  1. We knew the Chevy Beat was making an appearance in the overly-named Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The new news is that one of its "triplet" siblings, the Chevy Trax concept, is joining it, as you can see above. The two are chasing/following Bumblebee down Philadelphia's Front Street. Proof of GM's new commitment to building more smaller, fuel-efficient cars, you ask? Eh, well, as you may remember, Trax and the third triplet, Groove, were not slated for production like the Beat, so this is (unfortunately) probably just a movie special. At least one Autoblogger is happy, though (raises hand), because Trax is the one he voted for last year. Transformers Live Action Mo…

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/motoring...olet_ultra.html This part of the article jumped out at me... I tend to think the writer is being a little optimistic here: " With a production version that’s set to look virtually identical to the concept going on sale in 2008, the newcomer is primed to cause a real stir in the compact family hatch market. " What I do see is the evolution of the Chevy grille already - with the upper part of the grille getting a twist inward. You'll see what I mean when you get a look at the Chevy Colorado SEMA concept that is going to emulate this front-end look (still embargoed).

  3. Chevy Volt coasts closer to reality, first bona fide model now in production via Engadget General Motors has just cut the ribbon, metaphorically at least, on the production of the first genuine Chevy Volt integration vehicle. Unlike previous versions, which have been "developments mules" made using parts from the Malibu / Cruze lines, this will look (and hopefully feel) 100 percent like what the company plans to start pimping out this November. The pre-production model will be put through the paces in case the design needs to be refined and tweaked before going full steam ahead. GM is sticking pretty close to its original plan of building at a rate of ten a week by m…

In the past few weeks we've seen official teasers shots of the car mixed with spy video taken on the set of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, all of which have only served to increase excitement ahead of the car's official debut next week. These pics give up the goods like no others, however, and show various GM execs and engineers directly responsible for its d…

"Today is a big day," GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz told Edmunds' AutoObserver in an exclusive interview Tuesday. "Today is the first day it is running on the street on battery power." Inside Line: our Chevy Volt's battery miles cost more than the gas ones AutoBlog We often, though sometimes incorrectly, assume that it's cheaper to operate an electric vehicle than a comparable gasoline auto. Hey, who hasn't? While this assumption generally holds true, electrical rates vary widely across the nation and can throw off the numbers. In some instances, like when Inside Line's engineering editor, Jason Kavanagh, drove the Chevrolet Volt out in sunny California, one discovers that operating a vehicle powered by electricity can indeed cost more than running it with the liquid fuel that pours from a pump. Kavanagh explained how he discovered that operating a Vo…

By controlling inventory and squeezing more revenue out of each transaction. General Motors is capping production of the Chevrolet Impala sedan at 250,000 units for sale in the United States and Canada this year, a knowledgeable source says. That means GM is sacrificing about 60,000 sales of its best-selling car. GM also will emphasize higher trim levels to increase transaction prices. One of them said she used to have a Corolla but her parents recently bought her a Chevy Malibu. I assumed it was a '97-'03, but she said it was a 2004 so I thought that was kinda interesting. Then, as we were leaving, I overheard some guy say "No, I don't have the Civic anymore...I have a Cobalt now." I've also seen a ton of G6's around campus. Also, China's big cities have seen pollution increase exponentially within the past few years. To fight back, China will offer automakers who offer electric vehicles, subsidies of as much as $19,300. There's a catch if you're a company like GM. In order to get the the subsidy, China wants the automaker to share proprietary technology with the government. Very few people who don't work for a car company ever get to drive "mules." These are not-ready-for-prime-time mock-ups used to test new engine, transmission and suspension technologies. To create a "mule," engineers stuff the mechanicals of a new vehicle into the body of an existing vehicle and test drive that for months. It beats waiting for a whole car. 29. I just saw a commercial for the Cobalt touting its "better than Honda Civic" fuel economy. This is misleading. They're taking the EPA rating of the manual Civic at 34 highway mpg and comparing it the the Cobalt XFE's 36 highway mpg while ignoring that the city rating is better for the Civic 26 vs 25 and the mix is the same at 29. Further, the automatic Civic has the same exact EPA ratings as the Cobalt XFE manual, a low-take option in the real world. Does "truth in advertising" mean anything to these ad people? GM, stop taking shortcuts and produce a higher mileage car. OR, compare what you've got to something that has less economy, e.g., the Focus (by one mpg).

Again there is talk of a CORVETTE BRAND split away from CHEVROLET and a mid Engine SUPER VETTE in the future. I think this could work if done correctly. And with KAPPA production moving to the VETTE plant in the future and a possible KAPPA-X BODY merging also it seems even more logical. With the next gen VETTE and KAPPA cars possibly related with KAPPA useing a steal frame (aka todays kappa and base vette) with I4 and V6 power and the VETTE useing a V8 and lighter more advanced aluminum frame (aka ZO6) and other high tech features it could work and cost less then two NEW UNIQUE PLATFORMS. I would hate to see CHEVY lose the VETTE but maby CORVETTE's better future would be …

-- -- -- -- -- -- Pete Wilzbach recently discovered a First-Generation Corvette body that may have originally been mounted on the second chassis ever built. Evidence indicates this is the case – which would make this the oldest Corvette in existence. A report in Old Cars Weekly cites an article by Ken Amrick (Solid Axle Corvette Club) that appears in the Fall 2006 issue of the club’s magazine On Solid Ground. The body has some differences and modifications that seem consistent with historical records showing that body No. 002 was used on a car that served as a test mule for production Corvettes. Wilzbach believes it was used in tests done to determine if the small-blo…

GM says the wheel supply situation has caused it to make β€œseveral adjustments affecting wheel options, production volumes and production schedules.” Dealers will have to change Corvette orders based on wheel availability. Wheel company Amcast, which went into bankruptcy on Dec. 2, supplied the wheels. GM says wheel supply is still uncertain, and thus GM’s order fu…

But aficionados' antennae are picking up emanations from deep inside General Motors that Chevrolet is readying an ultra Vette for 2008 that should outgun the new Z06. According to the Web site, DigitalCorvettes.com, the so-called Corvette SS will be the ultimate Vette, although details at this stage are pretty slim. The rumor mill has a "charged" LS9 engine under the hood as a Corvette exclusive, not to be shared with Cadillac, Pontiac or any other GM brand. Although smaller in displacemen…

Maybe the proper question is, in retail sales, will Cobalt + Aveo be killed by Sonic + Cruze.

Actually, that's just about what the Cruze Eco is. It's no secret the two cars share platforms, but nothing trains the mind on efficiency quite like creating a car that depends on a battery (at least sometimes), and many of the Volt's teensy and seemingly improbable efficiencies have reappeared on its much better-selling gasoline-only alter ego. Other factors such as weight, aerodynamics, transmission efficiency and friction within the engine has a greater bearing on mpg numbers. If you look at the automatic numbers and compare it to that of the Ford Focus which has a 2.0L engine, you'll notice that it is but 1~2 mpg off. Given that the non-Eco 1.4T Cruze (Automatic) is …
