Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

Is there a place for Future Global niche Vehicles at Buick? With the addition of the Insignia, and a future Theta (Centieme?) Buick looks to have strong lineup coming. My question what potential is there for niche vehicles? (Likely small volume imports) An Insignia sports tourer based Electra? An insignia coupe?

I went to the dealership last week to have the left front door check replaced on my 2006 Buick Lucerne which came cracked. While there I mentioned a problem I noticed especially prominent in city driving. When turning (especially to the left) I could feel something like a gear slipping. This was very hard to describe but felt pronounced in the steering wheel but no sound involved. When I left they told me there would probably be a recall on this when the problem was corrected. The service sheet said: BULLETIN #06-02-35-009 STATES NOT TO REPLACE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT OR STEERING GEAR. PERFORMED STEPS 1 - 5 AS PER BULLETIN. UNABLE TO REACH ENGINEERING AS IN STEP 6.…

I test drove a 2010 Buick Allure CXL on July 11, 2009 at the GM Canada test drive program at the Bramalea City Centre Mall. My reactions are as follows: The exterior fit and finish was excellent. The only glitch I noticed with the interior fit and finish was the intrument panel was installed about 1/8 inch too high on the left side so it does not line up with the door trim. Oddly, my 2008 Allure has the same problem. The body structure appears to be very ridgid with good ride and handling characteristics. Steering is good. The powertrain is very smooth. In my opinion this car looks much better in a dark colour rather than light. It was midnight blue. The one I s…

<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/drBYWdKDCfg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Pontiac is gone and I will always have a diminished enthusiasm for GM because of that. But Buick remains, and it is high time they took up some of Pontiac's slack in the hierarchy. A modern Regal GS coupe might ease a bit of pain... even if it is wrong wheel drive.

2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS is an American Lexus GM's first new car since it emerged from bankruptcy is as good as or better than the ES350 in every way, and is actually desirable. Dan Neil August 7, 2009 Fighter pilots call it "target fixation" when you become so focused on a single adversary that you lose situational awareness and fly into something large and obvious, like the ground. Buick's 2010 LaCrosse -- a near-luxury, mid-size-to-large sedan -- was built to put the cross-hairs on a single bogie, the Lexus ES350, and I'll tell you right now, it blows the Lexus out of the sky. Pow. Parachute. Smoking crater. Oh, you can quibble over one detail or another. The…

Buick is making their Regal Sportback a bit more luxurious with the introduction of a Avenir model for 2019. We first learned about this model thanks to General Motors’ 2019 fleet order guide last week. The Avenir transformation on the Regal begins outside with a three-dimensional mesh grille, 19-inch wheels finished in Pearl Nickel, LED headlights, and Avenir badging on the doors. Step inside to find either a ebony or beige design theme with diamond quilt-stitched front seats; embroidered headrests, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, 8-speaker Bose audio system, and a wireless charging pad for your smartphone. A driver assistance suite of features that includ…

Good news everyone! Buick has announced that the Avenir name will go into production. Before you get your hopes up and think that it's going to be used for a new model, Buick is planning to use Avenir for their new luxury sub-brand. “Avenir will be Buick’s signature. The highest expression of the luxury experiences we’re delivering now and in the future,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick Sales, Service and Marketing. Think of Buick's Avenir as GMC's Denali brand. Models badged as Avenir will feature a three-dimensional mesh grille, large-diameter wheels, unique trim finishes and materials; and seat details. Expect some special equip…

Buick bills itself as a producer of “Premium American Motorcars,” and its target audience is the somewhat conservative, fairly affluent buyer. But in spite of this rather traditional approach, Buick has occasionally broken out of that mould to market some surprising high performance machines. In 1936, for example, it introduced the Century, named for its 100 mph (161 km/h) capability. It was basically Buick’s light Special model fitted with the Roadmaster’s 5.2-litre (320 cu in.), 120 horsepower overhead valve, straight-eight engine. In the 1960s, the Buick Wildcat wrapped sybaritic luxury in a sparkling performer, and Car Life magazine dubbed it the “Executive Hot-R…

Buick has a new crossover in China. Meet the Envision, which will sit between the Encore and Enclave crossovers. The new midsize model features elements of the Encore and LaCrosse with an oversized grille, faux hood vents, distinctive headlights, and chrome trim running along the rear hatch. Inside is Buick's wraparound dash with a mix of leather, wood, and metal throughout. There's a noise-canceling system in the vehicle to provide a quiet ride, along with a eight-inch touchscreen for infotainment duties. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 256 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. This is paired up to a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Bu…

Last week, we brought you details on the pricing structure on 2016 Buick Envision. We also learned some information about the 2017 model, including the base price, engine, and trim levels. Car and Driver has done a bit more digging and was able to pull some more details on the 2017 Envision. We know that the base Envision will carry a sticker price of $34,990 (includes destination). From there, the prices increase to $36,975 for the Preferred and $38,645 for the Essence. All three trims feature the same 2.5L four-cylinder with 197 horsepower and 192 pound-feet. This engine comes paired with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is only available…

Buick here in America is a brand of declining sales, lackluster product (excluding Enclave) and an aging customer base. Buick China: A thriving, growing brand with a wide audience and successful, competent product. Many have legitimately complained about the lack of such support and backing in the form excellent product being offered here in the USA. This is all about to change. Enclave is the start of great things for the Buick brand. GM hasn’t given up; Buick is a very important part of the new GM going forward. This key fob excellently demonstrates what GM intends to take Buick; this type of elegance and luxury will become the norm at Buick as it moves upmarket. …

General Motors CEO Mary Barra said something interesting about the Chevrolet Bolt EV earlier this year. “…the Bolt is our platform that we’re going to continue on and have a huge range of vehicles.” Now, a new report from InsideEVs has possible details on one of these new models. According to a source that attended a focus group in California, the vehicle in question is a new Buick crossover that is said to look like a next-generation Encore. The model will use the Bolt's structure and powertrain, but come with a different design and features such as a floating roof and a push-button drive selector. The Buick crossover will be about the same size as the Bo…

This is quite an extensive article written in anticipation of the new Lucerne which I found fairly objective and it also brings up a few interesting points such as offering the supercharged 3.8 in the Lucerne. I don't know how knowledgeable this guy is to the future plans of the Lucerne but nobody here has really brought that up as even a potential option for the Lucerne. The article seems to be friendly to GM but it also points of some weaknesses of the Lucerne that are pretty crucial, such as the Avalon getting their V6 to 5 more HP than Lucerne's V8. http://www.mysanantonio.com/business/stori...k.20db0e19.html

The sport-injected 2011 Buick Regal is powered and tuned to deliver the precise, agile handling of a premium sport sedan, coming Spring 2010. Regal comes standard with a 2.4L ECOTEC™ SIDI Variable-valve timing engine that puts out 182 hp. Plus, it's paired with a 6-speed transmission that features Driver Shift Control. And to make your driving experience that much more dynamic, Regal boasts a class-exclusive Interactive Driver Control system that offers three selectable modes to adjust suspension, steering, throttle and transmission s…

As with the Grand Prix, it appears that production of the W Lacrosse has ended as of December 23rd without fanfare. On cursory glance I don't see any mention of this on the fan sites either. RIP. Looking forward to seeing the much improved/modern EpII version on the road soon... Production of the LaCrosse/Allure is set to end Dec. 23 as the result of the end of the car's production life. This was announced earlier in the year and will mean 400 fewer jobs in the plant. These jobs have already been taken care of through retirement incentives and buyouts, Mr. Lowe said. http://www.newsdurhamregion.com/news/business/article/116043

I think this has been covered, but I think Buick really screwed up on the Lucerne grill. First, the shape is homely, not bold. Second, they black out the grill on the upmarket CXS and CXL trying to appeal to "Euro" buyers. Bring out the chrome baby. Despite all that I wouldn't mind owning a Ming Blue CX with a cloth bench and that homely but shiny grill. But I'd wait for the $$$ to come down or buy a one year old low mileage rental.

We know a fair amount about the upcoming Buick Regal GS such as what it might look like and a possible powertrain. Thanks a spy photographer, we have got our first look at what is in store for the U.S. The most apparent item that the photos reveal is that the U.S. version of the Regal GS will mostly mimic the one China. Both models feature the aggressive front end with narrow headlights, revised waterfall grille, and large vents in the bumper. The U.S.-spec GS differs from the Chinese one as it will only come in the sportback variant - China gets the sedan. Another key difference is the wheels. Whereas the Chinese-market looks to be sporting some five-spoke wheels wi…

The Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse are well past their sell-by-date. GM knows this and will be introducing new versions of both within the next year. We haven't seen any spy shots of either model, til today. Autoblog published some spy shots of the next-generation Buick Enclave undergoing some hot-weather testing in Death Valley. From the shots, it looks like Buick will be retaining the shape of the current model. Although, it looks like the roofline has changed somewhat towards the back. We can pick out the new grille that we first saw on the new LaCrosse along with a set of LED running lights. The Enclave is expected to use a stretched version of the Chi…

In mid-June, GM will change from its present TV message to promoting Buick, according to David Welch and David Kiley in Business Week. "The primary focus is on hooking younger buyers who have zero loyalty to GM vehicles. Buick, while popular in China, has come to be considered a fogy brand at home (average buyer age: 66). Americans love a makeover, so that is the theme Buick has latched on to. One ad has a plastic surgery spin with the catch line: 'Nip. Tuck. Weld.' To reel in younger buyers, ads for Buick's curvy new LaCrosse sedan will feature its array of Lexus-caliber gadgetry, including a hard drive for music, a system that alerts drivers if someone is in their bli…

Just checked out the order guide and it looks like the new 3.6L will be rated at 303 hp [226.04 kW] @ 6800 and Torque 264 lb-ft. [356.40 N-m] @ 5300 for the front wheel drive model--a nice bump over its predecessor. The AWD model is still listed as TBD. Might be a fuel economy jump as well. The same engine and transmission setup in the Impala is rated 18/30 city/highway. And I just noticed the 2.4L with eAssist only has a 15.7 gallon tank... was hoping they'd stay with the normal 18 gallon (19 on AWD) tanks and have a long range. EDIT: Link to the Order Guide

From Detroit Free Press interview with Bob Lutz. Not sure what it means for Velite. Any interpretations? Q: Does each of GM's brands need a flag-in-the-ground car to define it like the Solstice does Pontiac? A: Arguably yes. We've got all kinds of great ideas for things we can do with iconic Hummers without getting bigger and bigger. Cadillac is a no-brainer. Someday we're going to do -- it's definitely in the product plan, but not kicked off yet -- we will do an ultra-luxury sedan involving an engine of more than eight cylinders and costing far more than any Cadillac has ever cost before, but not going into the $300,000 area. As Maybach ha…

Have you seen the color chips for the new Buicks, particularly for the LaCrosse? Disappointing. The Dark Mocha is basically a dark root beer brown and not a sable type shade. The Midnight Blue is almost black. The Gold Mist looks like a urine sample. The 2 reds are pretty mainstream; that is, no deep burgundy or a "cool" shade like Mulberry seen on Cadillacs and SUVs in years past Lastly, the absence of a Light Quartz equivalent is bad news for a brand that sells well in light blues. Overall, I find the color palette too dark. Do you agree?

On July 31st my salesman sent me an e-mail and said the car I ordered (LaCrosse Super) was built last week at the #2 Oshawa assembly plant and should arrive any day. Well it still hasn't. He gave me a copy of the build order. I'm wondering if there was any way I could check online to see if the car has left the plant yet and is in transit. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I'm getting a little worried about it. Thanks.

check out the interior of this one. I saw the Bengal in Detroit a few years back...very slick, but I like the Velite better. At this point, if Buick made a Terrazza convertible I'd buy it! Just give us a ragtop! http://www.autointell.com/nao_companies/ge...k-bengal-01.htm

Did anyone else notice that on the LaX page (I believe page 70), that the engine choice for best economy was the 2.4L 4 cylinder? That's the first I've seen of that powerplant for the LaX.

The black grille on the Lucerne looks gorgeous. It's actually black chrome, not the matte black plastic we are used to. I personally prefer it over the all chrome grille. The press photos just don't do justice. I saw it in person.

Anyone get this Buick Magazine called "B?" It's pretty cool, has nice pictures and features on Buick, owners, etc. The latest issue has some cool pictures of old Buick dashboard clocks.

From seeing the inventory at a local Buick dealer I noticed that the base model has a chrome grille and the other 2 have shiny black grilles. This is ass backwards; the CXS, which has a chrome strip on the lower trunk edge, chrome exhausts, etc., is the one that should have the chrome grille, not the base model; what are these people thinking!

Very cool resource for Buick information. http://friendsofbuick.com Friends Of Buick Offers Fresh Perspective On Storied American Brand New website launches and evolves at http://www.friendsofbuick.com Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) May 22, 2006 -- In celebration of Buick’s 103rd anniversary, Michigan-based organization Friends of Buick is pleased to announce the launch of FriendsOfBuick.com. In the "On the Table" section of his Autoextremist.com website, Peter DeLorenzo has written very positively :) about the Buick Lucerne and Buick's new ad campaign, "Beyond Precision." He calls the Lucerne "a handsomely-executed, contemporary sedan that exudes style and offers tremendous value." Here is a direct link. (His comments are the last item on the page.)

I like the Regal, and I would even add the Wagon to Buick. But to me it doesn't have the Fine details Lacrosse and Enclave have. The Regal design has much more in common with Saturns. I also think GME has there own thing going on. While Buick is central to GMAP. I am a huge fan of The Lacrosse design. And the 2 main designers Justin Thompson, and Richard Duff are with GMAP now. Duff With Patac, and Thompson back at Holden. And Gmap has done some really nice Buick concepts. The IMO Gorgeous Riv concept GMAP also has Both RWD/AWD and FWD/AWD platforms to build on. Either with an on demand AWD option would work. Where do you think would produce a Better, m…

Just saw the November issue of Motor Trend at the bookstore, and, in a column of bits and pieces titled "MT Confidential," it was stated (in pretty much these words) that once and for all, according to their spies, the Buick rear-drive program is dead and there is nothing on the horizon. What does this mean for the future of Buick then? Does future product planning hinge on the sales of the Lucerne? Is the Buick Lambda crossover the last to debut so that, given the worst circumstances, it could be canceled?

GM Expects 40% Conquest Rate with Enclave When the 2008 Buick Enclave goes on sale next year, General Motors Corp. expects up to 40% of the new SUV's customers to come from other automakers, Steve Shannon, Buick's general manager, said Thursday. GM has not revealed pricing for the midsize model, which uses a car-like structure to provide better fuel economy, more room and more comfort than traditional SUVs like the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, the Enclave's targets, the upscale -- but smaller -- Acura MDX and Lexus RX350, have base prices of $39,995 and $37,400, respectively. Detroit Free Press

I know we've covered the new move on advertising Buick has started in a couple other posts, but this article is very in depth and gives a very clear look on what Buick is planning on doing so I started another topic: Buick Shifts From 'Dream' to 'Precision' By STUART ELLIOTT Published: November 18, 2005 THE struggling Buick division of General Motors is changing campaigns for the second time in little more than a year. Advertising that since fall 2004 had carried the theme "Dream up," featuring the Aerosmith song "Dream On" - up, on, who can keep track? - is being discarded in favor of a campaign proclaiming that Buick …

I got a response back from Buick about the Velite, saying it was "still under consideration." I also read that Steve Shannon owns a 1961 Alfa Romeo, so I guess he's a convertible guy. Maybe this means he'd like to have the Velite built so he can drive a convertible from his own company.

i bought a 08 Lucerne several months ago. Once in a while the compass goes crazy, flipping between headings. Then, suddenly settles down and becomes accurate. Anyone else have this problem and any idea what might cause this? I'm wondering if things like high voltage power lines might cause a magnetic disturbance. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

I thought this was interesting. The Truth About Cars reviewed the Lucerne at http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/?p=1646. Someone from a site called Friends Of Buick questioned parts of the review in the comments section below it and wrote pages on the Lucerne and its quality, ride and handling. Long but worth a read. Does anybody here own a Lucerne? It is the first Buick I have thought about buying in some time and I would like to hear what the owners think of it.

I was wondering if the 0% financing is a cyclical thing, where it happens at the same time(s) of year every year? I think I recall seeing lots of commercials for this around the 4th of July and Labor Day last year. I also just got a notice in the mail that I can get another $750 bonus earnings to be used alongside my GM extended family card earnings. By the sounds of the brochure they sent, I can use all of this in addition to special financing rates. But the offer ends on Feb 28th. Currently Buick is only offering 4.9% or cash back. I would much rather have the 0.0% financing. Does anyone know if there are specific times of year they offer this? Looking to …

So.... This guy is the head of Buick design in Michigan, and I was appalled by his presentation of the Cascada. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPL8nxbTKDE Problems I had: "The fit and finish is superior in this vehicle." Superior to what? "It's a very simple interior." You have 46 buttons on the center stack. FORTY-SIX. All touching each other. "This car is not all about the latest technologies.... It's more about the driver's experience, and sense of well-being." Perhaps you shouldn't lead off with saying this car doesn't have the latest technology. "... very simple controls, very simple layout." FORTY-SIX buttons and 4 dials in your center stack,…

OK, Im not trying to distract from the release of the Lucerne. Still I am spured from a look at the Camaro concept and recent topics where I have questioned wheres the investment for Buick ? Remember the 3 billion ? I am really happy with the Lacrosse and the Lucerne, Lacrosse needed some time to grow on me but you know, I think excluding its few flaws that we dont need to rebash it is an excellent car for what and where it is, an improved and rebodied mid lux. The Lucerne is very striking, yet sensible and roomy but once again... improved rebody. Are we going to get one car from these new RWD platforms and suspension technology? One car that really cranks the old hea…

The GM FastLane Blog presents a transcript of a recent speech by Bob Lutz, under the heading "Re-Igniting the Passion," dated April 13, 2006. In the transcript, Lutz is quoted that GM has big plans for Saturn and all of its brands. So I posted a message asking for more information. In case they do not use it, here is what I wrote: "Mr. Lutz, it was interesting to read your statement, "So we have big plans for Saturn, as we do for all of our brands." We can certainly see and GM has clearly explained what is in store for Saturn. But GM has done a poor job relating what is the future for one of your cornerstone brands, Buick. No one is asking you to reveal future prod…

Ever dreamed of owning a concept car? We'll you'll have your chance to bid on one in a few months time. RM Auctions has the Buick Blackhawk Concept from 2001 that will be crossing the auction block. The Blackhawk concept mixes vintage Buick design and components with modern technology. The styling is a combination of the late forties Roadmaster and Y-Job concept. There is a power retractable top which is made out of carbon fiber and stows in the decklid. Power comes from a 455 cubic-inch (7.5L) V8 from the 1970 GS Stage III with 463 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. This is paired up to a four-speed automatic. The Blackhawk was sold back in 2009 at the Barrett-Ja…
