Okay, so like, I was really bored last night (and the BF was watching his Brazilian soaps on the big TV - yechhh. If you think American soaps are bad, try watching them on Globo - well, okay, the hotties are hotter on those shows, but anyway, I digress.) So, I am in the den, puttering around on the computer and switch to YouTube. After laughing my ass off at the Sarah Pollin skit on SNL, I hunt for old car commercials and take in a dozen or so old Chrysler commercials ("Your Next Car...,") etc, then I see all these videos posted of different folks showing off their old beasties. Ah, a cornacopia of old cars in action. When what to my horrified eyes should appe…

"Please give me a lobotomy, I'll buy a Camry for its superior fuel economy" ------ Okay, so GM is taking a thrashing in the media, all I hear is how much they suck... and yet a few days ago I was in traffic in the M.B., at a red light, nex to a mid-90s MR2 turbo. Made me think. Toyota, the 'Chosen One' the Holy Grail of automotive answers to questions most people have never asked, the mcanufacturer that for some reason gets pro-bono filatio from 92% of all "media" in and out of the Automotive Journalism field... let's recap what exactly they have been doing with themselves in the past decade. The gross MR-Spyder replaced the MR2 and …

It's been awhile since we've gotten this much snow. We have anywhere between 6-12 inches depending on the exact area. Some roads, they are just now plowing. I had fun going to work on roads that hadn't been plowed. It was the first time the Jetta had to deal with alot of snow. Did well, except I had to be pushed into my driveway, with it being on a incline without being able to get a run at it. I made it up one pretty long and steep hill somehow on the way home.

Last night my mom and I were sitting in the living room chatting about things and......life... and... then, we talked about living and dying. I said to her: ' Mom, If ever I end up in a vegetative state when you are alive, please never let me go on like that.....totally dependent on machines and liquids from a bottle. If you see me in that state I want you to disconnect all the contraptions that are keeping me alive. I'd much rather die'. Up went my mom from the sofa, with this real look of admiration towards me...and proceeded to disconnect the TV, the Cable, the Dish, the DVD, the Computer, the Cell Phone, the Ipod, and the Xbox, and then went to the fridge and thre…

Browsing YouTube, I stumbled across a walkaround video of an '84 Monte SS with a 'Vette 355/6-speed manual setup. I noticed that this Monte's instrument cluster was not the stock Monte SS cluster. Here is a link to the video: This is the stock Monte SS instrument cluster: This is the modified cluster: Notice how the rev counter is mounted on the left side in the modified cluster and stock cluster has the rev counter mounted in the right side? Also, the needles on the modified cluster point due south. I've been searching '80s era GM cars and haven't been able to make a match. I hope, though, that this instrument cluster is more common and doesn't take a …

I am thinking of... sending out some emails to a few local Chevy dealers asking for a price on a truck. I'm thinking the best thing to do is take rebates and any talk of trade-in out of the equation, because by the time the truck is built and delivered, those aspects will likely vary. That will keep the playing field level. So here it is: 2010 Colorado 1LT regular cab 4X4 3.7L I5 automatic G80 locking rear power/convenience package trailering package full-size spare tire Steel Green Metallic. I am debating the interior color. I really would like to have tan, but I am concerned about it showing dirt. Does anyone know if GM is still spraying StainGuard on thei…

Lately I have picked up running / jogging after having been mostly inactive the past couple years (with the exception of lifting weights on occasion). I started off pretty hard, doing two miles and running about half of it and getting a little winded, but otherwise fine. The second time was easier, but my legs began to get a little sore and I started getting shin splints (however that has gone away). The third time I ran for 3/4 of the route and got home and my legs were spasming, and then sore for days afterward. This was about three weeks ago. Ever since then, I have been unable to run hard; I start running and the calf in my right leg feels weak to the point whe…

Well... here are two cars that are sitting in the woods behind my uncle's camp. The first is a 3rd gen Monte Carlo. The second is an 80's Impala. Ah... what wonders the woods can behold. :P The weeds have grown alot since I was around it last... so it kind of hides it. Anyways, the basics... The front clip and the front wheels are missing. The engine is there, but not completely and it's just sitting in it. The radiator is lying on the ground beside it. Inside the steering wheel is gone and the door panels (or part of them..) are lying in the back seat. The front windshield is... there, but damaged. The rear windshield is broken out as with the door windows…

Seems like this is a common problem with the newer GM cars. I find it relatively difficult to park my G6, compared to my Cavalier. I suppose it's mostly because it's a larger car, but the rear seems to be "on the high side", and it takes longer for me to make sure there's no car in my blind spot and no one behind. I'm always freaked out that I might hit the cars next to me when backing in. Other cases: - MPH complained about the rear visibility on the G6 coupe in their video Q&A - Gone through MSN autos in the user review section of the Cobalt, people who have one love it, but complains about blind spot visibility. Anybody have the same trouble?

Was The 2000 W-Body Monte Carlo And Impala Meant To Be Rear-Drive? Browsing around on the net, I found a page that posted the specifications of 1998's Chevrolet Intimidator concept car, which would eventually become the production Monte Carlo in 2000, some two years later. I scanned over the drivetrain specs, expecting to see it listing the concept as a "front-engine, front-drive" car. Instead I found the following: Yes, that's right. The concept that previewed the sixth-generation MC was rear-drive. And something else tells me that feature was meant to be carried over into production. Also, I'd like for you to take note of the powertrain on this: And -- I…

I was giving this some thought as I periodically talk to or visit long time friends over the years...some of which I have seen this summer. Do you think most people change? I would say that, while they can, and some should, they don't. Essentially, all of my friends have the same personalities as when I first met them. Yeah, they've grown up, so they may look different over time. And, while they may have a different attitude or are more self-assured (that comes with time), they still have the same basic motivations and personal interaction style. My friend Bob in S.D. still acts much the same way as he did in college. It's just that, being in the business world a…

Peter Egan wrote an article in Road & Track a few years back about this topic. What is YOUR current cylinder count? I decided that I want Satellite Radio. I spend a lot of time on the road or in the field, so I figure that it would be a wise investment in my future entertainment. My Suburban is XM ready so I could add that easily, and my Pioneer deck in my Impala could have either tuner and antenna added to it for about 50 bucks on ebay and an hour's worth of tinkering around in the car. You can have 2 tuners for 20 bucks a month with either service, so I would probably have one dedicated system in one of the vehicles. If I were to go with Sirius I would put a dedicated tuner in my Impala and then have a Mobile unit in my Suburban that I could take out on the lake in the summer, in…

I would prefer that GM only have one truck brand, either Chevy or GMC, I don't care which. Both trucks are made at the same assembly plants and on the same assembly lines for the most part, no matter what model we are talking about. So the only thing that is really different is the badges. Let's get rid of badge engineering once and for all, shall we Mr. Lutz?

Chalk up another idiosyncrasis! For those of you who watch "Friday Night Lights", I'd bet I'm not the only one that noticed this.... On this past week's episode, one of the character's cars, a '75-'76 vintage Caprice/Impala wagon [believe it was the Caprice version; thought I saw the Caprice emblem on the front], was referred to as/called a "GMC wagon". In the same episode, when two of the characters torched the car, it suddenly went from being the big/roundish '75-'76 vintage Caprice/Impala wagon to the downsized/boxy '77-'79 vintage Caprice/Impala wagon. At least it was still a wagon, I suppose. And, unless my memory and fact-finding is lacking, GM never produced a…

C&D has what I believe is the first test of a manual V6 Camaro up. It's a rather glowing review- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2016-chevrolet-camaro-lt-rs-v-6-test-review. I decided this would be a great car to use for a new 'WWYBI' piece. Base price- $30,140 As-tested- $35,150 Range to spend- $27,125-38,665 As always, you have the price range allotted above to spend on a similar car that is new, and on sale now. Must use MSRP. Must spend at least $27,125. Cannot spend more than $38,665.

I wrecked my Sierra today in the rain. Not nearly as bad as last time, thankfully. I cannot believe it, I'm in shock still, I guess. After leaving the BPG dealership to get an oil change/tire rotation, I was traveling on a double-lane road, in the left lane there was a guy ahead of me going really slow, like he was on his cell phone. I went to pass him in the right lane, the truck suddenly fishtailed out of control, I fishtailed 3 or 4 times (raining heavily at the time) but I couldn't hold it, I tagged a stinkin' 90 Jetta in the passenger front door... driver's side front corner of my truck, same as before, then I spun completely around and crunched the curb with my…

My cat is fascinated with the bathtub. In the a.m., when I am in the bathroom doing other things, she jumps up on the edge of the tub and wants me to turn the water on at a drip. She then jumps in and walks UNDER the stream, like a little dummy. She always seems surprised when she gets wet that way. Then she asks me to shut the water off, so she can drink without getting splashed. Later, after my shower, she immediately jumps in the tub as I exit. She sits in the wet tub and loves it. Is my cat we todd it?

My (non-car-guy) friend is looking for something to replace his 2002 Hyundai Accent. This is the friend of whom asked me to sell his 70s Ford LTD for him. Basically, he feels his car is way too small and way too basic, which is quite understandable. It is a lowly Accent, afterall. He also had to cough up $1k when the timing belt snapped and bent some valves at the end of last year. Otherwise, it's been a relatively good car to him. He's looking to move up into something thats more liveable and will be reliable. One of his main critera is that he doesn't want to drive something that everyone has. My point of posting is... We came across a 2001 Cadillac Catera with only …

Two year later I'm still waiting for a 5th gen. Camaro. When I opened up my copy of R&T and saw this I almost fell out of my Chair. I was working at Chevrolet of Lowell at the time as a salesman. I took it as a sign that within a few months, or certainly a year a ground up 5th gen. retro-69 Camaro would be hitting the streets. Meantime here it is Sept. 2005 and still nothing. Thank You Ramones. :)

Its not my thing, as I'm sure I could not actually drive these little things, but at least they are good for a laugh. I can't help but wonder if GM could do something like this for a retro Microvan... or Micro-SUV... Clever how the bowtie is reversed... I can't believe they copied the '68-'72 Chevy trucks... Ok, who here gets annoyed by drama queens? Tonight, I went to check my e-mail and found a message from a girl who I hung out with once in late November. She and a couple of my freinds invited me to hang out with them New Years Eve at Lake Okoboji in Northern IA, but my family had a last minute change of plans and didn't leave Chicago until late, so I didn't get home until 10 PM New Year's Eve. Since I wouldn't have been able to make the 4 hour drive up there, I went and hung out with some friends down in Omaha (hour away). So, tonight I get this hate filled email from her saying how "we're fighting" like we've been in a relationship for years or something. I've hung…

Okay people... I'm tired of the Malibu already. I usually lease, however the wife talked me into financing. I've had the car 26 months already (on a 60-month payment loan). I know I'll probaly not be happy when dealing with trade-in values, but I want to get back into leasing and want a new car other than the Malibu. Going to the Philly Auto Show next weekend witht he wife to find out what might possibly be the next vehicle. Here's what I consider the top three mot important things I look for in a car. 1. RWD: If it's not RWD then AWD w/ most of the power going to the rear wheels. 2. Manual Transmission: Not a must but very strong preferance! 3. V8 or Inline-6: Short of an exotic motor like a V12 or V16 this is the only way to fly. That's it right there... RWD is most important but the other two I'll compromise on depending on the other redeming qualities of a car. Like a flat-6 Porsche motor would definately NOT turn me off to a 911, but an automatic trans. in a BMW is pretty much a deal killer. So what's the top three things you look for in a car? I left off styling because these days…

Ok, maybe I'm just imagining things, but I remember people on here talking about a two door Blazer, like the GMT-400's of yore, and wishing there would be a GMT-900 version. Now didn't someone on this site do a sketch of what it should look like? Something along the lines of this? Because I happened to be browsing on Google for GMT-900, and this sketch came up, but on a different forum, and the poster is called "opiated" http://www.nfscars.net/forum/showthread.php?p=308698 Maybe it's someone off this site, but I'm not too sure. You might have to scroll up to see it.

Yeah so, I'm on vacation this week. I leave to go camping tomorrow and I bought a new tent that sets up in the truck bed. It got here fast, I ordered it Friday and it came on Saturday. So I put the truck in the backyard, took off the tonneau and did a test set-up. All the hype on the box said "20 minute setup!" Yahright. An hour later and I finally got the thing erected. The tent is made by a Canadian manufacturer, so the instructions were written in English... with a French accent. Oui? Non. Anyway... ha, I hope to look less like a retodd tomorrow at the campground setting this thing up.

My aunt & uncle recently have had problems with their brand new Prius. It seem that it quit on them several times while driving. While it's being looked at, the Toyota dealership gave them a new Camry LE as a loaner. Now I have something to admit... I don't think it's a bad looking car. In fact, I think the Camry is a great looking car. Don't get me wrong, I'd never think of buying one or driving one even if I were paid to, but if I were a complete jerk who didn't care about supporting domestics I would not be embarassed to be seen in it. So while you all are flaming me for my apparently dissident (dis)tastes in aesthetics, to make this topic slightly more …

TV, radio, the movies ... talk about "Southern Hospitality" and things like "Sweet Home Alabama". For just over a week, I experienced this "Southern Hospitality" phenomenon. And, yes, it is VERY true! I can hardly believe my 2007 road trip is over.... The wintry weather mix (mainly ice/snow) that greeted me when I returned Saturday, December 1, was NOT the way to welcome me back home; though, it was nice to see many people at our annual Christmas Open House that evening. As for the trip itself, I met a lot of great people along the way, saw some "old friends", and missed meeting a number of people as well. I had a blast ... and want to go back on the road ASAP! …

A 1997 X300 (XJ6). Two owner, 135,XXXmi, 4.0 litre slant six. These late night photos don't do it justice; its an exceptional car and I can buy it for ~$4000. The second owner (a bishop at a local church who has bought a few cars from us) had some work done to it and its in great running condition. Original, blemish-free paint, great interior, and so on. Just a thought....

Why is asking for and/or accepting the help of others so seemingly taboo? I'm exhausted and so tired I can't even sleep, which is not good, since I have to be at work Thursday and Friday. But, trying to do my best to help my parents at home after their surgeries (Mom donated a kidney to Dad), while doing what I need to do ... and trying to make my sister understand that I AM helping Dad and Mom ... is starting to grate on my nerves. I love helping Dad and Mom, especially after the sacrifices they have made, but when they won't LET me help them as my sister insists I need to ... it frustrates me. Thus the somewhat re-worded, semi-rhetorical query I posed to start thi…

This past week, I found myself in "defensive driving" situations ... one worked out very well, the other almost ended not so well.... The first, the one that almost ended up badly, happened en route to work. I was on a 4-lane road in Schaumburg in the right-hand lane, which was full of cars waiting to turn right (myself included). We were moving, but not at the speed limit. I noticed that the car behind me darted into the left-hand lane, but thought nothing of it, because I thought the driver was going to be turning left at the upcoming intersection. I was wrong. Instead, the driver apparently realized I was going slow because of the line in front of me. Before I …

I do not know if anybody has used this before, but Synergy, is a software using which you can hook-up up to eight computers to one keyboard and mouse (of the mother computer). No more having virtual desktop, or other LAN based shebang. So as long all your computers are seeing one network, Synergy works fine. I am using it and I love it. What is cool is that the software lets you copy and paste from one computer to other. If you do not have capability of setting up a network, there is a free online VPN known as Hamachi; it is secured compared to other VPN's and the best part is that you can access any of your computers from anywhere in the world so as long you hav…

I need to lighten the mood a bit (especially mine), so post your guesses about what my next new vehicle purchase will be. Might be fun to guess when it will happen as well. I have no idea myself at this point, but it should be interesting to look back on this thread when the time comes. New vehicles only and pics welcome!

So this was probably a day or so after I bought it and I took it over to my parents for photos. For some reason I didn't look very happy. hahahahaha! What's interesting about this next one was that many years later I ultimately ended up driving that GMC Jimmy that was parked in front of the Camaro in the photo. When I got the Jimmy from my Dad (for painting his house) it had about 75000 miles on it. I ended up putting about 70000 miles on it myself before it got ruined during Hurricane Ike. I wish I had more pictures of this car at my house, but I have no idea where they would be. This was my 1988 Cutlass (it was a hand me down from parents). This was taken…

The Thanksgiving holiday is but a few days away. Our family has been asked over for dinner by some friends from California, also living out of state, but in a city about 45 miles away. The obligatory shopping and doing of chores will take place on Friday and Saturday, and maybe there will be some time to drive around some quiet scenery to relax and get away. Hope everyone will have a nice Thanksgiving.

Have you ever looked something up on Wikipedia, then like 45 minutes later you're hit about a hundred links and now you're on a completely unrelated page? Today was one of those day. I ended up on the Official state car page and started scanning through. It seems like most countries transport their heads of state in the usual suspects, BMWs, Rolls Royces, Mercedes and the like. But Brazil uses something I wouldn't have expected.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The victim has probably forgiven the woman who ran him down in a Northampton crosswalk. The police haven't. Police say a Pittsfield woman has been cited for running down Lord Jesus Christ as he crossed the street in Northampton. Officers responding to Tuesday's incident checked the 50-year-old Belchertown man's ID and discovered that, indeed, Lord Jesus Christ is his legal name. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor facial injuries. Police say 20-year-old Brittany Cantarella was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Well, new guy here taking a few minutes to introduce himself. I'm Denis, a 22 year-old guy from Moncton, NB, in Canada and, obviously a GM fan and general auto enthusiast. I'm also a university student who's studying in journalism and I have my own little "web-based media outlet" where I write about, you guessed it, cars. I've heard of this site many a time before, but I never really visited more than that up until I saw an incoming link from thia forum to one of my writeups on my site. Checked-out the place, thought it looked like a pretty good place with plenty of interesting discussion going on, so here I am. Anyway, I guess that all I have to say for now... I lo…

Our new "Land of Generica" series will coach you through the intricacies of modern automotive design. First in what promises to be an exciting series, designing the grille of the car. The grille is the "face" of the car and carries your and the car's personality out in front. Naturally, such an important component of automobile design requires a strict selection process. You can print and keep this guide in your pocket in case Ed Welburn or Harley Earl's ghost ask your advice on a new model.

I'm starting a new website. It will is not going to compete with C&G but rather compliment it. AutoWikipedia I hope that one day, the autowikipedia will be an authorative database on automotive history so that we here at C&G and at forums all over can reference it. There won't be forums like what we have here on C&G, just a large database of our combined knowlage...and as the site grows, hopefully knowlage from users outside of C&G as well. This will be a huge undertaking and I'm hoping I can get a number of you to pitch in on writing articles. In addition, I'll need a few "moderators" to watch out for, and edit, the edit wars that can errupt on Wiki…
