Fortwos come with luxury options like heated leather seats and power steering. The 8-foot, 8-inch Smart Fortwo micro car comes to U.S. shores in January, and even with gasoline prices well above the $3-a-gallon mark it remains to be seen whether Americans will flock to buy the tiny, two-seater car. Ranging in price from $11,590 for the base version to $16,590 for a fully loaded Fortwo Passion convertible, the 1,800-pound car boasts 40 miles per gallon — a big draw for drivers worried about high gas prices. Smart has already sold more than 770,000 Fortwos in 36 countries, and Smart USA is banking on robust sales in the United States. The Smarts on sale here will be made…

Nissan Motor,Japan's third-biggest automaker,is preparing to produce fuel effcient small vehicles for Chrysler, taking a different route to enhance its presence in the American market despite concern about a slowdown. The two auto firms are in the final stages of negotiation on a deal for Nissan to supply Chrysler with small cars models with an engine displacement of around 1.8 liters,Japanese broadcaster NHK reported on Thursday. The pact is expected to boost Nissan's sales in the U.S market, and to help Chrysler make a turnaround from its recent weakness, attributed in part to an overdependence on light truck sales, the report said.A Nissan spokeswoman confirmed the …

OK, I'm going to open up a big can of worms, but hey it's part of my charm, plus I have a big can opener. :AH-HA_wink: Would you support GM moving it's Global Headquarters to another region and out of North America, say to either GM Eruope's headquarters or GM Asia-Pacific's headquarters, this would help in taking away GM's stigma of being an American auto maker and truly make it a global company. This would be something akin to what Oldsmobile did, when it didn't put Oldsmobile on it's products. GM would be saying we are a Global company, by taking GM out of North America, so to speak. So what are your thoughts on it, would you support such a move?

http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog/?p=484 The Republican/Democrat duopoly has, for far too long, ignored the most important issues facing our nation. However, alternate candidates Chuck Baldwin, Cynthia McKinney, and Ralph Nader agree with Ron Paul on four key principles central to the health of our nation. These principles should be key in the considerations of every voter this November and in every election. We Agree Foreign Policy: The Iraq War must end as quickly as possible with removal of all our soldiers from the region. We must initiate the return of our soldiers from around the world, including Korea, Japan, Europe and the entire Middle East. We must c…

Holy cow has this summer kicked my ASS as far as concerts go. It all started about three months ago when I staged a "getaway" down south to catch Kid Rock in Tennesse, Atlanta, Georgia and one other southern state which name currently escapes me for some odd reason. After that it's been plenty of local shows. Jocaine (of course!) Papa Roach with/311 (left before ghey11 took the stage) and more Jocaine. Motley Crue was just a few short days ago and it was a blast. I think I may head to a few shows spontaniously (sp?) over the next few days and top it off with another JoCaine (Of course again!) show sometime early next week. Anybody else catch concer…

In August, I wrote about Anthony Graber, who was charged with "wiretapping" after posting a police encounter on YouTube. This week, Harford County Circuit Judge Emory A. Plitt, Jr. threw out the charge for wiretapping, saying there was no expectation of privacy in this case. "In this rapid information technology era in which we live, it is hard to imagine that either an offender or an officer would have any reasonable expectation of privacy with regard to what is said between them in a traffic stop on a public highway," Plitt wrote. ACLU attorney, David Rocah, one of the attorneys representing Graber said: "This ruling upholds the fundamental right to hold police acc…

Once in a while if there's nothing good on TV and Sofia wants to to watch some cartoons I'll throw in one of our several seasons of the Simpsons on DVD. After having watched the ENTIRE 4th season twice already in the past few months I decided to look at the special features last night... Funny stuff. For some fantasticly hillarious reason they decided to include the Kamp Krusty episode in the bonus features in several interesting languages. The two that caught my eye as interesting were Brazilian Portugese and Japanese. So I'm bored and I decide, why not.... I'll watch Kamp Krusty in Japanese. Just for the sheer hilarity. If for nothing else, Homer say…

Well this is a couple days old, but I didn't see it posted here.... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060221/ap_en_...c_guns_n__roses Axl Rose ended his hermit-like lifestyle by venturing out to a Korn tour launch party in Los Angeles and to trendy nightclubs for some post-birthday bashes (his 44th) in Manhattan. Asked at the Korn bash about "Chinese Democracy," which has been in the making for a decade, Rose told Rolling Stone.com that "people will hear music this year." The tracks leaked Wednesday take a different direction from Rose's traditional raunchy Sunset Strip-style rock. "Better" has emo/industrial touches mixed with Rose's trademark vocals and hard rock backdro…

Something came up today that, if it pans out, would mean a big change for me. Unfortunately, it would also mean an unpleasant commute inside the city limits of Philadelphia every day. I hate cities, but this could be worth the aggravation. So, I'm thinking that my Tahoe isn't the right beast for such a commute (should this happen). Pushing 200k and at 15 years old, asking it to do a high-traffic, 40 mile slog everyday doesn't seem advisible. It is very early to be thinking about this, but should it happen, a change will need to be made for daily driver purposes. I'm thinking small 4x4 pickup. But I'm not married to that idea in any way. Input?

If you could turn back time...... what concepts were left on the shelf that should have been productionized. You nominate vehicles in two ways. A concept that was close to production ready, but never made it into production A concept that was close to production ready, but the production version watered the concept down too much and lost all of the appeal the concept had. Any year, Any brand, as many nominations you want. If we get enough nominations in both 1 and 2, we may split the voting into both of those categories. Try and provide a short write up of why you think the concept is a compelling nomination... if you have a favorite picture of the concept car, …

This is mostly for the folks who grew up in the Baltimore-Philadelphia suburban zones in the '60s-'80s. Well, burned into the dark recesses of my childhood are trips to Ginos and Burger King, not McDonalds. Well, in the early '80s, Ginos were converted to Roy Rogers (which were left to dry up) and a major eating institution passed into the history. Well, apparently, no more. The popularity of places like Five Guys and Red Robin have demonstrated that there is a market for upscale burger restaurants, and many of the original Ginos people are putting together a new Ginos chain. Apparently, the first location was opened in King of Prussia, PA in late 2010, to quite a…

So for whatever reason I was daydreaming the other day and started wondering what gives certain cars their distinctive exhaust note. Is it the muffler only or the engine, or all sorts of things? Now before I get flamed terribly, I have installed and/or have been around cars with full turbo-back exhaust systems, cat-back systems, and just universal mufflers on them. I see how they completely change the exhaust note. But the muffler from a V8 car put on a 4-cyl, isn't alone going to make the 4cyl sound like that V8. So the engine has to be a part of it as well as the pipe diameter. Take for instance Pontiac...there is a distinctive sound that a Pontiac makes(thinki…

I'm hoping someone on here is into computers and can help. I want to check out GMC and Buick's websites and since they have something being run thru Quicktime, my computer will not show it. All I get is the little Quicktime symbol...the little film real clip with a 'Q' in the center. I'm certain this is a simple adjustment needed to my computer settings, but I have no idea. I checked my internet settings and don't see anything listed for Quicktime, but all but 1 item was checked off under multimedia. The wierd thing is I have been able to watch other Quicktime movies on this computer. Why does it seem to hang up on the GMC and Buick?

It seemed like a headache, nothing more. But when pain killers and a trip to the emergency room didn't fix Aaron Evans, the 14-year-old asked his dad if he was going to die. "No, no," David Evans remembers saying. "We didn't know. And here I am: I come home and I'm burying him." What was bothering Aaron was an amoeba, a microscopic organism called Naegleria fowleri that attacks the body through the nasal cavity, quickly eating its way to the brain. The doctors said he probably picked it up a week before while swimming in the balmy shallows of Lake Havasu. Such attacks are extremely rare, though some health officials have put their communities on high alert, telling peo…

I'm sure there are a lot of you out in C&G land who own one of these systems, and have maybe even played all of them. I'm not a real serious gamer anymore, but I would like to get back into the scene. The Wii's price and ability to play old Nintendo games is definitely a plus, but the graphics aren't even in the same ball park as the others. With a big HDTV to play on, it seems like almost a waste to not go HD. The Wii just looks like a lot of fun. The PS3 is a lot more expensive but has Bluray, which makes it justifiable. I have never played one though, so I can't compare it to the 360. From what I have played the 360, it is impressive, and the price is a l…

You have to pick TWO car manufacturers: ONE is your favorite, the one you will most likely buy a vehicle from and the SECOND is your least favorite, one that you are least likely to buy from. 2. Pick TWO vehicles from EACH car manufacturer: daily driver and fun/weekend/utility car or truck. Please be honest in your choices to make it harder and more fun.

From Bill Vance of Canadian Driver: July 18, 2007 Motoring Memories: Hardtop convertibles Story and photo by Bill Vance Although true hardtop convertibles are becoming popular now, there were a few earlier attempts that weren't so successful. In the beginning, virtually all cars were convertibles, most descended from open carriages and buggies. Rudimentary canvas tops were normal as carmakers were more concerned with mechanical reliability than passenger protection - and automobiles were rarely operated in the winter anyway. As reliability improved and cars were used year-round there was increased interest in weather protection. Enclosed cars gradually ev…

City living can be rough on a car. Parking by feel, heavy traffic, stop&go, pot holes, manhole covers, etc., can age a car quickly. Which new car would you nominate as C&G's Best City Car, 2006?

Since I've rehooked up my stereo surround sound I've been on a movie trip. I did go rent two movies that I have never seen, that being "Waiting" featuring my favorite actor Ryan Reynolds. Then, naturally I had to get a Nick Cage movie which was "God Of War" Now, I'm about 3o minutes into Team America World Police which I just love this movie about as much as Van Wilder. Any movies you absolutely must watch when you sit down to catch a movie, or do you ever find yourself going on "movie binges" of one after another after another?

I'm trying to access another forum and I all I have been getting constantly is one of these dip$h! messages. I know the site isn't having server problems. Plenty of other users I have briefly talked to told me they are not having problems and so on. I've tried many different adjustments, etc., and I'm getting really sick of the aggravation. Got any advice?

"What does YellowJacket drive, I wonder...?" Oh, I know the question bugs you. Especially since I mention it here time to time. Is that a hint? It should be. What's that? Huh? You want to see the whole damn truck and not just a snippit of a badge? Alright then... That's it. That's what I'm forced to drive right now. Technically, it's my dad's truck. A 1999 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab with four-wheel-drive; fully optioned except for an on-board compass (it does have an overhead console, though) and leather...if that was even an option on this truck. It has the infamous 318 Magnum V-8 -- which, by the way, 1999 was the last year for that engine in the 'Kota -- and t…

Well, it's 10:07 PM Central time here and I'm still at work because the damn plotter has been finicky (sp?) all night. I mean, I'm being paid to be here...but I don't want to be here. Argh...is it just me, or does technology sometimes seem like a step backward? I don't know how many hours of my life I have wasted waiting/trying to get things to print here and at college. I wonder what the average number of hours (or years) a person spends waiting on printers to print? Anyone else have problems with things not working properly at their workplace?

<iframe width="420" height="315" src=" http://www.youtube.com/embed/k9hEJHhw9hA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The stupidity displayed in the video above leaves me with my palm on my face, snickering and almost speechless. Yes, that horrific clank of metal tearing through metal at the end of the video was a driveshaft jack-knifing it's way through the floorpan of a V6 2011 Mustang, effectively disemboweling the car. Yes, the driver was obviously exceeding the limits of his car and stupidly modified it to do so. Yes, the driver thinks that, just because his V6 Mustang packs three-hundred-and-some-odd horsepower, he drives an Autobahn-smashing s…

http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/crime/6-bmws-stolen-from-darien-dealership#.UDlbVcFlRL5 You know it wasn't any one of us here behind the crime...or the text would have read...Six well used GMC 4WD work trucks stolen from landscaping company.... But don't worry, the vehiclew WILL show up. Modern BMW's seldom go very long without needing a trip back to the dealer. And five of the vehicles stolen were BMW SUV's. Seeing that these are X5's and X6's, my only request is this..please come into our country and steal the rest...quickly.

Folks, riding on the recent Hummer’s success in the Dakar Rally, I want to take team GM a step further. I have always felt that our pickups are very capable off-roading machines. Just look at those Southern boys lift their pickups to form a formidable off-roader or how the Midwesterners haul the stuff with their four-wheel drives or how the hillbillies like to have mud on their tires of their trucks. As some of you know P-D Rally is where vehicles with steel balls survive, and I definitely think our pickups have more than steel balls. I want us Cheersandgears.com folks to enter two GMT 900 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Duramax Diesels for the Paris-Dakar Rally of 2008. I k…

Well, I got a major surprise today. My brakes went out on me-during the lunch rush..... Lucky for me I made a turn down a side street to avoid a traffic back up. Everything had been fine all day-but when the wagon hit the first stop sign- I didn't stop-and just missed avoiding a person backing out of their driveway- I just about had a heart attack. After getting it to stop (it had a little stopping power left after that), I limped it to my folks house. (where I was on my way to) I came out and checked it a few minutes later-and there was a small puddle and fluid all over my passenger tire I had it towed away to the local shop...and my guess I either lost the h…

Know what replaced our G6 just today? Go on. Guess. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Well, here's a clue. It's got four-doors. It's red. And a blue Camry was setting in front of the dealership that we bought it from. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done guessing yet? Yes? Okay, good. You want to know what it is? You sure? Absolutely positive? Well, okay then. The one and only 2007 North American Car of the Year: the 2007 Saturn Aura XE V6 in Berry Red Metallic. I'll have photos as soon as I get my hands around a decent camera. So why did we get rid of our G6? It was a bad car, right? Nope. Not at all. That is, if it hadn't been in an…

I am a regular life long season pass holder for Stevens pass washington for skiing, but years ago I started to dabble in Mountain biking and have to say it is crazy fun and can be just as challenging as skiing. A monster adrenaline rush. Stevens Pass https://www.stevenspass.com/site They opened up a few weeks back a new Double Black Diamond Trail call Berserker and I have to say I will wait after having actually gone on it slowly. Way crazy as this video does not do it justice for how steep it really is. I am excited about all the new ski trails and ramps making new jumps we will have this winter. So does anyone else Mountain Bike?

...that might surprise others. As a kid, I remember feeling that interest in music was a "one genre only" type of thing because so many people I knew were either anti-rock or anti-country ... and didn't really have much of a "crossover" experience. But, in the last few years or so, more and more people tend to have an eclectic taste in music, myself included. I can't stand to leave the radio station on one station all the time; too much music is out there (old and new) that I like and want to be hearing.... This is because my musical interests have grown ten fold (or so it seems) over the last few years, with "exposure" to all types of music, more than just country …

Well, The company I was working for went belly-up.......so I've been back on the job market. Ironically, one of my closest friends (who has owned his own dealerships before, and ran a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz store here in Orange County) has moved recently to Las Vegas and is running a Cadillac dealership there.....and he wants me to come work for him and build and run his internet sales department! This could be a great opportunity, I'd be working for a Caddy store, with one of my closest friends (whom I've worked for before at Irvine BMW....so we know we work really well together) and it would be a fun career change. What do you guys think? I'd keep my condo her…

So here i am, 1 month away from graduating High School... Scary. A few months ago i applied to Adelphi University, for Criminal Justice... they told me at the time i was getting a scholarship for my academics, but didnt tell me how much. Tuition + fees comes to $24,000 a year, and without winning the lottery, there would be no way i could go. I applied for every financial aid i could, and since my family is pretty poor, i hoped that would help. Welllllllllllllllllllllll i just got the letter a few days ago... $13,000 from Adelphi for Academics $1,500 from a Federal SOEG Grant $5000 From NYS Tuition Assistance Program $4,750 from Federal Pell Grant grand tota…

Has it been 7 years already? I remember I was in NYC at The GM building in Manhattan that day. I can remember how blue the sky was , the smell in the air after the attacks and the dust that seem to envelop all of Manhattan as time wore on. I remember the constant whine of sirens as emergency vehicles raced to and fro. Has it been 7 years already, to me it seems like yesterday and I will never forget that day ever. I remember how hard it was to get out of Manhattan, how the cell phones didn't work and the internet came to a grinding halt, no way to let my family know I was ok, and that I was not affected, but who am I kidding, we were all affected, and the United States wi…

I took the LaCrosse in for an oil change at the dealership on Saturday...based on time, not miles. I always seem to wind up talking to service advisors. For one thing, I seem to "file away" their comments and opinions on cars, maintenance, reputations, etc. This weekend, at the Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealership, I saw a used 2007 MC within viewing distance as he was writing up my LOF work ticket and I told him the decision process I went through in deciding on th Buick over the Chevy. He told me that it was a good choice, but that their experience with VVT has been virtually problem-free, but that the 3800s almost NEVER come back for anything. I then went into the showr…

[source: MSN Money] The US-China Ponzi scheme By unwittingly tying together their fortunes as they pursued their own interests, the 2 nations have put themselves on an economic path of mutually assured destruction. By Jon Markman MSN Money Imagine becoming so successful at your job that you stack up $2 trillion in income, which you conservatively place in short-term U.S. Treasury bonds for safekeeping. Now imagine that when you try to cash in those bonds to buy a few things for your kids, the clerk at the bank abruptly shuts her window and tells you to go away. That is essentially the situation faced by China these d…

Can you figure this out? Although is it a very old video, I thought maybe we could have some fun with this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSLBtm__aKw Now the YouTube video is of lower quality (that's hard to manage) than the original which is hosted at TruTV's website. The original video makes a fairly significant difference in telling what exactly is going on. If you watch the original you can see that there is more chainlink fence to the right, unlike what some people have concluded: http://www.trutv.com/top5/2009/hot_pursuit/1-infamous-ghost-car-hot-pursuit.html Regardless of what we can actually conclude, creep yourself out with the following screen cap of the d…

Got boned for $1,000. The rear right tire of the BMW had a small leak so I took it to Discount Tires. While inspecting the tires, the store personnel saw a 12-inch gash in the interior wall of the front left tire going into the steel reinforcement. I have no idea how that happened. The Bridgestone run flat that came with the car was $389 per tire, and the GoodYear F1 All Season was $201 per tire, so I decided to replace both fronts since, I hated the ride of the run flats anyways. Plus GoodYears come with 25,000 miles warranty. Yay for Z-rated tires I guess! I went for lunch while they replaced the front tires and fixed the rear right. The guy calls me saying you need t…

I took my truck in to my selling dealer on July 9th for its first oil change and a warranty concern. Intermittently I had to fasten and refasten my seatbelt about 4 times to get the light in the dash to go out. Obviously, the problem was in the switch in the buckle. Here's how that went: The dealership is in a small town about 10 miles away. I was on vacation, so I waited and browsed the lot while they did their thing. A couple of customers (old guys retired) were hanging out bs ing with the techs in their bays while they worked. I was in and out, didn't want to crowd the tech working on my truck as I know they don't appreciate being watched by customers who may no…
