Ford has ripped off the sheet of the next-generation Fiesta ST that will make its official debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show. The big news is what lies under the ST's hood. A new 1.5L EcoBoost three-cylinder produces 197 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque. This is a noticeable increase from the current Fiesta ST sold in Europe as it only produces 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque from a 1.6L EcoBoost four. Paired with a six-speed manual, the Fiesta ST hits 60 mph in 6.7 seconds - 0.2 seconds faster than the outgoing model. The new three-cylinder also comes with cylinder-deactivation. Under light loads, the engine can run on ju…

Meet the most powerful Porsche Panamera - the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. Using a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V-8 (550 horsepower) and electric motor (136 horsepower), the Turbo S E-Hybrid boasts a total output of 680 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque. 0-60 mph takes only 3.2 seconds and the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid will hit a top speed of 192 mph. The E-Hybrid comes with a 14.1kilowatt lithium-ion battery pack to provide juice for the electric motor, and allows the model to travel up to 31 miles on electric power only. Porsche says the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid's battery can recharge in under 12 hours when plugged into a 120V outlet, or less than 3 hours usi…

Subaru felt it was time to give the XV Crosstrek a makeover. The end result made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show as the XV (the U.S. version will be known as the Crosstrek). The big news for the XV/Crosstrek is Subaru's modular platform. First making its debut in the new Impreza, the new platform gives the XV a 70 percent increase in overall rigidity. Subaru says this helps give the XV improved driving dynamics and makes it much safer in the event of an accident. Subaru has also made the XV a bit more capable when it comes to the rough stuff by adding hill descent control and X-Mode that optimizes the engine, all-wheel drive system, and brakes to improve tract…

The XC60 crossover is an important vehicle for Volvo. Despite being one of the oldest models in the lineup, the XC60 made up 30 percent of Volvo's total global sales last year. Getting the second-generation XC60 right is a big deal and it seems Volvo may have pulled it off. Making its global debut today at the Geneva Motor Show, the 2018 XC60 is the first model of the revamped 60 series lineup. At first glance, you might think Volvo's design team just used the reduce function on the copy machine since it looks like a scaled-down XC90. But Volvo's designers did make some small changes to have the XC60 stand apart from its bigger brother. The XC60 has a lower front end …

Next week would have been the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland, home to debuts of lavish super and luxury cars. But organizers of the show announced yesterday that the show is canceled after the Swiss government announced that it would be banning gathering of more than 1,000 people due to Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak. "We regret to announce the 2020 Geneva motor show will be canceled. This is force majeure," said a spokesman for the Palexpo show venue. "The show cannot be postponed. It's not possible. It's too big. It's not feasible." "We regret this situation, but the health of all participants is our and our exhibitors' top priority. This is a case of force…

Next month at the Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover will unveil the newest member of the Range Rover family. Called the Velar, the model will slot between the Range Rover Evoque and Sport models. Rumor has it that Velar will look somewhat similar to the Sport with a more rakish roofline. It is also speculated that the Velar will use the underpinnings of the Jaguar F-Pace. "We call the Velar the avant garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything," said Land Rover's chief design officer, Gerry McGovern in a press release. If you're wondering about Velar, it is derived from the Ital…

Audi is showing its expanded range of plug-in hybrids at the Geneva Auto Show next month in Switzerland. The models gaining the new plug-in variant are the A6, A7, A8, and Q5. The heart of the new Plug-In hybrids is a new 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery that offers up to 40 KM (25 miles) of electric only range. When battery power is exhausted, the turbo direct-injected gasoline engine kicks on. Energy recuperation is split into 3 modes. Light deceleration is managed by the electric motor, medium deceleration is a combination of electric motor and the hydraulic brake system, heavy deceleration over 0.4 g is handled entirely by the brakes. The hybrid side of the braking…

Power comes from a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine producing 408 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. The power goes through a seven speed S-Tronic dual clutch gearbox and heads to the wheels via Audi's quattro system. The 0-60 time is around 4.6 seconds and top speed is…

Citroen DS3 Inside concept leaks out before Geneva debut Citroen announced plans earlier this week to revive the DS nameplate for a line of mid-range premium models based on the new C3, C4 and C5. Germany's AutoBild decided the world couldn't wait for the Geneva Motor Show debut of the Citroen DS3, and published a few images of the concept a few weeks early. What you see here is more than just a styling exercise. According to early reports, the concept, which is officially called the DS3 Inside, is very close to the production version due to arrive in Europe as a 2010 model. With underpinnings pulled from the new C3, Citroen is likely to offer a range of gasoline a…

According to Fredrik Arp, president and CEO of Volvo Cars, the 2009 Volvo XC60 is not only the safest Volvo ever, "It's also the most stunning." Of course, he's paid big bucks to say stuff like that, but the fact that he's mentioning design at all shows just how important the look of the XC60 is to its success. Geneva 2009: Aston Martin revives Lagonda to questionable effect Comebacks are a tough racket, so when Aston Martin announced plans to revive the Lagonda nameplate, we tempered our high hopes with a fair amount of skepticism. Perhaps that's a good thing. These first images of the Lagonda caused a collective sigh from the Autoblog crew here in Geneva, perhaps largely because it takes the form of a crossover – something we weren't really expecting (and something we don't typically associate with either Lagonda or Aston). The Lagonda's return marks the 100th anniversary of the brand, best known for stately sedans and luxurious grand-tourers. Aston wanted an outlet to…

While SUVs and crossovers are dominating the headlines, automakers are continuing to update or introduce new sedans. Case in point is the 2019 Audi A6 which made its debut yesterday. The A6's design borrows a lot of from the recently redesigned A7 and A8. Up front resides a wider grille, large bumper vents, slimmer headlights, and sculpting on the hood. The side profile mostly mimics the A7 with a lower roofline and distinctive character line. Around back is the same trunk lid design and taillight setup as seen on the A8. Overall dimensions have increased very slightly - 0.3 inches longer, 0.5 inches wider, and 0.1 inch taller. Inside, the A6 mimics the A7 and A8 …

It seems we have been talking about Bentley's first plug-in hybrid for a number of years. But on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, Bentley finally revealed the 2019 Bentayga plug-in hybrid. Instead of using a turbo V8 or W12, the plug-in utilizes a turbocharged 3.0L V6 engine paired with an electric motor. Bentley isn't revealing power figures or how big the battery is. but they do reveal the Bentayga can travel up to 31 miles on a full charge (based on the European testing cycle). There will be three driving modes specific to the hybrid - EV Drive, Hybrid, and Hold. When it comes to recharging the Bentayga plug-in hybrid, Bentley says it will take 2.5 hours when …

Various luxury automakers have taken Tesla as a serious threat and are working on models to take on the start-up. The first automaker out of the gate is Jaguar which premiered the production version in Graz, Austria today. This is quick turnaround considering we only saw the concept at the 2016 LA Auto Show. Let's talk about the I-Pace's heart. Jaguar has installed two electric motors (one on each axle) producing 294 kilowatts (394 horsepower) and 512 pound-feet of torque. 0-60 mph is said to take 4.5 seconds. A 90-kWh lithium-ion battery pack is estimated to provide a range of 240 miles between charges. Plugged into a 100kW DC fast charger, the I-Pace can go fro…

Lexus' crossover lineup has a new family member in the form of the UX. We've already given some details on the exterior last week, but now we have details on the rest of the vehicle. The UX is the first Lexus model that is underpinned by Toyota's GA-C (Global Architecture-Compact). This platform, which also underpins the Toyota C-HR, promises to have lowest center of gravity in the class. The UX 200 uses a new 2.0L Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine that is said to improve thermal efficiency by 40 percent. This in turn means better fuel economy. Horsepower is rated at 168. A new Direct Shift CVT uses an additional gearset to make acceleration feel more linear and …

A few weeks ago, Mercedes-Benz announced a mid-cycle refresh for the base C-Class sedan, but not for the AMG variants. It seemed Mercedes was holding back somewhat as they announced today a refreshed version of the C43 will debut this week at the Geneva Motor Show. Being an AMG model, let's begin with performance. The twin-turbo 3.0L V6 comes with larger turbos that boost horsepower to 385 - up 23 from last year's model. Torque remains at 384 pound-feet. A nine-speed automatic transmission routes power to all four-wheels via Mercedes-AMG’s rear-biased 4Matic AWD system. No improvement in the C43's performance figures - the run to 60 mph still takes 4.6 seconds.…

Last month's Detroit Auto Show saw Mercedes-Benz unveil the all-new 2019 G-Class. A number of folks were excited as this was the first full-redesign since the model was introduced back in 1979. But there were a number of people wondering if and when an AMG version would arrive. The G-Class is unique in Mercedes-Benz's lineup as half of the models sold are the AMG variant. Good news, Mercedes has revealed the 2019 G63 that will be debuting next month at the Geneva Motor Show. Under the G63's hood is a variant of the 4.0L BiTurbo V8 that is found in a number of Mercedes and AMG models. In this guise, the V8 produces 577 horsepower and 621 pound-feet of torque (available…

Just a year after Mercedes-Benz revealed the AMG GT concept, the German automaker unveiled the GT 4-Door coupe at the Geneva Motor Show. We're sure Mercedes' design department will be insulted when the GT 4-Door is described as a Porsche Panamera wearing a Mercedes-Benz cloak. But the overall silhouette matches up very well with Panamera, which might explain why Mercedes did not provide a straight-on side shot of the vehicle. Cues from GT coupe are here on the sedan with a large vertical slat grille and aggressive bumper for the front, and a sloping rear tailgate. The interior is a mix of Mercedes' current sedans and GT. The top part of the dash feat…

Mercedes-Benz is hoping the updates that it is making for the 2019 C-Class will keep it towards the top of the midsize class. Exterior changes are subtitle with updated bumpers, LED lighting, new 17-inch wheels for the base model, and adding two new paint colors. The interior doesn't seen any major changes in terms of design, but features. Push-button start, 7.0-inch infotainment system, sunroof, and automatic emergency braking become standard on all C-Classes. The C300's turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder gets a 14 horsepower boost to 255. Torque remains 273 pound-feet. Geneva is one of the few auto shows where sports cars are the major attractions. Case in point is Porsche which will be using Geneva to debut the facelifted 2019 911 GT3 RS. The GT3 RS is one of the last 911 models that hasn't gone turbocharging. Instead, it's 4.0L flat-six remains naturally aspirated. Porsche has bumped horsepower by 20 and torque by 8, giving the 911 GT3 RS figures of 520 and 346 respectively. 0-60 mph takes only 3 seconds - a tenth quicker than the previous RS. Drive goes to the rear-wheels via a seven-speed PDK transmission. Those who want a manual will need to step down to the standard GT3. The chassis features a retuned rear-axle steering sy…

Range Rover is bringing back a two-door variant for a limited production run. The 2019 Range Rover SV Coupe which made its debut today at the Geneva Motor Show is the latest project to come from Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations. On the surface, it may seem that the SV Coupe shares a number body panels with the standard Range Rover. But the hood and lower tailgate are the only panels that are shared. Every other body panel is specific to the SV Coupe. The front end features a special two-piece grille. Designers blacked out the roof pillars on the rear to give the effect of a floating roof. Wheels range in size from 21 to 23-inches. Move inside and it …

Ferrari was hoping to keep their Geneva debut under wraps, but a leak yesterday spoiled those plans. Today, Ferrari has revealed 488 Pista, their latest track day special. The Pista (Italian for track) is described by the prancing horse as a model that benefits from the knowledge that was learned in the FIA's World Endurance Championship (this includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans). Most of this knowledge is applied in the aerodynamics of the 488 Pista. This includes reshaped front diffusers, an F1-inspired S-Duct, and a larger rear spoiler. This allows the 488 Pista to produce 20 percent more downforce than the 488 GTB. Ferrari has also updated their Side-Slip Angle C…

Today, the Korean automaker has unveiled the Kona EV before its official debut next week at the Geneva Motor Show. Styling for the large part is the same as the regular Kona. The only real difference is up front where the grille is closed off and features a little door hiding the charging point. Other design changes include a two-tone roof and 17-inch alloy wheels. A week out before the start of the Geneva Motor show, Lexus has decided to pull the curtain back on their showing, the new UX crossover. The UX will sit underneath the NX in the Lexus family, becoming the new entry-level model. The UX's exterior might be Lexus' most polarizing design to date. Up front sits a massive spindle grille, raked front headlights, and deep cuts into the bumper. The side profile shows off squared-off wheel wells and sculpting along the side. Lexus dropped a short video which gives us a sneak peek into the UX's interior, looking somewhat similar to the LC with a wide infotainment screen and a small row of buttons for the climate control. This is a bit of a surprise. Porsche rolled out a new Mission E concept called the Mission E Cross Turismo. While Porsche describes this as a crossover, we would say its a lifted wagon like an Audi Allroad. Design is a mashup of the Mission E in the front and Panamera Sport Turismo for the rest. Various bits of body cladding line the lower part of the concept. A set of five-spoke wheels finished in blue are wrapped in chunky 275/40R-20 tires. The interior features a number of touchscreens that control various functions of the vehicle, along with seating for up to four people. One clever trick is a camera in the interior rearview mirror that tracks driver’s and the fro…

16 years. That is how long since the Toyota Supra has been out of production. But since that time, various rumors, speculation, and spy photos have hinted that Supra was going to make a comeback. The GR in the concept's name is short for Gazoo Racing, the team behind Toyota's racing efforts in Le Mans and the World Rally Championship. The Supra itself has a long racing history, competing in the likes of IMSA, Le Mans. and Japan GT (now known as Super GT) - the latter is where the Supra claimed 4 championships. Kia fully unveiled their all-electric concept car at the Geneva International Auto Show today. Kia's design team exploited the flexibility of an electric chassis architecture to maximize cabin space to create a spacious interior. The CX-30 is the second vehicle, after the Mazda 3, in Mazda's new-generation of vehicles. (Because the first thing you think of when you hear about a Swiss ski resort is a Japanese SUV - DD) The Engelberg is yet another PHEV Crossover, in this case using an improved version of the twin-motor PHEV system used in the Outlander PHEV. The engine is a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder designed specifically for hybrid use. The system works in a series hybrid mode where the engine acts as a generator to power the…

Subaru has released a teaser image of the VIZIV Adrenaline concept they plan to unveil in Geneva Switzerland at the Geneva Auto Show. The image gives the impression of a small, sporty crossover with a fastback roofline, but the accompanying press release goes into little other detail. Subaru says that Viziv is a coined word from the phrase Vision for Innovation. Subaru will also be displaying two European specification, electrified e-Boxer vehicles. What you're looking at here is a preview of the next generation Subaru Crosstrek. Unveiled at the Geneva International Auto Show today, the Subaru Viziv Adrenaline concept is a more distinct take on what the Crosstrek could look like. Subaru has increased the amount of body cladding, made the lines sharper, added LED accent lighting, and 6-dot fog lights front and rear. The wheels have white highlights on the rim. The company says the concept shows Subaru's new "BOLDER" design theme. The Crosstrek was recently refreshed for the 2018 model year and a Plug-in Hybrid Crosstrek was introduced at the 2018 LA Auto Show, so it may be a few years before we see the st…

Ahead of the Geneva Auto Show, Volkswagen has unveiled the R version of their T-Roc crossover. The T-Roc is a small crossover not (yet?) sold in the U.S. that slots below the Tiguan and most directly related to the Volkswagen Golf. Standard models went into production for the European market in 2017. That brings us to 2019 and the unveiling of the 2020 Volkswagen T-Roc R. The T-Roc R is the new top of the line for the T-Roc range. Shown above as a nearly production ready concept, the T-Roc R gets many of the upgrades the Golf R gets. That includes a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder producing 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed to the standard 4…

Geneva may be one of continental Europe's premier venues for automobile manufacturers, but its not a show that garners the same lust and attention for us that American shows do. Most of the cars typically launched at Geneva are from European marques and intended for Europe anyway. However, recently, Geneva has been the release point for several cars that should pique interests wordwide, such as the Rolls-Royce 101EX, BMW Z4 coupe, SAAB's Aero-X, and the Dodge Hornet. Many of these 'world cars' do end up stateside or are simply interesting. Geneva's significance for GM this year (so far) seems to revolve around the possible European launch of the Chevy HHR and what is pos…

In a press release, Infiniti says the QX30 is for those who seeking an "urban week and get-away weekend" lifestyle. Judging from the teaser show released by Infiniti, the QX30 concept looks be a high-riding version of the Q30 concept shown at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. We can make out a set of trapezoidal tailpipes, small liftgate, and slim taillights. Now its been reported that the Q30 and QX30 will use Mercedes-Benz's MFA architecture - the one that underpins the Mercedes-Benz CLA and…

Kia has released a teaser shot of a D-segment (midsize) sedan concept that will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Now some believe that this is a preview of the next-generation of the Optima midsize sedan. We'll find out if it is and have more information and pictures when the concept is shown on March 3rd. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 3, 2013 Bentley has unveiled the new 2014 Flying Spur before its introduction at the Geneva Motor Show this week. We got a sneak peek at the Flying Spur thanks to a leak a couple weeks ago and the shots put out by Bentley match the leak shots. While the 2014 Flying Spur has a similar profile as the outgoing model, Bentley gave the new model some new design cues to make more aggressive. There is more upright face, arched fenders, new roofline, and a set of horizontal taillights. Inside the Flying Spur, Bentley has made sure this no shortage of luxury and technology appointments. Power comes in the form a 3.8L flat-six producing 475 horsepower and revs up to 9,000 RPMs. Handling the shifting duties is a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, sorry no seven-speed manual option. Thanks to a leak showing revealing the next Audi R8 yesterday, Audi has spilled the beans on 2016 R8 before its official debut at Geneva Motor Show next week. The basic shape of the R8 hasn't changed much, just slight tweaks here and there. Measurements for the new R8 are 14.5 feet long, 6.4 feet wide, 4.1 feet high, and a 8.7-foot wheelbase. Inside the R8, Audi has taken the ideas used in the new TT and applied them into the R8. This means a minimalistic layout and new 12.3 inch display which features driver information and infotainment settings. As for power, there is a 5.2L V10 with two levels of power. Audi pulled the covers off the 2017 Q2 crossover today at the Geneva Motor Show. This new crossover is aimed at younger buyers living in urban areas and marks the beginning of an expansion for Audi's crossover lineup. The first thing that is evident is that Q2's design wasn't born from the enlarge/reduce function on the copy machine. It looks slightly different from Audi's other crossovers. This is due to Audi's design boss Marc Lichte and his plan to make models look slightly different from each other. Up front is a large grille with an egg crate design for the insert and angled headlights. Around the side, Audi's designers took large, chamfered cut on the top off th…

Power isn't everything in a sports car and Chevrolet would like to prove to that you with the introduction of the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport. The Grand Sport retains the 6.2L LT1 V8 producing 460 horsepower. But is able to pull 1.2 Gs and is almost as quick as the last-generation ZR1 at GM's Milford proving ground. How did Chevrolet pull this off? It comes down to the chassis and body. Corvette engineers fitted new stabilizer bars and springs to improve handling. A set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires keep the Grand Sport sticking to the road. Other changes for the Grand Sport include a limited-slip differential, a Z06-style front grille, wider rear fenders, …

Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicles Operation (SVO) division apparently had more in store for the F-Type. Last night, Jaguar pulled the curtain back on the F-Type SVR coupe and convertible. The SVR story begins under the hood where a supercharged 5.0L V8 has been retuned to produce 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive transmits all of that power to the road. Jaguar quotes a 0-60 MPH time of 3.5 seconds. Top speed stands at 200 MPH for the Coupe and 195 MPH for the Convertible. SVO also put the F-Type SVR on a diet. The standard model is about 55 pounds lighter the F-Type R thanks to lightweight items such as a …

Mercedes-Benz is taking aim at the Audi S5 and BMW 435i with the introduction of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe. At first glance, you might be thinking this is a dyed in the wool AMG model. But earlier this year, Mercedes announced that it would be shuttering the AMG Sport name and rename the models Mercedes-AMG C43 and GLE43. The C43 coupe shares the sedan's twin-turbo 3.0L V6 with 362 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic and Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system gets the power to the road. When picking a Bentley Flying Spur, an important question comes up: Do you go for the V8 or the W12 engine? Bentley is going to make that question a bit harder to answer as they have announced a new version of the Flying Spur called the V8 S which boasts slightly more power. Okay, we're being a bit tongue in cheek here. The V8 S is actually being positioned as a more of a driver's car and it begins under the hood. The twin-turbo 4.0L V8 has been reworked slightly to produce 521 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the standard V8, the V8 S is has 21 more horsepower and an additional 15 pound-feet. Despite the increase in performance, Bentley says the Flyi…

Time for a logic problem: This is the 2015 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe which is like the 3-Series sedan since it has four-doors. But the 4-Series Gran Coupe features a sleeker roofline, is 0.5 inches longer and wider, and a shorter height than a 3-Series. The 4-Series Gran Coupe is also like the 3-Series GT because the two models feature a hatchback, but the Gran Coupe has a bit more legroom than the 3-Series GT. Make sense? Probably not. Let's move onto something that will likely make a bit a more sense and that will be the powertrains. Much like the 3/4-Series, the 4-Series Gran Coupe will feature a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder (428i) with 240 horsepower and 255 pound-f…

Please do not adjust your monitors. What you are looking at is the Opel (or Vauxhall) GT Concept that will make its debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show. This is GM Europe's idea of what a futuristic sports car would look like. Styling of this coupe is very striking. The classic coupe design is there with a long front and short rear. The profile is very smooth with the absence of door handles and side-view mirrors, along with seamless transition between the metal and door glass. One interesting touch on the GT Concept is a red accent strip running along the roofline to the fender. Not only does this add an interesting visual, it also hides a touchpad to open the …

Opel and Vauxhall are gearing up for a busy Geneva Motor Show. They have already revealed the GT Concept. Today, the two GM Europe brands pulled the curtain back on the 2016 Mokka X. Despite the addition of the letter X to the name, the Mokka X is just a refresh of the current model. The big change in the refresh is a new front end. New headlights with LED accents complement a new grille that reminds us slightly of the one found on the Buick Avista concept. Inside is a new center stack design that removes the button-heavy layout and includes a new touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Powertrains for the Mokka X include a turbocharged …
