I have had many vehicles in my lifetime, in many types and brands, but I have always had a special feeling for those cars that were built for heavy-duty police work. Depending on who made them and when, there have been several outstanding models and, IMO this is one of them. The 9C1 designation is given to cars produced by Chevrolet for police service, with many special, heavy-duty features that are not even optionally available on the civilian models. That also, is the case here, and the closest civilian version of this car was the Impala SS. averaged 22.4 mpg! Yeah, they don't make'm like this anymore. Too bad! I have been trying for 3 days now to put i…

Couldn't help myself. After my dad so graciously bought the '93 Fleetwood Brougham for my brother and I to use as a "school car" ( ), I fell madly in love with that car and knew I would one day have one of my own. Well, as luck would have it, I stumbled upon a Medium Marblehead Metallic/Light Neutral '95 with 117k on it at a used car lot not far from our house via Autotrader (it was finals week...what else was I supposed to be looking at!?), and went to look at it. In a lot of aspects, it was even nicer than our primo '93, plus had all the best improvements they ever got (LT1 Vette engine, larger mirrors, etc.). Took me a couple weeks to really think it over, but I e…

Just placed the order for the 2008 Pontiac Torrent GXP. Just too many little things that were better than a truck, and better for a college student. Plus I like the idea of the 6 speed, rather than an ancient 4 speed auto. 2008 Pontiac Torrent GXP AWD • 3.6L SFI VVT V6 • 6-Speed Auto • Heated Front Bucket Leather Seats W/ Lateral Support • Premium Paint • DVD Navigation • Pioneer 7 speaker audio system • XM Radio • Side Airbags • Sunroof • 1SF Package Colours: 58U - Carbon Flash Metallic (Carbon Black Metallic In USA) 312 - Cashmere / Ebony Should have it by the middle of August. 22 feet of project to be exact! I figured I needed a "more mature" motorhome so I picked this up- 48,000 original miles and a slightly warmed over 440, new tires, everything is actually great shape EXCEPT the last owner threw out the sofa and swivel chairs. So I'm plugging away and making lists, but drivetrain will be the most important upgrade as far as I can tell....

Had to make a hard stop on the highway @ a light this morning, and blew out a brake line. I drove it back home (about 4 miles); I've had more than one experience piloting brake-compromised vehicles home. Seems like a simple enough repair; drop the fuel tank, the line goes from whatever the mid-cab distribution block back to the axle- maybe 7-ft (I didn't measure it).... but as a matter of course, I should just replace them all. Twin lines running forward are looking crusty, too. For the F of it, I called the dealer. It's less than 2 miles from me, and I'm on a first-name basis with the service guy via regular service on the Malibu. He told me he replaced all the lines on…

As the topic says, I bought a Cruze diesel. I guess technically I haven't bought it until I sign the paperwork Thursday but essentially I already bought it! It is going to be strange switching from a Hemi V8 Charger R/T to the Cruze but I've never had a diesel and I thought I would give one a try. I just hope it is like most other diesel vehicles that retains a higher percentage of its value come selling time so I get some of the premium I paid back. Anyway, once I have it and have driven it for a little while I will start a thread with my thoughts and I'll try to keep it updated with gas mileage figures if anybody is interested. I'm not sure where to post the threa…

My two year love affair with Datsun... . . . . . . . ...is very much over. I'd like to introduce to you the newest member of Tight Whip$: The "Bannana Milkshake" 1977 Cadillac Coupe deVille 425 cubic inches of raw torque, 7 miles of white leater & that special Cadillac feel. This afternoon at 3:00pm I sold my Datsun and then travelled down with Sofia in the B-59 to visit my College Friends in the south-east part of the state. Sofia had a blast with Jim's daugher Chloe & I showed off my '59 Buick to the crazy nut who got me hooked on them to begin with, first time seeing him in two years. He is visiting from Arizona. So then at 10:30pm XP dr…

Hey guys, I figured you might like to see this. Two weekends ago, my girlfriend convinced me to start looking for a new car. I was driving a 2004 Focus that had cost me $3600 in fixes last year, and I was being too stubborn to look for a new car since I'm very dedicated on knocking down my student loans. Eventually I realized she was right and that I should get something relatively new so I don't have to be friends with the mechanics shop anymore. My main requirements were: manual transmission, 2008+ MY, <40,000 miles, relatively good fuel economy, and relatively good acceleration. So my initial list was: Sonic LTZ or RS MazdaSpeed 3 Fiesta ST Cooper S VW GTI A3 / A…

As someone who's lucky enough to get to drive lots of vehicles for brief periods, I recently had one of the above for 2 weeks and 1000 miles. Pros: Great engine (too bad its' dissappearing), fun slot car feel, everything you touch regularly feels special, who could hate suede??. Cons: Very little interior space, Black hole atmosphere inside, really hard plain black plastic--over the entire interior--- Averaged about 22 MPG in 50.50 city/hwy mix Overall: 8/10

Dad has had this for a while now, but I don't think I ever posted pictures. In the past, he owned a '68 Coronet, followed by a '69, and then finally a '70 he restored when I was younger...we loved that thing. Sold before moving to DE. Found this latest project on Craigslist in western PA the summer of '09. Apparently a more valuable combo of sorts, a '68 Coronet 440 with the big block 383. Was a good deal to him. Been a back yard project ever since. Lots of rust. Runs well. Replacing panel by panel, including things like the full trunk floor, etc. He and my brother hit Carlisle this past weekend and came back with new fenders, etc. from western states. Interior is also…

So as you may recall, a few months ago some jackass in a stolen Integra sideswiped both the Intrepid and the Prizm. The Prizm is more scratched than dented, and plus I haven't found any matching doors for it yet, so it hasn't had any work done, we may just leave them on, since the car will be repainted eventually. The Intrepid meanwhile took a nasty hit in the rear driver's side door. It's cost prohibitive to have it the dents removed and have it repainted, but I have left it on there until i could find a matching door for it. We found one at the $50 day at Holland's Used Auto, but unfortunately it was pretty badly scraped up and dented, so I never bothered. I'm cheap,…

So it's been a while since I checked in... here's a pic. Cleaned up the Malibu and Cobalt this week so they're ready for the impending snowstorm that's no doubt coming soon. Luckily I didn't need to put the effort in on the Impala. I spotted a rust spot on it behind the chrome trim on the trunk-lid and after the body shop fixed this under warranty they did a whole interior/exterior detailing job complete with wax, tire shine and a steam bath for the engine (score). The chip and rust spot are invisible now and a great job was done (Pics on that later).

Here are the better pictures I promised. I will be adding some more later with interior shots, but both times I have taken the photos it has been too dark to do interiors. For those that haven't seen the other thread, it's a 2001 Lincoln LS V8. 79,500 miles, leather, traction control, memory seating, dual front and side airbags, automatic climate control, folding rear seats, etc. The exterior is Titanium Sliver and the interior is a trio of dark gray, light gray, and walnut burl wood accents (although the only "real" walnut is on the steering wheel and shifter). Mechanically, a unique thing is that the LS from 2000 to 2002 has a hydraulic cooling fan rather than an …

Not to be outdone by BV's Jetta... It gives me great pride to present my 1995 Oldsmobile Achieva (after a loooong ass search)! Bought yesterday for an as-is price of $850 CAD. Its a 3.1 V6, has power everything, including keyless entry. It has 170,570 Kilometers (105,992 miles). I am her 3rd owner. The first owners were an elderly couple, and had the car untill 2006. The person who sold it to me used it for short trips to work. Since Oct '07, he only drove about 7000 K (4349 miles). It is in pretty good shape, and appears to have been undersprayed (by the first owners). It has some common Achieva problems. The drivers side power window doesn't work, or works in…

So, yea...I washed my car today and decided to take some shots of it. I don't actually think I have psoted any shots of my car on here as a matter of fact. I am not a very good photographer. I know some of the shots are more or less the same, but I figured for the most part, those rear/side angles are probably the best sides of my car at the moment. I'm not too fond of my front end at the moment. I need newer angel eye headlights with the clear corners, and a new M5 bumper would be nice...All in due time though, so I decided to hold off taking too many pics of my front. Hopefully I'll be able to get a nice set of headlights before Bimmerfest in a couple months. So, with…

I took home a near perfect condition 1989 Suburban last night. The vehicle is almost identical to the brochure for 1989. We wanted something that we could go 4-wheeling in and use to tow, which originally was going to be a Bravada. My wife found this Suburban which was owned by an elderly couple since new. It has only 82,000 miles and included tons of records. Supposedly they only used the 4-wheel drive 3 times when it snowed here in the PDX area. The truck includes; 1. Silverado package 2. Power Windows / Locks / Tilt / Cruise 3. Rear and Front A/C 4. Roof rack 5. AM/FM CD player 6. 3rd seat 7. Front bucket seats 8. 350 cu in engine with a 4 speed aut…

Well after lots of looking around I finally got myself a new car, and what a beauty she is! She has 173k miles on her, which is a little on the high side, but she's been well taken care of. We saw the car posted on Auto Trader through edmunds, and found the auction was nearby. We went there last Wednesday and looks at a lot of cars and drove quite a few. At the end of the day, this one really stood out. Paint job is very good, headlights are crystal clear, the engine runs smooth with no knocking or chirping, the tranny shifts beautifully, and the interior is like new. Carfax showed it to be in the clear, as well. I paid $2,100 for it. I took it to the mechanic to have …

These are pictures I took of my Impala back when the weather was actually bearable outside. I have the original 396 in my shed, but the engine in the car now is a 454 out of a 70 Chevelle (I think). It runs pretty good, but the rear main seal is shot and the transmission doesn't shift correctly (might be a faulty solenoid or something, not sure). The heads on the 454 are actually off the old 396. I think if I keep her and do a proper restoration, I'll rebuild the 396 and sell the 454 to someone who wants to build a hot rod or something.

Since it was such a beautiful day today, I made a yard run today, to browse their inventory and see what this place has to offer. Pretty decent size yard really, although I was disappointed to see they had only 3 Panthers, and all of the Prizms were pretty much gutted. Slim pickings there. On the other hand they had a pretty sweet collection of classic cars in the back corner. `Cudas, Chargers, Mustangs, Camaros, Sedan Devilles, Impalas, a Celica GT Liftback among other things. Over at the LH section they have two Steel Blue Intrepids, a 300M, an LHS a Concorde, and some other Intrepids and a few first gens. So the LHS had the Infinity Sail speaker grills, so I grabbed…

I was still trying to hold out a little longer but I went to the mailbox and opened a letter from GM Card. I'd gotten a "top off" on my usable earnings from slightly over $ 2,000 to $ 3,000. They had to be used by January 31 which meant I couldn't order, so onto the Internet I went to GM web sites to locate the TOP 3 cars everyone knows I craved. Second runner-up: Pontiac Grand Prix This would have been my choice over the LaCrosse because it was a sporty sedan with a kick-ass dash and had the 3800 V6. This car would have been stunning if it wasn't for the following which probably alienated some buyers: - the overstyled front end which could have been handled mo…

It's a project nonetheless. It's a late 70s/early 80s Schwinn Traveler that I saved from being trashed as a single speed/fixed gear bike. At the time, the Traveler was Schwinn's middle-of-the-road bike. I'll try as best I can to bring it back to what it looked like when it was first built. The frame and the finish looks to be in great shape - worth the $30 in my opinion since older Schwinns in any condition are increasing in value. I have an old Royce Union road bike that's got a bent rear frame that I can't straighten for the life of me (even though I was the one who bent it, somewhat intentionally). The rear tire doesn't align properly and the bike pulls to the r…

And 2011 Buick LaCrosse CXL V-6 in White Diamond Pearl in. First Buick I have ever owned and my wife loves it. And here is an interesting "Quiet Tuning" that I found. In the wheel wells which usually have just black plastic in the LaCrosse there is some padding material set up to absorb some of the road noise from the tires and road.

Well guys, after a 6 month affair with a 2007 Honda Civic Si, I have come back to GM. Today I traded the Honda and bought a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500: Regular Cab Short Bed Work Truck trim 4.8 V8 Power windows & locks, cruise, keyless entry Silver Birch exterior That V8 sounds awesome after driving a high-strung V-TECH for the last 8000 miles. I'm happy to be rejoining the enthusiasm here at C&G.

Hey all, I've been lurking around here for a year or so just reading all the good GM info and I decided to share some pics of my car. If any of you are on clubgp, you know who I am. Anyway, I picked up my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP in July of 2003 and it was stock. I began customizing it as soon as I could. Over the last 3 years I've done a lot and learned a lot when it comes to detailing skills, knowledge of the 3800 motor, and tuning with my DHP PowerTuner. Here are the pics: I got it with 43k miles on it, it currently has just over 84k miles now and still gets close to 30mpg on the highway (still tuning for even better milage). It is…

So, a couple weeks ago I was driving my Regal when the unexpected happened. Since it was a 99 with 205,000km, it didn't take too much damage to write it off. Not the end of the world since everyone was ok and I wanted to replace the car anyway. So, the new car search started. Originally I planned to go brand new... A Fusion or Malibu... but the more I thought about it, the more I figured it wouldn't be a good idea to have a decent sized car payment weighing me down. Even a Focus or Elantra would cost me over $300 a month with what I had to put down, and that is a lot of money for a car I probably wouldn't even like. So, on to the used car search. I decided I want…

I just ordered a cam for my 98 Grand Prix, it is supposed to add 40-55hp. I should be getting it in about a week, but wont be able to install it yet, because I'm also going to be buying an intercooler and want to install them both at the same time. I also have to wait until I get the cam install kit. I'll try to take some pictures during the installation. After the cam, intercooler, and 3.0 pulley, I should be close to 370hp. I can't wait Edited to add pictures

Here are a few pictures I took of our Tahoe in Lake Tahoe. The truck doesn't have 4x4, but it did just fine. This one was taken in the parking lot at the beach. The weather was warm and sunny almost the entire week, so we didn't get to ski at all! Here are a couple I took outside the house, when a snow storm hit... the day we were supposed to leave! Enjoy!

It is with a heavy heart that we must bid farewell to the Grand Marquis. She's been a good car these years, but NE winters have taken their toll and the frame is rotted beyond repair. So what's replacing it? Well I was looking for something inexpensive, and that I'm familiar with, so ideally it was to be another Panther Car, a Corolla/Prizm, or an LH. Pickings were slim, but I had a lead on a Prizm. The price was right, but the seller only responded once then dropped off the face of the earth. The next day an Intrepid 2.7 popped up for $500. Seller said it belonged to his father, it had the front struts and tie rods replaced last year, new radiator, T-stat housing, new …

This is my (new-to-me) '04 Silverado LS 2500HD Crew Cab. DuraMax 402 / Allison 1000 powertrain. It's a late '04, so I have the 310-HP / 605-TRQ 6.6L. For 5883 lbs (without driver), it's F-ing fast. Picked it up off the original owner last month. Price was very good and tho it has some dings & scratches, I know from research & testimonials that it'll last for years & years, plus now I can fit the whole brood in the truck (it's supplimenting my '94 F-150 regular cab/long bed, which is still running strong at 146K). I'm still acclimating to it, but it's a very impressively overbuilt machine, and very comfortable. Ergonomics & features are great. So far I lov…

Well, after a breif 2 years with an 03 MDX, back to a 2 GM family. Very fortunate to be the owners of a 08 HHR SS, black on black, auto, purchased April 2008 brand new. Last night, picked up a 2007 Denali XL, preowned with 26k miles. Black on black. Months of searching and moreso, waiting for prices to drop a little bit. Will purchase the extended warranty on the Denali within the next year. That will be it for a number of years for me..probably spent too much on vehicles, but got exactly what I wanted in the end. Pics soon.

2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L Plus And I am super excited about it. It almost makes me sad that it is my wife's vehicle. For the life of me I have no idea why these things have such a bad reputation amongst the general public. They do everything a CUV does but better, with the possible exception of towing and that even depends on which CUV you are comparing it to. I personally think this thing is kick ass. I just wish GM would rejoin the market and make a stylish minivan. A Buick minivan would be good. Maybe make a little more stylish version of the GL8 they sell in China?
