For as long as I can recall, I've always dreamed of GM granting some of their fans one "wish"... and not just a free vehicle, but something along the lines of getting the chance, a'la Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory style, to see or do something that no one else in the public gets to do. So, let's play fantasy world (remain civil, please!) and post what your one wish would be from GM. This could be a fun exercise! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mine would be to have the opportunity to drive two GMC vehicles... the '56 GMC…

It's been more like two plus years now, but here is the story with the original intro... Almost exactly one year ago, a friend challenged me to answer a couple of questions. What you see below is one of them, followed by my answer. As you can see, I got a bit carried away. I may return to this someday as it took me in a new direction. Or not. -Camino ************************************************************** Allow yourself to assume the role of Dr. Frankenstein. I was out and about, and bought this for my son's birthday. That got me thinking about getting an RC car of my own. Maybe this 1:24 Chevy Wrangler (I laughed when I saw that on the website) or an FJ Cruiser/Hummer type off roader so I can play with it in the back yard. Toys R Us did have a couple cars that I'm interested in, one is a green Barracuda that looked pretty cool, the other is a Porsche 911 that is incredibly detailed, but $65 for something that I'm going to burn the motor out on then disassemble for fun seems like a waste. Wal-Mart did have a Hot Wheels BMW M6 on clearance, but I hate RC cars that only use AA batteries.

Some of you know i am doing some work on the political campaigns as security and other stuff. If with 3 other guys all in there early 20's. its comical because I'm old enough to be there Dad's. So they call me Pa. Well as a joke at the range today I bet that I could shoot better with my pistol than they can with there scoped rifles at 100 yards. If I won they would have to buy me a S&W 1911 .45 pistol because they complain my 9mm Browning wont cut the job anymore. It was close but a 3rd party counted the points and I came out ahead by 5 points. I said i would take them out to the bar and to forget about the bet. Well to my surprise when we meet up later they got me th…

As the new CEO was taking over, he asked the former chief if he could give him any advice. The outgoing CEO said he would leave something useful in the top drawer of the desk. On his first Monday at the helm, the new CEO opened the top drawer. There was a note and 3 envelopes, numbered 1 through 3. The instructions were to open the envelopes in order as a crisis in business would arise. The new CEO shoved the note and envelopes to the back of the drawer. Things ran smoothly for 6 to 8 months but then, sure enough, something went haywire and the CEO didn't know what to do. The board of directors wanted answers. He thought, "What the heck." and opened the first envelope…

While watching a new show on speed called pass time (which is very good) i have been introduced to a new form of drag racing. There have been a few electric cars come on the show. One was an electric powered s10 and the other was a pro comp rail style dragster with no less than 450 batteries and an electric motor that was the equivalent of 31 ci. Now being the big fan of big block power houses i am i totally underestimated these cars even though i am aware of an electric car on tv that i saw called "white Zombie" which consistently runs 11.5's. the pro comp style electric drag car ran if i recall correctly right at 9 maybe an 8.80. low and behold here are a few clips from…

I wanted to spruce up my desktop a little bit, so I made a GM wallpaper that is an optimistic look at where the company has been and where it's headed. It's sized for my monitor, which is widescreen (1280x1060 I think) but could probably be used on regular monitor dimensions if the "stretch to fit" option isn't selected. ~800x600 Full size image: http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/9645/gmbackground2vd8.jpg

Well, as most of you know, I'm part of Kettering University and, in order to stay a student, one must complete about 6 months of co-op with a company each year in addition to the same amount of schooling at the university. Well, today was a co-op fair and I was starting to lose hope on finding a job since this was my third co-op fair and I've been to about three interviews. Well, as I was leaving my dorm to head down to "the fair," I turned around realizing I had forgotten my belt. As I went to reach for my belt, I felt my phone vibrate and didn't recognize the number. I answered it anyway and it was my co-op manager telling me that a company that I had interviewed for w…

Weight gain means lower gas mileage: U.S. study Associated Press CHICAGO -- Want to spend less at the pump? Lose some weight. That's the implication of a new study that says Americans are burning nearly 1 billion more gallons of gasoline each year than they did in 1960 because of their expanding waistlines. Simply put, more weight in the car means lower gas mileage. Using recent gas prices of $2.20 a gallon, that translates to about $2.2 billion more spent on gas each year. "The bottom line is that our hunger for food and our hunger for oil are not independent. There is a relationship between the two," said University of Illinois researcher Sheldon Jacobson, a study c…

After a week of above average temperatures and a high of near 70 () yesterday, I'm now under a Winter Storm Warning. Crazy. It's Currently 39 degrees and raining lightly. The rain is forecast to mix with and change to snow overnight and continue throughout all of Friday and Friday night. The snowfall totals grow higher everytime I check the forecast. I was shocked to see a Winter Storm Watch up for my area when I woke up this morning. It really took me by surprise. I'm hearing 8 to 14" when all is said and done. The amount of sand and salt local road crews have used this year is insane. Trucks are already spreading salt in my neighborhood, even with light rai…

I am putting up this poll because I can't decide myself. I really want to do a project car and create something unique but cost comes into effect. I either want to do an 89 Dakota, 318 conversion but this would be a long term project to spread out the costs and badge it as a Dakota SUper Bee or Rumble Bee. I also may take that Aries I saw a while back or maybe the one in the junkyard for cheaper and drop in a 2.2L Turbo from a Shadow or Daytona. Intercoolers can be had for it as well. I really like the Aries idea to surprise people at the track if I can get it quite fast. There is a 10 second Reliant out there as well. 1989 Reliant "Relentless". A RWD K car has been done …

Well, after tooling about for a little over a year in the Buick, I see my GMAC coupons are telling me that I have 8 payments left..... So, considering that I have seen some rumblings about lease pull aheads, and assuming they will still be in effect in the next few months.... What ever shall I purchase this time?? My wish list before looking at the $$ deals, is a Camaro or pick up a G8 before they are gone. I wish the orange was still available on the G8. So, orange Camaro, with orange interior trim and black SS stripes, aqua blue Camaro with white SS stripes, stryker blue G8 or either car in the Sport Red tricoat. Thoughts? Other suggestions?

Whenever I hear that old chestnut describing a GMC pickup, I take it as a reference to a trusted friend, and I was glad to have my Sierra in the last few days. Sunday, my seven-year old wash machine quit with a tub full of soapy water. After going online and then checking everything I could think of, I decided it was time to head to Lowe's and buy a new washer and dryer (coincidentally, my mom's dryer quit at the same time). So off I went. I felt very good, being able to carry my new stuff home without depending on others. The hard part was getting the washer into the laundry room by myself (I ended up wheeling it in on my creeper, and boy was I sore the next day), b…

I was walking to my 12:40 class today when I noticed green clouds moving in a swirling motion. I got to my class just as the wind was starting to pick up and the rain was beginning. A few people were behind me and I tried holding the door open but the wind was so strong that it kept blowing shut. I figured it was just a really strong thunderstorm, but it turns out that a weak tornado touched down in the center of campus with 83 mph winds. Eight people were injured by falling tree branches. Lots of trees are down but there is minimal damage to buildings. People came into class completely soaked and covered in dirt since there was dirt from a construction site nearby …

I couldn't take a photo. I could see its grille from my driver's side outside mirror and it was moving briskly forward in the fast lane on a rainy freeway. It was circa a 1987 Mercury Cougar. Those were weird looking cars. Ok, the front is fairly tame But, then, it all turns into a $h!tshow! Maybe some kudos are in order for the bold move. You could get a V8, but entry-level power came from FoMoCo's version of the 3.8 liter V6. (The corresponding Ford T-bird of those same years was even more dowdy.) The car I saw was in excellent condition.

Not sure how you all spent your Saturday, but...I spent it trying to stop a friend from killing himself. Earlier this week, his wife asked him for a divorce. That was followed a day later by a half-hearted attempt on his own life. He has a large workshop/garage as part of his automotive business, could probably put 15 cars in there. He drove a modern car in there, turned it on and sat there for 4 hours. If anyone knew that modern cars run too clean to kill anyone it would be him, but he did it anyway. Basically he did it to get his wife to talk to him. The next day, Thursday afternoon, he made a post on Facebook describing everything that had happened so far that week. …

Ok, I was thinking a lot about this over this Labor Day weekend. While driving out of town, I stopped at a Ford dealership along I-5 to get a brochure. Interestingly enough, a salesman who had been a mechanic in dealership service departments since 1995 approached me. I explained I was NOT from the area and I was curious to see a new Taurus up close and get a brochure on both the Taurus and the Fusion. He was very courteous and understood I was on vacation, so he did not push at all. In fact, we talked for quite a while about car mechanics - the transition from cast iron to aluminum, the 3800, the Ford Duratech, electronic throttle control, variable valve timing an…

For the past few months I've been strongly considering getting a second job. At my current one, management keeps reducing the Pharmacy hours and since I'm on the bottom, I'm the one taking most of the hit. For a while there, when the one girl quit, I was getting near full time hours. I was happy about that despite still being stuck at my rather paltry wages. Now I'm down around half that and it's really not worth it for all the more I make. However, in 3 or 4 months, my benefits start. I don't want to give those up. So this is where a second job would come in, essentially giving me the hours I want and putting me over 40 hours a week. I could really use the extra income. …

The above video is all the reminder you should ever need to pay close attention to the signs posted on bridges all over the country informing motorists of their height. We're not quite sure where exactly this particular span is located, but it's 11' 8" height is a good bit lower than what seems to be typical. For this minor little engineering oversight, at least a handful of large trucks have been morphed into instant convertibles. Let's just hope that some of these drivers placed a check in the box for the optional insurance when renting their moving trucks. Thanks for the tip, Stephen! null - Watch more free videos Autoblog

I thought I'd give this Reatta for sale a free plug because I just feel bad for it... 1988 Buick Reatta - 63k - $7563 See, that car has been for sale at that dealership for over four years. I remember because I was showing it to a friend of mine shortly before I graduated high school in 2003. Back then, it had 62 and change on the clock and was listed at $10,000 even. I guess it accumulated ~500 miles from being moved back and forth between their two lots so much. Today, it was up in Palm Harbor again. I've seen it on eBay four times. I think they're still charging too much for it; $7500 seems pricey for a first-year Reatta hardtop in the all-too-common shade of red, …

Obviously, it's gotta be MiG. He's got the name, got the looks, and he's got the theatrics. He's no MICHAEL HUTCHENCE, or BO BICE even....(kidding, Bo has nothing on even the worst Rockstar contestant) "i.............wannabeinsideyourho-even" "i'm your VEE-HICK-YULE babay" Ah, you gotta get on Brooke's good side if you wanna win it all. Wait, that's not Brooke's best side he's working on! TURN AROUND, BROOKIE!!!! I did like Marty for awhile, and he's got THE LOOK, but he's kind of a BIG DULL DUD. Brandon was strange. JD is Canadian, so that's just wrong. Plus, he butchered suspicious minds. Only Elvis and Dwight Yoakam can do that song. …

I went out for a little bike ride to work off last nights cookout, I went on a gravel trail that I've been riding for years. Somehow I managed to wipe out, even better I did it about 4 miles from civilization. I scraped my knees and elbows and managed to not whack my head on anything, which is always a plus. But my bike took a fair bit of abuse. The rear derailleur is all jacked up and the brake cable snapped, so I had to ride 4 miles back to the car without being able to shift and without rear brakes. It was fantastic. Even better, it started pouring on the way back, so I got to do the last mile in the rain, which at least washed all the blood off.

Even though Olds has been dead for a few years now, I still feel like I see a ton of them on the roads. Today I was driving to work and had an Olds Alero in front of me and an Olds 88 behind me, with an Olds Cutlass a few cars ahead of me in the other lane. Did Olds really sell that many cars in its last few years? Or maybe it is just a regional thing; the former Buick-Olds-Cadillac dealer (now Bu/Cad/GMC) has a pretty large store and does a lot of business here.

I was a long-time member of this organization and a friend of the award's namesake. I thought that there was enough talented and intelligent people on this site that they could actually win the award. If you have any questions about the award or the organization sponsoring it, post it here and I'll answer them as best as I can (but I'm not on the awards committee, so sucking up to me won't help your chances). Also, you can visit the Society of Automotive Historians' website at www.autohistory.org. This is directly from the press release: INFORMATION ON THE 2009 STUDENT AWARD: In order to encourage research and writing effort among university students in the area of …

http://cbs4.com/local/Jorge.Pinon.energy.2.596732.html First paragraph of the article: Dur. The EV1 was NOT A SATURN, and WAS NOT BUILT BY SATURN. Its only connection to Saturn was that it was leased through their dealers. No Saturn badges, or anything. Why does it seem like no one ever gets this right? It was an awesome car in many ways, but it irks me when people cant get basic facts right. [/pet peeve]

So Thursday we had a family trip which involved taking the Grand Marquis and the Intrepid 2 hours from Lawrence, through Boston, to UMass Dartmouth to move my brother into his dorm, as he starts college Tuesday. The plan was to get at least 6 hours of sleep, but instead we spent it watching Batman Begins and packing. We went to sleep at about 2:30am and woke up at 4:30am to be there by 7:30am. We somehow did this, I in the GM and my girlfriend in the Intrepid. Then when we got there we had to wait an hour in a line of cars for our turn to unload, then move it to his dorm and help hims set it up. Then we had to do extra shopping for things he forgot/needed. There was als…

We have the what irks you in a Co-Worker, now lwets try another exercise and see what irks all of us with our bosses or as I sometimes call them "authority figures". My main one is a boss who throws a temper tantrum like a 2 year old when things dont go their way. I have a few of them. They have gotten better with me since they know I dont do things to cause such behavior. If you cant handle the pressure of the job then maybe you shouldnt do it. Simple as that. A boss that cant seem to make a simple decision is another thing that annoys me. Everyone has had one of these. So lets have it.

"Refinement does not equal longevity." Would you rather drive a purely silent appliance, or do you enjoy the feeling of machinery under you? I love to "throw the coal" to an entertaining mechanical symphony under the hood. Some people prefer to be far away from any hint of the oily bits. Which do you prefer? Why?

I cannot believe Mr. Stern is allowing this go on any longer. DULL SLOW BORING CRAPPY SPURS BASKETBALL. Tim Duncan is the most boring NBA star in history. The don't exactly play LEGAL ball. Robert Horry warms the bench all year so come playoff time he has legs to hit three pointers at key times. And other little tricks to piss people off. Who wants to watch 58-57 games? SPURS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!! DULL DULL DULL DULL DULL DULL DULL! I'd rather watch ocnblu in the wading pool! MY GOD THE SPURS SUCK! GO LEBRON!

Next-generation iPod Shuffle: 1 Gb (~240 songs), 8 hours battery. 1.6x1.1x0.46 inches, 0.55 ounces. CAD$90 / US$80. This thing is crazy small. I saw the pictures when I ordered it, but I still can't believe it now that it's here. It's got a clip on the back to clip in into your clothes, etc... I clip it into my work ID badge and hardly notice it's there. One thing I can't believe - the docking station loads all the data and charges the battery through the headphone jack! Oh, and just to be a smartass I ordered it with a message written on the back: "White headphones make you cool."

But it only has two wheels, so I haven't dry humped the badge, and I still think pushrods are t3h roxz0rs I know the pictures suck, but they were taken only a short time after it was rolled in. Front Rear It's an '06 R1200 RT. It belongs to my Dad, but I chipped in a bit so I can ride it if need be, plus he deserves a nice cruiser. In one picture, if you look hard, you'll see the wheel of his BMW from the 70's, which is currently a load-bearing device in our messy garage; however, it has all the parts to be restored.

This week, I wasn't able to attend the memorial service of an elderly woman I've known since 1978 ... when my grandparents moved to Batavia IL so my grandfather could pastor a church there. And, in a way, I'm glad I didn't go. Back in 1987, when my then best friend died, I was all about the memorial service. I felt the need to BE there ... and, I was. It was awesome hearing people talk about him ... and hearing stories about him that, sadly, I didn't know. I even found out that he didn't want me to know how bad his asthma was ... because of my own health issues. But, since then ... and especially in the last few years ... I've grown to dislike and not want to attend…

So yesterday, the day after my birthday and the day there's supposed to be a party with my friends started fine. I got up early for once, took a shower, and got ready to go to my only class on Fridays (which is only 50 minutes long). I get in the Intrepid with my new mp3 player, plug it in and off I go. Only about a mile from the house the Check Engine light comes on. I pull over immediately into the parking lot of a new apartment building that just went up. And turn the car off. The engine temp was reading normal, the oil levels were fine, and no ominous smoke or sounds were emitting from the engine bay. I reluctantly start the car back up, listen to it...and it sounds f…

Happy birthday, Mr. American Revolution 2005, since you pointed that out on my birthday thread. I don't know what that fetches in Canada, but I think it allows you to drive in most of the states down here in "the colonies." At any rate, have a great one! I'd put one of those bitchen' houses in your neighborhood in your combined birthday/Christmas stocking, but I don't think it would fit!

I've noticed this for years, but thought I'd pass it along for anyone who might be interested. If you are straight, young and cute, you can make a killing as a bartender working in a gay bar. I got to talking to a 25-year old guy (I mentioned I am a car nut, and he is too) who went to college, graduated with a degree in finance, yet enjoys far higher pay and better hours slinging drinks than he could in the finance racket. In fact, the whole bartending staff at this particular establishment (the Blue Moon in Rehoboth, DE) is straight. I'd say they're being very smart to use their good looks working a fun job, making lots of money toward a secure future. Thanks for …

Heard this song a couple of days ago on the radio. Im addicted to it!!! But, Im torn apart inside. I dont know how to handle it. Part of me thinks it screws up the original. Part of me thinks its a total botch job and does the original no justice. HOWEVER....the other part of me...the party animal side of me, the Greek part of me, the part of me where boys will always be boys no matter what age I am and damn it all to hell if Im a daddy...to a....10 year old girl....and she will grow up one day and hopefully will forgo all what transpires in that video and lyrics...but then again...its human nature...I cant stop her from becoming a woman... 2023 could not end soon enough. It seemed like people were freaking out about AI or trying to freak out others about AI. While the U.S. experienced low unemployment and falling inflation, American politics is almost beyond repair, with a dysfunctional do-nothing Congress and an ethically challenged Supreme Court. The previous occupant of the White House was charged with 91 felony counts. In the UK Charles III and Camilla were crowned king and queen. The submersible OceanGate Titan imploded in the sightseeing tour to the Titanic. The Ukraine war has no end in sight, with about a half million deaths so far, the majority being Russian troops. Hamas attacked Israel in…

I am digging on the style of the '63 1/2 Falcon Futura Scatback... so sleek, small and lithe with that low body and rakish roofline. Dear all. My better half LOVES Saab - and she is trying to find a suitable SUV to replace her aging (180k miles) Expedition. We recently found out that there is up to $7,000 rebate on the 9-7x, which puts the car SMACK in the middle of Explorer and Equinox price range. It also allows her to have the best of both worlds - an SUV that can tow and is a real BOF SUV and a Saab (she is a Texan - do not question her on her love for BOF ) We have been looking around and all the models available are the 4.2l I6 models ... but that engine is fine as far as reliability and such goes - I had the impression that it is a bulletproof and smooth engine ... anyone wants to weigh on…
