... for driving domestic. I was talking to my friend yesterday, and he starts explaining how Chinese people should not be driving an American, and I should switch off from my Pontiac on my next car. He says it's a matter of reputation and it's destroying mine. sigh... This perception thing will never end.

Money is not a great thing... having said that, the wife has brought to my attention that financially we're not in a "good place". Having bought the SKY last year and it's limited use has always been a sore spot with the wife (the home equity loan payment plus full insurance coverage don't help). She feels that by selling the car to pay off other debts would be the best thing financially, although she does say that she doesn't want the car to go. So anyway, if I had to sell the SKY, is anyone here interested in buying it? I'm trying to weigh out my options, like going back to my selling Saturn dealer and seeing what they'd offer to buy it, put an ad in AutoShopper o…

It appears the weather will be cooperating (for the most part) for this year's massive Spring Cruise at Ocean City, MD. Thousands of hot cars of every description will descend on the ocean resort town starting today and running through the weekend. I'll be heading down Saturday morning to join some family members and probably spending the night. At a time like this I wish I had a digital camera so I could post a hugh jass picture thread when I get back. Is anyone else from here heading to Ocean City for this awesome event?

WASHINGTON – States cannot ban the sale or rental of ultraviolent video games to children, the Supreme Court ruled Monday, rejecting such limits as a violation of young people's First Amendment rights and leaving it up to parents and the multibillion-dollar gaming industry to decide what kids can buy. The high court, on a 7-2 vote, threw out California's 2005 law covering games sold or rented to those under 18, calling it an unconstitutional violation of free-speech rights. Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia, said, "Even where the protection of children is the object, the constitutional limits on governmental action apply." Scalia, who pointed out the viol…

So in addition to tinkering with my car I've started tinkering with my plane. After not one but two crashes yesterday which managed to do a good chunk of damage to the plane, I fixed it up and did another upgrade. It now has larger wheels, because they look cool and more proportionate, but more importantly they make the plane more stable during taxiing, takeoff, and landing on grassy surfaces. Since we always fly in a field, this has made life much easier. Made a huge difference today. Naturally I can't resist an excuse to take photos. Besides, Captainnbooyah wanted to see them.

Okay, you guys knew it was eventually coming. We did a HP installment (of which there is still more coming, so stay tuned), one based on displacement, and several other various ones along the way, so it's only natural we do one based on cylinder count. So with that, we will do the first one- the humble 4 cylinder. Disdained and mocked by many, 4 cylinder engines indisputably power some of the greatest cars ever built. From historic cars of unspeakable significance; to sport compact cars that punch above their weight class; to nimble off-roaders; to backroad, gravel trail, and road course slaying terrors; everyone should be able to find something they like her…

and still the images are clear and raw. Certain bits of that horror still flash into my mind in total clarity. Once in a while if there's nothing good on TV and Sofia wants to to watch some cartoons I'll throw in one of our several seasons of the Simpsons on DVD. After having watched the ENTIRE 4th season twice already in the past few months I decided to look at the special features last night... Funny stuff. For some fantasticly hillarious reason they decided to include the Kamp Krusty episode in the bonus features in several interesting languages. The two that caught my eye as interesting were Brazilian Portugese and Japanese. So I'm bored and I decide, why not.... I'll watch Kamp Krusty in Japanese. Just for the sheer hilarity. If for nothing else, Homer say…

I took my truck in to my selling dealer on July 9th for its first oil change and a warranty concern. Intermittently I had to fasten and refasten my seatbelt about 4 times to get the light in the dash to go out. Obviously, the problem was in the switch in the buckle. Here's how that went: The dealership is in a small town about 10 miles away. I was on vacation, so I waited and browsed the lot while they did their thing. A couple of customers (old guys retired) were hanging out bs ing with the techs in their bays while they worked. I was in and out, didn't want to crowd the tech working on my truck as I know they don't appreciate being watched by customers who may no…

I went downstairs last night to let my dog out to pee, and when I turned the back light on, I saw two slugs fu*king while stuck to my sliding glass door. Being the mean guy that I am, I decided to break up the party by sprinkling salt on them. They unhooked themselves, contracted their bodies, and started going in circles while secreting a shitload of slime all over my glass door. It was DISGUSTING. It looked like a camel with a cold sneezed on it. They finally dropped off the glass and started (relatively) running away. I immediately turned the hose sprayer on the door, but that slug slime is tough! It stuck like Krazy Glue, but finally, the full-blast spray …

I've been super busy so I have not had a chance to report on my experience with the curse... On a cold, icy road the other day, going downhill in the freezing rain and slowing down to a stop at a red light the X-Terra in front of me stopped very abruptly. I was about two car length's behind the truck in my Datsun & as I slid to a stop on a sheet of ice I bumped the X-Earth's trailer hitch with my little Maxima's headlight/blinker & cut the top of the matte black bumper cover. I was pissed at myself, first off I was on the clock so I HAD to get to a delivery, and second despite absolutely no damage to her cast iron trailer hitch my Datsun had…

I'm wondering if you guys do this to. There are certain cars that, with my eyes closed, I can identify simply by noises they make. List the car and describe the sounds that you can identify. Honda 4-cylinders - sound on startup Mitsubishi 4-cylinders - sound when engine revs <they have a very unique whine to them> Chrysler FWD automatics - sound when decelerating to a stop. GM 3800s - start up, engine rev GM Quad4 with low oil - has a very unique engine knock after it's been abused. Ford 302s - very unique, unrefined, start up sound Northstar V8 - unique startup sound GM 5.3 - idle... though I'm not sure that I've not mistaken a 6.0 for a 5.3

Ok...so as it happens I came across someone who is parting out their `99 300M. He says the motors good and only has 30k on it (not sure if that's the car or just the engine yet). He said he's willing to negotiate a price for the whole car minus what he's parting out. What I want to know is what is a good price and if it's worth the effort. It's located RI, so it means 2-3 hours to drive down there to look at it, 2-3 back. The problem is getting it back if I were to buy it. I don't know what tow rates are but I image that would cost a lot. Junkyard is offering me $650 for a complete engine drop...I have to go down and look the engine over still. So the question is…

I have (my company has) this one client who is turning out to be a real ass hole. (I wrote about this once before). Unfortunately, I service his current project. I have never had a client I didn't like before (well, actually there was one). I figured it out. This guy, an exec "of sorts" at a construction company, thinks architects are necessary evils. (I'd like to see him get the degree and then the license). He is obviously some ex-jock who got into construction management - he may have a college education in construction, but, regardless, he is a little too classless. Since he probably lacks the technical skills, he has to use his over-the-top aggressiveness to g…

A conversation with a fellow Monte Carlo enthusiast prompted this query. Ruffling feathers is NOT the intent ... just kinda curious if others have noticed this, too.... We were talking about how some events are well attended ... and others aren't. It seems that the well-attended ones are those that offer some type of trophy/award/reward for participation; the ones not-so-much-attended are the gatherings/drives/spur-of-the-moment plans that are "just for fun", with no awards/plaques/etc. Yet, many times, we hear/read people note that the gatherings really ARE about the people, the friendships, etc. ... the awards are secondary. Sssooo, if this IS the case, why is it s…

I was talking to a guy the other day about a Caprice wagon and the SPID sticker said 1A2. The 1A2 RPO code was the special service code for fleet/police vehicles. However, this wagon was used for police service in Canada and was 1 of 8 imported that year. Only 70 were made for total production. The car still has the ticket reading light and everything but this was an unmarked car in its day. I am looking at this car for a friend who wants a sleeper car as his driver. Does anybody know what kind of fuel mileage it would get? 3rd seats are deleted, no speed limiter, still has the police spotlights and SEO wheels and center caps? The car is in decent shape with some rust but…

It's an idea I'm considering (as are my parents) My dad has a 2003 base Venture, which is in pretty good shape (about 50k on it) My mom plans on getting an Arcadia this spring, and my dad plans on taking the her Astro, due to the fact he just not happy with his Venture. We talk about all kinds of meaningless crap in The Lounge - why not this? Everytime that the douche bag cleaning people come into our office and put in new toilet paper rolls, they place them so they dispense/roll from the bottom. It bugs the hell out of me, especially at a critical time. At home, the roll dispenses from the top. Virtually any household I've ever been to has the toilet paper dispense from the top of the roll. Does this irk you as well?

Yes, my furry idiot has blue feet. I have no idea how this happened, and I'm not sure I want to know. I had just gotten back from picking up some food with the wagon (Arkus went along for the ride), when I let him out of the car and took my dinner inside. Zora wanted to eat so I let Arkus stay outside for a few minutes. Big mistake. He went through the invisible fence and was gone. Spent an hour looking, only to get a call from the cops that a neighbor had him. So I went and picked him up ( and got another annoying lecture from another annoying do-gooder). When I let him into the house I looked down and saw that his feet looked odd. In better light, I could see…

Apparently enough so that a woman would give her baby up for the downpayment... Clicky "Pueblo, Colorado police arrested three people on charges of using a 5-month-old baby as a down payment on a car – not even a new car, but a used Dodge Intrepid. A young woman apparently tried to get a car and some cash and only had the baby to offer in exchange. Allegedly, Nicole Uribe gave the baby to Jose-Juan Lerma and his wife, Irene, for the down payment on the car. She also would have received an unspecified amount of cash, in addition to the car. The baby is now in a foster home, while the three suspects sit in a Pueblo jail with bail set at $50,000 each. After being tipped to …

For xmas I got a DMH electric cutout. It just got here yesterday and I wired it up that night. Then this morning I went and had the cutout welded in. It sounds like open headers! Definitely the best bang for the buck I have spent on my car! Here is the electric cutout... Here are some pics of the install... Installed and all wired up... Here are some videos of the cutout working and me having some fun... (my camera is really crappy!) http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e145/sch...nt=HPIM0679.flv http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e145/sch...=HPIM0689-2.flv

I thought as a point of interest I would post something about the impending subway series in NY. I was born just a bit outside of Queens and have been, for my entire life, a huge Mets fan. Such a huge Mets fan that at the age of 20 I have became a season ticket holder at the begging of this season (with much hard earned cash bartending as my second job.) Even though I've probably been to about 60 Mets games prior to this year I have never been able to get my hands on subway series tickets at a resonable price, or at least not at a price I could afford to pay because I would likely have payed an unresonable price just to go. So as long as it doesn't get rained out…

This a very interesting Buick concept from the past. In a way it's an early Avalanche/Escalade EXT. The 1954 Buick Landau concept was way ahead of it's time:

There could be a whole bit of research on this topic that would be strictly region-based; however, in our area, this holiday used to be embraced by every house in the neighborhood. Now, I took my own kids in the buggy for their first candy-beggar experience, only to be left feeling like somebody stole the baby-Jesus from the local nativity scene and asking, "What the hell is wrong with people these days?" When I was a kid, a small army of us would trek a 5 mile loop before we'd get home, unload our loot, then have my parents drop us off another 10 miles away in another community so we could circle their area. Every single house had some great spirit with their decorati…

OK, there's an awesome new vehicle that you've just gotta have, but there's one problem. The color you've seen (and love) on other cars isn't available on your model... bah. Name your vehicle and the color you wish it came in. For example, I'd love to see a Colorado shortbed regular cab ZQ8 in monochrome Laser Blue with Ebony leather and machined or polished factory rims, and a Colorado Z71 4X4 in that cool new pearl brown color that's on the LaCrosse and '06 Impala and Monte with tan interior, body color flares, and machined finished factory rims. I'd also like to see a nice pale yellow return, like the beautiful Butternut Ye…

Twice I worked my tail off to get a posting ready, and twice CL gave me this "your listing is too large" without a way to go back and edit! Jerk-offs! I'm guessing that the pics did it, but who knows? Ticks me off when my time is wasted like that.

Hi Kids, I'm trying to hone in my photoshop skills with various different effects. I've been running across a bunch of various logos with unique special effects (like gloss, textures, etc) and essentially recreating/modifying them. I decided I wanted to try my hand at creating a metallic look (like those used on Automotive badges) and two hours later, I finished my modified version of the Saturn logo (I decided I wanted to see what it would look like as a circle). There are a few physical design errors (like the angle of the "rings"), but what I need to see is if it looks metallic to someone who hasn't been working on it. Thanks a bunch! -JC :-)

Looking for some verified, SPECIFIC dates: When was Saturn announced ? I have a clipping of then-POTUS Reagan driving a GM concept that looks like a red banana, it's captioned as a "Saturn concept", but it's wearing a Bowtie. It bears resmblence to & came after the Chevy Aero 2000, but has an enormous rear overhang: and I seem to remember this 'red banana' being called the "Citation IV" at one point. Could not find an online pic. This pic is from Time, 06-17-85. Have another clipping, undated, that says 'Saturn was announced Thursday', and by the back side- it points to Nov (reports of Oct car sales), I assume this is '85 again. Also, when was Saturn in…

I was walking to class at 9:50 this morning when this little pug dog with a collar ran by me. On my right side was the Memorial Union building, and on the left across the street was a slope down to Lake LaVerne. The lake was mostly ice covered, but there were sections where the ice had melted. I kept walking but had a bad feeling in my gut because once the dog disappeared beyond the crest of the hill, I didn't see him pop out again further up by the sidewalk. I backtracked across the street and saw a little object splashing in the water about 10 feet from the shore. It was the little dog. So I start hurrying over there to the shore. I get out my phone to try to ca…

My friend is looking to replace his '99 Monte Carlo with something newer since he is graduated and has a full-time job. He mentioned that he's looking for something with four doors, compact to midsize, 2-3 years old (or new if he can afford it), and fairly fuel efficient. He said he has looked at the Focus, Sentra, Mazda 3, and some others. I mentioned the Fusion, Malibu, G6, Cobalt, Astra, and Aura. He's never really liked Dodge so I didn't mention the Caliber or Avenger. He said he's not interested in Toyota or Honda offerings...he doesn't like the look of the new Toyotas and same with the Honda Civic. I think Impala, Five Hundred/Taurus, etc. are bigger than what…

I was adding up all my expenses for 2006 today.....I spent $4994.22 on gas this year! June alone was $785.67. The spy business really racks up the miles. Ah well, it's all a great big tax write off for me.

surprises you? I got to ride in a 96 Park Ave....and loved it! I'm not usually into "boats"...but there is something about it I just love... It was loaded, even with a moonroof.... If I could find a 93-98 with lower miles in could shape, I think the wagon would be gone in a second.... Has there been a car just surprised you? (good or bad)

I have a newer Ford Ranger, with the stock steel wheels. A friend of mine just pulled off new five spoke aluminum wheels, off his new Jeep Wrangler. I can get the wheels/tires cheap. Thing is, do you think Jeep wheels would look stupid on my truck? Would you take them?

Why is everybody ending their sentences with this phrase?? I've heard it three times today from three different people and it's getting to the point where it's just downright annoying. Was it on some movie or TV show that I missed? I hadn't heard anyone use it until about a month and a half ago, and now it's infested itself into the campus lingo like a virus. Here's some examples of its usage: Amanda: "Yeah, I took my physics test today and did pretty bad...I'm not gonna lie." Bob: "Yeah, this dining food sucks today...I'm not gonna lie." Why?

Who ever has dreamed about going to Europe, at the fraction of the price, do what I did, go to the French-owned island of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, right off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland...
