I'm of the opinion that the new Suzuki Swift being sold in Europe would make a great entry-level Suzuki product, plus it would build on Suzuki's motorcycyle performance image as a cut-rate Mini... Anyone know the plan? I'd rather see these here than the Daewoo's now in showrooms.

NEW YORK (AP) -- General Motors Corp. has a tentative deal to sell its Saturn brand to former race car driver and dealership group owner Roger Penske, both companies said Friday. Penske has signed a memorandum of understanding that would give his dealership chain, Penske Automotive Group, Saturn's 350 dealerships, the companies said. Penske said that he expects to offer all the dealers new franchise agreements and will retain all 13,000 Saturn employees for the immediate term. "I would expect that the model that we're putting together, the distribution model, will be profitable day one," Penske said in an interview with The Associated Press. "We'll have less costs. We…

I don't know if this has been mentioned lately, but I was at my local Chevy dealer this morning and I noticed that all the 2006 models were wearing the GM badge. Are these going to be on everything or only a select few? I know that some Chrysler products wear a small Pentastar on the passenger front door area, but never knew why for that either...

WARREN, MICHIGAN - Like everybody else working for General Motors, Mark Reuss, the vice president for global vehicle engineering is happy Opel is not going to be sold. Meanwhile, he's changing the GM plan from his predecessor, Jim Queen's, global product development strategy. Under Queen, each region, or "global engineering center," had permanent responsibility for a specific set of products. Russelsheim, Germany, Opel's headquarters, pretty much owned the Epsilon/Epsilon II front-drive midsize platform, for example, while small cars were done at GM-Daewoo in South Korea and large trucks, SUVs and the Corvette were developed in Michigan. "I'll never do that because each …

General Motors' upcoming restructuring plan where more than 10,000 jobs will be cut and five factories losing products has caused many politicians to become very upset. Yesterday, CEO Mary Barra traveled to Capitol Hill to try an mitigate the social damage by this announcement. Those expecting Barra to backpedal or balk under pressure from various lawmakers on moving production of certain vehicles out of Mexico to plants in the U.S. would come away disappointed. “I want to make sure that the workforce knows that there are limitations and we do have an overcapacity across the country. I understand this is something that impacts the country and I understand that there…

If you thought the pain and suffering against diesel would end anytime soon, think again. Today in Federal Court in Detroit, a class-action lawsuit was filed against General Motors by 705,000 owners of the 2011 to 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra HDs equipped with the Duramax V8 diesel claiming the engine has illegal software to skirt emission tests. The 190-page suit says GM equipped the Duramax V8 with various software programs to pass regulatory emission tests, while spewing two to five times the legal limit when driven under regular conditions. Bloomberg notes the suit has 83 references to Volkswagen and alleges environmental damage caused by these trucks…

Back to the '70s: GM hot on custom vans Now that SUVs are getting less popular, maybe we'll all love vans again. November 11, 2005: 10:53 AM EST By Peter Valdes-Dapena, CNN/Money staff writer NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Remember when vans were cool? No, not minivans. Those were never cool. I mean custom vans. You know, wheel-to-wheel carpeting. Wood trim. Lots of stereo speakers. If you're old enough, you remember some other things that were cool around that time, too. Disco music. "Keep on truckin'" T-shirts. Big hair. Well get ready, because the folks at General Motors are betting that we might be ready for a bit of a comeback. Not the ha…

What are the odds of the GM leaders waking up and do something that would make a great impression on Washington and the rest of the country. When they go back to Washington drive the best new product and efficent product you have and even bring a few Future mules like a Volt. If Rick drove up and parked at the Capital steps in a Volt Mule that made it all the way from Detroit alone with a Cruze and a hand full of their best hybirds it would not only put it on Washington but it would show what GM is really doing to a uninformed public. Make a show of this a show of what really is going on. Leave the Jets and SUV's at home and show how GM is and will compete in the…

TCC Test: 2007 Suzuki SX4 Though it's called a crossover, the SX4 has all the desirable attributes of a "station wagon"-you know, that ancient phrase for, um, essentially the same thing. It's a five-door hatchback with second-row seats that tumble forward for maximum cargo-carrying. Five passengers fit in its chairs, and as long as you're not the poor guy sitting in the middle of the second row, life is pretty good. And its bottom line includes one very coveted attribute: standard all-wheel drive. Suzuki says the $14,999 SX4 is the lowest-priced all-wheel-drive vehicle sold in the United States. DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. is recalling 804,000 full-size pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles because of potential brake problems, federal safety regulators said Tuesday. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said unwanted application of the antilock brake system in some vehicles can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed braking and may result in a crash. Vehicles affected by the recall include the Chevrolet Avalanche and Silverado pickups and the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs. The GMC Sierra pickup and Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs are also affected. All 804,000 vehicles trucks are from the 1999-2002 model years, NHTSA said.…

By Jason Stein Automotive News / October 03, 2005 DETROIT -- General Motors is confident that its Saturn Vue Green Line will save fuel -- at a price that makes it easier for buyers to swallow the extra cost of a hybrid. Mark LaNeve, GM North America vice president of vehicle sales, service and marketing, says a premium of $1,000 to $1,500 is "in the neighborhood" of what GM will charge for the gasoline-electric hybrid scheduled to arrive next summer. Other automakers, such as Ford, Honda and Toyota, charge a premium of $3,000 to $5,000 for their hybrids. A front-wheel-drive, four-cylinder version of the 2006 Saturn Vue has a s…

Time for Wagoner to Show Why GM Needs Him Detroit Free Press Tom Walsh JUly 4, 2006 If General Motors Corp. CEO Rick Wagoner wants to keep his job and lead GM's revival his way, he needs to show Kirk Kerkorian and Wall Street the light at the end of GM's turnaround tunnel. Very soon. And if that means blatantly lifting a page from Carlos Ghosn's turnaround playbook at Nissan Motor Co. -- by setting specific near-term revenue and profit targets and vowing to resign if they are not met -- then Wagoner ought to do it. Forget all the highfalutin talk about synergies, made in Friday's proposal by Kerkorian's Tracinda Corp., that GM should join forces in a global…

DETROIT — General Motors executives say they are being inundated with e-mail messages — sometimes 300 or more in one day — from Camaro enthusiasts who are anxious to get their hands on a production version of the concept car shown in January at the North American International Auto Show. "People will not get off Camaro," Bob Boniface, GM director of advanced design, told Inside Line. "Those people were hurt when that car went out of production, and they're letting us hear about it." IL reported in January that GM expects to build the Camaro by 2009, according to supplier sources. Boniface would not confirm last week's reports in a Canberra, Australia, newspaper that a …

PSA Group is demanding a refund from General Motors of between $711 million and $948 million stemming from the purchase of Opel by PSA. PSA is claiming that GM misrepresented Opel's emissions reduction strategy during the due diligence negotiations. EU Emissions regulations for 2021 set a target reduction of 130 g/km to 95 g/km. Regulators can fine manufacturers $113 per vehicle per gram over the limit. Any vehicle at the 130 g/km limit today would see fines of $3,955 per car sold. PSA claims that GM's plan for reaching that target relied on unrealistically high sales of the Opel Ampera-E, the European model of the US built Chevrolet Bolt EV, and extra rosy…

DETROIT - The financial safety net that cushions General Motors Corp. union workers during downturns, a program called the jobs bank, could be targeted for elimination just as the company seeks to cut 30,000 jobs. GM's plans outlined Monday to stop production at 10 U.S. facilities will increase only the number of autoworkers in the jobs bank, experts who follow the industry said. Under the program, initially agreed to with the UAW in contract negotiations in 1984, the three Detroit automakers pay hourly workers full wages and benefits even when a plant has closed or production stops. The companies agreed to the program so the UAW wouldn't fight new measures …

http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflas...0527_888775.htm It's going to take some outstanding product and marketing to get young people thinking about Ford, GM and Chrysler the same way they think about Toyota, Honda and the other import manufacturers as we keep moving along. I tend to be a realist, and my gut is telling me that things are probably going to be very ugly for the Big 3 over the next year or two, maybe even permanently (except for Ford perhaps), but I still have a little bit of hope left. I'm down here in Texas, so I'm pretty far removed from the Big 3 stronghold area (Midwest) but I still see young people driving newer domestic cars and trucks …

By: Jamie LaReau Automotive News DETROIT -- General Motors is starting a national incentive program to run through Jan. 3 despite claims that it would hold to its value pricing strategy. The program, called GM Red Tag Event, starts Monday, Nov. 14, auto dealers say. A GM spokeswoman declined to comment on Friday, Nov. 11. Under the program customers can get any 2005 or 2006 Buick, Pontiac, GMC or Chevrolet car or light truck at the supplier price plus $100, several dealers say. The exceptions to the sale are the Pontiac Solstice, Chevrolet Corvette and new Buick Lucerne, they say. The supplier price is the price offered to employees of GM suppliers. For example…

GM Wants 10% of Asian Market by '10 General Motors Corp., its market share shrinking at home, is turning to Asia to boost its profits, and aims to capture 10% of the region's market by 2010, the U.S. automaker's regional chief said 10%. Top target markets are China and India, where rapid economic growth is fueling demand for cars, said Nick Reilly, president of GM Asia Pacific. GM aims to sell 1.3 million vehicles in Asia this year to grab a 6.5% market share, two-thirds of which is expected to come from China, he said. Last year, GM's sales hit just over 1 million units in Asia for the first time, giving it a market share of 5.7%. Detroit Free Press

WASHINGTON - The Securities and Exchange Commission has upgraded its probe of retiree-benefits accounting at General Motors Corp., making the investigation formal and giving federal regulators the power to issue subpoenas and review records. Toni Simonetti, a spokeswoman for Detroit-based GM, declined to comment. Such a subpoena could only have been issued if the SEC had voted to upgrade its probe of GM to a formal investigation. SEC spokesman John Nester declined to comment. “Five Things I Think I Think” Remarks by Robert A. Lutz Automotive News World Congress Marriott Hotel GM Renaissance Center Detroit, Michigan January 23, 2008 Thanks and good evening, everyone. It’s a pleasure to be back at the Automotive News World Congress. It’s been five years since I’ve spoken here, which seems unbelievable to me, but it’s true. Back in ’03, I predicted that the automotive industry was on the cusp of a New Golden Age… then proceeded to explain how the New Golden Age wasn’t going to look much like the Old Golden Ages. To my credit, I didn’t say exactly when this was going to happen… Obviously, we’re not reveling in the throes …

I may be the only one who cares but does anyone know if the Vibe/Matrix will be available in '08? Reason I'm asking is that we will likely be downsizing when the lease is up on our '06 Caravan in March of '08. The next-gen. Mopar minivans are simply going to be to big for us--and more importantly, we want something that gets better fuel economy. We'd like to stick with a wagon-y vehicle. I drove a Caliber and it wasn't too bad, though I started feeling claustrophobic inside of it pretty quickly (that cursed high beltline). One of the vehicles we are thinking of is the Vibe, but I don't know if it's still going to be around next spring. Anyone else know?

See article: http://www.autoindustry.co.uk/news/industry_news/11-10-05_3 If Volvo is not-for-sale, perhaps Saab is.. What does GM have invested into Saab that it cannot live without? I can't think of one thing. Saab is yet another constraint on GM's pocketbook. What if GM could sell Saab, thereby ridding itself of a cash-drain and putting some money in it's checkbook at a time (ahem, Delphi) when it looks like it needs it. Seeing that the stillborn Saab 9-6…

Interesting to see that all those "GOD'S GIFT TO THE MODERN CAR" Toyota dealership began as Chevrolet dealers, thanks to the government doing their best to eliminate our industry. And to think... Those Japan Inc. guys are just ***SUCH** honest businessmen that their entire existance is founded on screwing over Detroit. REMEMBER: It's GM that buys off analysts and is a threat to our country, RIGHT?!?!?! BTW: I'm not sure how credible this source is, but it makes perfect sense to me. (i.e. Be prepared for an insider to deny all of this and call GM the devil while praising Toyota...yada, yada, yada, you know the Toyota Corporate PR spiel) Click the link

BY JUSTIN HYDE, DET. FREE PRESS WASHINGTON BUREAU Link- On table: Health care, trade Sought: Help, not a bailout WASHINGTON - The meeting should "enhance the president's understanding of the importance of the domestic auto industry to the economic health of the United States," General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said in a recent interview, emphasizing the word "domestic." Foreign automakers that build cars in the United States help the economy, "but it's not the same as a fully integrated American auto company that retains the intellectual property in the United States, has primarily American shareholders," he said, so "the wealth gets reinvested in the U.S." For…

General Motors pulls ads from Imus show The Detroit News General Motors Corp. has joined the ranks of sponsors pulling ads from the "Imus in the Morning" program following the shock jock's controversial comments last week about African-American, female college athletes. GM said it will stop advertising during the Imus show, which is broadcast nationally during peak morning drive time over the CBS radio network and simulcast daily on the MSNBC cable television channel. The automaker issued a statement saying "General Motors obviously does not condone the comments Don Imus recently made in reference to the Rutgers University women's basketball team. Automotive News May 29, 2008 - 3:37 am ET UPDATED: 5/29/08 4:29 p.m. EDT DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors' top managers are working on additional restructuring measures to deal with a declining U.S. auto market and an accelerated shift from trucks to more fuel efficient vehicles, a person familiar with the plan told The Associated Press late Wednesday. The person, who requested anonymity because the plan is still being devised, would not give details of what is under discussion by Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner and his top managers. The source told the AP that GM will furlough entire shifts of workers at some truck factories and may move them to nearby car plants…

We have seen the beat on set now it is the Corvette XR1? and a updated Bumble Bee Z/28?. I know the Camaro is one of the two GTO based cars but it has been updated in several areas. The hood and front splitter look to be possible Z/28 parts as the hood would give added clearance for a supercharger and the spitter would give more front down force for the car like on the ZR-1. Also the wheels were used on the Convertable prototype at one point. Also note the black sections on the bumpers that could have the brake cooling and fog lights. Note the headlights look more like the production car as we expect them. Also the Vette XR1 is one I have not see or hea…

GM sales rise; Ford, Chrysler slip Despite an expected decline in U.S. industry sales, GM reported a 3.4 percent total sales increase, compared with February 2006. The sales gain was due to an 11 percent retail sales increase. Retail and fleet sales by GM dealers in the United States totaled 311,763 vehicles, compared with sales of 301,545 in February 2006. Fleet sales were down 18 percent due to a planned 25 percent reduction in daily rental sales. "Our pickup, SUV and crossover business was terrific across the board. Our customers are telling us that we have the winning formula - the best products, industry-leading fuel economy and the best value," said Mark LaNeve, v…

When is the UAW going to $h! that turd out? I suppose he'll just go down with the ship. I love the last comment in the article: "“We’ve helped them before, but it seems like they always come back to us,” said Shane Colvard, chairman of Local 2164 in Bowling Green, Ky., where G.M. builds the Chevrolet Corvette sports car." This is precisely the mentality that got Detroit where they are. I hope you starve Mr. Colvard. If GM can't even get their own employee base in line, they're doomed. You see, in the "real world" Mr. Colvard would be escorted out for a comment like that to the media. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/04/business...?pagewanted=all …

So guys.....I don't have a link to any website, just info that our GM and Sales Managers told us this morning........ Effective today, GMAC is implementing these new finance restrictions: 1) GMAC will not finance or lease any consumer with less than a 700-fica score.....period. 2) GMAC will not finance or lease any car deal for anything more than dealer invoice amount....that amount including sales tax and fees. The way I see it, in order to finance or lease a deal through GMAC, a dealer has to sell a car for invoice (or less?).....and the customer has to come up with down payment to cover taxes and fees. OR, if a dealer sells for over invoice, customer has to …

General Motors took a surprising step a few years ago when they introduced a Cruze with a diesel engine for the U.S. The model gets 46 MPG on the highway and is meeting the sales expectations the company has set. Well according to Steve Kiefer, GM’s vice president of global powertrain, there could be more diesel options coming to the U.S. “The Chevrolet Cruze diesel will be the first of many diesel-powered passenger cars General Motors will offer in the United States,” said Kiefer to an audience at the 2014 Management Briefing Seminars. “We will continue to introduce more diesels as appropriate and as the market accepts them.” Kiefer said that diesels in cars and light …

it's true that some market analysts have taken a strong stance against the bailout. some are in favor, but mostly it is government officials, democrats and barack obama, leading the charge that governmental loans along with some kind of restructuring and a solid plan going forward for market prosperity are the way forward for automakers. for any kind of positive drumbeat going for the automakers getting any money, we have the democrats to thank really. most free market analysts look at GM as a loss. why? here's one topic that has been touched on but not been scrutinized enough. product acceptance, perception, and the problems GM and Ford have with selling thier cars in …

GM Prepares North Florida to Go Yellow TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – General Motors today announced that it has facilitated plans for the launch of E85 ethanol fueling sites in the greater Tallahassee area thanks to a collaborative partnership with Inland Food Stores and the State of Florida. GM has been the catalyst behind several similar partnerships across the country as part of a broader, national campaign to boost the use and awareness of ethanol-based E85 fuel in the United States. The announcement was made today at the Inland Food Store at 3500 North Monroe, the first location to publicly offer E85 ethanol in Florida, at an event presided over by Florida Governor Jeb Bu…

I picked up a bunch of '06 GM brochures the other day.....two of them being the 2006 G6 brochure and the 2006 Cobalt brochure. In the G6 brochure, on the page that is titled "Larger. Smarter. Faster. Pick Three" and about 15 pages into the brochure, Pontiac claims that the GT models feature "...mores standard power than Audi A4 or BMW 323i." BMW hasn't sold a 323 model since the early 2000's. The standard 2006 BMW 325i has 215 horsepower....clearly MORE than the GT's 3.5L V6. In the Cobalt brochure, on page 5, talking about the SS coupe and sedan, GM advertises a "Tuned Sport suspension and a fully synchronized five-speed AU…

General Motors Responds to Editorial The Toledo Blade August 7, 2006 How ironic that The Blade's smugly ignorant editorial on General Motors ("D-Day near for GM," July 31) referred to D-Day. Both the D-Day invasion of Normandy and your editorial relied upon misinformation. The military used misinformation before the invasion to confuse the Germans and help end World War II. We're still puzzled why The Blade used misinformation against GM, which has helped support Toledo 's economy since 1916. One gets the sense after reading the editorial that The Blade, rather than bothering to do any research, based its assessment of GM on faded memories of the satirical film,…

I would just like to kindly thank you Miss Queen for saying what has needed to be said for years. Consumer Reports is nothing but a criminal "magazine" with obvious intentions in mind. The guts it took for you to stand up and say what was on your mind, as well as many within the company is nothing short of spectacular. I commend you for your admiration and dedication to the company. It's about time people within GM grow a back bone and stand up for what they believe in. It's just a shame it was retracted by the powers that be. What's Lori's e-mail address, I say we all personally thank her for expressing her true feelings on the matter.

Toyota, DaimlerChrysler, and Nissan-Renault are the only auto companies with enough money to buy a faltering GM. VW is about broke, Ford is in the red, BMW and Honda are too small. Here's my prediction...DCX. Zetsche takes over the helm...merges Mercedes, Chrysler and GM into a global juggernaut and moves the company headquarters to Detroit, so as to appease Americans. They'll probably get rid of some overlapping brands for N.A. GM has too many valuable assets around the world like Holden, Daewoo, Chevrolet, and Cadillac, and Opel. It's the largest automaker in China. GM will never disappear. Before they would go into a bankruptcy, I think the GM bra…

As forcast last week by GeneralWatch and reported in today's Automotive News, GM once again proves why management has no credibility. Wait until the folks who recently took delivery find out that they missed the boat as GM gives another example of why LaNeve and Company are not to be believed and should be immediately shown the door. How about the hard working retail personnel who had planned family vacations with the kids before school? In other words, thanks folks for working so hard, now choose between making dough and spending quality time with loved ones. Remember how GM lowered prices a few months back? The charade of "value pricing" was truly…

So where's all the news about Toyota's recalls?! Instead the Detroit News reports that the big 3 market share is the worst ever. Why can't Toyota's bad news be on the front page?!! Please post your comments on this. GM is on their biggest turnaround, and are doing this faster than ever but for some reason everyone wants to pile on them-STILL. It seems GM can't do any right in the American medias eyes, yes I know there are some positive reports finally coming out, but the tide has not turned fully yet. Ford on the other hand...sorry guys I can't help you there! http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=AUTO01
