The question: What cars & when used the E-Body? Don't start typing yet.... I believe a huge degree of confusion comes from those who confuse body designations with chassis designations, which are usually the same folk who want to call all BOF chassis' "platforms" as if they were unibodies. Chassis's, or frames, were NOT designated by the same body letter codes. The B-Body Buick rode a completely different chassis/frame than a B-Body Pontiac in 1960, for example. And FRAMES ARE NOT 'PLATFORMS' !!! "Buick introduces the prestige, E-body based, Riviera, as a 1963 model." --( http://www.gm.com/company/corp_info/history/gmhis1960.html ) "There was styling, of course: …

Hello everyone, I am on a week long ski trip out here in Colorado - and my rental car is a 2009 Flex Fuel Chevrolet HHR. There are limited E85 fueling stations out here, so the first two tanks I ran through the car was regular gas (85 octane out here - 87 is midgrade, and 91 is the high grade). Driving through some pretty serious mountain passes (tacking 5700 in order to maintain 60mph) I averaged 32.5mpg over 700+ miles. I found a station that had E85 (2.19 per gallon vs. 2.75 per gallon of 85 octane) and filled up. I knew there was going to be a drop in fuel economy using E85, but I was a little surprised at how drastic the drop was. I went from 32.5mpg on 85 octa…

I've been eying this 81 'Vette for a couple months, and he's lowered the price a couple times, without any bites. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/cto/902101037.html http://www.buysell.com/root/detail/BC/Coll...blk_beauty.aspx The descriptions suck, and are off-putting, but I may give them a call to see it. I've looked at a couple C3 places to see what the story on these vehicles are in terms of rust, corrosion issues and the like. However, I'm wondering if there are any words from the wise here about anything I should be looking at/concerned about, or any pointed questions I should ask him over the phone?

Earnhardt to join Hendrick Motorsports for '08 season By Joe Menzer, NASCAR.COM June 13, 2007 02:45 PM EDT MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Sixteen years after they jokingly put pen to napkin, roughly four years after his own son predicted it would happen one day and Rick Hendrick scoffed at the idea, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has joined the team at Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick and Earnhardt made it official with an 11 a.m. ET announcement Wednesday at JR Motorsports, the facility owned by Earnhardt out of which he operates a Busch Series team and other budding racing ventures (watch video). Cut the Fat: A Smaller GM is the Only Way to Go Please note this isn't actually what I want to happen, but rather what I think has to happen in order for GM to survive, and not only survive, but thrive. Here is how I would go about fixing GM: Kill: Pontiac, GMC, Buick Sell: Hummer Possibly stop selling in US: Saab Keep: Chevy, Saturn, Cadillac I'll see how long I decide to write for, but here's the basic idea: I think it's pretty obvious GMC has nothing but rebadges. I know I'm getting ahead of things, but I can't help thinking about the next "toy" I'll get after the Hawk is gone. Station wagon, 2-door Tahoe, El Camino... I'd really like to find something interesting and low-buck, you know, guilt-free cool. I really want to pump up the fun-per-dollar factor this go round. It could be a get in and drive cruiser, a project, even a curiosity. I just want something I can enjoy without breaking the bank. And, I'd like to be able to haul the pups around in it without worrying about them trashing it.

I've been to many car shows and I can usually find something to appreciate in any of them. This show, however, quickly has become one of my favorites. Walking around the Hershey Hotel, you see so many great cars that you could not find gathered in many places in the world...let alone, in Pennsylvania. If you love classic cars, this show should be on your schedule for next year. It's gathered such a reputation that organizers from some of the more established shows have made it a point to visit this one. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/4185

Currently have a car up for auction. Was contacted by eBay member who wants to bid, but is in Sweden. Auction ad states $500 deposit due within 48 hrs, balance in cash when picking up car. As the story goes, Esso Oil asked custom car guru George Barris (he of Batmobile, Munster Koach and Drag-u-la fame) to create four custom Oldsmobile Toronado coupes for the 1967 Canadian Expo. The car you see above is dubbed Toronado 67X, and according to the seller on eBay, it is one of the only two cars remaining. The big coupe was originally gold, but time and poor treatment have turned it a lovely shade of something other than gold (well, several lovely shades, actually). Although the auction has just ended, we thought you'd still enjoy a glimpse of what the seller calls the "Project car find of a lifetime" (which might be how long it would take to get it back toget…

Okay, I know a bunch of you eBay like myself. I usually scope out car parts and airplane memorabilia. You may go for sporting equipment, autographed photos, fabrege eggs, Selma Hayck's panties, whatever. But the point of this is to find an eBay Motors Gem. In other words, a complete car for sale on eBay that is in such a condition that you would only find it on eBay. That, or the listing is simply hillarious. Here's my first entry and an example: 1979 Lincoln Versailles Premier *Seamlessly-extended front end to accomodate 'spare' wheels. *"Vynal" roof with aged rust lines. By It Now Price: $6500

Just made my first purchase last week, and I'm really brand new to this eBay thing. I was the winning bid for some equipment 7 days ago, and of course had to wait until Wednesday for the PayPal transfer to clear (since the funds weren't aleready up). Of course the seller said he wouldn't ship until he received payment. I know it's Thanksgiving and all, but I'm getting really anxious about the whole thing. How long before I should report the item as not received and go to PayPal about getting the funds back?

Okay, so I'm new (and quickly becoming addicted) to buying stuff on eBay. The latest auction I've become interested in is a BuyItNow () auction with the option of Best Offer (). I plan on making an offer, rather than resorting to paying the BuyItNow price. On the Submit Best Offer page, it says “Make this offer your Best Offer. You can only make 1 offer on this item.”. My question is, if my offer is declined...that's it? I can't counter-offer with a higher amount? If that's the case, anyone have any advice on how low the seller might be willing to go? I mean, why make the Best Offer option available if you aren't willing to sell at a lower price? TIA -Bim…

Edmunds Evaluation: Ford Expedition v. Chevy Tahoe While the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe LT is a nice piece, with a much appreciated dashboard makeover and stout towing performance, the lack of a stowable, adult-friendly third-row seat and a higher price caused it to trail behind its arch-nemesis when the results were tallied. And even though this is an all-new truck, important subsurface chunks of it feel outdated. Yes, the unanimous judges' decision went to Ford's 2007 Expedition Limited, with its well-sorted steering and handling, controlled ride, very good towing performance and an adult-sized third-row seat that, importantly, folds flat into the floor. At 12:00 I picked up Sofia at the fromer in-laws in Harvard, MA & then at 1:00 we arrived at a Birthday party in Lowell. Then a few hours later at 5:00 I dropped off Sofia in Haverhill with my parents & hit Rt.495 for the 4th time today. All of a sudden I see pink slime... (dexcool) pouring out of the hood seams and my temp. gauge is at a solid "pull the f**k over and shut her off" So apparently that used, rebuilt water pump I just installed was crap. This is partially my fault for taking the gamble with it,…

Saturday, I cleaned up the Cobalt to take some pictures. As I was driving around town, I noticed another Cobalt behind me, driving a bit aggressively. I came to a red light, and it pulled up next to me. I took a quick glance, it was a Blue Granite LT four door with a young Latin driver, windows down, sunroof open, blasting his music. I sat quietly, eyes locked on the traffic light. When it turned green, I laid a major patch of rubber and caught second gear. Next red light, I'm in the turning lane, he pulls up next to me, salutes, grins and says "all stock?" I said (a bit amused) "yeah". He looked at my clean green car with the new rims and said "beeeautiful..." I…

So tonight I was thinking to myself how cool it would be to have more eight tracks since I now own two vehicles with a functioning eight track player. I currently only have two, which means Jimi Hendrix Smash Hits is getting boring in the brown '78 Coupe DeVille and Led Zeppelin III is getting overplayed in the yellow '77. Do any of you guys have any you'd be willing to part with? If so, let me know!

Election Night In Your Town

Tonight is the night that is election night in your town. In Detroit, the major story is Kwame Kilpatrick vs. Freeman Hendrex for mayor of Detroit. As it looks right now, Freeman will be the NEW mayor of Detroit, something I sincerely hope happens. Thoughts and what not on local elections in your town?

This years elections seem to hold much more weight this year than in previous elections. We're at a time where Imagration Reform & such is high on our congressmen and womens plates. Factor in Governer elections and it's going to be a busy year! I may actually have to vote Republican for Governer here in Michigan. Dick Devos has a message I like.

I'm sure most people receive these email scams from time to time. from time to time i read these scams because they have an interesting title or seem like they could be from an aquantance or someone who wants me have certain knowledge about something. I read this one today, an email I received, I will share with you because not only does it involve a cash prize, but a Toyota... I believe it to be interesting to involve a global company in some sort of human resource finding scam... your thoughts? I edited the reference number just in case it is somehow linked to my email

I like it when cars have individual model emblems, not just emblems for the make. About the only "corporate" emblem I like is the first emblem pictured. All of these pics are crops from pictures I've taken.... Anyone else prefer individual model emblems and/or take pics of emblems? After this week, I am likely going to be in the position of having to find another set of wheels. Yes, I've had plenty of vehicles in my life, but this is different. This time I had no itch for something new. There is no kid-in-a-candy store feeling in me. No yearning for something new. Now it's just a matter of practicality, necessity, that brings me to this point. Under these circumstances, I am not likely to enjoy the process. I have never been in such a situation. I don't want to make a bad choice. Before this, I was thinking out a couple of years to a Gamma crossover, Cruze coupe, new-style Impreza Outback Sport, new-style GM compact pickup... vehicles that …

Well yeah, since finding out shock-n-awe style on May 15th that the bodyshop I work at would be closed by the end of the munt due to a multi-year drop-off in business (yes, that was today, our last day) despite a golden local reputation that was built over nearly 5 decades, all my staff have been clearly in emotional turmoil. Some have worn it on their sleeves while others have appeared to be resigned (bad word) to the fact almost from the minute of the announcement. Some wished the axe had dropped immediately and more mercifully, instead of two weeks of torture as we choked off our insurance company contracts and watched our business drop to near zero by the end, while…

Empty Promises: The Top 10 Automotive Technologies We Didn't Get By black-knight (Editor/Reporter) for Cheers and Gears.com Saturday, 8th January, 2011 For over a century and a half, mankind has made amazing strides in automotive technology. The car itself has been an amazing tribute to just how far we as human beings will go to keep our spot right on top of the food chain in the grand scheme of things and to how ingenuitive we are to keep solving problems. However, we sometimes don't exactly lend well to ourselves and push the envelope as far as we have in the past in the name of invention and innovation, and with your help we have chosen a some of the high-tec…

Empty Promises: What Mind-Blowing Automotive Technologies Didn't You Get? By black-knight (Editor/Reporter) for Cheers and Gears.com 23rd December, 2010 It goes without saying that since the automobile became a way of life (in whatever degree of capacity it is depending on the person), automakers have always chosen to make the sky the limit on what technologies the car of tomorrow (read: concept car) should have and, more often than not, they also throw in a promise that those nifty futuristic features will come optional or standard on a brand new car at your local Hometown dealer within your lifetime. The hype is huge and, inevitably, you begin to look forward …

My dad is slipping away minute by minute and taking care of him becomes a bit more difficult each day. My family is on constant call and we have been taking turns dealing with the off-hour care that he needs. It's a truly draining experience and all of us are tired - most of all my dad. The hardest part is how much more difficult it is to communicate with him now and to understand him on the rare occassions when he speaks. He is less present all the time and aware only in a vague way. The experience is even more overwhelming than I had ever thought it would be. This may sound stupid, but I'm not really looking for sympathy with this post. It's more the need to just "put…

So after sitting at the shop for over a week, they finally looked over the Intrepid. For those of you who don't know, it's been parked in the driveway since late November, when on our way home we could hear the timing chains contacting things they shouldn't because they were so loose. So it rested quietly for the winter, besides when I went out to start it, until I could get it fixed. I got a call around 2 telling me to come down to the shop. What they showed me was that the oil was milky...which meant that the headgasket had failed. How long ago it failed I'm not sure, but odds are it's been long enough to do damage. This, coupled with the fact that it needs timing cha…

I admit it, I am a complete caffeine addict. Coffee is ok, but nothing gets me going like a nice, unhealthy Rockstar or Rumba, or if I can find it, some Bawls. Like cocaine, only available at gas stations. But today I had a weird experience, I drank my usual mornign Rockstar, and afterwards I was extremely jittery and restless, which never happens to me. I didn't crash either, just kinda slowed back down to normal. It was weird and kinda freaky. I think I'm gonna cut back now.

Energy Plan Political Pandering Whenever Congress puts together a bill attempting to find a solution to some sort of real or imagined problem, my immediate thought is that the bill do one of four things: It will worsen the problem at hand It will do nothing to solve the problem but instead create a new problem somewhere else It will worsen the original problem and create new problems In the very best case it will do nothing at all Consider the ethanol plan. Growing corn to produce ethanol was supposed to help make us energy independent. What happened was that subsidies to grow corn (an energy wasteful process without the subsidies), did not cause gasoline pri…

Enterprise Rent-A-Car delivered a Saturn Outlook to the dealership shop after the check-engine light appeared and the engine quit running. The problem? Enterprise records showed zero oil changes after 30,000 miles. Brutal results below. As you might expect, going 30,000 miles without an oil change is not a recommended break-in procedure, and as a result the engine oil completely broke down turning into a thick greasy sludge. After finding this mess, technicians contacted Enterprise to see if their records showed any oil changes, which they did not, though it's suspected at some point at least one change was done as the factory oil filter has been replaced. Of course, th…

Both? I guess? I mean, just watch a few of these and tell me with a straight and honest face that you didn't giggle like a school girl at a One Direction concert at least one time. Here's a review for the Saturn L-Series that also informs us that the Catera was "Cadillac's Chris Gaines album." I have no words. This one ... would never meet John Davis's standards. No, not the one from the metal band that misspelled the name of a four-letter vegetable so that they could brand their music as edgy. I mean the bald one that's on PBS and chatters on about the newest Honda Accord with the sterility of a post-vasectomy middle-aged man cowering beneath a set of bleach…

I enjoy making up words, so there may be further installments, but we'll see how this one goes first. Original word: anachronism--something out of chronological order, that belongs in a different era. Example: Moses wearing a wristwatch in "The Ten Commandments." Enzora-fied word: anachromism--something that is of a color that would not be seen as logical. Example: Automakers choose bright/flashy colors for sporty cars, but due to cost-effectiveness, put it on all other models as well. Which creates...... Bam! Teal minivan! (Special thanks go out to Croc and razoredge for inspiring my thought on the meaning of the word root "chrom.")
