....French Poodles perk up cock their head to the side. It's so much fun owning this car. Everyone stares at it, old men & women with arthritis stand up and work through the pain to tell me their personal stories of 1959 Buicks or 1957 Buicks or 1949 Chevys. So far I've averaged about two conversations with strangers every time I've taken out the car, & the Datsun has not moved a mile in the past two weeks. Yesterday I had a short interesting conversation with the G/F's Grandmother's neighbor about the Buick... then I got a hearty thumbs up and air horn from a truck driver in a red Peterbilt 379 with high rise smoke stacks. But then,…

I got my LaCrosse on April 30th. All summer long, it's been bombarded with a broken underground sprinkler that for some reason, my landlord couldn't seem to get fixed properly each time. I'm not one of those people that runs out to dry his car with a towel every second it gets wet... I won't go crazy for a little dirt, but I do like it to look nice and shine every now and then. That said, I didn't realize the water was hard water. The car has been through a total of 4 car washes, many downpours, a multitude of winter storms, and I STILL have hard water stains on the windows, mirrors, chrome and body. My car hasn't shined since the day I got it. How can I get rid o…

I watched this test a while back, and really enjoyed it. To my knowledge, the only one who managed to get this whole group together. 'Everday Driver' did a comparo a while back of the Golf R, Evo, Focus RS, and STI. I know these are usually 2 car option threads, but we're going to deviate from that this go-round. Here's the test- Golf R vs Evo vs FocRS vs STI So, which of the following would you rather have? Golf R STI Evo X Final Edition Focus RS

I was doing a little thinking recently about finding a project pickup at some point down the road, and the 1973-1987 C/K pickups (and '73-'91 Suburbans/Blazers/Jimmys) are the natural choice because of their driveability, modularity, and aftermarket support, and also because they hold a special place in my heart because they are the trucks I grew up with and remember vividly from my childhood as my father, most other male family members of mine, most of my friend's fathers, and virtually all of my father's friends and acquaintances drove them. They had all different sizes and configurations; long beds and short, crew cabs and standard, fleetside and stepside, two wheel dr…

In the "Who Will Be Where This Year?" thread where I mentioned where I'll be in 2008 and early 2009, I also asked 2 questions: "Where is your favorite area?" and "Where do you want to go in your lifetime?". I thought these might be better suited for a different topic; thus, this thread. But, a twist, on both questions: 1 ... Where is your favorite area in your HOME country (for most of us, the US)? 2 ... Where do you want to go in your HOME country (for most of us, the US) in your lifetime? For me ... the answers are easy: 1 ... Nashville/Jackson TN 2 ... Everywhere I haven't been already on one of my road trips, to see the sights and, of course, meet more p…

Auto Gauges, Manual, Digital, Are They Even Needed? Ran into a debate that was in multiple forums and even on Jalopnik that had editors and forum members debating the need of Auto Gauges and the type. So, my mom calls me at work today. Someone rear-ended her in her Cobalt while she was stopped at a red light. I wrote an estimate for $3200+. Dumbass said he reached down for a pen and didn't see her stopped, along with the rest of traffic at the light. Thing is, we fixed the dumbass' Forester less than 6 months ago, when he pulled out in front of someone and ripped the whole side out of it. We will be fixing his car again, as well, but I haven't seen it because the tow company (they knew where the car will be fixed) DROVE DIRECTLY BY our bodyshop to take it to their storage lot, so they can collect storage... UNTIL MONDAY. When I called the tow company and asked th…

I'm a bit sad, and a bit upset too. I sold the Wagon about a month back, to what I though was a nice Vet (he was very thankful) for him to get around. I saw the car around town for a few days, and all seemed well. That was-until today. I get a letter in the mail- A notice of Abandoned Vehicle. It's been in there about a week-and want me to pay big bucks to get it (almost 500 bucks) out. This is not the way I wanted to see the Cav go. You figure it will go to it's new owner, and you won't have to see it again (and hope that it was well cared for). I have to go tomorrow to get this sorted out. Since I no longer have the title-it looks like it is going to get s…

So in addition to tinkering with my car I've started tinkering with my plane. After not one but two crashes yesterday which managed to do a good chunk of damage to the plane, I fixed it up and did another upgrade. It now has larger wheels, because they look cool and more proportionate, but more importantly they make the plane more stable during taxiing, takeoff, and landing on grassy surfaces. Since we always fly in a field, this has made life much easier. Made a huge difference today. Naturally I can't resist an excuse to take photos. Besides, Captainnbooyah wanted to see them.

Hey, folks, the Regal turned 17 today. It's got 255,736 miles. It's now "legal" to watch R-rate movies. With 44,000 extra miles needed, I will keep it to try to make 300,000 miles for the hell of it. It's going to the car wash, before it gets too hot here today. Now, if you DON'T OFFEND too easily, here's a clip the car "can watch," so you can too - kind of in the same spirit as the "flying dildo" clip. Funniest thing I've EVER seen: Link to Your Daily Media

A major American metropolis has been decimated. Water is up to and beyond 20 feet deep in some places, and most of that water won't naturally receed since New Orleans sits seven feet below sea level on a marsh. Lawlessness reigns in many parts of the area with rescuers in boats and helicopters being shot at. Tourists trying to find shelter are being beaten and mugged. Those sheltered in New Orleans' convention center are also being beaten and raped. The police chief of the city said teams of his men have been beaten back. Numbers of National Guardsmen are down because many units are deployed - guess where? - in Iraq and Afghanistan. Good thing they're…

Don't get me wrong. Not that I couldn't see the pics and now I'm posting this. Could the pics be leaked intentionally by GM? From a marketing point of view, it's very clever indeed. Leak the picks, then taking them down immediately, bluffing legal action. Gets people thinking, speculating, etc, etc. Just think of all the hype it's getting now. At least it got everybody and a lot of forum talking and stuff. Also serves the effect of a marketing survey. GM gets the valuable information that people DO want a Camaro. I could be wrong though.

I am really getting sick of this whole trend. Cadillac has embraced this a little too strongly. We all know what an Escalade is - it quickly brings up imagery. However, STS, CTS, XLR, DTS, did I forget any....nuts. I mean, we all know what they are, but then we're really tuned into this whereas average consumers aren't to the same extent. Pontiac is doing this G# thing. I sure hope the new Bonneville isn't a G8. Can't they think of something else? How about this -- the Pontiac Angola? J/K. I voted "Yes...I am sick of it." Between retros and alphanumeric naming of cars, it makes me wonder if designers and marketing people have reached the limits of their crea…

Here are a few quick and easy recipes that not only are cheap, but definitely NOT unhealthy! "Chicken Rice" Difficulty: easy Combine can of Campbell's Cream of Chicken soup in a pot with some rice. Cook until rice is finished. Stir pretty frequently to keep it from burning as it is a very dry recipe. Very tasty! You can add curry and pepper to it if you want. --- Cucumber salad Difficulty: easy Finely chop 3 cucumbers. Combine 1.5 tsp sugar, a fair amount of rice vinegar (3/4 cup or so), Kikoman Tempura Dipping Sauce to taste and 1 tbl water in a small bowl. Mix. Add cucumbers to bowl. You may also add shredded carrots if you choose. Hand toss and let marina…

My bike has been hanging in my garage since I moved to PA in 2003... unused. It's a Wal-Mart special (shows how old it is, I have boycotted Wal-Mart for years, I think I bought it circa 1998) Pacific Strike 21 speed. It has never been left out in the weather, so it's in great shape. Tires hold air, don't appear too dry or cracked. Butt, it's too high off the ground, and I don't need that many gears. I want to get back into bike riding again, but this time around I am interested in a relaxed riding position and only 3 speeds... a comfort bike that can take on moderate hills. Anyone have any exPIRRience or recommendations? TIA.

I've listed it twice on ebay now and gotten lots of watchers, one fool that keeps insisting that it had to have come from the factory with leather seats and chrome wheels and he demands that I put them "back in/on". I'm thinking maybe I won't re-list it again if it doesn't go this time. Maybe I'll just polish it up, put it up on jackstands, cover it , and try to forget I own it for a few years.

I would like to introduce to you all the newest member of my family, Buddy: He is a Shih Tzu and was born on January 27. We found him Saturday night at a puppy store that is owned by the same guy that we bought our other dog, Benji (Lhasa Apso) from 12 years ago. Buddy was picked up yesterday afternoon and has been a pure joy to have as a part of our family. Benji is adjusting to the new puppy, however he appears not to be too thrilled right now On the otherhand these two have formed quite a bond: Ah, a boy and his dog...

Fly's post about the 1959 Ford Skyliner insipred this: As much as I do not like the 1959 Fords, I love most any other 1959 domestic. First & forermost the entire GM lineup including the Opel-Buicks. I would rate the GM stuff like this in order of favorites: Buick Cadillac Pontiac Chevrolet Oldsmobile (GMC/Chevy trucks fall somewhere in between Pontiac & Olds) But after that, the next best thing is a 1959 Imperial, which is about as easy to find as a polite Frenchman in Paris if you're wearing an American flag on your baseball cap. Back to reality, a 1959 Dodge 2 door hardtop of any kind is a great thing to aspire to without having your head up in …

I went off on an acquaintance about this today, as she insisted it would work and I insisted that the laws of supply and demand say it wont happen. Jordan Haskins is not going quietly into the night. After some soul-searching, the Saginaw native busted multiple times for breaking into government vehicles and masturbating inside them is re-entering the race to fill a state House seat. Haskins, a 24-year-old Republican, entered the race to become a Michigan state representative to fill a state seat, but his arrest record for numerous "cranking" incidents came to the surface immediately after he put his name in the hat. Let's revisit what cranking is: "Jordan would remove the spark plug wires and sit in the car and masturbate while the motor was sparking and making noises," the police report states. …

Why I am still a GM fan. I wonder because even some of GMs notably excellent recent efforts don't appeal to me personally. Examples: CTS The Lambdas Malibu It's not that I think the competition is better, I simply don't care for these cars. Then I remember: The 900s The Kappas Zeta Corvette Still, I'm not salivating over anything which I could go buy tomorrow. So, as my sig still says, I'm still waiting.

Hey-o guys, So this past weekend the big dog NHRA guys were in town Fri-Sun. I've been wanting to go for quite awhile now so a few friends and I took the day off work Friday and went to practice/qualifying. First off, the nitro cars are absolutely insane. If you ever have a chance to go watch these cars, DO IT! Quickest passes in the 3.60's@325ish. The feels and sounds of those cars passing is like nothing else I've ever seen or felt. I have no clue how the crews and drivers can be around those daily and now have serious hearing loss/issues. I wore ear protection knowing they were loud..still didn't expect that loud! Here are some pictures from the day. Not much…

I'm starting a new 'UDG' series that will have consecutive installments. As you can tell, it will be based on that measure of energy we love so much- horsepowerz. BHP. Ponies. Whatever nickname you like to use, it's a metric that has been used pretty much since the inception of the automobile. This round we are focusing on the little guys. Though they may not have have cover-worth big power ratings, there are no shortage of cars that are great to drive that have below 200HP. In fact, there are some All-time Greats that fall into this category. Rules- 1) Maximum of 5 choices. 2) These are your only vehicles. 3) Production cars only. 4) Any er…

Okay, you guys knew it was eventually coming. We did a HP installment (of which there is still more coming, so stay tuned), one based on displacement, and several other various ones along the way, so it's only natural we do one based on cylinder count. So with that, we will do the first one- the humble 4 cylinder. Disdained and mocked by many, 4 cylinder engines indisputably power some of the greatest cars ever built. From historic cars of unspeakable significance; to sport compact cars that punch above their weight class; to nimble off-roaders; to backroad, gravel trail, and road course slaying terrors; everyone should be able to find something they like her…

I'm pretty sure its a network issue (AT&T) but I keep getting text messages. Thats normal, I use about 2000/month, but I keep getting the same messages over and over. It started this afternoon with a co-worker texting me, I got it three times. I thought it odd, and went on. Then it happened again. And again, dozens of times over a couple of hours. Then it got really weird, because now I keep getting the same messages I was getting 5-7 hours ago. One text came with time stamps of 5:20, 5:21 and 5:21 then again at 10:50, 10:50 and 10:51. I have unlimted texting, so if it keeps up, it wont cost me, but its really annoying, since my text alert is, "PC Load Letter,…

A little history leason on me, I have a son freshman in college living at home to save money. (It is smart and works for our family.) I have a daughter yet in highschool as a soph she will turn 16 in March. Of course the car-debate will arise, I have bought 3 cars in the past 7 years very unlike me I do buy in spurts, but I think I am stuck getting another one for her or my son. That is a fact I guess, but what to get. My wife said get a Sunfire or Cobalt, I would rather get something larger and older for the same or less money. My son is a Pontiac guy at heart but likes Chevy too. I don't want another Impala from the same generation or a Bonneville. My son likes the 1996…

Story #1. I have witnesses for this.. I am an electrician, and have been wiring up an automated car wash. We are getting done with it, and getting it open...on site finishing a couple last odds and ends. Woman drives in in a Camry. Puts the windows DOWN when the wash starts...When the wash is shut off and she is asked why she did that, she replies "It's such a pretty car wash, I just wanted to see how it worked..." Story #2, Witnesses for this also. Ricer kid in the neighborhood who is really, really none to bright and drives a Mitsu 3000 GT wanted a set of 20" rims so he could have "Dubs" Buys them, along with a carbon fiber hood and a body kit (along with…

Currently I bike about 10 miles everyday. I park my car, ride to school, school to work, work to car. It doesn't always work out like that, depends on what I have to do and when I have to do it. So, in order to get a more consistent workout, I'm going to start getting up earlier and jogging in the morning. Its getting too chilly to kayak, which sucks. I'm thinking about springing the $4/week to get into the company gym, haven't decided if I'd actually use it or not.

So, I guess this may be the part where everyone says something like, "I told you so!" but I have a problem regarding the Rabbit, and was wondering what you all think about the situation. The other night (a bit after 7pm) I was on my way home from work and stopped at a light here in Coldwater. I happened to catch a whiff of burnt oil or the like and of course assumed it had come from another car. But, pulling away from the stop, the clutch take up and response was suspiciously mushy. Later on in the evening out with friends, we all noticed the smell, and upon coming to a stop, smoke came from under the hood! We found a liquid (very light golden colour) softly drippin…

So I've got someone's computer they asked me to look at (completely computer illiterate) and it's got this lovely error on startup "operating system not found" That's all it does...there's no options to enter setup or anything. I'm guessing HD or motherbaord. It's a strange computer. It's Dell case but the boot screen is HP, and it has two HDs. I'm not sure what the person who built it for him did, lol. I was just curious what you guys think is more likely. If it's not enough info, I don't have much else beyond it shows the HP logo and the goes to the error. I'm gonna pull out the two HDs and see if I can access them on my computer. Just wanted to know if you guys …

So I got to go to my first meet today. Didn't get to take my car sadly, but it was a blast nonetheless and great to get to meet people and see their cars. Of course we all took lots of photos. Since I know you guys all love Chrysler vehicles so much I thought I'd share. I want these in my car...it's just how I had always envisioned them (minus the emblem).

See that? That's what I'm going to do with my virus-infested PC. Anyone here have any idea why I have to turn my computer off 3 times or more in order for the f@#king thing to boot up, or why when I use Google, it doesn't take me to, say, the Wikipedia page I wanted but websites with the names of "gooooosearch.com" or "breast-site.net?" I hate Windows. I've been trying for months to fix this, with no luck. I'm going to buy a Mac next. I can't stand Micro$h! anymore.

Looking around the world, what do you guys think is the coolest car brand not currently sold in the USA? I nominate Citroen. Their designs are just so interesting and unique lately, it would be great to have them return to our country to shake things up.

Well now that all the new cars are starting to debut, my photos from the previous season start to become worthless. Heh, oh well. Anyhow I thought Id post some that were never published. I'll have something nice to post once the Nitro debuts. '07 Edge: This Edge prototypes was being loading and this was the last angle I shot. The older guy sees me and says in sort of a long, drawn out, grandfatherly tone "heeeeeeey....he's takin pictures." Then his wife's head pops out of the car. Sort of 2 deer in headlights. I guess it might be a "you had to be there" moment for it to be funny. They didn't seem to care that I was shooting at all....which is always the best kind of…

Looks like Detroit is going to have to face off with a group from up north. Hockey time is MY time! My co-workers always bust my chops about Basketball, etc but there's nothing that compares to the hockey play-offs here in Hockeytown. Simply put, you havent experienced the play offs if you havent been in Hockeytown. vs First Round for the NHL starts Friday. Detroit kicks it off Saturday afternoon!!!!

I'm prepping this car for paint....and having difficulty deciding what color to go with, I asked the car, it does not know either. It's not the coolest or fastest, but I really like it. Dark gray interior... I only know it can't be white. I'm interested to know what others think. If it was your car, what color(s) would you choose and why? What is the best color~

So anyways I got the job detailing cars and started last Friday. It was mostly a learning experience, but basically my job conists of inspecting the new cars that just came off the car hauler to make sure they don't have any damage, finding new cars on the lot that need to be washed and washing them, waxing/cleaning the inside of people's cars who have made appointments for detailing jobs, and checking the "spindle" to see if any salespeople have requests for cars to be washed if they have customers coming to look at a certian vehicle. I also dust off the cars in the showroom every morning. It's pretty easy and the time goes by a lot faster than I thought it would, and…

Date posted: 07-29-2006 WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Chrysler Group is recalling 146,195 Jeep Grand Cherokees because cooling-fan blades may break and cause injuries to bystanders if the hood of the vehicle is open. At the same time, Toyota will recall more than 9400 early-model 2007 FJ Cruisers because of potential tire defects. The Jeep recall involves 2000 and 2002 Grand Cherokees with the 4.0-liter 6-cylinder engines. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the automaker collected nearly 200 complaints about broken fans. Chrysler Group will begin a national notification of owners of the Grand Cherokee in August. NHTSA also reported that the inner bead of t…

and still the images are clear and raw. Certain bits of that horror still flash into my mind in total clarity. The sound of the firefighters alarms, the clouds of dust chasing survivors along the streets as they fled, a hole in the shape of an airplane, the skeletal remains of a famous facade balanced precariously at an impossible angle...

I just got back into the workout routine this semester, lifting weights and doing a couple laps around the track every other day. A buddy and I both keep a sheet where we record how many reps and the amount of weight each time, and it really shows you how much progress you've made. I used to go sometimes last year, but we didn't keep a record and after a while only started going once every week and just kinda fell out of it as things got busier. But seeing the improvements written down each week really gets you motivated to go each time and keeping lifting a little more. I've also noticed I feel a whole lot better physically when I'm in a regular routine.
