* I haven't posted in a while because I had been back to work full-time & just didn't have the time to "keep up", get enough rest/sleep, remain in Cardiac Rehab, among other responsibilities. But, now, as of 02/23/2012, less than 3 weeks after returning to full-time work after my 11/11/2011 open heart surgery, I find myself ... unemployed. To say I'm stunned/numb is just the tip of the iceberg. I've already started the process of "scaling back" financially (including dropping some sponsorships & donations), have applied for unemployment, & started the process of looking for a new job. The last time this happened (April 2005, due to the Sears/Kmart merger)…

Toyota Buys 5.9% Stake in Isuzu I'm thinking we're going to want to move Isuzu to the "Other Guys" section now... Toyota announced today that it will spend $373 million on a deal with Isuzu that will transfer 5.9% of the truck- and diesel-maker to the giant Japanese automaker. Toyota's goal in purchasing a stake in Isuzu is to bolster its diesel portfolio, which apparently lags behind other major automakers like cross-town rival Honda who announced in September it would have diesel-powered passenger cars for sale in the U.S. within three years. I actually found this on myspace and laughed my ass off at its absurdity. Especially #8. 1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control. 2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children. 3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children. 4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful. 5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed …

Ok so yesterday was like any other long day at work, except I was told I could go home early, which I was happy about, since I was tired, and that earlier in the day it felt like there was something stuck in my throat, just irritating it and making me cough. When I got to the parking lot to leave, I spit was felt like a bit of peanut or something out of my mouth. Didn't bother me, but when I got home and was laying down the inside of my cheek started getting caught on my tooth in back, you know like when you bite your tough or inside of your cheek by accident. It kept happening, and so when I felt around in my mouth, I discovered part of my wisdom tooth, which had only ec…

It seems the forum software has been getting a little FUBAR here lately. First, my account was mysteriously deleted recently. Second, my PM inbox has been acting up and deleting new messages after I respond to them, and there are no copies of the PMs I send in my sent items folder. Third, the site seems to "stall" at times; meaning it doesn't load after a long period of time then re-loads as soon as I hit refresh, although slowly. And now I've been seeing this little oddity ... Anyone been encountering anything strange on the forums here lately?

I've listed it twice on ebay now and gotten lots of watchers, one fool that keeps insisting that it had to have come from the factory with leather seats and chrome wheels and he demands that I put them "back in/on". I'm thinking maybe I won't re-list it again if it doesn't go this time. Maybe I'll just polish it up, put it up on jackstands, cover it , and try to forget I own it for a few years.

Every once in a while, fleeting mentions of golf and golfing come up on the site. Yes, I see how it would nice be to walk scenic manicured courses as you go out to a golf outing. But that's where it stops. I've never really had an opinion of golf (other than indifference), but that's changing. Sorry if I seem blunt, but the whole experience and the accoutrements that go with it seem so "packaged." I wonder if people REALLY like it, or if it's something they do to be "one of the boys." I mean, it offers little in the way of exercise value. The reason I bring this up is that about 5 months ago, I got a new boss. In the last week or so, it crystallized that he is …

I can't take it anymore. I have to get a new computer and I need it soon. This POS desktop of mine is hinging on my last nerve: the slowness, the loudness, the slowness, the ancient (by today's standards) monitor, the slowness, the fact that if I so much as touch the tower, the computer will inexplicably black out and require a hard reset (I'm not kidding) and did I mention the slowness? Then there's the laptop with a dead keyboard, dead touchpad, several dead LEDs, and a line of dead pixels in the corner of the screen. Plus, it's thick and heavy as hell, the battery life sucks (which wouldn't be that much of an issue if the AC jack worked properly...which it doesn't) a…

I come to find out today that my mom plans on clearing out the driveway. So that means both van are being junked (a pity, the very first car I ever drove was the `86 Caravan), but she also seems to plan to junk the Grand Marquis. She pulled it off the road to save money a couple months ago. Has a flat, and although I (and only I) made the effort to start it up, battery probably is too weak to start it. Does still have power through. To get it back on the road it needs a battery if this one is no good, and a tire. Have a spare tire, no biggie. Waterpump is starting to go, but that should be an easy fix. Looks much easier to do than the Shadow was. Then there's the tra…

I went to the Nutmeg Chapter POCI Pontiac-Oakland show on Sunday. There were a lot of nice cars out and competition was pretty tough. So much to my surprise, I took home a first place in my class! Who knew... I've attached some pictures from the show. Most concentrate on cars I was competing with, but there are a few others I found interesting included too. I loved the wagon! He was robbed -- didn't place at all. He tied for 3rd. He kicks my butt often at these shows. My car. I think he took 2nd place (possibly tied for 3rd)

So, its 12:30am and I'm driving home from the beach. I decide to do something rare, crazy, and irrational, a thing the majority of drivers here don't do - I stop at a crosswalk. I wonder why the couple walk so slowly across while starting behind me under I feel a *THUNK!* And that's what it feels to have a 2006 Solara hit you. Damage is minimal though, as you can see. Thing is the car was a demo and the guy driving works at a Toyota dealership in the paint/body shop. He was very kind, very nice, and very apologetic. He gave me everything - license, reg, insurance - and asked if I could go through him instead of calling the police. I get his insurance info just in cas…

So I came home from chilling with a few of my friends earlier tonight going my usual route. No big deal, I could drive home from work in my sleep if I had to (and practically have, many times; same route I take to work, practically). So I'm about two blocks or so away from my neighborhood, it's not quite as dense as the center of town is, but it isn't quite residential. Not so many cars on the road seeing as its about ten or so. I'm doing about forty-five, give or take (probably give). A little farther down the road, on the other side there's this large black dog just trotting down the street, probably not paying any mind to where he's going. Suddenly he just darts out…

I was pretty depressed about the Patriots losing in such an ugly manner yesterday, but the ending of the Colts-Steelers game was absolutely insane... Polamalu's reversed interception, Manning sacked, Bettis's fumble (why the hell didn't they kneel?!), Roethlisberger's game-saving tackle, Vanderjagt's missed FG... what a crazy game. Even though I hate the Steelers, I hate the Colts more and took joy in Manning's frustration and anger. Now I want the Steelers to beat Denver and then lose to Seattle.

It is no secret that currently, the US and the world are on a CUV binge. Every niche has been explored by numerable automakers to flush out every customer. Chevrolet is no different, and who can blame them for following the market? Which brings us to the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. Billed by Chevrolet as Camaro-inspired, nevermind the internet clamor over using a revered SUV name from the past, the Blazer could have... SHOULD have, differentiated itself from a sea of CUV appliances by simply being built on the Alpha platform... like the Camaro. A LWB Alpha Blazer would have clearly shown Chevrolet's intent to make the vehicle stand out... and tie it in irrevocably to …

I've gotta tell you.....I've driven a few BMW 6-series lately....and that car, IMHO, has the BEST production V8 exhaust burble/note of any car I think I've heard....in fact, I wish my C6 sounded as good. This is the ONLY V8 BMW that sounds this way.....according to BMW, they spent a good amount of time tuning the exhaust note to get it just right. Of note, our X5 4.4i has a similar V8 "detroit-style" burble...but it's not nearly as vocal as the 6-series. Runner up? M-Benz SL55 AMG..... GM runner up? Pontiac Grand Prix GXP 5.3L What do you guys think from the cars you've heard....?

Crossing from PA into NJ on Route 1 today. Old man in a beige Camry merges into the right hand lane. Only problem is, there is an old Volvo 240DL wagon there with me in the left hand lane. The Volvo tried to merge into my lane, squishing me into the jersey barrier. We of course slam on the brakes, swerve as much as we can and avoid the accident, but we hit a major pot hole. Alignment is out of wack, the under engine cover is torn off and there are squeaks from the sunroof and passenger door now. Going to the dealership this week.

About two months ago I started to get terrible pains on the right side of my abdomen, at first I ignored them as most men would do, but they persisted. I waited to see if they would go away but they only got worse as time wore on. Not being the kind of person that sticks his head in the sand, I took medical leave and decided to come back to the United States to see what the hell was going on with me. I decided to grab the bull by the horns as it were, and I scheduled an appointment with a gastroenterologist (sp?). Yesterday I put the Sierra on Rt 95 S and headed to the Baltimore Convention Center to check out the Motor Trend-sponsored Auto Show. The show opened at 10, I got there around 11:30, so the crowd was still fairly thin. First display I came upon was Chevrolet, with the glorious Vettes out front, at the entry point. Off to the side was the 2009 Aveo5 LT in silver, which, I have to say looked better than all the photos suggest. Without seeing it side by side with the current car, the new front does not look too big as I'd feared, that and the touched-up tail do a good job of modernizing the little guy. The sunroof, alloys and two-tone leatherette interior add to the app…

I don't want to turn this into politicizing, or an attack on any one group or party, though it is clear what party my outrage is against. I am not trying to attack the group, but moreso the leaders of it who are in office now. The ones who are, sadly, corrupting their party and leading this nation down ever more tenser halls. Why should we divide so much? Why can't we all just agree and meet in the middle, that's supposed to be the beauty of our government, is that we have two parties to check and balance each other for the benefit of the public. One party that favors more government involvement and one that favors less. But where did we go wrong that all we can do is t…

Story Link LiveScience.com livescience Staff livescience.com – Mon Aug 17, 10:18 am ET Traces of cocaine taint up to 90 percent of paper money in the United States, a new study finds. A group of scientists tested banknotes from more than 30 cities in five countries, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, China, and Japan, and found "alarming" evidence of cocaine use in many areas. U.S. and Canadian currency had the highest levels, with an average contamination rate of between 85 and 90 percent, while Chinese and Japanese currency had the lowest, between 12 and 20 percent contamination. The findings were presented yesterday at the 238th National Meeting o…

The second Catholic man chirps, "My son is a Bishop. When he walks into a room people call him 'Your Grace'." The third Catholic gent says, "My son is a Cardinal. Post one of several... On more than one occasion, I was asked by locals if I was Greek. In fact, I am not. One could take that, though, to mean I'd be welcome there, and I'd certainly consider a move to Greece if circumstances would merit so dramatic a life-change. It's an amazing country full of amazing people - direct and quite frank, but friendly and warm even to strangers and foreigners. We left Saint Louis for Atlanta at 10:00 am on September 13th, where we waited for seven hours for our overnight flight to Athens. It was an unpleasant flight - ten-plus hours with an unhappy newborn and a 2-y/o who liked to kick seats immediately behind me - there …

I just realized today that I have been a member of C&G for five years this month. May 2003 was when I first registered, way back on the really old board. I was looking for some information on the Oldsmobile phase out and linked to here, which was still in a fledgling state and probably had only 200-300 members. And what kept me coming back was the Member's Talent area, the Skunkworks designs for the Chevelle, and the professional comprehensive reporting on automotive news. As long as I've been a member, we've had three major board redesigns, two large board failures, we've seen the last Oldsmobile roll off the line, we speculated what the C6 Corvette would look…

Last weekend (Labor Day weekend), I cleaned up the '87 MC LS on Saturday ... and then drove the older 4 MCs 120 miles each over the course of Sunday and Monday. Both Sunday and Monday, I "went exploring". Using my detailed Illinois atlas, I mapped out some routes that I had not taken before. And, you know what...it was like I was on a road trip! Lots of cool roads (with some awesome views) in this area to travel along...and that is just in the area west of Elgin. Anyone else explored roads in or near your home town area? 2022 is another year from which everyone is ready to move on. The world continued to recover from the impacts of COVID and is learning to live with the variants. Mass shootings unfortunately remain common, though this past year had particularly shocking events at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas and an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado. Inflation was rampant, with high gas prices due to the conflict in Ukraine affecting the cost of almost everything. Putin's misguided war in Ukraine has cost tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of lives of both military and civilians. Cryptocurrencies crashed, and home mortgage interest rates doubled as the Fed tried t…

Yesterday at around 2pm I helped to destroy a Honda. Wait, hear me out. I was driving the Datsun and caught this stupid red light that is pretty much useless becasue it should just be a blinking light IMO. It always stays red for like 3 minutes even though 15 sec. would be sufficient for the ONE car that is waiting to merge onto Rt.113. Anyway I slow down at the light and leave my car in Neutral since god knows how long I'd have to hold the clutch otherwise. All of a sudden this loud fart-can equiped nasty, refrigerator white 1990-93 Honda Accord pulls up next to me. He revs his motor for a sec and gives me "the look". So I'm like, sure I'm game... why not. I hold m…

...untill the Annual Halloween Howler Enduro Race at Star Speedway in Epping, NH. I need to get my Ass in gear and get a car. This shows a typical Enduro race, a few dozen cars. Now imagine 300-350 cars on a 1/4 mile oval! Pure Insanity. Plus you get to see FWD shitboxes get a one way ticket to the salvage yard.

Well after staying in Rehoboth, DE for 4 days, I now want a place of my own down there. And after seeing so many awesome cars in Ocean City, I now want an old car of my own. Neither of which is bound to happen any time soon, being that I'm single and don't have a partner's income to supplement my own to buy extra luxuries like that. Why does life have to be so cruel?

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all of the fathers at C&G. And a special "shout-out" to the father of C&G, Walt Keegan. Without your "child", many of us would have to rely on that other site for all of our latest GM news. And we might as well recognize the "Big Daddy" of the place, FlyBrian, for always keeping us informed and behaved. to both of you! Here I am with my pride and joy... And in a few hours I'll begin the day's celebration with breakfast (not sure if the wife's cooking something special or if the kids are taking me out). Hope all the fathers here enjoy their day!!!

My SKY image came through yesterday!!! I go to the dealership on Saturday to write up the paperwork and put a deposit down, although the sales manager has already put it into the system with the options I want. I was working a late yesterday (actually, almost always do) and I get an e-mail from the manager saying that my image arrived, he put in my options, and I can now officially say that I have ordered my '07 SKY. The only downside is that I wanted the black & red two-toned leather interior to go with the Silver Graphite exterior. There's a constraint on that interior, so I told him to go ahead and change the interior to the all black leather interior. Hope…

I just looked at the exchange rates this morning. It's sick. Bad for travel and bad for the balance of trade. The Euro has broken the $ 1.40 mark...meaning you need that much in dollars to buy ONE Euro....theoretically, upon its introduction, is that it was to be 1:1 given that there is so much activity between the US and the EU. I've decided to cut back on trips to Europe anyway after I figured out how much less stressful it is to vacation in the US and Canada. That being said, the US and Canadian dollar are TIED. Unbelievable. When I was living in Seattle from 97-00, the US dollar could buy 1.52 Canadian dollars (granted that was horrible for our Canuck friends).…

Hey y'all. I just got out of the theater after seeing Ghost Rider. I have to say that the movie was definitely worth the money I laid down for it. Followed the comic series quite well and really was cast pretty well. I can't really go into the whole story of the Ghost Rider without giving away parts of the movie. All I have to say is that its worth it and really good. I enjoyed the world out of it (then again, that might have also been becuase it was just ME that went to the theater, no family attached). There were also the previews for Fantastic 4 II: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Spidey 3, both of which looked pretty good indeed. Anyway, has anyone else seen it…

Dallas police ticketed 39 drivers in 3 years for not speaking English By SCOTT GOLDSTEIN / The Dallas Morning News [email protected] Dallas police wrongly ticketed at least 39 drivers for not speaking English over the last three years, Police Chief David Kunkle announced Friday while promising to investigate all officers involved in the cases for dereliction of duty. Pending cases will be dismissed, and those who paid the $204 fine for the charge, which does not exist in the city, will be reimbursed, Kunkle said. "I was surprised and stunned that that would happen, particularly in the city of Dallas," Kunkle said. "In my world, you would never tell s…

Well, the NFL really starts today, forget that Thursday opener crap. I was planning on sitting around watching football today, then I turned my TV on to ESPN and Chris f'n Berman was on and reminded me of why I hate humanity, so I'm going lot hopping instead. Die Berman, just f@#king die you irritating bastard. Might as well make a Super Bowl pick, so I'll say Indy over Dallas because that would be an awesome game to watch.
