Hood windows. Jalopnik First it was the Toyota Altezza lighting the world on fire with the clear tail light craze, then came Buick, igniting the love triangle between Pep-Boys, 17-year-olds, and stick on fender vents, now it's the Corvette ZR1 and its hood window kicking off a new trend. Hillbank Motorsports has created a hood with a window in it for the 2005-2009 Ford Mustang which will let you show off that stonkin' V6 with NOS and dress up pulleys. Of course, if you're sporting a supercharged monster mill, it'll work there too, but lets be honest about who goes after this kind of thing. Expect hood windows for Civics, third generation 'Tegs, and mid-90s Accords …

Reading FOG's thread quiet praise for the Cavi and how well it did it's job, got me thinking: What are some good cars/trucks out there that most people may not think so highly of? I could start with a few: 1.)The Cavalier, of course. These cars tend to do pretty well in almost everything... it's kinda sad it was so far behind most of the time.... Pretty much everyone I know (there were a few bad apples) were/are pretty happy with their Cav. I've noticed the engines will easliy outlast the body. I had to finally get rid of my 93 (the 3.1 was still running strong at almost 150k) beacuse it was rusty.... They tend to hold up well to abuse, and are pretty cheap to fix.…

Hello everyone, I am on a week long ski trip out here in Colorado - and my rental car is a 2009 Flex Fuel Chevrolet HHR. There are limited E85 fueling stations out here, so the first two tanks I ran through the car was regular gas (85 octane out here - 87 is midgrade, and 91 is the high grade). Driving through some pretty serious mountain passes (tacking 5700 in order to maintain 60mph) I averaged 32.5mpg over 700+ miles. I found a station that had E85 (2.19 per gallon vs. 2.75 per gallon of 85 octane) and filled up. I knew there was going to be a drop in fuel economy using E85, but I was a little surprised at how drastic the drop was. I went from 32.5mpg on 85 octa…

What, to you, is the best noise you've ever heard come from a car (or truck)? In your response you should, if possible find a video or sound clip for all of us to hear and enjoy it. I've thought about this one for a while. I love the sound of V8's. Ferrari V8s make some fantastic noise, however I generally prefer a deeper note. Top examples include the Corvette ZR1, Challenger SRT8, Mustang GT500, and V8 Vantage. I love V8's and plan to own one at some point. With that sound, the best sound I have ever heard is none of those. It's not a V8 either. The best sound for me comes from the Lamborghini Murcielago, specifically the LP670-4 SV. It had an add-on program where you could build your own airports and landscapes, so I built my hometown and most of Western Iowa. Then we upgraded to Flight Sim 5 around '95, and this was huge because it now had 256 colors, texture map scenery, and thousands of airports around the US. As Chris mentioned after seeing me in line for the coat check, he had a pretty good idea I would be there. I had, after all, dropped $1200 on a new camera just in time for the show. If fact, I had one whole night to play with my EOS 60D before bringing it along and depending on it for atleast a third of the show coverage. I snapped, at most, a dozen or so pictures before the show began Monday morning. Not only would I have a strange new camera to use, this was also my first time bein…

I'd like to apologize for my post the other day to you...I re-read it and it definitely came off harsher than I had remembered writing it. I also apologize for taking it too personal; that was unacceptable and out of line. I do stand by what I said regarding the anti-American comments (yes, you make quite a few of them) because that's been building for a while, yet I still should have chosen my words a bit more carefully.

I looked out my bedroom window at 4:30 this morning and saw the most glorious sight EVAR OMG... 4 inches of virgin snow blanketing the area. Put on my cap and coat and headed out for some travel. So relaxing to be out driving in the snow so early in the morning in a vehicle that can make it through, no worries. Ended up in BFE again (not the same place as before, but still VERY country, with lots of hills and winding roads.) Snowy fun!

My beautiful wife spent the afternoon working on one of her home made soups and at 4:00 she had to go out to pick up some things so she turned the soup off because she didn't want it to burn, said she'd be back in an hour. Stupid me decides he's hungry and can't wait so I decide to turn the soup back on but then I come back to cheers and gears and forget to check on the soup. Next thing you know the front door opens around 5:15 and she asks what's burning? I am such an ass.

So, anyone ever had it before? Did it go away quickly? Anyone mistake you for a drug addict? I woke up with it this morning in both eyes. I am absolutely miserable. I can't see worth a $h!, my eyes ache constantly, and I have to clean $h! outa my eyes all the time. I'm hoping that it goes away soon, but the problem I have is that I am allergic to sulfa drugs. And, all the eye drops for pink eye are sulfa based. So they gave me some ointment that might work or might not. If it doesn't I'll hae to keep trying different things until something works.

Here's my new toy! You guys know this car.......1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet..... Here's some facts: 1) Three model years ('93, '94, '95) 2) Total production was about 2,200 between all three years 3) Hand-built 4) NOT a "convertible version" of the E320 coupe 5) Uprated 3.0L Inline-6 with about 217hp (versus 177hp in the sedans) 6) Base MSRP (in '94) was about $77,000.....most went for around $80,000 with options I came across this car and it was an absolute STEAL. One of my best friends, who is a dealer/wholesaler, helped me find it. It's got 93,000 miles on it (not that you'd EVER know it) and the interior looks so much like new it's kinda scary. …

  82. TOP (green) modified by pushing front wheel forward BOTTOM (silver/blue) production 2007 DTS The wheelbase is the only thing I modified, the overall length and all else is unchanged. This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about when I say that in profile FWD cars (with transverse mounted motors esp.) are awkward, ungainly & in many cases look just plain dumb to my eyes. The front wheels look like they've been pushed back 4" to 10" and the wheelbase looks way too short as a direct result. I think the green (modified) car looks a million times better. THOUGHTS!?

As I sit here at the dealership in the main showroom full of Chevrolet & Cadillacs I think to myself, whatever the heck happened to the DEATH of the V8? We've got about 28 cars here and more than HALF of them are powered by a V8s. Silverado, Trailblazer, two STS V8s, one STS-V, SRX-V8, XLR, XLR-V, 3 Escalades, 2 DTS, Impala SS, Trailblazer SS, Avalanche, 'Burban, Monte Carlo SS, not to mention upstairs on the second floor showroom we have seven Corvettes, 2 of them Z06s powered by the 7.0 liter LS7! And before you ask how many V8s are actually on the lot I'll jump the gun and tell you the "over half are V8s" rule applies. We've got rows & rows of…

So uh huh I was at the Saturn lot this afternoon, killing time checking out the Vue there (ha). They have a two-tiered lot. I parked on the upper level, checked out some vehicles, then went down to the lower level. After checking out an orange Vue Redline, I trudged back up top... only to discover my dad and his wife checking out the cars! I said "may I help you folks?" :AH-HA_wink: Stepmom likes the Impala SS and Trailblazer SS (so does dad), but they are too expensive. Of the Saturns, she'd rather have a Vue AWD, but dad is leaning toward an Aura (he likes the price of the XE and the fuel mileage ratings). I bet they get a Vue, ha. I was checking them out becau…

  87. This weekend I participated in my yearly ritual of viewing the newest Saw flick. I must say that I was especially impressed and in fact, I think this is probably the BEST Saw movie since the original (Which IMO is the best Saw) The movie really digs deeper into why Jigsaw became what he is and invokes sympathy on the part of the viewer. It also wraps up even more of the loose ends in all three of the previous movies and it has the classic Saw twist at the end. I would reccommend it to anyone who loves suspense and psychological thrillers. It's pretty graphic but I didn't think it was as bloody or intense as the last one. (I'm very squeamish) Those of you who watch horror…

Hey guys (and our ladies, too!), I am writing to inform you of an event we have at Kettering University every spring term. This event is our annual Relay for Life walk. For those unfamiliar with Relay for Life, it is a twenty-four hour cancer walk that is done all across the United States throughout the year to raise awareness and charitable donations to benefit cancer patients. All funds raised go to the American Cancer Society to help try to find a cure, and every dollar counts when it involves such a terrible disease. Please visit the Relay for Life organization site for more information: http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/ So, at Kettering, we try to do exactly wha…

The CRV has served remarkably well in that role. I want something cheap because I don't want to spend much money before leaving for Germany (which seems to be eternally delayed). What about a final model Bravada? Anyone have any info on them?

My girlfriend and I are going to be heading down to San Fran then LA at the end of June. We're going to fly into SF, stay about 4/5 days, rent a car and drive to LA, stay about 3/4 days, then fly back from there. LA I really don't know that much about. Where are the safe areas to stay? Is transit good enough to get around with down there, or should I keep the rental car for our days in LA? Also, what should we see? San Fran I think I can handle planning on my own, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

so wisely i chose to suspend my direct tv last week. of course, until the other day, i didn't have any converter boxes either. well, i have one of them hooked up now. should be interesting to see if i am a go. does one need a whole new antennae also? i have the plasma, which has the digital tuner. I think i just need an antennae for that. i have 4 other TV's, of which 2 of them for now I will have converters for. I have an antennae hooked up to the first one which I believe is an HD antennae, but we'll see. Big question, is the converter box still worthless without a proper antennae? That's what i don't get. It's coming! Are you CONVERTED?
