Since Im in full car search mode, I found this pretty amusing. An Ontario (Canada) man is running a contest to win his car. Basically, he wants a $50 dollar checque, and a written entry not to exceed 100 words on the theme of “I/We want to win this Saab because..”. After 100 entries, a winner will be picked, and get the car. Easy $5000 bucks for the guy, possibly a $50 dollar SAAB for you. http://www.bmts.com/~warren/ http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-c...QQAdIdZ45525269 Crazy, eh?

Want a Holden Ute? You're 20,000 Signatures Away by black-knight, C&G Editor/Reporter 15th November, 2011 Yes, you read the header right. The weeping and teeth-gnashing could very well come to an end if you've pined for the Australian counterpart for the much beloved and long departed ElCamino. The same goes for any other car that, due to some sort of general incompetence, wasn't offered here: Alfas, Fiats, Vauxhalls and Opels ... the list marches on. This possibility is made possible in part due to an online petition that is trying to change the grey-market import laws regarding cars and trucks, which currently state that no foreign automob…

Posted Jan 27th 2008 11:27AM by Jonathon Ramsey via Autoblog Wired magazine got in the queue for some face time with Bob Lutz at the Detroit Auto Show, and came back with a quote that's raised a few brows. When asked what the target market for the car would be, Lutz said "I don't know. You'd like to have it at about $30,000 for the customer, but what I'm hearing from the team is we're not going to get there.... f it costs closer to 40 than 30, well, that's too bad." The issue is the timeline. His engineering team said that if they had more time they could cost-optimize the car, but Lutz doesn't want to wait for that. As for the recent go-round about when the Volt w…

Weight gain means lower gas mileage: U.S. study Associated Press CHICAGO -- Want to spend less at the pump? Lose some weight. That's the implication of a new study that says Americans are burning nearly 1 billion more gallons of gasoline each year than they did in 1960 because of their expanding waistlines. Simply put, more weight in the car means lower gas mileage. Using recent gas prices of $2.20 a gallon, that translates to about $2.2 billion more spent on gas each year. "The bottom line is that our hunger for food and our hunger for oil are not independent. There is a relationship between the two," said University of Illinois researcher Sheldon Jacobson, a study c…

Upon checking out a few Lucernes, I finally began to realize something. My Millenia rocks. Now, first off, let's ignore the obvious.. The Lucerne is a much bigger car, so things related to that, are not being compared. Also, being that my Millenia is not a top of the line model, but loaded otherwise. I compared it to a Lucerne that also wasn't top of the line, but loaded as well. Essentially the best you can get without the Northstar V8, the V6 CXL. Back in the day, my Millenia had an MSRP of $28,895 while the MSRP of a Lucerne CXL V6 is $29,280. A Millenia is similar in size to large Buicks of 1995, but still just midsize. Millenias were first built back in 93 as 94 m…

Want to talk politics with your neighbour? The Economist I WAS in Seattle on Monday, chatting to Pat Murakami, a lady who runs a small computer repair shop and does a little political agitating on the side. She’s concerned about her neighbourhood, a vibrant area full of Vietnamese shops and veiled women waiting at bus stops. A few years ago, the city tried to declare parts of it “blighted”. That would have enabled it to seize people’s homes and hand the land to private developers. Mrs Murakami started a group called “Many Cultures, One Message”, to rally her neighbors to object to the proposed bulldozing. She prevailed. Or at least, the plan to knock down chunks of he…

Last weekend, I drove my mom to Maryland in her car, a 2005 base model white Cobalt sedan with automatic. She got the spoiler, and she put American Racing rims on it with the factory tires. It's a pleasant looking little sedan, and I was duly impressed by the quiet, comfortable ride and the good gas mileage. After 2 hours behind the wheel, I emerged with no discomfort. The little 2.2L Ecotec pulls nicely. I have gone to Chevy's website and priced out an Imperial Blue 2LT coupe with chrome package, 5 speed manual, Pioneer stereo and leather wrapped wheel/redundant stereo controls. Nicely equipped without going whole hog, it would fit me. I've been feeling a bit …

I just got back in from my morning walk and I'm sick to my stomach. Coming up to a "T" intersection, I waited for a '95-ish Monte Carlo (the new Christine) to come in from the right. Just as it passed about 20 feet in front of me, a squirrel darted out into the street, trying to make it across. I heard a tiny *snap* as the evil MC ran over the little guy's hindquarters and sped off. He dragged himself as quickly as he could to the near side of the street and collapsed in someone's front yard. I approached him, and stood watching as he convulsed and screamed a little squirrel scream. His eyes closed for about 10 seconds and he stopped moving, then started breathing a…

Couldn't think of an appropriate name for the thread, but what type of cars did you absolutely hate before that you've warmed up to now? For example, I've never liked Hummers and always thought the H3 was a miniature H2 and ugly as sin. However, I now think the H3 is more appropriate in the everyday setting and more mature looking than the H2; I like it. List some vehicles you didn't like before that you do now.. this could be interesting (especially if you're an offender of liking the xA, xB, Fit, etc.).

Same as below, but now my student is looking at used '92-'97 2-door Yukons (and probably Blazers/Tahoes). We found a '95 Yukon SLE 4wd online that he's intetrested in - white w/ blue cloth interior, 107k, used car dealer is asking just shy of $7k. These were my favorites, so I'm gonna be sad if and when he gets it (why? Because I'm not the one buying it! ). Any suggestions on what he should look for when he goes to inspect it? I know '96 & '97s used the Vortec V8 engines... any real advantage over the earlier '92-'95 non-Vortec engines? Also the '92-'95s used the floor shifter to engage the 4wd system, whereas the '96 & '97s could have the optional push-but…

So today we all went to my bro's house for a late Thanksgiving dinner. While we were waiting for the burned-to-a-crisp turkey to emerge from the deep fryer, some of us were watching Comedy Central, and that ventriloquist dude everybody's talking about was on. One of his puppets started making fun of Prius drivers. My dad and I laughed, I said "gotta love those Prius drivers". My sister-in-law's stepdad didn't crack a smile. His Prius was in my bro's driveway. When I went to leave after dinner and I said my goodbyes, everybody spoke but him. He gave me a dirty look. HA! Also, my sister-in-law's uncle is a self-styled car expert. He was commenting about my Sierra…

Is there any way to safely wash your car in the winter? I washed my car (05 Cobalt) the other day and then parked at a bar. (no I don't drink and drive) I came out a few hours later and had a lot of trouble getting the car moving out of the spot. Couldn't figure out what was going on. Turns out the parking brake was frozen on. The lever went down, but one of the wheels was stopped and sliding around on the ice in the parking lot. Had to have it towed to a GM garage, where they fixed it as a "warranty issue". So the question that comes from all this is: Is there any safe way to wash your car in the winter and not freeze things like the doors and parking…

Watch a 300-HP Kawasaki H2R Race a Veyron, McLaren 12C, 1350-HP GT-R "Although the 2015 Kawasaki H2R is a track-only offering, the crew over at Super Street were eager to find out how well the supercharged sport bike would fare against three supercars including the McLaren MP4-12C, a 1200-hp Bugatti Veyron, and SP Engineering’s 1350-hp Nissan GT-R. Powered by a supercharged 998-cc inline-four cylinder engine, the 476-pound 2015 Kawasaki H2R makes a claimed 300 hp. It has been raining or sprinkling nonstop for the last couple days as a storm system has stalled out over eastern Iowa. So far we have 8 inches of rain here in the city and streets and streams are starting to flood. We have these teaming rooms in our office we call the cubes (see pic below) and one spots leaks by the air handling unit. We put a 10 gallon trash can up there to catch the water drip, but today it filled up so fast that the weight caused the bucket to crash through the top layer of drywall and water starting spilling into the insulation and causing the lower drywall to bubble. The can was too heavy to lift out, and being the tall one I was volunteered …

We all have regrets - in fact I think regret should be a four letter word - but I digress back to my original post about the one that got away. We all have been there, a car that to you was either a pain in the ass, no longer willing to dump money into it so you sell it cheap - or worse - junked it! I am talking about the abused of the abused, the downtrodden, and the cars that we did not appreciate at the time, but wish we had them now. Maybe it was a car you never got to drive or own, but saw it slip away because it needed more than you were willing to give or did not have the money to own/fix. For me, it was a lovely 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 in Apollo white that…

Took my first road trip today in the 2012 Cruze 1LT 1.4t 6-speed manual, headed down to (bare-) Assateague State Park about 9 miles from Ocean City, MD. Stopped at WaWa in Ocean City to begin my trip home and filled the car with gas, then accidentally reset the average MPG along with the trip odometer... so I was starting from scratch. I took it as an opportunity. I traveled 186.4 miles from there to my garage... and averaged 47.8 MPG!!! And this is with 700 miles on the engine. Talk about being amazed and delighted, this car just blows my mind. And I emerged from the trip without fatigue, the comfortable seats and quiet, smooth ride kept my ass from aching. Willie…

So yesterday they went to the auction in Indianapolis, and today a black Z06 is sitting there getting ready for the mechanics to make sure everything's working okay and for one of us to clean up. Well, the mechanics did their stuff today and I think tomorrow we will probably be cleaning it up. I'm hoping they let me just drive it around in the parking lot or something, it'd be a cool experience. If I could have a Z06, it'd definetly be a black one. It looked so badass it wasn't even funny. So I get there and wait around for like 4 hours and finally get to see her because she was being released. I was so happy to see her alive, I started crying and she was crying, and everyone was crying. And then I said how lucky she was and how I needed to go, but I'd come over to her house and we'd talk. So I went over this afternoon and she told me all about it. She said it was her fault. She was trying to pass someone on a 2 lane highway, and that she mis-judged the space …

Alright... So we have a thread for pictures of how we look currently... but what about when we were young? Nope, don't see it. Well... I thought I'd start a thread for this. I love this pic... I look cute. Oh... and that's my cousin beside me. This was my aunt Cherry's wedding in 1997, I think. Also, I don't have any new pics of my cousin. Just thought I'd let you know... I'll post more, I just have to find them.

Pittsburgh Air Quality Called Second-Worst In U.S. I've been suffering some breathing problems for well over a year but wasn't really able to pin it down to a specific cause until I went to Europe. After 3 days there, suddenly, I could breath again. I could sleep comfortably. I wasn't miserable. It's stuff like this that has been turning me into an environmentalist.

medical site Provided by: Canadian Press Written by: Alexa Olesen, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS BEIJING - U.S.-based toy giant Mattel Inc. issued an extraordinary apology to China on Friday over the recall of Chinese-made toys, taking the blame for design flaws and saying it had recalled more lead-tainted toys than justified. The gesture by Thomas Debrowski, Mattel's executive vice-president for worldwide operations, came in a meeting with Chinese product safety chief Li Changjiang, at which Li upbraided the company for maintaining weak safety controls. "Our reputation has been damaged lately by these recalls," Debrowski told Li in a meeting at Li's office at which reporte…

I'm sure you all have read O. C.'s thread "So my boyfriend is moving in ..." many of you gave great insight to his plight. So my question is this, How many of you that have committed to another person, has ever cheated on that person? By cheating I mean had sexual relations, with another person, that wasn't the one you committed to? If you have, did you own up to it, or will you take that secret to the grave? I will say this for me, before I got married, I was the biggest male whore on the planet, after I got married I have not cheated "done the dirty deed as it were with someone other than my wife", doesn't mean I have not thought about it, talk about it, or even dre…

I was walking to my 12:40 class today when I noticed green clouds moving in a swirling motion. I got to my class just as the wind was starting to pick up and the rain was beginning. A few people were behind me and I tried holding the door open but the wind was so strong that it kept blowing shut. I figured it was just a really strong thunderstorm, but it turns out that a weak tornado touched down in the center of campus with 83 mph winds. Eight people were injured by falling tree branches. Lots of trees are down but there is minimal damage to buildings. People came into class completely soaked and covered in dirt since there was dirt from a construction site nearby …

OK, so I admit, I am cheap in regards to this one.... Since AOL and now GeoCities has gonged free web space... where to get free web space now? I cant see paying to host my diecast web-site, so that I can access it from my phone in the toy aisle at Target.

Weird that I'd think of this, but there are two songs on my playlist that I think would make awesome Wedding Songs (like the song the bride/groom share the first dance with). One is "Into the Mystic" by the Wallflowers (yes, the one from American Wedding haha) and another is "Far Away" by Nickelback. What was/is/will be your wedding song? What do you think some good ones would be? Weird question, I know.

I hate weddings. No real reason, I just do. I got an invitation for an old friends wedding next month. I really dont want to go, because I really dislike weddings. Have I mentioned that? I tried using the no babysitter excuse(a lie, btw), she said that I could bring my son. I'll think of some way to weasel my way out of going. All this got me thinking about mine, which is tentatively scheduled for sometime between 1/1/2010 and 12/31/2020. I've already asked if I can have someone stand in for me during the ceremony so I can play video games or something. That got a no.

I love Weird Al's songs. They are also funny and amusing. Finally he decided to come back and make fun of "Ridin' Dirty" by Chamillionaire. This one is White and Nerdy!!!! I love that he has a Prius in the video and a Segway lol. This is great. Also note, the 2 guys in the first part of the movie are currently part of MAD TVs cast if you recognize them. The video can be seen here. Enjoy!!!! White and Nerdy - Weird Al

I've been thinking this topic up for a while. Who do you know personally that has a strange taste in cars that they like/dislike love/hate? My girlfriend for example, hates the Mini, but loves, of all things, the Scion xB. I have no idea why to this day. She hates the Magnum, but loves the Charger. She loves the Mustang. She like her Geo Prism but hates Chevy..even though I told her that her logo has a Chevy emblem on it She does love the Corvette however, and is OK with the Cobalt (because I like it, and the commercials were cute). She doesn't like the Caliber cuz it looks too much like a mini Magnum, but likes the Neon SRT-4. She likes the 300, loves the PT, but hat…

So this week I've been hauling a lot of junk into my favorite scrap metal yard, Ace Iron and scrap. Weird group of cars there... A group of Alfa Sedans...a bunch of older Benzes, from the 80's and 90's, some odd stuff... A Suburban with 24" expensive wheels that was in decent shape, expensive wheels left on the thing when it went to the crusher for some odd reason... A really clean 944 Porsche, that had a claw put through it's roof... Several clean FWD Cadillacs. a few with low mileage and nice... Several Jags... A WRX (2004ish) that had been built into a rally car of sorts....was crushed, so I couldn't get a good look at the cage...but somebody had a bad day racin…

Thought I'd make a thread about cars one doesn't see all that often... and are somewhat inconspicuous that just appeal to one for some reason. Rare? Exotic? Expensive? Not necessarily. For me... I'll start off with something that's not a 240SX.... 86-89 Celicas.

You guys all know by now that I have no sound on this machine, so I need a favor. This is a live version of a song I love, and I'm wondering if the sound is any good. I posted it elsewhwere and I'd hate to be doing the band a disservice.

* My "car season" may be winding down quicker than expected, but it sure has been a weird summer, at least compared to the last few years. For the first time in over 5 years, I've attended cruise nights regularly, 5 nights in a row at one point. Last year I gave some friends of mine a crack pipe for Christmas. Neither of them are what you would call a crack head. The husband has never so much as drank alcohol, his wife was a bit of a pothead when I first met her (I've known her longer than him) but she doesn't do it now. Its in a box somewhere now, I thought they should have put it on the tree as an ornament.

Last night I had a deusey of a dream. It all came back to me in the shower this morning. I was naked and walking, when I came upon a car dealership. It was made up of 3 lots, each with a small sales office. The cars were all non-descript, of different brands and model years, but it was a new car dealership (seemingly in decline). I entered one of the buildings. No one cared or acknowledged I was naked, and I was not embarrassed at all. It was dark, with a 1970's, dark brown pleather and chrome decor. I looked at racks of brochures, and left. Groups of cars were parked in patterns randomly on the lots, I was just browsing, when I came upon something that piqued m…

Just got back from our dealer and we will likely be rolling in a W-Body by the end of the week. The Buick we initially came down to see was sold on Saturday but we saw a 2007 Impala on the Used Lot that was built less than six months ago and only had 11K Kms (6500 miles) on it, so we figured what the hell, seems like the right car and the price is right so we're gonna buy it (pending my mother's approval). It's Dark Silver Impala LS with Graphite Cloth interior and Wood Interior trim. It's also got alloys, spoiler, XM Radio, OnStar, Bucket Seats w. Floor Shift, Remote Start, Those neat folding rear seat cushion things (I don't know what they're called), and Leather Wra…

I have some unfortunate news for you all. BV has gone off the deep end. I hear that his PC pushed him to it. It always gave him a hard time. Please keep an eye out for him, anyways. He has gone crazy and is likely to freak out at any of you. If he does, here is a dart gun. Use it for its purpose only if he does. Be careful. As he runs through the forest, he yells and screams for the pain to stop. He can't stand the feeling as he trips over a log. He falls whi…

Well I set up my office on Friday. I hung the Ancient Egyptian papyruses and placed the various Egyptian gods and goddesses thoughout my office. As those here that know me well I am quite the Egyptophile, however everyone wanted to touch and feel my "Bob", They liked to see me wobble it. I was very surprised. This was a Christmas gift from my wife last year. See my "Bob" here: http://www.brookstone.com/store/product.asp?pid=532994
