I have to share my excitement. I'm going to Punta Cana next month. This will be my first time going out of the country (other than Canada), and my first time flying since I went to Disney World in '95. This will also be my first all-inclusive vacation. I hope I gain ten pounds So, where are you guys going?

First off, I'm pretty shocked that I was not the cause for my own thread to get locked. I must be slacking. Second, those of you who showed respect for critical thinking & keeping an open mind & sharing your opinion in an era quite possibly as volatile & unpredictable as any in the history of mankind, Thank You. Now for just a little something to satisfy Dodgefan's curiosity: My wife Julie alerted me to this the other day. A friend of hers in another state contacted her Congressman about the upcoming Codex Alimentarius proposals (as in: the locked thread) Some of you will read between the lines, others will dismiss…

...but not selling a whole lot: Collier Motors sits on Highway 117 in Pikeville, North Carolina. Its owned by Robert Collier, whose family sold American Motors cars and its predecessors at least back from the 1950s. AMC was bought out by Renault in 1982 and apparently Collier didn't want anything to do with being owned by a French car manufacturer, so he apparently disassociated from them and went on his own selling his inventory of AMCs. Needless to say, he didn't sell many, so fe in fact, what was left of his stock of AMCs and other (used?) cars sat...and sat...and sat...and rusted into place while the lot grew over with vegatation. These are relatively recen…

Hello all, this is my first review ever of anything, and it's about a burger sold by the Golden Arches here in Canada as the mighty Angus. Angus.... So. Let's start with the presentation. Very nice exterior, classy lines, and I love the brown paint on the bun. The seed pattern is very stylized and reminds me of perforated leather. It starts great, and it continues nicely. The lettuce was full of colour, clearly they thought of the rendering of the foliage and the colour saturation of the greens. But I'm not sure this is 4K, I'd say it's more of a judder-free 60hz 1080p. Alright, so the sauce. very viscous, smoky sweet, probably some diesel soot colo…

I saw this trade-in sitting behind my local Chevrolet dealer and I decided to check it out. It is fully loaded, with the supercharger, auto transmission with normal or perform shift and it is As Is. It doesn't look to have any rust on the body and the paint is in good condition except for some normal chipping. The seats aren't ripped as they are leather and tend to in older GMs. They are selling it for $900 and it has only 209,000kms which is about 127,000 miles. What do you think? Should I go for it? My dad really likes it as well but we need to make sure how it would be on insurance. It will be more expensive because of the supercharger. It is black on beige, has CD and…

This is my 'Save The Buick' jar. All the money I've put toward my '59 to date (and it's a lot) has been side money, or non paycheck money.... except for dimes. 2nd largest coin denomination (who regularly sees half- or whole dollar coins?), and not as 'in demand' around here as quarters. I found this Ball mason jar in the woods behind my house, and it had character (chipped mouth, what looks like a BB hole in one side). I've emptied it numerous times, so I know about how much it holds.... but anyone wanna make a guess how much is in here?

'Living sculpture' meant to raise awareness about global warming' BETTMERALP, Switzerland - Hundreds of naked people formed a “living sculpture” on Switzerland’s Aletsch glacier Saturday, hoping to raise awareness about climate change. The photo shoot by Spencer Tunick, the New York artist famous for his pictures of nude gatherings in public settings worldwide, was designed to draw attention to the effects of global warming on Switzerland’s shrinking glaciers. “The melting of the glaciers is an indisputable sign of global climate change,” said the environmental group Greenpeace, which co-organized the event. It said most Swiss glaciers will disappear by 2080 if glob…

A lot of people over at the Skyscraperpage.com forums that I sometimes visit have been predicting this for a while, and I wouldn't be suprised if more and more cities begin building up downtown areas and inner suburbs. I know Des Moines and Omaha are both experiencing a huge housing boom downtown with new lofts and condos going up everywhere. Old inner city 'burbs like Windsor Heights are also getting built up. Some people are also saying this will be the reverse white flight...gentrification will cause real estate to skyrocket in downtown and inner city areas, forcing poorer people out. What's amazing is that most other countries, especially in Latin America and Euro…

Good op-ed piece this morning from the New York Times about this strange state...(bolded items are points I thought were particularly interesting). Desert Derangement Syndrome PHOENIX Driving south from the high, age-worn plateau of northern Arizona, where the earth seems to have turned itself inside-out, I pulled over to take in the full sweep and wonder of this place during one of its better moments. The infinity of sky, the open gallery of sandstone masterpieces it never fails to amaze. Arizona is full of ancient communities the Hopi, the Papago, the Havasupai, the Navajo and outsized geology, with the Painted Desert, the Superstition Mountains and the big …

... when you obsess on something, something historically documented, and you uncover some facts that could easily 'color' the chain of events of said history? I've heard more than one supposed 'expert' voice their take on said history, and this has never been mentioned. It's secondary, not primary, but in my experience/observations over time, facts such as these tend to carry a lot more weight than one might assume. Certainly, it speaks toward motivation. I almost want to start up a website, because there is no authoritative source online to just 'give' it to...

Here is the question-you are producing a big bucks Hollywood movie with a script you've written. The villan/anti-hero dies at the end in a brutal car wreck that ends his (or her) life and the life of the car in a spectacular fashion. What would be a great, sinister car to blow up? Here are my thoughts- 1. Modern Porsche (cayman perhaps) painted black. 2. Suicide door moredoor lincoln from the 1960's, again, black. Would hate to destroy a vintage car, but we could use a Parts car as a stand in. Great anti hero car, suprised it hasen't been used more. 3. What else? 69 Charger R/T. Every other 69 Charger ever made has been destroyed in movies-TV, why not anoth…

Sooooooo had a root-canal at the dentist yesterday due to a cracked tooth. I hate the dentist. I'd rather get 500 tetanus shots & 500 MRIs than go in for ANYTHING at the dentist. My teeth are wicked sensitive and I have had some horror-movie experiences at the dentist. SERIOUSLY. Blood and all! So anyway I'm a little delusional, maybe that explains the following: I'm considering buying Julie a FWD car, on my own accord. Let me repeat myself: I'm considering buying a FWD car. Scary I know. It's a topsy-turvy world out there. Either way she's doing a lot of complainign a bout the the size of the RoadmOnster, esp. the width. B-bodys got some WIDE…

I just signed up and noticed all of you who rant and rage concerning buickman and his ideas re: GM ? He believes in GM and wants them to return to greatness, attends the shareholder meetings - has a plan for GM, starts generalwatch etc... All I know about most of the others is that you sit and complain --- what have YOU done?? Maybe its easy to be a SIX time salesman of the year for Buick in the country and MAYBE NOT --- have you done anything that compares ? All I've seen in my very short time here is complaining regarding him - its easy to sit and type isn't it? I would like to be # 1 - you should listen and learn that atleast. I look forward to your comment…

Delta Charges U.S. Troops Returning From Afghanistan $2,800 In Baggage Fees WASHINGTON -- Delta Air Lines is facing intense criticism after charging 34 U.S. soldiers returning from Afghanistan $2,800 in baggage fees. The incident came to light on Tuesday after a couple of the new-media savvy soldiers recorded a video about their ordeal and posted it on YouTube. "We showed up and found out we had too many bags," said Army Staff Sgt. Robert O'Hair in the video, which was shot on their flight. "We had four bags, and Delta Air Lines only allows three bags. Anything over three bags you have to pay for, even though there's a contract between the United States government and …

Peter Egan wrote an article in Road & Track a few years back about this topic. What is YOUR current cylinder count? A few weeks ago my cylinder count was: 1984 Dastun Maxima "Zwei" (w/sunroof): 6 1984 Dastun Maxima parts car: 6 1959 Buick LeSabre: 8 1964 Oldsmobile Super 88: 8 1977 Cadillac Coupe deVille: 8 1996 Volvo 850: 5 1997 Cadillac STS parts car: 8 TOTAL: 49 The Volvo, Super 88, Maxima "Zwei" & Coupe deVille are now gone, BUT I have acquired two more cars... When I was unsure about my sexuality... well, more or less unwilling to admit that I was gay, I had my fair share of girlfriends. Well, as I looked in the local Newspaper, I notice one that I probably would have ended up going out with again if I had turned out to be straight. It was for the upcoming Laurel Queen Pageant for Brookville's annual Laurel Festival. My jaw dropped as I saw her pic and read about her... My, how I have ignored what a talented and beautiful woman she has grown into. But, I'm gay... and I'd have it no other way. Still... for the breeders... That is a CD of mine. I'm not sure how it got like that. I hope it's repairable. It plays... sort of. The first half of the CD endlessly skips, jumps, etc. Only my computer actually plays it. The second half sounds unscathed for the most part. I'd like to atleast rip this CD onto my pc so I could make a new copy of it. I just wonder if I can repair it enough to be able to do that, atleast. Any suggestions?

Finally am getting back out in my shop. I've spent a couple hours for 3 nights cleaning thru stuff & throwing things away, and tonight I began the process of pouring a concrete 'curb' around the inside perimeter of my building. This is because when the floor was originally poured, the bordering form wood to control the pour has rotted over time, and mice have been sneaking in. I hate mice. Anyway, the perimeter is lined with all sorts of stuff, primarily car parts but some outright junk, and I want it all either stored off the floor or sold/tossed. I got only 10-ft done tonight (perimeter is about 110' (24'x48' building with (4) car doors), but chalk that up to getti…

Another favorite of mine is the Albizia Julibrissin (Japanese Mimosa or Silk Tree). It is the main attraction of my front lawn in summer. The Albizia Julibrissin with its delicately scented flowers is an attractive exotic plant for the garden. Long stamen make the flowers look like a pink powder puff. Also, the pinnately (feather-like) divided leaves add to the elegant appearance of the tree. At night or in case of drought the leaves fold together (hence its common name ‘sleeping tree’ in some languages), by day they unfold again and offer a shady place to relax.

This will be the first time in my life, I'll celebrate the upcoming Holidays without my father. My father died yesterday morning, and a piece of me died with him. It's funny, when I was a small child my father's word was law in our house, and I feared him. As a teen, I defied him, as a young adult in my 20's, I understood him and respected him, and as I entered my 30's, my father became my friend. As the eldest child of three boys, I feel lucky in the fact that I had the most time with my father. Time I would not trade for all the money in the world. My father and I had a simple and loving relationship, you see he suffered a devastating stroke last year which left h…

ok, I made the last payment on the Aztek! Mine free and clear! Woo. Hoo. I had hoped by now to have sold or traded it, but such is not yet possible. It may be a few more months. And with the car markets the way it has been, the GM and Chrysler bailouts, the economic crash, prices skyrocketing on new and used, it kind of has blunted my enthusiasm on cars all around. But, with a little luck down the road maybe by the time the 2010's wind down and the 2011's trickle in, I may have the opportunity to get something. New for me means a new car or slightly used or even a used one that is just a great deal and has plenty of life left in it. The Taurus X is the othe…

The second owner (a bishop at a local church who has bought a few cars from us) had some work done to it and its in great running condition. Original, blemish-free paint, great interior, and so on. Just a thought....

We all like talking about food. It's too hard to construct a mutliple-choice poll for this, so I'm just listing the food I like. 1) Italian food - some of it is better than an orgasm 2) Greek food - a lot of Middle Eastern food is equally good - there are some awesome Greek combo platters caution: there is some bad Greek food out there and, if it's lamb, it has to be fresh and not gamy 3) American food - reliable The food I can't stand is of the variety that will make you "keel over" from the smell when you walk into the place that serves it - Ethiopian, Indian and Thai Your favorite food(s)? (What foods don't you like?)

http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...?showtopic=8529 First off, way to go Croc and Charger. Way. To. Go. Anyhow, I would like to apologize for starting a topic that turned into, well, an offensive thread more or less. I just thought that it was just pretty crazy that you could find a piegon to eat in China and not a single turkey in sight. (And it was Food Channel or something. It had to do with people...and sausages...and shipping them overseas...I can't honestly remember now.) Sorry if I'm just doing the following: I just don't anyone to make me out to some racist, pompus asshole. Sorry.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) - A Canadian judge ruled Thursday that a man accused of beheading and cannibalizing a fellow Greyhound bus passenger is not criminally responsible due to mental illness. The decision means Chinese immigrant Vince Li will be treated in a mental institution instead of going to prison. The family of victim Tim McLean dismissed the trial as a "rubber stamp" that allows Li to get away with murder. "A crime was still committed here, a murder still occurred," said Carol deDelley, McLean's mother. "There was nobody else on that bus holding a knife, slicing up my child." The judge said Li should not be held criminally accountable for stabbing McLea…

Hey everybody, Well, my first car(1995 Chevy Beretta Z26!! - It was purple) that was handed down to my brother has been sitting a lot the last year and when running something new is wrong almost all of the time. Well, my brother has been in college and he will still be for the next couple of years but now he will be bringing his car with him as he has an apartment and lives a little further from campus next year. Well, my dad is looking for a car for him in the 5-7k price range. Nothing fancy, special, literally just something cheap and reliable and hopefully less than 100k miles. That's the hard part,,miles and price..(as with any used car purchase). Now, I know he d…

Okay, so here's the deal: Little background info: I have enormous tonsils... like the biggest any doctor has ever seen (it is directly related to hoohah size from what I hear :AH-HA_wink: ) Anyway, I also have a severe deviated septum... and severe sleep apnea. I can't use the machine, because my nose doesn't allow enough air to pass through it (literally my entire right nostril is closed), for me to breathe at night. Doctors have recommended I have the tonsils removed and the septum opened. This is coming from 3 different doctors. And all 3 say to do it at the same time, because the real risk in surgery is the anesthesia. My mother however, of course, must fi…

It's a pretty odd thing to say at 22 (almost 23), but I've been feeling more and more that way lately. I just found out tonight that one of my good friends from high school is engaged, another friend is getting married in June, two others are engaged, one is now married and having a baby in September, and most of them are starting to graduate from college and get jobs in the real world. I still have a year left due to my five-year program, single currently, and don't have a permanent job yet (although I'm working again this summer at the same arch firm I was at last summer). It's amazing how much has changed from a year ago...and I'll soon be out of college and living …

We all know that the US market is VERY overcrowded with brands, so leaving the big ones out of it (Toyota and Honda aren't going anywhere) what brands need to disappear? Think of the ones that simply drain away sales from more viable brands and don't have much going for themselves. Who needs to go? And, what would be a "good mix" afterward?

What Makes More Sense? In looking for replacements for the Cavalier, we've narrowed it down to three options. -2007 Cobalt LT/G5 SE Sedan (~20-25K Kms) -2007 G6 V6 (25-30K Km) -2007 Grand Prix (28-30K Km) The Cobalt LT/G5 SE would set back about 12000$, the G6 or Grand Prix 13000$. I know that cars like the Cobalt are the most frequently abused by rental agency clients, even the G6 falls under this category. The allure of a 3800 W-Body is appealing as well. The GP we're looking at is that Grey-Green color with the black cloth interior. The G6 is that Dark Slate color with the 3.5L V6. The Cobalts and G5s are Ultra Silver with the 2.2L L4. I will make cl…

Julie and Silvester have been in the hospital since this A.M., Julie is doing fine as is Silvester, he wanted me to post in here for him when I got home from work. Most recent update from Sly about half an hour ago was "F$#% Amelia is stuck after Julie did a lot of pushing, her heartrate was going crazy, from 74-205bpm. @ 6:49pm she was rushed into the O.R. for C-section" I'm sure by now Silvester is the proud parent of not just one girl, but two! I'll keep you guys updated as soon as I hear any info! Congrats Sly!!! :AH-HA_wink:

I cannot believe how big compacts have gotten today. They are now bigger than a car that was inbetween midsize and compact. Just look. My grandma's Cobalt is bigger than my Grand Am. Not that this is a bad thing, but if I want a compact, I want a compact. Not some vehicle that could be considered a midsize 10 years ago. No wonder it takes so much for a vehicle these days to feel fast... Then again, maybe I'm just stuck in the past like Sixty8... :P

Read this scenario then answer the poll above. I’ve found myself doing this a lot lately and wanted to know if anyone else has this affliction. You are in traffic. A car is looking to get into traffic from a parking lot, side street, etc. in front of you. If the vehicle is a foreign car, do you pull up as close as possible to the car in front of you and huff under your breath, “I’m not letting you in Mr. Honda/Toyota/Acura/Audi/Hyundai/etc. driver!” Do you find yourself more open to letting in a GM, Ford or Chrysler product? It may be weird, but since I spend a lot more time in traffic, I tend to be more courteous to those who drive Domestic vehicles. I am not r…

Notice anything? I've decided to stick a bumper sticker on my Milly. It's unique in that I made it myself. Course, it's an actual bumper sticker, I just had no way of purchasing one like it. So I went into one of my photo editing programs, changed it from black to as close to my Milly's color as I could. Then I printed it out, water proofed it with clear tape, bought some double sided tape, and stuck it my bumper. It's a bit outdated, but atleast it'll get the message across without being obvious like a rainbow sticker or such. I just had to do something to combat the BS I've seen, heard of, and had to deal with in this town.

Before I start, I would like to thank Mr Cubical and Casa for reviving the other Would You Rather Thread with the Vette... And the others that answered it as well.... OK...so... Im at my son's baseball practice Saturday morning watching the kids pitch and catch and stuff when I hear a beautiful rumble from a distance coming from the parking lot. A black 1978 Camaro Z/28. l It was in rough condition, but still very driveable. Many little rust bubbles all around but the body seemed to be in decent shape. T-Tops and white interior. Like this except in black The V8 under the hood made glorious loping sounds...like this: The best I could find that was similar…

I'm having a serious and quite horrible case of buyer's remorse. Today, I got up at eight a.m. and drove through Clay, Jackson, Laurel and Rockcastle Counties with the single hope that I would finally find a junkyard with some decent '80s GM iron. The Monte is in desperate need of new gauges (the speedometer and voltmeter are dead, the tach is going out, and the temp gauge now has a broken needle), new interior trim, a new multifunction lever, and a few miscellaneous engine parts, all of which negatively affect my car. The local junkyards pretty much have nothing. The solitary Monte I found at A&A Auto Parts, the junkyard located just 2 miles away from me, had an…

Apparently yesterday was national gas boycott day. Apparently people are dumb enough to believe that if nobody bought gas on May 15th then prices would go down significantly. I went off on an acquaintance about this today, as she insisted it would work and I insisted that the laws of supply and demand say it wont happen. Things like this make me hate the internet, just a way for morons to get other morons to believe crap that anyone who has taken Econ 101 would know is false.

I'm starting a new website. It will is not going to compete with C&G but rather compliment it. AutoWikipedia I hope that one day, the autowikipedia will be an authorative database on automotive history so that we here at C&G and at forums all over can reference it. There won't be forums like what we have here on C&G, just a large database of our combined knowlage...and as the site grows, hopefully knowlage from users outside of C&G as well. This will be a huge undertaking and I'm hoping I can get a number of you to pitch in on writing articles. In addition, I'll need a few "moderators" to watch out for, and edit, the edit wars that can errupt on Wiki…

Well I walked out of best buy after only being in there for 7 minutes and i walk to my parking spot to erupt in rage, anger, and disbelief. Broken glass and tire marks lined the yellow paint. The Caprice was stolen. I've had stuff stolen and broken into before but this was different. Value means nothing its all personal meaning. I almost shed a tear today. i mean its a 18 year old beater not a new smoking hot Charger SRT8. What sucks is tomorrow morning i leave for some well deserved vacation time. I planned on taking that car too. I cant wait to retire and move away from Michigan I'm tired of it all. it was at Gratiot and 13 mile not even a bad part of Roseville. sigh.. …

I've been called many things, but I found this one interesting... I was walking out of kroger's with a few things... I was behind a well-to-do couple.. They watched me walk to my car-and open the door...as I start putting stuff in- I hear-"Man, the white trash gets worse here every day.." and they drive away in their 300... I was like- Granted-I'm sure nobody looks great after a 12 hour day- but bash on my beater? It's a little rusty-but it's clean inside and out-and shiney too, after a good wax last week...I take care of all my cars-regardless.... Those of you with "older" cars-do people ever make fun of them? *shakes head* Dumb people....

Bought for $1500 in 1956, driven only 603 miles, then garaged for unknown reasons (with 9800 original miles), it has recently been sold (undisclosed amount). Mostly complete, it needs a complete re-do. Rust & mice are never mindful of history, unfortunately. Some sort of impact of unknown force poked out it's Cyclop's Eye. Hopefully & assumedly, it will be restored, as Tuckers have now cleared 7 digits in the collector arena. Neat to see a 'rumored' one re-debut.
