In owning the car a week now, I've made some observations 1) 1st Tank of Gas - 26MPG (545Km) 2) Electric Steering not ideal but suited better to the Deltas than Epsilons 3) Battery in the Trunk - Strange 4) Engine- More Muffled than the Cavalier 5) Torque Delivery a more anemic 6) Brakes are weak in comparison to the Cavalier 7) Yes, A lot of hard plastic but at 27K Miles, it doesn't rattle 8 ) Gauge Cluster... Strange to have to look to the far left for the Speedo and have the Tach my line of sight 9) Interior Build Quality better than Malibu Maxx, almost on par with Impala 10) Closing the door from the inside sounds/feels more tinny than the Epsilons…

* The English language is a curious thing. Everyday phrases, when written out, are redundant: "PIN number" ... as in "Personal Identification Number Number" "ATM machine" ... as in "Automated Teller Machine Machine" "VIN number" ... as in "Vehicle Identification Number Number" "HAZ-MAT material" ... as in "Hazardous Material Material" "UPC code" ... as in "Universal Product Code Code" "Hot water heater" ... so, you heat hot water? "free gift" ... thought all "gifts" were "free? Apparently not! Interesting sentences: "A calendar's days are numbered." "A committee is a group that keeps minutes & loses hours." "When a clock is hungry it goes back for second…

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/internation...1577753,00.html From the Guardian, a serious UK news site - I can't believe this is a serious news article!! Armed and dangerous - Flipper the firing dolphin let loose by Katrina by Mark Townsend Houston Sunday September 25, 2005 The Observer It may be the oddest tale to emerge from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Armed dolphins, trained by the US military to shoot terrorists and pinpoint spies underwater, may be missing in the Gulf of Mexico. Experts who have studied the US navy's cetacean training exercises claim the 36 mammals could be carrying 'toxic dart' guns. Divers and su…

S&P Breaches Low, Triggering Selling Wave Jeff Cox | 13 Nov 2008 | 01:08 PM ET http://www.cnbc.com/id/27697872/site/14081...C&par=yahoo Hmm. My own age-contemporaries are mostly in charge now. I hope that they're up to the task. It's all starting to resemble "The Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. There ought to be klaxons sounding in some distant station somewhere.

Do you work well under pressure? For a class tonight, I had to turn in a paper in the 7 to 10 page range. This is a more conceptual management class, so it had no numbers. (I like the objective ones better, actually). Last night at about 11 pm, I started a scratch outline. This morning at 6 am, I had no paper in process. It was due at 5:30 pm. I kicked into overdrive at about 2 pm, and walked in at 5:35 pm. It's all adult-type working students, so it didn't matter. I made it. I always get through, but I hate it. The eating at a diner and writing and all that stress to make a deadline. I always plan out "boxes of time" in advance but don't stick to them. …

What Car is a Definite Home(r) Run? Monday, 11th October, 2010 by "black-knight" I'm sure that if you're an average American you've probably watched Fox's long-running animated sitcom "The Simpsons" at one point in your lifetime. I'm also sure that if you're an average American who likes cars that's watched that aforementioned TV show, you know about The Homer, the car protagonist Homer Simpson designed himself for his half-brother's (Herb Powell) domestic automobile manufacturer, Powell Motors. Okay, well, if you didn't before now, now you do and you can see that hunk of fictional American metal in the header above. Now, there's an old saying that goes, "Life i…

Hi all, I had thorghly enjoyed my ownership experience with my Malibu SS over the last year. Then my brother Got a Mustang and my folks got an Aura and I feel like I have the bland car of the family. The aura destorys the malibu in every way, sick powertrain blows away the 3900 4 speed combo, better styling and features for the price. My brothers Mutang has a deffinet cool factor and the RWD is great though the 4.0 V6 in it is pretty crappy and it has a solid axel and is a ford. So I was thinking what I would do to replace the malibu if I did take the plunge and this is the scheme I came up with IF I decided to get a new car. I decided the only way to …

I know what you're all thinking; "What happened to my Jalopnik??" Don't worry, we're not a fully engaged Planelopnik just yet, but we had to show you this newest iteration of the F-15. It's a Jalopnik-esque story of a beat up and forgotten platform, that's been revamped and re-engineered to compete with the newest bad boys on the scene, the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Boeing is marketing the new F-15 Silent Eagle for the international set that want to get into the modern jet age, but don't have access to our newest, greatest ninja toys. The customers that Boeing has aimed its sights at are Israel, Japan, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and South Korea, which are …

Yep...happened again...same car too. So we've had the Prizm back for about 2 weeks now, I've been meaning to post about it but haven't got any good pics to show yet so I haven't done so. Anyway, I was working yesterday, coming back from my first delivery, I pulled onto the street beside work and parked on the side. There was a red Silverado in front of me and some other car in front of him. I backed up a bit to give him some extra room to pull out, so he had 5 feet or so plus the space between him and the other car. I lock up and start to walk to the shop. I notice he backing up and for some reason I felt compelled to watch...only to find the f@#king retard backing into …

Okay, guys. Start making a list of what you think the one or two top vehicles per brand will be (or are) that will bring each brand back into the spotlight for GM, as a whole, to prosper like it once did. I'll start: Buick: A Zeta sedan.. Right now, nothing's happening at Buick except talk. The Enclave might draw its own crowd, too, but it might not get enough talk. Cadillac: A&S v1 did it essentially, but the '08 CTS will really get them going Chevrolet: Camaro and Impala. Two pre-existing vehicles on a brand new platform with much better quality, design, and technology. Chevy Trucks/GMC: The Avalanche and rest of the 900 fleet look amazing; this'll do it. Give t…

My wife's car (99 Pontiac Grand Am GT with 67000miles) has been enjoyable, but troublesome. Recently her 7th power window lifter failed. My wife decided to complain to GM customer service about this car. I told her that she was nuts. Manufacturers give warranties to limit there liability/responsibility. Not too surprisingly they were polite to her. I figured a sympathetic ear was all she would get. The young lady on the phone started gathering information!! She contacted the independent garage where we had the last two windows replaced. Then she moved on to the servicing dealer gathering more documentation. At each step she would call my wife and assure her that …

The latest addition to Jay Leno’s incredible collection of automobiles is one of BMW’s hydrogen-powered 7-series sedans. Mr. Leno is well-known for his love of cars and follows in the footsteps of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Richard Gere and Sharon Stone by taking the keys to a Hydrogen 7. The green theme of the 7-series is echoed in Leno’s massive 20,000 square-foot garage, which is largely powered by steam. Another notable “green” car in Leno’s collection is his bio-diesel-fueled EcoJet from the 2006 SEMA show. The Hydrogen 7 is powered by a V-12 with 260 horsepower and runs on traditional gasoline or liquid hydrogen. Cruising range is approximately 125 m…

Last night, one or more people broke into two cars in the small parking lot next to my apartment. This area has been notorious over the years for having cars broken into due to how secluded and dark it is at night (in a semi-wooded area). No windows from the apartment face this parking lot, so the thugs think it's a free-for-all and have hit some people twice even. I was third in line parked next to a newish Chevy TrailBlazer and a late 90s Pontiac Sunfire (the Pontiac was closest to the parking lot entrance). The guy that drives the TB is moving out next week to Michigan where his wife will be attending grad school. My car had a pretty new mini-fridge in the backs…

Everyone here seems to be thinking about a change of fleet. Camino is looking slowly at getting a better work truck, Balthazar is wanting that nifty Lincoln Flower car, Olds is looking for a car for Albert and a truck for his rental business, Dave 87 RS is thinking about a Cruze, Satty's wife is thinking about a Volvo, Roger wants a Truck, Ocean would be wanting another car if he had Jay Leno's garage, and I'm missing half the Forum. This thread could be pinned for awhile if Olds wants...but I would like to see if we could get a good discussion going on what we are all actually doing with changes to the C and G fleet. So, last Wednesday I check my personal email in the late morning and find this message waiting for me: Now I have purchased several items from the GMC Collection web site over the past couple of years (http://www.gmccollection.com/) and follow them on Facebook for updates, to ask inquiries, and to give my suggestions for items I'd like to purchase. I recently inquired about the availability of holiday ornaments, which they offered in 2010 (missed) and 2011 (got both) [note: there will be none this year]. I guess as a result of that latest round of questioning I received the email above. So fast forward to Saturday's mail delivery. This is what I retrieved out of th…

I don't consider myself handy but... this was pretty easy actually. I just put in a window mount air conditioner. I had to take out a fixed pane of glass to do it. I just ripped out some sheilding and pushed on the window, and it came off the caulking and popped right out. I was worried I was going to break it putting it in. The only problem is that I can't find my caulking, or my duct tape, so right now all the air leaks are sealed with scotch tape. Yes, its actually strong enough - 3M makes some good scotch tape, apparently. So, what else around the house is surprisingly easy? Has anyone else fixed something or installed something that they can give tips on? While …

Even though it does not feel like it in NJ (mid 80's the last week or so), I'm getting ready for the greatest holiday - Halloween. I usually spend all my time turning half my basement into a haunted house for our big Halloween party, but this year I decided to build some outdoor decorations from scratch. Meet Lloyd the unfriendly scarecrow. Got him up this morning to protect the house: And he will be soon joined by Harry out front: I'm pretty happy with the way they came out - newspaper, paper towels, chicken wire and duct tape. What are you guys doing for Halloween?

NO IT WASN'T ME! :rotflmao: BRANDYWINE HUNDRED, Del. - A man running naked and drunk on a highway accosted several Good Samaritans and caused three accidents, according to state police. Police said Ardonas Gilbert, 26, of Chester, Pa., was running along the southbound lanes of Interstate-95 near Marsh Road about 10 p.m. Monday. Gilbert allegedly assaulted two people who tried to help him get off the road and had caused three separate traffic crashes as people swerved to try to avoid him, police said. No one was seriously injured. Gilbert was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and a single count of being drunk on the highway. He is being held at the Howar…

Huge ice island could threaten shipping lanes Another Titanic? Scientists scramble to plot path of massive chunk that broke off Greenland STOCKHOLM — An island of ice more than four times the size of Manhattan is drifting across the Arctic Ocean after breaking off from a glacier in Greenland. Potentially in the path of this unstoppable giant are oil platforms and shipping lanes — and any collision could do untold damage. In a worst-case scenario, large chunks could reach the heavily trafficked waters where another Greenland iceberg sank the Titanic in 1912. It's been a summer of near biblical climatic havoc across the planet, with wildfires, heat and smog in Russia …

Just an idea, not sure how practical it is. Those of you more technical than me may let me know about details and what you think. Basically I was thinking about the mechanics of a hybrid and how it stores braking energy for later use. This idea does not have to necessarily be connected to a gasoline-run system. Think about a bicycle with a small electric motor integrated either into the bottom bracket (where the cranks attach) or into the rear wheel hub. A battery could be mounted on a rear rack, over the rear tire. The brakes could operate this in reverse to generate power (as in a hybrid car). You could then have some kind of throttle for a little electric boost to …

This is an interesting quiz that covers a broad scope of American civics history. The link below shows that as a whole, our elected officals score lower than ordinary citizens in this test. I think that speaks volumes for where this country is at today. http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/2008/...al_finding.html The quiz can be taken at the link below. I had 27/33, which is 82%. Found on Craigslist - This 1980 Camaro Mustang GTO Chevelle Charger Honda Prototype. What looks to us to be a thrown together combination of spare parts from the garage can be yours for the low price of $1,234 Canadian. That's right... 1,2,3,4. The owner believes it to be equipped with a rear-engine 450 (cc? ci? horsepower?) twin-cylinder. He also believes that keyword stuffing his ad's title will help interest some shopper looking for a Camaro or Chevelle into spending money on this. Three-wheeled cars have a long and interesting history. A new entry, Elio Motors, is in the start up stages using one of the closed manufacturing plants that GM sold during the bankruptcy…

I really want Gran Turismo 4, but they never release the GT series for the PC so scratch that. I was looking around for some PC racing game that have some semblence of realism like the GT series, and came across GTR Evolution and Need for Speed Pro Street. GTR looks like a decent game, but I'm more interested in muscle and production car racing and GTR is basically about high-end exotics and racers. Need for Speed Pro Street seems to have a great range of cars, but it seems to suffer in the realism department. I was watching a video on YouTube of a drag race, and people are hitting quarter miles in 5 seconds with old GTOs and 240SX's. I've only played Need for Spe…

We're going to expand on the previous few 'YDG' threads here, and this time use use larger displacement forced induction engines. This is a fun one, I think, because it rules out some of the usual candidates. Rules- 1)Production vehicles only. 2)These are your only vehicles. 3)maximum of 5 choices. 4)Any market and era is allowed. 5)Must have engine capacity greater than 4.0 liters, AND have some sort of forced induction. Have fun.

How in the HELL can we get rid of him? and then trading Garnett too? my gosh.

With all these "car shopping" threads in here lately, I thought I'd try one with a cool car in it for a change. So I'm going along my training route on the bicycle on Thursday when I see this early 2nd gen Camaro sitting on some guy's front lawn for sale. I didn't get a very good look at it, but I knew how to get to it for when I could take a longer look. Today, I'm in the neighborhood and I swing by to see if I can talk to the owner and get a better idea of the car's condition. To keep things short, here's the data: It's a '72 Camaro - the typical early '70s dark brown with black stripes. My guess is, it's not a Z/28 or SS, but it has the split bumper Looks to be …

This is so absurd! http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=84428 I guess it hit like $15,000,000 and the winner was a deadbeat so now it's been relisted. (there's a shocker ) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...mMakeTrack=true

The sister thread to the earlier one. I'll get right down to business here. Rules- 1- Production cars only. 2- Any era and market is allowed. 3- These are your only vehicles. 4- Choices must be greater than 4.0 liters of displacement, meaning AT LEAST 4.1 5- Naturally aspirated engines only. 6- No Hybrids. 7- You have 5 choices, but can add 5 more after doing a Top 5.

My black '98 Taurus SHO from GT4. I call her 'I'D HIT THAT!' Actually, its very 'go'-ish with 338hp now. Its definitely the queen of my 5-car fleet (including an '81 Civic hatch and a woeful 178hp Mazda6). I don't play all the time, but when I do have time, its fun.

Check this out!! Hopefully nobody posted this already, many of you have probably seen it already. I must admit, despite my car knowledge I was still shocked by the results.

http://www.buckeyehonda.com/used-cars.aspx Check out this Chevrolet truck...my 19 year old daughter Elizabeth wants a Chevy truck and I've been looking around. Thinking of going and test driving this one...but the price seems really high. We bought our Safari Van and our Concorde from this dealership and they treated us right...but this still seems high. What should this thing sell for? Chris

I saw it!! I saw it!! Just got back from seeing the Transformers movie.....OMFG, it was awesome. To hear that voice, to see those characters again, well, it turned me into a 10 year old again. I couldn't help it, I got goosebumps all over when Optimus Prime first spoke.....needless to say that the movie action was wonderful. Sure, it was "normal" Michael Bay action, lots of shakey hand-cam work, lots of explosions and action. Good thing is you can take the family to see the movie if you want to, there's maybe only a couple of times any form of foul language is used, and typically it won't be much more than a damn or a $h!....nothing horrible. If yo…

Yes, its Alanis Morissette performing My Humps. And its acoustic. The song still sucks, but its slightly less intolerable without the Black Eyed Peas.

During a recent taping of "Street Tuner Challenge", a mildy modified Cobalt SS pounds a Nissan Skyline, as well as a nitrous snorting Jetta. All cars were clearly at the limits of tire adhesion, as the little Cobalt had the best lap by more than seven full seconds. Too bad so sad. It was at Buttonwillow Raceway park, and it's coming up on Speedvision...Watch it if you like that sort of thing. :P no joke.

Ugh, the damned DNC is leaving unsolicited messages on my telephone, urging me to vote for that crackpot Obama. I've had to erase like 6 messages so far off my phone. What a bunch of blowhard a-holes. What makes these dizzy-asses think I want to listen to their CRAP? I should call back with *69 and see if I can get ahold of a real moron over there and cuss them out.

Why is it that this story conjures up images in my mind of primped-up, A.D.D. chimps with knives for finger nails? In any event, despite the serious nature of the event, I still chuckled at what floated through my imagination. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7944596.stm My favourite part: "Clothes and shoes were abandoned in the street as women tried to escape the melee." Either it's difficult to run in high heels, or it was an excuse to say, "LET'S GET NAKED!" ... sadly, I'm thinking the former.

A friend of mine recently died of cancer. I was sad to see her go in such a way as she was a beautiful soul and a wonderful friend. For her funeral, a group of us (3 ladies and 5 guys) all got together and shaved our heads and donated the contents to locks of love to have wigs made. We attended her funeral bald headed. Since I shaved my head I have continued to shave it every night. I normally have thick hair and I must say its a big change to get accustomed to. I didn't realize how much of my body heat my hair held in my body. It's cold bein bald.

WASHINGTON - Alan Greenspan says the country can't afford tax cuts of the magnitude proposed by Republican presidential contender John McCain — at least not without a corresponding reduction in government spending. "Unless we cut spending, no," the former Federal Reserve chairman said Friday when asked McCain's proposed tax cuts, pegged in some estimates at $3.3 trillion. "I'm not in favor of financing tax cuts with borrowed money," Greenspan said during an interview with Bloomberg Television. "I always have tied tax cuts to spending." McCain has said that he would offset his proposed cuts — including reducing the corporate tax rate and eliminating the Alternative M…

So I was supposed to get a '08 Malibu LTZ with the 2.4L to review yesterday....only....when the guy dropping it off was about 5 miles from my house, a hose blew. Coolant hose I think judging from the smoke and sweet smell the guy mentioned. How the hell does that happen on ANY car with only 6400 miles on it??

An old friend of mine wants me to come out there and do a new landscape for him. I'm actually considering doing it. The thing is, though, everything is different so I need to give myself a crash course in California landscaping befoe I can even determine if it is doable. So, I could use any information and or pics anyone local to that area could provide. I need some local supplier connections too.

Oh man, I've become absolutely hooked on YouTube clips of the British television show, Hollyoaks, and the story of two of its protagonists, John Paul and Craig. Their story has captivated me. So far, I've watched 38 clips, approximately 10 minutes each, over the last two days. And there are many more to go. What's your latest television obsession? Tell us.

So I was getting some trailer tires replaced and they had this artice with a 82 or 3 oldsmobile in it that was in cherry condition. I loved the article. The Dautsun (68!) and the benz were also really funny to read. I remember the winter beaters with the subaru justy.. i knew somebody that owned one of those. Anybody read the diesel beater article?

Hey everyone, every Saturday on our blog we've been running a series where we try to find (if not the best) the most interesting video clips and shots of drifting for the week. It's all for fun and we take submissions as well. I thought it might be cool to share here but let me know if you think otherwise. Anyway, check out this weeks clip here: http://blog.rvinyl.com/2015/04/11/driftsaturday-close-up-formula-drift-with-j-castro-racing/

So what kicked off this search was my reading Oldsmoboi's post, "If Mazda survives that long", and thinking, "What a wierd thing to say!". It got me thinking, I wonder if Mazda is only doing well here in Canada. So here are some graphs I dug up. Mazda outsells Nissan here in Canada, where in the US they get beaten almost 4-to-1. Also, note the American GM-Ford-Toyota podium vs. Ford-Chrysler-GM in Canada.
