Why not Cali? Because I think my parents are afraid of flying although they won't admit to it. But, now I've got questions to ask of you guys.. I'm hoping to convince my parents to go sometime next year, in 2008. However, before I present the proposition to them, I want some core facts on dates, costs, and a good overall vacation…

As I see the new Lexus (help me out on the model number), the Maxima/Altima and now the 2010 LaCrosse, I think the short stubby rear deck lid is, for the most part, hideous. They are sedans, not fastbacks. Not only that, it makes most of the trunk hidden, whereas with a "normally" proportioned rear trunk lid, you can actually look down at things from eye level and move them in, out or around. Maybe, in a rare instance, they might be ok, but mostly they are not ok in my book. Your thoughts/vote?

I've been an advocate of RWD my whole life, but the upcoming Monte Carlo SS, I gotta admit, has me dreaming. My latest scheme is this... How about a white one with Ebony cloth interior (too bad there's no blue) and I'd add blue tape stripes around the bottom exactly like the '83 (except for the lettering)? For some odd reason I'd love to see what that would look like. Does that sound 80's retro cool or hopelessly tacky? Don't hold back, tell me what you really think, and while we're at it, are there any other new cars you'd like to see with retro graphics treatments? How about an '06 Mustang "King Cobra" taped out l…

Anyone else ever check to see if they had any registered sex offenders living around them? I did today and guess what? 3 doors down from me, a couple more within 3 miles of me. Yikes. Also, if you ever get really bored and look at all the listings you'll see a lot of creepy old guys and the occasional unnattractive woman. We live in a scary world.

So my aunt came over for Christmas as always, but she wasn't sure she was going to make it on Christmas Eve, as her Subaru Outback wouldn't start, but finally turned over after an hour's delay. She drove it here and it made it, and then it started fine on Christmas and the day after, when we took it to the dealer's service department. While it was in service being looked at, we went out looking. First up was the CR-V. For some reason she thinks their cute, and I guess we all have our own opinions. She thought it was what she really wanted, and had high hopes. She picked out one she liked (sticker was $28.5k) and we were on our way. We both thought it was terrible. Harsh…

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the impact the man had on music and what he was attempting to do, but Bob Dylan could not: a.) sing, b.) play guitar, c.) play harmonica, or d.) write consistently good lyrics (which are as deep as a supermodel is shallow). If the local classic rock station plays "Like A Rolling Stone" one more time, I'm going to shove Bob's harmonica down his neck.

clicky they've been in talks to get one on a network over here... can't be the same, but hopefully they'd find some people to best replace hammond and the guys the best they could. it mentions the stig would still race the cars.

  76. I was wondering if this scenario has ever happened to any of you? Have you ever deliberately parked next to the same model as your own, or has someone ever parked next to you with the same car? I think it's cool when someone parks next to you with the same car or vise versa.

Linkity LONDON (AFP) - Troubled soul singer Amy Winehouse kicked off her 17-date tour with a shambolic performance that saw fuming fans booing and marching out, reports said Thursday. The concert at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, was a chance for the 24-year-old to get back to singing and put her woes behind her. Winehouse has had "health issues" -- widely reported to be drug and alcohol abuse -- and her party-loving husband Blake Fielder-Civil is being held on grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice charges. But Wednesday's gig at the NIA, which can hold up to 13,000 people, was slammed by angry fans as a "disgrace" after she…

We had to put one of dogs to sleep today...our Australian Terrier rescue, Nauti (there is a long story behind the name), which we rescued 2 1/2 years ago on my sister's birthday (got her from the county shelter, was a stray due to be euthnanized), had a bad seizure this morning..she'd been undergoing chemo treatement for almost a year and her quality of life had been diminishing. As an aside, I think adopting dogs w/ my sister from local rescues and doing volunteer work w/ the rescues has made me a better person.

  81. Hello All, We'll my coworker Chris has been all about Toyota, He bought a Prius and then when the Highlander came out in Hybrid form, he bought it. Now Chris while over all happy with his auto's was a bit disappointed in the milage out of his Highlander, he actually figured it would be just like his Prius. But unlike me and my Suburban, he has allways taunted me as a destroyer of the enviornment here in Seattle and how much better he was for having his hybrids. Now Electrical hell is starting to haunt him. His Highlander has almost 20K miles on it and it seems to always be going into the shop for little repairs. But the big story is what you all want to hear. H…

You can look at certain days of the year in Wikipedia, and it will tell you all the historical things that happened on that day in various years. My birthday seems to be fairly significant in American history, a few times. Interesting... June 19: * 1846 - The first baseball game under recognizable modern rules is played in Hoboken, New Jersey, United States. * 1862 - U.S. Congress prohibits slavery in United States territories, nullifying the Dred Scott Case. * 1865 - Over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves in Galveston, Texas, United States, are finally informed of their freedom. The anniversary is still officially celebrated in Tex…

Paulie's "Edmunds" Review: 1992 Buick Century When most people think of a family sedan, they think of the Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, the Hyundai Elantra, or even a Ford Aspire, but many fail to consider Buick's Century (because we tell them not to). The Century, part of an aging design on a decrepit body, using GM's tried-and-true, super-old crappy, err, I mean OHV, 3300 engine, is just one of the offered engines in the lineup. Families trying to save a penny here or there can stick with the anemic standard 4-banger (and boy does it bang!), 110-hp engine, but most will opt for the 6. The 3300 delivers 160 mediocre horses, and 185f…

Today, we had to hand in current events for my globalization class, and I turned in the one about the Republicans growing weary of free trade. In my analysis of it, I talked about how free trade was beneficial to keeping a society from becoming stagnant, but how countries that place protectionist policies on their own markets should be countered with protectionist policies here that would promote fairer trade. I also mentioned GM in it and the large effect it had on the economy. So as my professor starting discussing my article with the rest of the class, he misspoke a few things that I said that made it sound like I was for imposing protectionism on everything which i…

Looking for some verified, SPECIFIC dates: When was Saturn announced ? I have a clipping of then-POTUS Reagan driving a GM concept that looks like a red banana, it's captioned as a "Saturn concept", but it's wearing a Bowtie. It bears resmblence to & came after the Chevy Aero 2000, but has an enormous rear overhang: and I seem to remember this 'red banana' being called the "Citation IV" at one point. Could not find an online pic. This pic is from Time, 06-17-85. Have another clipping, undated, that says 'Saturn was announced Thursday', and by the back side- it points to Nov (reports of Oct car sales), I assume this is '85 again. Also, when was Saturn in…

Here's some facts: 1) Three model years ('93, '94, '95) 2) Total production was about 2,200 between all three years 3) Hand-built 4) NOT a "convertible version" of the E320 coupe 5) Uprated 3.0L Inline-6 with about 217hp (versus 177hp in the sedans) 6) Base MSRP (in '94) was about $77,000.....most went for around $80,000 with options I came across this car and it was an absolute STEAL. One of my best friends, who is a dealer/wholesaler, helped me find it. It's got 93,000 miles on it (not that you'd EVER know it) and the interior looks so much like new it's kinda scary. …

I was just thinking the other day about one of my favorite cars and of all my cars i have been through i think my favorite cars was my 1980 Oldsmobile Omega 2 door with the iron duke in a deep black. I remember beating it to death and jumping it off of rail road tracks with friends. I also remember rebuilding the engine when i blew it up. I sold it to my neighbor at the time (1989 ish) for i think $150. The body was still clean and straight. I wish I would of kept that car. Just bored here so i figure i would ask you guys about one of your favorite cars you have ever owned either current or in the past.
