My 2008 Sierra served me very well, and I wasnt really looking for a new car...but I have once again strayed from the GM family of vehicles. New to my garage is a 2010 Volkswagen GTI... DSG, Xenons, sunroof, bluetooth... It just provides the passion and thrill that I've not felt before.

I had to hang with an Impala for a day until I got switched into a Monte Carlo. This was a 3.5 and en route to the Palm Springs area, I spotted a Bob's Big Boy in Calimesa off I-10 (SCREEEECH). Actually, I stopped to eat (YUUUUUMMMMM) and take the photo on the way back. Chevrolet Monte Carlo 3.5 at Bob's Big Boy, Calimesa, CA Then, upon returning it, I spotted this Monte Carlo LT 3.9 at the Burbank airport. If I were to opt for the MC, this is virtually identical to how I would order it. This particular vantage point is attractive...a couple of angles on this car can be clumsy. YOU LIKE? I know KnightFan does. I know Pantho does not.

  8. Time for a new thread, I think many of us grew up seeing the various auto mags and the crazy Hot Rods that were totally custom rides from vans, to custom corvettes, etc. Post your cool find of Custom Ride. I will start by one that just blew my mind, talk about the perfect Van / Boat Hauler.

...in an Oldsmobile! Allow me to introduce you to my first car, a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue GLS. It's basically a loaded car, with, as you can see, leather, Bose Sound, sunroof, auto climate control, and the Autobahn package as major options. It set me back $3718, though the Blue Book suggested value for it was around $5000. For the most part, it's mechanically sound, impressive at 112,416 miles, and the general concensus among my friends is that it's a sexy beast. It has a bad front hub assembly, which will need replacing soon. The leather on the driver seat is torn in one spot, and there's another tear towards the middle of the rear bench. The plastic…

  11. I've been dealing with hesitation and multiple misfire codes on the Intrepid. After much research and ruling out various other causes, a member of Di.net (the guy who wrote the 2.7-3.2/3.5 conversion manual) led me to Chrysler TSB 09-002-03. This sounded a heck of a lot like my problem, so I decided to take the plunge an embark the the most complex car repair I've ever done. The TSB calls for the exhaust valve springs to be replaced with an updated design, part number 04892082AA. Since I was in the area I decided to replace the valve stem seals with new Felpro units. So after I gathered all of the tools seals, and other goodies I needed I started taking things apart o…

This past Saturday I went to my trusted Buick dealer and purchased a very gently used 2019 LaCrosse with about 4,000 miles. It's an Essence AWD in Red Quartz Metallic and an Ebony interior, with the Bose Centerpoint Surround, Blind Spot Monitoring, Navigation, Lane Keep Assist, Panoramic Sunroof, etc. The dealer held firm on their internet price but the price was honestly really good for an almost-new car. The car is stunning and after driving it, I was sold. It is a damn shame this car is gone from the US. Aside from having the carpeted mats, the dealer gave me ebony Buick all-weather mats. During the test drive I happened to comment I wish it had the sun…

Yesterday afternoon I placed a deposit on this fine piece of "British craftsmanship". It's an auto, but as it was only CAD$5200, and has only got 115,000 km on it, I wasn't going to pass it up just because it had a slushy transmission. For a 20 year old it's in damn fine condition (a plate on the console says it was a concours event entrant in 2002), but it currently needs a bit of a tidy up and a good polish. It's hard to tell under the road grime, but it appears to be a charcoal gray metallic, and the interior is gray leather. It's got a few minor problems ... the glass in the passenger rear view mirror is loose and needs to be re-glued, the handbrake light…

Since this sunday at around noon the Camaro will be on a car trailer headed to Upstate New York I thought that it was only right to have one last earth shakin', tire fryin' burnout spectacular! Me & Speeding Penguin drove to an undisclosed location in New England and took some photos of the Malibu next to the Panther-Camaro. Then the fun began right when the tape started rolling. Roger, Thinking about picking up a used Envoy - only if it can fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the back with the tailgate closed or even sticking out through the glass hatch. Do you know if the Envoy can swallow that? Can you fit something 4 foot wide in the back? Or does anybody have a pic of an Envoy with lumber in the back? Maybe from a GM press pic? My 94 Blazer took me for a ride this morning on RT18 when the front breakline gave out and needed to get towed home. Thinking about getting rid of the Blazer and my 2006 Malibu MAXX SS for a used Envoy. Rather an Avalanche or Tahoe but can't really afford the price on a low mileage truck like the Envoy is. On January 27, finally bit the bullet and traded off the Taurus X (which I would have loved to keep but didn't want to risk the chance of being stuck with a bad trans) and leased a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country. Feel a little sick to my stomach getting a Chrysler and not a GM or Ford, but I pretty much had to go this route. In any case, this is a great trip vehicle and is quite the beast. Having a Chrysler should be interesting. That chrome GS badge is also going to have to be changed. Taking it to a hpde at a road course near chicago next weekend. This car is amazing; some of GM's finest work. Zora would certainly be proud. The handling and grip is insane, certainly helped by the 325 wide rear tires. The LS3 does not disappoint.

I apparently don't have a thread for my old workhorse. I bought this beast in June of '06, and it already had 46,000 miles on it. Private sale, wholesale value. 6.6L Duramax TD, Allison 5-spd auto, 3.73 rear, crew cab/6.5' bed, 4x4... it was about a $39K truck new. It was my only driver, and I worked out of it daily. I pulled the rear seat and built a giant 'carpenter's box' in that space. I've never opened the motor/trans/rear. It currently has 205,750 miles, still runs great. Story refresh: Back in 2001 (when Gram was still alive), I discovered that one of her best friends from high school, Ruby, had a '79 MC. Long story short ... Gram told me to tell Ruby about my collection and that I'd be interested in her '79 if she ever decided to sell it. I did. When the time came for her to sell it about 4 years ago, I didn't have the money ... and her grandson and great grandson "wanted" it, to keep it in the family.... The clay bar works wonders (I've used it before on our old LSS and it did wonders to it's paint), and the Ice worked really well. It's basically a wax, but it's clear and you just apply it, let it sit for 5 minutes, wipe the area and then buff the area, and it looks great. It's much easier than your traditional paste wax and looks just as good; we'll see how it holds up (it claims it lasts for 3-4 months). Riding this is an adjustment from the Blast. The seating position is more forward, although I can sit quite u…

I picked up some stock brushed aluminum Pontiac wheels this summer with the intentions of putting some winter tires on them. I put it off all summer, but when we saw some snow last week I decided it was time to go home from school for the weekend and get this done. The wheels were really dirty and had a lot of the clear coat peeling off. First I cleaned them all with some water and steal wool. Then I sanded off the rest of the clear coat and put tape around the tires. The paint that I chose is called gunmetal, and is a silver/black with a little bit of sparkle to it. So after some primer and a few layers of the paint, thats where I am right now. I am going to wai…

For a long time now I've wanted to do an interior swap of my car's with that of a 300M's ever since I sat in one and felt just how supple and more comfortable the leather was in it verses the cloth or even leather seats of Intrepids. A couple weeks ago I obtained teh first piece of that goal...a 300M leather armrest. Next I'd like to acquire the backseat since they are harder to come by than the front seats. Plus they are cheaper.

  64. Hello Fellow Cheers and Gears members. So since I became unemployed, while I search for a new job I started to clean up to office of the few piles I had and came across the following: http://www.thedieselpage.com/duramaxconversions.htm I had purchesed my conversion book about 3 or 4 years ago as I was planning to convert my clean 1994 C1500 suburban to diesel. I still dream of having it that way but recently had a interesting idea I wanted to float out to the fellow Gear heads here and get some solid feedback. So here goes the questions / thought and I look forward to your responses. I found a 2004 crewcab 4x4 GMC Duramax with 135,000 miles for 10K. If I was to buy…

After seeing gm4life's Pontiac Torrent get an aftermarket window tint job and how satisfied he was with it, and remembering Walt doing the same thing with one of his cars a while back, I decided to bite the bullet and get the wife's 2008 Pontiac G6 V6 Sedan tinted too. NJ law doesn't allow front window tinting of any percentage, so just the rear doors and rear window received a 15% tint (I considered the 35% limo tint, but was told you can't see out of the windows at night and figured it wouldn't be safe for the wife to operate). Anyway, for those that care, here are some pictures: BEFORE AFTER BEFORE AFTER BEFORE AFTER And some additiona…

Thought I'd chime in on this forum... here's my current vehicles. A 2003 Z71 Avalanche. Absolutly love this thing. I pull a 22' enclosed trailer with it during winter and does great. Here's my '68 Camaro. Bought it as a roller a summer ago. It's tore down right now and already rebuilt the front clip. Remember the GMC Syclone? Had this one for 4 years, sold it 5 years ago this month to build a house.

  69. Well boys (and girls) it is spring and it was time for the offical shop-vacing, wheel polishing, car washing, exhaust tip cleaning, undusting SPRING FLING. Saturday morning my Torrent went to my small town GM dealer to get a oil-change for the first time at 1400 miles and had molded-splash guards put on, GM performance parts exhaust tip in chrome (to match my wheels had to do it) and some long awaited factory floor-mats. I might tint the windows but might be leaning against it. Anyways so I cleaned her up Friday night and some more later Saturday and then did the Bonneville, Saturday. Anyone have any advice for removing oxidation (lil like rust spots) from the chrome whee…

  70. Leaving work yesterday, the check engine light in my Jeep came on (only the 2nd time in 112k miles). Got home, pulled the code, and it's an OBDII P0306 code, misfire in cylinder 6. Interesting, because I had the plugs replaced last Saturday. Since about Wednesday, I'd noticed a bit of driveline roughness when moving and when sitting at a light in gear. The check engine light stayed on since then. Today after lunch, started and the check engine light didn't come on. Don't seem to notice as much roughness afterwards. Strange. Started and shut down twice since then, light still off. Thinking about taking it back to the shop Monday and explaining what I saw. I ha…

I haven't posted on here in a long time, but thought I'd post a picture of our new 2011 VW GTI. My wife traded in her G35 earlier this month. She wanted something "fun and zippy" - of course the first thing out of my mouth was "GTI!". We test drove a 2011 Mazda Speed 3 but ultimately ended up with the VW. Also in the background is my 68 Impala (which I hate to say I really haven't been keeping up with) and the trusty 08 Vue.

Well, Tuesday and Wednesday I worked on my car from the time I woke up and took a shower until I went to bed both days, easily putting in over 25 hours of work on the Cobalt between the two days. Tuesday I cleaned and painted the calipers, and put a "Cobalt" vinyl on the front calipers. Wednesday I finished all of my brakes, adding GM Performance drilled and slotted rotors on all four corners along with a set of "new" rims (18" ALT Sonix - black with polished inside lip) and tires (G-Force KDWs - 235/40ZR18). I proceded by removing the GM badges next to the front wheels, along with the Cobalt SS and Supercharged badges on the rear. Then I took the rest of my night (uhh, u…

After some pushing and shoving I finally got my wife to upgrade her Suburban to a newer one. We recently picked up a 1999 K2500. In regards to the fun parts, it has a 454 with a 3.73 rear end, skid plates, and the 2000 and up rims. The girls call it the fire truck because it's red, though it does have silver on the lower clading area. The badges say LT, but it has the LS equipment and you can tell someone switched them along the way. The equipment is a little odd, even for an LS. The mirror is electrocomatic with a compass, but it doesn't have the temp gauge as was standard. There is also no remote entry, though they could have been lost on the way. Do any o…

So I've been talking about buying a 1959 Buick of some sort for a couple months now. I'm dead set on doing it as soon as the Camaro goes off to a good home and as of last week I've made the first step towards completing this mission. I'm now the owner of 0.03% of a 1959 Buick. I bought a '59 Massachusetts License Plate from a classic car junkyard the other day. Set me back a cool $3.00 too. I was walking along with my buddy Ross and I glance at a 1950 Ford and notice a "59 MASS" plate on the back of it. It only took me about 20 minutes to get the damn thing off the back of the car since it was rusted on like a porthole on the Titanic. Now all I need is to bu…

My Aunt and Uncle bought a 1997 Chevy Silverado and then gave the 88 to me. I did a lot of different things to it with my dad and the one was chainging the grill from a GMC to a Chevy. It has a 350 in it with Flathead Pistons and a high performance camshaft. Me and my dad just rebuilt the top end of the motor and it runs great!

He gave it to us last December and then his health quickly declined and he passed away in January this year. He must have known something was up. He was 93. He had still been driving it occasionally up until about 6 months before he died. we did put a bunch of money into misc things and right now it’s throwing a check engine light. Emissions related, they tell me. It’s the venerable 3800 motor. Runs great! Got a fresh oil change today. So I figured what the heck and got it washed for my daughter as well. The day I bought the Cobalt off of him, he replaced it with a new vehicle after I gave him a ride. He wanted something with AWD/4WD and that was easier to get in and out of than the Cobalt. Following my wife's little "off road excursion" in my 2005 Dodge Durango, I spent just over 6 months looking for a suitable replacement. I knew I wanted another Durango, but I wanted at least a 2006 model so I could get a Hemi wit the Multi Displacement System, and the replacement had to have AWD, the factory Class IV towing package, and the 3.92:1 axle ratios. I had the funds from the insurance payout, as my price limit (although in a pinch we could have found another thousand or so). I saw vehicles that were practically swiss cheese with rust that people wanted real money for, and dealers trying to convince me that a vehicle had a particular set of factory options,…

We closed on our home using GMAC so we thought we would continue to support GM by buying a new GM car. Really Roach II was costing us over $500 a month in gas so when we did the math it was cheaper to buy a new Cobalt on a monthly basis and in the long run. When everything is added up, inlcuding the payment, we now spend $50 less per month to run the Cobalt than to run Roach II. There wasn't a 5 speed LS coupe in Blue Granite Metallic so we got a base with cruise and a spoiler. So far we are getting over 40 mpg consistently. At this point we already have over 1700 miles. My wife is now considering the sale of Roach II as she has fallen in love with…

I had a chance to snap a few pics of the Cutty today after returning from Pigeon Forge. I didn't take any pics of the back because the bumper that I still haven't replaced sort of ruins it all (the chrome is peeling off). OPGI has a holiday special on '71-'72 Cutlass rear bumpers so I'm going to order one soon. I'm also thinking about slapping a new coat of paint on it next year or the year after that (black this time).

Hey all, my name's Ross, and this fine machine you see here is my 1996 Buick Riviera, also affectionately called The Egg by my family and friends. I was lucky enough to purchase this beautiful car in September of 2004 with just under 115,000 ticks on the clock for $2000 from a lady whose husband had passed away in May of that year. As a result of this loss, she wasn't financially able to keep two cars on the road any longer and opted to keep her husband's vehicle for obvious reasons. It's got a pretty strange choice of options when compared to other Rivieras of this generation. It's non-supercharged, sunroof-delete, and has no memory or heated seats or mirrors, ye…
