This idea has come up in the past, and it's a good one that has credibility to it... With this being said, I'd like to ask the following: What would C&G members think of holding an additional competition, known as the C&G Design Competition, which would feature and allow submissions from all artists of all backgrounds, computer-aided or with pen and paper?

Yeah, so I think I'm ready to get myself an MP3 player (or get it as a present :AH-HA_wink: ). Getting tired of the compact disc thing. I want video capability and a decent-sized amount of storage. The three I'm seriously considering are the... -Creative Zen Vision: M -Video iPod (30 GB) -Microsoft Zune Currently, the Zen is winning me over with longer battery life, more colorful a screen, more features and greater format compatibility than the iPod. The iPod is the sleekest-looking and has the "cache" (it doesn't change the fact that it's inferior spec-wise compared to the Zen). I know next to nothing really about the Zune. I'm going shopping with frien…

I'm on one of the online dating sites, and I've actually met some nice girls from it. No relationships, but it's interesting. A few days ago, this girl bought me an online flower (which you have to pay for), and sent me a number of emails. She approached me, so naturally her interest level is quite high. I've talked to this girl a couple of times on the phone and she seems to like me. We're meeting tomorrow for dinner. Anyway, here's the problem. Just out of curiousity I asked her her height, and she said 5'10" I'm lucky to be 5'8" on a good day if I stand real straight. I told her I was 5'9" in shoes, and she said that she doesn't care. But I'm pretty …

I've recently started a new job (about a month ago) working for the same company but in a new city. This weekend went to hang out with some co-workers at the bar and since we had Thursday and Friday off for the 4th, we were there Wednesday night. One of the girls there I had met before a last winter at the company holiday party when I was in Des Moines, and we started talking and things were starting to click. I went golfing with her and two other co-workers the next morning and since we were in the same cart, we started talking about a lot of things and I found out she is 31 and was married at 21 and divorced at 25. I'm only 24, so I was a little bit surprised she…

Okay, so the engineer at my fire station is installing the remanufacturered alternator on my step-son's '98 Regal LS tomorrow. He asked for nothing in return but I want to compensate him. Would handing him an envelope with cash at the end be acceptable? How much should I give? Never done anything like this before, so I don't want to offend either way (no cash given or too little/much cash). Thanks!

I need to find the headlight adjuster for a '99ish Volvo wagon (a V40 I think). If anyone has a hookup for a used one, or knows an aftermarket source, please let me know. It's a needlessly complex affair made of plastic that just dry-rots and crumbles. I was replacing the bulb for my lanlord/employer and the damn thing just gave way.

I'm starting my grad engineering design project this term, and I'm meeting up with my group to finalize the topic, and submit to a consultant for approval. But right now, we need ideas. We're focusing out topic on in-car entertainment Any ideas? Say, what would be great to have in the car audio/video system? Thanks for any input in advance!

i hate daily driving the Nova.... its usually up to the challenge, but between poor mileage, me always breaking something, fear of damaging the car, and also the fact that im usually half assing repairs to be able to have little downtime with the car.... final straw happened yesterday. I usually dont bring my car to school, but my school bus just bever showed up, so i kinda had to drive. We arent allowed to park in the school parking lot, so most of us park in the gigantic Macy's parking lot next door. Well at around 2:30 when school let out, the rain was REALLY coming down, i wanted to get the hell home... i was going a little fast through the parking lot, like 20 mph,…

Alright, so there's another teacher I work with that owns a 2003 or 2004 Chrylser Sebring convertible. This is her 2nd one and she's had her share of repair horrors (1st one had too many tranny problems). She wants a new convertible sometime this summer. Another colleague bought a 2006 Toyota Solara convertible last summer and loves it; no problems and claims because it's a Toyota. Now my 1st colleague has owned nothing buy domestic cars and is considering her first foreign car. She needs trunk room for her beach stuff and backseat room for her young niece and nephew. That rules out the Pontiac G6. I showed her the Saab 9-3 convertible, but the price is more than s…

Okay, I want to know what these orange-reflective colored poles are called. They're usually steel, but I've seen some that are plastic (I'm more interested in the steel ones). The reason? My Homeowners Association meeting is coming up in two weeks. My development, unlike many other housing developments, businesses, and shopping centers in NJ, does not employ the use of these marker to aid snow plow drivers when plowing my housing development. What would normally be two passing lanes have turned out to be one, maybe one & a half narrowly plowed lanes. I have seen how these markers improve plowing results outside of my community and want to recommend my HOA purcha…

I am putting up this poll because I can't decide myself. I really want to do a project car and create something unique but cost comes into effect. I either want to do an 89 Dakota, 318 conversion but this would be a long term project to spread out the costs and badge it as a Dakota SUper Bee or Rumble Bee. I also may take that Aries I saw a while back or maybe the one in the junkyard for cheaper and drop in a 2.2L Turbo from a Shadow or Daytona. Intercoolers can be had for it as well. I really like the Aries idea to surprise people at the track if I can get it quite fast. There is a 10 second Reliant out there as well. 1989 Reliant "Relentless". A RWD K car has been done …

Basically, I'm attempting to install my Clarion CD player into the Cutlass. Needless to say, it's ancient wiring has confused me. The simple wiring diagram I have for it doesn't explain what two certain wires are. As well, I don't see where I'm supposed to connect two certain wires on the other end. In this picture, the two wires in question are the brown and orange wires in the connector to the right. In this picture, the GM wire diagram that doesn't explain what those two wires are. In this picture, the Clarion wire diagram that shows the "memory back-up lead" and the "bus power lead". Does anyone know what the brown and orange wires are? I'm thinking they m…

Sorry, forgot to say, she has a first gen PS3(plays ps2 games). The question really is.. can Netflix be watched from her first gen PS3? If so, how? Thank You!

20190505_110414-mp4.mp4 Mother’s Day weekend was a busy one. The kids had planned out the whole Sunday for the wife and I had planned the day before to build an area with a raised garden bed for the wife. The raised bed material was bought, the area mapped out and the plan to get up early and rent a truck to pick up cedar chips and black gold compost soil was scheduled. Saturday morning went as I expected, up early, quick breakfast and off to be the first in line at the U-Haul rental place. Figured rather than $75 per delivery, two types of material meant $150, why not spend $19.95 for a single day rental of the truck, pick up the material myself and pocket $1…

I haven't been reading the posts here for the last few days because I have been car shopping. There are considerations in this purchase that are not necessarily automotive. So if you are in a hurry I will skip to the end and tell you that I got a 2007 HHR. If you had asked me last week if I were likely to get a new car, I would have responded no. My wife correctly pointed out that we are too old to need a new car. It is quite depressing to think that one might never get another car. It is even more depressing to think that the reason is you might not be alive to enjoy it. Some time last week she changed her mind. She is quite unhappy with her Pontiac. She though…

Well my little sis is needing a new car. She is driving a 96 Bonneville now. She has basically run it into the ground, the odometer stopped a couple years ago but I'm sure it has passed the 200000 mile barrier by now. The dealer is not going to give us anything for it so we are just going to be keeping it around the farm for small parts runs and stuff like that. There is an 01 Silverado with about 150000 on it on the farm that my dad wouldn't mind getting rid of so we took that to one of the smaller local dealers to see what they would give us for trade. He told me about 6800 which isn't great IMO. We looked around a little more and my sis found a used 06 grand prix …

Hi folks, long time. I had a crash with my Sunfire a couple weeks ago. it still drives, but the passenger door and front fender got effed up. My dad has taken it back and I'm borrowing my sister's S-10 in the interim. So I've been shopping for my first new car. I've narrowed it down to either a Sonic hatch or a Cruze. Probably a 2 year, 17k mi/yr lease. Hopefully I'll have an Elio by the end of that. So what are your thoughts about the two choices? They both seem like good cars, and it's hard to say I have a preference between them. I'd like to keep overall cost to a minimum, including payments, gas, and insurance.

In the last 3 weeks, many of my friends/acquaintances have bought new cars. The friend who had been driving an '87 Corolla (his wife's but she made him drive it) bought a new Elantra (which is now his wife's, he gets the Cherokee). My boss recently bought a new Mustang coupe, which made me jealous. Another friend replaced her 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse with a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse, totally an exciting move there. A co-worker recently bought a Focus, most impressive thing about that is he paid sticker. All of this has led me to catch new car fever (still want an Edge, though a red Mustang convertible has my eye), I need to find a cure that doesn't involve buying a n…

After about a month of serious "I want an Enclave", the car talk from my mother died down. Then at Thanksgiving, I picked up an '07 Malibu 1LT 4-cyl and had it for a month while my Cadillac was being repaired post-accident...and the new frumpy mobile spurred a whole new family conversation. Why? First trip I made in it, after being very impressed by the general build quality, refinement, and performance, I got an easy 37.0mpg highway doing 70-80. Owning an LT1 Fleetwood, that essentially dumbfounded me, and I praised the car and its gas sipping (but very zippy) 2.2L everyday I had it. I could definitely see how it wasn't greatly reviewed (the '04-07 is built well an…

Hey everybody, Its getting to be time to start thinking about replacing my Grand Prix. I just got back from the Dodge dealership where I test drove a '12 Charger with the new 8 speed auto. I wish I could buy it, but by the time I add the options I want, I can no longer afford it. I guess this brings my search to the used car market. I really want a RWD vehicle, but other than the Charger, the only things I can think of are BMW's and Mercede's or other foreign vehicles. I am a little nervous about buying a BMW or Merc with 40-50k miles on it, because of repairs and general cost of keeping it running. I like the G8, on one hand, but on the other hand I just don't kn…

Okay people... I'm tired of the Malibu already. I usually lease, however the wife talked me into financing. I've had the car 26 months already (on a 60-month payment loan). I know I'll probaly not be happy when dealing with trade-in values, but I want to get back into leasing and want a new car other than the Malibu. Going to the Philly Auto Show next weekend witht he wife to find out what might possibly be the next vehicle. So I'm going to make this fun and ask all of you C&Gers what I should get, or at least look into. Here are my guidelines: 1. Must be a GM vehicle 2. Must be a four door (hey, I have an 11 y-o and a 6 month old!) 3. Must be something th…

It is without a doubt that GM makes the best-SMELLING new cars. Check out the smell of an up-level GM brand like Cadillac or Buick, for example. I remember the great smell of our new Cutlass Supremes, so much so that I would get up on weekend mornings, in pajamas, put on a bathrobe, and go SIT IN THEM. I can't explain it...but they smelled new, clean, and neither sweet nor harsh. I am bringing this up because I just dropped by a Ford dealership this afternoon. I checked out some new Fusion 4s (not buying, just test-sitting). They don't smell that good. They (cloth seat equipped) smell just like a new athletic gear from REI. Kudos for being a great car that got ever…

Let me first off say gm4life has been talking about another car since last fall, a pre-owned edition to my fleet. I have taken many peoples advice including BV (scary) and I know I AM NOT getting an Aveo5 or G3. With that off my chest, I went to take my FIRST test drive tonight the story is interesting... First let me say actually my wife is the one who discovered the vehicle I drove tonight, not me or my son. Very odd indeed and she was the one pushing to go see it because she is the one who saw it for sale not my son or I. The car drove well but is in need of new front brakes, and other than that it is very clean besides a few rock chips and one very small dent. The i…

as some of you know I got my license suspended for irresponsiable behavior this past january. Next month I get it back and since I sold my 06 malibu SS I will need a car. For a while I batted around getting a used rwd g-body as project car but I decided I wanted to go new or at least newish again. My budget is 20k, 21 if I need it, this is what I'm looking at so far. 05' CTS 3.6/sport package 34k miles $19.5k 07' pontiac G6 GTP coupe or sedan 3.6 6 speed sunroof leather. found one for $17.5k with only 21k miles as well as a few sedans of the same trim and miles for about $1k more. 07' aura XR with leather 11k miles only $20.5k the dark horse canidates …

Hey everybody, Well, my first car(1995 Chevy Beretta Z26!! - It was purple) that was handed down to my brother has been sitting a lot the last year and when running something new is wrong almost all of the time. Well, my brother has been in college and he will still be for the next couple of years but now he will be bringing his car with him as he has an apartment and lives a little further from campus next year. Well, my dad is looking for a car for him in the 5-7k price range. Nothing fancy, special, literally just something cheap and reliable and hopefully less than 100k miles. That's the hard part,,miles and price..(as with any used car purchase). Now, I know he d…

I went to a couple of dealerships last night to check out new cars for the heck of it. There were NO 2010 LaCrosses at the B(O)(P) dealership...and it was a fairly large store. There were NO 2010 Tauruses at the Ford dealership...and it was a very large store. There were NO base Camaros (within the visible part of the lot) at the Chevy dealership...and it was a very large store. What's up with this? Has anyone seen any 2010 LaCrosses or Tauruses on the lots? When are they due in?

Pick a few new cars that just make you say...what on earth were they thinking? Here are my pics. VW Routan-who thought VW buyers would want a rebadged Chryco minivan? Apparently VW has an 18 month + supply of them. Nissan Cube-not even going there BMW X6-Cpying the Aztec? Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix-bigger, uglier, heavier, less fun to drive than the previous model and less fuel efficient also. The Routan is by far the worst, imho. Chris

If you don't like cars of today, keep it movin'. I find a lot of new cars interesting looking, and you do too....but they're damned by puny powertrains and suspensions tuned for Grandma instead of the key 18-34 demographic. Later for the fuel economy question Later for your drive wheels issues....SIXTY8! What new cars would be on your list if only they had more punch to them? You get a maximum of 15, so let's be quality with them. Go. Kia Optima (the car this topic was made for) Ford Fusion and Lincoln Zephyr Chevy Aveo hatch (how about a Z16 Aveo?) Ford Taurus 500, whatever the hell they want to call it (Big cars need a V-8 option, period.) Hyundai Ac…

In case you weren't aware, there will be a new player on the streets this summer in the on-highway and vocational truck markets: Caterpillar has decided to partner with Navistar International to offer two on-highway trucks, the CT610 and CT630 (basically rebadged Intertnational tucks) and for the vocational market (construction, garbage/refuse, mixers, logging, etc) there will be the CAT-designed CT660 class 8 truck: CT610: based on the International DuraStar: CT630: based on the International ProStar: CT660 based on the International PayStar: These were introduced at the Conexpo-Con/Agg construction industry conference in Las Vegas back in March. Please, oh please, will someone tell me what exterior differences the new Challenger has from the '70? Please?! All I see is a softer design (uhh, kinda like an anime/Pokemon version of the original, IMO), new taillight panel, new headlights, very slightly mod'd front fascia.

So my dad sent me this email and I am wondering if there is any truth to it. Are these up around Detroit? These are actual billboards in Detroit , Michigan put up by GM. This is definitely cool ! NEW CHEVY BILLBOARDS POSTED AROUND DETROIT I have to say that if these are real billboards, then GM needs to do this across America.

Ok, so lightning struck the house and blew a bunch of $h! up. Ok, now after the idiot moved out, I moved kiddos computer into the living room so we could be together more, but didn't hook up the surge strip, stupid I know. Well, it blew up. I thought the the monitor was good cause it powered up and the bulb was good and the 7.1 speakers made noise when I was unhooking them so I assumed they survived. I had no way to test the speakers because of the 7.1, they have 4 cables to plug into the sound card and the monitor is DVI, and my lappy doesn't have DVI. So anyway, I made a insurance claim for the stuff that was toast. Got the check and ordered him a Dell …

To be introduced at the Istambul Motor Show (the same mototrshow where the 4 door Astra is to be unveiled, I believe), here are two links to articles re the new Fiat Linea: 1) http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/1654 2) http://www.jalopnik.com/cars/news/fiat-get...nbul-208960.php I believe it to be Gamma-based, effectively being the "Grande Punto Sedan": the Linea is 4.56m in length with a wheelbase of 2.6m, while the Grande Punto hatch is 4.03m in length with a 2.51m wheelbase.

Seems like this little guy made himself at home. I went there this weekend and there's an Armadillo. He's not scared of us at all. Much less the cat. He doesn't try to attack. Just minds his own business searching for stuff to eat. I thought it was awesome to get this close and take pics.

Well this is a couple days old, but I didn't see it posted here.... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060221/ap_en_...c_guns_n__roses Axl Rose ended his hermit-like lifestyle by venturing out to a Korn tour launch party in Los Angeles and to trendy nightclubs for some post-birthday bashes (his 44th) in Manhattan. Asked at the Korn bash about "Chinese Democracy," which has been in the making for a decade, Rose told Rolling Stone.com that "people will hear music this year." The tracks leaked Wednesday take a different direction from Rose's traditional raunchy Sunset Strip-style rock. "Better" has emo/industrial touches mixed with Rose's trademark vocals and hard rock backdro…

Hello, my name is Drew and I am a long-time gearhead. I grew up in a mainly GM household, though my wife and I have been driving Chrysler products over the past couple of decades (more about that in a later post, perhaps--but suffice it to say, they do make a mighty good minivan). I'm still a fan of GM vehicles, both old and new. Heck, I'm a fan of almost all of the domestic cars when it comes down to it! Right now, we're looking at either a Cobalt or Malibu as a possible new car purchase early next year. For many years, I've been a member of the "Allpar" forum that serves as a discussion site for Chrysler products. I'm happy to find…

hey all, A few weeks ago I talked asked advice wheather I should take a part time sales associate postition at a GM dealer or not. After being thoroghly discouraged from that path, and for good reason I have found emplyoment as a bartender at McFadden's bar in NYC. If anybody for Cheers and gears wnats to show up the nights that I am bartending I'll give lot's of buybacks and freebees. Right now I'm a 'reoccuring guest bartender' and am trying to become regular staff so it's really important that I bring bodies into the place. If anyone is interested I'll post w2hen I find out my schedule.

Finally managed to find myself a job this month with Advance Auto Parts. I had applied there at the beginning of August after several failed attempts thanks to their online application system not working. Hadn't heard anything back in 3 weeks so I had given up. However I got a call at the end of August for an interview, and was hired on the spot with an immediate $1 raise because I have automotive knowledge. I'm very happy about this. The design industry is terrible as far as job openings go, even more so where I live now. Advance is only 7 minutes street so I have a short, easy commute that's easy on gas. As far as service jobs go, this is what I wanted most: something …

I've got a gig doing semi-full time work at the local Sign*A*Rama. First official day was yesterday. We're laying out the vinyl for a 15 foot wide sign for a Vietnamese restaurant. Funny, the place is called "Pho' 88 Vietnamese Cusine" (I guess 88 is a lucky number in Vietnam) anyway we're listening to Rock 101 and G&R comes on... "Sweet Child" which is my all time favorite BTW.... anyway I say under my breath something like "sweet it's Guns & Roses" Here's the funny part, the asian guy who works with me is amazed that I LIKE G&R so I'm like yeah... who didn't like G&R in the late 80s early 90s??? I still love G&R. So his next questio…

So, you all know I lost my job with the energy company almost exactly a year ago. Then Covid hit and jobs became scarce. I got a contracting job in June with a local government as their Project Manager and also acting as Director of I.T. Well, Friday (tomorrow), my contract is officially up. My boss has decided to extend my contract by 30 days and then January 11th, hired me as a direct employee. I'll be getting a 5-digit raise to come on plus my health insurance costs will drop by about $4700 a year. We're still figuring out the title, but at the moment Director of Special Projects is most likely. I really enjoy working there and I'm happy to have this whole…
