It's been a rough year......And this came as a major shock.... A good college buddy of mine was killed by a drunk driver early this morning.. Well, luckily the "curse" hasn't befell it, but head gasket woes have. I took it to the GM dealer the other day and went to pick it up today and found out that the #5 cylinder has moisture and coolant in it. This is bad timing because I go back to school in a week and they won't be able to to get it in for at least two weeks. Also, the GM dealer here is being bought out by the Ford dealer, so it may end up being serviced over at the Ford dealer costing more money due to higher labor costs there. The GM dealer will repair it for $800, and another place we checked can do it for $650-700. I will be buying a new car in May, so my options are either A) pour $800 into a c…

Baseball is in the last quarter of the season and it is shaping up to be a very close race to the post season with 18 teams being within seven games of their division lead. I'm a rabid Mets fan and am hoping to see my team make the playoffs for the second year in a row. So I'm looking to move out of my house and move to Henryville, PA to be with my gf I've been talking to for almost a year. I just noticed I have some tar/asphalt crap on my tire, it's probably about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide. We just had the parking lot refinished at work, and I'm pretty sure that's the culprit. I'm sad to say tonight that I've lost my grandfather to failure of the heart. He'd been in the hospital for six weeks and he had a Valve Replacement Surgery on the 15th of December. As it turns out something went wrong with a different part of the heart after the surgery and he had been on full life support. He began to peter out this evening and I had a Calculus Final at the university until 9PM, I arrived within enough time to say my final goodbyes to a man who has meant so much to me. Starting this off with my run I just made to Home Depot to get a few parts for my automatic water sprinkling system I am putting in. A brand-new, Paper window license plate only, Mercedes Blu Tec SUV parked next to my Escalade. WOW talk about Noisy with Clackity Clackity Clack and a weird diesel exhaust smell. Must be the Pee they use to clean up the toxic exhaust. Went in and got what I needed and on the way back to my auto, a brand new Ram Eco-Diesel. WOW, quiet, but talk about SMELLY! So as you guys saw, I've been trying to round up what's left of my old models, with the goal of trying to fix them and make them better than they were. This is something I've wanted to do for a while, and started with one of them, but lost some of the parts and haven't really progressed much. Since my car is at the shop and the Prizm is all clean, I've been pretty bored, so yesterday I decided to tackle one of my other old B-17's, this one a B-17F by Revell. It's not nearly as involved as another car. I'll eventually turn this: into a nice road bike. It's an Iron Horse Triumph Comp aluminum/carbon frame and fork, and it was a steal. The sad part is, getting this up and running will most likely involve dismantling my beloved restified Schwinn and retiring her if I can't find a cheap way to keep her complete. She served me well, finishing tied for 5th in a century ride two weeks ago. I'll probably ride the Schwinn through the summer and start hording the parts that I can't transfer over.

I was talking to my mom tonight, who is a 2nd grade teacher, and she was telling me about an episode at school today where a special needs kid starting throwing a tantrum. Under No Child Left Behind and Iowa state laws, special needs kids who would normally be in a special education classroom must be part of the regular classroom per inclusionary policies. It's something I'm thinking about obtaining. I know the market isn't exactly booming and bustling, but maybe there's still decent money in it. I need to do something during much more productive than doing odd jobs and failing at finding full-time work during this period of "downtime" I'm having while I figure out what course of action I should take during college. Well I just basicly got finished fixing my car, yes, long and strectched out project of new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, igniton module, and coil. hmmm. a month long project that can all be done in a couple hours. yesterday when I started it up I noted that it was very thoaty and really lound. I thought just a hole in the exhaust. Until I heard a horrible scraping noise leaving from a store parking lot. I ignored it until i pulled in my drive way. Once I get home look under my car and my whole exhaust system is hanging about a 1/2 inch off the ground. I got back from Montreal Tuesday afternoon after our flight was cancelled Monday evening due to hail in Chicago. It was a good time over there...I did a lot of walking and sightseeing. Anyway, here are some interesting observations I had while I was over there. Everybody dresses up all the time. Doesn't matter if it's Monday morning, Saturday night, or Sunday afternoon...they're always dressed to go out on the town. I have never seen a place where strip clubs are right next to shoe stores and family eateries. No more trans fats in NY has been approved by the Board of Health. Fat's All Folks Canola and other oils are going to be used instead now. Someone brought up an intersting point to me earlier regarding diabetics... Canola is a no-no...I havent really looked into it but diabetics are not supposed to consume canola because it is transformed into gluccose...
