I just wanted to tell you all, I think the new layout sucks. They made everything harder to find IMO and it's a little "overdone" IMO. I much prefer the old layout where you have a the list of manufacturers and then each model over this new check off the models you want, or click for more choices and all these new pop up windows to branch off. Meh. My rant is done.

Today I was driving home from work getting off at Jordan Creek Parkway, which runs through the heart of upper-middle class suburbia in West Des Moines. I was in the lane to the left and zooming up beside me was a gouge-my-eyes-out bright orange Honda Civic, with white American Racing wheels, body kit, small wing, tint, altezza headlights, fart can...the whole works. His car sounded like a weedwacker on steroids. But the best part was that the guy had orange vinyl graphics covering the width of the window that boldly said "All Show, No Go." At least the guy was honest! ------------------ While I was looking for a good rice picture, I came across this....nice 1987 H…

Have you seen the new Orville Redenbacher microwavable popcorn commerical? If not, check it out here first: It's creepy! This guy has been dead since 1995, yet the company decided to resurect him for their new ad??? He looks fake - I watched E!'s "Talk Soup" show yesterday and they said it was a combination of live action, Orville's head & lots of CG effects. But I think it's creepy. Especially in the beginning of the commercial, I think all the people in it think it's creepy to see a dead guy boppin' to an MP3 player and making popcorn- just look at their faces (especially the white guy with glasses)! And best of all, at the end of the commercial he says…

This article from RoadandTrack has got me thinking about several aspects of dealership markups. The article has also got me thinking about several other things. Internal combustion versus battery electric. The article is about dealership markups and the Escalade but brings up several interesting ideas that would be nice if we could discuss. https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a39122714/dealers-added-an-average-of-728-to-every-new-cars-msrp-in-2021/

I beg of Chevrolet to be daring and build the SIlverado 427 Concept in balck. I beg of Chevrolet to do this. It would be like the 454 Silverado agian. This would be a great SS replacement. The 427 would bring in buyers as well.

So here goes. It's Friday, 2pm (got out of work early) By Saturday night I'll be finished moving out of the old place... that means ALL of my $hit has to be gone, the '59 Buick and the rest of the fleet incl. my 69-ish IH Cub Cadet are already at the new place... but I have EPIC amounts of pack ratted crap in the basement to move & he clock is ticking. (you laugh now but someday all those 1950s and 1960s Hot Rod magazines and thousands of car emblems will be worth a king's fortune!) Also, Sunday (the day it will be snowing) I will be taking my first roadtrip of 2009. We'll be headed 146 miles north to almost the Canadian border, …

Nobody wants to relive 2020, which was full of pain, death, financial ruin, and overall misery, but here’s a quick summary of what happened. It started with impeachment proceedings and the shocking death of Kobe Bryant in a helicopter crash in the fog. In March it was clear that the COVID-19 virus had taken a foothold in the U.S., and teleworking, distance learning, and Zoom started to become part of everyday life, and going to movies, gyms, traveling, and eating out largely became things of the past. In April, the Centers of Disease Control recommended everyone to wear masks in public, but they became a symbol of a culture war rather than protection during a public…

All right boys and girls, I know I've already said that I've got a baby on the way, but now I can give all of y'all an update. Everything is going fine, Amy (the wife) had a doctor's appointment today and had the ultrasound done. Its going to be a girl! I'm pretty well stoked about it, and so is everyone else in the family. We've already got a name decided on, Heather Anna, honoring my sister-in-law and Amy's cousin who were killed in car crashes not too long ago. Everything looked great, it was really awe-inspiring to see the baby sucking its thumb and kinda waving at the ultrasound thing as it passed over. Anyway, I know I'm kinda blubbering on, but I just wanted …

After an entire month of above average temperatures and little if any snow, it looks like winter is finally ready to make a comeback. A Blizzard Watch is currently in effect for my county (Westchester, NY), along with approx. 10 other counties in Southern New England and Long Island. I'm sure Paulie (LI) is getting ready for this as well. Snow is expected to overspread my area in the early afternoon tommorow and become heavy through tommorow night and Sunday. Last I heard whiteout conditions were likely for late tommorow night. Most forecasts are calling for 8-12", though some are forecasting higher amounts. I'll have to get out early tommorow before the storm arr…

My point and shoot Canon SD850IS camera does not start. It initially had problems focusing (as BV and DF noted when I took some pictures of my cars). Now it does not even turn on charge even with the battery fully charged. I tried various things like plugging to the computer and trying to start, using spare battery, etc. with no avail. Do you know any place which will fix it and how much do you think it is to fix? I like the camera for the simple facts that it was handy, had a view finder along with the screen and had great image quality - something which was must for me while taking pictures in the field. I do not want to spend close to $300 for a new one of similar capa…

I've been eying this 81 'Vette for a couple months, and he's lowered the price a couple times, without any bites. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/cto/902101037.html http://www.buysell.com/root/detail/BC/Coll...blk_beauty.aspx The descriptions suck, and are off-putting, but I may give them a call to see it. I've looked at a couple C3 places to see what the story on these vehicles are in terms of rust, corrosion issues and the like. However, I'm wondering if there are any words from the wise here about anything I should be looking at/concerned about, or any pointed questions I should ask him over the phone?

Went to see Transformers last night with Julie & a few friends. I was very happy with the movie. Let's just say that it's quite possibly THE best movie of all time. It makes Casablanca seem like a B- rated porno. By contrast Gone With The Wind would be a made for TV Lifetime movie & Citizen Kane would be Speed 2. All joking aside here's 10 reasons why the movie kicked A$$! 10. Even a 1974 Camaro rocks given some TLC & a little faith 9. Mustang = BAD, Camaro = GOOD 8. If Transformers DID exist they sure as hell WOULD only disguise themselves as RWD cars... 7. As cool as it was the catroon can't hold the candle to todays CGI 6. The Energon Cube mak…

A human foot was discovered partially submerged in the water near Westham Island in Ladner, B.C., Delta police said Monday. It's the fifth human foot police have found in the province in less than a year. "As far as it being linked to other partial remains found, we haven't dismissed that. We're considering all possibilities," Const. Sharlene Brooks told CBC News. A couple out for a walk in the 2800 block of Savage Road spotted a shoe floating in the water around 10:30 a.m. and called police, she said. Investigators said it's a left foot. "Right now we're working very closely with the B.C. coroners service to identity the person whose remains we have recovered," B…

Ok, I'm in the Southland for the weekend (when I purchased the ticket, I didn't know I'd be here last month for the AIA convention). So, I forgot to bring CDs and I have to channel surf. So Cal keeps changing but some things have stayed the same for years. KRTH (K-earth) is still an oldies station, "The Wave" is still jazz, and KBIG is still generic pop. So, yesterday, I drive out to Rancho Mirage (bolts onto Palm Springs) and I'm on KRTH and I hear "Spill The Wine." What a goof-ass song, complete with the lady speaking Spanish in the background. Absurd. Then, I'm driving back and there's Disco Saturday Night ( ) on KBIG. I heard "Lady Marmalade" (voulez vous cou…

Rolling down the freeway this morning, right around sunrise, I see a white Impala 6-8 car lengths ahead of me, in my lane. As I get closer, I notice it seems oddly narrow. Then I get closer, and notice it's missing the gold bowtie, but has a blue emblem instead. A blue oval. D'oh. Turns out to be a current gen Focus sedan. Anyone else have a moment like this, confuse two different, unrelated models that up close really seem to be nothing alike, but from a distance.... similar taillights, decklid, fascia..

...I have two issues to discuss: :) 1. I've been using Firefox for quite some time now and haven't recorded a single problem since I began. However...lately I've begun getting pop-ups from Internet Explorer, even though I haven't used it since Firefox was installed. I haven't deleted IE from my computer yet, so is it time to do so? (not sure if it's needed for anything) 2. My computer is a Dell Dimension 4600 that's just barely two years old. It's been wonderfully problem-free and seemingly unnaffected by age, regular use, or the programs I've installed (especially in contrast with my sister's Gateway). However, lately…

I'm a bit sad, and a bit upset too. I sold the Wagon about a month back, to what I though was a nice Vet (he was very thankful) for him to get around. I saw the car around town for a few days, and all seemed well. That was-until today. I get a letter in the mail- A notice of Abandoned Vehicle. It's been in there about a week-and want me to pay big bucks to get it (almost 500 bucks) out. This is not the way I wanted to see the Cav go. You figure it will go to it's new owner, and you won't have to see it again (and hope that it was well cared for). I have to go tomorrow to get this sorted out. Since I no longer have the title-it looks like it is going to get s…

600HP and 630lb-ft from 2500-5500RPM on stock engine? So, if I get an internship and make $10k next summer, who thinks this is a good idea? http://www.ls1turbo.com.au/ The car fitted with it ran a 10.53 @ 137MPH, and it's heavier than the GTO... so that means under 10.5 in the quarter I may need to upgrade the tranny, but other than that it can run on the stock motor, and has a good warranty.

I'm betting on the DJ or maybe dude who raps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ua-OqYZC1DA&feature=related And, of course, the dudes who brought you Strutting Ass with Autotune and the Double Rainbow song turned it into this delightfully catchy tune that might just be Billboard Hot 100 material. Mr. Dodson might just have the raw talent to rival T-Pain.

I nearly demolished a Saab 9-3 convertible last night..... but if I had, he would have deserved it. We're on a two lane, one way road coming up to a light. At the light your options are proceed straight or make a right if you're in the right hand lane... and only straight if you're in the left hand lane. Note that no matter which lane you're in, you can go straight. I'm in the right hand lane following this Saab, no one is in front of him, when about 50 yards before the light he decides that he needs to be in the left hand lane RIGHT f@#kING NOW. Of course there is traffic in the left hand lane already so he just slams on his brakes and puts his signal on.... apparen…

Well, after my Mom had her car obliterated in a head-on collision (can the "curse" affect you family too?) she will need a new vehicle. And not being in the financial position to buy a new vehicle we decided to go used. Mom wants a Tahoe, specifically a Black Tahoe. It will still be quite a while before my Mom will be able to drive but my Dad an I are looking anyway, and we have noticed that there are hardly any used Tahoes out there. The few that are just aren't appealing or in a color my Mom doesn't like. Now I suppose we could go the GMC route and get here a Yukon, but she is pretty much set on a Tahoe. So I guess fuel milage concerns aren't really affecting anyone aro…

Almost a year ago, I found myself without a job. 2 months later, I started working again ... at a call center job that I just do not like, which may be causing, or at the very least, making my continued abdominal pains worse. Thus, I've been looking for a new job for a couple months, but have not found anything in particular...yet. So, knowing that "they say" the best jobs are found networking ... wondered who all here might be interested in forming a "networking" group of sorts ... and, no it doesn't have to be all about jobs. It could be networking for anything . If you're interested, let me know..... Cort, "Mr MC" / "Mr Road Trip", 32swm/pig valve/pacemaker MC:f…

I'm pretty unsatisfied with both of my computers right now. My desktop is pretty much a Frankenstein hodge-podge of newer parts (motherboard, processor...) and parts from previous computers (hard drive, RAM...). The thing is pretty slow by today's standards and it been grating on my nerves for a while. The Compaq laptop is much faster (2.8GHz Pentium 4, 512MB RAM) but is an unreliable POS. The power connector broke, the keyboard and touchpad are dead and the montior has some dead pixels. Not to mention it gets hot and is loud as hell. So I've recently been looking at alternatives for the future and came across a pretty good-looking deals on Alienware and Mac G5 compute…

Two year later I'm still waiting for a 5th gen. Camaro. When I opened up my copy of R&T and saw this I almost fell out of my Chair. I was working at Chevrolet of Lowell at the time as a salesman. I took it as a sign that within a few months, or certainly a year a ground up 5th gen. retro-69 Camaro would be hitting the streets. Meantime here it is Sept. 2005 and still nothing. Thank You Ramones. :)

I collaborated with a friend on two songs recently while I try to figure out what I'm going to do about my home studio dilemma. We tracked down a bunch of loops, chopped them up, threw them back together, added a touch of WTF, and came up with what you hear here: http://0023916.bandcamp.com/ Not totally original, I don't think. Well, about as original as an art collage, which is to say there is originality in how things are used. We made due with what we had. It isn't completely boring, though, like some of the stuff you hear coming from people who a.) can't properly arrange music and b.) don't understand anything at all about theory and c.) can only use pre-made samples…

It's the last weekend of summer. I'm sort of looking forward to cooler weather...but not too cool. What are you folks doing? I get on a plane tonight and fly up to Mom's (that's PDX). Since I will inevitably get in a fight with her (she's a supreme pain), I will take the rental sled up to Vancouver BC for a few days and come back down just in time to catch my flight. This will be my first flight with the new "bans" in place. Unbelievable...no toothpaste, suntan lotion, deodorant or any of that stuff in the cabin. I wonder what check-in and the security line will be like. Everybody, have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day and report back.

As some of you may already know, I'm looking to replace the stock 16" six-spoke rims on my IS300 (which aren't in the best shape to begin with) with the more attractive (but still stock) 17" five spoke rims. The replacements in question come in silver, graphite, and chrome finishes. I'm interested in the latter two (the graphite finish in particular looks great with my car's color, charcoal grey). I've always loved the look of the five-spoke IS300 rims, which became standard in '02 (mine's an '01 <_<), as they fit the car perfectly. My question is whether you guys think it'd be worth spending money on rims that'…

My little dog passed away today. Meggie was fifteen years, 3 months old to the day. I got her in October, 1990. She was the runt, but I saw a puppy full of life and energy. She gave me infinite joy over the years. I have no idea what I'm going to do now. She was my constant companion her whole life. She slept with me each night. I'm lost, and numb right now. I love her and I miss her, always.

I have to stop buying stuff mainly because it looks good. This damn thing has reset itself on me about 20 times today and I have no idea what the problem is. It's so damn irritating. I'd kick this thing to the curb if I had the money for a replacement lined up. Maybe it just needs to cool down but it's been grating on my nerves for the past 4 days. For future reference, is there a more dependable brand of router out there?

Recently, I've had a guy inquire about my front fender. He's all the way over in Washington state. Talks of shipping have been going on and I'm not entirely sure how to do this for a reasonable price. The length, width, and height are very close to putting it over UPS/FedEx's limit for a large package, which adds a $45 upcharge to an already high price due to distance. I'm not entirely sure I can find a box that will be under the said limit and still be able to fit the fender. Weight-wise, it's just under 10 lbs. Is there any way I can ship this without getting him raped on fees and not likely to go through with the purchase?

I now officially hate commercial trucks. A few days ago we brought the sebring to Town and Country for a scratch repair on the rear bumper and the hood and for an estimate of the damage my mom caused to it a few weeks ago, and they gave us an 07 PT base for a loaner car. So we have been using, its quite fun to drive! Anyway, today I was driving down a main road and I saw this truck backing up into the opposite lane about 10 seconds up the road. So I noticed that everyone behind it stopped and was waiting because it had blocked all traffic comeing towards me. It was stopped so I thought that it wouldn't back up into on coming traffic...but ofcourse it decides to back up mo…

Ok, how about, starting in 2007, Cheers and Gears has a 'Chopper of the Year' and 'Artist of the Year'. In other words, nominate and vote for who you guys think should be recognized from their chopping or drawing skills. The winers could be posted on the home page and recieve a special page in which they'd be remembered until the following year when we could do it again. How does nomination and voting work? Anybody who wishes to nominate would put reply to the official thread with their name (one person per category!) If you wish to nominate 2 people ( 1 for each category), then before their name, put the category you would want them to be nominated in. EXAMPLE: …

Without voiding the warranty, what is the best way to check whether the engine is healthy, if no codes come back on the OBDII? Also, if there are signs of extremely fine sludge buildup (consistency of a clayey substance instead of a sandy material) at the bottom of the oil pan/sump is that considered normal wear and tear or initial stages of a bigger problem?

What are your favorite interiors on the market today (by looks, not materials)? For sedans, I like the Cruze's (with white trim) and Regal quite a bit. For a sports car, I really like the 370Z's. For SUVs, I'm a huge fan of the new Grand Cherokee and the Cayenne.

For the past few years I have been trying to get my dad a poster size photo of a red 1965 Corvette Convertable (black top, knockoff wheels, not the 427 model). And I have not found any kind of posters for that exact model. I've seen several ebay auctions for some and have requested to the seller if they have any higher resoution photos for the car but I don't get any kind of reply back. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT I called kinkos and they didn't tell me a particular image size just the image should be within 250 - 300 dpi. Two days ago I spotted an old Chevy dump truck in the distance. As I got closer to it, I realized it was the truck I built in the early nineties! It's a '78 LWB C-30 with a 454 that I re-bodied and painted to match my '90 Silverado. Amazingly, that old 454 (original) is still going strong, although the rest of the truck is quite battered at this point. It turned onto my road behind me and I stopped to talk with the owner who loves the old beast. It was loaded with woodchips and making a delivery in my neighborhood. We chatted about the truck and both of us got to grinning and laughing at the unlikely encounter. Left me in a much better mood, and with a big smile. This…

Stopped off at the gym this morning. Was on treadmill for 25 minutes, felt good, got off and went in for a shower. Found my lock busted on the locker, twisted so I couldn't open it. Got an employee to cut the lock the rest of the way off, but the latch on the locker was also broken. After using a screwdriver to open the busted latch, I went through my stuff to find all my cash missing from my wallet, but everything else intact. The shift manager called the local police. In the meantime, I had to call and cancel my two credit cards and, to be safe, order a new bank card. After the officer interviewed me, two other customers walked over and told me of similar events …

I wanted to know if a blank key or set of keys could be made by GM to look like stock Chevrolet keys? I want to trick my grandpa when he opens up his present into thinking he got a new Impala. My whole family is in on it if we can do it and we will tell him we leased it for him. It is cruel, I know, but he loves practical jokes. Can this be done?????

Who saw it? I did. Visually, not as appealing as X3 or Batman Begins. Plotwise, not as good as Batman but on-par with (or slightly better than) X3's. Acting, about asgood as the other two. I think it may have been a bit too long as well. Overall, I'd give it a B+. It would find a place in my DVD collection.

* The June 2007 story grabbed my attention: 1957 Plymouth Belvedere unearthed in Tulsa OK, a Route 66 town. I know several people who were there in person. I watched it live on the internet before we left for Dad's team's softball game that Friday evening. The car has been above ground 5 years, after being under ground 50. But, hardly any news; my main 2 sources don't seem to be very up-to-date. Maybe I'm the only one curious as to what has happened or is happening to the car...? Or, maybe I've just missed recent news? 1 of 2: http://www.unburiedcar.com/ 2 of 2: http://www.ridrust.com/missbelvedere.asp Cort | 38.m.IL | pigValve + paceMaker + cowValve | 1 Capr…

So I was walking back to my car from a sports bar last night after watching the Patriots lay an egg, and a car pulled over in front of me with something truly bizarre: two sets of license plates. It was a Crown Victoria, but as far as I could tell it wasn't a cop. It was sporting perfectly regular Virginia and DC license plates (ie, not official plates or anything) mounted right next to each other on the front bumper, and on the back one plate was in the regular holder and the other was on the bumper. Is this guy just a thief? Under what circumstances would this be allowed?

Today, I was stuck in traffic, like the kind where you can shut your car off, I think there was a person killed in an accident. Thats not the point though. I was bored so I started to read the Owners Manual and I found this Quote " If steam or smoke is coming out of your hood DO NOT touch any thing because it could cause injury or severe burns". No shit Scherlock. Also that "Do not install any Electronic Devices as they may cause your Chevrolet to malfunction and cause a acciedent which can result in injury and or Death." Listen Ricers that aftermarket light bulb can cause your car to malfunction!! Do you find anything that is so retarted o…

So we went to do a little Christmas shopping, and needed a couple of Wii's (is that the correct pluralization?) and it turns out they're still a bitch to hunt down. Best Buy had none, Target had none, the smaller, independant places just laughed at me. Special mention goes to Sears/K-Mart because they have layaway, so according to the sales guy they haven't had any on shelves in weeks. After giving in and going to Gamestop, the search was over, walked in, got two, walked out. But I thought the whole Wii shortage thing was over.

Well I'm going with my dad on thursday to our local bodyshop(my dad has used them before) to talk to the guy about repairing the body and the paintjob. "TBINS!" ... a co-worker responded with that acronym Friday afternoon when we were talking about how good it was to be TGIF (Thank God It's Friday). We all kinda looked at him funny, he shrugged and responded, "Too Bad It's Not Saturday". He explained that he'd rather it be Saturday so he didn't have to be at work. I don't know, though. While that sounds good initially, I still prefer TGIF ... because you have the ENTIRE weekend ahead of you. If it is already Saturday, part (if not half) of the weekend is already done.... So ... what's your perspective ... TGIF or TBINS? Cort:34swm."Mr Monte Carlo.Mr Road Trip".pig valve&pacemaker WRMNshowcase.legos.HO.mod…

Howdy all, so I thought it might be fun to sound off and post what your plans are for this week? I will start, we have friends coming in from out of town, kids will be coming home also and local friends joining us for a comfy gathering of 12 people for a relaxing afternoon and evening of eating, drinking and socializing. Then we will have some midnight shopping as I play chauffeur in driving the wife, kids and who ever else around to get shopping done and I relax in the back 40 of the parking lot. Seems to work as one person gets inline to check out, the others go gets their stuff and then they check out and I pick them up and off to the next location. Other tha…

Manual, Digital, Monitor screen, touch, etc. As such, what are your thoughts on the type of dash info you feel 21st century auto's should have?

It's 100 percent real, nothing has been altered. Notice the cons? The disclaimer at the bottom (if you can see them)? I think this is as truthful as Toyota's gonna get. (And ImageShack can suck my ass. Thank ya, fellas, for taking down the image!)
