Just what has wp been up to for so long, haven't seen any crazy early morning ramblings about his Maxx lately. Well, I happened to come across some delicious gossip over at AW forums.....this guy just won't let a grudge go.....so much so that he tries to tarnish this website's name........it's worth a chuckle I think....he even talks a little about Joshy poo [I don't see how this could continue, but it does......what's the purpose? Trying to shut down C&G and proclaim to legions of Americans "I am Fart King of America!" http://forums.autoweek.com/thread.jspa?for...22100&tstart=15

Anyone doing anything fun this holiday weekend? For the first time in years, I'm not traveling..staying home to catch up on sleep, pool time, and watch some racing (Indy 500, Turkish GP). Going to be taking a few long weekend trips this summer, but not on holiday weekends....first up is a weekend in Del Mar (San Diego) in mid June.

I just got back in from my morning walk and I'm sick to my stomach. Coming up to a "T" intersection, I waited for a '95-ish Monte Carlo (the new Christine) to come in from the right. Just as it passed about 20 feet in front of me, a squirrel darted out into the street, trying to make it across. I heard a tiny *snap* as the evil MC ran over the little guy's hindquarters and sped off. He dragged himself as quickly as he could to the near side of the street and collapsed in someone's front yard. I approached him, and stood watching as he convulsed and screamed a little squirrel scream. His eyes closed for about 10 seconds and he stopped moving, then started breathing a…

Happy birthday to CARBIZ, our member who refreshingly is one of the most "no bull$h!" people on this forum. Enjoy your day up in T.O.! Any plans? BTW, have you seen that great video of that street interview gone south on a street in downtown Toronto? It was so funny, that about 5 of us watched it DAILY at work for about a month, almost like a ritual.

Well I got in to a huge argument that lead into me chucking a metric Cresent** wrench at the person. He started by saying that how much that chevy's suck (he is a ford guy so ill give him some credit). Then I get envoled and say Chevy makes some of the best cars and he says no Ford makes by far the best truck in the world. I said No they dont! It goes on and on. We start yelling at each other by now about the 350 vs 351. I made my argument about aftermarkets, Camaro's, and trucks. His base was that its faster and stronger and has way more displacement. Then we go into aftermarket. by this point Ryan a fellow buddy is holding me down while pat is holding down Patrick the g…

I think I may have financially overextended myself a bit. It's sad really, when I think about it. I bought one of the cheapest condos I could find in Toronto. Half the loan is from my grandfather, at a better-than-bank rate. Half the loan is at 6% from the bank, which is fairly decent. My car is pretty basic too, I'm sure you'll all agree. Selling it and getting an older one wouldn't really solve my problems, since insurance is the main issue. Last month I had to pay my grandfather his interest for the year, and now I'm finding myself really in a bind. I'm going to have to roll up all my change and take it to the bank so that the money is there when GMAC goes to ta…

I now officially hate commercial trucks. A few days ago we brought the sebring to Town and Country for a scratch repair on the rear bumper and the hood and for an estimate of the damage my mom caused to it a few weeks ago, and they gave us an 07 PT base for a loaner car. So we have been using, its quite fun to drive! Anyway, today I was driving down a main road and I saw this truck backing up into the opposite lane about 10 seconds up the road. So I noticed that everyone behind it stopped and was waiting because it had blocked all traffic comeing towards me. It was stopped so I thought that it wouldn't back up into on coming traffic...but ofcourse it decides to back up mo…

Well, wifey did. Salesman friend of ours bid on smart auction and won a '07 Aura XR with 32k miles. Was a GM rental car. Berry red with black leather and moon roof. Auction noted some paint flaws, hope it look ok when they get it up to the dealer. I'm usually quit picky on my vehicles but when the wife drives over 30k miles a year it's hard to get too picky. It's gonna see a lot of the enviroment each day of her commute! Was a bit iffy about it being a rental (but may have been rented/leased to a business??) but 100k powertrain warranty has my nerves settled. I really liked the powertrain and black leather option of the XR, but I suppose the XE would've been the ideal c…

As a kid or young adult, I didn't have the nerve to do this. Now I do, though I use it sparingly. Our office/firm just lost a bunch of people after the new year. Some picked up their year end bonuses and went to new companies or started their own. When the job market (in a field or in an area) is short on help, job hopping goes up and loyalty goes down. I handle my own client projects and now I "inherited" a few more from the departees. Everybody has been just awesome in understanding and is allowing us more time to complete projects. Except one client who is in the "inherited" batch. In 6 days of working with him (and I jumped right to it to servicing his project)…

I just wanted to tell you all, I think the new layout sucks. They made everything harder to find IMO and it's a little "overdone" IMO. I much prefer the old layout where you have a the list of manufacturers and then each model over this new check off the models you want, or click for more choices and all these new pop up windows to branch off. Meh. My rant is done.

Hey, I am at a crossroads, I am not sure of what I should do. I was looking at a Cobalt SS moonroof without the Supercharger. Now the car clocks in at approx $475 / month and is somewhere in the range for the lease payment on my 05 RSX. They said they "should" be able to buy out the lease on the RSX and I could buy the Cobalt. Does anyone have any opinion on this? I kinda like the RSX more but getting service is hard because of the limited dealers around and when you do get service there is still a hassle with getting parts. It took them 2 months for a strut and I don't see things getting better with the RSX being discontinued. I guess the major question is, is the Cobal…

I get my gas at a local convenience store. There is a lady at the counter in there, about 60 years old. Every time I go in there, she asks me about my car. Does it have Onstar, I need to try the turn-by-turn, is it an '09, it's a nice looking car, she has a Torrent, same as the Equinox, but she likes it, her husband likes Cobalts... etc. etc. When I had my Sierra, I always went to another place to get gas, but before the Sierra, with my Colorado, I used to go in there, and she would always tell me her husband had a Colorado, and that mine was nice looking. It's kind of amusing, especially when she repeats herself every time I see her, but it's also kinda nice to he…

Boomers: 3 ways the crisis whacks your retirement 10/17/2008 12:01 AM ET Link to MSN Money For the generation of Americans born between 1946 and 1964, the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression comes at the worst time imaginable. Baby boomers are nervously trying to navigate their nest eggs to a safe port in a stormy sea of wild stock market swings, falling home values and a weakening job market. It can take years for nest eggs to recover from heavy investment losses. But time is something baby boomers -- the oldest of whom turned 62 this year -- just don't have enough of. Here are the problems near-retirees now face and what (if anything) baby boomer…

You can now install Cheers & Gears as an app on your phone and tablet. It's not in the app store; it's called a Progressive Web App, or PWA for short. The advantages are you can get notifications on your phone (don't worry, they're configurable, I'll show you further down) when someone replies to your post or sends you a message. iOS (16.4 and up) Make sure you're on the latest iOS version. iOS 16.4 was released on March 27th, 2023 and is the minimum for this process to work on Apple devices. Well, I guess they have trained killer whales perform all over the world, but handling them or training them is something that gets a "no thanks." I will say the same about sky-diving..."no thanks." What happened today at Sea World was very sad. Even sadder was the fact that spectators had to watch it. This whale was a problem, having done this sort of thing many years ago...they should have put him on a ship and sent him back to the waters of Puget Sound or the Inside Package. I've had iTunes since version 4 and remember the days when it opened quickly and everything was a breeze. Then Apple kept releasing new versions and forcing you to upgrade in order to buy from the iTunes store, which became a pain in the ass because each time they limited the number of computers and CDs you could share/burn your purchased music on. I bought the song, so I should be able to use it on as many computers as I want. I've changed computers three times since version 4.0, so each time I have to screw around with approving a new computer to play my purchased music. Now ever since 7.0 it's become a big piece of bloatware that takes about 3 minutes to open,…

Is this dude a piece of $hit or what? He couldn't keep his nose clean. He was just found guilty of theft and kidnapping in Las Vegas. In a way, I think he had a "survivor's guilt" issue. He obviously knew he did it because he became so self-destructive afterward. I heard he was not treated well in public and probably had to constantly look over his shoulder. If he was truly innocent, he could have had a clear conscience, could have lived a life of luxury and could have been surrounded by blonde poon. I guess he'll have to take what's available in adjacent jail cells, or Rosey Palms, now. Justice is served. May the sentencing be just as harsh.

The Toyota Prius is the most fuel efficient vehicle in its class, very roomy, relatively affordable and Hanna Montana drives one. Maybe that last point is why some people are beginning to show hostility towards the car that's become the Kleenex of hybrids. Andy Richter and James Adomain of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater have played off the Prius backlash in a faux car commercial pitting the Hyundai Elantra against Toyota's famous hybrid. Richter, formerly of Late Night with Conan O'Brien fame and not much since, plays the part of the frugal-minded Hyundai owner with an underlying anger issue, while Adomain gets all spiffed up to play the snobbish know-it-all with t…

A year ago today I was in Missouri and Kansas at the beginning of my western road trip; 2 months ago, I was in Pennsylvania in the middle of my eastern road trip. As a few people on this site can attest, I love car shows. But how many times can you look at Corvettes or Mustangs and not be bored? This past year, a new car show was launched and it was stunning! Please check out some of my pictures from the show and let me know what you think. Perhaps you can make plans on attending this year's event. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/3722

Since it was pointed out that I might have a strong bias towards GM products, it made me think about what my first choice for each of the respective vehicle segments would be and how many of those segments GM might win. B-Segment (subcompacts, super mini, city car) - None of the above really since the VW Up! isn't here, I haven't driven the new Spark yet, I didn't like the current Spark. Sonic if that counts in this segment and I'm forced to pick. C-Segment (compacts) - Mazda 3 C-Segment (Luxury Compact) - C-Class D-Segment (mid-size) - Chrysler 200c (I know it's not the journalists favorite, but I like the powertrain and interior) D-Segment (Luxury Mid-size) -…

To all you mothas out there. Ha. Hey though, what are you guys doing for your mothers today? You'd best not forget her, or she'll "accidentally" put something red in the washer with your tighty whities so they come out pink! For the last few years, I've been taking my mom to Baltimore's Inner Harbor for lunch at Legal Seafood, then a stroll around the harbor attractions. This year it's cool and cloudy with the threat of rain, so we're sticking close to home. I just hope we can find a restaurant that's not packed.

I was at Exxon tonight filling up the Riviera which I just got back from having a new coil pack, spark plugs, wires and brakes done...and while I was filling up, a young girl probably in her early 20's pulls up to the pump opposite me, she was driving like an '01 Accord coupe....anyway she gets out takes a look at me, then the Riv and says "nice Jag" I laughed to myself and just said "thanks, I try to keep it clean"

I need lists of keywords to help promote C&G. This involves typing huge amounts of word combinations. I already have the onset of carpal tunnel. It would be a big help if you guys could type up C&G related words so I could copy/paste them into the site. Anything General Motors related and needs to be at least two words each. For example: Chevy Camaro Chevrolet Camaro Buick Regal Buick Lacrosse Cadillac Escalade Platinum Don't worry about dupes, the software will sort them out. Thanks a bunch and hopefully it will drive more traffic to C&G.

GM should look into this technology. It will be the wave of the future, and GM should get into it now. I been having the urge to learn how to fly. My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I said I want to learn how to fly a helicopter. Hopefully I will get lessons on just that, Christmas day. About two months ago I started to get terrible pains on the right side of my abdomen, at first I ignored them as most men would do, but they persisted. I waited to see if they would go away but they only got worse as time wore on. Not being the kind of person that sticks his head in the sand, I took medical leave and decided to come back to the United States to see what the hell was going on with me. I decided to grab the bull by the horns as it were, and I scheduled an appointment with a gastroenterologist (sp?). The night before my procedures, I got the choice of two lovely prep kits to start the ball rolling as it were. The 1st prep kit you had to mix a gallon of cle…

show concept: Ed Bayglie (sp?) goes to people's houses and informs people how to be more "green" or just cut down on power usage. i've seen 2 episodes... the new one with bill nye and the one with Tiegs. i think anything is better with bill nye, he and Ed have a rivalry it seems, i found it hilarious. supply and demand... same supply, decrease the demand, decrease price. the economics of being greener is in cosumers' pocket book's interest, for a lot of things, not everything though.

I took my car to an oil change at a PBG dealer in Waterloo today. It was my first time there, since my usual Chevy dealer's fully booked. OK. I had to do a tire rotation, oil and lube, and a 15-point. They told me to check the air filter as well. So I figured, I got my car for 3 years, why not. At the end, they told me I needed a new air filter, so I said go ahead. Then they told me the oil plug was damaged as well, they couldn't screw it back on, and they want 8 bucks from me for a new one. I told them I had warranty, and they told me it's not covered. OK fine, I paid them 8 bucks to put on a new one. I thought something doesn't seem right. I asked the…

I need some help, ASAP. My computer is acting really, really funny right now. Alright, when you usually open a program, you get a bar that appears in the taskbar that has the program name. Here's my problem: that isn't showing up anymore. Period. And when I hit minimize on accident, I usually have to open the program up again and start from scratch on what I'm doing. Any help?

It's one of those things that remind you of your own mortality, I guess...a coworker and friend of mine who was only slightly older than I (37) died today at work... they believe it was a heart attack. Found him slumped over in his chair in his cube.

From the L.A. Times: A driver lost control of a Ferrari sports car traveling 120 mph along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu this morning, slamming into a power pole that cut the car — which sells for up to $1 million — in half, according to authorities. One man suffered minor injuries. He was identified as Stefan Erikssen, of Bel-Air, said Sgt. Philip Brooks of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The sports car went airborne and struck a power pole 5 to 10 feet off the ground, Brooks said. The car was demolished, but two air bags deployed. "You pay a million bucks for a car, you expect safety," Brooks said. Investigators said they believe the driver was alon…

Driving on my way home this afternoon from work I had the UNpleasure of seeing a pretty bad accident. Police and rescue personnel had not responded yet, however; being a helper on a few friends Volunteer Fire Depts, I responded as best I could. Apparently, a guy driving a relatively new Civic wasn't paying a large amount of attention to what he was doing, changed lanes without looking, ran sidelong into a Kenworth, got turned in front of it, Kenworth driver slammed onto his brakes, Toyota Sequoia driver slammed into the back of the Kenworth's trailer (happened to be hauling logs), then another Honda, this one an Accord ran into the back of the Toyota....after that thing…

Check out this article I just found: Man, 85, Clocked at 100 Mph in Snow, Ice 2 hours ago TORONTO — An 85-year-old motorist lost his license and his Oldsmobile for a week and likely faces a hefty fine after becoming the oldest person snagged to date by a new Ontario law aimed at cracking down on street racers, even though he was just speeding. The man, whose name was not released, was driving on a highway north of Toronto Wednesday when he was allegedly clocked doing 100 mph, 40 mph over the posted speed limit. "He said he was going to the bank and shopping," said Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Cam Woolley, who noted snow and ice made road conditions treacherous…

Channel 74 on Dish Network is entirely devoted to one person and one person alone: Barrack Obama. And it's nothing but prepaid ad after ad after ad after ad endorsing his campaign, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until the election is over (or until the end of his first term maybe?). Now I want to be perfectly clear that I am not for either candidate in the 2008 election and I have my reasons. (However, I am still voting, nothing will defer me from it.) But I do think that perhaps it is only just and fair that if you're going to let one political party and it's candidate for president have their own channel airing nothing but annoying, cliched propaganda in a never endi…

Ok, how about, starting in 2007, Cheers and Gears has a 'Chopper of the Year' and 'Artist of the Year'. In other words, nominate and vote for who you guys think should be recognized from their chopping or drawing skills. The winers could be posted on the home page and recieve a special page in which they'd be remembered until the following year when we could do it again. How does nomination and voting work? Anybody who wishes to nominate would put reply to the official thread with their name (one person per category!) If you wish to nominate 2 people ( 1 for each category), then before their name, put the category you would want them to be nominated in. EXAMPLE: …
