Saw a Chevy Bolt for the first time today, a white one at an intersection..it had gear on the roof that looked like autonomous vehicle testing gear (spinny things like I saw on the Uber Fusion autonomous car I saw a couple months ago).

So I was playing basketball back in 2003, went up to the hoop, got hit, came down on my hand with my arm outstretched. Ouch. Urgent care doc diagnosed a minor rotator cuff tear, told me to rest it and take enough ibuprofin to keep me from feeling my thoughts. Didn't help, my doc diagnosed the same thing. Finally, after having some problems with it the last few weeks, I had it looked at again. Torn labrum (not torn labia as I inadvertently told my boss). Surgery is an option, dealing with it is also an option. Didn't even get any drugs. Stupid doctors.

Alright let's try something new. We start off with a picture. When you view the photo/drawing/whatever you post the first thing that comes to mind... So for instance if the last post was a picture of the Canadian Flag and you think "Bryan Adams" then type Bryan Adams and post a new picture. It can be related to the last photo or phraze but it does not have to be. Like you could post a Hockey Stick as it relates to the Canadian Flag but you could also post Ghandi just for the sheer randomness of it. I'll start us off: Scion Xb and now my pic for the next person:

You usually don't see them like this anymore: 1983 Buick Regal Like just about everyone else here, I have a soft spot for the G-body coupes of the 80s - especially the Cutlass and Regal. We owned a 1984 Cutlass Calais, a 1985 Cutlass Supreme, a 1981 Regal, and a 1986 GP. If I didn't live in salt-n-sand country I'd pick this thing up right now.

Son of a friend was given a nice clean older Bonneville SSE as a high school graduation gift. Only problem was the headliner was loose and he was told he would have to fix it. So the kid gets an air powered staple gun and staples the headliner back in place. ....And then gets out to notice what has happened to the roof of the car. At least his mother is footing the bill to fix the thing. Chris

I don't know WTF is going on but I have not gone a week in the past few months without having a really freeky and whacked out nightmare. Last night I found myslef in the elaborate Baroque Dinning room of a Serial Killer. He had one of those fancy James Bond style multi purpose canes and was telling me how I was going to meet a violent death. When he said something about hurting my family though I just snapped and somehow got in a mortal wound on him with a fancy knife that was carefully placed on the table in one of dozens of elaborate place settings. It seemed like there was a good three minutes of my dream (nightmare) where I ended up cutting his neck so badly wi…

Hey, if I recall, it was late summer when the BIG CRASH occurred. Never thought C&G would continue to exist. In the interim, I got involved in an evening program in graduate business. I took 6 semester credits (Investments and Estate/Gift Taxation). Both were ball busters, but got an A and a B, respectively (just checked today) while working 50 hours a week and running around to get my mom to finalize her estate plan (in another state, no less). Also, went to Argentina and Uruguay (where it's summer) during Thanksgiving week instead of going with my mom and brother to a condo in Bend, OR. That was a slam dunk. Where would you have gone? Duh. I just read an article where the PETA freaks and even Senator John Dufus Kerry want the NFL to suspend Michale VIck now. I mean, sure he probably was involved, and its horrific. But, should we at least f*cking wait until the courts determine if he is indeed guilty for sure, first? I'd like to see what kind of illegal $h! these hypocritical folks have in their closets that they want vick gone before its really proven exactly what he did. JOEY HARRINGTON!

So I was home for graduation parties like a week and a half ago. On Saturday night while I was out at a bonfire in the country, my pager went off. It was a medical call for a man that was choking ( at least that is what the dispatcher picked out of the cell phone call that was broken up) The dipatcher pretty much only knew where it was based off the GPS signal that the cell phone sent. So I hopped in the burban and took off, I was only about 3 miles away (luckily, considering that everyone else on the squad would have been in town which was 7 miles away). So I'm first on the scene. As I get there, I notice that it is not a man choking but rather a 10-11 year old boy…

To Blow or Not to Blow: Turbocharging vs. Natural Aspiration "Every new BMW on sale in the United States, save for the electric-drive i3, carries at least one turbocharger. Audi and Mercedes-Benz are nearly as turbo-centric. Even stalwarts of high-revving, naturally aspirated engines, such as Ferrari and Honda, are strapping snails to their engines. And on the home front, Ford has been pushing hard on its EcoBoost turbocharged engines for almost a decade now. If turbochargers haven’t won the war against natural aspiration yet, they certainly appear unstoppable in this, their most recent campaign for domination. Increasingly stringent fuel-economy and emissions r…

Has anyone else seen the original Vanishing Point. I just watched it last night and it was great. Good car chase as well. Motor Trend ruined the movie for me though. They explained the 2 bulldozers so I knew the meaning in the first part of the movie. The car that was crashed into the bulldozers was actually a 67 Camaro. Motor Trend explained it because you can see the upside down Camaro badge when the townspeople are examining the wreckage. I didn't see the badge but I saw the body and windowline and I knew it was a Camaro. This was a good car chase movie. Anyone else seen it or seen any other good car chase movies? My favourite car chase is in Bulitt.

Say you're out somewhere. There's this attractive person that you notice, and they seem to notice you. And you end up looking over at each other waaay too many times. The grocery store is a bad place for this to happen, because you get to the end of the aisle, turn to go down the next... and there they are. What makes it even more complicated is, they, or you, are with someone. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

They will be filming a mainstream movie similar to Friday Night Lights or Hoosiers (the Indiana basketball movie from the 1980's). The movie will be set in a fictional High School in the Los Angeles area which has a wide variety of races, income levels, and social problems. The movie will be set in late 2016-early 2017. You are being asked to provide 6 things here....5 vehicles, one vehicle color. Vehicles will be needed for the following 5 characters; Hank-African American, successful, 48, the father of students on the team.....he works as a booster and freq…

Do any of you know if there is a non-textbook type of book that shows the complete process of a car's development from beginning to end? I mean everything, the complete dirt. Timelines, how they put together things like the brochures, the owner's manual, the repair manual, advertising, what's the process of having parts etc ready at the dealerships, training, how they get parts suppliers involved and on and on.....I've always wanted to know all the nitty gritty behind the scenes stuff. Ha ha, maybe I am talking about a textbook!

This is my 'Save The Buick' jar. All the money I've put toward my '59 to date (and it's a lot) has been side money, or non paycheck money.... except for dimes. 2nd largest coin denomination (who regularly sees half- or whole dollar coins?), and not as 'in demand' around here as quarters. BOSTON -- A new proposed bill designed to combat the threat of the H1N1 virus would allow the state to forcefully quarantine people in the event of a pandemic. Anyone who refuses to comply with the quarantine order could face jail time or a $1000 per day fine. The "Pandemic Response Bill" would also force health providers to vaccinate people, authorize forcible entry into private homes, and impose fines or prison sentences on anyone not complying with isolation or quarantine orders. Federal health officials are also warning of a possible new outbreak of the H1N1 virus, commonly known as the "swine flu." Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said people shou…

Got a good look at it...much better fit and finish than what I'm seeing from HONDA or Toyota...and not a terrible looking car, although it's no Camaro or GTI or C30 Volvo or anything... Once upon a time the United States made things. We harnessed the energy of coal and the power of mighty rivers to run factories. Steam engines spun and generators hummed and we used the electricity to smelt iron and aluminum, to light homes and shops, and to power chemical plants and mills. Cities sprang up. Cities with names like Cleveland and Chicago, Detroit and Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Newark. In these cities the iron was made into I-beams and thumbtacks and Buicks, and the chemical plants turned out dyes and plastics and penicillin. The wheels of industry turned. Cities grew. AMERICA PROSPERED. We made everything from a pocket watch to a battleship, and we were prou…

This past week, I found myself in "defensive driving" situations ... one worked out very well, the other almost ended not so well.... The first, the one that almost ended up badly, happened en route to work. I was on a 4-lane road in Schaumburg in the right-hand lane, which was full of cars waiting to turn right (myself included). We were moving, but not at the speed limit. I noticed that the car behind me darted into the left-hand lane, but thought nothing of it, because I thought the driver was going to be turning left at the upcoming intersection. I was wrong. Instead, the driver apparently realized I was going slow because of the line in front of me. Before I …

Stern has realized the new wave of broadcasting is Satellite Radio. Much like the new wave in media is the 'web. I can't wait to see what this brings over the next two years!

For me it was the story from years ago that a highschool friend's dad told as to why he bought an AMC Alliance. Apparently he had a bad habit of (once) locking his keys in the car. So the next car he bought (the AMC) had to be one that you could not lock from the inside and could only be locked by using the key in the door from the outside. The Alliance was the only car he found that did that, so that is what he bought. The family also had an AMC Concord hatch. They finally wised up and traded both for Impalas.

I'm getting pretty damned old so my car jones has been acting up a lot more lately. I started a list of cars I'd like to have before it's too late. You'll notice my choices ain't particularly exotic or even necessarily pricey. I've never been a fan of the hoity-toity, high-priced machinery that only the execs of fortune 500 companies can afford...anyway, here's my first crack at the bucket list. Laugh if you want. In no particular order: 1956-’57 Corvette (doesn’t need to be FI or even dual quad; these were simply gorgeous cars) 1956 Plymouth Fury ('nuff said) 1956 Mercury Montclair (had the looks, performance & handling of its “Mexican Road Race” Lincoln cousins…

Company paid for it so I took the opportunity to come down to LA and get some continuing education credits at the AIA (read "geek") convention. SENSORY OVERLOAD..not the convention but LA, rather. The convention is at the Convention Center downtown. All of the hotel prices were high in the immediate area, so I stayed in El Segundo (by LAX) where you can take 2 subway/light rail cars (Green Line to Blue Line) and get to downtown for a pittance. This is the first time I have ever been in South Central! An eye opening experience. All the houses have bars on windows. Also, this historically African American area is almost fully Hispanic at this point judging from th…

Browsing on PSP or BeOS? IE 2.0?! Netscape 3.0?! Firefox 0.9 and 1.5??? There is also someone who apparently is fairly regular, 2% of all hits, surfing on Windows 3.1. More common than all the linux hits combined.

[source: Wall Street Journal] Climate Bill Passes Key Procedural Hurdle in House Democrats Still May Not Have Votes for Final Passage By IAN TALLEY and SIOBHAN HUGHES WASHINGTON -- A landmark climate bill narrowly passed a key procedural hurdle in the House Friday, a sign that leadership may just barely have enough votes for final passage later in the day. Republicans said the bill included the largest tax increase in American history. It passed by a vote of 217-205. To ensure final passage, the bill needs 218 votes. Passage of the controversial bill will hand Democrats and President Barack Obama a major vic…

video I just find this funny. I guess diesel would make for a good drifter - you don't have to rev it as high. I can't imagine it's too easy to drift with four back wheels though.

Chinese Police Get In Hot Water With Mercedes ML Police Car William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com July 10, 2011 In the your not fooling anyone file, a police department in Fangchenggang (part of Guangxi Province)bought a new Mercedes Benz ML350 SUV to be used a police car. The police department spent about 900,000 yuan ($139,000 USD)to get it into their fleet. To fool the citizens of Fangchenggang, the department decided to rebadge the ML350 into a Honda CR-V which only costs about 200,000 yuan ($30,000 or so). The plan was foolproof or so they thought. The citizens of Fengchenggang were not impressed with the rebadge job and ridiculed the …

While I don't agree with, I at least get your stance on FWD, Transverse engines, B-pillars and manual transmissions..... the one I don't get is your aversion to uni-body. There were a few uni-body cars that I'm sure would suit all the rest of your requirements quite nicely.... so I'm curious if your hatred of uni-body would be directed at them as well. I could totally see you pulling one of these out of a barn somewhere to use as a daily driver, yet they're all unibody.

A human foot was discovered partially submerged in the water near Westham Island in Ladner, B.C., Delta police said Monday. It's the fifth human foot police have found in the province in less than a year. "As far as it being linked to other partial remains found, we haven't dismissed that. We're considering all possibilities," Const. Sharlene Brooks told CBC News. A couple out for a walk in the 2800 block of Savage Road spotted a shoe floating in the water around 10:30 a.m. and called police, she said. Investigators said it's a left foot. "Right now we're working very closely with the B.C. coroners service to identity the person whose remains we have recovered," B…

So, a friend of mine asked me who I voted for. I told them McCain. They asked why. I responded "Because he is white." Is it wrong to vote for McCain because he is white? Consider the following; 1) By voting for McCain strictly based on race, I am subscribing to a VERY BASIC human quality of electing or hiring someone that is LIKE ME. We do this because it makes us feel safe. You can see a very good example of this in corporate america. It's dominated by white, homogenous, conservative men. All of you have probably interviewed for a job. Did you conform to the culture of the employer? When I go to a job, am I going to be clean shaven and wear a business suit or am…

Maybe someone can explain this to me. How is a car that isn't suppose to be on sale until early 2008 being sold USED by a private owner in Lexington, Kentucky? Excuse the image quality, they were taken with my wife's 2MP camera phone, didn't have our Kodak with us. Anyone care to guess where this came from?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4796264.stm Long story short: the gas pedal gets stuck, the car acelerates to 135mph, driver fries the brakes trying to stop, and the "gears were jammed", preventing him from shifting into neutral. Yeah. Right. Once they check out the car (a 3-series BMW BTW)and find there was nothing wrong, he's got some 'splaining to do.
