1994 Caddy Fleetwood sedan (not a Brougham). For sale locally. I have admired this car for the past two years, as I've seen it parked at ACME several times and just driving around town. Problem is that finances aren't supporting this purchase, neither is the wife. Caddycruiser has been a big help so far with answering questions for me - thanks bud! Pray for me that I hit the lottery this week... I'll go and play today! In the meantime, if anyone wants to donate to my "cure this disease" fund, I'll be happy to take your money! :AH-HA_wink:

How to destroy a 2003 Pontiac Vibe's Transmission in under 40,000 miles. Since its cold enough to freeze hell outside i decided to get the oil change at the dealer since i had a discount thing in the mail. Before i go I check every thing under the hood so i know if they are lying. I get to the Trans fluid pull the dip stick up its pure black and gritty with shinny metal flanks. "Oh $h!." Its still drivable some how. I ask them to check into it and 1,2 are toast and a couple of over gizmo's are toast. Also i have a Valve Ticking now from cylinder #4. I will get the estimate tomorrow. I guess driving it like you stole doesn't work in modern Econo car…

Okay, so like, I was really bored last night (and the BF was watching his Brazilian soaps on the big TV - yechhh. If you think American soaps are bad, try watching them on Globo - well, okay, the hotties are hotter on those shows, but anyway, I digress.) So, I am in the den, puttering around on the computer and switch to YouTube. After laughing my ass off at the Sarah Pollin skit on SNL, I hunt for old car commercials and take in a dozen or so old Chrysler commercials ("Your Next Car...,") etc, then I see all these videos posted of different folks showing off their old beasties. Ah, a cornacopia of old cars in action. When what to my horrified eyes should appe…

Well... here are two cars that are sitting in the woods behind my uncle's camp. The first is a 3rd gen Monte Carlo. The second is an 80's Impala. Ah... what wonders the woods can behold. :P The weeds have grown alot since I was around it last... so it kind of hides it. Anyways, the basics... The front clip and the front wheels are missing. The engine is there, but not completely and it's just sitting in it. The radiator is lying on the ground beside it. Inside the steering wheel is gone and the door panels (or part of them..) are lying in the back seat. The front windshield is... there, but damaged. The rear windshield is broken out as with the door windows…

I was giving this some thought as I periodically talk to or visit long time friends over the years...some of which I have seen this summer. Do you think most people change? I would say that, while they can, and some should, they don't. Essentially, all of my friends have the same personalities as when I first met them. Yeah, they've grown up, so they may look different over time. And, while they may have a different attitude or are more self-assured (that comes with time), they still have the same basic motivations and personal interaction style. My friend Bob in S.D. still acts much the same way as he did in college. It's just that, being in the business world a…

The Thanksgiving holiday is but a few days away. Our family has been asked over for dinner by some friends from California, also living out of state, but in a city about 45 miles away. The obligatory shopping and doing of chores will take place on Friday and Saturday, and maybe there will be some time to drive around some quiet scenery to relax and get away. Hope everyone will have a nice Thanksgiving.

I can't take it anymore. I have to get a new computer and I need it soon. This POS desktop of mine is hinging on my last nerve: the slowness, the loudness, the slowness, the ancient (by today's standards) monitor, the slowness, the fact that if I so much as touch the tower, the computer will inexplicably black out and require a hard reset (I'm not kidding) and did I mention the slowness? Then there's the laptop with a dead keyboard, dead touchpad, several dead LEDs, and a line of dead pixels in the corner of the screen. Plus, it's thick and heavy as hell, the battery life sucks (which wouldn't be that much of an issue if the AC jack worked properly...which it doesn't) a…

So I was out walking this morning, and part of my route is along a road that's outside of my development. I was amazed at the amount of trash people just throw out their car windows... like it's the middle ages or something. A big potato chip bag with half the chips strewn everywhere, coffee and soda cups and bottles, an orange condom, (used, ew) etc. etc... what are people thinking? How can people be so damn TRASHY? I sincerely hope everyone here takes their trash home and sticks it in the wastebasket.

Not that I'm ready to be in the market for a new truck right now, but two Sundays ago the wife and I went to a GMC dealership so I could look at some of the new 2014 Sierras they had. While I was driving around the lot soaking up the new '14s, my wife was more impressed with the 2013 2500HD Sierra crew cab models. Not that I need the capabilities of a 3/4 ton truck (nor really the 1/2 ton either), but I've always admired this generation of 2500HD/3500HD Sierra. I am more impressed with the ride & interior of the new 2014 models, but can you provide me with reasons/opinions on why I shouldn't consider a 2500HD? For $hits and giggles, here are two I've looked at onl…

Empty Promises: What Mind-Blowing Automotive Technologies Didn't You Get? By black-knight (Editor/Reporter) for Cheers and Gears.com 23rd December, 2010 It goes without saying that since the automobile became a way of life (in whatever degree of capacity it is depending on the person), automakers have always chosen to make the sky the limit on what technologies the car of tomorrow (read: concept car) should have and, more often than not, they also throw in a promise that those nifty futuristic features will come optional or standard on a brand new car at your local Hometown dealer within your lifetime. The hype is huge and, inevitably, you begin to look forward …

Border security isn't the problem Washington Post The notion that the first thing to do is "secure the border" between the United States and Mexico -- and only then worry about comprehensive immigration reform -- falls somewhere between hopeful fantasy and cynical cop-out. It's a good sound bite but would be a ridiculous policy. Fact-based analysis is increasingly out of fashion, however, and so the border-first hallucination has become popular among politicians and pundits reacting to Arizona's new "breathing while Latino" law. The measure, which has sparked angry protests nationwide, orders police to act on "reasonable suspicion" in identifying, arresting and jailin…

Just picked up a '84 Indy Fiero tonight... guy said it ran and shifted perfect and was reliable. Halfway home I go to stop and take off and can't get it into any gears unless I shut off the car. Let's just say it was a tough slow drive the rest of the way back. Of course the guy won't answer his phone now. Test drive apparently wasn't long enough to find the problem. Anyway, I'm assuming that would be the slave clyinder?? I just bought the car to put miles on and save the miles on my Avalanche, well, this left a bad taste in my mouth and Fiero is going right up on ebay, whatever it sells for is what it sells for, no reserve. I used to do this more often, but still do it every now and then. It's peaceful, though you can't inside the vehicle. Oftentimes, I don't want to drive it, anyway. I can always rent the cars I like. I thought about asking my C&G friends what they thought of this, after visiting a nearby auto mall last night. Actually, it's one of the larger ones and is arranged around a "ring road." If you enter late at night, there is a security booth and he appears to jot down license plate numbers as you drive in and out. Makes sense, I guess. Guys, Although I love Civil Engineering, I cannot see myself doing it for the rest of my life. Not that I do not like it, it just makes me feel I am being too specific. I am planning to move into Management Consulting. My current firm is a Civil Consulting firm, so the rigors of Consulting are not unfamiliar to me. The reasons for going into Management Consulting are: 1. I want to get experience in a variety of fields and management consultants "advice" people in different industries. 2. I love to travel and do not mind the hectic life of moving from one tent to another while working in the process. 3. One thing that really drove me to it was McKinsey's foray in…

July 22, 2008 Modern Classics: Pontiac Fiero, 1984-1988 http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jb2...ntiac-fiero.htm Pontiac Fieros. By Jeff Burry Pontiac Fiero, 1984-1988 Mid-engine sports cars are not generally associated with General Motors. People are more likely to associate them with exotic carmakers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. However, the Pontiac division of General Motors produced such a car in the mid-1980s. The car was badged Pontiac Fiero, Italian for "proud." Conceived by John Delorean, and designed by Hulki Aldikacti, the car's chief design engineer, the Fiero was a two-seater, mid-engine sports car built for the masses. It was Ald…

So after wanting a good digital camera for the last three years, I (we) finally got one for Christmas. Jessica and I got it as a gift from my brother and my mother. It's a Canon SX10 IS. Funny thing is it's the same one BV recently got, and even funnier is that it he bought his from the same place this came from: newegg. I love taking pictures, so this is quite awesome. For now I'm just playing with the settings and taking test photos, but what a difference compared to the Kodak. So naturally I've taken one or two.

As soon as we finally get a car for Julie with our tax refund & I sell the Suburban I am SO getting that '61 Buick I've been obsessing over. Here's a great ad from the fall of 1960 that explaines EXACTLY how I feel about these cars: http://www.legendarygmmagazine.com/free/buick/61buickspe.php "The Special Size Buick Special: the Best of both Worlds." In other words: great MPGs without having to settle for a common "econobox". Notice the ad in question sits next to an ad for the 1959 Buicks... it's meant to be.

And, while I was watching a couple episodes from Season 2, I noticed this "glaring" peculiarity (among others, of course).... In Episode 14, "The Runaway" (originally aired 01/11/1980), Daisy's yellow car dives over a cliff and explodes after the accelerator gets stuck while Bo and Luke are in it. That same episode, Daisy is given "Dixie", her Jeep, by the father of the runaway gal. Skip ahead 4 episodes to Episode 18, "F…

Jamie LaReau Automotive News December 24, 2007 - 12:01 am ET DETROIT — General Motors plans to chop pickup production in January, but it may be too late to avoid a fire sale. As of Dec. 1, inventories of the Chevrolet Silverado (153 days supply) and GMC Sierra (150 days) were bloated despite $5,000 rebates on 2007 models. The market for full-sized pickups has been soft since the housing industry went bust. But inventories of rival brands Ford, Dodge, Toyota and Nissan are closer to the industry norm of 60 days. As of Dec. 1, Chevrolet had 233,800 unsold Silverados, which is not a huge increase over its inventory of 219,600 units a month earlier. So what went…

This morning started off as just about any other Sunday morning in my house. I slept in until about 11:15 AM, mom and my cousin were off at church, dad was busy out in the garage, my brother was in the kitchen eating breakfast. I did my usual morning tasks (eat, brush teeth, pop my contacts in), when I decided to play some Game & Watch on my Game Boy. I’m sitting on the couch in the living room, when my dad tells me he’s going up to Home Depot for some stuff to fix our chimney with. I see him standing outside, with the driver’s door to the Sonoma open, and it looks like he’s going through something. A minute later, he knocks on the front door (it was locked), and tell…

Right now? In class. Well, I've been around a bit, just under the radar I guess. Remember that thread I posted a month or two ago about my grandfather being in the hospital? Well he passed away a half hour into April 28th. Prior to that time, I had been driving about an hour to the hospital and back about two or three times a week to both see him and support the family who took the loss pretty hard. Then I missed an entire week of school last week (sans Tuesday) to be with the family and go to my grandpa's viewings and funeral. Now I'm finally back at school and catching up on the stuff I've missed. Speaking of school, I'm at the end of the fifth week of this semester…

The sun has unleashed a blast in Earth's direction, and that should cause brighter-than-normal auroral displays this weekend. Skywatchers won't be the only ones monitoring the storm: The folks in charge of power grids and orbiting satellites will also be on guard to make sure the disturbance in the (geomagnetic) force won't be disruptive. Word of today's blast, technically known as a coronal mass ejection or CME, comes via SpaceWeather.com's Tony Phillips. NASA says the outburst sparked an M3.2-class solar flare, as well as a stream of electrically charged particles that is due to interact with Earth's magnetic field on Saturday. ATLANTA - Investigators are looking into who altered pro wrestler Chris Benoit’s Wikipedia entry to mention his wife’s death hours before authorities discovered the bodies of the couple and their 7-year-old son. Benoit’s Wikipedia entry was altered early Monday to say that the wrestler had missed a match two days earlier because of his wife’s death. A Wikipedia official, Cary Bass, said Thursday that the entry was made by someone using an Internet protocol address registered in Stamford, Conn., where World Wrestling Entertainment is based. It was the BOP-APALOOZA (Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac) show held at the Atco Raceway in Atco, NJ last Saturday, November 5. Prior years this was a Pontiac-only show, this year it was opened to Buick and Oldsmobiles (however, a majority of the cars in the show were Pontiacs with an almost even split between BOP on the drag strip). Well boyz I'm off to Detroit tomorrow, I have something on my plate the rest of this week and next. Also NAIAS is almost here too. Where did the year go, it just seems like yesterday that we were looking at the stunning Cadillac CTS at last year's NAIAS. Oh well, 3 weeks in Detroit, I wonder how much havoc I can create there? My whereabouts after that are anyone's guess. I will try to check in from time to time and give y'all some Börger Lovin! :AH-HA_wink:

I haven't been driving the thing for over 2 years anyway, but it's still upsetting. Apparently the alternator did something wrong while the car was in my sister's possession and it started a fire. This is what the engine compartment looks like now... The worst part? I'll probably never own or even get to drive an Oldsmobile again. :( 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva SL Sedan... 1996 - 2005

I love the Banana Boat... so very glad to have it back. Still, I'm a car whore. Monogamy is soooo very hard. Currently I am considering a few cars to replace either the B-59 or the '77 CDV. Earlier today after XP gave me a heads up on a super cheap '76 Cadillac S&S Hearse with flame-thowers, flame paint job and in need of some TLC. I called very quickly (the car has been on Crainglist before) since the price had seemingly hit rock bottom. SOLD as of about 2 hrs. ago. Oh well. I've had this unsatable appetite for a REAL Pontiac, as in a classic Pontiac, something RWD, BOF & with one or more of the following: - Chrome Beak (metal twin-port…

Anyone else with me on this? You hear or say or read a word ... and it reminds you of something unrelated? Example: The word "argue" makes me hungry. Why? Because it reminds me of "barbecue". Since I'm not up on Hair Metal, I thought I'd try a variation on the theme of Walt's contest. This album cover featured a white mouse crawling out of a white egg on a white background. The band was what I would call extreme Prog. Anyone?

A couple months ago the fiance' got rear ended in her 2005 G500. Everybody was okay, that I know of. The rear-ender I think went to the ER but we never heard anything after. I don't believe it was anything serious. Anyway, it was enough to total her G500. For better or worse that thing is a tank. They were all sore the next few days, as with most any accident but for getting hit at about 40-50mph while standing still(they were waiting to turn left on a two-lane road) it held up almost as if it hadn't been smoked from behind. Well, she got an Outlander as a rental almost two weeks later. Their insurance company was being a huge pain in the @ss. Somewhat ironically, w…

I was walking down the street here in Rome today when I stopped dead in my tracks. Normally I pass Pontiac vans without batting an eye, but seeing a Pontiac is rare here and something else caught my eye...a Chevrolet badge. It was essentially a Pontiac Trans Sport with Chevy bowties on it, they didn't even change the grille. I decided that someone must have done it themselves, that there's no way GM would just slap some bowties on a Pontiac and call it a day...maybe it was imported over here and the badges were missing? But after doing a check online, sure enough...the Chevrolet Trans Sport exists.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: - Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm; - Life isn't always fair; - and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set i…

Just got back from Cedar Point (rollercoasters!) I just about died from laughter watching two guys run naked from Snake River Falls (water ride-you get real wet) I think some stole their clothes or something... Not something you see everyday (or really want to see, for that matter) It was funny though.....

So uh huh I was at the Saturn lot this afternoon, killing time checking out the Vue there (ha). They have a two-tiered lot. I parked on the upper level, checked out some vehicles, then went down to the lower level. After checking out an orange Vue Redline, I trudged back up top... only to discover my dad and his wife checking out the cars! I said "may I help you folks?" :AH-HA_wink: Stepmom likes the Impala SS and Trailblazer SS (so does dad), but they are too expensive. Of the Saturns, she'd rather have a Vue AWD, but dad is leaning toward an Aura (he likes the price of the XE and the fuel mileage ratings). I bet they get a Vue, ha. I was checking them out becau…

I was wondering if any of you guys could give me advice on a camera tripod. The one I have is old and well, a piece of crap. It's held together with J-B Weld, lacks the features I want, but worst of all, can't hold the camera steady. So here's my criteria: Durable, but fairly lightweight Must be able to tilt the camera 90 degrees and be able to pan up and down...at the very least. Detachable release plate. $50 is the limit...I can go a little over but I'd prefer not too...on a budget. Now, I'm gonna have to take a trip to the camera store and play with some to see how the features work...because I don't know exactly how a 90 vertical platform works...for example.…

I have not been around as much as I would like as of late, I have been busy. Working on landscaping the house with my son. We decided to do-it-ourselfs and got two new cars instead. We will end up saving a ton of money and a few hardware and landscaping centers have been very helpful to us. Anyways the project is wrapping up slowly. I have a few car things to take care off the 2001 was in a fender bender and needs a new front right head light and assembly along with some paint. I think I will go junkyard'n for it and go the spray paint route, (its not real bad). Also the Torrent has to go in to fix my rear wiper motor which died. For some reason... Never was right from t…

I was in Wally World picking up some supplies for my century ride this Saturday, and I came across this in the toy section: As much as I love the Solstice and hate to see it disgraced like this, I nearly busted a gut laughing so hard in the aisle. People passing by had to think I was insane.

So dropped by my fav. body shop to check on a truck our company owns, that is getting some mechanical work done. They were doing a cleanup on a car a customer had brought in...a Cadillac with a very dirty interior. Everyone thought the interior of the car was black....owner of the shop actually found a few pieces from a car with a black interior in a local yard... They start cleaning...car has a saddle/Tan leather interior..car is a Cadillac...after three hours of running a shop vac, an industrial strength steam cleaner, and dumping aquarium levels of water on the carpets, they are still pulling stuff out that looks like a chocolate milk shake.... They have a whole cr…

I wanted to know if a blank key or set of keys could be made by GM to look like stock Chevrolet keys? I want to trick my grandpa when he opens up his present into thinking he got a new Impala. My whole family is in on it if we can do it and we will tell him we leased it for him. It is cruel, I know, but he loves practical jokes. Can this be done?????

You guys have all been unwilling witnesses to my fruitless search for a decent plow truck, and distractions with more interesting stuff as I look for ways to get things rolling on my personal automotive front. Sorry about that if it transferred my frustration into yours! When is he going to freakin' buy something?!! Well, maybe not until I sell my daily driver Tahoe. I'm unlikely to find what I'm looking for within budget, so that means I have to find a way to increase the budget, and selling the Tahoe is probably the most effective move I can make on that front. Of course that means I have to push the wagon back into service for a while which I hadn't planned on. G…

So, the other night I drove my 98 Buick LeSabre (about 92,000 miles on the clock) about 23 miles home and the car was running perfectly. I pulled it into the drive way and parked it. Next morning it didn't start, turned over but no fire. So I call AAA and have them tow it to a close dealership within my free towing circle. I haven't exactly liked this dealership in the past since they broken the piece in the steering wheel that holds the horn wire in place and after going back in forth I gave up and ghetto fixed it with a q-tip. They are a Buick dealership, not that it matters but I just suspect they see similar cars so it's not a new car to them. Any way the tow guy sh…

Logitech MX Revolution. Got it for X-mas after wanting it for over a year. Yeah baby! I love thing thing for so many reasons. First, it's the most comfortable mouse I have ever used or held. It's ergonomics are superb and the build quality and materials used are very nice. It has rubber inserts for your thumb to rest, the primary buttons are a one piece design, and the other buttons are nicely finished. Then there's the scroller, which is quite amazing. It's made out of alloy and not plastic with rubber grip in the center. It features what Logitech calls SmartShift technology, where the mouse can switch between from normal scrolling to nearly frictionless scrol…
