10 Speed Automatics Coming To Hyundai, Kia Vehicles William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 29, 2011 Currently, the highest amount of gears you can get in a vehicle is eight speeds. But Hyundai and Kia are looking to change that. Sources tell Bloomberg that Hyundai and Kia are working together on developing a new ten speed automatic, which could come out by 2014. This photo clearly shows that the 2008 Equus will use a rear-wheel-drive configuration when it debuts roughly two years from now. This angle also gives a good indication of this vehicle's size. I saved the best for last. In a strange twist to get people to look at the Hyundai tent (I assume), A camoflauged 2008 VeraCruz mule pulled into the Barrie Auto Show. Several of the students (its a student run show), scrambled to find out what was going on. I heard one say "does head office know that thing is here!?" The small SUV prototype was driven by a husband and wife team, with a small child. Kris started snapping pics as soon as we spotted it. As we approached, the lady said that if we wanted to have a look inside, we'd better hurry. The glass was deep tinted. Later in the day, a security guard was posted to the vehicle. Since being exposed on a regular basis to Hyundai cars, something has come to light. The bumper covers are very thin plastic. Where the bumper cover attaches to the car there is a flange with holes that snap into a plastic bracket that is bolted to the fenders and quarter panels. The bumper cover comes to a point in that area... and an automatic car wash tends to grab hold of that point and break the bumper cover away from the car at the thin flange. I think a gent who takes his kid to the same D/C I do works for Hyundai. He's always showing up with some Hyundai and special mfr. plates. Well, the other day he had a brand new Azera. Hyundai Monthly Cash Back Ok, so I've been hyper-critical of GM for consistently resorting to putting cash on the hood of just about every model, but Hyundai has finally topped them. Hyundai buyers can now opt to receive a monthly check (for 6 months) from the company in lieu of rebates. If you buy a Veracruz, your cut is $650/month, on a Sonata its $500, on the Accent and Elantra Touring (which I didn't even know existed) its $250. I have a feeling people will buy into this (just like they bought into Hyundai Assurance) but will probably end up regretting it. Hyundai Looking to be the Safety King It would seem that way anyway. Hyundai recently announced that they expect to sell 350,000 vehicles with standard electronic stability control for the 2007 model year. That would be more than Lexus, Audi, Infiniti and any other luxury brand. Though that is commendable, it isn't particularly impressive. You're comparing sales of a volume brand to sales of traditionally lower-volume brands; I'd expect the volume brand to sell more. Kudos to Hyundai for making ESC standard, though. Today, Hyundai has confirmed to Car & Driver, that yes they’re working on ten-speed automatics. “We confirmed that it [the ten-speed] is a ‘go project’ for development,” a Hyundai rep told Car & Driver. Hyundai isn’t saying when we’ll see the new transmission or what vehicles that it will be in. Car & Driver speculates that the new transmission could end up the Accent and Elantra. The Hyundai HCD-15 Santa Cruz concept shown at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show is the automaker's idea of a compact truck with such features as seating for five and a unique bed that can extend to provide more space. With the concept getting raves from the press and auto show visitors, Hyundai has decided to investigate the truck idea further. Reuters reports that a unnamed Hyundai executive told reporters a pickup truck is under consideration. But Park Byung-cheol, a director at Hyundai's R&D division said there were "hurdles" to the production of a truck. Byung-cheol didn't go into detail about what 'hurdles' are. Hyundai Chairman Chung Mong-koo has been on crusade for better quality vehicles. One of his moves to improve it was to put a cap on production. On one hand, that's a good move to have better quality.
