It's 2012 and alternative fuels are widely available. Ethanol has taken 25% of gasoline's market and Bio-diesel is common across the nation both as a motor fuel and for home heatng use. Fuel cell/ electrics are offered by all major manufacturers and home re-fueling is an affordable option for them as well as the increasing number of Hydrogen-fueled ICE cars. Record numbers of wind farms are operational, new nuclear plants are finally being built, and solar is coming into its own. CAFE really looks silly at this point. BTW: crude oil prices are dropping - steadily. So where will the automakers be?

Let's say you have 35k to spend on a "fun" car. Not a practical, logical, useful car - one that's strictly for fun. Here are the conditions: 1) has to be a one-owner car 2) new cars not eligible 3) must have very, very, low miles for the year 4) must be collectible or potentially collectible 5) must be domestic What would you buy?

If you were offered a 2005 bottom-of-the-rung compact vehicle with 10k miles in your price range would you be stupid to continue to look at an 8 year older vehicle with not nearly as low of mileage? Now, the first vehicle is pretty far from what you're looking for. The only option it has is for an automatic transmission, which is an option better left unchecked in your opinion. Crank windows, not a power amenity to be found, and its about as exciting as watching water flow by. It does have a good engine, even if the exhaust note has your Hoover vacuum confused. It doesn't really have any bad reputation, it's mostly average. The second vehicle is what you've been look…

There was a time, at its height, that GM owned around 60% of the vehicle market in the United States. There was talk of government intervention to prevent GM from becoming too big. My question to the group is: Let's say it is 2010, and GM still commanded such huge market share. What would we be driving? What manufacturers would be present here? What would competitors' lineups look like, with GM holding such influence over the overall market?

As the title says, this is mostly hypothetical... as in, if by some rare streak of luck I am able to afford to purchase a decent vehicle. Basically, I'm looking for suggestions/ideas/opinions. I want something that's reliable, economical, easy to live with, and fun. To start, I want suggestions that hold true. Anyone can make a case in favor of a, say... Sunfire or Blazer... Doesn't mean they're worthy of purchasing. Reputations beyond what a few GM enthusiasts think should be taken into consideration. The same goes for any manufacturer. I don't want any 'blinded by bias' suggestions. Personal experience is another thing. It's probably the most telling and most diverse…

The other night I was watching a basketball game on TV, and I saw the same commercial for the Sonata about 5 times. At first it's just driving around and whatnot, and then it enters a tunnel. The tunnel scene is VERY similar to the V-Series commercial where the cars start in a tunnel, and then it comes out of the tunnel very similarly to how the V-Series cars do. Has anyone else seen the commercial? If I was Cadillac marketing, I'd be PISSED at Hyundai right now.

That time of year again, opening day is tomorrow. Well, the real opening day, those two games in Tokyo dont count. Hopefully this season ends a little better for my Cubbies, the 3-game sweep out of the playoffs sucked. A World Series title would be great, a pennant would be ok. It will be nice watching the Cards lose. Predictions: AL East - Red Sox AL Central - Indians AL West - Mariners AL Wild Card - Tigers NL East - Mets NL Central - Cubs NL West - Rockies NL Wild Card - Phillies World Series - Cubs over Indians

I really do. Wednesday and Thursday, I was thoroughly enjoying New York City. It was quite a spontaneous trip. Before Monday, I was just planning on my usual "ass sitting exercises". A friend of mine asked me to go and was going to pay my way. How could I refuse? Come Tuesday night, I got picked up to be ready for our flight in the morning. By 11 am Wednesday, I was in the city and would be there until 9 pm Thursday. It didn't give me much time for sight seeing, as he was mainly there to look for an apartment, but I got to enjoy Times Square and the surrounding area. The rest, I would simply call experiences rather than enjoyment. Like the Subway, the poorer sections o…

I really do. Such good deals. Like this chair I got. For some time no my office chair has been broken...the seat wobbles and it feels like the mounting bracket is pushing through the cushion and against me. The other day I figured I'd look into what the problem was. Turns out the plarticlboard that the bottom of the seat is made of fractured, and the bracket really was pushing into the bottom cushion. As it also turns out the actual bracket has fractured. So the seat's junk and becoming more uncomfortable each day. I really noticed it a couple days ago when I spent almost all day working on the computer. Now, when I bought it I bought a warranty for it that covers bas…

Learned how to drive three-on-the-tree. '77 Chevy G10 (I think, it was a big van) Not nearly as awkward as I would have thought. It also kept up with traffic pretty well considering it was laden with old furniture and stuff going to Goodwill. I had to learn on the fly too, since the guy who loaned it to me just asked if I could drive a manual and threw the keys at me. The hard part was figuring out that what I assumed would be first was actually reverse.

Wanted to get out of the house as it's been a boring weekend. Drove south a few miles toward Conestoga, PA, and sawr a sign for "Shenk's Mill Wildflower Preserve". Not really familiar with the area even though it's like 6 miles south of my house. Suddenly, the blacktop ended and the road turned to gravel with some decent washouts and steep down- and uphill approach and departures. I turned around at a railroad track and took a different route. It was like I dropped off the face of the earth. I lowered the window to listen for the sound of banjos... Little Patriot pulled through well. I got a little mud on 'im. It turned out to be a fun excursion.

Words simply don't explain what I saw today: A women beating her kid so hard that the little boy sounded like he was being killed. This little guy was around around the age of mine. The little guy was being a bit of a brat, but nothing uncommon for the age. Then the woman just snapped, and went to town smacking the little guy. And she didn't stop. To hear a child screaming in that is.....so horrible. Being a "newer" dad-that hits home. My co worker and I looked on in horror. I headed over to stop it, but a customer got to her first. Cops got there pretty quick. I was so pissed, I had to go outside to "cool" off. I wasn't allowed back in until the lady was in…

I wrecked my Sierra today in the rain. Not nearly as bad as last time, thankfully. I cannot believe it, I'm in shock still, I guess. After leaving the BPG dealership to get an oil change/tire rotation, I was traveling on a double-lane road, in the left lane there was a guy ahead of me going really slow, like he was on his cell phone. I went to pass him in the right lane, the truck suddenly fishtailed out of control, I fishtailed 3 or 4 times (raining heavily at the time) but I couldn't hold it, I tagged a stinkin' 90 Jetta in the passenger front door... driver's side front corner of my truck, same as before, then I spun completely around and crunched the curb with my…

What an intresting month, General Motors has a less than stellar month thanks to idot UAW workers striking, high gas prices and market heading towards the $h!ter. Toyota manages to push more ugly vanila Camry's than last May. My sons boss took his 2006 Ford F-150 Super Crew FX4 and traded it on a 2008 Honda Accord EX 4cyl. Sedan, lost his ass on the sweet red truck I know. (I can't fault him for getting a Honda my son said to him as long as it isn't a Toyota Ken (which it is not) I wish you the best of luck with it!) So let the rant begin. I can't believe the number of Prius's that keep poping up in my town. Those ugly little most likely slow moving "gr…

It's over. I can't support such a company any longer. Because of that, I cannot remain a part of the staff of C&G. I value the friends I have made here, and I don't intend to disappear completely, but this site has always been about the future of GM - and I no longer believe it has one. So, as of tomorrow, I hope to be just a regular member here. I will stop by now and then, read a bit, post about old cars, and be on my way again. To do otherwise would be dishonest.

So yeah... after all the years of joking and making fun of Frank for popping his collar, I finally feel bad for it since I see the logic in it. You see... popped collars not only keep youre neck warm... they hide hickeys well. Ah... for those nonexistant few that noticed my own nonexistance this weekend, it was because I travelled down to Somerset, Pa to meet a cool boy I've been chatting with. For having only chatted with him online, I unusually liked him alot. So, in my search for love and wanting to finally be in a relationship with a guy, I went down to meet him. Okay, so I thought I was going insane before... but now I've done it: I want a 3/4 foreign car. Used, of course. I hate the Bronco. It gets the worst gas mileage I could ever have a nightmare and dream of, it runs like $h!, doesn't want to crank over in the cold (and I'm not buying a new battery), and has other issues too. So, come spring, I'm going to fix it up as much and as quick as I can and put it on the block for sale. Hopefully I'll make a little cash off of it and save a little for my NEXT winter car... I'm thinking about a DSM. That's right, I said it. A '95-99 Eclipse GS-T or GSX with a 5 speed. Something that will get better gas mileage (es…

Yes, sad. To put it simply... I really, really, really reeeeaaaally enjoyed NAIAS. It was likely no secret that I was the alluded to third member of our C&G trio for Detroit, this year. As Chris mentioned after seeing me in line for the coat check, he had a pretty good idea I would be there. I had, after all, dropped $1200 on a new camera just in time for the show. If fact, I had one whole night to play with my EOS 60D before bringing it along and depending on it for atleast a third of the show coverage. I snapped, at most, a dozen or so pictures before the show began Monday morning. Not only would I have a strange new camera to use, this was also my first time bein…

Bleh, I never set up Word when I got this computer a few years ago. I rarely use it, but yesterday I got an email from my dad about our big family reunion this weekend, and there's a Word attachment with the itinerary I'm supposed to print out. When I try to print it, it says I need to set it up and I need to furnish my "product key", a 25 digit number, which was supposed to be written on the CD case, I guess, or the book... somewhere. That stuff is all gone, I don't know of a way to find that product key now. Can anyone help me set up Word so I can print this document? Many thanks.

Story Link By JIM IOVINO Updated 12:54 PM EDT, Thu, Jul 23, 2009 Erik Bonstrom considers himself a safe driver. So imagine his surprise when he was stopped along Route 50 Tuesday evening in Prince George's County, Md., -- for going too slow. "Coming back on Route 50, the speed limit is 55 and I was pulled over by a Maryland State trooper," Bonstrom said. "When I asked him why, he said I was going too slow and issued me an $80 ticket for going 58 in a 65." Bonstrom said he tried to reason with the trooper as passing cars whizzed by. "To me, you are punishing a safe driver and there are many cars that were passing me, and I guess it was just easier to pull me …

the new Dodge Challenger and how bad I want one....I haven't felt this way about a car in a long time....except for maybe when the Chrysler 300C came out...I love GM, but Chrysler has been releasing the type of cars I love...whether their execution is great or not is up for debate....but large RWD is my passion and GM sort of lacks that at least in a package I find appealing. I almost feel like I'm cheating on GM if I buy a Challenger, but I've been outside GM before, so I guess it wouldn't be the first time. But yet I wish it was a 2009 Oldsmobile 442 coming out. Perhaps I am wound a little too tight, but my Wife & I will soon be in the market for a midsize sedan, and nothing in GM's lineup appeals to either one of us. A big reason? GM's abandonment of traditional domestic style controls! Wipers belong on the left hand stalk; the headlight switch belongs on the dash, and most of all, I expect a *real* tilt style column in my GM vehicle! Ford seems to get it; GM doesn't. The new Fusion eschewed a Mazda 6 style steering column, for traditional domestic controls. If I want import style controls, I will by an import. Fit and finish and powertrain sophistication, has improved with new GM vehicles. Unfortunately, GM veh…

I bought a PS3. I've had the urge to lately, but wanted to wait until GT5 was finally released. Yesterday, I decided to act upon this urge and purchased one along with the game 'Fallout 3'. I'm hitting up Ebay for more games as I type. I probably should have splurged for the 250 GB model, but I figured I would never really use the extra disc space anyways and went with the cheaper 120 GB model. With my slow internet connection, I can't see myself downloading a bunch of extras. We have a well rounded household line-up now. PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, and even an old Sega Genesis. If I still had my Sega Dreamcast, it'd be even better. I'm looking forward to some fun gaming, …

Maybe someone can explain this to me. How is a car that isn't suppose to be on sale until early 2008 being sold USED by a private owner in Lexington, Kentucky? Excuse the image quality, they were taken with my wife's 2MP camera phone, didn't have our Kodak with us. Anyone care to guess where this came from?

So I just found out that Brittany's been cheating on her boyfriend with me and I didn't know it until I messaged the dude on myspace about a half hour ago. She said they were really good friends and then he told me to call him because he had to find out what was going on. Come to find out they've been going out for 8 months and she's been with him everytime she says she's going to the mall or something. I'm so sick to my stomach. She was everything I could've asked for and more. WTF?!

On one of my other forums somebody posted the story about Toyota's hush money and rust on the Tacomas and said "when will the big three start using loyalty to their customers?" http://forums.ifdg.net/index.php?s=&sh...ost&p=92739 How can you possibly look at it that way and neglect that the trucks are $h!.

A while back, my neighbors put their little house cat outside because she "attacked" their daughter (I think it may have been the other way around, but I digress). She was in heat. So of course a tomcat got to her and knocked her up... she was a homeless little girl in trouble. They put food out for her, but didn't let her back inside any more. She's been hopping over from their deck to mine from time to time if she knows my door is open. She'd been trying to get into my house. I've been petting her and being nice to her, but I didn't want to let her in. I had the door open this morning, she heard me through the screen door, so she hopped over and started crying he…

So, I don't plan on having the Toyota for too much longer. If it doesn't sell (seems like this will be the case), I'm just going to trade it in. My dilemma pertains to the recurring fact that I am beyond indecisive. I look at vehicle after vehicle, day after day, and I can never whittle down what exactly I want. My tastes are always changing based on the flavor of the day (usually something impractical). What I do know is this: I need a car. It should be cheaper to own (incl. gas, ins, etc.). It mustn't be a snore. I can't do another car like the Avalon; it kills me everyday. It must be a stick or at least a dual-clutch that isn't made by Ford/Fiat. It should have a f…

I'm not sure, maybe I'm just mentally ill or something. In the past two days, I've been going around, pissing people off and doing some really obnoxious things. First I threw the recycling bins at the front porch where my housemates enter, seeing the bins sitting around after I took them after the garbage day. Then at work, I seemed to have made the already not so pleasant relation with my co-worker co-ops worse. Today one of my coworkers made a stupid comment on how the Camry was a sports car, I literally yelled at him. He was like astonished. Then I started making some stupid comments about my other co-worker, somehow to just for the heck of getting her irritated. Th…

I don't mean it in any disrepect to the US but I don't have to go down to Detroit anymore for college!!!! I am very pleased as it was going to cost a fortune. I just found out that Humber College in Toronto is the first school in Canada to offer Automotive Design. This is great so I can stay at home and drive down everyday. This school will also be cheaper to get into, don't need to pay for residence, and it is all in Canada within 45 minutes from me now. Now this is only bad for me in the aspect that: I probably won't be getting another car until I can save up for a relatively new commuter and I will have to commute everyday even in our nasty winters.

A crane toppled over at one of our job sites today, crushing a Silverado, part of a Sierra, sheared off a corner of the contractor office, and flattened half of a guard shed. Amazingly, nobody was injured even though workers were in both buildings. The boom crane that fell was being used to erect two larger tower cranes (taken a couple hours before it tipped over).

So I was talking to a friend today and he said his dad was buying himself a brand new FJ Cruiser to replace his 1996 Grand Voyager. Apparently he paid cash for it already and is taking delivery on Thursday. So what did I do? I told his son about the Frame problems, and showed pictures, and directed him to this site and others and told him of some of Toyota's other follies that nobody gets to here about. Last I heard, his dad was on his way to the Toyota dealer to tell the salesman the deal was off. () Chock one up for the good guys.

What do you have set as your ringtone? I've got "Go Home, Get Stoned" set for most callers, my family groups ringtone is Basket Case by Green Day (Do you have the time to listen to me whine...) which fits perfectly. I also have Brown-Eyed Girl, Lets Get it On and Cotton Eyed Joe as ringtones for various groups.

I cannot believe Mr. Stern is allowing this go on any longer. DULL SLOW BORING CRAPPY SPURS BASKETBALL. Tim Duncan is the most boring NBA star in history. The don't exactly play LEGAL ball. Robert Horry warms the bench all year so come playoff time he has legs to hit three pointers at key times. And other little tricks to piss people off. Who wants to watch 58-57 games? SPURS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!! DULL DULL DULL DULL DULL DULL DULL! I'd rather watch ocnblu in the wading pool! MY GOD THE SPURS SUCK! GO LEBRON!

A while back I think I posted a question about the automatic locking feature...basically mine stopped working and I wanted to know why. I never bothered to get it fixed, and lived without it. I was browsing through my owner's manual today and came across information about the headlights. Basically you can program them to stay on for a minute or so after you turn the car off or disable the feature. It got me thinking....I wonder if the automatic locking system is programmable? Sure enough, you can enable or disable it. So I followed the instructions and sure enough they work again. I just don't know how they were disabled in the first place. Oh well, nice to ha…

Why, may you ask? Well, it's because my Millenia really was bad purchase. Oh no... It still runs great and has been problem free thus far, but it is such a gas hog. I only get about 23 mpg average and it is really annoying. The highest I've gotten has been 26 mpg and that was only once. Now, for a 2.5L V6 engine with only 170hp... I'd expect alot better. Being that it takes Premium makes it worse. Between the V6 and the automatic... I really am regretting buying it. I knew I should have stuck with "4cyl, manual" for buying a car. But I was getting slack from you guys to "open up my options" and not be "picky" since I "just need a reliable car". Well, I'm stuck with one …

So I'll get right to it. Just got news that the mother of someone I knew (not a friend, not an enemy, just an acquaintance) in elementary school has died suddenly and there will be a funeral on Saturday afternoon. Problem is coming up on the following Monday are the diploma exams for Math and Chemistry both subjects I'm sitting below 80% in and they are worth 50% of my mark (I need to get an above 80 overall average to get into the Business School I want). Just this morning I figured out through calculation that I'll need all weekend as well as until 1am every night till then to be ready for this sucker, and low, while I'm out my mom answers the phone, finds out about …

Make sure your sound isn't too high when you hit play. Rotor noise sped up 2000% doesn't sound so nice. Also make sure you put it on 720p. Though you might have to pause and let it load a bit before you hit play again with 720p. The funny thing was, it wasn't even my choice. I was given 3 airports to fly to, and this was the course it required.

I found a 67 or 68 Eldorado, gold in colour, east of my town and I really want it. It is in need of desperate restoration but the body and paint and still alright. I felt sorry for it because it is buried in a snowbank made by a snow plow in a lot with 2 or 3 Corvettes, 86 and 87 Corvettes. It is right beside a shop and I need to know whether parts for these are hard to come by. I know parts cars probably are. Also, are these reliable enough to make the trip to Woodward. I will update next time I find out some info.

It is a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier sedan. 2.2L 4 cylinder with the 4-speed auto. It has 235,000kms which is about 183,000 miles I believe. The transmission has been rebuilt, the car has had two owners and was bought in my hometown and driven there. It was used as a commuter car to Toronto everyday which is about 90kms one way. The car is in very good running condition, has been e-tested. I dont think the radio works but I wanted to get a new one anyways because I need a CD player. The car does have some body rust but it is minor (surface rust) under the gas tank and on both rear quarter panels. The rockers are also getting a bit rusty but everything else seems solid. They ev…

Hey guys, I know I should probably add this to my Long-term project thread, but this is rather profound to me. I believe I have found my project car. Now I must wait until I come up with the 1,000 required to procure such vehicle. Turns out there's a little abandoned house down the road from my grandparents and parents houses. Sitting in the backyard happens to be 1 1963, possibly 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix. The car is red in color with a white interior (don't ask my how I found this out considering the "no trespassing" signs up). There is rust along the rear window sill, but it doesn't appear to be rust-through. I heard through a friend of a friend, whom is also i…

This is the car I found for my dad. I am really wanting to get this car as a present for Father's day/his birthday. I have the money but it just depends if he wants it. We will have to go get it and tow it back. It is only $1100 and needs emergency brake cables to be certified. The only other thing needed is bodywork to be done. There is some rust. The vinyl top and interiors are mint and all the chrome is as well. Plus it is a hardtop coupe. Here it is 1976 Dodge Royal Monaco hardtop. It would make a good restoration.

Sixty8, you should know what I found, a 1981 Chrysler Imperial Frank Sinatra Edition. It is located in New York and is on Ebay. I have already contacted the seller because I find this a nice and desirable car. For me it is a must have. Classy and there was 148 built in 81. So far it is at $800. I will see what the buyer says because I want to bring it back to Canada but I may have time to meet up with some members if I do. SHipping is too expensive so we would rent a U-Haul or borrow our friends flatbed to bring it over. Just depends if the buyer will sell it to Canadians. If not then I will be extremely mad because these are rare. It is such a good price too for what …

I've searched the world over for a car that I think would fill the bill for blu's new car. This car has a small frame and is low to the ground, just like blu. He can easily escape/run away (no pun intended to Ford) from the next gay driver he smashes into since this car has no doors or roof. It will allow him easy access, always a plus to the car too. It will also allow him to tan on those HOTTTT AMISH days in Lancaster, PA. Ladies and Gentlemen I bring you the Zest, which comes in an assortment of bright colors so others will be able to see blu approaching from miles away in all directions. This car is also good for trips to nude campgrounds in PA. I've asked CPF, if we …

Yes, I got a new car. I needed something a little bigger, more practical, and not so racy. I like the TSX but it just wasn't meant to be after all, maybe in a few years when the V6 and SH-AWD are available. I still have my Integra but I intend to sell it. So what is it? Well for that you guys are going to have to guess. I'll give a hint and a picture: It has 48,997 miles on it. What did I buy?

I have been driving a 95 Buick Regal since I totaled my 01 Sunfire about a year ago. Today, I (with MAJOR help from my parents) traded it in on a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo! It wasn't my first choice, but I am really stoked...It is EXTREMELY clean. It's white with the black interior and "aluminum" trim. Anyways...when I get a chance I will take some pictures and hopefully someone here can help me post them!

Well, I'm on a job site (I work for the contracting company my father works for now, by the way. No more fueling planes) and I parked in a space reserved for BAY MONT BANK CUSTOMERS ONLY. They have 9 spaces 'reserved', 7 of them empty, while the rest of the lot - minus the disabled ones - is full. So, its either park in one of those spots like myself and all the subcontractors normally do or park on the fifth floor 'visitors' section of the parking structure a about 1/5-mile away. I know two of the security guys; one's nice, the other thinks he's Jack Webb or somebody with actual importance. So, I get a ticket from Depty Dufus for 'unautho…
