So as you guys may know I've been job hunting for well, a while now. I had an interview for a photography and photo editing company in Amesbury, MA last week. The position was for Digital Imager, which means using Photoshop to touch up photos taken by the company upstairs as well as photos from other companies all over the country. I really wanted a job like this, because it meant I would get to use a program I love to work with to do something I love to do. This also seemed like a place I' like to work because it's family owned and it had a very friendly atmosphere. Plus, my commute would be against rush hour, so I basically wouldn't need to deal with it, and the plac…

How many of you predict mass carnage on the highways this winter now that a lot of people left their SUV's and pick-ups with the crusher in exchange for lighter, front-wheel drive compacts that don't fare as well on snowy and ice covered highways? Also, how many of you predict that a lot of the buyers of the very same compacts will be buying a new truck this winter?

the power supply gave out on my computer this weekend so its been dead since thursday. It was interesting to see just how much time i use the computer when i didnt have one at my disposal. so now $64 lighter i am back. i couldnt believe there was only a 350 watt supply in this thing. pushing a 450 now and i suppose soon i shall break down and build a new one come spring. well, at least the power supply is one less thing on the parts list....

I think about this every now and then. As for the 3800 V6 engine by Buick, once it went transversely mounted, received roller hydraulic lifters and fuel was delivered via port injection, it became one of the best engines ever. I'm closing in on 270,000 miles on the old car and still love the car and this engine. However, I also think back to a 1970 Pontiac LeMans coupe my Dad owned. He never thought much of Pontiac, until he bought this car. He loved "la Pohn-tee-ak"...and so did our Australian Shepherd. It had the 250 inline 6 with a 1-barrel car and NO air conditioning, so the engine compartment was a mechanic's dream, with every plug easily accessible and lots of …

I've heard many good things about this movie from movie friends of mine that have gotten to see a sneak preview. Johnnie Cash is a legend of music and always will be, no matter what type of music you chose to listen to. Will you be seeing this movie? I just picked up his "greatest hits" CD today and I must say, it's damn good. Got the new Kenny Chesney CD today too. There's the country in me coming out.

Pontiac has long used racing sourced names since the '50s and through today. However, they seem to be abandoning it with the only names left being GTO and Grand Prix, both of which have questionable futures. Of course, Pontiac could return to using them, but could they possibly adopt new ones? Ones Pontiac has used... Grand Am Grand Prix GTO Bonneville Trans Am LeMans Formula GT Ones used by other manufacturers... Monte Carlo Daytona Sebring Monaco Baja IROC Grand Sport Grand National But are there still ones that could be possibly used? I've had no luck in searching... Any suggestions/ideas? All I can think of is PA's own Pocono …

Out for a Sunday drive w/ my family today, I saw this Catalina (67, 68?) parked on a lawn: Is this some home-style hackjob, or a Canada-only version, or what? Notice the parting line around the door, and the joint where the window frame angles forward- def. looks hand-made. (Just realized the pics are kinda crappy, sorry.) Doesn't look like a pickup bed, it looks like some kind of trunklid is still present. Just strange, never seen one like that before. FWIW

I want to do this sometime in the next few years. It seems like so much fun... almost as much retarded stupidity as the Demolition derby. I've been interested in the Flugtag for a while but a commercial the otehr day piqued my interest and I finaly checked ot the website. http://www.redbullflugtagusa.com/ Also check out the game they have on the website, my personal best so far is 99.743. I keep getting 80s and 70s now and can NOT seem to break the 3-digit mark. http://www.redbullflugtagusa.com/Game/

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share with you that I got my Citroen C4 brochure in the mail! Yes... Citroen. I forgot that I asked for it, hehe. It's all in French of course, so it'll take me awhile to figure it out. I think it's a cool little car, especially the 3-door. Also cool is that Citroen would even send me one.

I didn't see any prototypes... ...but I did run into the former Vice Chairman of General Motors. (Image may not be used without permission.) As you might imagine, there's really only one man who would fly over GM's proving grounds in a Aero L-39 Albatros fighter jet at low altitude, bank hard right and make a hasty exit.

I have been going on line looking for rental cars and when you get a decent price for a rental then they show you what the junk charges are. For example I pulled up a weekly rental on a full size car at $163.00 at the airport in Ft. Lauderdale, and lo and behold, there are about $75.00 worth of absolute bogus junk charges that they try adding on top of that. This is nonsense. Where can you look for a rental at an honest price without all the crap fees? I wil be looking to rent again on August 12-19th.

For me it was the story from years ago that a highschool friend's dad told as to why he bought an AMC Alliance. Apparently he had a bad habit of (once) locking his keys in the car. So the next car he bought (the AMC) had to be one that you could not lock from the inside and could only be locked by using the key in the door from the outside. The Alliance was the only car he found that did that, so that is what he bought. The family also had an AMC Concord hatch. They finally wised up and traded both for Impalas.

I'm getting pretty damned old so my car jones has been acting up a lot more lately. I started a list of cars I'd like to have before it's too late. You'll notice my choices ain't particularly exotic or even necessarily pricey. I've never been a fan of the hoity-toity, high-priced machinery that only the execs of fortune 500 companies can afford...anyway, here's my first crack at the bucket list. Laugh if you want. In no particular order: 1956-’57 Corvette (doesn’t need to be FI or even dual quad; these were simply gorgeous cars) 1956 Plymouth Fury ('nuff said) 1956 Mercury Montclair (had the looks, performance & handling of its “Mexican Road Race” Lincoln cousins…

So, it's no secret that I tend to have... cravings for certain cars at certain times. I was once wanted a Fiero and nothing else. Then I was stuck on 240SX's. Then came Miatas. However, those were all similar in that they were sporty and small. But lately... namely since I've bought my Millenia, I've been getting into mid to large sized luxury sedans. You could say I just love so many different cars (and obviously don't have a fit whether they're domestic or not). But this is turning into what my next purchase may be. It's been obvious that I'm more than bored with my Milly. Its reliable, but due to the mileage, its not perfect. There's alot that needs to be done... fro…

See, I wasn't kidding--the plane in the background is the Lockheed L188 Electra, a 4-engined turboprop that began its career in 1957. I flew on one of these circa 1965, between Denver, CO and Sioux Falls, SD. A few L188 Electras are still in use today, usually for fire-fighting.

I brought this up on a previous thread, and it sounds like Detroitnut90 had a somewhat similar problem: http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...c=14823&hl= But I'll post again just in case the other topic gets buried. Anyway, like a week or so ago, I wanted to access C&G, but unlike most other times, I got a white screen, with some internet jargon... Now I figured it was just the site going messed, so I ignore it. Later that day I try to access again, and get the same message. No biggie. Tuesday rolls around and I'm reading and watching about the auto show, but not from C&G... I'm getting a wee little antsy that I'm still getting the same error me…

After a week of above average temperatures and a high of near 70 () yesterday, I'm now under a Winter Storm Warning. Crazy. It's Currently 39 degrees and raining lightly. The rain is forecast to mix with and change to snow overnight and continue throughout all of Friday and Friday night. The snowfall totals grow higher everytime I check the forecast. I was shocked to see a Winter Storm Watch up for my area when I woke up this morning. It really took me by surprise. I'm hearing 8 to 14" when all is said and done. The amount of sand and salt local road crews have used this year is insane. Trucks are already spreading salt in my neighborhood, even with light rai…

Well, as I've said many times, after I test drove an Acadia back in January, I've been infatuated with the Lambdas ever since. As I always do, I attempted to peak some interest in the queen mum--her Suburban is right at 3 years, which is actually the LONGEST she's owned any of the past 4 vehicles--and she what she thought. Still SUV comfort and space, but much more refined, better gas mileage, and much lower pricing than another new GMT-900. Didn't immediately get such a strong response--well, aside from a while ago when she saw the Enclave concept on Motorweek and said "Wow, what's that?!"--until just recently. Out of the blue I was asked "Those Acadias, what kind o…

That I'll be able to order a new El Camino SS fairly soon. But, I'm thinking that I'll probably hold-off until the second production year. With all of the drivetrain advances happening so fast lately, I have a feeling that an engine upgrade will happen in the second or third year. Opinions? Other ideas/concerns? Another factor is that I'd like to be able to pay cash for it and I'll need some time to make that happen.

I have a love/hate relationship with the car sales business. Always have. Still recent events make me seriously doubt I want to stay at my job for longer than absolutely neccessary. As cool as it is to deal hands on with brand new Cadillacs & Chevrolets the car biz can be so unrewarding. 55-70 hrs a week & for WHAT? The money is not there like it used to be. Not sure but I might be moving on soon. Too bad really, when I started working at this dealer 2 months ago I had every intention of staying for at least one year, possibly two.

I'm kinda thinking about it. It's an 06 LS Coupe, with 30k on it... It's quite rough on the outside (I'm detailing it now) with quite a few scratches, dents....a bit rough on the inside, but I'm making it look pretty decent.... It's been in an accident-though it was a light one- and inpected by both myself and my dad ( car is in family) Even though it looks rough on the outside, the Eco is in good shape (almost all highway miles) and the rest underneath is good too..... and I could probably pick up between 5-7 grand...... Even though it's a coupe (really don't need another one), it would make a good replacement for the wagon, and can be paid off fairly quic…

Automotive News January 14, 2008 - 12:01 am ET Toyota's sprawling Georgetown factory in Kentucky horse country has taken over as the top-producing vehicle assembly plant in North America. For eight consecutive years, that honor went to General Motors' Oshawa car plant in Ontario. Georgetown finished on top in 1998, the year a long GM strike knocked the Canadian operation out of first place. Oshawa No. 1 and No. 2 are in the same building so are counted as a single plant. GM's Oshawa truck assembly is in a separate building and not included. In 2007, Georgetown turned out 514,382 vehicles, up 2.1 percent from 2006. Oshawa produced 470,016 units, a decline of …

I received a PM from a friend of mine on another forum whose family has a Toyota Tacoma (year 2005). After Rats ate his wiring twice due to Toyota coating their wires in tasty peanut oil, the Sheet metal on his truck has begun to completely disintegrate... To be fair to the guy, he's a GM/Ford truck guy and his family only bought it on the merits of the previous Toyota pickups they had had... So here's what has begun to happen to his "super duper" three year old truck (this truck has by far not been abused or even driven very hard either)...

What if small groups in a given locale were to form cooperatives to support small scale ethanol production from local feedstocks? Say, for example, a local car club splits the cost of running a small scale facility with paid staff and the equiptment required to produce enough fuel for all of the members on a non-profit basis? Just a thought. :AH-HA_wink: ...at least for now.

This is really hard for me... A few months ago my Grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors told her she had about six months to live. When I last spoke with her around the end of December she told me she was undergoing chemotherapy and that it was helping. Today I was up early and got a message from my father that she had taken a turn for the worse and was very sick, and probably doesn't have long to live. I'm not sure what to do or say...I want to call her but I don't know what to say. There hasn't been a death in my family (who I knew) since my Grandfather passed away when I was around 5, so I have no idea how to deal with it. I guess I'm looking for a…

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston resident Kelli Davis was in for a surprise when her daughter brought home some routine paperwork at the start of school this fall. Davis signed the form and then handed it to her daughter for the eighth-grader's signature. "I just assumed she knew how to do it, but I have a piece of paper with her signature on it and it looks like a little kid's signature," Davis said. Her daughter was apologetic, but explained that she hadn't been required to make the graceful loops and joined letters of cursive writing in years. That prompted a call to the school and another surprise. West Virginia's largest school system teaches cursive, but only in…

I put this in the Lounge cause I thought I'd get a quicker response......I'm just wondering if any of you Southern California guys are going to the O.C. auto show? It starts tomorrow and runs thru Sunday......10-15 to 10-18. Anaheim Convention Center. I'll be there tomorrow evening......Thursday..... I know it's not a big show like L.A., but it's still a decent show.....and for us CA guys, it's the first one of the season....and usually has some cool things going on (like a Fiesta ride-and-drive) even though it's a smaller show, it's right in the heart of SoCal.....

One broke my mirror! On my way to school today, I hit a deer. It wacked its head off my mirror and brushed against the side. That popped the actual mirror off and since my car was/is dirty, put some nice scratches on the side. They can probably be buffed out, though. It's hard to explain why I hit it. I saw them, but I never slowed. I kept on going. Once it hit I was literally like "What the..?" I must have been half asleep or something. I guess this just tells me I need to start drinking Coffee in the morning. :D

I got a $50 iTunes gift certificate for Christmas, and I downloaded a song the other night. Trouble is, my Pocket PC doesn't support the iTunes protected M4P format (naturally). Nor will the 20GB Creative Zen Touch that I'm about to buy from my sister for half price. Does anyone know of any good, preferrably free M4P to MP3 converters that'll cause me little to no grief in getting the iTunes songs onto my player(s)? I've been Googling this for a couple of days, and it doesnt seem to be an exact science. I know I can burn a CD in itunes and re-rip ino MP3/WMA format, but I'll only do that as a last resort. I also refuse to overpay for an iPod. TIA…

Simple, really. I'm bored and want to know how many pairs of shoes, what are they and what are they for. I'll start. I've got some very generic Skechers boots, I wear them for work. I have an old orange pair of Reeboks that I wear biking and running. And I have four pairs of Chuck Taylors, a basic black pair that I wear to work on nights I close (they dont leave marks on the floor like my Skechers do) then I have a blue pair, a brown pair and a black and gold pair that I wear to class, out, etc. Wow, I own 6 pairs of shoes.

Similar like Word Association, but here is how its played. Ill start off with one word, the next person has to come up with two things that relate to that word, then the third person has to pic one of the previous persons words and come up with 2 words that relate to that and so on and so on. Example: Charger4U: Cylinder WPBHarry: Piston, Engine (make the relation) WPBHarriet: Engine (the word he/she picked to relate to) Hemi, Northstar Charger4U: Hemi (the word i picked to relate to) Charger, Ram. Get it? its not as complicated as it may sound once we get started. The starting word is Chevrolet

I have a mental disorder. I buy cars compulsively, especially after spotting a good deal. It's essentially a crime not to buy if it's a good deal, right? Riiiight?! My current two vehicles fall under that category. The Golf was a $500 investment to get back into the VW fold. I had the Cobalt at the time and had no real reason to buy it... but I did. This process was duplicated with the CRX. I had no intention of buying anything, but I came across the listing after a few hard luck instances with the Golf. I didn't think twice before picking it up. Now, I have 2 vehicles and you would think I could be satisfied... but no. I still find myself wanting random vehicles I come…

It was brought up in the Fourm Feedback thread. Is it possible to use cruise control in reverse? I think it could work. Ill have to try it out sometime. (in safe conditions) in a ford Aerostar. you can accelerate from a dead stop with cruise. so why wouldnt it work in Reverse. But my idle speed is like cruise in the morning have to ride the brakes on Masonic Blv. to keep it at 30. And no I dont have the Choke.

Which do you think is the better buy/car??? Feel free to post your thoughts in a reply after voting. And TIA!!!

Can anyone explain why my connection has headed south literally overnight? Yesterday, I managed to get a decent dial-up connection of around 46.6. Tonight, I've gotten nothing but a lousy 28.8. Usually, disconnecting and reconnecting fixes the problem on the off chance it happens. But now, it's all I get. Running at half-speed just doesn't work. And I can't tolerate a slow connection. Any way I can get my connection back to normal speed? This is getting aggravating. If it helps, here's the Modem Log.

Yup, the Colorado has been recalled for a potentially faulty brake light switch at the pedal. I got the letter yesterday. Affected vehicles will either have inoperative brake lights, or "always on" brake lights. Cruise control will also be inoperative because the circuit runs through that switch. I haven't had a problem with my truck, but I'll still take it in to have it done. It will be 3 years old end of next month, it's a first-year model and this is the first recall notice I've gotten for it. I'd say that's not a bad record, comparatively. I can only hope the new truck is as good. And thanks again, Mr. Fly, for the heads up a while back.

I've kinda sorta kept up with the new car market and sadly, I'm seeing nary a thing that appeals to me. Everything seems to have gotten fat, heavy and grotesque-looking. Another symptom of my old-guyness, I suppose. Anyhoo, this has made me think about what an ideal vehicle would be for my weird tastes. Here's what I came up with: Something on the order of the original Caravan/Voyager in a (compact) external footprint AND internal dimensions--including height and seating position (the Mazda 5 was heralded as the successor to the original Mopar minivans, but it really wasn't--didn't have the height to stash taller items in the back for one thing, and the seating position…

Came across this story about Ferrari beating Bugatti and it is very cool to watch. Interesting is that in the quarter mile you do see that the Ferrari is a couple car lengths ahead but as they hit the finish line and keep going the bugatti closes the gap. Makes one wonder who would really win in a mile long race. https://fr.news.yahoo.com/laferrari-demolishes-bugatti-veyron-drag-race-video-135004475.html

okay so most of you know about my monte's sad death... if not then dont worry about the details... its totalled anyway... so after looking around and checking out cars... im pretty much in love with the CTS... ive found a bunch of 04-05 models within my price range with reasonable to really good mileage and even have a hold deposit on one particular 2004 Red 3.6L with a black interior... now heres the problem... my parents have decided that maybe 20,000 isnt good enough... and maybe i should think about financing 10-12k with a 15k down payment... therby expanding my price-range to 27k... they also brought up the possibility of me leasing a car... which is over the to…

That's the current value of the American dollar. Last time the Canadian dollar was this high was 1977. I hope this continues so that we can tell jokes about American money for a change. :AH-HA_wink:

Costco has hired you to revamp their automobile program. Instead of offering discounts on other brands they've decided to market their own line under their Kirkland Signature brand. You have to create a model line up using other manufactures products rebranded. You'll need broad appeal. You'll also need to change the designs slightly so you can't exactly tell what it's badge engineered from. What are you going to offer? What cars, trucks and SUV's will you offer? What'll you call them? Create your lineup for Kirkland Signature Motors!

OK, this is the current condition of these 2 rides. The finned wonder is my '59 Invicta, the other is my brother's '71 GTO 4-spd. I am head of him in the process: all metal work is completed and in epoxy primer, and the shell is back on the refurbished frame. Front & RR suspension is done, as is my rear axle. I also have a bunch of the new parts, and a bunch of cosmetically restored parts. My brother may or may not be done with metal repair- I think the floors still need work. Also, his frame is untouched yet, but there is a TON more repro parts available for the '71. He also has 2 lifts at his house We have an unofficial bet on which gets their car done first.…

SAMSON, Ala. – Nine people were gunned down in a terrifying rampage across two Alabama counties by a lone shooter who authorities said burned down his mother's home with her inside, killed his own relatives on their porch and shot apparent strangers and police before killing himself. Tuesday's shootings in a mostly rural area near the Florida border were believed to be the work of Michael McLendon, who lived with his mother and had once worked at a local metal plant. The bloodshed began when McLendon burned down his mother's house in Kinston, according to Coffee County Coroner Robert Preachers. Authorities found Lisa McLendon's body inside, but they had not determined…

I got these: Oh, and I also got silver fillins for the rear where it says CAMARO. My rear end is like done now except for the SS spoiler that I should be getting near Christmas time...

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/060424/japan_auto_...ction.html?.v=1 TOKYO (AP) -- Global production at four major Japanese automakers rose in March, but the country's second largest, Nissan Motor Co., reported a decline, the automakers said Monday. Toyota Motor Corp., Japan's top automaker and the world's second biggest auto company after General Motors Corp., churned out 779,381 vehicles in March globally, up 12.5 percent from the same month of last year Its overseas output rose 19.7 percent to 366,391 vehicles, the 51st consecutive monthly gain thanks to increased production in almost all regions, Toyota said. Toyota's domestic production jumped 6.8 percent to 412,990 unit…

That is apparently the lifespan of brake pads on a manual Cobalt when driven by me. Screech pads weren't hit yet either, they were just found to be thin upon inspection. This car has treated me quite well for the 200,000 so far... ps. Who has the highest mileage car on this board? I know I'm not up there yet, but I'm just curious.

Well, it's now summer.. or at least damn close to it, and I can feel the rays of sunlight bringing my body's sweet perspiration through my pores. Ew. Okay, first off, it's raining.. No sunshine, sunshines. That's not what this thread is about, though. It's just to let you all know that I'm secretly excited to be "me" again! First, my car will (should) be back on the road this Wednesday (as long as it starts after a month of down-time). This excites the living hell out of me (who would want hell in them anyway?). Then, all day (read: week) I've been regular ol' me.. just how I was last summer: I can bring a smile to anybody's face in any circumstance. Well, usually. lo…

Do we have a peanut butter appreciation thread? If not, here it is. The only real problem I am aware of with peanut butter is its pretty high in calories. But in return, you get full. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM OK, here goes. My faves in the peanut butter world. TRADER JOE'S the basic creamy unsalted or crunchy unsalted is the best best best! I add a little honey and stir it in, but even without its SOOOOOOOO good! MARANATHA. Expensive, but so worth it. The creamy no stir is awesome, the regular Maranatha is fabulous as well. SMUCKERS A little bland and I am not diggin the finely chopped added texture but otherwise for cheap PB is pretty good. JIF Jif Na…

Company paid for it so I took the opportunity to come down to LA and get some continuing education credits at the AIA (read "geek") convention. SENSORY OVERLOAD..not the convention but LA, rather. The convention is at the Convention Center downtown. All of the hotel prices were high in the immediate area, so I stayed in El Segundo (by LAX) where you can take 2 subway/light rail cars (Green Line to Blue Line) and get to downtown for a pittance. This is the first time I have ever been in South Central! An eye opening experience. All the houses have bars on windows. Also, this historically African American area is almost fully Hispanic at this point judging from th…

Well, I just got back from seeing Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Its a 2h-45m long movie although it doesn't feel like it in the least. I loved the movie, it was a whole lot darker than the first, which I liked and it was far funnier. The biggest thign that I saw was that the Transformer's movie was one of the previews that strung along. I got a kick out of seeing it and whispered to my wife "we'll be seeing that". So has anyone else seen the movie?

After a particularly aggravating commute, I decided to post this list of the things that annoy me. These things may not seem like "bad driving", but they reduce the efficiency of our roads, and waste everyone's time. Feel free to post your own pet peeves as well. This list is expressway-specific. 1. People who don't get over to the right. You are supposed to drive in the right most lane unless passing. When the highway is packed, and you are constantly passing, go ahead and drive in the left lane. Expressways would flow so much better if everyone just moved over. Then I wouldn't have to guess what the guy in the middle lane is going to do when he encounters the slow…

Reading ocnblu's thread about a new car, this just popped into my mind so I thought I'd make a new topic about it for everyone to see. Essentially it is a loophole in the GM Card system and allows anyone to use another person's points. My parents have two cards, and my sister used one card's points on her Cruze and I used the other points on the Camaro. However, prior to the day we each bought our respective car, neither of us were on the card and thus couldn't use the points. However, we got added to the card and were able to use the points without our parents having to co-sign on the loans. Basically you simply call the GM card, tell them you are adding someone to the…

I don't know where to start... Tonight, I heard my mom is getting harrassed in work because of me. I'm beyond pissed right now. What they're doing is not right and it makes me furious. I honestly feel like marching in there and confronting the assholes that are doing this. I'm just getting so sick and f@#king tired of the homophobia here in Brookville... I really am. I absolutely hate it.
