Every Friday, a group of us at work head out for lunch at a nearby steakhouse. Recently, a new Chili's has opened near our work, and we had talked about trying it. Last Friday, as we walked out to the parking lot to head out ("my" guy Ryan and another friend), we discussed where we would go. The other friend and I wanted to go to Chili's, Ryan didn't want to, but he reluctantly agreed we would meet at Chili's, along with two other coworkers. I told Ryan I had to go to the bank, but would meet them at Chili's and I took off in my truck while they waited for the other 2 guys. I got to Chili's and waited a couple short minutes before getting a table. The server put 4…

Let's first say that this is the first non-GM product my family has owned, and the GM dealership where we always take our vehicles gives us very fair prices. Anyways, my brother's Civic had it's first service warning light and code come on this week (I guess all Hondas do this). The code was B12, meaning the car thinks it's time for an oil change, air filter change, cabin air filter change, and tire rotation (plus inspection of whatever). My dad called the Honda dealership to see what the code meant, and then scheduled an appointment. They told him it would be $260 to do everything the car "needed." Now we've only put 3k miles on the car since buying it, and the tires w…

bob, mustang, i have an exam tomorrow. one of the graphics portions i only have 3 of the 9 left and passed all the ones i took before but now i am freaking out! i've been studying all weekend. between my caribou depth charge this morning, my obsessive compulsiveness when shrink wrapping floor plans, and general paranoia are making me shake. I'm gonna freak out! the pressure is that much greater when you're that much closer to being done. if you fail one of the first ones, no biggie. but if you've done say, 8 of 9, my GOD i would be a frickking mess going into that one! Back in 2002 or 2003 I saved up enough cash (give or take $400) and bought myself a new 35mm SLR camera - a Cannon EOS Rebel XSN: I loved that camera and used it for a couple of years, even though I received a small digital camera for my birthday in 2004 (the digital camera became my only used camera by 2005 or 2006). That camera has seen better days and I have to replace it. I'm no Chris Doane , but I do love taking pictures and have wanted a digital SLR camera for a little while. What I'd like to know if there is a recommended digital SLR for around $400 that I could buy? I also want to know if the 75-300mm lens I have for my 35mm SLR Cannon would work on a …

I know I'm going to get bashed for this, but I am GM to the core except for one thing.... XM sucks and Sirius is the best. Anybody else here listen to Howard Stern or Bubba the Love Sponge? I hear now that you can get a new "brain" for your car to switch the radio from XM to Sirius.

Oh, it sure is. Beautiful... I guess. *shrugs* My Grand Am is now a fastback... My house has kitty killers... Yeah, it's nice to look at, but I hate it. It's freezing cold for one. I stepped outside and instantly felt a slap of cold air. I walked to the top of the hill, too. It was windy and felt like it was negative 20. Brr. The dirtroad was mostly ice with gravel sprinkled over it. Slippery. Everything has about 6 to 10 inches of snow covering it. As you can see, drifting snow turned my Grand Am into a fastback. My Millenia's doors are frozen shut and were impossible to open. My house has huge kitty killers on it. Some are taller than me. Then there's th…

Some of us organized a get-together over at LS1GTO.com, and we had a pretty good number of GTOs out together today, it was a lot of fun cruising around. We then invaded the Pontiac dealership and took some pics there too, which was cool (except my camera died shortly after that). We went in to the dealership and told them that we had 7 GTOs out front all together, and asked if we could take some pictures. Anyways, here are some pics...

Yesterday, Black and Blue Landscaper and I made the trip out the PA turnpike for this event ahead of a terrible fatal accident which later shut down the turnpike for many hours. Once there, we met up with Ocnblu and had a great time checking out all that there was to see at this year's event. We saw the Camaro Concept convertible ,of course, and I spoke very briefly with the Fbodfather himself though there was no time to really chat since his time is more than spoken for at events like this. I've decided to do something different this time rather than simply posting the pics, after each one I will at least caption it. In some cases I will expand on an aspect of the sh…

Since I do not have vacation until October this year, I've missed out on several events ... Monte Carlo- and heart-related. I'm also not at our family reunion this weekend in Pennsylvania (Holsopple/Johnstown/Pittsburgh area), a trip that usually includes stops in Ohio (Akron area), Michigan (Detroit area), New Jersey (east of Philadelphia PA), Maryland (Baltimore), and Virginia (Alexandria) ... all to see auto-enthusiast friends, heart-related friends, college friends, and, of course, family. Ssssooo...I'm hoping I will be able to take this trip, my 2007 Road Trip.... Below is my TENTATIVE itinerary...including traveling through/stops in Indiana, Kentucky, North Caro…

Well this week the Prizm accident was finally settled for 1,494.66, including keeping the car. Not what I wanted but better than what they were going to give me. I found out that the original offer was not for $1,500 but for $1,015 - $100 to keep the car...so $915 I had wanted $2,425 but I just couldn't get that price from them. As it terns out, cruise control, which was optional only on LSi models was factory installed on this base model...I found the bad news out from the original owner. It looked like I'd be stuck with a base model offer of...well...$h! However I must extend a huge thank you to GM. I called them up several weeks ago asking how I …

When I moved to Michigan for the second time, I felt pretty comfortable with what I was going to be doing and what my plans were. "I've done everything before," I thought, figuring that jumping back into everything would be as smooth as a BMW inline-6. The move? Super smooth. The finances? Oh so silky smooth. Getting back to work? As smooth as that ticking, knocking time bomb that is otherwise known as the Quad-4 found in my first car. From the very beginning, nothing was working in my favor. Trends changed, routes vanished, and nothing was there for me to find it. The one day I did see something? I didn't have a long enough lens to shoot. Someone else did and gave the wo…

Lately my car has been getting great mpg, and ironically I've been driving faster lately. Usually I go about 75 on the interstate, but the last week I've been waking up later and have a 45 minute drive to work, so I go about 80. I just filled up my car tonight and discovered I got 27 mpg! The EPA rates my car at 25 mpg and before I had my head gasket replaced I was getting 22-23 mpg. This is about 85% highway, 15% city driving. I would've assumed I'd be getting worse since I've been speeding more lately, but I'm actually doing better! How does everyone else do on highway MPG?

Linkity Saleen S5S Raptor Concept By David Gluckman After teasing us with a concept sketch last month, Saleen has officially unveiled the S5S Raptor concept in New York. We now know that the Saleen 5.0-liter supercharged engine (from whence comes the car's alphanumerics) is a version of the company's tuned Ford V-8 block. Unlike the Mustang creations that Saleen is most famous for, the two-seat car has been designed and styled from the ground up with a mid-engine layout. The chassis is all-aluminum and is wrapped in a composite skin. The Raptor's V-8 runs on E85 ethanol which allows it to produce more power than the similar po…

Words cannot possibly describe how f@#kING PISSED I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So about a half an hour ago my girlfriend and I were laying in bed talking getting ready to go to sleep. As we're talking we hear this extremely crashing noise and what sounded to me like a clutch grinding. I quickly look out of the window to see some guy jumping out of a car and start running down the street. We get dressed really quickly and run outside to see the red early 90's Integra in the road with the lights on and the wipers on crashed into the neighbors car. I go back inside and call the cops. At first we thought they had just hit their car but boy were we wrong. Not only di…

http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/cto/808179596.html I'm not so big on late 70's "muscle cars," but I have always sorta liked the Pontiac Can-Am. This one is not for the faint of heart, but $1200 seems like sort of a deal if it is indeed a real Can-Am, which all the photographs point to (stripes, rear window louvers, duck tail spoiler, etc.). I'd imagine that just the parts alone would probably be worth it if it were indeed a real one.

I went to see Friday the 13th a few days ago. It was pretty impressive. But I think I liked Jason better as a Zombie because he was more 'supernatural' and didn't need to be human to kill people. You can definitely tell the Texas Chainsaw influence in this movie (The same guy did the Texas Chainsaw remake) Saw The Spirit a while back... Some hot chicks and cool elements, but don't waste your time. The 'mythical' and 'beat cop' elements of this story don't quite mix IMO. maybe they were better in the novel (which I've never read) Now I know why Frank Miller retired after the RoboCop movies (because apparently he can't make a decent movie. First 300, and now this... S…

If yes, post your designs here and I'll consider all that are offered to me. TIA

Let the Lindsey hype begin: Vonn is Sports Illustrated cover girl By Chris Chase Lindsey Vonn is hoping the Sports Illustrated cover jinx doesn't cross international borders. America's great Winter Olympic hope is featured on the front of SI's Winter Olympic preview issue, which hit newsstands Wednesday. Vonn's semi-provocative pose has drawn the predictable ire from those who claim that it objectifies her. She's an athlete, not a sex symbol, the chorus inevitably reminds us. From womentalksports.com: Vonn is first a GREAT athlete, but she also represents norm of feminine attractiveness. The combination of athleticism and attractiveness make Vonn the…

Well, a few weeks back, when I was working (getting carts actually), I saw this lady in a Pacifica totally run into the rear end of a parked Suburban. She was trying to just pull into a parking spot and totally NAILED it. She parked at the end of the lot 'til the 'Burb pulled away (without a scratch OR notification of the accident), and I got to see her dented/scraped quarter-panel and shattered headlight. Then, tonight, I ran up to the autostore that's next door to my work. I'm walking out and CRASH! This lady in a S10 ran into the "Handicap Parking" pole! She was trying to maneuvre around it, and ran into it, smashing her door, mirror,…

I went yesterday and looked at a 2001 Regal. 56k miles, $11 grand, very nice car. I was ready to sign the paperwork and drive it home for the first few miles. Then I got on the highway and heard some hellacious road noise. I had the air on max and the radio on and the noise was still pretty loud. I turned the fan and radion off, the noise was still there, it wasn't engine noise and wasn't wind around the a-pillar, my best guess was either shoddy repairs after an accident or crappy tires. I go back to the dealership and mentioned it to the salesman (I drove it solo) and he ran an AutoCheck, which came back clean, so I figured the culprit was the cheap ass Firestone F…

The GM Heritage Center was excellent! So many beautiful cars and a great environment. I have changed my mind. GM could leave this open for GM employees because if it is opened to the public, the cars may get wrecked or ropes may be put around them. There is an amazing amount of cars in there as well. I admit it ... I'm fascinated by how lives are intertwined, especially when people don't even realize it, and I'm fascinated by nostalgia (as you may remember from some of my posts). Put those two together ... and you have one helk of a combination. Case in point ... the former Meadowdale International Raceway. In its heyday (1959-1969), the raceway featured many races along its 12-turn, 3.27 mile road course, situated NW of Chicago, in Carpentersville IL, north of the then new I-90 tollway. In recent years, it has been turned into what is now known as Raceway Woods ... a forest preserve that features a path that follows the old raceway concrete. I recently became aw…

So I was coming home tonight and going 64 in a 55, and I come up on this van quite quickly, forcing me to slow to 38 at is was a 2-lane road and in a no passing zone. Meanwhile, a semi is coming up behind me, so I continuously tap my brakes so that I don't get rear-ended because I'm now going 17MPH UNDER the speed limit. So, I keep doing this, but the semi keeps barreling down on me. I mean, he didn't even seem to be slowing down. Luckily, I think he figured it out just in time and got stopped, but I wasn't positive that I wasn't going to have to merge into the oncoming lane as to not get rear-ended. I don't know who thinks 38 in a 55 is a safe speed, but if you're goi…

After almost ten weeks of stress, aggravation & many, many dead ends I have finally sold my Super 88 to a worthy buyer. At 11:20 in the morning of April 4th 2007 I received a "subtantial" sum of money in my PayPal account. Just a few short hours later I was driving my 1959 Buick LeSabre home in a blizzard. While XP715 had Sofia in the back seat of his 1996 Buick Riviera I was behind the wheel of a 48 year old two door LeSabre with SpeedingPenguin riding shotgun. So the car drives awsome. It has 53K original miles and looks 95% presentable. There is some peeling paint on the hood due to a small carb fire that the previous owner caused but luckly put o…

I love the National Post coverage of this today. Terence Corcoran rails against the stupidity. He quotes the Ontario Environment Minister as saying,"It's the equivalent of taking 200,000 cars off the road." Terence points out that Ontario adds 250k vehicles a year to the road. Isn't it funny that once one loony government (Australia) jumps on the band wagon, others are sure to follow? When I was in Brazil, nobody used incandescent bulbs, most buildings had motion detectors (in our hotel we would often walk into a darkened hallway), yet brown outs were common. Is this what our future holds? I am all for energy conservation, but why are governments in such a "ban…

Ever wonder how they make the templates fo PPF kits? Probably not but in case you have I just came across a great expose on one way that companies like Xpel get their templates for precut paint protection film. At first it seemed like a low-tech, labor-intensive way to go about it but the more I think about it the more I realize it couldn't be any other way. Check out my quick summary here and there is a link in the blog post to the complete expose on the TintDude form: http://blog.rvinyl.com/2014/03/27/how-to-make-a-paint-protection-kit-an-insiders-look-at-precut-ppf-kits/

Unbeknown to me until about half an hour ago, my dad apparently now owns a 1999 Buick LeSabre with 90,000 miles, red exterior and gray leather interior, pretty loaded. It was my mom telling me this so I have no idea what trim it is...she's supposed to be sending pictures soon. My dad had been driving a '92 Olds Eighty-Eight for about 10 years and apparently it has finally kicked the bucket at 180,000 miles. He's been having more problems with it over the last year, so it was probably time to go, sadly. It's too bad because we just repainted it a few years ago and the condition of the car's exterior is still in really good shape with no rust or dings. I wish he would'…

Stephen Downer Automotive News September 14, 2007 - 3:01 pm EST MEXICO CITY — It may take until Tuesday, Sept. 18, for six auto assembly plants in Mexico to resume production. The plants suspended operations as a result of bomb attacks Monday, Sept. 10, on energy pipelines in southern Mexico. Natural gas supplies should resume gradually between Sunday night, Sept. 16, and early Monday. Martha Avelar, a spokeswoman for Mexican energy monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, told Automotive News today. Normal supplies probably will be restored by midday or late afternoon Tuesday, she added. If service is restored Monday, it would likely take until Tuesday’s fir…

NO IT WASN'T ME! :rotflmao: BRANDYWINE HUNDRED, Del. - A man running naked and drunk on a highway accosted several Good Samaritans and caused three accidents, according to state police. Police said Ardonas Gilbert, 26, of Chester, Pa., was running along the southbound lanes of Interstate-95 near Marsh Road about 10 p.m. Monday. Gilbert allegedly assaulted two people who tried to help him get off the road and had caused three separate traffic crashes as people swerved to try to avoid him, police said. No one was seriously injured. Gilbert was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and a single count of being drunk on the highway. He is being held at the Howar…

My GF's brother is the not so proud owner of a previous gen Civic. A year or so back they had a major recall over the headlights just cutting off in the middle of a commute. (I don't remember seeing that one in the mainstream press) He was a good lil sheep and took his car in for the needed repairs. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago when he and his girlfriend are driving home from work one night and his headlights just randomly cut off. He takes it into the dealership again and they say: 1) The recall was never performed on the car in the first place (Umm, what?) 2) Because the car is out of warranty they charge him $187 for the new switch. And 3) If he wants to get his m…

So I drag my sorry butt out of bed at about 4:30 this morning so I have time to get ready to go downtown for the invitation only GM get-together at the Philadelphia Auto Show. It takes quite a while to deal with the dogs in the morning so I wanted to get an early start as we had to be at the show at 7:00A.M. First order of business is to let Zora out. While he is outside I start to do my normal morning ritual which includes feeding Arkus. I want to get this done before I hop in the shower. Well, it comes time to switch dogs and Arkus bursts through the open door with his usual lack of grace as Zora comes back in. I look down at Zora and his face is sopping wet and he i…

OK I love summer weather. I wear long sleeves @ work all year. But last evening I broke down and stuck my window units in here at the house. One, a Maytag, just works, never an issue, it hums merrily along. The other, a Frigidaire, runs fine when I first turn it on, cools, blows plenty of air... but it always seems to "bind up", or freeze. The compressor gets loud, and the air flow diminishes. It seems to be leaned far enough to let condensation drip away like it's supposed to. The air stays cold, it just doesn't "move". If I shut it off, I can eventually hear it "crack", like it is thawing somewhere. Any tips?

Toyota was ahead of the times even back in 1983 with its DIESEL pick-up. They even have a macho cowboy in it doing a cheer leading jump. This thing reminds me of the Tundra only better looking. I can't imagine what a modern Chevy Silverado 3500HD could do to this thing? Maybe run over, eat it for a snack or maybe tow about 10 of these behind at 90 mph? Hmmmm... For those of you so interested in watching... TOYota DIESEL pick-UP

Belated Happy May Day Everyone. An interesting observation as I did a lunch workout at my 24hr club and then stopped at Costco to do the wives ToDo list. When I came back out, I saw 4 VWQ ID4 and 2 ID5 EVs, then a Tesla S and X as well as a Y and I have to say seeing all 3 side by side the 3 is very cheap and looks even more dated than the S and X, but all three look very dated compared to the VW ID's. Then there was 3 R1T and 1 R1S from Rivian. WOW those are sharp EVs, then a couple of Bolts and a Bolt EUV. Then there was my Escalade, a half a dozen Dodge chargers and a lone Challenger and then a bunch of older 300Cs, Impala and a mix of asian econo box cars. …

My car has always had a small whine coming from the power steering which I had read was pretty normal with LS's and 90s-early 00s Fords in general, but the last couple days with the weather getting colder the faint whine has become a loud squeal and it sounds terrible. I have to go home this weekend which is a 500 mile round trip, so I'm thinking I probably don't want to risk the power steering pump going out on me with that many miles ahead. Right now the plan is to head to Lincoln Mercury tomorrow morning and see if they can diagnose for sure that it's the pump and if they have any in stock. If they can't get it done tomorrow, I'm probably going to be renting my firs…

So Oldsmoboi, when can we expect to see some reviews of the vehicles GM is allowing you to drive? I'm anxious for your report on the '10 Equinox (especially if it was a 4cyl model). I think it's great GM extended this to you and the other mods participating, and I know I can't wait to read what you guys think of your time behind the General's latest offerings. Thanks!!

It's not just for saturns anymore...... Anyways, I've been reading quite a few stories about people cutting, or just doing things a whole new way in this lovely economy. I've always been a guy who didn't need a bunch of stuff, but I find it amazing the stuff you can live without. Haven't missed cable, that's for sure. Hulu FTW. Looks the used car idea (for the wife) will stay that way going forward..... My new car needs to stay under 20 grand, period. I think I can get a Cruze or Aveo (if I go the GM route) pretty decently loaded (I'm not a frills kinda guy) for 15-17k. I want to have as few payments of anything possible. Cash is going to be king from here on out..…

Let's say you're heading out to the dealership today to buy a new vehicle. This is not a "money is no object" vehicle, but something you can realistically afford to pay for. You've saved up for your downpayment. What vehicle, right now today, makes you want to sign the dotted line?

So the other day I'm at home in the moring getting my day started, I've got several hours of painfully dull work ahead of me and in the mean time a client needs a delivery to western Mass. Since I'm busy and Marcia was going to visit her Friend Audrey anyway (who lives close by to the drop off point) she runs out wiht the Datsun and leaves me and at home to take care of myself and the baby... both sick with a bad cough, runny nose and worst of all a nasty sore throat. Several hours go by and I'm statring to get pissed. I call her on the cell phone and I'm like WTF? Where are you? This isn't a vacation I need you back here so I can concentrate on …

I enjoy making up words, so there may be further installments, but we'll see how this one goes first. Original word: anachronism--something out of chronological order, that belongs in a different era. Example: Moses wearing a wristwatch in "The Ten Commandments." Enzora-fied word: anachromism--something that is of a color that would not be seen as logical. Example: Automakers choose bright/flashy colors for sporty cars, but due to cost-effectiveness, put it on all other models as well. Which creates...... Bam! Teal minivan! (Special thanks go out to Croc and razoredge for inspiring my thought on the meaning of the word root "chrom.")

I'm a huge fan of local music and supporting it. Perhaps it's because I come from MoTown, The Motor City, etc and this state (metro-Detroit really) is so rich with hot music and promising bands that I can't help but appreciate the smaller (for now) guys. Obviously everybody knows how I feel about JoCaine & 75 North whom I feel will be mega stars before the end of' 06 if not before the end of summer '06. They've had their music featured on CSI and in several movies. Jocaine & 75 North But, there's also a band the "Paper Street Saints." These guys rip it too. They have a nice modern sound ala Nickleback especially with their latest song "A Fool TO Lie" which is c…
