Chevrolet Cruze Gains for 2012 Drew Dowdell - CheersandGears.com May 16th, 2011 Being only one year on the market, we wouldn't expect too many changes for Chevy's new compact car. However, Chevy isn't going to sit still on this one. The biggest news is that on Cruze's equipped with the 1.4 liter turbo and automatic transmission gain 2mpg in highway fuel economy. Unfortunately, they don't explain how they do it. There are no axle ratio changes or engine updates listed. The final drive ratio is switching from 3.83 to a 3.53 while other cogs in the 6-speed auto are all getting different ratios as well. (scroll down in thread for details) For those of you who want to r…

I started this inquiry in the old format, found my own answer in the 2006 GM press releases, that the General is pitching the Uplander as the replacement for the Astro. Somebody needs to clean their glasses! First off, the Uplander is at most a 7 passenger vehicle, not 8, as the Astro was! Second, it does not have a 5000 lb tow capacity. I'm not sure of performance comparisons between the old 4.3L and the new 3.9L variable timing V-6, whenever it becomes available. The 3,4L sure doesn't have it! And that cargo box deal, !!!!! who is smokin' them funny cigarettes at design? If you have cargo ON THE FLOOR in the back, how can yo…

I recently had the opportunity to pick up a light blue LS Impala from Enterprise for 4 full days to really get a feel for this revamped Chevy. To my surprise and delight this base LS model came with a trip computer and dual trip odometers so I could see what the computer said I was averaging and what the calculator said. This was again the LS model without the 2 only options of ABS and remote starter prep. My first observation upon pulling out of Enterprise and getting up to speed was how much quieter this 06 was compared to my previous 00 base model. This pleased me to see that Chevy has finally quelled some of the road noise that plagued earlier versions. This new I…

I have been doing video editing for the last few years and a lot of the videos that I have done have to do with cars. My first video I ever did was a "Camaro Returns"-esque sort of thing which was originally posted on this site (I still get emails about it) and with the recent surge of attention that the new Camaro was getting, I have wanted to do another Camaro tribute video in a way that it would be like something you would see being played moments before the actual debut of the vehicle. I have been reading through the lists of song suggestions on camaroz28.com's "Intro Music" thread and I have a few ideas for a video using some of the songs list…

According to MotorTrend, fords Mach e while pissing off the mustang faithful has already sold out all production for America and Europe for the first year. As such with GM having a flexible EV platform and considerable new EVs coming over the next 3 years, this begs the question of Could GM produce a Camaro EV CUV and call it the Z28? With the first nine auto's off the EV platform to be a Cadillac, one has to wonder how GM might fit the sporty performance into their product line and having a performance CUV Camaro could be the magic ticket. To quote the MotorTrend story: we'd expect a Chevy Camaro electric SUV to at least match the 255 horsepower Ford is targeting fo…

Driving North on US-23 (Brighton/Hartland, MI area) this mourning I saw the strangest thing. It was defiantly a Camaro but it was nothing I've ever seen before. It had prototype camo only on the front end / grill area. It was large, had a retro look, long hood, white with orange stripes. What I saw was reminiscent of a 1st generation front clip and spoiler with the side profile similar to that of a 4th gen. At first I said to myself, "Can it be? Not driving down 23 at 8:30 in the mourning". And then less than a mile behind it was an SUV covered in camo top to bottom. Either GM is testing the new Camaro or someone with to much time and money is butchering Cam…

When one automaker comes up with an interesting idea, usually others will follow. See German crossover 'coupes' as an example. With Ford working on a hybrid version of the Mustang, it doesn't come as a surprise that Chevrolet is looking into this as well. Back in August, a poster on the Camaro6 forum got a screenshot with a survey asking Camaro owners which powertrain they would consider if they bought a new sports car. Respondents were given the four choices listed below, or None of the Above: 4 Cylinder, 2.7L, Turbo engine, 310 HP, 25 mpg combined, 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds - $0 4 Cylinder, 2.0L, Hybrid Turbo engine, 365 HP (total system power), 30 mpg …

Is Blue Devil Alive? Chevy Performance Might Be Heating Up By WES RAYNAL AutoWeek | Published 02/08/06, 12:20 pm et Chevy officials at the Chicago auto show aren't comfirming that a higher-performance version of the Corvette Z06, called Blue Devil, is under development. But they certainly are not downplaying the possibilities. "We'd love to have it," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. Sources say the Blue Devil might go with a supercharged version of the Z06's 7.0-liter V8, producing upward of 600 hp. Look for lightweight carbon fiber body parts to reduce weight to about 2900 pounds. Pricing will likely start somewhere around $100,000 if and when the ca…

A couple of years ago, Chevrolet rolled out the Colorado ZR2 concept. This truck showed what a possible off-road focused model could look like. At the time, Chevrolet said this was only a concept. But some new spy shots show GM is considering putting this model into production. While the front end is camouflaged very well, we can make out certain details such as a new front bumper, tow hooks, and a skid plate. The bumper is an important change as the current one limits how far you can off-road. The suspension has been lifted (an inch or two we're guessing) and there is a set of meaty off-road tires. Engines choices are likely to be the 3.6L V6 and 2.8L Duramax fou…

Chevrolet has announced pricing for the upcoming Colorado ZR2 Bison. Built with the help of American Expedition Vehicles, the Bison takes the capable ZR2 and adds some more features to allow it to go further in the bush. But it will set you back a fair amount of cash. When it arrives at dealers in January, the Extended Cab will set you back $48,045. The crew cab begins at $49,645. Both prices include a $995 destination charge. That represents a premium of $5,000 to $6,000 when compared to the standard ZR2. That price premium may seem a bit much, but it is going towards some proper upgrades. The includes new skid plates protecting key items such as the oil pan an…

Throwing Gears in a 505-hp Z06-Powered Chevy Camaro By Joe Oldham, Contributor Link to Original Article @ Edmunds This 1999 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro is no ordinary used car. It's a freaking street monster; a snarling, mean mother of a street racer that will chew you up and spit you out if you have the temerity to challenge it at a stoplight. It's powered by a GM Performance Parts (GMPP) LS7 crate motor packing 505 (or more) horsepower, the same engine you'll find under the hood of a Z06 Corvette. In fact, GM Performance Parts built this car because it wants the world to know that the all-aluminum small-block V8 is for sale at any GM dealer's parts counter (or even online)…

The Malibu LTZ looks way beyond Chevrolet's position in the marketplace. Looks so good on the street....it grabs my attention constantly. I'm talking the top level LTZ only, with those nice spidery wheels, heck this car almost has an Audi cache about it. I see more and more new Malibus around town so obviously the public is getting it. If I was in the market for this sort of car, this is the car of choice for me. So impressed. A job well done, GM and Chevrolet. I like especially it's profile...that lower greenhouse makes it so elegant as it glides by.

Some Camaro news from my source.... "Just thought you might like to here the story behind the pics. Someone at the toy co leaked the pics, I've heard the FBI is involved and GM plans to prosecute the person responsible. Expect to see a silver running car at Detroit and a red push car at LA."

Here is something going around on a Mule and speculation it may be a Vette? This is posted on autoblog.com. Hot on the heels of discovering the next-gen Corvette could be offered with a dual-clutch transmission, word is now filtering out that General Motors may be working on adapting the Haldex-sourced XWD all-wheel-drive system currently available on the 2008 Saab 9-3 for use on Chevy's budget supercar. The Haldex XWD is a robust system, as it can send up to 85% of the engine's power to a single wheel. Auto Motor and Sport in Sweden reports that GM engineers have been seen testing a mule with a wider rear track than any Saab currently available, which suggests the sy…

Another vehicle has been revealed earlier than expected. This time, it is the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt which was caught during a photo shoot. The styling for the production model retains the basic shape of the concept. Up front is the clip from Volt and the rear end reminds us of the BMW i3. As we reported in a previous Bolt spying piece, the interior will look similar to the Volt's. But we think the Bolt will have a larger touchscreen. Now the Bolt will make its official debut next month at the Consumers Electronic Show in Las Vegas. Production will begin sometime late in 2016 at GM's Lake Orion plant. n a flashback to the 1980s, high gas prices pushed smaller cars to the top of the list of biggest percentage sales gains in September. Among the biggest gainers are models not normally in the limelight: Dodge Neon, Chevrolet Malibu and Nissan Sentra. By contrast, four of the five biggest percentage losers were SUVs or pickups. (Photo gallery: Small cars, big sales) "The two hurricanes and the subsequent spike in gas prices led consum…

Rumorpile - 2-Door Cruze Coming Soon To Orion Assembly? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 27, 2011 General Motors is very happy with the Chevrolet Cruze. Ironically to my prior conviction, in considering a replacement for my wife's '03 GP, I am.... shopping with a tape measure. We have a tight-ish 90-degree turn into the 1-car-wide garage door opening, and with the GP at least- it is on the tight side. GP width is 72" and the mirrors do not fold. We would consider either another mid-size sedan or a crossover/small SUV. Space, economy & reliability are primary concerns. I don't pay enormous attention to modern vehicle specs- I had thought the Vue & Equinox were on the same platform- I see now that they're not. Vue is quite petite; must be Equinox & Torrent are siblings, right? GP is: wheelbase: 110", ove…

What We Know: Major changes will be necessary on this stalwart design in order to keep it competitive against its longtime rival, the F-150, in addition to relative newcomers such as the Nissan Titan and next-generation Toyota Tundra. When the new Silverado appears, probably in 2007, it will feature a far more elegant cabin than the current model along with a new GMT-900 platform. A more powerful …

Autoweek has a report on the new Cruze and has said the following. "We were pleasantly suprised at how well the Cruze performed." "The Cruze proves GM is putting some real development dollars the small cars." "Now all the Gneneral needs is gas to spke up to more than $4.50." "The Cruze drives like a small car for grown ups. GM spent a lot of effort on cutting NHV and it shows." Traits were low road noise, smooth engine, stiff chassis, Felt compsed, Driven back to back to the Civic the interior was more roomy , felt and looked more upscales and refinded. Back in August I challenged you to test-drive some of our newest products and see for yourselves if they deserve the lavish praise I’ve been giving them. I spoke specifically of the Chevy HHR and Impala, Pontiac Torrent, Hummer H3, Pontiac G6 Coupe and the Solstice. It appears that at least some of you have taken me up on that, because those vehicles are getting attention in dealerships. The HHR in particular has been making a lot of headway in the marketplace. Chevy dealers are telling us they can’t get enough of them; they are selling them at about three times the rate they’d ordered them. About half of those sales have been conquest sales – from customers who pr…

The lease is up on my wife's '06 Dodge Caravan SXT and we're looking for replacements. One vehicle we're NOT considering is the '08 Mopar minivans. The things are butt-ugly and they're even larger & heavier than the outgoing models. Yeah, the interiors are pretty nice and they've done some remarkable stuff with ride quality and sound insulation on the new models. But unfortunately, they're now big tubby tanks and have been supersized right up & out of our league. Saw an ad for price-leader "program cars" at a local Chevy dealership so we popped in to have a look. They let us have an '07 Malibu Maxx LT for the weekend to evaluate it. Chevy HHR gets strong launch Automaker now sees annual sales nearing 100,000 By Jamie LaReau Automotive News / September 12, 2005 DETROIT - Confident that the Chevrolet HHR is a hit, General Motors plans a robust 2006-model production of 100,000 units. Well I got a deal from GM that if I test drove a new Chevy I would get a $50 Gift Cars to Best Buys, Amazon, etc. Well I visited the dealer and the salesman said he would take care of my card and I did not have to even test drive. I told him I really wanted to drive a Colorado. So without even asking who I was or taking any information I was provided with a set of keys to a $36,758 Crew Cab short bed Colorado. Well I drove off and took it on a good test drive. Here are some of my impressions. It is very quiet unless you kick the V6 down. The 3.6 has that growl and in a truck it should be more of an asset than liability. The ride was smooth and solid. Little flex…

"SS" Won't Go On Just Anything Anymore General Motors Corp. is rethinking the way its uses the SS moniker that has adorned souped-up Chevrolets since 1961. SS -- for super sport -- has traditionally signaled performance versions of vehicles like the Camaro, Impala and most recently the Cobalt sedan. The automaker felt it was getting a bit carried away with the label after putting it on the most recent version of the Malibu midsize sedan. So now only cars with the best horsepower, braking power and handling will get the title. It's part of GM's bid to stoke sales by building exclusivity into some models, a move the automaker hopes will burnish the overall image of a …

Good afternoon, Camaro Comrades and Firebird Friends! (and please feel free to share the following with your clubs and Camaro/Firebird friends!) Here are some pictures I took of the Inferno Orange 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS at the Montreal International Autoshow in Quebec, Canada on Tuesday January 20th. This was my first time sitting in the production Camaro. Initial impressions are very good. The interior plastics are hard, but everything had a solid feel, and was put together well. The interior is all business (minimalist) and feels snug, with the low cut windows. Seats are excellent, and room is decent. It looks killer...just like the concept car. There was always a crowd around it, and the short seat time I got, I didn't really use for picture taking of the inside (will do in Toronto). VIDEO:

...but what the hell is going on with the Colorado and Canyon? In current form, they're a joke. Anyone know if there's a planned MCE for 2009? And will they get a next gen replacement? I see enough Dakotas, Tacomas, and Frontiers running around to know the market is there and GM sure is flopping in it.

It's a mock-up of a Camaro vs. Mustang (V6, Z/28, ZL-1 vs. V6, GT, Cobra) battle. Camaro won almost everything. Pretty sweet; go check it out.

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 19, 2012 It’s been a long time coming, but the day has come. The next generation Corvette has been caught on camera, undergoing some testing in Canada. The heavily camouflaged prototype reveals some details on what to expect on the C7 Corvette. Designwise, the C7 Corvette will retain the classic long-nose, short-deck configuration of its predecessors, but have a distinct wedge shape. Also, the C7 Corvette will keep the front-engine layout, squashing rumors of mid-engine car for now. There is still a lot of speculation on what will be powering the next generation Corvette. Rumor has it that a 5.5L twin-turbo V…

Chevrolet Confirms 2013 Cruze Diesel June 22, 2011 - Drew Dowdell, CheersandGears.com Confirming previous rumors, we can finally do the happy dance today as Chevrolet confirms the 2013 Cruze Diesel for production. The already efficient Cruze Eco currently is rated for 42mpg highway, a diesel version would push that number up close to 50mpg. GM Press Release: DETROIT – Chevrolet confirmed today it will add a diesel variant to the Cruze lineup in North America in calendar year 2013. Diesel versions of the Cruze are currently being sold in Europe. Additional details on the Cruze diesel for North American markets will be released at a later date. The diesel…

There's been lots of talk about GM bringing new Caddys and Buicks to market, but what about Chevy? Don't say Cruze - we knew about that before (and I couldn't care less). Will they bring anything to interest me? I hope so, because it is the only brand they have left that I might be interested in.

The battle for Jay Leno's approval has been won. Sure, it's an apples-to-oranges comparison, but Leno recently told Reuters that he's excited about the upcoming Chevy Volt and that, "I think it will be great. I think you'll find that the Volt will be a superior package to the Prius." Leno also said he's in line to give the Volt a test drive when that option becomes available. In other news, Leno recommends bringing a book with you if you're filling up a hydrogen vehicle. Leno has been driving a fuel cell Chevy Equinox for about a year and said that, "The only downside is that it's about a 20 minute wait for a fill-up, so bring a book. But that's only because the infrast…

Do any of you think this vehicle will actually happen and actually sell? There has been much hype in the news. I wonder. I'll bet it's not going to happen as soon as they say if ever. But it sure gives GM good PR. My forecast is that GM will perfect and refine their hybrids and leave it at that.

Just got my Dec M/T mag today. If you don't have a subscription, pick one up at the news stand. Main article is the Z06 vs Ford GT vs Dodge Viper. All back to back tested in the same conditions. The GT was quickest with a 11.5 ET but the ZO6 was nipping at it's front bumper with a 11.6 ET. The Viper was slowest of the 3. But while the Z only got beat by .1 in the 1/4 miles, it bested the Viper and GT's cornering, slalom, track lap time and braking distance... all for $68k vs $166k of the GT. Also (we're not done yet) is a article of the Pontiac Solstice vs Mazda MX5 and Charger SRT8 vs Pontiac GTO.

Settle down: Volt batteries can recharge while driving What the Volt's gas engine can't do is completely recharge the battery pack to its full capacity. Rather, when load conditions are light the gas engine will send surplus electrons to the battery pack, which will also be receiving extra charge from regenerative braking, as well. That sounds about right to us, as we've always been told that constantly charging a battery to its maximum will shorten its life, as the optimum charge range is usually between 20 and 80 percent, not completely drained and not completely charged. GM is determining right now just how much it wants to let the gas engine charge the Volt's batter…

Linkity The fourth TE to surface after 9-4 and Provoq. 2010 Chevrolet Equinox - Spied "Heeeeere, boy!" Chevy's version of GM's new crossover family jumps the fence. This is insane, looks like the auction was pulled though. GM needs to have more regulations and guidelines for dealers to follow. GM's sales would be a lot higher if more people could have a decent experience at a dealership. http://5thgencamaro.blogspot.com/2006/08/d...sits-again.html

I was thinking of getting out my 2.4L Cobalt SS coupe and into a Malibu SS. Nothing wrong with the Cobalt--I just miss low end torque and an auto would be nice sometimes. Plus now that I have a kid--4drs would work better. I have always liked the SS Malibu--its sqaure, angular lines and SS exterior treatment look far more interesting the Accords, Camrys ect. I like this short wheelbase epsilon...much neater, tider dimesnions then it's long wheelbase brethren (G6, Aura) And I still do but after test driving the car it has too many faults for me. Namely the powertrain and a couple of very minor sqeaks/ratles that my Coblat does not have. The 3900 provided very str…

Let it be said the team charged with the Chevrolet Camaro isn't one to take a rest. Despite launching a new generation of the model last year, they have been hard at work on new and updated variants. Case in point is the 2017 Camaro ZL1. Like the last-generation model, the 2017 ZL1 packs a Supercharged 6.2L V8. But engineers have boosted power from 580 horsepower and 556 pound-feet of torque to 640 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching comes standard and a new ten-speed automatic - developed with Ford - that offers close gear ratios and fast shifts. The powertrain also boasts eleven heat exchangers, an auxiliary tra…

Given 20 or 30 years, how collectible will C5 andC6 Corvettes be? I am thinking they will be MUCH more of a collectors item than the C3 and C4 Corvettes, for a few reasons. 1. They are much better cars, and much more driver friendly. 2. They are being driven and raced MUCH more than the earlier C3 and C4 Corvettes-seems like everyone I know with these is beating the hell out of it on the road, on the track, autocrossing it, etc. This will mean that fewer cars will survive and more people will have more vivid memeories of just what these cars can do. Also, competition history helps a car become collectable. Why else do cars like the C2 Corvette, Early Camaro, GT35…

Chevrolet's littlest crossover, the Chevy Trax will launch in January 2015 with a base price of $20,995. Front-wheel-drive is standard and all-wheel-drive will be a $1,500 stand alone option on all trim levels. The Trax shares its platform with the already on sale Buick Encore and will likely share that vehicle's 5-star front and side crash test ratings. The only engine offered is the familiar 1.4 litre turbo unit producing 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque and EPA rated for 26 mpg city and 34mpg highway in front wheel drive models. EPA estimated fuel economy for the AWD model was not officially announced, but we expect it to be about the same or slightly better as the Bui…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 24, 2012 Earlier this morning, General Motors debuted a brand new 6.2L LT1 V8 engine that will be in the seventh-generation Corvette. The new LT1 is full of new tech and comes with some impressive specs. The new 6.2L V8 will produce 450 HP and 450 pound-feet of torque. That can propel the C7 to 60 in under 4.0 seconds, which puts it within a hair of the 2012 Corvette Z06's 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds. Fuel economy is impressive, with GM claiming that the C7 will deliver up to 26 mpg highway. The new technology on the new LT1 V8 includes direct injection with “on demand” adjustable pressure, variable valve timing, a…

It seems to be pretty standard among the automakers who replace their cars regularly to do an MCE for the fourth model year and replace after the fifth. That is to say: Initial design model years: 2005, 6, 7 MCE design model years: 2008, 9 New generation: 2010, etc... The 2008 Cobalt is out and there is no sign of an MCE. Are we getting one for 2009? Or is GM leaving it to rot on the vine like the Cavalier?

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...photopanel..1.* so Edmunds gets sharp tongued at GM for making a hybrid. they test it for a lousy 887 miles to come up with a final verdict on mpg, and most of it HIGHWAY where the greatest mpg gains in hybrids are in town. They would not test a prius the same way. again, biased edmunds. but read it and get your own take. they can't stand how well executed it drives so they rigged the story to find as many ways to talk negatively about it as they could.

I've been driving this magnificent "de-contented" XTS for 1 year and 3 months now after relinquishing an equally powered LLT 3.6L 2011 Camaro for a need of more room. This car is fantastic. In taking the XTS and Lacrosse and giving Chevy a version GM created essentially a Blue Collar worker who just won the Lottery. I mean that. The Drivability of this car is pretty fantastic. As mentioned before I came from a smaller, RWD coupe that handled damn nice and could seriously get up and go for a V6 weighing almost 3800lbs in the Camaro. That car was clocked in at about 5.6secs on a good day. Catch it in the right shift and U could take down V8 powered Chargers. N…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 19, 2013 The current Chevrolet Malibu has seen mixed reviews and slow sales since it went on sale last year. GM CEO Dan Akerson said in a interview back in December that a mid-cycle refresh would be coming in late 2013. "We are going to do a midcycle enhancement, not dramatic, by this time next year," Akerson said. Akerson said that part of the midcycle refresh would include a revised front fascia. Now we have learned that the Malibu refresh will also address another complaint many people have, back seat room. Automotive News reports that the Malibu refresh will improve on the back seat room from the curren…
