wanting to put m…

Since I know you guys all love Chrysler vehicles so much I thought I'd share. I want these in my car...it's just how I had always envisioned them (minus the emblem).

Well, as I've said many times, after I test drove an Acadia back in January, I've been infatuated with the Lambdas ever since. As I always do, I attempted to peak some interest in the queen mum--her Suburban is right at 3 years, which is actually the LONGEST she's owned any of the past 4 vehicles--and she what she thought. Still SUV comfort and space, but much more refined, better gas mileage, and much lower pricing than another new GMT-900. Didn't immediately get such a strong response--well, aside from a while ago when she saw the Enclave concept on Motorweek and said "Wow, what's that?!"--until just recently. Out of the blue I was asked "Those Acadias, what kind o…

Here’s the fourth annual list of the best and worst of GM and C&G during the past year. If the year could be summed up in one word, it’s “disaster.” There were plenty of natural disasters, most notable being Katrina, and GM had its own disasters to wade through. Prominent passings included Johnny Carson, Rosa Parks, and the only Pope that many people knew. News regarding GM came at a steady drip—of bad news, including the Fiat fiasco, pension and health care woes, the Delphi mess, falling market share, junk bond status, and record low stock prices. C&G experienced its own woes with glitches the first seven months of the year, and then the site went offline al…
