Razorba - the shaver for backs! December 13, 2005 Stand in front of the mirror when you get up tomorrow morning and you’ll notice more than a few reminders that man descended from the apes – an unhealthy disposition when threatened and a liberal sprinkling of hair are the most obvious. Males of the species range from growing hair on their heads to hair all over their body and personal grooming preferences often necessitate shaving some or all of this hair regularly. We’ve already covered the shaver designed specifically for shaving heads, and now there’s an equally ingenious shaving accessory for shaving your back – until now, everybody has had to employ the indulgence…

I'm home today because my 2 y-o old (Justin) has pink eye, an ear infection and swollen glands (sore throat). No way he's going to day care!!! Anyway, we watched CARS for the umpteenth time today, and each time I watch it I try to look at what cars have made it into the movie. Here's what I've observed and found through some brief Internet searching: Lightning McQueen: modified Ford GT40 Cruisin McQueen: repainted in the colors of the Corvette from the TV seires "Route 66" Ramone: 1959 Chevrolet Impala Luigi: 1959 Fiat 500 Guido: ISO Isetta Doc Hudson: 1951 Hudson Hornet Sheriff: 1949 Mercury Fillmore: '60s VW Microbus Sarge: 1945 Ford GPW or a Willy…

With all that has happened to me in the past two years... especially in the first 2 1/2 months of 2007... I need to find a way to relax. My mind spins faster than an NOSed S2000 engine peddle to the metal. I find it very difficult to clear my mind. I'm starting to make mistakes... very simple mistakes... often. The constant mental distraction is.... well... distracting. Any advice you guys might have could be helpful.

Yahoo, reprinted a story by "The Street" that covers the top 10 WORST auto's ever in the world. Seems 8 of the top 10 are right here in the US. Look at the 10 and tell me if you agree. They start by saying #10 is the 1979 Oldmobile Station wagon Diesel and end with the #1 worst Pontiac Aztek. The pictures are in the order of the story. Their justification is interesting. Some of it I do feel is personal experiance versus actual fact, but each person is entitled to their opinion. http://autos.yahoo.com/news/10-worst-cars-of-all-time-revisited-012257791.html;_ylt=Al5rVgaNjh2_MKSMECEr4nImhvZ_;_ylc=X3oDMTduaWFhdTdlBF9TAzIxNDY4NjI2MzAEYWN0A3RpdGxlBGN0A3N…

As promised months ago here's the two 59 Buicks that are slowly returning back to nature in a Junkyard in New England. The cars are saddly waaaaaaay past saving and as a matter of fact they're almost useless even for any parts. Tomorrow I'll try to get around to posting some more classic car pics from this "outdoor car museum", many of them from the 1930s & 1940s. The location of this junkyard is a family secret of XPs & I feel priviledged to have earned his "trust" enough for him to share it with me. It's amazing to see several hundred "classics" just siting in the middle of the woods. The proprietors of this salvage yard are true heroes of mine…

just saw a list of the worst cars out there and low and behold 4 of the 10 are from GM: Escalade, Aveo, Colorado, and Canyon so much for GM and it's we make reliable cars and trucks. But I am glad to see as usual Buick is not on there. GM should take a page out of Buick and make them the top dog and move Chevy, and Cadilac at the bottom where they belong.

My apparent stupidity has taken the life of one unsuspecting Jetta. I was on my way to work this morning and I ended up totaling my car. I wasn't rushing or in a hurry, I was on time. The roads weren't any worse than what has been regular this winter, from my perspective. I drive this same road every day on my way to work. I left around 8:40 am. I came upon this one sharp curve and I oddly misjudged it for the conditions and traveled around it a bit too fast, causing my front tires to slide. By then, I noticed a snow plow coming the opposite direction as I exited the turn, but I kept sliding towards the center of the road. There wasn't anywhere for him to go and I was …

It never fails; Some online publication will create a 'Worst Cars of all Time' list that, seemingly, is pulled right out of their ass. Edmunds Inside Line may have just topped them all with their recent list of "100 Worst Cars of all Time". It's almost as if the IL editor in chief asked one of their writers to come up with the most controversial list possible. It's even complete with captions that are trying too hard to top Jeremy Clarkson's writing 'snark'. The list is simply beyond bad, filled with anything that isn't some variation of vanilla. That's not to say there aren't vehicles on the list that deserved their designation; there are a great many, but some of the ch…

Only about a half dozen times in my life have I found myself so depressed, angry, despondent, miserable & distressed that even cars & car related activities did not lift my spirits... even thoe sight of a '69 Camaro or a '50s Cadillac did not put a smile on my face. I have reached rock bottom in my life. I'm really so upset and have been of the past two days I can not even acomplish basic tasks like basic math. Marcia (girlfriend of 4 years) has as of two days ago told me that we are through. Over. Done. Not even a chance in hell that she will make an effort at our relationship. It's now been six consecutive years that I've attended the North American International Auto Show. Two years ago, not long after the start of the country-wide recession, I posted a review of the show which revealed the automotive depression running deep into the veins of all those in this industry. Last year, this disheartening feeling was so bad that I didn't even post a review. Although Ford was doing better, GM and Chrysler had just been bailed out by the government and their future existence still seemed to be somewhat up in the air. Porsche, Nissan, and others skipped out on the show completely, and the most expensive car at the show was tucked inconspicuously in a l…

A page goes over the PA system at school (work) yesterday afternoon (12/22) for the owner of a black Cadillac to contact the main office. My office is next door, so I walked over to find out what was up. I was told that my boss, the school's principal, hit my car as he was pulling out of his parking space (we were both backed in, my car parked on his right). He claims that he was looking left to make sure no one was coming as he turned the wheel to the right and he clipped the left front corner of my car with his Dodge Ram pickup (the bed in front of his right rear wheel is what caught onto my car). He claims to have hit my car and stopped, backing up as to not block …

So I saw an ad for a Fiat 500L Urbana Edition the other day and while I can say it is not my cup of tea at all, it got me thinking about cars I do like that I am at least a little bit ashamed to admit to. I thought it might be a fun and interesting topic. To keep it timely, lets say it has to be a vehicle that was produced within the last 5 years. It does not have to be sold in the U.S. market for you to post it. Here are a few of mine: Fiat 500X Trekking This is the one I was thinking of when I thought of this topic. I'm not sure why and I can't explain it, but I actually like these little buggers. I'm ashamed to admit I actually like it better than its J…

NEW YORK - Three years after the city banned smoking in restaurants, health officials are talking about prohibiting something they say is almost as bad: artificial trans fatty acids. ADVERTISEMENT The city health department unveiled a proposal Tuesday that would bar cooks at any of the city's 24,600 food service establishments from using ingredients that contain the artery-clogging substance, commonly listed on food labels as partially hydrogenated oil. Artificial trans fats are found in some shortenings, margarine and frying oils and turn up in foods from pie crusts to french fries to doughnuts. Doctors agree that trans fats are unhealthy in nearly any amount, but a …

Out with February, out with winter, out with the Challenger. I will not be seeking an immediate replacement. The used car market in my area is a non-stop barrage of overpriced and high-mileage junk. Yesterday's retail prices have become today's wholesale values. Four-grand will only buy you an unlovable, worn out sedan or SUV with near or at 200,000 miles, a mange-riddled paint job, an arthritic suspension, and a catatonic engine. If you're really lucky, four-grand more will buy you a cramped compact sedan with 70,000 miles that's been built out of pure tapioca and subjected to a previous life of hardcore prostitution. If by the grace of God a realistic deal comes your w…

In the wake of the popularity of the Lambdas and GM's switch to crossovers in favor of minivans, C&D has this on their front page: "Why buy a crossover -- Five concrete reasons to buy a minivan instead." (Including, SURPRISE, GM's best selling Lambda as the poster child for and a subject of the article) LINK: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/14267...-crossover.html Do I think this is a direct result of the Lambdas and their popularity? Probably not. Do I think it might've weighed into C&D's decision to write the piece AND use GM as the poster boy? Absolutely. Notcie how all of the japanese companies are merely tranferred sales from one model to another. Ye…

Power and Associates 2006 Customer Retention StudySM released today. Now in its fourth year, the study measures the percentage of new-vehicle buyers and lessees who replace a previously purchased new vehicle with another from the same nameplate. I never knew GM had so many brands between approx. 1929 and 1931. I have known about LaSalle and Oakland for a while, but I had never heard of Marquette or Viking and the reasons they came into existence. So as I understand it: Chevrolet (basic four cylinders, I6, some V8s) Pontiac-Oakland (Oakland the parent company, Pontiac introduced as the entry level brand for the division to fill the spread between Chevrolet and Oakland. Pontiac had a "light six" and shorter wheelbase, while Oakland had a six cylinder?, V8, and longer wheelbase) Oldsmobile-Viking (Viking slightly upmarket from Olds, both equipped with V8s...Viking was the shortest lived of all the brands) Mar…

Over the past several days I've been thinking of intrigued's new 2012 Mustang GT Premium response in the "Any changes to your "automotive family" soon?" thread and how there is not a vehicle I currently drool over that I could afford now or next year (trust me, I drool over the 2011 GMC Sierra Denali plenty, just cannot afford a new one now or in the near future). I remember in the late '80s through the mid part of this decade always lusting over something attainable. I guess the prices today, the lack of funds and credit on my end, just make it impossible for me to lust over anything much. However, there is something I wish I could have, if offered here in the states,…

Took my first road trip today in the 2012 Cruze 1LT 1.4t 6-speed manual, headed down to (bare-) Assateague State Park about 9 miles from Ocean City, MD. Stopped at WaWa in Ocean City to begin my trip home and filled the car with gas, then accidentally reset the average MPG along with the trip odometer... so I was starting from scratch. I took it as an opportunity. I traveled 186.4 miles from there to my garage... and averaged 47.8 MPG!!! And this is with 700 miles on the engine. Talk about being amazed and delighted, this car just blows my mind. And I emerged from the trip without fatigue, the comfortable seats and quiet, smooth ride kept my ass from aching. Willie…

Well, well, well, where to begin? I guess the main reason I wanted to post this, is to inform those that PM me though this site, you will no longer get a response from me if you use this site to reach me. Do I hate C&G you may be asking yourself? The answer is no, I just love GM Europe (GME) more. As this post shows, I have not been banned by the staff here at C&G from posting, but then I never did anything to warrant such a ban in the 1st place. GME and myself have simply come to an agreement that my posting here has served it's purpose, and it's time for GME and myself to move on, we have much work to do, as you can well imagine, which is why I got promoted,…

I informed him that I don't do guys and he then tried to kiss me on the lips. I pushed him back and informed him again that I don't do guys. Well he started crying and telling me he loves me, I felt bad becuase I don't like seeing my friend cry, but I was all like, man don't feel bad it's just the way things are. He told me to f@#k off and then sped off in his Silverado.

Someone offered me a '78 Camaro rolling chassis for trade on what's left of the Firebird today. I'm seriously thinking about having a project to put away and begin working on when I finish up with the Regal's interior and paint. While I would really like to have a tired old Cutlass to work on and eventually slip the Regal's Rocket 350 into, I'm mulling over pulling the trigger on this particular trade. Winter's getting close and the Firebird has to go as soon as possible. Factor in that I could be moving soon into a house with a nice garage to work in and well ... The Camaro has one big downside: the sheetmetal is full of rust. I'll just let you guys check it out for …

I've always liked listening to ghost stories ever since I was a little kid. I've never actually seen a ghost before or had any ghostly encounters, but they still intrigue me. It's said that late at night here at ISU in the Memorial Union, you can hear low moans in the Great Hall, which has names inscribed upon its marble walls of Iowans who died in WWI and WWII. I haven't actually noticed any noises, but sometimes when passing through there late at night you can feel a slight breeze even though the doors are closed. -------- Also, near the town of Mount Ayr in southern Iowa, there is a small cemetery in the middle of a grove of trees called Tedrow Cemetery. It was from this week's Fifth Gear, and you can download it from BitTorrent or see it on YouTube in a few days, but here's the text and picture online preview. Basically they crashed a '92 Volvo 940 wagon into an '04 Renault Modus supermini. The Volvo weighs 700+ more lbs and is 40" longer than the Renault... Who's packing ERs? Not the uninsured Reuters One in five people in the United States visit an emergency room every year, and most of them have health insurance of some kind, according to a U.S. government survey released on Wednesday. The survey contradicts a common perception that emergency rooms are packed with uninsured people and illegal immigrants. It also rejects some claims that people are using the emergency department for routine care -- just 10 percent of visits were for non-urgent causes. "In 2007, approximately one in five persons in the U.S. population had one or more emergency department visits in a 12-month period," the report from the National Center f…

Sometimes my import oriented friends really get my nerves at times. At one point, one claimed that the Civic Si (a 2006 one BTW) has LSD and it feels like an RWD car. And then the owner of the Civic defends on the tuning of his engine (i.e. 195hp at like near the end of curve, which I find obnoxious) because "it's tuned for racing". He says that the tuning on my G6 (and all Americans as a matter of fact, he's a Honda nut), since the torque and power peaks are at such low RPMs, "will run out of power" when racing. I told him all I know is I don't have to rev all the way up there for a turn or overtaking a bus. And as I mentioned before, my Mazda3 friend still insists…

http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/cto/808179596.html I'm not so big on late 70's "muscle cars," but I have always sorta liked the Pontiac Can-Am. This one is not for the faint of heart, but $1200 seems like sort of a deal if it is indeed a real Can-Am, which all the photographs point to (stripes, rear window louvers, duck tail spoiler, etc.). I'd imagine that just the parts alone would probably be worth it if it were indeed a real one.

Yes this is serious. These are my two favorite new cars out today, but I can only afford one (duh). Given I won't be in the market for one in a couple of years (or sooner if I get restless), I still need to keep myself amused. Yes, need. They will be my DD, keep in my I will have my trucks in case you guys ask about the practicality. Also, I'm 21 and single, if there's ANY time to have an impractical car it's NOW. Basically it's going to go like this: Pro's and Con's for each. Miata Pro's -Weight -Price -Cost of Insurence -MPG's -Better Driver's car -DAMN GOOD LOOKS -Roadster Miata Con's -Size (I fit, though some of my my friends won't) -S…

Option # 1: 1986 Chevrolet Caprice Brougham...2 door. 86k miles. $1550. 1 owner, no rust, never driven in winter. 5.0 auto loaded for an '86. This is a VERY clean car. The guy went so far as to tell me about the two defects on this car: the chrome trim inside the steering wheel is checked...and there is a small scuff on the fender that has rust bubbles starting on. Also it may need exhaust soon (still original!). Selling to get $$$ to rebuild the motor in thier one owner 1970 chevrolet heavy half. Option # 2: 1991 Camaro RS T-top car, 100k miles. Minor rust spots here and there, comes with a slew of extra parts : wheels, nose, t-tops. Runs and drives well. S…

Say if someone calls you up, deliberately disguises their phone number and voice using an app for a jailbroken iPhone, and then threatens you with the following, just to name a few things said: "I'm going to put a gun in your mouth and blow your fucking brains out if you don't apologize." "I'm going to wreck all of your fucking cars and burn your house down." "I'm going to kill you right in front of your parents." You probably do have the means to apply for a restraining order, correct?

What, to you, is the best noise you've ever heard come from a car (or truck)? In your response you should, if possible find a video or sound clip for all of us to hear and enjoy it. I've thought about this one for a while. I love the sound of V8's. Ferrari V8s make some fantastic noise, however I generally prefer a deeper note. Top examples include the Corvette ZR1, Challenger SRT8, Mustang GT500, and V8 Vantage. I love V8's and plan to own one at some point. With that sound, the best sound I have ever heard is none of those. It's not a V8 either. The best sound for me comes from the Lamborghini Murcielago, specifically the LP670-4 SV. The way it revs and howls just mak…

An obese mother in the US is trying to put on weight in order to become the world's fattest woman. Donna Simpson, from New Jersey, weighs 273kg but told the Daily Mail newspaper she had her heart set on reaching her goal weight of 1000lb (450kg) in two years. The 42-year-old already holds the title of the world's fattest mother after giving birth to her daughter in 2007 when she weighed 241kg. "I'd love to be 1000lb ... it might be hard though, running after my daughter keeps my weight down," Ms Simpson told the Daily Mail. Ms Simpson, who needs a mobility scooter to go shopping, eats huge amounts of junk food each week and tries to move as little as possible so she d…

I was thinking about the consistency with which I liked GM brands. I was looking through a classic Pontiac magazine at Borders last night. Pontiacs had the most interesting styling, both externally and internally. - My Dad's 70 LeMans coupe (with an inline six) looked better than Cutlass/Skylark/Malibu of the same year. - Except for 77-78, I always liked the Firebird over the Camaro. - The 70s and 80s Cutlass Supremes were cleaner, but the Grand Prix and Grand Le Mans had commendable Pontiac grilles and dashboards. - Pontiac put out nicer full-sizes in the 70s and 80s than did the competition, particularly in 75 and 76 when the Grand Ville and Bonneville sporte…

Hey, guys (and gals). I thought I would drop a line and say hi (for those who care) just to say that I have not dropped off the face of the earth - just the face of the northern hemisphere. I don't need to tell any of you regulars how bad things are for GM in North America. The dealer where I worked for almost 10 years closed its doors a year ago and I was forced to jump ship. Being a loyal Chevy fan, I joined another old, established Chev dealer in Toronto - and boy is that a dying breed. Things were going great through the summer, and then when GMAC cancelled leases (43% of my portfolio in 2007), coupled by all the bankrupcy news in the Fall of last year - well,…

I understand the concept that everyone gets to choose what they really love to drive... But it blows my mind that so many people, working at GM for many years, choose from the dark side. Of course, if YOU were scooping up a nice GM check and benefits, ya think you could find ONE vehicle in the GM stable to drive to work??? At the Tech Center in Warren, they have designated parking decks in which only vehicles of the GM family can park. The other guys have to park aways out, and brave the elements to trudge all the to the bldg. Some losers drive crappy ricers and park close anyway, where they shouldn't. One guy drives a hOnDa eLeMenT with the gray plastic everywher…

2007 IIHS Subcompact Crash Test Results Subcompact cars, an increasingly popular choice among drivers, fared poorly in new crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Not surprisingly, the small cars did especially poorly in crashes with large SUVs and trucks, according to results released today. But deaths in small cars also were higher in single-vehicle crashes, compared to larger vehicles. The only small vehicle to get good safety marks across the board was the subcompact Nissan Versa, which is slightly larger than competing mini or B-car vehicles, but is marketed alongside the others. Five of the seven cars tested by the insurance instit…

I guess the first question should be: Do you listen to radio much anymore? With the advent of CDs, satellite radio, iPODS, etc., virtually everyone can create their very own radio station, personalized with no commercials. This means that the "basic" radio stations, especially those that have to air a lot of commercials, are losing listeners. For me, one who loves radio, that is kind of sad...especially since it is kinda cool to hear an older song on the radio that brings back memories, even if the whole world has forgotten. Yeah, it's cool to hear it on the iPOD, too, but when you hear it on the radio, you KNOW you aren't the only one hearing it at that given tim…

At two points in my life, such as between undergrad and grad, I've taken the Myers-Briggs Personality type test. Mine came in both times as ESTJ (that's extrovert - sensing - thinking - judging) It is the classic profile of someone who is traditional, just-the-facts, analyzes everything, and in a management-type job. It is also the personality profile of 16% of the male population. I've seen my chart and I only slightly tilt toward extrovert, as I can be introverted at times. The polar opposite would be INFP (introvert - intuitive - feeling - perceiving) - this type of person would probably drive me nuts and I've had a couple of people of INFP types work for me wh…

Ramp Chevrolet in Port Jefferson, NY had its biggest (and probably last) car show of the year today. Corvettes and Camaros of all ages were the main attraction, with the show being sponsored by Long Island-based Camaro and Corvette owner's clubs. The perfect weather and the fact that Ramp is about 5 miles from my house made this an opportunity for a nice midday bike trip. I tie the bike to a telephone pole and walk into the north end of the lot, where all the Camaros are. Right where I park the bike is a gorgeous sunset orange Z28 - for sale no less: I then head on over to the north lot, where most of the Camaros are. First stop: the first gens.

When I talk to someone about buying American cars, the subject always falls back to "I bet the TV that you are watching in not made in America, so what's wrong with owning a Camry?" There is only one response to this "apples/oranges" retort; "If there was an American made TV, I would buy it. But our government and big business has sold out almost EVERY manufacturer to other countries, that I CANNOT BUY an American made and owned TV, even if I wanted to." As far as vehicles go (probably the second largest purchase most of us dwindling middle-class Americans will make) I can make a conscious effort to purchase a car from an American-owned company, one of the last items w…

The 3rd annual Keeneland carshow was today. Featured make was the Corvette, all makes and trims welcome for the Corvette, so there were supposedly over 200 Vettes at the show. I took pictures of the classic ones, since any of us can usually walk outside and see a C4/C5/C6. Strangely, there were no C6 Z06's, which struck me as odd. Also at the show were 5 Corvette Concepts on loan from the GM Heritage Museum: Mako Shark, Mako Shark 2, Aerovette, Sting Ray 2 and Sting Ray 3. BEAUTIFUL cars. Here are my pictures!

Since my mom got the boot from England (visa issues) she's back home and the 'rents have only one viable, working vehicle, the L200. Maybe they'll let me park it somewhere and charge people $5 to hit it with a baseball bat, since thats what the POS deserves. Anyways, since mom couldn't bring her Opel back from the UK, they're going to need another car. State considers charging by the mile Isabel Mascarenas 4 days ago St. Petersburg, Florida - Motorists are fueling up less often these days. Some are buying fuel efficient cars, while others are simply driving less. That means every gallon that sits in a gas station's pump is money the state loses in taxes for road projects, an estimated $7 billion over the next five years. Instead of raising the gas tax, some state transportation officials are considering charging motorists based on the miles they drive. Keith Craig says it seems like a good idea, "The general idea seems to be fine for retirees who don't drive too much." This is how the program would work: a GPS t…

How often do those things break down anyway?

Camaro Crucifixion, Take Three: The Chromaro Proves Chrome Is Forever by black-knight, C&G Editor/Reporter 16th, May, 2011 The onslaught of Camaro-focused brutality refuses to let off of the throttle, leaving the bowtie pony car to continue to suffer for the sins of car customization. Last week we brought you a prematurely ragged out fifth-generation Camaro and Trans Am Depot's Ponmaro GTO thing. This week, a couple of crazy Czechoslovakian dudes have decided to wrap a -- you guessed right -- fifth-generation Camaro completely in chrome, which if you didn't know, is to a man what diamonds are to a woman and both are forever. This morning I get a call asking for a favor. His Pilot has broken down and could I take him to work. Apparently all the idiot lights came on and he's stuck in limp home mode doing 25mph. Pilot 43,000 miles -limping home with all dash lights lit Avalanche 84,000 miles - oil changes and tires only, taking his ass to work So the day after Thanksgiving, he gets to eat crow.
