Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

Cadillac Ready for Right-Hand Drive CTS Production By Herb Shuldiner | Link to Original Article @ Wards Auto | Sep 26, 2007 9:17 AM NEW YORK – The strike late Monday morning by the United Auto Workers union is putting a crimp in General Motors Corp. plans to launch right-hand-drive Cadillac CTS production for export markets. The union called a nationwide strike at GM plants after it failed to reach a new contract with the auto maker in time to meet a self-imposed 11 a.m. deadline Monday. RHD versions of the new CTS, revamped for ’08, were to begin rolling down the line at GM’s Lansing, MI, assembly plant this week. Among markets slated to get the RHD models are Au…

Overall, they liked it a lot. The problems they encountered were... Stalling (reconnecting battery per incident was a temporary fix; bad engine control module was to blame) UltraView sunroof cracked (15,842 miles) Key and remote faulty (20,411 miles) Wobbly gearshift Interior rattles Squeaks from steering column Their complaints of the car itself were limited to the wide rocker panels, which hindered ingress/egress, visibility, trip computer, and interior quality. The cost to service/maintain it over 40K miles was $701, and they averaged 17 MPG, with a fuel cost of $5671. "All in all, our long-term SRX V-8's performance will help, not hurt, its cha…

With GM's announcement yesterday, we finally have concrete numbers on the ATS's weight. ATS 3.6 V6 = 3,456 lbs ATS 2.5 / 2.0T < 3,400 lbs Honestly, this is at the lowest end of the expect range for the V6 powered car and only about 100 lbs heavier than the 328i. It also means that with the same engine, the ATS is no heavier than the Delta II Verano -- that's no small feat. Given GM's porky track record, I expected the ATS to come in at about ~3,600 for the V6. This is excellent news. Given that the Small Block V8 is only 40 lbs heavier than the DOHC 3.6 V6, this opens up the possibility of a Pushrod V8 powered ATS-V at around 3,600 lbs and still under 3,700 l…

Jamie Lareau Automotive News June 8, 2009 - 12:01 am ET DETROIT -- General Motors wants to eliminate hundreds of Cadillac dealerships in metro markets to make the brand's per-store sales comparable with those of Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and BMW. In a dealer broadcast on Tuesday, June 2, GM sales chief Mark LaNeve said some Cadillac dealers might be surprised to learn they will be terminated by Oct. 31, 2010, said GM spokesman Pete Ternes. As part of the company's plan to winnow its dealership network, GM wants to align the number of Cadillac dealerships in major markets to those of its competitors. "Our current footprint of 1,400 Cadillac dealers, most of wh…

Wake up GM Yes! Now that I have your attention, lets help General Motors wake up and get its act right. Being a Cadillac enthusiast I am disillusioned as to why GM would build and market the Cadillac CTS to compete against the likes of the Mercedes C class, BMW 3 series, Audi A4, Volvo S60, Infiniti G35 etc and yet not offer a feature that can be found in ALL these competing brands: an all wheel drive option. Yikes! GM are you serious about designing cars with consumers in mind? Well, hopefully you’ll get the message loud and clear when consumers keep trading in their CTS’s for the competition leaving the CTS to have a natural death. Long live the CTS…long live the con…

I see that the current Mercedes S-class has ambient lighting on the front dash. The BMW 7 series has it on all four of their door panels and on the floor of the rear compartment. I wonder if Cadillac plans to follow with something similar. Not that its important, but I just think it looks cool!

Its been a few months since we heard anything about the upcoming Cadillac XT5, the replacement for the SRX crossover. But the folks at Automobile Magazine got their hands on some new spy shots of the XT5 undergoing cold weather testing. As we have previously reported, the XT5 will utilize the upcoming C1XX - Chi platform. Judging from the new spy shots, it looks like the XT5 will keep the slanted grille, but it looks like it will get stacked LED lights. It also appears XT5's profile will become somewhat shorter, but grow in terms of interior space. Powertrains are expected to be the 2.0L turbo-four and 3.6L V6, while front and all-wheel drive will handle getting that po…

Cadillac has been one of the few brands at General Motors to mostly avoid the Ignition Switch recall drama, but that doesn't mean they have their own set of problems. The brand has seen sales slip 2.2 percent within the first five months of this year, a bit surprising considering the luxury market is booming. “The brand has not grown as well this year as it did last year. They do have a greatly improved product line, but they need to have that produce results. They need to connect more with the consumer,” said IHS Automotive analyst Tom Libby. Not helping matters is the question of who leading Cadillac at the moment. Bob Ferguson, Cadillac's global chief and former lobb…

with the new tt coming out, bmw with their z4 and mercedes with their small sports coupe, why shouldn't caddy fill a gap in their line up with a kappa car of their own... i'm no good at photoshop but it's not hard to imagine. they would have to add some new caddy style like the vents from the cts and they should keep it a soft top but stretch it a bit or redesign it a little to give it a bit more useable trunk space. either two turbo models or take the new line of v6s from the cts. just take the front and back from the 16 and put it on a sky. even the front of the 16 has a lower grill for the intercooler for the turbo: i would also like to see the xlr get mo…

Appears GM is serious about improving their dealerships. This particular dealer was good sales/service, but crummy facility and location. These guys started with Olds in the 40s I think...however, they've also had Honda, Subaru, etc since the 70s... NEW BRITAIN, Connecticut - Schaller Auto World has sold its last Cadillac and Chevrolet. General Motors has pulled out of Schaller after the dealer's failure to acquire the VFW property on Veterans Drive. Art Schaller Jr. told The Herald his inventory of Chevrolets and Cadillacs has been sold, many of the vehicles back to the company. A Cadillac spokesperson has confirmed to Car and Driver that the upcoming Cadillac Escalade iQ will eventually also be built in a long-wheelbase form called the Escalade iQL. The Escalade iQ wheelbase already spans 136.2 inches, roughly 15 inches longer than the standard wheelbase Escalade ICE. The overall length of the Escalade iQ clocks in at 224.3 inches, just 2.7 inches shorter than the long wheelbase ICE Escalade ESV and over a foot longer than the standard Escalade. Cadillac need not look far to find the long wheelbase components; the Chevrolet Silverado EV on the same platform rides on a 145.7-inch wheelbase with an overall length of 233.1 inches. Cadi…

Cadillac's president isn't planning to cut prices to reverse the trend of slumping sales for the brand. "We cannot deny the fact that we are leaving behind our traditional customer base. It will take several years before a sufficiently large part of the audience who until now have been concentrating on the German brands will find us in their consideration set," said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen in a interview with Automotive News. "Either you have to bring your volume aspirations into alignment with reality and accept that you will sell fewer cars. Or you have to drop the price and continue to transact at the prices where you were historically. I think the logic…

I hit the show yesterday - new venue right in the heart of the South End of Boston (Southie for those in the area.) This new facility was a great improvement over the old one. Much more room. I have to say, sitting in the CTS there really gets the adrenaline going. I was struck by the size seeming much smaller than I expected given the chatter I've seen in the press about it being a 5-series size car - I didn't find this to be the case. In fact I actually liked the size of the STS-V they had on display (this is one sweet car by for $80k I'd have to think hard about it.) Really depends on the primary purpose of the car. Certainly as a personal driving machine the CTS si…

Anyone want to take a gander at how many Cadillac ELRs are sitting on dealers? 100? 200? 500? Try 1,688 ELRs. According to Autodata, Cadillac dealers at the end of April had 1,688 ELRs or a 719 day supply. To help reduce the stock, Cadillac is offering their dealers a bit of an incentive. The Wall Street Journal reports that Cadillac is offering dealers up to $5,000 for those who offer test drives of the ELR this and next month to consumers. To qualify, a ELR demo vehicle must have a minimum of 750 miles and be logged by a dealer. There's an added incentive of $2,000 for every ELR sold in July, and $1,000 in August. "For many drivers, electrification is still foreign to …

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,172324,00.html One of the most famous examples of such an odd association in recent years is Cadillac’s use of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” which debuted during the Super Bowl in 2002 and has been used in over a dozen commercials for the car since. Lisa Pottger of New York, N.Y., said these ads in particular turn her off. "I get all nostalgic, then annoyed," she said. The association was, of course, a calculated move. Cadillac was able to change the perception of the "Caddy" from your grandparents’ embarrassingly large boat of a car to the modern, sophisticated power machine that the engine warrants. “…

As part of their ambitions to compete with European automakers on their home soil, Cadillac was working on a range of four- and six-cylinder diesel engines. According to Automotive News, the upcoming XT4 was expected to have a diesel engine by 2020 and other models would follow. There was also plans about selling diesels for Cadillacs in the U.S. But Cadillac President Steve Carlisle said development has been put on hold. 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe Full Test Link We all make our own fashion choices. Neckties, tiger-print parachute pants, 4-inch heels, body piercings or tattoo art (hopefully not as an ensemble). Sometimes it's painful to be a conforming nonconformist. Sometimes it's better to buy a sport sedan. What does this have to do with the arrival of the two-door 2011 Cadillac CTS Performance Coupe? It's about fashion. The kind of fashion that comes at the expense of comfort, utility or functionality — or simply being able to pass through an airport metal detector without setting off the alarm. If Style Is Everything and Function Is Nothing... Then our rear-wheel-drive 2011…

Does anyone have a link to this Cadillac commercial from 2002? It was the one that had a very surreal feel to it that showed some of Cadillac's classics in black and white along with period personalities like Ali. This was all before the Led Zep "Breakthrough" stuff. I think it was actually called "Dreams," but I'm not certain. Probably the best Cadillac commercial in recent years.

I am looking to replace my 200S soon and have been seriously considering a used ATS or CTS. I almost pulled the trigger on a CTS V-sport a couple of months ago but didn't and now the used prices on all CTS's (not just V-sport) seem to have rebounded since then. Good for Cadillac that they found bottom and are climbing again but bad for me. Sooo... after driving this 2016 ATS Luxury 2.0T and mentioning to the salesman about the CTS, when I got back to the dealership after the test drive he started talking to me about leasing a "new" courtesy vehicle with 4-5k miles on it already that would count against the lease. Cadillac: Small crossover is coming, but no small car Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am BLS: The next generation of the small sedan (on sale in Europe since April) had been under consideration as an entry-level convertible and coupe in the United States, positioned below the CTS. But it turns out the "baby Cadillac" will have no future here. The vehicle's price would be too close to the larger CTS. The BLS is assembled in Trollhattan, Sweden, on the front-wheel-drive Epsilon platform it shares with the Saab 9-3. A station wagon is expected to be added in Europe in mid-2007. The brand's average transaction price has risen 25 percent in the last five years to $54,488 per vehicle sold in 2017 — making it among the best in the luxury segment, which last year averaged $48,752, according to J.D. Power and Associates. Cadillac's pricing gains reflect in part a smaller volume base, coming amid a 14 percent decline in U.S. sales since 2013. Still, they offer some validation for the strategy espoused by brand President Johan de Nysschen, who has been steadfast in stressing the brand's global long-term health over near-term volume and market share gains in the U.S. A big element of that strategy is Project Pinnacle, a retail program intended …

I just skimmed through my copy of Consumer Reports last night and I saw a real nice photo of a CTS. CR tested entry level luxury cars in their most recent issue. The first page of the review where they put the overall ratings, Consumer Reports decided to write this half page long caveat about how great the Cadillac is and other recent GM offerings, but how poor the reliability is on GM cars. The score for the CTS puts it in second behind an Infiniti but the CTS has the worst reliability out of all the cars in the entry level luxury class. The primary complaints that make the car way below average are "squeaky brakes" and "squeeks and rattles in the interior."

The Academy is based at Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club near Las Vegas, Nevada. The course "is designed for drivers of all experience levels and includes dynamic car control exercises, visual skill development, and proper cornering techniques." There will also be time in the classroom to explain various things. We'll admit Cadillac's V-Performance Academy …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 12, 2012 When the first-generation Cadillac CTS debuted in 2002, it premiered the Art & Science design language with crisp lines and sharp edges. Ask GM design chief Ed Welburn what he thinks of it and this is what he would say, "It had a dramatic presence, very angular. But when you really look at it, the surfacing of the body was not very sophisticated at all," Welburn said to Automotive News. The second-generation CTS would add some sculpture that would smooth out the angular look while remaining as interesting as the first-gen model. So what's in store for the next-generation CTS? Welburn says the car…

In the 2009 model year, Cadillac should be releasing a crossover, smaller than the SRX, called the BRX. Along with that, the CTS gets a redesign. Along with the sedan, coupe and convertible versions are expected also, but later on. The SRX should be getting a redesign in the 2008 model year. A bit too 'boy-racer' for me, but I know there are plenty of fans of the look. If nothing else- the tinted headlight covers would go if it was mine; tinted covers always make a car look like a mole; no 'eyes'. Haven't seen performance stats on it yet, I believe it's in the final stages of development before release, so hopefully those will be forthcoming. Should scoot. Predator Performance is out of Pennsylvania. Basic specs: *427 CID 7.0 LITER C5R RACE BLOCK *806 HORSEPOWER @ 6400 RPM *756 LB / FT TORQUE @ 5100 RPM *COMP CAM HYDRAULIC ROLLER *TWIN P-1SC PROCHARGERS *CUSTOM FABRICATED INTERCOOLER *CUSTOM FABRICATED TWO PASS RADIATOR *CUSTOM DIFFERENTIAL,…

Cadillac planning BLS-based entry-level station wagon for Europe By HARALD HAMPRECHT | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 02/01/06, 4:46 pm et Cadillac will build a station wagon version of its European BLS entry-level sedan. General Motors' premium brand will start producing the BLS sedan next month at Saab's factory in Trollhattan, Sweden. Sales begin in March. Starting in mid-2007, a station-wagon version will be added to the line there, GM executives told Automobilwoche at the Detroit auto show this month. Automobilwoche is owned by Crain Communications Inc., which also owns Automotive News. "We are going to build a few thousand units of this version annu…

What Works: Wicked acceleration, very responsive handling, feels light on its feet, good ride quality, comfy seats. What Needs Work: Transmission feels sluggish and doesn't match revs on downshifts, fit and finish still behind competition, steering overboosted at low speeds, we can live without the rear spoiler. In light of the fatal crash involving a Tesla Model S and Autopilot back in May, automakers are reconsidering their plans for rolling out their autonomous technologies. General Motors was planning to introduce Super Cruise on the Cadillac CT6 sometime next year. But in light of Tesla crash, GM is rethinking their plans. “We aren’t putting a specific date on it,” said GM CEO Mary Barra at a cybersecurity conference. Officials told The Detroit Bureau later on that the feature would still appear next year. This would be corroborated by a Cadillac spokesman to Motor Trend. “Right now, the plan continues to be that we will introduce [super Cruise] in the Cadilla…

The replacement for the Cadillac SRX is expected to be shown this fall, possibly at the LA Auto Show. The Detroit News reports that the next SRX will likely be wearing the XT name, along with a number to designate where it stands in the lineup. Many analysts believe that the SRX replacement will be named the XT5. The SRX has proven to be a big seller for the brand since it moved to the front-wheel drive Theta platform. Last year, Cadillac moved 53,578 SRX models. But the model is getting long in the tooth. Sales so far this year have dropped 17.5 percent to 12,294 vehicles. "Cadillac's current SRX is one of the oldest products in the segment. The XT5 is part of Cadillac…

I don't think many people cared to look through the huge press releases when the Tahoe debuted, but there is some interesting info on the Escalade: The iconic design cues that made the Escalade a cultural phenomenon are enhanced with the 2007 model – cues that established a new design language for all Cadillac vehicles. The ’07 model also incorporates elements introduced on the landmark Sixteen concept vehicle. These elements include vertical headlamp housing with HID tri-segment lighting elements and new, stylish front fender vents. Escalade features a more prominent Cadillac wreath-and-crest emblem in the center of the traditional shield-shaped grille. It is …

Cadillac SRX Test date 24 January 2007 Price when new £29,895 What's new? Cadillac was uncharacteristically quick to the seven-seat crossover market. Its SRX was among the first examples of the species to go on sale in the UK back in late 2005. However, until now it's only been available in left-hand-drive form; as of March, you'll be able to get a proper right-hooker, and that's not the only improvement. What's it like? Firstly, huge advances have been made with the SRX in the quality of its cabin. Its fascia is now much more appealing to the eye and, covered in carefully-stitched leather and soft-touch plastics, it also feels better than almost any America…

" It's a golden autumn morning in rural upstate New York. Backpacked kids wait by mailboxes for the school bus. I'm driving through pockets of valley mist to New York state's most famous racing circuit, to witness the shakedown testing of a race car so top-secret, it's still wrapped in camouflage. After a 14-year absence, Cadillac is readying its return to endurance racing. The last time the American automaker competed in top-level prototype racing was 2002, when the ill-fated Northstar LMP finished 9th at Le Mans. Audi's dominant R8 prototype notched its third consecutive victory at the Circuit de la Sarthe that year. Wayne Taylor and Max Angelelli were co-driv…

Slow Caddys in Europe Brand cuts sales goals following weak sales By WIM OUDE WEERNINK | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Published 07/23/07, 5:05 pm et General Motors will sell fewer Cadillacs than expected in Europe by 2010. "We have reduced our sales targets for Cadillac in Europe to 10,000 units short term and eventually 15,000," GM Europe President Carl-Peter Forster told Automotive News Europe. In 2003, GM gave the Dutch dealer group Kroymans the exclusive Cadillac distribution rights for Europe. At that time, GM's sales target for the brand was 20,000 units by 2010. But sales have been weak - despite the addition of the BLS sedan, which was derived fr…

Driving a '54 Cadillac to Amelia Island Original Article -Click here for additional pics Starting out for Mexico, but ending up in Florida By Steven Cole Smith Email Date posted: 04-26-2007 It's impossible to believe that anyone ever raced the length of Mexico in a 1954 Cadillac Series 62 like this, hammering down narrow asphalt roads in the middle of nowhere at 100 mph, dodging small children and dogs in little villages over the course of 1,908 miles in five days. That's because we can barely back it out of its tight parking spot on the top floor of the concrete garage at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. We go back and forth, back and forth, back and…
