Ok I've had this pig of a vehicle for 17 mths now and I can honestly say that i have never hated any vehicle more. I have the top of the line Equinox LT with AWD and have had a myriad of problems with it since new: 1) From time to time for no reason the key will not turn in the ignition unless i play with the steering column for sometimes upwards of 10 mins to get the ignition lock to release. 2) Cheap plastic interior rattles like a ten year old Cavalier 3) AWD system has had a number of issues and repairs under warranty to replace a variety of grinding noises and vibrations. 4) Craptacular transmission that routinely shifts hard or sometimes refuses to shift out…

Is there a more perfect family vehicle than the Maxx? You get everything: power, fuel economy, quality fit and finish, and ROOM. I need something that will carry kid surfboards (70 inches) while getting excellent fuel economy year round. I'm deciding between a Toyota Matrix with a stick (i like to shift myself) or the Maxx (no stick, but a serene drive experience instead). I don't have the inside scoop on GM's Epsilon strategy. Maybe they aren't making money on this one division bodystyle? Maybe the product planning people don't know what they're doing? Seems like Chevy has done this before (the Nova hatchback didn't last, the Citation…

Self explanatory, I will get one of these two cars, but each has it's pros and cons to the other. If they add auto climate control and telescoping steering wheel to the Imp, or put the Imp/HHR radio or flip/fold rear seats in the Malibu, I would be swayed...

http://www.twente-nieuws.nl/UserFiles/Medi...etot_medium.wmv Translation: You've just put some gas in a brand new Corvette Z06 and 200 meters later you're landing on your roof. That happened with a driver on his way to a photoshoot in Berlin, not a photoshoot of himself but of the Corvette . Its a Corvette Z06 with a 7-liter engine that goes from 0 to 100 kilometers an hour (60 mph) in 3.9 seconds. The car costs about 120,000 Euro. It's a miracle nobody has been hurt. The police are investigating the accident.

Just got my Dec M/T mag today. If you don't have a subscription, pick one up at the news stand. Main article is the Z06 vs Ford GT vs Dodge Viper. All back to back tested in the same conditions. The GT was quickest with a 11.5 ET but the ZO6 was nipping at it's front bumper with a 11.6 ET. The Viper was slowest of the 3. But while the Z only got beat by .1 in the 1/4 miles, it bested the Viper and GT's cornering, slalom, track lap time and braking distance... all for $68k vs $166k of the GT. Also (we're not done yet) is a article of the Pontiac Solstice vs Mazda MX5 and Charger SRT8 vs Pontiac GTO.

Corvette Timeline This is a cool webpage. Back before I joined C&G, I would frequently visit this site to get the latest on C6 Corvette info. It inevitably lead me here. Now that all of the C6 is out, it is a great referrence of past concepts, prototypes, spy shots, and renderings; mostly of the C6. C7 speculation had started, as well as some Blue Devil talk, but its been a long time since I last visited it and it seems that it hasn't changed much. Anyways, it's interesting to look back at the speculation. Check it out.

from Newsday: Tom Incantalupo ROAD TEST Chevy’s big new V-8 Impala is in a power class of its own It's an exaggeration to say that the Chevrolet Impala SS has no equal. But, for the money, the 303-hp. V-8-powered SS has no direct competition. There are few other front-wheel-drive cars available with V-8s. One, the Pontiac Grand Prix, is smaller. The new Cadillac DTS and upcoming Buick Lucerne are more expensive, and, as of the end of the '05 model year, the Pontiac Bonneville is gone. The Cadillac STS V-8 and the V-8 sedans from Ford and Chrysler are rear-drivers. V-8 sedans from Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes, Jaguar and Volkswagen are rear-drivers or a…

since we all know that the Colorado/Canyon and especially the Hummer H3 could really use a V6 engine, would it be possible to offer the 3.9L V6 thats used in the impala/Monte carlo in these?? of course it would have to be mounted diffrently, but if they are planning on bringing back the camaro it would probably use the 3.9L as its base engine, so they would need to engineer it for rwd anyways..

I posted the following photoshop rendering on the old C&G and recieved surprisingly positive feedback in doing so. My idea was simple. Instead of applying a mildly revised '06 Impala front-end and slightly reworked rear to the current Monte Carlo, I suggested that Chevy simply replace the model altogether with a coupe variant of the Impala. The Monte Carlo name would be dropped in favor of 'Impala Coupe' badging. Styling aside, the current MC is little more than an Impala coupe anyway. In essence, the resulting model would not only be a more attractive car from a styling standpoint, but further damage to the Monte Carlo moniker would be limited until a more s…

Can't beleive it!! First I saw a Yukon factory test vehicle on the Hwy last Thursday and today I was driving getting ready to turn onto the Hwy and here comes a all white '07 Tahoe!! No tape, no camo... just like you'd see it on the showroom. I recognized it from a few hundred feet down the road. These new GMT-900's are distinctive. When I saw the Yukon last week I recognized the tail lights from a distance and it was starting to get dusk when I saw it. So this "it looks like an expedition" bs is just bs in my opinion. Maybe in pics on the internet but they are distinctive out on the road in person.

n a flashback to the 1980s, high gas prices pushed smaller cars to the top of the list of biggest percentage sales gains in September. Among the biggest gainers are models not normally in the limelight: Dodge Neon, Chevrolet Malibu and Nissan Sentra. ADVERTISEMENT The five vehicles showing the biggest percentage increases in September over a year ago were all smaller cars, according to a USA TODAY analysis of Autodata sales figures for vehicles that sold at least 10,000 units. By contrast, four of the five biggest percentage losers were SUVs or pickups. (Photo gallery: Small cars, big sales) "The two hurricanes and the subsequent spike in gas prices led consum…

HHR is hot, so GM raises target again Automaker looks at boosting production to 120,000 annually By Jamie LaReau Automotive News / October 10, 2005 DETROIT -- General Motors believes it has a hit with the new Chevrolet HHR wagon but must figure out how to build more of them. "What we're trying to do is ramp up the capacity of the components and the plant so that we can build without having to go build another plant for it," says Lori Queen, GM's vehicle line executive for small cars. Robert Lutz, GM's vice chairman for product development, says GM plans to produce 120,000 HHRs annually. Production will "probably go up from there,…

Was driving the ol lady up to the airport (detriot metro) and was just crossing the MI/IN border on I-69 and came up behind a white SUV with some black tape in spots around it. No camo/bra's but they did have the "GMC" and "Yukon" logo's taped over. I actually recognized the rear tailights before I got up on it. So it was distinct. Thought it was a Tahoe at first until I passed it and saw the grill. I slowed down to let it pass back by me for another look (the g/f was getting pissed at me doing that LOL!). It looked good goind down the road. Looks visually wider than the current Yukon but is probably just an illusion. Proportions look great…

I saw 2 new Impalas on the lot at my local dealer the other day, and I have a few questions about ordering models and options.. One of the cars was a Black SS with light grey leather interior, but it had the woodgrain dash applique instead of the Chrome-ish stuff that I thought was specific to the SS. Can you order an SS with the woodgrain dash, or one of the other models with the chrome? The other car on the lot was a dark gray "3LT" that also had the light gray leather, but it also had the 3.9 V6; I thought that the 3.9 was specific only to the LTZ... this car had LTZ wheels and stickered out at over $28K; seems to me that if you can order a "3LT&…

I admit it ... I'm not all that enthusiastic about Chevrolet's current lineup, given that Chevrolet is offering FWD versions of what they claim to be the malibu, impala and monte carlo. So, I'm not sure what exactly possessed me to visit Huntley (IL) Chevrolet ... the dealership that showcases a '49 Chevrolet in its showroom ... this past Friday night. I think it was a combination of curiosity, the employee discount's final hours, and that I was itching to get into a showroom again. I test drove a Cobalt during my short time there and was pleasantly surprised/impressed. My eyes also captured a glimpse of an '06 impala. Yes, I felt disdain/di…

Hey all, still relatively new to the forums but wanted your opinions on this. It has become a chip on my shoulder to read articles in magazines that downplay the domestics (namely in the 4 door and SUV segments). Question is this, with the Tahoe coming in next year, do you guys think that the magazine editors will either A. Commend it, give it a thumbs and and realize that domestics are making a move towards the imports throats. or B. Nitpick it, talk bad about it and give it a 3rd place or worse in a comparison test behind the Toyota Sequoia, 4runner, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder or otherwise. From page 22 in the new MT: "Chevrolet's new 7.0-liter Corvette Z06 makes more than the advertised 505 horsepower... much more. Rumor is it makes up to 550horses, which would explain the astonishing performance at the Nurburgring's Nordschliefe." During our GM Canada dealer meetings tonight in Ontario we were introduced to the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe and the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. Although we were unable to sit in them, we were given an upclose look at the exterior of the models and let me tell you, they are even more amazing in real life. The Avalanche still has its unmistakable styling but has been softened on the sides and made more agressive on the front end. Some of the features we are too expect is a power operated hard cover and rolling cargo area, like that introduced this year on the 2006 Cadillac EXT. Dare I say that the side view of the Avalanche reminded me of the Ridgeline but much more Avalanche …

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?se...article_id=2781 "In terms of raw acceleration, the Z06 is world-class quick, though not quite a match for its cross-town Mopar rival, the Dodge Viper SRT-10. Our vBox test gear clocked a 4.2-second 0-60 run, nearly reaching this speed in 1st gear, where the Dodge sprints there in 4.0; likewise, the Z06 dispatches the quarter-mile in 12.3 sec. at 116.6 mph, while its V-10-powered adversary cranks out a 12.1 at 119.3. The Viper feels quicker too in a roll-on situation, its extra 1.3 liters of displacement practically punting you forward, versus the still-forceful but more linear surge of the Z06."

http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103218 That bugs me that GM didn't bother increasing the wheelbases from where they are now. Why? What were they thinking? Manueverability, Schmaneuverability, every other large SUV has a longer wheelbase-and wouldn't it make sense to base Tahoe/Yukon on the same wheelbase as the regular-cab standard (6.5-foot) box like the 1995-99 originals?

Chevy's 2007 Tahoe Biggest launch ever? NASHVILLE — The 2006 Chevrolet Impala is a solid alternative to Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, considered benchmarks among family sedans. Styling is taut and almost resembles Accord's. Road personality is composed with a hint of sportiness. Comfort is high. Stupidity is low. An optional V-8 engine offers something the Japanese brands don't. A rich complement of standard features — head-curtain air bags, a trip computer, an iPod/MP3 plug, three sets of child-seat latches, OnStar telecommunications and emergency notification service — give Impala advantages over even some higher-price competitors. Thoughtful options — rear seats that flip and fold instead …

I suddenly thought of this idea, like a "real life show" form of an ad. OK, first grab a Cobalt, COMPLETELY camoflauge the fact that it's a Chevy, i.e. like the spy vehicles, use like the vinyl wraps on the front grille, rear end, strip the badges from the steering wheel, use generic wheel covers at Tire Rack or Canadian Tire. Next, in the streets, stop people with Corollas and Civics. Particularly look for people who make negative comments about American cars, particularly. Do a brief interview with them, and record their phrases like: I LOVE my Corolla, it's like the best car you can get... blah blah blah.... Then, challenge them to test drive the s…

Link: http://www.edmunds.com/future/2007/chevrol...v..0.Chevrolet* What Edmunds.com Says: With GM quickly falling behind its competitors in the full-size truck segment, look for GM to pull out all the stops to assure that this Silverado has everything it needs to compete. What We Know: Major changes will be necessary on this stalwart design in order to keep it competitive against its longtime rival, the F-150, in addition to relative newcomers such as the Nissan Titan and next-generation Toyota Tundra. When the new Silverado appears, probably in 2007, it will feature a far more elegant cabin than the current model along with a new GMT-900 platform. A more powerful …

By John K. Teahen Jr. Automotive News / September 12, 2005 Chevrolet executives aren't talking much about it these days, but they nervously await each month's sales figures, hoping against hope that it still can be done. The "it" is 3 million new-car and light-truck sales in 2005. It's possible, but it will be a far reach for General Motors' top-volume division. GM is eager for Chevy to return to 3 million. So what else is new? GM is eager for every brand to sell every car and truck possible. Chevy hasn't sold 3 million cars and trucks in a year in more than a quarter of a century. The division first made it in 1972 and 19…

Chevy HHR gets strong launch Automaker now sees annual sales nearing 100,000 By Jamie LaReau Automotive News / September 12, 2005 DETROIT - Confident that the Chevrolet HHR is a hit, General Motors plans a robust 2006-model production of 100,000 units. "They've got me on max overtime and running every one I can make," Lori Queen, GM's vehicle line executive for small cars, told Automotive News. The HHR is built at the Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, plant. The wagon starts at $15,990 including shipping with the top model in the $24,000 range, a Chevrolet spokesman says. As GM moves to value pricing - setting stickers closer to t…

Driving North on US-23 (Brighton/Hartland, MI area) this mourning I saw the strangest thing. It was defiantly a Camaro but it was nothing I've ever seen before. It had prototype camo only on the front end / grill area. It was large, had a retro look, long hood, white with orange stripes. What I saw was reminiscent of a 1st generation front clip and spoiler with the side profile similar to that of a 4th gen. At first I said to myself, "Can it be? Not driving down 23 at 8:30 in the mourning". And then less than a mile behind it was an SUV covered in camo top to bottom. Either GM is testing the new Camaro or someone with to much time and money is butchering Cam…

"Cobalt: The 2006 model year is big for performance at Chevrolet, with the SS badge added to a wide range of high-horsepower vehicles. Cobalt SS coupe and sedan models feature a 171-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as well as suspension and styling enhancements. A freshening is planned for the 2008 model year. GM is exploring an awd Cobalt variant that likely would be aimed at the Mitsubishi Evolution and Subaru WRX." -AutoWeek. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I would believe it to be reasonably so. An all wheel drive Cobalt sure seems exciting!

http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102544 Offshore, GM soars with Chevy brand; GM Daewoo boosts sales, production JASON STEIN | Automotive News Posted Date: 6/9/05 DETROIT -- Here's what was missed in the news about General Motors' distressed brands and sluggish U.S. sales: While GM sliced third-quarter North American production by 100,000 units, it increased Asian production forecasts by 100,000 units. GM sales in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America have grown this year. And its engine for growth is Chevrolet, the venerable high-volume brand that has enjoyed a rebirth overseas. While GM is trimming its product lineup for slow-growth brands …

2006 Aveo The Chevrolet Aveo is a reconfigured Korean Daewoo model and the interior and exterior were designed by Italdesign of Italy. The engine is a 1.6-litre 4, producing 103 hp, from Opel. GM link: http://www.chevrolet.com/aveo/ Review: http://motortrend.com/roadtests/intellicho...005_chevy_aveo/ Introduction General Motors’s first attempt to compete on a heads-up basis with entry-level Asian econoboxes involved a partnership with Suzuki. The progeny of this corporate marriage was a little runt called the Metro, which was retired five years ago. Now, GM is trying again, only this time, it’s hooked up with a Korean rather than a Japanese manufacturer. …

I got my new C&D today, and they had a little write up on the TB SS. 0-60 in 5.4s 1/4 mile in 13.9s .80g on the skidpad To put that into perspective, the 04 GTO did 0-60 in 5.3s with a 6-speed manual (TB SS has a 4-speed auto).

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...rticleId=107094 By D. John Booth Date posted: 01-01-3000 You know, there's just no way it's a coincidence. Dave Hill, Chevrolet's chief engineer for the Corvette, can wax engineering all he wants about optimum bore size, combustion efficiency and maximizing fuel economy, but the real reason the new 2006 Corvette Z06's LS7 engine displaces 7.0 liters is that it translates into exactly 427 cubic inches, a magic number in Corvette lore. And while the new engine may not have the reputed 550 horsepower the legendary L88 had (though it was rated at a measly 430 hp to "fool" insurance companies),…

Today I was eating at the dining center with a couple girls and somehow we got on the subject of what cars we drove. One of them said she used to have a Corolla but her parents recently bought her a Chevy Malibu. I assumed it was a '97-'03, but she said it was a 2004 so I thought that was kinda interesting. Then, as we were leaving, I overheard some guy say "No, I don't have the Civic anymore...I have a Cobalt now." I've also seen a ton of G6's around campus. Could GM be attracting a new generation of car buyers?

If you look at the Aveo, there's still one that has no designation. I guess what Chevy is trying to appeal that the others are more of a premium model, so in a sense that models got "upgraded" on the badge side.

MARK PHELAN: New Chevy HHR hits home run August 25, 2005 BY MARK PHELAN FREE PRESS COLUMNIST http://www.freep.com/money/autoreviews/phe...825.htm#graphic The 2006 Chevrolet HHR is what the future used to look like, an artist's rendering that blends memory and imagination. From its optional chrome roof rack to the sculpted metal housings for its round afterburner taillights, the HHR reminds me of 1940s and '50s drawings of spaceships and cars of the future. Some skeptics have already dismissed the throwback look of the HHR as Chevy's belated answer to Chrysler's retro-styled PT Cruiser, but the compact wagon is more than that. Both ca…
